PGA TOUR, ESPN+ Announce Details of Expanded and Extended Coverage Beginning in January

• PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ set to launch January 2022
• Four new streaming feeds more than triples live coverage to more than 4,300 exclusive hours

ESPN+ and PGA TOUR announced details for the inaugural season of PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ , with extended and expanded coverage that more than triples the total coverage – adding more than 3,200 new hours of live streaming available for a total of more than 4,300 exclusive hours. All PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ coverage will be available to ESPN+’s more than 17.1 million subscribers.

In 2022, PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will include live coverage of 35 tournaments – from the TOUR’s Hawaii events in January all the way through the FedExCup Playoffs and into the fall – with at least 28 events having four full days of coverage and four simultaneous live feeds each day.

“The start of the PGA TOUR in 2022 will tee off a new and exciting opportunity for fans to watch the best golfers in the world,” said Burke Magnus, President, Programming and Original Entertainment, ESPN. “The new and expanded PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ is an incredible offering for golf fans – with more than three times the coverage from last season, while also bringing them access to thousands of other sporting events and original programming, all for $6.99 per month.”

With the launch of PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ comes new streaming feeds that will bring expanded coverage of events totaling more than 4,300 exclusive hours. Beginning with The American Express (January 20-23, 2022), PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will offer fans four live feeds for each tournament:

• Main Feed : primary tournament-coverage featuring the best action from across the course;
• Marquee Group : new “marquee group” showcasing every shot from each player in the group;
• Featured Groups : traditional PGA TOUR LIVE coverage of two concurrent featured groups;
• Featured Holes : a combination of par-3s and iconic or pivotal holes.

When network television coverage begins, the four streams will pivot to two featured groups and two featured holes so fans can continue to engage with PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ in addition to the telecast.

Rick Anderson, Chief Media Officer, PGA TOUR said, “The PGA TOUR couldn’t be more excited to launch a new era in content delivery with Disney and ESPN+, which will greatly expand and diversify our audience reach. There will be more content available to our fans than ever before with an exciting and diverse group of on-air talent delivering the action.”

This expanded, unprecedented coverage, with over-the-top (OTT) streaming and emerging technologies moving to ESPN+, is part of the TOUR’s new nine-year domestic media rights portfolio announced in March 2020 .

The weekly production crew behind PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will increase from approximately 85 people to more than 210, with 16 cameras on the course, and a 15-person talent crew calling the action across the four channels. The expanded talent roster is still being finalized and will include current studio hosts John Swantek, Jonathan Coachman, Lisa Cornwell and Ned Michaels and on-course analysts Christina Kim, Karen Stupples, Mark Immelman, Chantel McCabe, Mark Wilson, Stuart Appleby and Michael Collins.

“We are excited about the growth of PGA TOUR LIVE and the opportunity to reach a larger audience on ESPN+,” said PGA TOUR Vice President and Executive Producer Greg Hopfe. “Four separately produced streams will showcase more action than ever before from top players and fan-favorite holes at each tournament. We look forward to being able to share nearly every shot from golf fans’ favorite players on ESPN+.”

PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will cover both early January Hawaii events – Sentry Tournament of Champions and Sony Open in Hawaii – for the first time with Featured Groups coverage in the mornings, followed by Featured Holes in the afternoons.

The complete four feed PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ offering will begin at The American Express.

PGA TOUR LIVE originally launched in 2015. ESPN+, launched in 2018, has grown to reach 17.1 million subscribers. The combined PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will provide significant growth opportunities for PGA TOUR content via ESPN+’s digital reach, innovative platform and young and diverse audiences.

PGA TOUR LIVE will be part of any ESPN+ subscription, at no additional cost, alongside more than 15,000 other live sporting events, acclaimed studio programs, original series and documentaries and a library of other on demand programming.

Golf programming on ESPN+ also includes The Masters (115 hours of live coverage, plus 50 hours of The Masters Films from 1960-2020), The PGA Championship (200 hours of live coverage, plus 30 hours of library and classic programming), as well as the original series America’s Caddie with Michael Collins, which will return in 2022 with new episodes throughout the PGA TOUR season.

How to livestream PGA Tour golf: Your options, explained (plus 2024 schedule)

The 2024 PGA Tour is in full bloom, as the top male golfers compete on some of the world's most storied golf courses. Early in the season, Scottie Scheffler,  Xander Schauffele  and  Rory McIlroy  have already established themselves at the  top of the leaderboard , with  Jon Rahm  and  Viktor Hovland  nipping at their cleats.

Figuring out how to watch and stream each tournament can prove as difficult as trying to outshoot Scheffler. While we can't help you with your golf game, we can take the guesswork out of finding out how to watch every golf tournament on the 2024 PGA Tour. 

What network carries the 2024 PGA Tour

The 2024 PGA Tour will broadcast live on Golf Channel, CBS, NBC and ESPN. The PGA Tour will stream on ESPN+ and the live TV streaming services listed below. Not every channel will air every event.

CBS broadcasts an average of 20 weekend events per PGA Tour season, while NBC broadcasts weekend coverage of the PGA Tour for an average of 10 events each season. Golf Channel broadcasts early-round and morning weekend coverage of all PGA Tour events -- as well as weekend events not covered on broadcast TV. Golf Channel also carries primetime replays of all PGA Tour events. 

The final three tournaments of the FedEx Cup playoffs alternate each year between CBS and NBC.

How to watch the 2024 PGA Tour without cable

If you don't have a cable subscription, or your cable coverage doesn't include NBC or CBS, ESPN+ streams every PGA Tour event of the 2024 season. The easiest golf courses on the PGA Tour for the 2024 season

One of the most scenic golf courses on the PGA Tour 2024 schedule was the most gettable for the best players in the world.

It's no surprise, as it has been that way for the last three seasons, according to the stats .

The next three easiest courses on this list make up the rotation for the American Express in the southern California desert. That's probably also not a surprise.

The PGA Tour stats for easiest golf courses has 42 courses listed. The stats cover The Sentry through the Tour Championship. Take a closer look at the top 10 (with the full list of easiest golf courses below that) for the 2024 season.

1. Plantation Course at Kapalua - The Sentry

Kapalua is the only par 73 track on Tour and the pros tear it up every January. The scoring average in 2024 was more than 4 ½ strokes under par.

Yardage: 7,596

Scoring average: 68.366 (-4.636)

2. La Quinta Country Club - The American Express

One of three tracks used for the American Express, LQCC produced a scoring average of more than four strokes under par.

Yardage: 7,060

Scoring average: 67.905 (-4.097)

3. Nicklaus Tournament Course - The American Express

Also in the rotation for the American Express, this course was almost four strokes under par in 2024.

Yardage: 7,159

Scoring average: 68.085 (-3.916)

4. Pete Dye Stadium Course - The American Express

The third of three golf courses used at the the American Express, golfers were nearly three strokes under par there in 2024.

Yardage: 7,187

Scoring average: 69.149 (-2.852)

5. Keene Trace Golf Club (Champion Trace) - ISCO Championship

Yardage: 7,328

Scoring average: 69.363 (-2.637)

6. TPC Craig Ranch - The CJ Cup Byron Nelson

Yardage: 7,414

7. Torrey Pines Golf Course (North Course) - Farmers Insurance Open

The 2024 PGA Tour season is over, and the stats are in ranking most difficult courses played during the past eight months.

The top three on the list hosted majors. That’s probably no surprise to most but then you have to scroll down to No. 13 to see the fourth major venue.

In between those venues were, according to the stats , some of the most challenging golf courses on the schedule.

The top two most difficult courses played more than two shots over par while the top four all played more than one shot over par. There were 12 golf courses in all that had an average score of over par for the 2024 season, leaving 30 that the Tour pros averaged below par during the year.

1 Pinehurst No. 2 – U.S. Open

The sport was introduced at the 1900 Olympics, but it was quickly removed after 1904. Golf returned in 2016 and has since become one of the more compelling competitions to watch — even more now given the divide in professional golf. Players have been split up with the emergence of LIV Golf , while others remain loyal to the PGA Tour . At the Olympics, golfers from both tours will face off with loyalty only to their country.

The United States claimed gold medals for the men's and women's individual categories at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics , and now it will look to defend its victories.

Here's a breakdown of golf at the Olympics, including the format, schedule and competitors:

When and where will golf take place at the 2024 Olympics?

Golf competition will take place from Aug. 1 to Aug. 10 at Le Golf National , located in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, 41 km from the Olympic Village in Paris.

The men's event will be held from Aug. 1 to Aug. 4, followed by the women's event from Aug. 7 to Aug. 10.

How does golf work at the olympics.

There are four rounds of the men's and women's individual events before a winner is crowned.

It's similar to the PGA Tour format, where golfers compete over four days and the players with the lowest score after 72 holes wins. Unlike the PGA Tour, obviously, medals will be awarded to the individual with the lowest score (gold), second-lowest score (silver) and third-lowest score (bronze).

What is the golf format and schedule for the 2024 Olympics?

Olympic golf uses the stroke play format , which means that the player with the fewer total number of shots after four days and 72 holes wins.

The PGA Tour follows the same format, but LIV Golf is a shorter competition. LIV uses a 54-hole stroke play format over three days with a team and championship element.

While Olympic golf follows PGA's 72-hole and four-day format, it doesn't cut players after the second round. In that way, it follows the LIV format of letting every player compete from the first through the final round — regardless of how far behind they are.

How many golfers will compete in the 2024 Olympics?

There will be 120 golfers competing in Paris: 60 men and 60 women. That number remains unchanged from the 2020 Olympics, when Team USA's Xander Schauffele and Nelly Korda claimed the men's and women's gold medals.

How do golfers qualify for the Olympics?

Golfers qualify for the Olympics based on the Olympic Golf Ranking (OGR).

France, the host nation, is guaranteed to have two golfers: one man and one woman. The OGR will decide the other 118 competitors.

So, what is the OGR exactly? It's a system that awards points based on finishing positions in tournaments over a two-year "rolling" period. You can read more about the math behind it all here , but the bottom line is that the system ensures that the best players will qualify.

There's one other caveat, too. Each of the five Olympic continents (Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania) are guaranteed to have one man and women in the tournament. Even if a continent doesn't have a player ranked in qualifying position for the OGR, the highest-ranked eligible athlete will be given a bid.

A busy three-week stretch on the PGA Tour kicks off this week with the 2024 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village. Serving as the appetizer for the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, the Memorial welcomed the best players on the PGA Tour as it dons the signature status once again.

Cutting the field at the 36-hole mark like the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Genesis Invitational, the Memorial represents the final chance for players to fine-tune their games. A game which needs little sharpening is that of Scottie Scheffler. The world No. 1 arrived in Ohio as the clear-cut favorite after his top-10 performance at the PGA Championship and runner-up finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Finishing one stroke outside the playoff at this event a season ago, Scheffler looks to break through at Jack's place with a cooperative putter in tow as the clear 54-hole leader with a four-stroke lead on the field entering Sunday's final around. While there are other big-name golfers near the top of the leaderboard, the Memorial has become Scheffler's tournament to lose.

Should he pick up the victory, Scheffler would become the first golfer since Justin Thomas in 2017 to win five events in a season, and he would do so with two majors and the FedEx Cup Playoffs remaining on the table.
