As expected, Beyoncé has announced a 2023 world tour on Instagram, supporting her multiple-Grammy-nominated 2022 album, “Renaissance.” She also released the dates and cities on her official website.

The timing of the announcement, which comes just days before the Grammy Awards on Sunday, sparks speculation that the singer may perform or at least appear on the show. Beyoncé is the most nominated artist for the awards with nine, all related to “ Renaissance .” Sources tell Variety that her husband Jay-Z will perform with DJ Khaled on the show, most likely their nominated song “God Did.”

Related stories, why the academy museum’s antisemitism criticism is overblown.

Beyoncé has said that “Renaissance” is a three-part project, so it’s possible that the next parts could be another album, a long-form video project or even the tour itself.

Beyoncé’s last full tour was the nearly six-month, 49-date “Formation” tour in 2016, which unusually featured no guest appearances until the final show, at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where she brought out Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z.

She did, however, stage an epochal “Homecoming” headlining performance at the 2018 Coachella festival — which was postponed from 2017 due to the birth of her and Jay’s twins — for which she was accompanied by a full marching band in a nod to historically Black colleges and universities. That blockbuster performance was later released as the “Homecoming” album and — via a three-project deal with Netflix that sources tell Variety is worth $60 million — a feature-length documentary. It seems possible that a future “Renaissance” video project could be part of that deal as well.

Beyoncé returned to the stage for first time in four years in January

Last month, Beyoncé made her return to the stage and performed at the opening of the Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai. Despite the luxury experience, the singer left fans wanting more, as she did not perform any songs from "Renaissance," The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The invitation-only event marked her first concert in more than four years. She last performed at the  Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 event in 2018.

Beyoncé dominates Grammy nominations

The singer's tour announcement comes days ahead of the Grammys where Beyoncé leads the 2023 lineup with nine nominations, including best dance/electronic album ("Renaissance"), best R&B performance ("Virgo’s Groove") and best traditional R&B performance ("Plastic Off the Sofa").

With 28 wins and 88 total career nominations, Beyoncé now ties her husband, rapper Jay-Z , for the most nominations in Grammy history. If Beyoncé picks up four or more awards this year, she will surpass the late Georg Solti for the most Grammy wins of all time. (The Hungarian-born conductor holds the record with 31.)

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have got "to be the most intense power couple in the history of music," Recording Academy president Harvey Mason Jr. Mason said after the nominations were revealed. "That’s music and Grammy royalty – that’s the royal family."

Their combined 176 nominations are "absolutely a testament to their talent, to their level of excellence, to their work ethic, to their level of greatness over a long period of time. I don’t even know what the next (leading) couple would be, but it’s not anywhere close.”

Beyoncé's 'Break My Soul.' Taylor Swift's 'Anti-Hero.'  These are the 10 best songs of 2022, ranked.

Beyoncé noticeably was not nominated in any of the music video categories for the Grammys, having not released any album visuals for "Renaissance" since its debut.

Beyoncé Announces Renaissance World Tour

The singer's record-breaking album is set to make history at this weekend's Grammys.

preview for What to Know About the 2023 Grammys

The superstar dropped the news this Wednesday morning on Instagram. In a post, she shared a photo of herself wearing a bejeweled armor-like bodysuit and silver mirrored cowboy hat while sitting atop a holographic horse.

"RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR 2023," she simply wrote in the caption.

Beyoncé released her seventh studio album on July 29, 2022, after recording it over three years during the COVID-19 pandemic. The singer wrote about the project in an open letter to fans.

"Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world," she shared. "It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving. My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration."

With Renaissance , Beyoncé has made Grammys history. For this year's ceremony —which takes place this coming Sunday—the star is nominated for nine awards, bringing her up to a total of 88 nominations to date. In a romantic turn, this ties her for the most-nominated artist in Grammys history with none other than her husband, Jay-Z.

Beyoncé's Renaissance smash "Break My Soul" is nominated for Record of the Year. This is her eighth nomination in the category and makes her the artist with the most ROTY nominations of all time. The track is also up for Best Dance/Electronic Recording, and the album is nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album.

Beyoncé Announces Dates for Renaissance World Tour

The long-expected global outing is in support of the singer’s seventh studio album, ‘Renaissance,’ which arrived to widespread acclaim last summer.

Early Wednesday, fans were alerted to the unveiling of world tour dates thanks to a pair of Instagram updates, including one from Beyoncé herself.

View this photo on Instagram

The U.S. portion of the tour starts in Philadelphia on July 12 and also includes stops in Nashville, Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and more. Due to such high demand, the singer has also added second shows in seven cities: Toronto, Chicago, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, and East Rutherford. The currently available dates have the tour wrapping in New Orleans on Sept. 27.

See the full list of dates here.

The tour, of course, arrives amid the singer’s Renaissance era , which kicked into gear last summer with the release of her acclaimed seventh studio album. The album ultimately bagged a leading nine nominations at this coming weekend’s 65 th Annual Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.  As previously reported , the reveal of this year’s nominees class was preceded by claims of a genre-focused dispute over the album among Recording Academy members .

Official news of the tour arrives after Beyoncé’s headlining performance at the reveal of Dubai’s new luxury hotel Atlantis The Royal, which notably marked her first full live show in five years. While footage and pics from the performance were met with the usual enthusiasm from fans, it also stirred criticism due to (among other issues) UAE’s laws targeting LGBTQIA+ citizens .

As for tickets to the newly announced tour, Beyoncé’s official site (at the time of this writing, at least) lists each date’s availability as “soon.” Ticket-based controversies have dominated music news coverage in recent months, including a Ticketmaster presale event for Taylor Swift’s tour that later spurred a Senate hearing .

Atlantis The Royal Grand Reveal Weekend 2023 - Beyonce Performance

B eyoncé’s fans have been waiting for this day: the pop megastar finally announced that she will embark on the long-awaited Renaissance World Tour. She uploaded a post to Instagram early Wednesday morning with the caption: “RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR 2023,” and her official website has been updated to show the tour dates. The tour starts in May in Sweden and will hit Belgium, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Poland, before she makes her way to North America. The first date stateside will be in Philadelphia, Pa., in July and the tour will hit the major U.S. cities before wrapping up in New Orleans, La., on Sept. 27.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

Following the release of her seventh album, Renaissance , in July, fans have been itching for a tour announcement, in addition to music videos to accompany the songs. Beyoncé’s last solo tour was the Formation World Tour back in 2016 to support her sixth album, Lemonade . Following that, she went on the On The Run Tour with her husband, Jay-Z, in 2018 after releasing their joint project, Everything Is Love . The announcement of a new tour just before the Grammy Awards on Sunday raises suspicion that Beyoncé might be performing or, at the very least, attending the night’s festivities.

The singer is nominated for nine Grammys at this year’s awards ceremony, which are set to take place on Feb. 5 in Los Angeles. This year, she is up against Adele for multiple awards, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year. There has been speculation about whether or not Beyoncé would be performing ever since the nominations were announced. The last time fans saw her perform on a major televised stage was at last year’s Oscars ceremony, where she performed “Be Alive” from the King Richard movie for the first time.

Read More: 6 Takeaways from Beyoncé’s New Album Renaissance

Beyoncé most recently took the stage for a private concert at the opening of the Atlantis The Royal resort in Dubai in January. However, she did not perform any songs from Renaissance . Also, given that Beyoncé unveiled the album’s title on Instagram as “act [one],” her dedicated fanbase has been busy theorizing what acts two and three might be. Some have hypothesized that the tour would be act two and then a concert movie would be act three. Others have ventured to guess that this is a three-part album and that Renaissance was just the beginning.

Tickets for the concert will not be an easy get if Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is any indication. Beyoncé’s fans can click on the date they would like to attend to register for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program and will then have to wait to see if they are given an access code to purchase tickets to the event. With Verified Fan and the “unexpected” traffic the pre-sale brought to the site, many Swifties likened the ticket-buying process to a warzone. The disastrous rollout drew ire from Swift’s fans and political officials alike. After the ticketing fiasco, the Senate held a hearing to look into whether Live Nation and Ticketmaster have a monopoly over the ticketing industry. This, coupled with the technical problems that Swift fans faced, have Beyoncé fans worrying that finding their way to an actual concert will be nothing short of an ordeal.

Beginning on May 10 in Stockholm, and continuing in Europe through June before coming to North America, the Renaissance World Tour, in support of her seventh solo album, will run for at least 40 dates, largely in stadiums, according to dates posted to Beyoncé’s website . The tour includes one night at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey (July 29) and one at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. (Sept. 2) amid stops in Chicago, Philadelphia, Toronto, Atlanta, Phoenix and Miami.

Limited tickets for certain tour dates will go on sale beginning Monday for members of Beyoncé’s BeyHive fan club, followed by the staggered release of additional tickets by market, using a complex registration system for various tiers of buyer.

The tour, produced by Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment and promoted by Live Nation, will use Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan system , which aims to limit bots and professional scalpers, marking one of the first major tests for Ticketmaster since extraordinary demand for early tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour last year led to fan backlash and regulatory scrutiny . At a Senate Judiciary hearing last month spurred by the botched presale, artists, fans and politicians cast Live Nation Entertainment, the concert industry giant that owns Ticketmaster, as a monopoly that hinders competition and harms consumers.

Beyoncé’s shows will be the singer’s first live events available to the public since the On the Run II tour with her husband, Jay-Z, in 2018, tied to the surprise release of a joint album, “Everything Is Love,” by the duo billed as the Carters. Beyoncé last toured alone behind her previous solo album, “Lemonade,” in 2016. Two years later, she headlined the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

That show — which went on to be released as “Homecoming” (2019), a live album and concert film — was called “rich with history, potently political and visually grand” in a review by the New York Times critic Jon Caramanica. “By turns uproarious, rowdy, and lush. A gobsmacking marvel of choreography and musical direction.”

In the years since, Beyoncé has surfaced intermittently, including with songs like “Black Parade,” which won a Grammy Award for best R&B performance, and “Be Alive,” which appeared in the movie “King Richard” and was nominated for an Oscar. Last year, in a taped performance, Beyoncé performed the song at the 94th annual Academy Awards.

But the singer made a return to the pop mainstream in earnest with the July 2022 release of “Renaissance,” a dance-floor-oriented album that she said was inspired by the L.G.B.T.Q. community and has spawned hits like “Break My Soul” and “Cuff It.” At the Grammy Awards on Sunday, Beyoncé is nominated nine times , with a chance to become the most-awarded artist in history.

Upon its release, the singer called “Renaissance” part of a “three act project” that she recorded during the pandemic. “My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment,” she wrote of the album, which was billed as Act I. “A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom.”

Major music touring has largely recovered, especially at its highest levels, since the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the industry trade publication Pollstar , touring grossed a record-setting $6.28 billion last year, up more than 13 percent from 2019, due in part to pent-up fan demand, inflation and major acts like Bad Bunny, Elton John and Harry Styles.

In addition to Beyoncé’s shows, this year will see blockbuster tours from artists including Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Metallica, Morgan Wallen and Madonna.

Last month, Beyoncé proved more polarizing than usual when she headlined the grand opening of a luxury hotel in Dubai, performing for an invite-only collection of guests, including influencers and journalists.

While some fans decried the optics of taking a major payday in a place that criminalizes homosexuality — “Beyoncé’s Dubai performance isn’t just an affront to LGBTQ+ fans, but workers’ rights in the UAE,” The Guardian declared — others noted that the singer’s set list did not yet include songs from “Renaissance.”

An earlier version of this article misstated the year Beyoncé headlined Coachella. It was 2018, not 2016.

Fans can prepare to enter Club Renaissance.

If you haven't been able to stop singing the lyrics to Break My Soul, Church Girl or Cuff It, there's a chance you'll get to belt the songs out in an arena while watching Beyoncé perform. The singer announced upcoming dates for her Renaissance tour, setting the internet on fire.

She dropped an Instagram post with the simple words: Renaissance World Tour 2023. It features a photo of herself wearing a crystal-covered harness and cowgirl hat, and a link to her website where the dates are listed. The tour kicks off in Europe in May and wraps in New Orleans in September.

Beyoncé released the Renaissance album in July, and it was rumored that she would go on tour this summer. Fans in the US and Canada can now register using Ticketmaster's Verified Fan, a system that helps filter out resellers and bots to assist fans seeking to purchase tickets. A note on the site acknowledges that registration does not guarantee tickets, and buyers who sign up for Verified Fan may be placed in a lottery to determine if they'll receive an access code or a spot on the waiting list. But hurry, there are registration deadlines scattered throughout February.

Fans around the globe can visit Ticketmaster to find out when tickets will go on sale in their region. Sale dates begin on Feb. 2 and continue through the month.

Beyoncé has only released two teasers that feature visuals off the album, leading many fans to eagerly anticipate the visuals that are coming with the tour:

Forbes estimates that ticket revenues for the Renaissance world tour could range from $275 million to $2.5 billion. Since the album dropped, rumors have been circulating that Beyoncé, who last toured her solo album in 2016 when she took Lemonade on the Formation World Tour, would be embarking on a stadium tour with Renaissance and it wasn’t "All up in Your Mind!"

The tour announcement comes days ahead of the  Grammys where Beyoncé leads the 2023 lineup with nine nominations, including best dance/electronic album "Renaissance", best R&B performance "Virgo’s Groove" and best traditional R&B performance "Plastic Off the Sofa."

With 28 wins and 88 total career nominations, Beyoncé now ties her husband, rapper Jay-Z, for the most nominations in Grammy history. If Beyoncé picks up four or more awards this year, she will surpass the late Georg Solti for the most Grammy wins of all time.

On October 22, it was confirmed at the fifth annual Wearable Art Gala, where Beyoncé was in attendance, that the album will be taken on the road next year.

Beyoncé Strips Down To Silver Bodysuit On A Glistening Horse To Announce Renaissance World Tour

The last time Queen Bey went on a world tour was in 2016 for her album 'Lemonade'.

preview for Beyonce's Best Red Carpet Looks

The singer shared the news by sharing the risqué photo – which seems to be the world tour's official poster – with her 294 million Instagram followers, captioning the post 'RENAISSANCEㅤ ㅤWORLD TOUR 2023'.

Beyoncé's website has also been updated with details of the tour, including dates and locations. The singer is set to kick off her world tour in Europe, beginning with a concert in Stockholm on May 10, before coming to the UK on the 17th of the same month. She will play concerts in Cardiff, Edinburgh and Sunderland, before taking over Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London for two nights on May 29 and 30. Beyoncé will end her tour in New Orleans in September 2023.

Though tickets for the long-awaited tour are yet to be released – a link to purchase simply reads 'SOON' – the internet has gone into total meltdown, and understandably so, since the singer has practically been radio silent since releasing her Renaissance album in July 2022. The Twitter-verse, of course, is already banging out the memes too.

Renaissance was Beyoncé 's seventh album to hit number one on the Billboard chart, and she has suggested that it was the first in a three-part series of album releases. This tour also marks the singer's first since 2018, when she co-headlined the 'On the Run II Tour' with husband Jay-Z, and her first solo headline tour since Lemonade 's 2016 'Formation World Tour' .

beyonce world tour announcement

Beyoncé teased a potential return to the stage when she performed a private, 60-minute concert at the grand opening of Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai last month. However, she notably only performed her more classic hits (including a sweet duet of 'Brown Skin Girls' with daughter Blue Ivy) and steered clear of Renaissance tracks entirely – despite the stage featuring artwork from her latest album.

We will continue to update this article as more information on Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour is released...

Beyoncé announces Renaissance world tour: Which concerts are closest to Cleveland?

  • Published: Feb. 02, 2023, 8:25 a.m.
  • Tribune News Service

Beyoncé on Wednesday announced her forthcoming Renaissance world tour and posted the concert dates on her website. The singer will travel across Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States, with the tour kicking off May 10 in Stockholm and concluding Sept. 27 in New Orleans.

Fans can register for Ticketmaster’s Renaissance tour presale via Beyoncé's  website  by signing up for any of three registration groups with different deadlines and different cities — perhaps an attempt to streamline the ticket-buying process and prevent another Eras Tour fiasco. Buyers are permitted to sign up for multiple registration groups.

According to the site, there are no tour stops in Ohio. However, Beyoncé will be at Ford Field in Detroit on July 26th and in Pittsburgh on August 3rd for a concert at Acrisure Stadium. The next closest tour stops are in Chicago (7/22) and Louisville (7/17).

Rumors of a Renaissance tour have been circulating since October, when two tickets to see Beyoncé perform “live from anywhere around the world” were auctioned off at her mother and stepfather’s Wearable Art Gala in Los Angeles. The tickets reportedly sold for $150,000.

This marks Queen Bey’s first time hitting the road since she and husband Jay-Z co-headlined their On the Run II tour in 2018. Her first concert since then was last month at luxury hotel Atlantis the Royal in Dubai. The private show was part of a three-day event celebrating the opening of the resort on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah island.

Beyoncé unveiled her Renaissance tour dates several months after releasing her seventh studio album of the same name. In November, music from the critically acclaimed record received eight Grammy nominations, including a nod for album of the year. When the Recording Academy released this year’s nominations, Beyoncé and Jay-Z became the most nominated artists of all time with a total of 88 nods apiece.

“Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world,” Beyoncé wrote  on Instagram  in June.

“It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving. My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration. I hope you find joy in this music. I hope it inspires you to release the wiggle. Ha! And to feel as unique, strong, and sexy as you are.”
