Oasis. Maintenance of the seas

Lots of drilling in the solarium and central park. They were re assembling one of the water slides looks like a big job

Not very relaxing in these areas at all. I understand they need maintenance but we were docked all day and they thought the best time to restart all this was in the afternoon just as everyone is getting back in board

Sone areas of the ship look v tatty. The windows everywhere are dirty, My room has what looks like blood stains on the curtain and it's ripped with holes in it. The vent in the bathroom is like a 747 engine it's so loud.

I'd expect more from a 3 star hotel. This ship is a bit of a rust bucket.

Don’t ever sail Grandeur.

Haha

They drilling and hammering the slide again.

I don't think it be operational anytime soon the way they going that clear bit has been removed and replaced twice now.

IMG_20240506_145140.jpg

Also one of the big counter leaver hot tubs is Down with a lot of sanding and drilling going on in there too. They trying to hide it with blue plastic sheets.

Can’t remember the last time we had a live refurb thread.

So do you expect them to not do any maintenance in between dry docks?

I don't think I've ever been on a cruise where some sort of project wasn't being worked.

I was just on the Grandeur and it was in pretty good shape. My room was good, no weird sounds. There’s always some maintenance, but nothing very disruptive. WiFi was generally good, I only got kicked off a few times in my room and got right back on. The crew was very nice.

There is a lot going on though. I mean a silly amount seems they saved it all up for the Europeans rather than annoy the Americans.

Sone choice language coming from the hot tub now f bombs are the norm.

IMG_20240506_150656.jpg

I am actually having a good time by the way. I suppose you can look for the negatives in everything.

Probably cheaper to get the work done in Spain than in the US.

Wasent the ship built in Europe? Maybe the right man with the right wrench is in Spain!

Somehow, I don't think OP would see it that way.

Is there anything you are pleased with?

Staff crew. Blooming amazing and the mojitos.

I did say above I was being a bit of a negative Annie. Though I do wish I could turn the fan in the shower off!

Gives me an excuse to drink more to sleep.

Leaving now for France x

It's a shame they can send her to Europe, do the dry docking first, then commence the summer season in Europe.   Instead they do the summer season with a ship that desperately needs a bit of TLC first. I watched her leave Miami last month, she's in desperate need of a paint!

Dry docking is up to availability of the actual dry docks.  They have to have an opening in their schedule.  This may not match up with the cruise line desired timeframe so the cruise line has to adjust accordingly.

The timing of the dry dock is not really up to RCI - it's mandated by the timing of the initial delivery of the ship.

well, she is 15 years old, guess it's time.

I’m into my third week on the ship (the TA preceded the OP’s sailing).  While Oasis is still a beautiful ship, the sounds of hammering and chipping have gone on throughout the TA and now this cruise.  One of the water slides is down, the solarium pool is closed with the tile being removed, two hot tubs were out of commission during the TA for a complete overhaul, and a third one is closed on this cruise.  During the TA, our balcony was off limits for 3 days for rust removal.  They are being very thorough in their maintenance.  With all that, the TA was fantastic and this cruise is shaping up to be the same.  Great crew!  Great ship!

Yep.   I didn't want to dive into all the variables that go into the timong.

Oasis is scheduled for the President's Cruise in June, 2024. What you're seeing is the ship being prepared for the cruise.

We sailed on Allure 2023 President's Cruise, same thing.

Ready the ship to host Royal President and executive staff. Plus about two thousand Crown and Anchor members.

If it makes you feel any better, last month, they were working on oasis too. Somehow, we managed to push through and still have a fabulous time.

Wow- sounds like the Adventure of the seas!  It was terrible.  Worst Royal ship we have ever been on.

We've quickly pivoted from "I can't believe RC doesn't keep their ships up" to "I can't believe RC is keeping their ships up" pretty quickly.
