Umphrey's McGee is an American progressive rock band originally from South Bend, Indiana which currently consists of members Brendan Bayliss, Joel Cummins, Ryan Stasik, Andy Farag, Jake Cinninger and Kris Myers.

Formed at the University of Notre Dame in December 1997 by guitarist/vocalist Brendan Bayliss, bassist Ryan Stasik, keyboardist Joel Cummins, and drummer Mike Mirro, Umphrey's McGee combined members of Tashi Station and Stomper Bob, two Notre Dame rock bands. Early concerts consisted of both original material and cover songs by bands such as Guns N' Roses, Phish and The Grateful Dead. The final line up was established by 2001 and the band then began practicing intense improvisational exercises, one of their most successful taking place in a hotel in the Jimmy Stewart Ballroom so they later named their onstage improvisational excursions Jimmy Stewart.

Their first major release came in June 2002 and was titled 'Local Band Does OK', that summer the first annual Bonnaroo Music Festival took place and the band played to their largest crowd to date. The band sold more CDs than any other artist on a bill that included Widespread Panic, Trey Anastasio, and Norah Jones. In 2003 the band toured extensively, logging over 150 shows for the year before releasing 'Anchor Drops' in 2004 which was recorded all over California. They appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! alongside Huey Lewis in 2006 to support their next release 'Safety In Numbers' which was their first album to break the US Billboard top 200 and peaked top twenty on the US Indie chart.

That year they featured at most of the major US festivals playing in total 129 shows for the year before a three-night stand in Chicago for New Year's Eve. The band continued to develop their complex and ever changing live show. In 2010, the band debuted UMBowl, an interactive concert in 4 sets each with a different themes. Ticket purchasers are sent ballots to vote for the selections for two quarters, while the other two quarters are based upon interactive text submissions/votes.

What can I say about Umphrey's McGee? A whole lot actually. For starters, there are two things I can guarantee - you'll never see the same show twice and you'll get always a dose of face melting rock.

This explains the cult like fan base that attends their 100+ shows a year. This is a band of road warriors for a reason - they know how to put on a show. Umphrey's McGee is lights by Jefferson Waful (often considered the seventh member of the band by fans), guitar riffs and solos from two dueling leaders (Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss), a keyboard wizard (Joel Cummins), a dynamic (and fashionable) bassist (Ryan Stasik), the most punctual drummer in today's music (Kris Meyers), and a percussionist (Andy Farag) bringing some extra umph to every song.

Most shows consist of two sets (with a perfect break in between to pound a drink or two) and a banging encore that will leave you wanting more. Don't make the mistake of missing this band because they're playing on week day, they bring it every night.

What a night, what a show! Indiana progressive rock outfit Umphrey's McGee take sonic rock to whole new places in a performance style that really pushes boundaries and puts emphasis on the importance of show. The lighting, visuals, musicians and vocalists all come together to compliment the strong musical spine of the programme.

Performing for just over fifteen years as an outfit, they have built a status of iconic on the circuit and will soon be following in the footsteps of their influencers such as Led Zeppelin and The Beatles. The experimental aspect of the show is nearly undetectable as even during lengthy jam sessions, the lighting and lasers allude to the idea it is all part of the overall performance. The improvisational element is evident tonight with a great cover of 'London Dungeon' by The Misfits to honour their venue of the evening. They are a fantastic live band and I'm surprised more people do not know about them as they are proficient, exciting and high quality all at once.

Umphrey's Mcgee puts on a sonic Rock n Roll like no other. As described well by lead guitarist Jake Cinninger, Umphrey's Mcgee is "self-indulgent orchestral rock n roll". The musicians, Brendan Bayliss, Jake Cinninger, Joel Cummins, Ryan Stasik, Andy Farag, and Kris Meyers, will each take their turn blowing your mind with some smooth jams and at other times crazy jams. If you're going to an Umphrey's show, there's only two things you know for sure going in: 1) you never know what you're going to get, and 2)you'll leave satisfied. Strap on your boots and head to the stars with Umphrey's Mcgee :)

Unfortunately I had to leave after a few songs. The venue was dramatically oversold and seemed to be a safety risk. It sucks because they were off to a great start. Will just have to get the show from their website.

I've had great experiences seeing them at outdoor shows and will do so again. I will definitely not attend any shows for any bands at Express Live again.

Last night the UmpreyMcGee show was fantastic in Des Moines Iowa it was on the river at the skating park the weather was beautiful there was no warm-up group and they only took one break the weather was perfect and the show was fantastic Definitely would go see them again it was a rocking show.

Better than I hoped for. Really enjoyed the show. Wish I could see the 2nd show tonight. These guys rock and had 4 encours 2hrs 42min show.

Sound board was clear, light show good and lots of X great people watching.

Great show. They kept it going and made us happy as they do. The jams were awesome and always the variety of music is amazing. The light show usually bugs me but this was so good. Maybe I'm learning to like it.

Amazing show ! Danced the night away ... Thanks guys ;) you rocked my world ... thanks for lettucing all of us join you musical revolution for the night on the banks of the boston shoreline !

Umphrey’s McGee Round Out 2023 Tour with Nine Additional Dates, Announce After Parties for The Capitol Theatre

Umphrey’s McGee have added nine additional dates to their upcoming tour in celebration of their 25th anniversary together, now stretching out throughout April, which already included dates to make up for shows postponed by Hurricane Ian.

The April segment of UMXXV will begin with a show in Pensacola, Fla., on April 12. They’ll continue to perform in The Sunshine State with performances in St. Petersburg on April 13, Orlando on April 14 and Miami Beach on April 15. From there, they’ll head to Fayetteville, Ark., for a performance on April 19.

After their stop in Arkansas, they’ll head southwest to major cities in Texas, with stops in Austin on April 20, Houston on April 21 and Dallas on April 22. After a short pause, Umphrey’s McGee will then head to Isle of Palms, S.C., for a show at The Windjammer on April 27 before making good on their rescheduled shows in Wilmington, N.C. on April 28, Savannah, Ga. on April 29 and finally Birmingham, Ala., on April 30.

It’s notable the tour will kick off on Jan. 12, and they’ll enjoy support from Neighbor during their set at the Wind Creek Event Center in Bethlehem, Pa., on Jan. 15, Eggy at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., on Jan. 20 and 21. After their performances at The Capitol Theatre, Umphrey’s McGee’s Ryan Stasik will perform after parties with Heaven Help Us, featuring Ross Bogan, Thomas Kenney and Jonathan Peace on Friday, Jan 20 and his punk metal band Death Kings the following evening on Saturday, Jan. 21.

Umphrey’s McGee will also enjoy support from Doom Flamingo during their shows at Fort Wayne, Ind.’s The Clyde Theatre on Jan 26, GLC Live at 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Jan 26 and finally at The Fillmore in Detroit on Jan. 28.

A presale for the newly added dates will commence tomorrow, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. local time, while general onsale tickets will go on sale this Friday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. local time.

UPDATE: Umphrey’s McGee Extends ‘umXXV’ 25th Anniversary Tour With Nine New Dates

[UPDATE 12/6/22]:  Umphrey’s McGee  has announced the addition of nine new April 2023 shows to its previously announced umXXV Anniversary Tour . Following the previously announced first leg of the veteran prog-jam act’s 25th touring year, which runs from mid-January to mid-March of 2023, Umphrey’s McGee will pick back up in April for performances in Florida, Texas, and more.

The newly announced batch of April 2023 Umphrey’s McGee tour dates will begin with a four-night, four-show Florida run including shows at Pensacola’s Vinyl Music Hall (4/12), St. Petersburg’s Jannus Live (4/13), and Orlando’s House of Blues (4/14) in addition to the band’s debut performance at the scenic  Miami Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach on Saturday, April 15th.

From there, Umphrey’s McGee will head to Fayetteville, AR (4/19), Austin, TX (4/20), Houston, TX (4/21), and Dallas, TX (4/22), before wrapping up in Isle of Palms, SC on April 27th.

Pre-sale tickets for all newly announced dates go on sale on Thursday, December 8th at 10:00 a.m. local venue time. Remaining tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, December 9th at 10:00 a.m. local time.

[10/7/22]: Umphrey’s McGee is turning 25 next year and the band will celebrate it with the  umXXV Anniversary Tour . The 27-date run of coast-to-coast shows will include a 25th birthday party at  The Capitol Theatre  as well as support from  Neighbor  and  Doom Flamingo  on select dates.

The umXXV Anniversary Tour kicks off with two nights at  9:30 Club  in Washington, D.C. (1/12, 1/13). Later that month, Umphrey’s will head to New York for a three-night run culminating with two shows at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester (1/20, 1/21). The second show will mark exactly 25 years since Umphrey’s McGee’s first-ever concert at Bridget McGuire’s Filling Station in South Bend, IN in 1998. The band will celebrate its birthday proper with a special umVIP pre-show event at  Garcia’s featuring a performance from Hartliss  (Brendan Bayliss and Jennifer Hartswick).

The pre-party will also include a screening of an upcoming umXXV  retrospective, which the band said will include “25 years’ worth of archived audio, video, art, and more.” Full details on the umVIP pre-party are available here .

The rest of the tour will see Umphrey’s McGee play both coasts, the Midwest, and the high seas with an appearance on  Jam Cruise 19 . On January 15th in Bethlemen, PA, Umphrey’s will receive support from Neighbor, while bassist  Ryan Stasik ‘s side project Doom Flamingo will open on a three-night stretch of Midwest shows in Fort Wayne, IN (1/26); Grand Rapids, MI (1/27); and Detroit, MI (1/28).

Pre-sale tickets and umVIP packages for the Umphrey’s McGee  umXXV Anniversary Tour  go on sale on Tuesday, October 11th at 10 a.m. local time. The most prestigious race in cycling is back, and NBC Sports will cover every stage of the Tour de France on Peacock . Here is everything you need to know about the 2024 Tour de France.

When is the 2024 Tour de France?

The 2024 Tour de France spans from Saturday, June 29 through Sunday, July 21. The event begins one week earlier than usual due to the start of the Paris Olympics on July 26.

How to watch the 2024 Tour de France in the USA

Each stage of the 2024 Tour de France will be streamed on Peacock , and a few select stages will be broadcast on NBC.

Coverage of each day’s stage will begin on Peacock . Stage 8 (July 6) and Stage 14 (July 13) will move over to NBC at 8 a.m. EST. Finally, coverage of the penultimate Stage 20 will be replayed on NBC starting at 4 p.m. EST.

What time does the Tour de France start?

Coverage of the 2024 Tour de France’s first stage begins at 6:30 a.m. on June 29. Each stage will kick off between 6 and 7:30 a.m. EST, with the exception of the 21 st and final stage, which starts at 10:10 a.m. EST on July 21.

What’s the full route for the 2024 Tour de France?

The Tour de France begins in Florence, Italy, and finishes in Nice, France.

Because the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be taking place in Paris, this will mark the very first year that the Tour de France will not end in the “City of Light.” It’s also the first time the Tour ends with a time trial since 1989.

The Tour features four summit finishes and two time trials. The vertical gain will eclipse 52,000 meters over the 21 stages.

The 19th stage climb up Cime de la Bonette will reach an elevation of 2,802 meters (1.75 miles), the highest-altitude summit in modern Tour history. It was last on the route in 2008.

Who won the 2023 Tour de France?

Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard won the 2023 Tour de France, his second straight victory in the event. If Vingegaard wins again this year, he would be the first cyclist to win the event three straight years since Chris Froome from 2015-2017.

Vingegaard suffered a broken collarbone and ribs and a collapsed lung in Spain in April following a crash in the Tour of the Basque Country. He was hospitalized for nearly two weeks and his status for the Tour de France was uncertain, but he will compete when action begins in Florence.

Tour de France 2024: TV and streaming, schedule, stages, route, and what to watch for

Cycling’s premier event is about to get underway.

And it will look a little different than in year’s past.

The 2024 Tour de France, the 111th in history, begins on Saturday June 29. However, the starting point for this year’s Tour de France, as well as the finish line, will mark a series of firsts for the event.

To mark 100 years since Ottavio Bottecchia became the first Italian rider to win the Tour de France, this year’s race will begin in Italy, with riders setting off in Florence. The first three stages of this year’s Tour de France will keep riders in Italy, before the Tour’s fourth stage sees riders make the journey from Pinerolo in Italy, to Valloire in France.

In addition, this year’s Tour de France schedule coincides with the 2024 Paris Summer Games, which begin in Paris at the end of July. As such the Tour de France will conclude in Nice, with the final stage of the 2024 Tour de France bringing riders from Monaco to Nice.

This year’s Tour de France also concludes with an individual time trial, the first time the event has concluded with an ITT since 1989. That year saw the legendary duel on the final day between Greg LeMond and Laurent Fignon.

This year’s event has no shortage of storylines, starting with the battle between Dane Jonas Vingegaard, riding for Visma—Lease a Bike, and Slovenian Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates.

Vingegaard is the reigning Tour de France champion, winning in both 2022 and 2023 ahead of his rival Pogačar. But his status for this year’s Tour de France is a huge question mark, as Vingegaard endured a horrific crash at the Tour of Basque Country in April. The Danish cyclist suffered a broken collarbone, several broken ribs, a pulmonary contusion and a pneumothorax as a result of the crash, and spent 12 days in the hospital.

Vingegaard’s questionable form has opened the door for Pogačar to perhaps claim another title. The Slovenian took home the prestigious yellow jersey, the maillot jaune, in both 2020 and 2021; his victory in 2020 at the age of 21 made him the second-youngest winner in race history.

The two are the odds-on favorites to compete for the top spot on the podium again in 2024, but Vingegaard’s recent crash has made his rival the favorite.

Beyond the two favorites, there are some other riders in the field who could challenge for the yellow jersey. Primož Roglič from Slovenia, riding for Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe, is one of the older riders in the field but might have some unfinished business after losing out to fellow Slovenian Pogačar in 2020. Roglič failed to finish in both 2021 and 2022, but won the Critérium du Dauphiné at the start of the month, fending off a late challenge from Matteo Jorgenson from Visma—Lease a Bike.

Remco Evenepoel from Soudal Quick-Step is another rider to watch. The Belgian cyclist suffered a crash of his own at Basque Country, but seemed back in form during the Critérium du Dauphiné when he was part of the chasing pack that put Roglič under pressure in the final stage. Considered one of the sport’s premier time trialists, the schedule sets up well for him with the 2024 Tour de France containing a pair of time trials, including the one on the final day previously mentioned.

For American fans Jorgenson represents your best hope for Tour de France glory. However, his role this year might best be described as “undetermined,” given Vingegaard’s questionable form. Should Vingegaard be healthy Jorgenson may serve as an auxiliary leader for Visma, and one of the sport’s premier domestiques. But if Vingegaard struggles with his health as a result of his recent crash, the 24-year-old could be thrust into a major role. And given his recent performance — including finishing just eight seconds behind Roglič at Dauphiné — he is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

Stages, dates, and distances for the 2024 Tour de France

Here are the stages for the 2024 Tour de France. According to the official website there are eight stages classified as flat, four stages classified as hilly, seven mountain stages (including four summit finishes: Saint-Lary-Soulan Pla d’Adet in Stage 14, Plateau de Beille in Stage 15, Isola 2000 in Stage 19, and Col de la Couillole in Stage 20). There are also two individual time trials, along with a pair of rest days.

Overall, the 2024 Tour e France route covers 3,498 kilometers (2,174 miles) and contains 52,230 meters (171,358 feet) of total vertical climb.

If riders were hoping to ease into the 2024 Tour de France, they have another thing coming. The opening stage of this year’s Tour not only marks the first time the race has started in Italy, but it might be the toughest opening stage in history, featuring 3,600 meters (11,811 feet) of climbing. The final climb into San Marino, featuring over seven kilometers (4.35 miles) of climb at nearly five degrees.

The two toughest stretches are likely Stages 14 and 15, as well as Stages 19 and 20. Not only are all four stages mountain stages — meaning riders will have to conquer the mountains on back-to-back days — but all four stages contain a summit finish: Saint-Lary-Soulan Pla d’Adet in Stage 14, Plateau de Beille in Stage 15, Isola 2000 in Stage 19, and Col de la Couillole in Stage 20.

Stage 9 is a very intriguing stage. While it is classified as “hilly” Stage 9, which sees riders start and finish in Troyes, it also contains 14 “white road” sectors. White roads on the Tour de France are dusty, gravel roads that have been a feature of this event.

In addition, the 2024 Tour de France concludes with an Individual Time Trial, the second ITT of this year’s race and the first time the Tour de France will finish in such fashion since the legendary LeMond-Fignon duel in 1989.

Memorial Health Championship presented by LRS: Field, tournament facts, storylines to follow and more

The Korn Ferry Tour returns to Springfield, Illinois, for the ninth playing of the Memorial Health Championship presented by LRS at Panther Creek Country Club, the 16th event of the Tour’s 26-event season.

John Pak claimed his first career Korn Ferry Tour victory at last week’s Compliance Solutions Championship in Norman, Oklahoma. Pak, who entered last week No. 51 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List, moves inside the top 10 to No. 9 on the points list after his victory at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

Here are three things to know:

1. Past champions return

Three past championships return to Springfield this week: Paul Haley II (2022), Brett Drewitt (2020) and Xinjun Zhang (2019). Haley set the 72-hole tournament scoring record en route to his victory with a 27-under 257. Reigning champion Paul Barjon claimed his first victory of the 2023 season at last year’s Memorial Health Championship presented by LRS. The Dumbea, France, native went on to win the 2023 Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing & Finance to finish No. 8 on the 2023 points list and return to the PGA TOUR.

2. A new face in the field

University of Illinois rising senior Jackson Buchanan, who is playing on a sponsor exemption this week, will make his first career start on the Korn Ferry Tour this week. The 22-year-old made his first career start on the PGA TOUR earlier this month at the U.S. Open (MC). Buchanan was named to the 2023 NCAA All-Championship Team with a T2 in the stroke play at the NCAA Championship and was named Big Ten Golfer of the Year this past season.

3. Will the trend of multi-winners continue?

Umphrey's McGee

June 2023 dates announced.

The UM 25th anniversary tour will continue as we bring the celebration to the northeast this June. Umphrey’s McGee will make our debut at Great Cedar Showroom at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Connecticut, and will return to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire; Hyannis, Massachusetts; Portland, Maine; and Buffalo, New York. 

With the exception of one show to be added on July 2nd, there will be no additional UM dates until mid-August so make those plans now. 

Pre-sale will begin Wednesday, February 22, at 10:00 am ET; public on-sale will begin this Friday, February 24, at 10:00 am ET.
