Sherpa material is soft, breathable, and lightweight. These features make the ideal blanket for traveling. In addition, they create a cozy feeling when we wrap ourselves in one of these blankets. Above all, we can find fairly priced options at Walmart. Thanks to our vast experience in traveling, we had the chance to try many sherpa blankets. We kick off our list with something off-beat. The Hello Kitty Cloud Pillow & Blanket Set is a lovely kids blanket. However, we, as adults, used it and it was nice. The blanket has a sherpa inner side and a polyester outer side. It looks unique with a collage design of Hello Kitty and its pals. There are different designs for boys and girls. On our latest camping trip, we were known for this blanket. It was something funny but we loved it.

The blanket is nothing different from other high-quality Sherpa blankets. It feels soft and cozy. The size is 40×50 inches, enough for one person. What’s more, the set includes a soft plush pillow of the same character on the blanket. We use this pillow for trips where we need to pack light. The only issue we had here was cleaning the blanket. We had to be very careful while washing and drying so we didn’t lose the lovely design and colors of the blanket.

The Kato Throw Blanket is a blend of Sherpa and fleece fabrics for extra coziness and warmth on chill days. This blanket is a perfect option for packability. It has a Velcro closure to roll the blanket and stick the Velcro tape, so, it doesn’t take up space in a travel bag. We used this blanket on most airplane winter trips. It’s also suitable for outdoor adventures as the backside is waterproof. Last winter, we used this blanket on a hiking trip to cover our gear when it rained. We got many compliments from other hikers that day, so, we decided to label it as our travel blanket.

Adding to the features, the blanket has a small pocket to keep small belongings safe. We usually use this pocket to store our mobile phone while sleeping outdoors. There are different sizes and colors of the blanket. You shall choose the suitable size according to your needs. Sizes range from 51×59 to 66×90. The largest can be used for a bed. As for the patterns, we prefer this plaid pattern but there are other options for different tastes.

We enjoyed the cozy feeling we had when wrapped in this Wergifts Sherpa Throw . It’s a double-sided blanket with a sherpa inner side and a fleece outer side. We could use it on both sides, it looked good both ways. What’s better, it looks more expensive than what we paid. The price is considered reasonable compared to other similar blankets. Maybe because it isn’t too heavy. It’s just plush and fluffy.

We bought the smallest size to use as a throw blanket. There are other sizes if you want something bigger. Moreover, the blanket is available in a variety of colors. We decided to buy another one of the same small size but in a different color to alternate between both. We took this blanket on a recent trip, it wasn’t heavy at all. Like most of our choices, the PAVILIA Premium Christmas Blanket is composed of fleece and Sherpa. Despite being reversible, we use the Sherpa side as the inner side to feel the coziness of this material. Furthermore, the outer side has a nice Christmas pattern. It looks so unique and cheerful. It also makes a great Christmas gift if you’re out of ideas. Aside from the lovely design options, the blanket is made of premium materials. It’s durable and will last for years. It’s lightweight but this is nothing related to the quality.

Most travel-size blankets are 50×60 inches. Yet, this blanket is available in two sizes; 50×60 and 60×80 inches. Both work perfectly for traveling. They aren’t big or bulky and both are lightweight and easy to roll and pack. Moreover, we found two Christmas designs that look very festive. We bought the green one and we’re planning to get the other design next year. In brief, if you’re looking for something different but with the same quality of fleece-Sherpa blankets, this blanket is for you.

It’s two-sided, we used it on both sides and they were the same soft and comfy.

The first time we used the blanket was while lying on the couch. When we felt its warmth, we decided to use it for travel. It’s a bit heavier than similar-sized throws. We have been using this blanket for more than five months and it still looks new. Although it’s smaller than other blankets we had, we could wrap ourselves in this blanket and feel the warmth we seek. It feels lightweight, yet, don’t get fooled by the weight. The blanket is warmer than what you might think. It delivered the same warmth as wool blankets for camping we used before.

To maintain your blanket, you need to wash it with cold water. Also, avoid using dryers, hang it to dry. The blanket has another unique feature, the glow-in-the-dark design feature. We expose it to direct sunlight for a few minutes then go somewhere completely dark to test it. It emits a light glow which can be used as night light for those who fear the dark.

Exclusivo Mezcla Sherpa Blanket looks very expensive. It’s a double-sided blanket, one side is velvet and the other is Sherpa. The velvet side has a nice pattern that feels very soft. There are different colors to choose from, we had this beige color as a decorative piece to match our furniture. The other side that touches our bodies is similarly soft and cozy. Moreover, it feels durable. We love this blanket a lot. We use it while traveling and at home as well. One might think that such a bulky blanket can’t be used for traveling. Yet, we tried it and it doesn’t feel as heavy as it looks. It folds or rolls easily to be packed in a small bag. Moreover, it’s easy to wash. We use the washing machine every time we want to clean it. You can also use the dryer with this blanket. We didn’t need to worry about the color or the material. Speaking of the colors, the blanket we received looked lighter than the photo.

This makes the blanket look elegant. This timeless blanket is made of fluffy long hair on the top side and very soft Sherpa on the bottom. With that being said, we expected to pay a slightly higher price than other blankets. It cost us around $30 for a medium-sized blanket.

Let’s sort out all the features of this blanket. It’s lightweight, warm, and washable. It doesn’t wrinkle and the colors don’t fade out after wash. The durable material it’s made of means the blanket will remain for a long time. Don’t like that pink color? Don’t worry, there are multiple color options and leopard print as well. We felt very unique with our precious blanket.

Dearfoams Reverse Sherpa Throw is a super cozy blanket of a reversible style. We bought the red plaid pattern shown in the picture below. It looked chic and multifunctional. One day we use it for travel and the other day it’s a decorative piece on our couch. The Sherpa bottom side is cozy as it gets chill. Whereas the top side is plush polyester. As for the quality, it’s well-made. Yet, it sometimes sheds after washing, but we believe we can stop this shedding by washing on a gentle cycle and with cold water.

Meanwhile, you can use this blanket for camping, snuggling on your couch, cozying, sleeping during a long flight, etc. After using the blanket for more than two months, we can say it’s one of the most stylish blankets we bought at this price tag.

The sizes are available on the official website if you want to know the exact size of your blanket. However, we found our blanket a bit smaller than the written size.

For traveling, we didn’t mind having a small blanket. We only needed a lightweight super cozy blanket to cuddle up the cold nights. We found what we needed in this blanket at a reasonable price. Plus, it’s very high quality. After using it for a couple of weeks, we’re convinced with what we have now. It appears from the neat stitches that prove how durable this blanket is. Finally, we did a washing test to see how the blanket looked after washing, and luckily, it looked the same as the first moment we received it.

We paid more than we normally pay for a blanket of this size but it’s worth it. You’ll say the same thing once you touch the blanket and feel the quality of the material.

It doesn’t take up any space. To make our lives easier, this blanket can be washed using a washing machine.

To be honest, the blanket was smaller than what we expected. However, we could still wrap ourselves in this blanket and feel the warmth we want. Further, it looks luxurious. Some people use it as a runner on a couch or a sofa. We believe it can do more. The packability feature makes it the best option for quick trips where we need the lightest luggage. Best of all, it’s way cheaper than whatever you think without compensating for the quality.

Medium-sized blankets are sometimes good but it depends on your preference.

The first thing we check when we spot a good-looking blanket that we aim to buy is the care instructions. We check the manufacturer’s guide on how to wash the blanket and how to dry it. For travel, we need the easiest-to-go blankets. Also, our advice is to choose colors that don’t get dirty easily. You won’t be able to wash your blanket at any time while traveling.

Although it might not be the most important thing for some people, we care about the design of our sherpa blanket. We usually look for lovely designs and prints that appeal to our style. How does Moscow’s first theme park stack up against its foreign rivals?

For a country its size, it is rather unusual that present-day Russia is still entirely void of theme parks. We Russians, therefore, have traveled far and wide and visited every theme park on the planet, but we’ve never had  one of our own. Until now.

RBTH dispatched its own expert - a parent of three, who’s visited every Disneyland and Universal park, a few Six Flags, Legolands and Thorpe Park, as well. How does the Russian venue fare among them?

How Russian is it?

Not very. It does not capitalize at all on anything that would be recognisable as Russia-specific, not even popular home-made cartoon characters. The park looks and feels like it could have been anywhere in the world and was built clearly to mimic a typical theme park, such as Disneyland or a Universal theme park. Rides were mostly built and installed by companies that have installed similar rides in other parks around the world, and have been certified by a German company that specialises in theme park ride certification (not something we really have in Russia). The rides are all classified for permitted use based on rider's height, like elsewhere in the world.

“Character branding” makes heavy use of licensed characters like Hello Kitty, the Smurfs and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Hello Kitty and Smurf themes are used as theme zones for smaller children, with rides typical for such a park worldwide. One ride in the Hello Kitty zone is quite similar to Disney's well-known spinning teacups, but there will also be a beauty salon for little princesses. Sanrio, the owner of the Hello Kitty brand, will run a daily thematic show similar, again, to one they do in other parks. The Smurf zone, designed for smaller kids, reminds of the Dr. Seuss zone in the Universal theme park in Florida, or the Dumbo ride for the little ones in Disneyland.

The branding the park considers proprietary and localized is still based on internationally recognised themes that one does not usually associate with Russia - for example, the zone containing the park’s most thrilling ride is called Mowgli in the Land of Dinosaurs, both themes being quite generic, but neither particularly associated with Russia. Animatronic life-scale dinosaurs glare and roar at you in the jungle-themed zone. 

Other zones are based on the Snow Queen, a fairy tale by Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen that is very popular in Russia, and Pinocchio.

The rides and design concepts are all, to a degree, modeled on international prototypes and built by foreign contractors. The promenade zones that emulate well-known city streets and replicate some famous buildings are also a signature of various international entertainment environments (not least of all, the famous Las Vegas strip). 

The press office says they are often asked about the park’s perceived “non-Russianness” with apparent scorn, but bringing in international teams to design the rides and zones was inevitable, as Russia simply does not have this sort of expertise, because, well, it never had theme parks up until now. 

Is it like any park you may have been to?

Almost unexpectedly at this point, we’d have to say - Disneyland. It is decidedly a family park, and offerings tend to balance towards smaller kids. Its indoor nature precluded the installation of large-scale roller coasters, like you would see at Six Flags, Thorpe Park or Alton Towers. Both Disneyland and Universal make use of their outdoor locations to some extent, offering water-based rides - but you won't see any here. 

However, the sort of rides it does have are the most reminiscent of those parks - guests driven along a corridor decorated with characters and music (in this case, from the Hotel Transylvania animated movie) is a concept similar to Disney’s ‘It’s a small world!’, little kid zones and character greetings, smaller-scale thrill rides for the older ones (Disney and Universal do have semi-indoor versions of roller coasters, including one in the dark, and indoor thrill flights, both replicated here).

Both Disney and Universal have 4D-style rides, based on visitors sitting in a pod and being shown a video that makes it feel like they are on a roller coaster, in space or are falling (such as, a typical Star Wars ride at Disney or the Simpsons ride at Universal Florida). This is used heavily at Dream Island, but the offering is upgraded with more modern tech: the modestly looking coaster with sharp turns is enhanced by VR goggles that make you experience what it's like to be a race car driver. In another instance, a traditional “drop tower”, for lack of actual height, is enhanced with 4D and video in order to increase the thrill level.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles zone is a relatively “high thrills” zone for older visitors, and features the park’s only roller coaster. Most of the ride is in the dark, with comic-based “surprises” springing unexpectedly out at you. Its NYC subway-themed design of postindustrial devastation seems straight out of a generic international theme park and is more typical of a roller-coaster based park, such as Thorpe park in England.

Essentially, the park is newer and shinier than most of its prototypes – thanks to newer technology and solutions. 

Who owns it, where is it and is it actually an Island?

The park is entirely privately-owned by Regions Group, which is controlled by businessman Amiran Mutsoev. The investment is said to be approximately $1.5 billion. It is not actually an island, but a peninsula of sorts, with the Moskva River hugging it on three sides. It’s located next to the Tekhnopark station on Moscow Metro line 2 (the green line). 

Should you go?

Emphatically, yes! - whatever your expectations of a “Russian Disneyland” were, they will probably be met or exceeded. Move over, Disney, and tell Universal the news!

But perhaps, not yet. Even though the park officially opens this weekend, on February 29, 2020, about a year behind the initially anticipated opening, not all of its rides will yet be fully operational. The remaining rides are said to be available by the end of May 2020, so plan for the summer.

Other things to note are: the promenade zones will be fully open to the public (they are hoping for up to 50 million visitors a year), and you will only need tickets, which can be purchased at the ticket office in the promenade, online or at ticket vending machines, to get into the actual theme park. 

Tickets are circa $40, with various options for families and concessions.
