The Best Travel Shows On Hulu Right Now

Zach Johnston

Last Updated: March 17th

We all need a good travel show to binge right now. With so many travel restrictions in place for an undetermined amount of time, it’s how we live vicariously these days. A great travel TV show takes us somewhere, teaches us something new, and hopefully stokes our wanderlust fires to hit the road … one day.

Somewhat oddly, Hulu has a shortage of travel shows (hit us up, Hulu, we’ve got pitches for you!). There are a few gems from Travel Channel and a couple of Hulu-made shows. Otherwise, most of the shows that come up under “travel” are very food-focused. And, yes, travel and food are invariably married by the format. But, food TV isn’t always travel -focused and vice versa.

With the ten travel shows below we tried to lean into shows that are purely travel programing. There are, of course, a couple of shows that delve into food on the road, that’s unavoidable. But overall these are shows where the experience of travel is front-and-center.

Up To Speed

travel shows hulu

1 Season, 6 Episodes | IMDb: 6.6/10

Up To Speed was Hulu’s first foray into travel TV. The show combined the cinematic genius of Richard Linklater — you know, the guy who made Dazed and Confused , Bernie , and the Before trilogy — and New York City’s eccentric tour guide Timothy “Speed” Levitch. The six-episode single season is one of the most unique travel shows ever filmed. Speed goes around the lesser-known landmarks of six locations in San Francisco, Chicago, Kansas & Missouri, Virginia, New York City, and The Tour Guides Convention. It’s a little wild, very informational, and quirky with a capital “Q.”

The Amazing Race

travel shows hulu

29 Seasons, 348 Episodes | IMDb: 7.6/10

We feel like The Amazing Race needs little introduction in 2020. The race-around-the-world gameshow is a cornerstone of reality television that’s been around since 2001. There are 29 entire seasons available right now on Hulu to binge-watch. You’ll see diverse locales, drama-laden journeys, and plenty of stunts to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Basic Versus Baller: Travel at Any Cost

travel shows hulu

1 Season, 10 Episodes

Instagram travel influencers and YouTubers the Vagabrothers launched their first show on Tastemade that has a very useful and unique look at the travel show. The brothers roll into new locations and split up. One takes on the city on a budget and the other goes all out as only a baller only can. It’s a fascinating way to see the same place from two very different POVs. And with only ten episodes to choose from, you can easily binge this show in an evening.

travel shows hulu

2 Seasons, 8 Episodes | IMDb: 7.7/10

This short series from Viceland starring Ellen Page and her long-time friend Ian Daniel is one of the most illuminating shows on this list. Page and Daniel travel the world examining LGBTQI communities. This is part travel, part culture, and part educational. Episodes focus on the trials and outright hardships that LGBTQI communities still live under in places like Brazil, the U.S., India, Ukraine, and more.

It’s a fascinating and wholly unique travel TV experience that’s a must-watch.

Huang’s World

travel shows hulu

2 Seasons, 18 Episodes | IMDb: 7.9/10

Chef Eddie Huang’s travel show is a modern and meaningful bit of television. While there’s a very food-centric focus to a lot of the show, Huang’s real purpose while traveling is to delve into varied cultures and learn as much as he can whether food is involved or not. There’s a definite sense of the show being a knock-off of Bourdain’s Parts Unknown and No Reservations . But with Huang’s affability and curiosity always present, that’s okay by our count.

Man vs. Wild

travel shows hulu

2 Seasons, 12 Episodes | IMDb: 8.1/10

Surviving in the wilds is no easy task. While this feels a little more like survival reality television, travel and adventure are 100 percent at the core of Man Vs. Wild . Bear Grylls goes through the hardships of surviving seemingly impossible situations in the wilderness to help you understand survival techniques while also being very entertaining.

Travel Man: 48 Hours in…

travel shows hulu

7 Seasons, 28 Episodes | IMDb: 8.3/10

In this useful and entertaining British travel show, director-writer-actor Richard Ayoade travels the world with a celebrity pal and jokes ensue. The show does lean into being entertaining upfront but Ayoade and guests always find time to lay down some serious tips for every location they visit. The overall concept is a look at a city within a 48-hour window, the costs of enjoying oneself, and where to do so. It’s fun, fast, and an easy AF binge-watch.

Rick Steves’ Europe

travel shows hulu

9 Seasons, 103 Episodes | IMDb: 8.4/10

Rick Steves’ Europe is the gold-standard of travelogue shows. Steves has been making travel shows since the 1980s and leading tours to Europe since the 1970s. The guy knows where the good stuff is in Europe is what we’re saying.

What makes Steves’ take on travel stand out is his no-judgment nature. Steves doesn’t have a problem with you seeing the main tourist attractions but always implores you to stay at local hotels or B&Bs and eat where the locals eat, shunning chains and corporate properties. It’s a hard ethos to argue with.

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations

travel shows hulu

2 Seasons, 32 Episodes | IMDb: 8.4/10

It’s kind of a shame there are only two seasons of No Reservations left on Hulu. These days, Anthony Bourdain and No Reservations feels like comfort food. Bourdain’s empathetic and no-nonsense approach to travel is still a breath of fresh air, making a binge of these old episodes an easy rewatch for any fan or a great jumping-off place for any newbie.

travel shows hulu

1 Season, 10 Episodes | IMDb: 8.5/10

This is another wonderfully unique travel show hidden away in Hulu’s travel archives. Legendary skateboarder Rick McCrank travels around the U.S. and Canada’s emptied towns, industrial centers, and neighborhoods with his skateboard underfoot. It’s part eery, part travel, and part skater dreamscape. The show goes beyond the obvious at every turn with McCrank talking to the locals who live in places emptied by nuclear waste spills, economic downturns, and political abandonment. It’s as culturally fascinating as it’s travel-inspiring.

Never Say Never With Jeff Jenkins

Travel journalist Jeff Jenkins lives by the philosophy that “life truly happens at the end of your comfort zone.” We see this as he tests his mental and physical limits as he does sumo wrestling in Japan, swims with whale sharks in Mexico, and treks up the more-than-2,000 miles of the Adirondack Mountains. Throughout this global odyssey, Jenkins connects with locals in every destination, from immersing himself in Maori culture to catching king crabs with multi-generational fishermen—learning more about the world around him and himself each step of the way.

Planet Earth and Planet Earth II

We had to wait 10 years between the debut of Planet Earth , a groundbreaking natural history show narrated by Sir David Attenborough, and its sequel Planet Earth II , but it was worth it. The first season, which focus on a specific biome and the flora and fauna that live there in each episode, spotlights smooth coated otters in Southeast Asia, Tibetan foxes, critically endangered Ethiopian ibex, and blue whales, among so many others. Our two favorite episodes, though, come from part II. In the sixth episode, the high-def cameras turn to cities to show how leopards in Mumbai, monkeys in Jodhpur, and catfish in southern France live alongside humans. And in what may be the most heart-racing episode of nature television, the islands episode of Planet Earth II follows a lone iguana racing against time—and a horde of snakes.

Long Way Up

Believe it or not, actor Ewan McGregor has been in the travel show business for some 16 years. It all started with Long Way Round , a 2004 series that followed McGregor and his friend Charley Boorman on a motorcycle journey from London through Europe, Asia—and then after a flight to Alaska—Canada, and the U.S. all the way to New York City. The show was followed by 2007's Long Way Down, which took the duo from Scotland to South Africa, on motorcycles once again. Now, they've turned their bikes (electric this time) towards South and Central America, with the latest iteration following the duo some 13,000 miles from Ushuaia, Argentina, on the continent's southernmost tip, to L.A. As usual, hijinks, pitfalls, and stunning scenery are all on view. Neither of the earlier shows are available to stream in the U.S. currently (though you can find them on Apple TV+ in the U.K.), but Long Way Up is an Apple TV+ original and on view for all.

Somebody Feed Phil

This Netflix original follows host Phil Rosenthal, the creator of Everybody Loves Raymond , as he eats his way through cities like Bangkok , Lisbon, Mexico City , New Orleans , Buenos Aires , Cape Town, and Dublin. The hyper-positive show was called "impossibly optimistic," by former Traveler editor Paul Brady, who spoke with Rosenthal before the first season's premiere in 2018. The seventh season, takes Rosenthal from Mumbai to Kyoto to Iceland to eat even more delicious grub.  Watch now: Free with a Netflix subscription ( sign up for Netflix here )

Parts Unknown

Parts Unknown

You simply cannot have a list of the best travel shows and not feature the late Anthony Bourdain. In fact, he's on our list more than once. In Parts Unknown , the chef and travel personality circled the world many times over, in search of music, culture, humor, history, and—of course—really good food. Over 12 seasons (the last aired posthumously), Bourdain visited the indigenous Andes with Eric Ripert, the Sochi Winter Olympics, the Mississippi Delta, and, most famously, Hanoi with then-president Barack Obama. (That's season eight, episode two, if you want to jump right to it.)

Street Food Asia

Street Food

Made by the same folks behind Chef's Table (spoiler: it's also on this list), this show moves away from formal restaurant kitchens and onto the streets, for a guide to some of the world's best curbside meals and snacks . The show's first season is all about Asia, traveling to nine different countries to meet the people behind the food, like Jay Fai from Bangkok's Raan Jay Fai , a Michelin-starred street stall serving up tom yum soup, and Truoc (pictured left), who serves a variety of snail dishes in Ho Chi Minh City . The second season, which hit Netflix in July, zeroes in on Latin America, with stops at Doña Vale's in Oaxaca for memelas and Las Chicas de las Tres food stall in Buenos Aires, run by chef Pato Rodriguez.

Lost Cities With Albert Lin

In this National Geographic –produced show, explorer and scientist Albert Lin tracks down some of the world's most famous lost cities. We're talking buried Knights Templar caves in Israel, El Dorado in the jungles of Colombia, and ancient, forgotten island cities in Micronesia. Along the way, he speaks with archaeologists, historians, and other experts to discover the origins of the legends and, in turn, the reality of those places today.

David Chang drinking pickle juice in Istanbul

Ugly Delicious

The second season of the David Chang –hosted Netflix series debuted in March 2020, taking viewers from Istanbul (pictured), to Tokyo , to Sydney , to… Outback Steakhouse? Along the way, he tackles balancing parenthood with restaurant life, cooks with Top Chef 's Padma Lakshmi , rubs elbows with comedians like Nick Kroll and Aziz Ansari, and gets a lesson in not calling all Indian food curries from Traveler contributor Priya Krishna . (If you want more Chang, try your hand at a recipe from his Momofuku cookbook, or watch Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner , also on Netlfix, where he joins one famous friend on a food tour of a city, like Chrissy Teigen in Marrakech.)

Produced by Vice , this show is about the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. In it, actor Elliot Page and their film director friend Ian Daniel travel to learn about what it's like to be LGBTQ+ around the world. They meet with two-spirit Native Americans, head to ballroom scenes in New York City, and visit the gay bars of Tokyo to dive deep into the vibrant gay and queer culture. But the duo also spends time in Rio de Janeiro, Jamaica, and Ukraine, speaking with LGBTQ+ locals to learn about the discrimination and threats they face just by existing. Expect tears, both happy and sad.

Carmen Sandiego

Many of us got our first lesson in geography from this trench coat–wearing master thief, and today's kids can too, thanks to the Netflix reboot of this animated series. This high-flying, Robin Hood–style caper takes kids (and parents) with Sandiego as she jet sets between Rio de Janeiro , Matsumoto in Japan, Amsterdam, Mumbai, and more. There are three seasons available and plenty of educational value here for mapheads—plus pretty stellar animation. This year, an interactive choose-you-own-adventure style show, called Carmen Sandiego: To Steal or Not to Steal, came to Netflix and provides endless entertainment as Sandiego fights off the Villains International League of Evil (V.I.L.E.), with your (kid's) help. If Planet Earth and Planet Earth II weren't enough Attenborough for your liking, get your fix on Netflix, thanks to Our Planet . This docuseries, made by the creators of Planet Earth in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund and narrated by Attenborough, is almost a mix of the two, taking armchair travelers from the North American grasslands and the Everglades to the Arctic tundra and deepest parts of our oceans. No Reservations

If you want even more Bourdain, Hulu has you covered with No Reservations and The Layover, two of his travel shows that preceded Parts Unknown . In No Reservations, Bourdain takes us to both familiar—Maine, Prague, the Philippines—and unfamiliar—Kurdistan, Mozambique, and deep into the Amazon—corners and kitchens of our world, introducing us to new foods, cultures, and personalities over nine seasons. The Layover takes that same premise, but shortens the time line drastically, knocking down Bourdain's time to explore to just 24 to 48 hours. Both are must-sees—it's Bourdain after all.

Chef's Table: BBQ

While you can watch some of world’s most extraordinary chefs (like Dominque Crenn ; Peruvian Virgilio Martínez , the owner of Lima's Central restaurant; and Swede Magnus Nilsson ) as they create impossibly complicated dishes in the original Chef's Table, we've become partial to its latest iteration, which is all about barbecue. The Netflix original docuseries follows pitmasters like Tootsie Tomanetz—the 85-year-old spitfire pictured above who minds the brisket and sausage at Snow's, outside of Austin—and Rodney Scott, known for his Low Country–style pulled pork and ribs. But the show doesn't stick to the American South. Travels with My Father

The first season of this Netflix original, which came out in 2017, follows British stand-up comedian Jack Whitehall and his father, Michael, across Southeast Asia, tracking the duo as they finish the gap year Jack never got to complete, just a few years late (eight, to be exact). It's everything you'd expect: a Thai full moon party and, of course, a trip to Cambodia's Angkor Wat, but the moments in between are what make the show really worth watching. Now, in the three seasons that have followed, the father-son pair have road tripped through Transylvania , visited Chernobyl , and gotten into drag with Sydney queens. Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories

Set in a tiny Tokyo diner that's only open from midnight to 7 a.m., the fictional show follows the Midnight Diner's owner and clientele as they share their trials and joys, all while eating whatever the owner, called Master, dishes up. In the diner, pork miso soup is the go-to, but Master will cook visitors anything they order, as long as he's got the goods to make it. Get your international fix by watching Antoni , Karamo , Jonathan , Tan , and Bobby makeover the wardrobes and lives of everyday “heroes” in Yass, Australia , and Tokyo in their Queer Eye specials. That said, we're partial to the U.S.-based seasons, where the Fab Five hits up Atlanta, Kansas City, and, most recently, Philadelphia to give new life to regular folks. Whether they're making over the sisters behind Jones Bar-B-Q in Kansas City or the small town mayor of Clarkston, Georgia, we're on board. Places to Love

For many years, Samantha Brown was the only female host on travel TV , period. And while some, albeit small, growth has been made in this regard (Nosrat and Kellee Edwards are among the new faces), Brown is still one of the few women on the go on our screens. While she made her start on the Travel Channel with Passport to Europe, Passport to Latin America, and Passport to China , you should really be checking out her latest show, Places to Love. Now in its third season, the show sees Brown discovering off-the-beaten-path spots in some of the world's most loved destinations as far-flung as Seoul and Auckland, and right in our backyard, like Phoenix and Dallas .

The World According to Jeff Goldblum

Ok, so this isn't as much of a travel show as it is a “what is Jeff Goldblum curious about” show—but it doesn't mean they don't travel all over the U.S. With each episode focusing on the actor's ceaseless interest in the minutiae of one specific thing (like tattoos, or pools, or RVs, or ice cream—it really runs the gamut). Over the course of the show, Goldblum visits Hawaii , Las Vegas , NASA’s neutral buoyancy lab in Houston , and so much more. If you love Goldblum, you'll probably love this show.

While we wait for borders to open , these fuel-your-wanderlust shows will take you off the couch to Italy, England, Norway, France, and Peru (by magic shopping cart). Can you tell we’re excited about Michelle Obama’s fantastical new global food show, Waffles and Mochi ? It debuts next week on Netflix. Until then, explore the world from home by streaming any of these 26 travel shows and TV shows set in foreign countries.

Waffles and Mochi

Watch it : Netflix

A Sesame Street –style kids’ TV show for the budding chef, Waffles and Mochi follows the eponymous puppets—one a sweet little monster with waffles for ears, the other a sentient pink rice ball—around the world as they seek out fresh global ingredients and learn about healthy eating and cooking.

This show will appeal to adults as much as to toddlers. To start: Michelle Obama costars (this is part of the Obamas’ production deal with Netflix) as a grocery store owner who teaches Waffles and Mochi about the wide world beyond the Land of Frozen Food. Off on fabulous journeys they go—to Japan, Peru, Italy, where they have friendly encounters with famous chefs like Samin Nosrat and José Andrés, as well as special guests Rashida Jones, Queer Eye ’s Tan France, Zach Galifianakis, Sia, Common, and more (technically, Mandy Moore). Start streaming it on Netflix March 16. —Laura Dannen Redman

Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy

Watch it : CNN

Actor Stanley Tucci kept spirits afloat with his cocktail and cooking demos on Instagram during lockdown. When travel restrictions lifted in Europe last year, Tucci traveled to Italy—where he has deep roots—to film this six-episode series exploring food and culture through Italy’s people, cities, and regions: Sicily, Tuscany, Milan, Bologna, Rome, and Naples and the Amalfi Coast.

For those desperately missing Italy, Tucci is the perfect knowledgeable yet curious tour guide, introducing his friends—winemakers, chefs, and authors—who he pokes a little fun at, and taking you on tours, such as around Florence’s Renaissance-era wine windows, aka “little doors of paradise.”

If the show leaves you craving more, buy his two Italian cookbooks— The Tucci Table: Cooking with Family and Friends and The Tucci Cookbook— and preorder his memoir, Taste: My Life Through Food . The series has been renewed for season two. — Annie Fitzsimmons

Who is Lupin? He’s a gentleman thief, a master of disguise, a sort of French superhero at the heart of Maurice Leblanc’s short stories, “Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar.” These early 20th-century Sherlockian tales inspire the new Netflix show, Lupin , starring Omar Sy ( The Intouchables ) as a Senegalese immigrant in today’s Paris who follows Arsène’s escapades as a road map for revenge.

In the pilot episode Sy’s Arsène struts through the Louvre disguised as a janitor, plotting a jewelry heist like a cohort of Danny Ocean. Lupin is also full of lust-worthy shots of the city: a room with a view of Sacré-Cœur; the Eiffel Tower from every angle; the Jardin du Luxembourg in the rain; a bustling café. A heist thriller is only as good as its setting, and Lupin —and Paris—deliver. —L.D.R.

Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham

Watch it : Starz

If the popular period drama Outlander didn’t already have you craving a trip to Scotland, this travel show starring Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser in Outlander ) and Graham McTavish ( Outlander’s Dougal Mackenzie) will seal the deal. Even if you’re not an Outlander devotee, this Scottish duo, who are constantly making jabs at each other and themselves, are ideal guides for this literal campervan road trip through Scotland. Their banter is on point (you can tell they’re good pals IRL), and they transport viewers into the heart and soul of the country without taking themselves too seriously.

Each episode focuses on a different aspect of Scottish culture and history. For the food and drink episode, Heughan and McTavish visit one of Scotland’s oldest whisky distilleries and introduce viewers to Scottish seafood. For the sports episode, they try their hand at archaic Highland Games (aka throwing a massive hammer) and playing golf on Scotland’s most hallowed turf. And for the song and dance episode, viewers learn more about bagpipes and traditional Scottish dancing—Heughan and McTavish are game guinea pigs while also offering insights and knowledge into the theme at hand.

I’m not always big on traditional “travel shows,” but I absolutely love this one and am ready to book my first trip to Scotland ASAP after watching. — Michelle Baran

Watch it : Apple TV

West London’s Richmond upon Thames, with its distinctly British cobblestone shopping alleys, parks, and lively pubs, is the backdrop to the story of very American Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis.

Lasso is an American football coach hired to reboot a Premier League British football team, AFC Richmond. An eternal optimist, Ted is someone you wish you knew—warm and funny, with leadership skills that win over nearly everyone he meets in this fish-out-of-water story.

The Apple TV show isn’t really about sports, though there are plenty of soaring, heart-pumping soccer—football!—scenes. There are love triangles and mishaps, a delightful cast of characters, and the realization that you can do the impossible if you just “Believe,” Ted’s motto. The show has already been renewed for two more seasons. —A.F.

The head of government rides her bike to work: two clues this series isn’t set in the United States. In Copenhagen, everyone rides a bike. Maybe “Danish political drama” doesn’t sound compelling but this is, with a standout cast of well-developed characters. It follows the path of politician Birgitte Nyborg and how demands of her rise to power clash with her family life. Concerns about media news coverage are among the issues making this drama universal. The show, with an 8.5 IMDb rating, originally aired 2010–2013; Netflix plans a fourth season for 2022. — Pat Tompkins

If you’re one of the few who haven’t seen Bridgerton yet (apparently, it’s Netflix’s most successful series ever ), and you miss the U.K., it’s time to settle into Shonda Rhimes’s soapy, steamy Regency-era drama that reimagines the time as one when equality reigns: Black and white people coexist as equals, and the Queen is Black.

It centers on the romance between debutante Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset, reluctant Duke of Hastings. Scenic British locations include the Bridgerton family home, Ranger’s House in Greenwich, London; promenades in Bath’s green parks and Royal Crescent; and parties at Wilton House in Salisbury as the Duke’s country mansion. — A.F.

Four Weddings and a Funeral

Watch it : Hulu

This 10-episode series from Mindy Kaling is nothing like the movie it takes its name from, except that there are four weddings and one funeral. London has never looked more magical as friends in their thirties fall in love, break up, and get married across rooftop parties in Trafalgar Square, conversations at the National Gallery and inside dreamy Notting Hill houses, and walks in Kew Gardens.

Like its cast, but unlike so many romantic comedies, it also showcases the diversity of the city through Indian family culture in Hounslow and the multicultural Southall Market. It’s completely addictive, and you might replay the final 10 minutes of the series (a wedding, of course!) over and over again. — A.F.

Un Village Francais/A French Village

Watch it : Amazon Prime

Over seven seasons, this series captures what German occupation of a fictional village, Villeneuve, meant for its inhabitants from 1940 to 1945. Instead of battles, we get the war’s impact on civilian life, an impact that affects everyone. It could have been a soap opera, but it’s not, thanks to complex characters and intriguing stories.

Among those in the first episode are Spanish refugees, a Jewish family, and the town doctor, all coping with the sudden upheaval of life in Occupied France. Travel to a different place and time in these 80+ episodes. — P.T.

Home for Christmas

The first Norwegian series from Netflix, Home for Christmas was filmed in Oslo and the small mining town of Røros, known for its colorful wooden buildings from the 1700s. We see the town and countryside dressed for the holidays, with snow, twinkle lights, and cider at Christmas markets aplenty.

But the festive season is just a vehicle for showcasing the complicated bonds of family. The show follows the up-and-down love life and quirky characters surrounding Johanne, a nurse in her thirties who feels pressure from her large, boisterous family to settle down. But what relationship can compete with her friendships? — A.F.

Call My Agent

Calling all francophiles. For those missing not just France but the language and people as well, this French-language Netflix show is génial . Call My Agent is a witty comedy about a Paris-based talent agency. The central cast of characters brings viewers along as they manage the many moods and demands of their high-maintenance actor clients. (They do everything from intervene when clients refuse to get intimate on a film set to help a client learn to drive for a movie role, plus attend ridiculous soirées to appease these high-strung celebs.)

As the series continues, deeper emotional themes around family, friendship, and love develop. I found myself tearing up (in a good way) by the end of the first season, something I wasn’t expecting at all at the start. The comic relief serves as a wonderful escape and there’s something oddly satisfying about seeing behind the scenes of France’s acting and filming world even if it is a fictional look. — M.B.

Indian Matchmaking

This is a reality show, with all its tropes and gimmicks, inviting us to be voyeurs of the Indian dating world. But Indian Matchmaking is also a fascinating glimpse into the culture of matchmaking and quasi-arranged marriages, for both the singles and families. It follows Mumbai-based matchmaker Sima Taparia as she tries to pair clients both in the U.S. and India; the scenes in India are most vibrant and really make the show worth a watch even if you’re skeptical about the premise.

You feel like you’re sitting right next to the characters in that Mumbai restaurant or Delhi bar as they chat with friends or go out on that first (slightly awkward) date with their match. — M.B.

If your family is driving you up the wall, imagine self-quarantining with Succession ’s Roy family. The Best Time Travel Shows to Watch on Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Amazon, and More

We've all dreamed of living in another period

instg.png

Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, Outlander

At this point, there's no shortage of shows that deal with time travel in some capacity. It's a popular subject, and for good reason! Now more than ever you might be looking for an escape from your daily life, or from this era altogether, and no one in their right mind could blame you for that. If you're of the belief that existing in one timeline is overrated, you've arrived at the right list.

Some of the shows here are action-packed dramas, while others take a more whimsical approach to history, but all of them are absolutely binge-worthy masterpieces. Whether you want to travel back hundreds of years or just a couple of decades, you'll find the perfect time travel show recommendation in the list below!

Looking for more recommendations of what to watch next?  We have a ton of them!  And if you're looking for more hand-picked recommendations based on shows you love,  we have those too .

Tom Hiddleston, Loki

Tom Hiddleston, Loki

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU for short) already know that Loki ( Tom Hiddleston ) is a master trickster. He is literally the god of mischief, and for years his role in these movies was relegated to villain, nuisance, and foil to his brother Thor (Chris Hemsworth), but with Loki , he races through time and space in a series that puts him at the forefront of his own story. The series is a crime thriller that follows an alternate version of Loki who stole the Tesseract in  Avengers: Endgame , an event that basically broke reality. And, as these things go, it's now his responsibility to fix what he started. He's recruited by  Owen Wilson 's Mobius M. Mobius at the mysterious Time Variance Authority (TVA) to travel through history and correct the timeline he messed up. The series is the closest thing to putting an actual comic book on screen, full of madcap twists and turns, and seemingly self-contained, without having to place so much emphasis on setting up for future MCU installments. - Allison Picurro   [Watch on  Disney+ ]

Jodie Whittaker, Doctor Who

Jodie Whittaker, Doctor Who

This one is a gimme, but we'd be remiss if we didn't mention Doctor Who , and honestly, if you haven't watched this long-running British sci-fi series already, we're not sure you can even call yourself a fan of time travel. Doctor Who follows a centuries-old alien known as the Doctor who has the ability to regenerate and take on different faces (hence the "long-running" bit). The Doctor, currently portrayed by Jodie Whittaker , takes unsuspecting ladies (and a few dudes) on ridiculous trips through time and space. Yep, this one checks the space travel box too! If you do choose to watch Doctor Who though, be warned -- you will end up in a fight with someone on Tumblr about which Doctor is the best. It's unavoidable.  [Watch on   HBO Max ]

Eric McCormack, MacKenzie Porter, Nesta Cooper, Jared Abrahamson, and Reilly Dolman, Travelers

Eric McCormack, MacKenzie Porter, Nesta Cooper, Jared Abrahamson, and Reilly Dolman, Travelers

Netflix's   Travelers , initially a co-production with Canada's Showcase, doesn't get even half the recognition it deserves for constructing impossibly complex time travel mythology that is still understandable and engaging for its audience, so we're recognizing it by putting it on this list. In the series, squads of elite soldiers travel to the present from hundreds of years in the future in order to change history and save the human race. If that doesn't sound cool enough, let us just add that they do so by sending their consciousnesses into the bodies of people about to die and assuming their identities. So. Freaking. Cool.  [Watch on  Netflix ]

Aaron Stanford and Amanda Schull, 12 Monkeys

Aaron Stanford and Amanda Schull, 12 Monkeys

Based on the 1995 movie with the same name, 12 Monkeys follows a time traveler who travels from 2043 to 2015 to stop a deadly virus from wiping out most of the planet's population. However, what starts out as a simple mission to the past turns into a mind-boggling journey through some of the biggest historical events of the 20th century and a pretty epic love story. This series really digs into the rules of time travel like causation and paradoxes, so while it may give you one of the aforementioned headaches, it's seriously worth it.  [Watch on  Hulu ]

DC's Legends of Tomorrow

Caity Lotz, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swan, Dominic Purcell and Nick Zano, DC Legends of Tomorrow

Caity Lotz, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swan, Dominic Purcell and Nick Zano, DC Legends of Tomorrow

In a sea of series that focus on saving the world with time travel, DC's Legends of Tomorrow easily could have gotten lost in the shuffle. Luckily, this CW series quickly established itself as one part nonsense, two parts pure fun, which set it apart from all the rest. If you're looking for a lighter series to help you while the days away, this one is definitely for you. The Legends team does end up saving the world quite a few times, but most of the time they just wind up turning themselves into singing puppets or fighting giant stuffed animals.  [Watch on  Netflix ]

Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, Outlander

If you're looking for something a little more romantic to binge-watch, Outlander is your ticket. This series follows Claire Beauchamp ( Caitriona Balfe ), an English WWII nurse who accidentally travels from 1945 back to 1743 while on a trip to Scotland with her husband ( Tobias Menzies ). Thrown into the past and desperate to get home, Claire finds herself embroiled in a Scottish uprising while slowly but surely falling in love with a ruggedly handsome redhead named Jamie Fraser ( Sam Heughan ).  [Watch on   Netflix ,  Starz ,  Hulu with Starz add-on ,  Amazon Prime with Starz add-on ]

Abigail Spencer, Malcolm Barrett, Matt Lanter; Timeless

Abigail Spencer, Malcolm Barrett, Matt Lanter; Timeless

Though Timeless was canceled twice , its devoted fanbase, known as Clockblockers, were so passionate that the NBC series ended up getting a two-hour series finale to wrap things up, so you won't have to worry about a cliffhanger ending. The show follows a history professor ( Abigail Spencer ), a soldier ( Matt Lanter ), and an engineer ( Malcolm Barrett ) who use a government-created time machine to track down a mysterious villain who is trying to rewrite American history. This series pairs the whimsy of DC's Legends of Tomorrow with the high stakes of 12 Monkeys , making it the perfect "middle of the road" option for time travel fans.  [Watch on  Hulu ]

Terra Nova

Though it was canceled after just one season, we're still including Terra Nova on this list because DINOSAURS. Set in a dying world where overpopulation has humans on the brink of extinction, scientists have found a way to send people back in time to the Cretaceous Period where the air is breathable, food is plentiful, and the human race can start over. Unfortunately, it's also where dinosaurs are hungry for human flesh, so that's a problem. This show wasn't executed very well (hence its cancellation), but it's worth a watch anyway just to see hot people running away from raptors.  [Watch on  Amazon ]

Lost in Austen

Jemima Rooper, Elliot Cowan, Alex Kingston, Morvne Christie, and Hugh Bonneville, Lost in Austen

Jemima Rooper, Elliot Cowan, Alex Kingston, Gemma Arterton, and Hugh Bonneville, Lost in Austen

When you're ready to take a break from all the action and adventure, Lost in Austen is a great time travel alternative. Rather than traveling through time per se, lead character Amanda Price ( Jemima Rooper ) travels into the world of her favorite novel, Pride & Prejudice . Caught up in the Georgian Era -- and the fictional lives of Mr. Darcy ( Elliot Cowan ) and the Bennet family -- Amanda unwittingly ends up as a character in the story she loves so dearly, and falling in love with Darcy herself.  [Watch on  BritBox ]

Dark

The critically acclaimed Netflix series  Dark  is not only a complicated time travel drama, it's also a German series, so get ready to turn those subtitles on! The series, which just wrapped up its third and final season, follows multiple generations of four interconnected families living in the German town of Winden (once you've finished the show, our family tree will help explain how everyone is connected ), which just so happens to be home to an underground tunnel and wormhole. Time travel and family drama make for an extremely complicated series (we don't recommend just having this one on in the background, folks), but once you get into it, you'll never look back.  [Watch on  Netflix ]

Few performers have had the kind of success that Jonah Hill has found at such a young age. He's been a comedy star since he was basically a teenager, and he has also found success as a more dramatic actor in recent years. That combination of work means that Hill has a pretty extensive catalog of great movies to choose from, and they run the gamut from out-and-out comedies to much subtler, more dramatic work.

Whatever version of Hill you like best, it's hard to imagine you wouldn't like at least one of the films on this list of the best Jonah Hill movies.

Since he first emerged as a major heartthrob in the 1990s, Leonardo DiCaprio has consistently been one of the biggest movie stars in the world. Thanks to his collaborations with some of the best directors in the world and his insistence on choosing only the roles that he cares most about, Leo has established the kind of career that few modern Hollywood stars can match; he's been in everything from great action movies to outright comedies.

These are the films that most define Leo's career and the ones that any new fan of the actor should check out first. Here are the best Leonardo Dicaprio movies.

Although it's now only one big player in an even bigger streaming market, Netflix still manages to crank out plenty of stuff to keep its users subscribing. That glut of good movies on Netflix is great if all you want is to never get bored, but it can make it difficult to figure out which things are actually worth your time, and which aren't. If that's your goal, we've got you covered. This list is a combination of great Netflix original movies, and good movies to watch that Netflix is currently housing on its service, and it even includes a few great Netflix action movies. What unites these movies, though, is that they are the very best Netflix movies currently available. If you're looking for films to watch on some of Netflix's competitors, we've also found the best Amazon Prime movies, the best Hulu movies, and the best Disney Plus movies. You can also check out some new Netflix movies at the bottom of this post.

The Best Travel Documentaries on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon to Stream Right Now

travel documentaries netflix

Whether due to winter weather, pandemic lockdowns, or lack of money in a slumping economy, those of us who love to travel have spent much of the past few years reading about it and watching shows about it instead.

So let’s make the best of the situation and watch some great travel documentaries!

This collection of documentary shows, available on all the major streaming outlets, includes classics from respected names like Anthony Bourdain and Rick Steves, plus serious examinations of life in difficult places around the world, plus some comedic relief from the likes of Conan O’Brien.

Read on for my list of the top travel documentaries on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and other services that you can stream on your laptop or phone at this time.

NOTE: If you enjoy the drama and craziness of reality television more than documentaries, check out our list of the Top Travel Reality Shows to Stream . And if you’re stuck in the ’90s and still prefer DVDs, take a road trip to Bend, Oregon to visit the last Blockbuster Video in the world !

Best Travel Documentaries on to Stream Right Now on Netflix and Hulu

Shows are constantly changing streaming platforms, so by the time you read this, some of these travel documentaries may have migrated to a new network. They are still worth tracking down!

Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations / Parts Unknown

There are exactly one million food & travel documentaries in existence (I counted), but few will able to compete with Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. For several years, the Emmy-winning series followed the celebrity chef as he toured the globe and tried the world’s most exotic foods.

Why not binge all 142 episodes? Come on, what else have you got to do? Watch Anthony taste feral pigeon in Egypt, deer tendon in China, and even a still-beating cobra heart in Vietnam.

Though I love the show, I still disagree with his assertion that Iceland’s fermented shark is the worst food on the planet.

Once you finish No Reservations, move on to Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown, which is more of a straightforward travel show without the culinary focus. Currently streaming on: Hulu & TravelChannel.com (No Reservations); YouTube & Amazon Prime (Parts Unknown)

Basic vs Baller

Here’s a cool premise for a travel show: Two brothers arrive in a city and challenge each other in a quick trivia contest.

The winner gets to be a baller, meaning they get a massive budget (think $1000/day) to live a life of luxury, visiting expensive restaurants and attractions. The loser has to travel around on a small, basic budget (less than $100/day.)

In the Hong Kong episode, the baller sips champagne from an infinity pool in his private penthouse, while the basic dude eats cheap food, wanders a public market, and sleeps in a funky hostel dorm bed. Almost inevitably, basic dude has a cooler experience. Currently streaming on: Hulu, YouTube

When it comes to wildlife, scenery, and the general beauty of our planet, the BBC nature documentary series Our Planet is second to none.

Legendary narrator David Attenborough takes viewers to African deserts, tropical rainforests, and the frozen habitat of the polar bears to give us a glimpse into animal life as we’ve never seen it before.

Unlike many nature documentaries, this one has a larger purpose, as it specifically focuses on climate change. It repeatedly notes how humans and the wildlife of our planet will be affected if people worldwide do not make changes to address this problem. Currently streaming on: Netflix

Conan Without Borders

Conan O’Brien has been known for his unique brand of goofball humor since the ‘90s, but over the past few years he’s quietly put together one of the best travel shows around.

It started in 2015 when he became the first U.S. talk show host to film in Cuba in 55 years, putting together an hour-long special full of segments that showcased the island nation’s culture and history.

Since then, Conan has brought his quirky charm to Mexico, Haiti, South Korea, Israel, and Italy, filming segments in which he jokes with local citizens and tour guides while trying to learn about their country.

Make sure to seek out the four most recent episodes of Conan Without Borders – Japan, Australia, Ghana, and Greenland – which are only available for streaming on TBS.com. Currently streaming on: Netflix, Amazon Prime, TBS.com

Tales By Light

One of the best ways to experience cultures from around the world while sitting in your living room is the new-ish Netflix series Tales By Light.

The show documents filmmakers and photographers as they highlight a particular area of interest: for instance, indigenous people who still live by their traditional customs, and Indian photographers who scrape together a living by selling family members photos of their relatives taken during funerals.

The two-part episode “Children in Need,” which focuses on young children working in horrible conditions in third-world countries, is especially compelling. The story isn’t necessarily uplifting, but it’s incredibly insightful. Currently streaming on: Netflix

Figure it Out on the Hayduke Trail

Most American hikers have heard of the Appalachian Trail in the east and the Pacific Crest Trail in the west, but lengthy routes such as the Hayduke Trail are often overlooked.

The Hayduke is a challenging, 812-mile backpacking trail that passes through six national parks in Utah and Arizona, including the Grand Canyon , Arches, and Zion.

What makes the Hayduke fascinating is that it’s so lightly traveled. You can walk for hours and not see another hiker. This documentary follows a solo hiker (Alex Meier) and the people he meets over the days and weeks it takes to completes the trek. Enjoy his personal journey and incredible mountain and desert scenery he captures.

Amazon Prime has both the 90-minute documentary film, and the complete original series featuring all 10 individual episodes (around 4 hours total.) Currently streaming on: Amazon Prime

Rick Steves’ Europe

If you’re a regular traveler to Europe, surely you’re familiar with Rick Steves’ PBS documentary series, which has been documenting the continent’s most interesting spots for ten seasons now. He has covered just about every inch of Europe, from the Alps of Switzerland to the islands of Greece to the heartland of Portugal.

Follow along with Rick and reminisce about the days when it was still possible to dine outdoors in Vienna, cruise the Danube River, and explore the Amalfi Coast of Italy. Currently streaming on: Hulu, RickSteves.com

Dark Tourist

On Dark Tourist, a New Zealand journalist investigates the topic of dark tourism, which deals with morbid and death-related sites. These sorts of tourist attractions are quite popular nowadays.

David Farrier tours the Milwaukee locations of Jeffrey Dahmer’s murders, the site of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, the former testing site for nuclear weapons in the Soviet Union, and the location of the Manson Family murders in Los Angeles.

He also attends ceremonies related to death and the afterworld. This sort of show isn’t for everyone, but the program does attempt to explain why folks are interested in these kinds of tours and ceremonies. Currently streaming on: Netflix

Black Travel Across America

This new show on Hulu follows host Martinique Lewis as she visits places in the U.S. that have historical importance to the Black community.

Many of the places features on the show were featured in the famous Green Book, a Jim Crow-era guide of businesses that were friendly to Black folks.

The National Geographic network show follows Lewis as she connects with residents in Harlem, Brooklyn, Denver, the 18th & Vine District in Kansas City, and many other places with cultural significance. Currently streaming on: Hulu

Gaycation produced just eight episodes during its 2016 run, but they earned two Emmy nominations for their snapshots of LGBT life in countries like Japan, India, and France.

Elliott Page and their friend Ian Daniel hosted the show and immersed themselves in their destinations, interviewing local residents, many of whom had to hide their identity since being open about their orientation is still unsafe in many parts of the world.

Among the most moving and informative episodes were Page and Daniel’s visits to Ukraine, Jamaica, and Brazil, three of most dangerous countries for LGBT people right now. Currently streaming on: Hulu

Meet the Chimps

A few years back, I had a chance to visit the National Chimpanzee Sanctuary , aka Chimp Haven, located near Shreveport, Louisiana .

This facility houses diseased and neglected chimpanzees and gives them a second chance at life, living in a peaceful setting with dozens of their fellow chimps.

chimpanzee sanctuary

National Geographic recently created a Disney+ documentary filmed at this sanctuary. Titled Meet the Chimps, the six-part series is narrated by Jane Lynch and provides a look into the personalities of the animals and their personal relationships with each other. Currently streaming on: Disney+

Magical Andes

The six-episode doc series Magical Andes (Los Andes Magicos) focuses on the people and history of the Andes Mountains in South America. The show boasts beautifully-shot footage of the scenery of these countries.

I took special interest in episode 4, which reveals the highlights of Peru, including Machu Picchu, Puno, and Lake Titicaca – aka, the places that I was supposed to visit a couple years ago, before everyone had to stay home indefinitely. Currently streaming on: Netflix

Pedal the World

Another of the best travel documentaries on Netflix is Pedal the World. This film follows a German guy as he bikes more than 11,000 miles through 22 countries in one year. He passes through Greece, Serbia, Turkey, Thailand, and many more.

There isn’t really much of a narrative arc or an overarching theme, but if you want to see follow one person’s challenging journey as he bikes past some famous landmarks mixed and rural areas of countries you’ve never visited, it’s worth a viewing. Currently streaming on: Netflix

Can you suggest other great travel documentaries on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime?

The Sci-Fi Time Travel Series Everyone Is Binging On Hulu

Josh Hutchinson in Future Man

Time travel is one of the most popular storytelling devices in the modern age of filmmaking. Back to the Future , Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure , Avengers: Endgame, and even a little movie called Looper  all found enormous success over the years, by shifting protagonists backwards or forwards in time. But in some cases, it's not the hero who travels in time, but someone else: for instance, Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) didn't travel to the future in The Terminator , but instead, the future came to her — in the form of an Arnold Scharzenegger-shaped robot meant to kill her.

There's a similar narrative thread running through a certain  Seth Rogen -produced show on Hulu — which is right now gaining a lot of eyes — and that's  Future Man . The series combines elements of The Terminator with another, lesser known eighties classic,  The Last Starfighter,  crafting a story that involves a gamer whose high score qualifies him to become a fighter pilot in an intergalactic future war.

Yes, you read that right: In Future Man,  that gamer — Josh Futterman, played by Josh Hutcherson, from The Hunger Games –  beats the seemingly unbeatable game Biotic Wars, only to discover that the game is based on a very real, dystopian future that he must now save in real life.

A cast worth traveling in time (with terrible results) for

Future Man has a pretty great pedigree behind it. In addition to Seth Rogen executive producing and guest starring, as well as Josh Hutcherson leading, there is a ton of fantastic talent involved. Most notably, the first season surrounds the poor life choices of a scientist named Doctor Elias Kronish, played by none other than legendary sci-fi and voice actor Keith David ( They Live , Gargoyles ). Meanwhile, the actors playing Josh's parents are none other than Ed Begley Jr. ( The Accidental Tourist, Best in Show ) and the late, great Glenne Headly (who famously out hustles the hustlers in the Frank Oz classic Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) .

Without giving too much of the story away, Future Man cribs from more than just The Terminator and The Last Starfighter . Very notably, it also borrows from Back to the Future, what with our heroes traveling backwards in time, even making some direct references to the Michael J. Fox classic. Of course, in this case, they attempt to repair a mistake which will inevitably cause the end of the world with hilarious (and terrible) results.

Future Man  wrapped up its run of three seasons on Hulu in 2020. It is a half-hour comedy, making it very easy to binge-watch. So if you're looking for the sort of time hijinks story Seth Rogen would make, well, Future Man is probably the show for you.

An awards darling, having scooped up multiple Primetime Emmys and Golden Globes, The Bear has many triumphant factors in the recipe for its success, not least of which is Jeremy Allen White’s captivating lead performance. Managing to find a nuanced balance between heartbreaking and frustrating, the actor has rightfully earned himself both public and critical acclaim for his astonishing performance. Beyond Allen White, though, the show is a gorgeously written story that captures the familial bond at its heart, with the dysfunctional relationship between almost all of its main cast gutwrenchingly relatable. Like fine dining, The Bear is a show to be savored. - Jake Hodges

'Skins' (2007 - 2013)

Imdb: 8.2/10.

Release Date January 25, 2007

Cast Nicholas Hoult, Kaya Scodelario, Jack O'Connell, Hannah Murray, Dev Patel

This groundbreaking British teen comedy follows the lives of a group of unadulterated friends, each feeling disenfranchised by the world around them as they attempt to find love and happiness in a broken Britain. With plenty of questionable parents and teachers giving often unsavory advice, it is up to the teens to find their own paths — even if those paths are full of partying and alcohol. It wouldn’t be an understatement to say that Skins brought about a revolution upon first airing in the UK. Changing culture via dress sense and attitude, the show would break boundaries and showcase the realities of growing up as a frustrated, anxious teenager in Britain. A winner of two BAFTAs, there has been no series before or after Skins that has quite managed to capture its essence, making this a wonderfully astute pick-up for Hulu’s catalog. - Jake Hodges

Originally titled The Sterling Affairs , Clipped is both an entertaining sports series and an introspective look at one of the NBA’s most infamous men. O’Neill is brilliant as Sterling, managing to capture all of his many often conflicting character traits, but it is Laurence Fishburne who steals the show as coach Doc Rivers. Fast and furious, Clipped is full of power. - Jake Hodges

Queenie (2024).

Release Date June 7, 2024

Cast Tilly Keeper, Harrison Daniels, Melissa John, Bellah, Samuel Adewunmi, Dionne Brown

Genres Drama

A series with its finger firmly on the pulse of modern-day London, Queenie is actually based on Carty-Williams' own 2019 new adult novel of the same name, which received enormous critical and public praise. Politically and socially aware, as well as brimming with biting current humor that makes last week’s releases already look out of date, Queenie is both an entertaining watch and a beacon of representation for the young Black women of London who don’t feel like they fit. - Jake Hodges

'Will & Grace' (1998 - 2020)

Rotten tomatoes: 74% | imdb: 7.4/10, will & grace.

Release Date September 21, 1998

Creator David Kohan, Mark Mutchnick

Cast Sean Hayes, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally, Eric McCormack

One of the longest-running and most fondly-appreciated sitcoms of all time, Will & Grace stars Eric McCormack as lawyer Will and Debra Messing as interior designer Grace. Together with their best friends, the group deals with the highs, lows, and in-betweens of modern life in New York City. Of course, Will & Grace , at its heart, is a laugh-a-minute comedy searching every second for the next gag. However, the show was also a major turning point for LGBTQIA+ representation in modern sitcoms, with many looking back now at some of the series to have been released since and realizing just how honest and self-aware about queer representation the show actually was. Funny and poignant, Will & Grace is a must-have addition to a sitcom fan’s watchlist. - Jake Hodges

'The Rookie' (2018 - Present)

Rotten tomatoes: 68% | imdb: 8.0/10.

Release Date October 16, 2018

Cast Eric Winter, Mekia Cox, Shawn Ashmore, Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones

Genres Drama, Action, Crime

Created by Alexi Hawley , ABC’s The Rookie is a police procedural series starring Nathan Filion as John Nolan, who becomes the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department at 45. Partly based on a true story, the drama series also features Alyssa Diaz , Richard T. Jones , Titus Makin Jr ., and more. Largely buoyed by Fillion’s delightful performance, the series has become a television favorite since its premiere in 2019, with its sixth season currently underway and a seventh on the horizon. An entertaining series that you can watch with the whole family, The Rookie is a great cop show where the cases may not be all that interesting, but the characters surely are. The series has received largely favorable reviews from critics, with praise for its humor, action, and drama. Though the quality varies a bit between seasons, the show’s talented cast and the well-crafted interpersonal narratives make it a consistently engaging watch.

'The Veil' (2024)

Rotten tomatoes: 46% | imdb: 6.4/10, the veil (2024).

Release Date May 7, 2024

Cast Karol Steele, Thibault de Montalembert, Yumna Marwan, James Purefoy, Elisabeth Moss, Alec Secareanu, Dali Benssalah, Josh Charles

Genres Thriller

Written by Steven Knight and starring Elisabeth Moss and Yumna Marwan , The Veil is a thriller limited series following two women as they travel from Istanbul to Paris and London, with one of them hiding a dangerous secret that the other seeks to uncover. The series also stars Dali Benssalah , Josh Charles , and Thibault de Montalembert . While the series has received rather mixed reviews, The Veil is elevated by the performances of its two leads. Elisabeth Moss delivers yet another gripping performance as a veteran MI6 agent, and Yumna Marwan equals and, at times, exceeds Moss for dramatic chops in this intriguing thriller. Though it might not be a great spy story (it has been unfavorably compared to Homeland ), The Veil is best when seen as a character drama exploring two nuanced and layered characters through a timely narrative.

'Homeland' (2011 - 2020)

Rotten tomatoes: 85% | imdb: 8.3/10.

Release Date October 2, 2011

Cast Costa Ronin, Maury Sterling, Numan Acar, Linus Roache, Mandy Patinkin, Claire Danes

Genres Thriller, Action, Crime, War

When Marine Corps Scout Sniper and prisoner of war Nicholas Brody ( Damian Lewis ) is released by al-Qaeda after eight years in captivity, CIA officer Carrie Mathison ( Claire Danes ) becomes convinced that Brody has been “turned” by the enemy. That’s the premise of Homeland , a spy thriller series developed by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa , which is based on the Israeli show Prisoners of War . Over the course of its eight seasons on the air, Homeland received largely positive reviews, with Seasons 1 and 2, in particular, hailed as the best of the lot. Danes and Lewis received great praise from critics for their layered performances, with Danes winning two Emmys for her role and Lewis winning one. However, the show isn’t without its flaws, and it has been criticized for its almost stereotypically negative portrayal of Muslims and the Middle East. It’s important to remember that Homeland is very much a work of fiction and should not be considered an accurate representation of reality. That said, it is a fun watch for fans of the spy thriller genre.

'Brothers & Sisters' (2006 - 2011)

Rotten tomatoes: 87% | imdb: 7.5/10, brothers & sisters.

Cast Gilles Marini, Patricia Wettig, Sally Field, Calista Flockhart, Ron Rifkin, Rachel Griffiths, Matthew Rhys

The series aired for five seasons on ABC between 2006 and 2011, featuring an ensemble cast led by Sally Field as Nora Walker. The show’s cast also includes the likes of Rachel Griffiths , Calista Flockhart , Matthew Rhys , and Emily VanCamp . A hugely popular show during its time on the air, Brothers & Sisters amassed a large fan following over the course of its five seasons. Though originally panned by critics, the show proved to be quite popular with audiences. Over time, it received plenty of accolades as well, earning Sally Field a Primetime Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Field’s Nora is the heart of the show, which is carried by the performances of its talented cast. The series is a great double-feature with Desperate Housewives (also available on Hulu), and in fact, the two shows aired back to back on ABC during their original television runs.

'Under the Bridge' (2024 - Present)

Rotten tomatoes: 100%, under the bridge (2024).

Release Date April 17, 2024

A true crime drama that recounts the brutal murder of Canadian teenager Reena Virk and the incidents that led to her death, Under the Bridge is based on the late Rebecca Godfrey ’s eponymous non-fiction book. The series stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in lead roles alongside Archie Panjabi , Javon Walton , Izzy G. , and Vritika Gupta . The recent boom in true crime productions has created a wide range of shows and movies, some thoughtful and necessary and others purely sensationalistic. Under the Bridge seems like it fits in the former category, exploring a brutal and tragic crime from the 1990s. The case of Reena Virk, while much talked about in its time, has now become largely forgotten by the general public. The show seeks to change that, shining some much-needed light on this heartbreaking real-life story. With a gripping narrative and a remarkable cast and crew, this true crime series is simply a must-watch.

The show has earned several accolades, including three NAACP Image Awards for Angela Bassett in the Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series category. While Seasons 1-6 have been quite engaging, the currently ongoing Season 7 may be the show’s best yet, exploring a more interconnected plot that delivers greater character development. And despite having been around for so long, the show still finds a way to remain relevant and engaging as time passes. 'Catch 22' (2019)

Rotten tomatoes: 84% | imdb: 7.7/10, catch-22 (2019).

Release Date May 17, 2019

Creator Luke Davies, David Michd, Joseph Heller

Cast Graham Patrick Martin, Kevin J. O'Connor, Rafi Gavron, Jay Paulson, Tessa Ferrer, Christopher Abbott, Grant Heslov, Kyle Chandler

Genres Drama, Comedy, Action

Read Our Review

Based on the 1961 novel of the same name by Joseph Heller , Catch-22 is a dark comedy miniseries that is set during World War II and follows bombardier John Yossarian ( Christopher Abbott ), who is enraged by the dozens of assassination attempts on his life and the mounting missions his own army assigns him. He is stuck by the bureaucratic Catch-22 rule, which states that any request to be relieved of duty due to fear of mission danger must be denied since it is deemed to be the act of a reasonable mind.

The tone shifts between horror and humor are handled and performed with gusto in Catch-22 , just like in the novel that serves as the inspiration. Additionally, George Clooney makes an outstanding comeback to the role of storyteller in this production, tapping into both sides of his directorial oeuvre. Hugh Laurie , Kyle Chandler , and Grant Heslov are among the many talented members of the ensemble who assist in ensuring a fantastic show. Moreover, in contrast to the darkly comedic chaos surrounding him, Abbott's Yo-Yo is grounded and understated, which pays off beautifully when the character spirals into true madness. - Jessie Nguyen

New on Hulu in July 2024: Top picks

'futurama' season 12.

Futurama | First Look Season 12 | Hulu - YouTube

Last year saw "Futurama's" unexpected return from its 10-year hiatus, and this month the Planet Express crew is back for even more new episodes with the premiere of season 12. The highly anticipated season 11 quickly became one of the streamer's most popular titles, with fans and critics alike commending Hulu's back-to-basics approach for the revival.

With season 11, the streamer brought back the sharp wit and humor that made the original episodes so beloved while folding in much-needed updates to some characters and relationships, which viewers have greatly appreciated judging by its 86% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes . While we don't know much about where the story will go in season 12, many of the beloved cast are set to return including Katey Sagal's Leela, Lauren Tom's Amy Wong, and, of course, John DiMaggio as the irreverent, beer-guzzling robot Bender.

Premieres July 29 on Hulu

'Mastermind: To Think Like a Killer'

Mastermind: To Think Like a Killer | Official Trailer | Hulu - YouTube

From executive producers Dakota and Elle Fanning comes the new docuseries "Mastermind: To Think Like a Killer," a gripping deep-dive into one female FBI agent whose innovations changed crime-fighting as we know it.

Dr. Ann Burgess, who, at one time, was the only woman working in the FBI, learned to think like a serial killer through her illustrious career investigating the most heinous murder cases in the '70s, '80s and '90s. As part of her research, Burgess would interview infamous serial killers like Ted Bundy, Montie Rissell and Ed Kemper to peel back the layers of their damaged psyche and see what patterns could be gleaned for future cases. Her work went far beyond the FBI, though, as she shone a spotlight on the plight of women in America.

Premieres July 11 on Hulu

'Sonic the Hedgehog 2' (2022)

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) -

The first "Sonic the Hedgehog" was an unexpected delight, bucking the trend that most video game adaptations are absolute trainwrecks. And the sequel proves every bit as fun, seeing the Blue Blur (voiced by Ben Schwartz) face off against the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) once more—this time with a few friends by his side that fans will recognize.

As in the first film, Carrey steals every scene he's in, but Idris Elba is equally hilarious as the dim-witted yet formidable echidna Knuckles, who becomes a pawn in Dr. Robotnik's revenge scheme. Sonic's new best friend Tails (voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessey) rounds out the cast and adds a touch of heart to the story. I really enjoyed "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" when I saw it in theaters, and I wholeheartedly recommend it if you're in the mood for a fun, light-hearted watch.

Premieres July 1 on Hulu

'Get Out' (2017)

Get Out Official Trailer 1 (2017) - Daniel Kaluuya Movie - YouTube

I'm not exaggerating when I say Jordan Peele changed the horror landscape forever with his 2017 debut film "Get Out." This film masterfully blends the slow-build psychological tension of horror classics like "The Shining" and Rosemary’s Baby" with biting social commentary on racism, the pitfalls of neoliberalism and the portrayal of Black characters in horror movies.

Daniel Kaluuya stars as Chris Washington, a young Black photographer whose white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) invites him on a trip to visit her family's estate. But what begins as a typical weekend getaway soon turns into a nightmare as Chris uncovers disturbing secrets about Rose's family and their attitudes towards race. Without revealing too much, "Get Out" is a gripping and thought-provoking film that should be on everyone's must-watch list, whether you're a horror fan or not.

The 17 best true crime shows on Hulu to watch now

The streamer carries dramatized series and documentary content.

Disney; Courtesy Hulu; Andrew Eccles/ A+E Network

Though Hulu provides plenty of series to help you escape life's mundanity, some stories are plucked from the darkest corners of reality. Whether you're into the lighthearted investigations of Buzzfeed Unsolved , the hard-hitting exposés of Underworld, Inc. , or dramatized retellings of real-life tales like Under the Bridge , we've curated a lineup that's bound to satisfy whatever type of sleuth is living inside of you.

Read below for EW’s list of the best true crime shows on Hulu right now.

The Act (2019)

You're likely familiar with the name Gypsy Rose , the notorious ex-convict who has consistently made headlines ever since her early release from prison in December 2023. Spanning eight episodes, The Act recounts the events leading up to the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard ( Patricia Arquette ), in 2015, a case intertwined with allegations of abuse and factitious disorder. While the series captures the suffocating atmosphere Gypsy endured under her mother's care — who made her daughter believe she had cancer, among other illnesses and disabilities — what stands out are the performances by Arquette (who won a Golden Globe for the role) and Joey King , who told EW , “Transforming into Gypsy was one of the most challenging but most rewarding things I’ve ever done." — James Mercadante

Season 1 (by far the best installment) centers on the O.J. Simpson murder trial — lauded by EW's critic as "a meticulously crafted, powerfully resonant docudrama that crackles with timely issues — while season 2 covers the 1997 murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace , and season 3 shifts focus to the late-'90s presidential sex scandal involving Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky . — J.M.

Garnering multiple Primetime Emmy nominations, Cold Case Files aired its first run from 1999 to 2002, with A&E briefly reviving the docuseries in 2006, 2017, and 2021 (with new episodes continuing to air on Hulu). — Kevin Jacobsen

Daughters of the Cult (2024)

Ervil LeBaron, also known as the "Mormon Manson," sowed tremendous discord while leading the polygamist Church of the First Born Lamb of God. However, ABC News Studios' Daughters Daughters of the Cult shifts focus to those most deeply affected: his children (of which he had more than 50). Directed by Sarah Mast, the five-episode docuseries exposes the inner workings of the religious sect, where members carried out mass murders at the behest of their fanatical prophet to target rivals and even LeBaron's own kin. Suffering horrors throughout most of their upbringing, the surviving daughters now step forward to share their experiences with their father and find solace in their sisterhood as they recover. —J.M.

The First 48 (2004–present)

In the aftermath of a murder, the initial 48 hours hold the key to unlocking vital evidence before it fades into oblivion and potentially allows a perpetrator to slip through the cracks. For two decades, this edifying A&E docuseries has been lifting the veil of investigative work during that critical time frame. Across various cities and crime scenes, each episode follows seasoned and greenhorn sleuths as they spend the first two days post-homicide deploying a myriad of forensic tactics, witness interrogations, and other innovative methodologies to reveal the faces behind the acts.  —J.M.

The Most Dangerous Animal of All chronicles Stewart's quest for answers about his biological parents. After reconnecting with the mother who was forced to give him up at birth, Stewart relentlessly begins searching for his dad, a man he only knows by name, Earl Van Best Jr. However, it isn’t long before Stewart’s research leads him to a deeply unsettling theory: Could his father have been the Zodiac Killer? — K.M.

The Murder of Laci Peterson (2017)

Hulu/ A+E Network8BIM

Months after Laci Peterson and her unborn child were tragically found dead in the San Francisco Bay, her husband Scott ultimately faced a murder conviction and a death sentence, despite the absence of forensic evidence or eyewitnesses. Timed with the 15th anniversary of Laci's disappearance on Christmas Eve 2002, A&E's six-part docuseries reopens the case's dossier, challenging the demonized portrayal of Scott and presenting interviews with him while behind bars, as well as with his family members and various legal experts. The Murder of Laci Peterson nudges viewers to reevaluate the veracity of media narratives and draw their own conclusions. —J.M.

Never Let Him Go (2023)

In December 1988, the lifeless body of Scott Johnson — a gay mathematician from Southern California — was found beneath a cliff in Sydney, Australia. Initially deemed a suicide, Scott's older brother Steve adamantly rejected this verdict and spent the next three decades seeking the truth. Over the course of four episodes, Never Let Him Go bypasses the predictable rhythm of the true crime genre, with its nuanced storytelling being both unbiased and politically poignant. The series explores many multifaceted issues, including Sydney's historical negligence towards anti-gay violence, the warped effects of grief, disparities in wealth and justice, and the toxic dynamics between Australians and Americans. —J.M.

The Secrets of Hillsong (2023)

Remember when Justin Bieber was baptized in the bathtub of the New York Knicks' Tyson Chandler ? Well, the orchestrator behind this ceremony was none other than Carl Lentz, the skinny-jean-wearing "hipster" pastor who spent a decade serving as the figurehead of Hillsong Church. Despite its global influence from its Coldplay -lite worship tunes (and its star-studded congregation including Vanessa Hudgens , Kevin Durant , Nick Jonas , and more), the megachurch faced nasty backlash in 2021 when Vanity Fair journalists Alex French and Dan Adler unearthed its storied history of misconduct. FX's four-part docuseries traces the peak and decline of Hillsong — incorporating candid interviews with Carl and his wife Laura while cautioning against the pitfalls of organized religion: financial exploitation, the ostentatious display of faith, and allegations of sexual abuse. — J.M.

Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence (2023)

When Larry Ray (who's now serving a 60-year prison sentence ) crashed at his daughter's dorm at Sarah Lawrence College in 2010, he leveraged his father-figure guise to convince several students to relocate to his Upper East Side sublet, subjecting them to years of isolation, deprivation, abuse, and psychological torment. Described by EW's critic as "a particularly tough watch," this four-part docuseries unveils the unspeakable events within that apartment — thanks to Ray's compulsive recordings for potential blackmail — while also interviewing the former members (and those still under Ray’s influence) as they attempt to reclaim the lost years of their youth and reconstruct their fragmented lives. —J.M.

Based on Jon Krakauer's novel of the same name , Under the Banner of Heaven is a raw, gritty look into the world of fundamentalist Mormonism and the power of cults, all through Pyre's eyes. Director Dustin Lance Black told EW : "I hope that like the book, some mainstream Mormons might [watch the show]. They might not talk about it in church, but I hope that if they watch the show, they will be illuminated, and there will be some relief to be had in knowing." —K.M.

Under the Bridge (2024)

In the Hulu miniseries adaptation of Rebecca Godfrey's Under the Bridge — which she penned from the perspectives of the adolescents and investigators involved — the late author becomes a central piece of the story. Portrayed by Riley Keough , the New York writer revisits her hometown in British Columbia and stumbles upon the perfect lead for her next book: the disappearance of 14-year-old Reena Virk (Vritika Gupta). Jumping between the past and present, the show chronicles Reena's final days alongside the investigation into her murder, spearheaded by Rebecca and her former best friend turned officer, Cam Bentland ( Lily Gladstone ). As noted by EW's critic , "the performances in Under the Bridge are consistently superb," as "Keough plays Rebecca with a kind of dreamy and alluring reserve" while "Gladstone elevates Cam beyond the character’s stern-yet-concerned cop framework." —J.M.

The 20 Best Comedies on Hulu Right Now

Portrait of Brian Tallerico

This post is updated frequently as movies leave and enter Hulu. *New additions are indicated with an asterisk.

Everyone needs a good laugh every now and then, probably more than ever in the 2020s. Hulu’s catalog is packed with television and arthouse critical darlings, so it can be hard to leaf through it when you just want something to take the edge off the day. That’s why we’re here. This regularly updated blend of comedy classics, indie films you may not have seen, and newer laugh generators is all you need when it’s time to escape.

How We Pick Our Films

Critic Brian Tallerico watches and writes about movies and TV every day. To curate this list, he dives into Hulu’s comedy catalogue every month to surface laugh-out-loud funny titles — using his taste and a lifetime of cinema study as his guide, instead of whatever the algorithm happens to be pushing. After triple-checking to make sure they’re still available, he watches each and writes his recommendation. We highlight more than just the crowdpleasers: Comedy can be a venue to present interesting ideas, make an impact on cinema, and change our culture. Read on to find something to watch.

Another Round

Year: 2020 Runtime: 1 hour, 57 minutes Director: Thomas Vinterberg

The Oscar winner for Best International Film in 2021 features one of the best performances ever from the great Mads Mikkelsen. The Hannibal star plays a teacher who decides, with a group of three friends, to be a little drunk all the time . Bored and unmotivated by life, they try an experiment wherein they have a small blood alcohol content at all times. At first, it goes well. It doesn’t end well. Not everything here works but it’s a likable film that features a killer ending.

The Banshees of Inisherin

Year: 2022 Runtime: 1h 54m Director: Martin McDonagh

One of the best films of 2022 and a multiple Oscar nominee last year, this dark comedy is already on streaming services, less than a year after its release. Colin Farrell does career-best work as a hapless Irishman who discovers that his best friend, played by Brendan Gleeson, doesn’t want to talk to him anymore. A film about how neighbors become enemies feels particularly timely in the currently fractured world, and this one is brilliant, funny, and moving.

The Death of Stalin

Year: 2017 Runtime: 1h 47m Director: Armando Iannucci

Armando Iannucci, the creator of Veep and The Thick of It , co-wrote and directed this viciously dark satire about the power struggle that emerged in the wake of the death of Joseph Stalin in 1953. More nervously unsettling than laugh-out-loud funny, Iannucci’s style works well for his incredible cast, including Steve Buscemi, Paddy Considine, Jason Isaacs, Rupert Friend, Michael Palin, and Andrea Riseborough.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Year: 1986 Runtime: 1h 43m Director: John Hughes

One of the most popular comedies of its era turned its title character into a household name. The pitch is so beautifully simple: the most popular kid in high school takes the day off and gets into trouble in Chicago while driving his sister and principal insane. Great physical sequences mix with a very hip ‘80s sensibility to create a classic comedy that could be a hit if it came out today.

Year: 2017 Runtime: 2h Director: Craig Gillespie

Margot Robbie should have won the Oscar for playing Tonya Harding in this tonal highwire act. More than just a biopic or the true crime story of the 1994 attack on Nancy Kerrigan, Gillespie’s film is an interrogation of sports and celebrity culture . Centering it all is Robbie’s performance, one of the most challenging and impressive of the 2010s.

My Cousin Vinny

Year: 1992 Runtime: 1h 59m Director: Jonathan Lynn

Joe Pesci may be the titular character in this hit 1992 comedy, but it’s Marisa Tomei who walked away with it to such a degree that she won an Oscar. After two New Yorkers are tried for a murder that they didn’t commit deep in the heartland, Pesci’s Vinny has to go to the country to get them off. The city vs. country dynamic gets fresh life thanks to the film’s big heart and perfect coming timing of its entire cast.

Palm Springs

Year: 2020 Runtime: 1h 30m Director: Max Barbakow

Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti are wonderful in this charming sci-fi rom-com about a pair of people caught up in a time loop and forced to live the same wedding day they’re attending over and over again. This is the kind of comedy gem that got a little screwed by the pandemic , forced to premiere on Hulu when it should have played to packed, laughing crowds in theaters first.

Poor Things

Year: 2023 Runtime: 2h 21m Director: Yorgos Lanthimos

Emma Stone took home a second Oscar for her fearless portrayal of Bella Baxter in the latest mind-bender from the director of The Lobster and The Favourite . Bella is the Frankenstein-esque creation of a mad scientist (Willem Dafoe), who teaches her the way of the world, until she discovers sex and her own identity. Visually stunning, it’s like nothing else on Hulu. Or anywhere really.

The Royal Tenenbaums

Year: 2001 Runtime: 1h 50m Director: Wes Anderson

One of Wes Anderson’s best films remains this comedy about three gifted siblings who learn that adult life may not be all that they were promised when they were young. Gene Hackman is great as Royal Tenenbaum, the irascible patriarch of the clan, but this is really Anderson’s show, and it contains one of his smartest screenplays, which was nominated for the Oscar.

Year: 1998 Runtime: 1h 33m Director: Wes Anderson

Writer/director Wes Anderson’s best film is arguably still his second work, a brilliant coming-of-age comedy about a teenager named Max Fischer (Jason Schwartzman) and the love triangle that forms (at least in his mind) between him, a teacher named Rosemary Cross (Olivia Williams), and a wealthy man named Herman Blume (Bill Murray). Charming, eccentric, and hysterical, Rushmore is a modern classic.

Year: 2023 Runtime: 1h 22m Director: Raine Allen Miller

The best romantic comedy in years premiered at Sundance in January 2023 and is already on Hulu. David Jonsson and Vivian Oparah star in a film that’s reminiscent of Before Sunrise in the way it captures two people meeting and walking through a city as they slowly fall in love. Heartbroken, creative people, these characters are so incredibly likable in a film that has a sharp, brilliant screenplay, and stunning use of setting. The world around these people comes so vibrantly to life that it almost feels like a character.

Year: 2023 Runtime: 1h 36m Director: Zachary Wigon

Some would call this a thriller instead but it’s really close to being a romantic comedy at the same time. Whatever you call it, just watch it. It’s one of the best films of 2023, a two-hander between a future CEO (Christopher Abbott) and the longtime dominatrix (Margaret Qualley) that he’s trying to fire. Abbott and Qualley do some of the best work of their already notable careers in a film that’s unpredictable, twisted, and, yes, funny.

Year: 2004 Runtime: 2h 7m Director: Alexander Payne

An adaptation of the novel of the same name by Rex Pickett, this comedy is the most successful project of Alexander Payne’s career. One of the reasons for that is the perfect casting of Paul Giamatti as Miles Raymond, a depressed teacher who goes on a wine trip with his buddy Jack (Thomas Haden Church) as they try to find actual happiness. It’s a clever film that’s deeply relatable.

Sleeping With Other People

Year: 2015 Runtime: 1h 41m Director: Leslye Headland

If you love Russian Doll (and really who doesn’t) then you should dig into the history of its creator, Leslye Headland. She wrote and directed this clever 2015 comedy starring Jason Sudeikis, Alison Brie, Adam Scott, Jason Mantzoukas, and, of course, Natasha Lyonne.

*Step Brothers

Year: 2008 Runtime: 1h 26m Director: Adam McKay

The pinnacle of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s comedy career remains this modern classic, a movie that’s as rewatchable as anything you could possibly find on any streaming service. One of the reasons for that is the fearless joy with which Ferrell and John C. Reilly literally throw themselves into the roles of stepbrothers who start as enemies and end as family.

*Super Troopers

Year: 2002 Runtime: 1h 40m Director: Jay Chandrasekhar

A lot of the other Broken Lizard movies push their way through the revolving door of streaming services, but the cult comedy classic that really broke the troupe is actually kind of rare. So take the opportunity to watch a stoner comedy that has held up remarkably well in the two-decades-plus since its release.

Theater Camp

Year: 2023 Runtime: 1h 35m Director: Molly Gordon, Nick Lieberman

Something like a modern Waiting for Guffman , this Sundance hit lovingly parodies life at theater camps with a bunch of cast members who know a few things about how to stage a musical performance. Ben Platt, Noah Galvin, Molly Gordon, Jimmy Tatro, Ayo Edebiri, and more star in one of those comedies that feels destined to produce future stars. In particular, Galvin and Tatro are hysterical here in a movie that will work better for anyone who used to be a theater kid.

Triangle of Sadness

Year: 2022 Runtime: 2h 29m Director: Ruben Ostlund

A Best Picture nominee and Palme d’Or winner, Triangle of Sadness is the one of the biggest international critical darlings of 2022. From the writer/director of Force Majeure , this is the story of a model couple on a boat trip from Hell, a journey that goes so disastrously wrong that social lines are blurred forever. It’s a sharp commentary on the haves and have-nots with fun performances from Harris Dickinson, Dolly de Leon, Woody Harrelson, and more.

Weird Science

Year: 1985 Runtime: 1h 34m Director: John Hughes

John Hughes wrote and directed this hit comedy about a pair of social misfits who figure out a way to create their own dream woman, played unforgettably by Kelly LeBrock. Dated? Sure, but there’s a gleeful lunacy to Weird Science that’s pretty impressive, especially as the boys’ messing with mother nature get more and more out of control, and some memorable supporting performances by Robert Downey Jr. and Bill Paxton.

The Worst Person in the World

Year: 2021 Runtime: 2h 8m Director: Joachim Trier

The partnership between Neon and Hulu continues to pay off for subscribers as the streamer is the exclusive home of one of the most acclaimed films of 2021 in this Best Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film Oscar nominee. Renate Reinsve is stunning as a young woman named Julie who navigates career, love, and life in a film that’s funny, moving, and true.
