Our Happy Customers

Travel has helped us to understand the meaning of life and it has helped us become better people. Each time we travel, we see the world with new eyes.

Absolutely mind blowing. A definite must see. We flew from Aswan after I contact them, as I did not want to sit in car for hours with my 10-year-old daughter. Just so much history and ancient love. You cannot miss this one thing if you are in Cairo. The rocks are just HUGE, so special.

MS Royal Ruby - Fantastic

I had always wanted to do a Nile cruise but had never had the opportunity at the right time. My husband spotted a deal in the Sunday Papers for a week cruise on the MS Royal Ruby followed by a week in Hurghada – for what could only be described as a bargain price. The reviews were a bit scant on the actual boat but were good and the trip advisor community kindly answered questions – so we booked. Because it was such a good sale buy I was not expecting the earth. However I was really blown away with this trip. We have never cruised before, river or sea, but from talking to people on board that had done so a Nile Cruise may be a little different. Also, as I say the price was astonishing, so it would be very unfair to compare this to some of the more upmarket river cruises. I tend to do longish reviews but I have even surpassed my self here but I thought people might find some of the information useful if they were unsure about a similar trip. We were picked up early morning from our overnight stay in Hurghada and transported by coach, the onsite agents were Skymax, who seem to look after Tui and Broadway Travel as well as others, all went smoothly from arriving at the airport to going home. When we arrived at Luxor we were escorted to the MS Royal Ruby and welcomed on board in the bar with a cold drink, rooms would not be ready until 3pm so this time was taken up by general introductions, having lunch in the dining room and then sorting out trips etc. All very efficient once we were all corralled. Our rep introduced us to our Egyptologist Guide Mohamed Hassan, who went through the various archelogical sites and tours, timings etc. Over the week we got to know Mohamed very well, we were very honoured to have such an expert, qualified person as a guide, with a fantastic wealth of knowledge, friendly, good sense of humour and patient. Clearly going to Egypt to do the sites really needs someone like him to show you around to get the most out of it. If you have not been before trying to pick up guides on shore could mean missing out. Trips were not included in our holiday but we had been advised of the costs in advance. We opted to take the extended package of historical trips which cost £180.00 each – plus a trip to Abu Simbel at an extra £89.00. So just about £250.00 The boat was really very nice, we had a lovely large cabin much nicer than we expected just below the Sun deck, with a great bathroom, all spotless and in really good order. The boys looking after the cabin were delightful. Every day we had the towel sculpture – getting bigger and grander as the trip progressed. We were lucky and were docked the first day and night right on the dockside at Luxor so our floor to ceiling windows afforded us a wonderful view. As other say as you cruise and dock elsewhere the boats dock as rafts so you may be in the middle of other boats and not see anything – but that does not detract from the views as you sail – and you can always sit upstairs on the Sun deck. One tip – the boat does not supply water in the room, or at the table you have to purchase it. This caused a bit of a moan among some, but it was around 80pence per 1.5ltr on board and 40p on shore so not really a hardship. We suspect that the boats electrics would not take kettles so there is no tea and coffee in the rooms. There is plenty at breakfast and on sailing days tea is served on deck in the afternoon. Otherwise you purchase tea coffee and drinks. We bought mainly wine and beer plus water on board, with the occasional spirit and our bar bill over the week was around £100.00 each. You could purchase soft drinks on shore and put them in your mini fridge. We felt that the trip was such good value this was absolutely fine. The food on board was really nice, lots and lots of salads, all washed in bottled water. There was a choice of meat fish and vegetarian every day. None of the salads were covered in dressing the chef in charge said they avoided that as not everyone liked it, you added your own oil or dressing. There was fresh fruit and the strawberries were wonderful. Puddings were of the creamy hotel buffet variety! I can see it was not major sea cruising standard but this was small boat and it was more than good enough. We were told the food was good to eat and no one appeared to have problems on board. Indeed from trips although we might stop for a coffee we returned to the boat to eat, probably because it was full board, but also I suspect as the food hygiene standards could be maintained. The Sun deck was very nice – lots of sun loungers and towels, plus shaded areas. There is a fairly large pool – sort of – it is a large paddling pool but with a deep swimming centre, it worked really well. It was very clean. Very refreshing. It was lovely cruising along, we had a friendly group of passengers with us and we enjoyed chatting as we cruised. The bar downstairs was nice enough, not that heavily used really. The entertainment when docked was OK but when sailing it was just piped music, but if you have a decent play list and the right connection they will patch it through which was fun one night. We were there in March so it could be slightly cooler in the evening you needed a jacket, but later in the year I think more people would sit up on deck in the evening. By the way no Mozzies. The Egyptian evening was great fun, food was nice and we all got into the spirit of it – even on board you can buy a gown for £10.00. The highlight of course was the tours of the archaeological sites with Mohamed. Fantastic – school history bought to life, buy one of the thin guides of the gods etc, so that when you have finished the conducted tour bit and wander round on your own you have a reference, particularly in the Valley of the Kings where the guides can’t go down into the tombs with you due to crowd control. If you can take a long coach trip do go to Abu Simbel it is worth it. You also get taken to the tourist ‘ government shops’ for perfume, alabaster and papyrus. Where prices were not fixed Mohamed helped. I have to say the perfume oils are great and if you go to Hurghada buy a lovely bottle for them at the modern perfume shop at the Senzo Mall very different to the ones at the factory. Our final trip at the end of the week was an extra one which was on a horse and cart around old Luxor with Mohamed. This partly funded the Horse Hospital charity, the horse and carriages were lovely ones much nicer than some of the street traders and we were able to see a lot of the old market- a few ££s well worth it and supporting an internationally well known animal charity - Brooke Hospital for horses. All the staff on the boat were helpful, not all the staff spoke English, but there was always a senior waiter, bar man or similar around who did. The reception staff and rep were very helpful. Handling of luggage and of the boat was all carefully managed and we did not see any careless handling of cases. You could change money at reception and there were ATM’s on shore at Aswan and Luxor. Security was taken seriously, with boat side security, escorted trips subtle and underplayed but security staff were there on some trips. Police and guards everywhere and full security into the main sites with x ray equipment and they did find things, like my husbands pen knife which he forgot ,so they were looking. All this must be costing the Egyptian Tourist Industry a lot of money. There are quite a lot of boats on the Nile, we noted as we crossed through some that some may be older and not quite as nice as others, and of course there are a few which will be more expensive, but we noted a well known cruise line boat which was no where near as nice on the top deck at least as ours so read the reviews. Finally a point on tipping, our travel agent advised on an amount for tipping before we left, which was then split on the ground, some people were confused although I thought it was straight forward. The boat have standard advice which is higher than the split they would get from our agents advice. Tips are discretionary and in envelopes so you can do your own thing other than a contribution towards the tips for drivers and excursion boats. We thought the tips were too low so we upped them. Some people were unhappy but this is Egypt, they rely on tips, they always have done and so we were more than happy to pay. We hope to go back and do a Luxor to Cairo cruise in future.

Just finishing a week on the cruise Luxor-Aswan-Luxor. A great way to take in all the sites along the Nile in the utmost comfort. Staff are friendly and efficient, food was pretty good with a fair variety. Boat is quite luxurious with well appointed large cabins, all with large glass sliding doors to make the most of the Nile views. A nice clean pool as well to cool off in the hot days. A week is by no means too long on this boat, could easily do longer.

nile cruise royal ruby

Just got back last week from cruise on Royal Ruby . It was better than I expected . ,cabins comfortable and roomy . Beds comfy . Loved the towel art on beds everyday something different ,elephant, man sunbathing, orchids , crocodile, hearts, I could not wait to go back to cabin to find out what was waiting on the bed for me . Food very good and so much to choose from . Mac our guide really looked after us all, so much knowledge . Mac also gave us an insight to the local people. Relaxing on a sunbed while having the river miles banks passing by with so much to see is a fabulous holiday .

Just got home this week, just like to say we thoroughly enjoyed our time. The staff were amazing, everyone was brilliant, special mention to Khaled & Hassan. Mac the guide is awesome, he knows everything, please listen to him, also Mohammed. Food is lovely, lots of choice, drinks very reasonably priced. Plenty room in cabin, beds very comfortable, also plenty room on deck. All in all 10/10

Most passengers were either traveling for 4 days south or 3 days north between Luxor and Aswan but a few of us enjoyed the 7 day return trip. Chatting with fellow passengers from around the globe in the evening was just as fascinating as visiting all the fabulous ancient sites during the day. The crew were friendly and professional, the boat gleaming, the food excellent served mostly buffet style in the dining room with a BarBQ or afternoon tea served on the open air upper deck, weather permitting (not too windy). The water in the pool was a little too chilly for some of us older adults but the few children on board were happy to plunge in. This is one of the few boats with balconies and we enjoyed sitting there as well as on the upper deck watching the scenery glide by as we sailed up and down the Nile. There is no elevator, there are four decks linked by curved staircases in the atrium. Not accessible for persons using a wheelchair, access to the boat is by walking a plank from shore (with rope railings), seriously!

We have just returned from a Nile River cruise with Discover Egypt. The river boat was the Steigenberger Legacy. Went Luxor Aswan Luxor . Great food, excellent staff, brilliant informative guide called Omar. We felt perfectly safe all the time and could recommend this trip to anyone. Good value.

Princess Cruises ships ranked by size from biggest to smallest — the complete list

A re you looking for the most venue-packed, resort-like Princess Cruises ships at sea? If so, you'll want to get on one of the biggest Princess cruise ships.

The biggest Princess cruise ships are, by their very nature, the Princess ships with the most onboard restaurants, bars and showrooms, as well as the most sprawling decktop pool and lounge areas. The biggest Princess ships have the biggest casinos and spas among ships in the Princess fleet and the most cabins and suites — as well as the most variation in cabin and suite types.

With room for 4,000 passengers or more, the biggest Princess ships are truly large resorts of the sort you find at the biggest vacation destination on land. If you're in the "bigger is better" camp when it comes to a resort experience, these are the Princess ships for you.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Still, Princess doesn't just operate large vessels. The Los Angeles-based cruise giant — the fifth largest cruise line in the world — also has several relatively small cruise ships in its fleet that carry just 2,000 or 3,000 people and have a more intimate feel. In some cases, these vessels are nearly 50% smaller than the size of Princess Cruises' biggest ships. These smaller ships, notably, have less deck-top pool space and fewer interior venues than the biggest Princess cruise ships. However, with fewer people on board, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The smallest Princess cruise ships are best for vacationers who like a more intimate, less crowded resort experience.

Related: The 4 types of Princess Cruises ships, explained

What is the biggest Princess cruise ship?

The biggest Princess cruise ship is the 4,300-passenger Sun Princess , which is also the line's newest vessel. It just debuted in February.

Sun Princess is the first vessel in Princess Cruises' new Sphere Class of ships, which have been designed to be much bigger and more venue-packed than the vessels in the line's last new series of ships, the Royal Class.

Sun Princess measures 177,882 gross tons, which is about 22% bigger than the biggest ship in the Royal Class (the 145,000-ton Discovery Princess). Royal Class ships range in size from 142,229 to 145,000 gross tons.

Note that gross tons is a size measurement referring to interior space, not weight.

A second ship in the Sphere Class series, Star Princess, is under construction at a shipyard in Italy and will debut in October 2025 .

For more details on Sun Princess, including what venues are on board and what it's like to sail on the vessel, see TPG's comprehensive first look at Sun Princess after an early sailing.

What is the smallest Princess cruise ship?

The smallest Princess cruise ship is the 2,000-passenger Coral Princess. Measuring just 91,267 gross tons, it's about 36% smaller than Discovery Princess, making it a significantly smaller vessel.

Coral Princess dates to 2002, a time when cruise ships were built far smaller than they are today and with far fewer venues. At 21 years old, it's also one of the two oldest vessels in the Princess fleet and will probably be phased out sometime in the next decade.

While significantly smaller than the newest Princess ships, Coral Princess still has many of the signature spaces and venues found on new Princess vessels, including an Italian eatery called Sabatini's and a steakhouse.

Entertainment venues on Coral Princess include a relatively large main theater for production shows, a secondary lounge that offers comedy shows and other entertainment, and a casino. Like other Princess ships, the top deck of the vessel is mostly devoted to pool areas with hot tubs and lounge chairs. There's also a spa.

While smaller and older than the typical Princess ship, Coral Princess has a loyal following among Princess fans who prefer smaller and more intimate ships.

Are bigger Princess cruise ships coming?

It's not clear yet. Princess currently has one new ship on order, Star Princess. But the final size of Star Princess won't be known until the vessel debuts in late 2025.

Star Princess will be the second vessel in the new Sphere Class of ships at Princess. It's likely to be very similar in size to the first vessel in the series, the new Sun Princess. But it's not uncommon for each new vessel in a series to be slightly bigger than the one before.

Star Princess is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard near Monfalcone, Italy.

Note that this isn't the first time Princess has named a ship Sun Princess or Star Princess. Both are recycled names from past Princess ships. Princess operated smaller vessels under the Sun Princess and Star Princess names up until 2020.

What's the difference between bigger and smaller Princess ships?

The biggest Princess cruise ships have room for more onboard venues and attractions than smaller Princess ships. That makes them more alluring for vacationers who prefer a big resort experience with lots of options as compared to a stay at a smaller resort.

On the biggest Princess vessels, the Sphere Class and Royal Class vessels, you'll find the largest piazza-like central atriums in the Princess fleet surrounded by lots of bars and restaurants; multiple entertainment venues for live shows, comedy acts and more; and expansive pool decks with more space for sunning than you'll find on smaller Princess vessels.

You'll also find some only-on-the-Royal-class-ships extras, including, on some of the Royal Class ships, a glass-floored "SeaWalk" that extends over the side of the vessel.

Princess' smaller cruise ships also are generally its older cruise ships and lack some of the above features, which are more typical of newer ships. These smaller Princess ships have a more intimate feel, at least in the pantheon of relatively big, mass-market ships, and they hold fewer people.

While Sphere Class and Royal Class ships can hold more than 4,500 passengers with every berth full, the line's smaller vessels (particularly the relatively small Island Princess and Coral Princess) often sail with just 2,000 or so passengers on board.

That makes the smaller Princess ships a good choice for someone who wants to try Princess but isn't eager to travel with huge crowds. The smallest ships in the Princess fleet thus appeal to a subset of Princess fans who prefer more intimacy in a cruise vessel and don't mind giving up some onboard amenities to get it. They are also often less expensive to sail on, on a per-day basis.

In addition, because of their size, the smallest ships at Princess Cruises are able to operate itineraries to places that aren't as easy for big ships to visit. Not all ports in the world can handle a ship the size of Sun Princess.
