How Much Does it Cost to go to Disneyland?

How much does it cost to go to Disneyland? Disneyland ticket calculator and tips for saving the most money when you visit Disneyland Resort. #Disneylandtickets #Disneylandbudget #Disneylandcalculator

Yes, it’s expensive. And prices can be a shocker if you haven’t been to Disneyland in a while and the ticket prices have jumped $20 or more over several years.

I understand it’s disappointing. I understand it’s difficult to swing a trip to Disneyland, that’s why we have put together all the best ways to save for Disneyland, including using our Disneyland ticket calculator below.

Disneyland tickets, food, flights hotels, souvenirs—there are so many costs adding up when planning a Disneyland vacation. How much is this Disneyland trip going to cost me? The dads sporting those “ Most Expensive Day Ever ” shirts know what I’m talking about.

But before we given and buy the shirt, let’s let’s break it down with our Disneyland ticket calculator.

How Much are Disneyland tickets?

When people ask “ how much does it cost to go to Disneyland? ” what they’re really asking is, “ how much is the Disneyland ticket? ” And if they can get over is that price, then they’ll continue to planning a vacation with flights hotels and all the other actions that come into play.

Answering that question isn’t as easy as it seems because prices fluctuate depending on the day you go, but that’s only if you’re going for one day.

If you’re looking to maximize your savings and really enjoy your time at Disneyland Resort, follow these steps for getting the lowest price Disneyland tickets and then use our Disneyland ticket calculator below:

  • Do not buy your tickets at the gate . In fact, don’t even buy your tickets from Disneyland itself. Unless you qualify for a specific discount such as military or the occasional Southern California resident pass, you want to buy your tickets at a discount. Book discount tickets with my ticket partner here and save over the price hike at the gate. Typical savings are a few dollars off per ticket and the more days to go, the more you save on your daily admission cost.
  • Buy before Disneyland prices go up.  Disneyland ticket prices generally go up each year by at least a few dollars, and sometimes Disney raises rates more than one time a year without notice. Generally, ticket prices increase at the beginning of a new year. Basically, if you know when you want to visit Disneyland, lock in your ticket prices as early as possible. My ticket partner even offers a Disneyland layaway plan so you can lock in the current ticket prices without worrying about a price increase .
  • What if I only have one day? Disneyland does not offer discounts on one day tickets. Prices for various tier days at Disneyland are $104 and go up to $154. That’s for one park, one day only. Why pay that when you can go for two days for a little bit more , especially if you want to park hop? Plus, multi-day tickets don’t need to be used consecutively.
  • Do not get scammed! If you ever see a huge discount from some random person online, I’d run for the hills—fast!

How Much is Disneyland food?

Feeding the family inside Disneyland can be a big expense. Our family of 5 usually spends about $125 a day on food in the parks.

We bring a few snacks and generally eat 2 meals in the park and lots of Disneyland treats . You can certainly plan accordingly and cut back on how much you spend on food in the park, especially if you pick items from our 10 Disneyland Meals for $10 article.

Disneyland Corn Dog

On one trip we ate breakfast before heading into the parks, got a free lunch at Earl of Sandwich ( see my list of all the places to eat at Downtown Disney here ) and only spent money on dinner and a couple treats for me and my three kids.

Disneyland Kid meals

Another time I spent 3 days at the park with just me and one of my girlfriends. We ate 3 meals in the park for 2 days of our trip and 2 meals in the park on 1 day (this is beginning to sound like my kid’s homework). Sometimes we shared meals, sometimes we didn’t. I averaged about $40 a day on food. Pretty good if you ask me!

How much are Disneyland hotels?

There are so many hotels in the Disneyland Resort area, and there are so many price options and amenities to choose from. I like to stay a close to Disneyland as I can, so I usually review a new area hotel a few times a year. Here’s a quick list of some of my favorites. Plus you can access all my hotel reviews here .

  • Favorite hotel with free breakfast is absolutely Holiday Inn Express and Suites
  • Favorite hotel pool is a toss up, but here’s my favorites
  • Favorite budget hotel is no doubt the Anaheim Hotel
  • Favorite hotel with family suite is Cambria Water Park or  Springhill Suites

How Much Does it Cost to drive or fly to Disneyland?

Road trippin’ it to Disneyland is usually the cheapest way to go, if you’re within a days drive of Disneyland. We usually drive rather than fly and instantly save at least $500 with our party of 5.

Long Beach Airport

When I fly out to Disneyland for work (yes, this is my actual job), I like to check flights on Southwest Airlines or JetBlue. My favorite airport to fly into is usually Long Beach , but I’ve also covered LAX so you can get to Disneyland quickly no matter where you land.

Thank you SO much for the discount package link, you literally saved my vacation lol! ??

Every little bit counts! 🙂

Since I live relatively close to Disneyland (approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes away), I opted to get the top season pass. Yes, it’s over $1000 dollars, but parking is included and I get 10-15 percent discounts at stores and restaurants in the park. It’s also a park hopper pass so I can jump between the two parks and I can go when I want (no blackout dates). What’s also good is that I can spread the payments over 12 months with no interest since I live in Southern California.

Steve, thanks for your insight. An Annual Pass can be a fab choice for locals and even some out of state frequent visitors. You’re spot on with the discounts, free parking (on certain passes), and monthly payments for So Cal residents. I definitely need get some more content written specifically for APs. Feel free to email me through the contact page, I’d love to get your opinion on a few things as I work on some AP content.

Love this post! I didn’t know it was possible to get discount tickets to Disney, at all. I’m going to check out that link. Shawn wants to fly next time we go… the cost kills me but I think he’s right. Our little guy HATES the car. We are going again in Sept/Oct for the little mans birthday. If you have tips for Disney at Halloween, I’m excited to hear them. 🙂 Also when should I grab tickets for the not-so-scary halloween party?!

Historically, tickets for Mickey’s Halloween Party go on sale to the general public in late July. You can read our post about it here https://thehappiestblogonearth.com/2015/07/mickeys-halloween-party.html and we will update it with info for 2016 likely in July when all the new dates are published. It should be a blast!

Thanks so much!

At the bottom of the post, there is a free printable Disney Vacation Budget worksheet printable.

What’s Your Travel Style?

We all have a personal travel style. Is your style on the frugal side, choosing the cheapest hotel and packing in all meals and snacks? Or do you prefer to splurge on vacation by staying at a 4-star hotel and booking special dining packages and tours?

I think most of us probably fall a little in between. Maybe you splurge on some things, like character dining meals but then pack in all snacks. Perhaps you book the cheapest hotel which allows you to purchase extra Park day tickets.

Planning to visit Walt Disney World in the spring? These are the top family travel tips about dealing with heavy Disney spring break crowds, what to pack, Epcot Flower & Garden Festival tips and special Easter holiday magic.

Choose a Reputable Travel Agent

Did you know that using the services of a travel agent costs no extra? In fact, a travel agent often offers additional incentives and specials when you book a full package vacation through them. Choose an agency that specializes in Disney travel, like Get Away Today .

disneyland trip cost calculator

Get Away Today is educated on all things Disney and can work out a package that fits within your budget. They even have special offers like free days or extra hotel nights when you book a vacation package. Get Away Today also offers the only refundable Disneyland tickets , when purchased with the Peace of Mind insurance package.

For vacationers that are planning well in advance, a layaway plan can be invaluable. For just $175 down, Get Away Today will lock in the current rates on your chosen vacation package. You’ll be able to pay it over time without any interest rates. And if prices decrease for any reason, Get Away Today will refund the difference!

The Ultimate Guide to Toy Story Land with kids includes tips on getting on the best rides, what to eat and where the most popular photo ops are at this new Disney World land inside Hollywood Studios.

Paying Upfront or Using Credit?

If you plan on paying for your vacation in cash, take a close look at your budget and estimate where you can cut back in small ways to save. Once you know roughly how much you’ll be spending on the trip, you can plot out the date of your vacation. From there, determine how much you’ll need to save each month to meet your goal.

If you plan on using your credit card, certainly consider using a card that offers rewards. The Disney Visa is a good option for Disney travel, as it offers discounts within the theme parks. Southwest airlines is another good charge card, if you’re needing airline miles.

Pay close attention to interest rates because you don’t want to pay more than necessary. Work that amount into your budget if you aren’t going to pay off the debt right away.

Park Reservations

Making theme park reservations is one of the newer things to know about Disney travel . Now that Disney park reservations are required for entry, buying tickets and making reservations needs to be one of the first steps in the planning process. Before you purchase tickets, check the Disneyland or Walt Disney World website reservation calendars.

Be sure to look at the calendar for the specific ticket type and tier you’ll be using. Those with Magic Key annual passes, tiered single day tickets and multi-day tickets may have different reservation calendars. For more details, read about everything you need to know about Disneyland tickets .

Park Tickets

Bottom line to know when pricing out tickets: the cost per day is lower the longer your stay. That means single day theme park tickets have the worst value (ie: are the highest priced). Multi-day tickets have the lowest per-day pricing. Adding a Park Hopper option adds additional cost.

I’ve included a few questions to ask yourself when deciding which Disney tickets to buy. Keep in mind that babies going to Disney don’t need a ticket. Any child that has not reached their third birthday will receive complimentary admission to any Disney park.

Ticket Options to Consider:

  • Number of days
  • Number of tickets
  • Would it be cheaper to purchase an Annual Pass?
  • Park Hopper or not?

DISCOUNT DISNEYLAND TICKETS – My travel partners at Get Away Today offer both discounted Disneyland tickets and Anaheim-area hotels to fit any budget! Many hotels include exclusive discounts like free parking, complimentary breakfast or even free nights, just for booking through Get Away Today.

Disneyland tickets purchased now are good through January 12th, 2025 . Purchase your multi-day tickets through Get Away Today today and lock in the best pricing of the year.

When you’re ready to book your Disneyland vacation, my friends at Get Away Today are ready to help! Mention code REWRITTEN to receive an extra discount off your SoCal vacation package (when booking 2+ nights with two or more tickets).

Travel Expenses

How are you going to get there? For my family, Disneyland is just a 90-minute drive away. Gasoline is really our only expense. But a vacation to Disney World requires a cross-country flight. If you’re heading to a Disney park from farther away, the travel expenses are often the most costly part of your vacation.

disneyland trip cost calculator

Air travel is best booked as soon as possible for the best pricing. Be sure to calculate the charges for transportation to and from the hotel, if you aren’t renting a car.

If a long drive is part of your travel plans, you’ll want to ensure your vehicle is in excellent driving condition. Add in the cost of a pre-trip vehicle inspection to your budget.

Travel Expenses to Consider:

  • Shuttle cost to get your family to the airport
  • Airline Baggage fees
  • Transportation to the hotel
  • Overnight hotel stay if you are driving long distance
  • Cost of meals/snacks on the road
  • Kid’s entertainment for the drive/plane trip

Choosing the Right Hotel

Accommodations are a must-have for extended Disney trips. Fortunately both Disney World and Disneyland offer lots to choose from including on-property resorts, off-site hotels, AirBnB or even renting Disney Vacation Club points .

I’ll cover both Disney World and Disneyland separately, as the choices for accommodations can vary between the two locations.

Wilderness Lodge hotel at Disney World with kids sitting on bunk beds

Disney World Hotels

When staying in the Orlando area for a Disney World vacation, choosing on-site offers the closest hotels to the park entrances. The network of resort buses and transportation options make staying at a WDW hotel a great choice. The Luxury, Moderate and Value priced locations ensure there’s at least one spot that will work within your budget.

For larger families or those looking for additional amenities, take a look at “off-site” locations. These hotels may include kitchens, additional bedrooms and still be close to the parks. Some places offer their own transit system in the way of shuttles.

disneyland trip cost calculator

Disneyland Hotels

The great debate when figuring Disneyland vacation cost – On-site or off-site? Lots of consider here, including amenities, luxury or budget, walkable distance to the Parks and overall cost.

Disneyland only has three “on-property” resort hotels – Grand Californian, Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier. All three fall within the luxury category when it comes to cost. Close proximity, on-site perks and the amazing Disney pools might be reasons for staying at a Disneyland resort hotel.

The Disneyland Resort is in the center of the city. Therefore it’s very easy to find a reasonably priced and well-appointed hotel within walking distance of the Parks. Many locations that are farther away may offer shuttle transport to the Parks.

Hotel Options to Consider:

  • Cost per night
  • Hotel rating and safe location
  • Location – Is it within walking distance or will you need to drive to the Parks each day?
  • Is complimentary breakfast available?
  • Parking or “resort” fees
  • Is there transportation available to the parks? Is it complimentary or is there a fee?

Budgeting for Disney Dining

Food and snacks are a big part of enjoying a day at Disney! Everyone wants to indulge in churros, Dole Whips and other iconic Disney foods but the cost can be prohibitive. Here are a few thoughts on dining at Disney parks, along with cost-saving ideas you don’t want to miss.

disneyland trip cost calculator

Most menu items are priced and can be found on the Disneyland or Disney World website or app. This makes planning out the actual cost of breakfast, lunch and dinner a little easier. Peruse the websites/apps to see average prices of meals.

Special dining packages and character dining locations don’t always show the cost, but instead display a range. Generally, expect that the lower cost is for breakfast meals and the higher cost is for dinner.

disneyland trip cost calculator

Character dining is one of the highest priced full service meals. Yes, there is the entertainment factor that comes along with it. If money is a concern, aim for just one character meal during the entire trip. Save special dining for a non-park day so you aren’t using up valuable park time.

In the Disneyland area, there are many establishments in the walkable area just outside the Park gates. You’ll find chain restaurants and fast food dining along Harbor Blvd. The Downtown Disney shopping district also offers meals including Mexican, pizza and sandwiches.

Dining Options to Consider:

  • Breakfast (eat at hotel or in the Park?)
  • Number of meals eaten in the Park
  • Number of meals purchased outside the Park
  • Snacks purchased in the Park
  • Snacks pre-bought and brought into the Park
  • Character dining meals
  • Dining packages

Saving Money on Food on a Disney Vacation

Meals, snacks and beverages can be a very big expense when determining your Disney World or Disneyland vacation cost. However there are ways of budgeting while still enjoying the best Disney dining and treats! Here are a few money-savers you need to know about when planning your trip.

disneyland trip cost calculator

  • When choosing character buffet meals, dine for breakfast or lunch instead of dinner (the higher priced option).
  • Quick service meals offer lower priced food and don’t need Advance Dining Reservations . In fact, some restaurants offer such large platters, they can often be shared between two family members.
  • Purchase grocery essentials and pack in meals when on a very tight budget. Sandwiches, chips, fruit and bottled water are all easy to bring into the parks.
  • Seek out hotels that offer complimentary breakfast.

disneyland trip cost calculator

  • Bring snacks with you into the parks to help with costs. Request free ice water at any quick service restaurant to avoid having to buy drinks.
  • Book a hotel with a kitchen . Many of the Disneyland-area hotels offer the convenience of full kitchens including the new Element by Westin .
  • Skip the “special event” dining options that offer reserved space for parades or shows. Instead save the cost difference and stake out your own viewing location.

Disney Genie+

Disney Genie+ is the new FASTPASS and Maxpass replacement that should be budgeted into your WDW or Disneyland vacation cost if you want to “skip the lines”.

Bottom line: Use of the short cut line (formerly called FASTPASS) is no longer included in a Disney park ticket. Expect to spend $20 per person per day for the use of Disney Genie+ at Disneyland.

Not all high profile attractions will be available on Genie+. To use the quick queue lines on rides like Rise of the Resistance, each guest must purchase an “Individual Lightning Lane”. To access those attraction short-cuts, the cost per person will be between $7-20 each. Read more about how Disney Genie+ works at Trips With Tykes .

Special Events

Throughout the year, Disney parks offers special events and tours as an “add-on” to your Park ticket. This might include Oogie Boogie Bash or Disney’s Merriest Nights Christmas Party at Disneyland. At Disney World, find Disney Very Merriest After Hours and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party .

disneyland trip cost calculator

There are also dozens of special tours, some that are offered year-round and others seasonally. Check the Disney websites to verify cost and availability of these tours as they are required to be reserved ahead of your trip.

Naturally, you’ll want something special to take home as a memento of your magical vacation. Work the cost of souvenirs into your budget to help resist overspending.

disneyland trip cost calculator

Consider purchasing Disney gift cards up front for family members so that only a specified amount is spent per person on souvenirs.

Decide if you want to pre-purchase the Disney PhotoPass or snap photos on your own camera. Keep in mind that PhotoPass will capture on-ride photos that your camera won’t get! Also, it can be beneficial to purchase PhotoPass so that all family members can appear in pictures.

To truly save on the cost of souvenirs, purchase ahead and bring items with you. These are the best Disney souvenirs to buy ahead of a trip .

Souvenir Money to Set Aside:

  • Souvenir budget or purchased gift cards
  • Disney PhotoPass (if not purchased through Disney Genie+, available at Disneyland only)
  • Silhouette Studio
  • Pressed Penny machines
  • Trading Pins

Other Extras to Keep in the Budget

Here are a few extra items to add in when figuring out your Disney World and Disneyland vacation costs. I’ve included suggestions on how to save a little money when adding these to your trip.

Stroller rental – Strollers are a must-have, even for kids that don’t usually use one. Consider renting instead of buying and packing. I recommend Kingdom Strollers at Disney World for their excellent customer service and clean products.

Clothing and accessories – Kid’s t-shirts regularly cost $25+ inside the park gates. Avoid purchasing premium-priced outfits and accessories at the theme park. Buy ahead and save money using the tips on this article about the best Disney outfits for kids .

Mouse Dining – If scoring advance dining reservations is high priority, try  MouseDining . For most guests, their free program is adequate. Upgrading to a paid account is reasonably priced. This offers additional features, including text alerts when preferred ADR open up. It’s a small price to pay towards your Disney World or Disneyland vacation cost, that can help save you time!

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique ( makeovers not currently available ) – This head-to-toe shop features everything needed to dress up like a favorite princess. Budget for the pricey boutique looks or consider your own DIY Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and save hundreds!

Disneyland Vacation Cost #1: Hotels

There are three Disney owned hotels in the Disneyland Resort: Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, and Disney’s Grand California Hotel and Spa. Staying at these hotels may carry a higher price tag than the Disney Good Neighbor hotels but there are plenty of perks that families enjoy which include:

  • Extra Magic Hour privileges (one-hour early access to the parks depending on the day)
  • Close location to the gates and monorail access
  • Being immersed in Disney magic every second of your trip
  • Room key can be used to pay for the parks and includes free package delivery to the hotel for souvenirs
  • Top notch Disney themed pools/waterslide amenities
  • Character dining on site

Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel

Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel is one of the three Disney owned hotels in the Disneyland Resort. This hotel falls in the low-range level of costs compared to the other two hotels. The cost of the rooms vary based on view, suites, and amenities. The view options at this hotel include the parking area, Disneyland Drive, or California Adventure. This hotel is the furthest away from the park compared to the other hotels with about a 10-15 minute walk from the park entrance. The pool at the Paradise Pier hotel is a rooftop pool with a waterslide and provides a great view of the fireworks at night.

The average cost for a standard room with two queen beds with a basic view (parking lot/street view) when you book through the Disneyland Resort starts at $444 per night.

This hotel is scheduled to receive an exciting transformation to a Pixar theme with a brand new entrance to California Adventure! No official start date for construction has been announced yet but the hotel will keep during this transformation.

Disneyland Hotel

Disneyland Hotel is one of the three Disney owned hotels in the Disneyland Resort. This hotel falls in the mid-range level of costs compared to the other two hotels. The cost of the rooms is broken down into options that vary based on view, suites, and amenities. The view options vary from a view of trees or the parking lot to the premium Downtown Disney view. The better the view, the higher the cost. This hotel has a classic 1950’s Disney theme and includes a renovated pool area with monorail themed waterslides.

The average cost for a standard room with two queen beds with a basic view (parking lot/trees) when you book through the Disneyland Resort starts $517 per night.

Disney’s Grand California Hotel and Spa

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa is one of the three Disney owned hotels in the Disneyland Resort. This hotel falls in the high-range level of costs compared to the other two hotels. The cost of the rooms is broken down into options that vary based on view, suites, and amenities. The view options are all great and they vary with a view of the courtyards, Downtown Disney, the pool, or California Adventure. The better the view, the higher the cost as per usual. This hotel is the most luxurious option with a wood lodge and stone California theme. It also has the most convenient location with a private entrance to California Adventure and easy access to Downtown Disney. The pool has great landscaping and a redwood themed water slide. And don’t forget the spa!

The average cost for a standard room with two queen beds with a basic view (parking lot/street view) when you book through the Disneyland Resort starts at $682  per night.

Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotels

One popular option for families that want to save some money on their vacation is to stay at Disney Good Neighbor hotel! There is plenty to choose from with these hotels and most of them are within walking distance to the parks and offer great amenities and budget-conscious prices. There are over 40 good neighbor hotels to choose from, which offers guests great flexibility when finding a hotel that meets their needs. Here are a few visitor favorite good neighbor options for visiting the Disneyland Resort.

Clarion Hotel

The Clarion Hotel is a Disney Good Neighbor hotel located just south of Katella Ave with about a 15-minute walk to the parks. This hotel falls into the low-range level of cost among the Good Neighbor hotels. It was recently remodeled and renovated and, according to most reviewers, this has been a huge improvement to the hotel. One great perk of this hotel is that kids eat free with a paying adult in their in-house restaurant. They have a heated pool although no water slides/water playgrounds.

The average cost for a standard room with two double beds when you book through their website  $166 per night.

When you book through our partners, Get Away Today, you can save considerably on hotel prices. The same room booked through Get Away Today is  $147 per night. Book this hotel now >

That is $19 in savings per night which makes a budget-friendly hotel even better when it comes to cutting costs.  The best part is that this hotel frequently offers one or two nights free through the Get Away Today website if you stay a minimum of three nights!

Read our review of the Clarion Hotel here!

Howard Johnson Anaheim Hotel & Water Playground

The Howard Johnson Anaheim Hotel & Water Playground is located just a block north of the gates which makes the walk about 8-10 minutes to the parks. This hotel falls into the mid-range level of cost among the Good Neighbor hotels. The best part of this hotel is the Pirate Cove waterpark area. There may not be giant waterslides to boast of but the waterpark area offers plenty of entertainment for families with children under 10. There is also an arcade and a small convenience store on site for souvenirs and snacks. Unfortunately, this hotel does not offer onsite dining but it does own a small restaurant called Mimi’s Cafe across the street.

The average cost for a standard room with two double beds when you book through the Howard Johnson website  $409 per night.

When you book through our partners, Get Away Today, you can save considerably on hotel prices. The same room booked through Get Away Today is  $334 per night. Book this hotel now >

That is $75 in savings per night which adds up quickly depending on the length of your stay. In addition to those savings, Get Away Today’s hotels will often offer one or two nights free depending on the hotel or length of stay.

Read our review of the Howard Johnson here!

Courtyard by Marriott Anaheim Theme Park Entrance

The Courtyard by Marriott Anaheim Theme Park Entrance is one of the highest rated Good Neighbor hotels near the Disneyland Resort and boasts of just a five-minute walk to the front entrance. Which is actually closer than some of the Disney owned hotels! This hotel falls in the high-range cost level compared to the other Good Neighbor hotels. The best part of this hotel is the waterpark which has six waterslides, water cannons, a 400-gallon drench bucket, and a children’s sized pool. This hotel offers an in-house restaurant which has also received some high star reviews.

The average cost for a standard queen and two bunk beds when you book directly through this hotel  $417 per night.

When you book through our partners, Get Away Today, you can save considerably on hotel prices. The same room booked through Get Away Today is  $329 per night.

That is $88 in savings per night which is a huge amount off of your Disney vacation cost!  Book this hotel now >

Disneyland Vacation Cost #2: Resort Tickets

Of course, you cannot forget to estimate the Disneyland vacation cost of your tickets when planning your Disneyland trip! Depending on the size of your family and the length of your stay, this will be a big part of your budget estimation. There are two main types of tickets: Park Hoppers and One Park Per Day.

The Park Hopper tickets allow you to go back and forth between Disneyland and California Adventure on the same day. The One Park per Day tickets only allow you access to either Disneyland OR California Adventure in a single day. If you only have one day to spend at the parks, it is highly suggested to get the Park Hopper tickets so you can see both parks! The breakdown of ticket costs varies depending on the duration of days in addition to whether you pick Park Hopper tickets or not. The Park Hopper is always recommended so you can get the best out of your visit to the parks by having that flexibility.

Disneyland Ticket Prices

Gone are the days of $41 ticket prices ! I urge you to take a look at our Disneyland Ticket Discounts.  As you will see, the savings will really add up and help put some extra cash towards food, airfare, or souvenirs.

Booking discount tickets through our site is easy and convenient. The ticket vouchers are emailed to you in advance and all you have to do is bring them straight to the ticket booth. No more waiting in line to pick them up!

To give you an idea of average cost, a 3-day park hopper ticket for an adult booked through our travel partner is $323 (a savings of $20) and an child 3-day park hopper ticket is $323 (a savings of $20) – if you book multiple tickets through our partner, the savings will really add up.

Your first step when planning the cost of your vacation is to first consider these factors:

  • this determines the cost of your hotel and what ticket type you purchase
  • we always recommend park hoppers because it's so easy to park hop at Disneyland with the two parks being just minutes across from each other
  • if you're looking to do things on a budget, you can save an average of $30 per ticket if you do 1-park per day
  • hands down, the priciest hotel options are the official Disneyland resort hotels- if money is no object, then splurge!
  • if you're looking to travel on a budget, consider one of the lower priced good neighbor hotels- there are plenty within easy walking distance to the parks

Once you've figured those important steps out, you have a good idea of what your base cost will be!

Disneyland Vacation Cost #3: Travel Cost

This will depend on where you live and how you're traveling to the Disneyland Resort. If you're driving to Disneyland, figuring out the cost is a formula that will simply work best to figure out yourself since it depends on how many miles, gas prices, and the gas mileage on your vehicle. We'll instead focus on flying into California when discussing cost in this part of our guide.

If you are flying into California, you have two options of airports that are the closest to Disneyland . SNA (John Wayne Airport) or LAX (Los Angeles International). A fan favorite is SNA just for the convenience of only being about a 20-30 minute drive from the resort and the nearby hotels depending on traffic. That’s the keyword in California: traffic! LAX is about an hour away and there tends to be a heavy amount of traffic.

However, LAX tempts many guests visiting Disneyland because the airfare is generally a bit cheaper than flying into SNA. This is where you weigh the benefit of cost vs. time. We've flown into both airports many, many times and despite the money I save when I pick LAX… I always regret it when we're stuck in a shuttle van on the way to Anaheim. In this instance, the money saving option isn't always worth it!

Sticking with SNA if possible can be a way to make this part less time-consuming. Keep in mind like with most airfare: it will be cheaper to fly in the ‘off season’ and more expensive in the summer and around holidays!

Transportation to/from Disneyland

Once you land at the airport, you have a few options for transportation to/from Disneyland. Here are the most common transportation options guests use with an average cost estimate based on traveling to/from SNA:

Read all about getting from the the John Wayne SNA Airport to Disneyland here .

  • This is by far the most convenient. Once you get your bags at baggage claim, simply call for an Uber/Lyft and you're on your way to your hotel. You won't have to share your ride with other people and it's a straight shot to the hotel.
  • Use our code:   “gavind714ue” in the app or redeem  right here to get a discount if you're a first time user.
  • This is a good option for guests that aren't comfort with ride share services
  • This is the option if you want to splurge and ride to your Disneyland hotel in style. Lansky is a higher end transportation option that provides one free grocery stop on the way to your hotel and car seats.
  • We don't recommend this option since this can end up being more costly than it's worth. Most Anaheim area hotels charge a parking per night fee and since Disneyland is within walking distance of most hotels there's no need to drive.
  • If you want to take a day off and see the beach options in the area, rent a car for that day only and then return it to be the most cost effective.

Unfortunately, the shuttle services were hit hard this year economically as of now formerly popular services such as Super Shuttle and Disneyland Resort Express will cease operations by January 2021.

You can read more in detail about transportation services to/from local airports in our main transportation guide.

Disneyland Vacation Cost #4: Food

Ah, now for the best part… the food! It’s always better to overestimate in the food and souvenier categories to allow for some flexibility and less stress on your vacation.

This will largely depend on your family and lifestyle. Some folks come to Disney with cash to spend and some folks come on a strict budget. You can cut back on this Disneyland vacation cost by bringing as much food into the parks as you can (which is totally allowed!). Grab and go restaurants will be the most affordable in the park while dine-in service will be the most expensive. For example, one adult and one child could easily spend $1000 on food if they ate most meals in the park on a five-day visit and splurged on one dining package with reserved viewing for one of the shows or parades. If you're looking to cut corners on food cost, you can also bring a lunch and store it in a locker. There is a reserved picnic area for families to eat lunch with lockers near by so take advantage of this great option provided by Disney.

We highly recommend reading our Disneyland Restaurant Reviews guide to get a comprehensive overview of all your dining options so that you and your family make the best of your trip.

But to help give you an idea of cost, I'll give you some insight into how much money I typically set aside for food when I'm traveling to Disneyland with my nine year old son. I tend to splurge when it comes to food so keep that in mind when you see my estimation of cost for a five day park visit.

First, I plan out what type of dining experiences we want to do. Dining packages are the most expensive dining options but we always partake in at least two on our trip. I budget for those first in our total. We usually always do the World of Color Dessert Part y and the Blue Bayou Fantasmic! Package . Based on the cost for those two experiences for the both of us, I know to set aside about $350 for those two experiences.

Once I've figured out dining packages, I then take a look at the list of table service restaurants and decide where we will eat. Here is a cost estimate based on our three most favorite restaurants:

  • Cafe Orleans : $60 for both of us if we get a kids meal, adult meal and mint juleps
  • Carnation Cafe : $40 for both of us with a kids meal and adult meal
  • Lamplight Lounge : $60 for both of us with a kids meal, appetizer, and adult drink

So based on those three most common restaurants and the two dining packages, I'm up to about  $500  in cost so far with at least four large meals covered.

Second, I plan how much money to set aside for quick-service meals. A helpful thing to consider is if you will go back to your hotel room for breaks. If so then plan to eat a meal at your hotel (stop at a grocery store at the beginning of your trip for supplies!) and this can help you save some extra money. It's also helpful to know that you will want to eat a lot at Disneyland. You're walking an average of anywhere from five-eight miles a day and that sort of calorie burning will make your entire family hungry.

Since I know my son is the type that isn't happy unless he's eating, I set aside a significant chunk of money for quick-service meals and meal items from the stands such as pretzels and corn dogs. If I'm planning for five days inside Disneyland and I know that I have at least four large meals covered with dining packages, I need to plan for at least six quick-service meals/big snack stops. Usually one stop at a quick-service location costs us anywhere from $20-40 depending on what we order. Based on that estimate, I'll go with the higher end of the spectrum and set aside about $250 for six quick service meals.

Third, I set aside money for snacks. This is where things can easily become a money pit in our case since we are well declared churro addicts. I know that one stop at a churro stand for two churros and two sodas can cost about $20.  Based on that, I set aside about  $50  per day for five days for snacks on the estimate we'll stop for churros twice or snacks with a similar cost range. So in the snack category, I set aside a total of $250  to cover our churro, popcorn, and Dole Whip delights.

Here's the rundown of my estimate based on the choices I made above:

  • Two dining packages-  $350
  • Three table-service meals- $150
  • Six quick-service meals-  $250
  • Two snacks per day, for five days-  $250

This brings my total for five days of eating exclusively at Disneyland, aside from breakfeast which we eat at the hotel, to an average of  $800.

Based on past experience, I know that we will likely spend more than this and the guilty culprit is usually soda and snacks. Aside from being a churro addict, I am also lost without my Coca-Cola and I drink way more soda in a day than I care to admit in this blog post. We also tend to be a sucker for things like popcorn buckets, drink souveniers, and other little doodads the snack carts entice you with. Because I know this about myself, from learning the hard way, I will add an extra $200  to my estimate for cushion for extra food. If I don't spend it, great. But at least I planned for it!

Based on this logic, my total for two people splurge eating at Disneyland for five days is  $1000.  To save myself some money, I will purchase Disney gift cards at Target with my Red Card and save 5% on this total which amounts to $50 saved. So in reality, I will spend $950  on food during our visit.

Things to keep in mind about my estimated budget:

  • We splurge on things like popcorn buckets and extra churros so I accounted for that
  • I figured in the cost of cocktails at the Lamplight Lounge which drove the cost up for that dining option
  • I also round up consistently to give myself a cushion to plan for
  • My son can still enjoy kids meals until he turns ten but aside from table-service restaurants he eats about the amount of an adult at this point
  • We eat breakfast at our hotel before heading to the parks
  • We always pack things like trail mix, crackers, and bring bottles of water to try and eliminate too many snack stops… despite my Coca-Cola dependency
  • If you plan on avoiding soda and refilling your water bottle all day, you can save a huge amount of money since one bottle of soda costs about $5 anywhere in the park

I hope this helps give you an idea of how to budget and some insight into what that planning process looks like. You can also pull up the Disneyland app on your phone and look at the menus at the restaurants which will have all the prices listed. This is the most efficient way to plan a meal budget that's realistic. Always plan to spend more and strive to spend less, this is the best way to have a happy medium!

Disneyland Vacation Cost #5: Souvenirs

Don’t forget souvenirs! There are so many wonderful Disney items to buy in the park and it’s always a safe bet to allow a little extra cushion in this category. Scroll through our  Best Disneyland Souvenirs  to make sure you leave Disneyland with a Mouseketeer smile.

One cost strategy to help keep that souvenir monster in check is to give each kid their own souvenir budget on a Disney gift card. This helps drive home the idea of ‘once it’s gone, it’s gone!’ and can really help avoid unnecessarily meltdowns in the parks. If you have a Target Red Card, then you can use that to buy Disney gift cards with a 5% discount . The Disney gift cards can be used everywhere in the parks, a gift that keeps on giving!

To give you an example, I typically set aside $50 on a gift card for my son to spend (after he's earned it doing extra chores…) and that's his spending money. For myself and for family purchases (ears, t-shirts, mugs) I bring about $300 to cover any souvenirs we would wear in the parks and take home purchases.

Now this is just a rough estimate, I am extremely guilty of overspending on souvenirs so I bring a little extra cushion. But I am also more of a splurger when it comes to our trips. If you want to set yourself a strict budget, I recommend loading your souvenir money on a gift card and then when it's gone… it's gone! You can also crusie the Shop Disney website to get an idea of what Disney prices look like and what you can expect to pay for items in the park.

If you plan on visiting Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and partaking in the Droid and Lightsaber building experiences… I would count on adding at least $400 to cover those experiences and accessories. It's easy to spend a small fortune on Batuu if you're a Star Wars fan!

Disneyland Crowd Calendar

Each year we receive more than 1,000 e-mails and letters inquiring about crowd conditions on specific dates throughout the year. Readers also want to know which park is best to visit on each day of their stay. To make things easier for you (and us!), we've created a calendar covering the next three months. For each date, we offer a crowd-level index based on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being least crowded and 10 being most crowded. Our calendar takes into account all holidays, special events, and more.

Disneyland Touring Plans

Helping you avoid bottlenecks is what this website is about. Bottlenecks are caused by crowd concentrations and/or faulty crowd management. Avoiding bottlenecks involves being able to predict where, when, and why they occur. Concentrations of hungry people create bottlenecks at restaurants during lunch and dinner; concentrations of people moving toward the exit near closing time create bottlenecks in gift shops en route; concentrations of visitors at new and popular rides, and at rides slow to load and unload, create bottlenecks and long lines.

Disneyland Lines

Lines is our mobile application that displays current and future wait times for every attraction in the Disneyland Resort. We currently support the iPhone and Android mobile platforms, with most content also available via any mobile web browser. Disney World Cost Calculator

It’s no secret that one of the biggest considerations when planning your Disney World vacation is how much it will cost.  With so many things contributing to the price of the trip , it’s easy to get overwhelmed or forget to account for something.  With that in mind, we offer our Disney World Cost Calculator to help simplify the process for you.

Our Disney Cost Calculator automatically figures in the costs of items directly under Disney’s control, such as tickets and hotel rooms.  But there are some prices we’ll have to ask you directly for, such as what you expect to pay for flights, or how much you’ll be spending on lodging if you’re staying somewhere other than Disney’s hotels.

Our tool is a great way to get a general estimate on the cost of your Disney vacation.  But for the most accurate price based on your exact travel plans, you’ll want to get in touch with a travel agent who specializes in the Walt Disney World Resort, such as The Vacationeer .

Note: the calculator assumes everyone is staying in the same hotel room; if your group is large enough to need multiple rooms, you’ll want to separate the group and run the calculator once for each of the rooms.

Want to see your exact price?

Our calculator is a great first step towards figuring out how much your Disney World vacation will cost.  If you like the numbers you’ve seen so far, it’s time to take the next step in planning your trip by getting an exact quote.

Contact the Disney World experts at The Vacationeer .  Their team of 90+ Authorized Disney Vacation Planners can provide you with an exact price quote for your vacation and discuss payment plan options .

It won’t cost you anything extra to use their services, and there’s never any obligation to book.

What does the trip cost calculator’s estimate include?

Our Disney World Cost calculator factors in these items when providing you with an estimated Disney vacation cost:

Time of year

We factor seasonal pricing into your estimated costs, based on the general time of year you expect to travel to Disney World.  This primarily affects the cost of hotel rooms and Disney theme park tickets.

Theme park ticket prices

We calculate estimated prices of Walt Disney World theme park tickets, based on how many days you’ll go to the Disney World parks, whether you’re upgrading your tickets to include the Park Hopper option, how many Adult and Child theme park tickets are needed, and seasonal pricing for the general time of year you expect to travel to Disney.

Hotel costs

For Disney World Hotels , our calculator factors in an estimated cost based on the general time of year you expect to visit, how long you’re staying, and whether you’ll be staying in a Value, Moderate or Deluxe Resort, or in one of the Disney Deluxe Villas.

For offsite hotels (those not located on Disney World property), we ask you to directly enter the nightly cost of your hotel so we can include that amount in the estimated final total expenses.

Transportation to and from Disney World

For those traveling b y plane , we ask you to directly enter the cost of your flight to Orlando so we can include it in the final total.  We also factor in the estimated cost of ground transportation from the Orlando International Airport to Disney World based on your input.

For those who are traveling by car , we ask you to directly enter the driving distance between your home and Disney World.  That allows our calculator to factor in an estimated travel cost (based on average gas mileage and average fuel cost) when calculating your total vacation cost estimate.

Parking fees

If you indicate you’ll be driving, we’ll factor in the cost of Disney’s parking fees .

Disney Dining Plans are currently suspended ( returning 2024 ).  In the meantime, we ask you to tell us your general plans for Disney World dining (such as if you expect to have a table service meal on most days, or if you’ll bring your own food ); we use that information to factor an estimated cost of food and drink into your overall estimated trip price.

Possible discounts

For those who indicate they qualify for some of the most common Disney discounts, we factor those savings into the overall total estimated vacation costs.

What is not included in the Disney World cost calculation?

There are a few things that we don’t try to account for in our calculator when providing an estimated cost of your Disney World trip.  Some of these are simply impractical to provide in the calculator, and others are left out because they don’t apply to everyone (so be sure to budget for them separately if you plan to include them in your vacation).

Exact costs based on your exact dates of travel and room/ticket type

Our tool provides a range of estimated average costs based on some general information you provide.  For an exact quote, you’ll need to do some further research or contact a travel agent specializing in Disney.

  • Hotel rates vary on a nightly basis. Different hotels within the same category of resort can have different prices for the same night.  Some rooms charge a premium based on view. Prices for the exact same room on the exact same night can vary depending on how soon or how late you book. With that in mind, our calculator factors in an estimated average cost, but cannot produce an exact cost.
  • Theme park tickets are priced based on a demand calendar, so different days have different pricing. Also, each park is priced differently; February 13 at EPCOT is priced differently than February 13 at Magic Kingdom.  Our calculator uses an estimated average cost based on the time of year and price range among the parks, but does not produce an exact cost.

Multiple hotel rooms

Our Disney calculator presumes that everyone will be staying in a single hotel room.  If you have a larger travel party, this may not be possible.  While Disney World does have some Disney Deluxe Villa accommodations that hold a large number of people, most regular rooms hold 4-5 people.  If you need more than one hotel room, you should divide your party up and run the calculator once for each hotel room.

Discretionary Spending

There are plenty of options to spend “just a little more” inside a Disney World theme park or around the area.  Each individual item isn’t necessarily that expensive, but they can add up over the length of your vacation.  For example, Disney Genie+ and individual Lightning Lane access allows you to avoid some of the lines for rides.  You might want souvenirs like a pair of Mickey Mouse ears or a Walt Disney World t-shirt.  Or perhaps you’ll play some mini golf while you’re here.  If you think you’ll purchase any of these, don’t forget to pad your budget accordingly.

Non-Disney experiences

Ticket purchases for days in non-Disney theme parks — such as Universal , SeaWorld, LegoLand, FunSpot, Gatorland, Kennedy Space Center, and other Orlando and Central Florida attractions — are not included.  If you plan to spend a day or more outside of the parks, factor those costs separately from the total we show you here.  Also, note that this calculator is optimized specifically for Disney World in Florida; it is not programmed for Disneyland in California, which has its own rates for hotels and tickets.

How can I calculate the exact price of my vacation?

If you want to go beyond the estimates we provide here and figure out the exact cost of a vacation, you have a few options:

Research each component of your Disney World Vacation separately

Our articles How to Plan a Disney Vacation and How Much Does it Cost to Go to Disney World cover information about each of the major price factors you’ll need to budget for.  Using those lists as a guide, you can then visit the Disney World website to get specific prices for tickets , hotels , dining , recreation, tours, and more all based on your exact travel plans.  Don’t forget to factor in crowd levels and make a note of when you’re able to begin actually making dining reservations .

Let a travel agent handle your Disney World Planning

If you’d rather not do all of the leg work yourself, you can always enlist the completely-free services of a travel agent who specializes in Disney .  We’ve extensively covered why you should use a Disney travel planner in the past, but as a quick reminder:

  • Most agents don’t charge a planning fee for their services.
  • The trip won’t cost more than if you’d booked on your own; you might even find it’s cheaper !
  • They know all the tips and tricks, including any Disney discounts you might not be aware of.
  • They’ll provide you with an exact price quote based on your travel preferences, with no obligation to book .
  • Your travel agent will make all of your Disney reservations for you, so there’s no getting up early, waiting on hold for hours, or struggling with websites.
  • A good Disney travel agent will monitor your reservations after they’ve been booked, and automatically apply new discounts as they become available.

We believe The Vacationeer is the best Disney travel agency .  Their team includes more than 90 travel agents who specialize in all things Disney — get in touch with them now for a free quote:

Does Disney World offer a payment plan?

It’s no secret that going to Disney World can come with a bit of a sticker shock.  When you combine the price of hotels, tickets, food, and everything else, it’s likely your trip will cost at least a few thousand dollars.

That’s a lot of money to come up with all at once.  Fortunately, Disney World offers very flexible payment arrangements for their vacation packages.

In most cases, all that’s required to make your Disney reservations is a small deposit of $200.

Once you’ve made your deposit, you can pay Disney on any schedule you like, as long as you’re paid in full by 30 days prior to your vacation.  There are no minimum payments, and there are no payment milestones that Disney requires to be met prior to the date that final payment is due.

Note that this payment plan is offered only for Disney World Hotels, and for any Disney theme park tickets that are bundled into your Disney hotel vacation package.  If you’re not staying on-site at Disney World, any tickets you purchase will have to be paid in full at the time of purchase.  Ticket costs also have to be paid in full if you’re buying them separately from your Disney hotel reservation.

It also goes without saying that the costs of anything you’re not buying from Disney itself cannot be bundled into a Disney payment plan.  Tickets for non-Disney theme parks, airline tickets, off-site hotels, ground transportation from the airport, and other third-party services would be subject to whatever payment options those providers offer.

You might be able to pay your off-site hotel over time, but it’s reasonable to expect to pay in full (or at least charge the full amount to your credit card) for plane tickets, ground transportation, and non-Disney theme park tickets.

How can I budget for my visit to Disney World?

The fact that Disney allows you to essentially make your own payment plan for your vacation is great, but it also means that a big part of your Disney World planning is figuring out how to budget for your vacation; Disney is not going to tell you that you must pay a certain amount each month.

Our Disney trip cost calculator will give you a range of what you can expect to spend to go to Disney World, but it’s up to you to break that down into a reasonable method to save up that amount.

The most simple way to decide how much to budget for your vacation is to take the estimated cost from our calculator and then divide it by the number of months between now and your vacation’s start date.  Or, you might determine how many times you’ll get a paycheck between now and then, and divide by that number instead.

You might need to further adjust those smaller payments to account for bigger sums you might be able to apply towards your vacation (such as a tax refund or holiday bonus), or to make up for months when you might not be able to pay Disney as much as you’d like (perhaps due to seasonal employment changes).

Of course, breaking your vacation expenses down into smaller amounts is only part of the equation.  You also need to be able to actually come up with that money.  There are plenty of ways to find extra cash or adjust your vacation plans slightly so they’re more affordable.  Even making slight adjustments to your Disney World food costs or hotel plans can make a significant difference.  We offer 9 tips for cutting costs to get you started with saving on Disney.

Final Thoughts

Planning a visit to Disney requires budgeting for a number of factors.  Not only are there the obvious expenses like Disney park tickets, but there are also expenses that might not be so obvious, like parking fees and ground transportation.  Luckily, there are plenty of ways to save on your Disney World vacation . And with proper planning for each of these costs well in advance of your stay, you can make sure that your visit to Disney doesn’t become a financial burden.  That’s why we created this tool; we want to make sure everyone who wants to go to Disney knows how much it’ll cost and doesn’t wind up with any nasty financial surprises along the way!

To give yourself extra protection against overlooking an important cost or overpaying for something when there’s a better deal to be found, we recommend you work with an expert.

Disneyland is one of those rare places that offers fun and entertainment for everyone, from bright-eyed kids to well-traveled adults. A visit is on every kid's wishlist and planning a trip to The Happiest Place on Earth is a rite of passage for every parent.

From figuring out the type of tickets to buy, knowing where to stay and how to get around, and avoiding long lines, a lot goes into creating a seamless experience on your trip to Disneyland. Lucky for you, we've done all the research to help you make those decisions.

Here's everything you need to know about booking a trip to Disneyland.

How to start planning a Disneyland vacation

Although a Disneyland vacation won't require as much planning as Disney World , a little organization can create a more enjoyable experience.

If the planning process is still overwhelming, you can actually hire professionals to do it for you, free of charge. TPG's Summer Hull and Richard Kerr have both utilized Mouse Counselors to plan their Disney vacations and both of them swear by it.

The planning service is free because the planners make their money via commissions paid out by Disneyland. All you have to do is submit a request for a quote and they'll plan your entire vacation. They'll even look for discounts, so you get the best deal possible.

Choosing the best hotel for your Disneyland vacation

There are many hotel options for your Disneyland vacation, depending on your budget and needs. You can pay a premium to stay on-site (which includes some added perks), or you can stay at a more budget-friendly off-site hotel within walking distance of the park that lets you book with, or earn, points.

Below is an overview of the best hotel options near Disneyland.

Disneyland hotels

Disneyland operates three on-site hotels. The main benefit of staying at a Disneyland resort is proximity to the parks, Early Entry (admission to the parks 30 minutes before it opens to the public), preferred dining reservation access, character wake-up calls and more.

Rates at Disneyland properties tend to be quite a bit higher than at off-site hotels. Disney does offer seasonal discounts and sales during lower-demand times of the year that can reduce the cost.

Operating since 1955, the Disneyland Hotel is the first and oldest property within the Disneyland Resort. The hotel had a minor renovation in 2021 and is next to the Downtown Disney shopping district.

Standard rooms typically go for around $500 to $650 per night.

If you want a slightly more upscale experience in a better location, look no further than Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa . The hotel is behind California Adventure Park and offers guests an exclusive entrance to the park.

disneyland trip cost calculator

While rates at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa start at around $700, they can creep up as high as $1,000 per night for a standard room during peak times.

Across from the Grand Californian, Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel is the cheapest Disneyland hotel option. Rooms are usually priced in the $400 to $450 range and the resort also has a private entrance to Disney California Adventure Park. The hotel is currently undergoing construction and will reopen as Pixar Place Hotel in the coming months.

Disneyland Good Neighbor hotels you can book with points

There are currently 58 designated Good Neighbor hotels near Disneyland. These are hotels recommended by Disneyland for offering convenient locations and overall value. Many of these hotels can be booked with points; at some, you'll even find special deals and packages.

Related: Where to stay at Disneyland: On vs. off-property hotel comparison

Hyatt has three hotels near Disneyland and all of them are designated Good Neighbor properties. As of August 2023, all three properties are Category 4 hotels, with standard awards requiring 15,000 Hyatt points and off-peak awards available for 12,000 points. Alternatively, use an annual free night award from your World of Hyatt Credit Card.

The Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort Convention Center is the closest to the park entrance, just a block away. I stayed here three years ago and found the rooms spacious enough to accommodate three kids and two adults. Our room had a small living area separate from the bedroom and a pull-out couch for an extra person.

Everyone gets free breakfast regardless of Hyatt elite status , which is great for families. Overall, this is a solid choice for a Disneyland hotel.

The nearby Hyatt Place is a block farther, and it's a good option if you want a slightly cheaper limited-service hotel offering free breakfast. Room rates tend to be $20 to $50 cheaper than the Hyatt House when paying cash.

If you want a more upscale experience and don't need to be within walking distance of the park, the Hyatt Regency Orange County is the way to go. The hotel is in the Anaheim Resort area, about 2 miles from the hotel. For families needing more space, you can also opt for a Kids Suite starting at 21,000 points per night. The Kids Suite offers a king bed, bunk beds for the kids, and a microwave and fridge for those late-night snacks.

The Hyatt Regency Orange County operates a shuttle to Disneyland every half-hour. The cost is $6 per person per day and free for kids 3 and under. You can often find package deals that include shuttle service for four as well as parking and a Disney-centric welcome amenity.

IHG has five hotels near Disneyland, three of which have the Good Neighbor designation. The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Anaheim Resort Area is a Good Neighbor property and is the closest of them all; it sits about a 10-minute walk from the park entrance. Award rates fluctuate wildly and can sometimes be as high as 50,000-65,000 points per night, so it's sometimes a better value to book this property with cash.

disneyland trip cost calculator

Marriott has 11 Good Neighbor hotels near Disneyland. The closest properties to the park entrance are the Fairfield Inn by Marriott Anaheim Resort and the Courtyard by Marriott Anaheim Theme Park Entrance . The Fairfield Inn charges anywhere from 34,000 to 59,000 points for an award night.

Depending on the date of your stay, you can redeem your up to 35,000-point certificate from the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card or the annual up to 50,000-point award from the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card. This could be a great redemption, considering the hotel can go for more than $250 per night at peak times.

The Courtyard is a higher-end hotel with a water park requiring 68,000 to 98,000 points per night.

Hilton has a whopping 12 Good Neighbor Hotels in the Disneyland area, although quite a few are not within reasonable walking distance.

For the best location, you'll want to consider the Home2 Suites by Hilton Anaheim Resort or the Hilton Garden Inn Anaheim Resort. These two hotels occupy a single shared building, which is nearly right across from the park entrance.

The Home2 Suites tends to be the better value of the two even though it usually costs a bit more, as it includes free breakfast. Additionally, a standard two-queen studio room at this hotel sleeps up to six, offering two queen beds, a sofa bed and a full kitchen. Even though the award rate is steep at 60,000, it could be worth it since most families will need just one room. That being said, TPG values Hilton points at 0.6 cents each, so it's generally not a good idea to redeem points unless standard rates are at least $360 per night.

The SunCoast Hotel is the next closest option, less than a mile from the park entrance. It's a doable walk, or you can opt to take the Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) bus that stops outside the property. The SunCoast is a Tapestry Collection property offering beautiful, light-filled rooms with bright pops of color to give you that Disney vibe.

Types of Disneyland tickets

disneyland trip cost calculator

There are multiple types of Disneyland tickets available. The type of ticket you should get depends on factors like which park(s) you want to visit and for how long, how often you plan on visiting Disneyland and your budget.

Disneyland tickets fall into seven tiers (Tier 0 through 6). Tier 6 is unrestricted, and the remaining tiers are subject to increasing blackout dates . Before you purchase a ticket, be sure to check the theme park calendar for park reservation availability.

Let's take a look at each option.

Single-day tickets

Disneyland's single-day tickets range from $104 to $179 per day and provide admission to one park only (either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure). Disney classifies children as those aged 3 to 9 (and offers a slight discount on child rates); it classifies adults as those 10 and older. Children 2 and younger do not need a ticket.

Related: How to make a reservation at Disneyland

Ticket prices vary per day based on demand. You can search the ticket calendar to see prices on the day(s) you plan to visit.

Multiday tickets

Multiday tickets are a good option if you want to visit Disneyland parks for several days, with per-day prices being discounted the more days you add on. Two-day tickets cost $285 (an average cost of $142.50 per day), and five-day tickets cost $83 per day.

Multiday tickets get you into both Disneyland and California Adventure — but not on the same day. You'll need to stick to a single park per day.

Park Hopper

Park Hopper tickets allow you to visit Disneyland and Disney California Adventure on the same day. You can add this option to any multiday ticket for $60 per ticket or single-day tickets for $65. These tickets are ideal if you want ultimate flexibility in the attractions you visit in a day. The 1-Day Park Hopper tickets are especially ideal if you want to experience both parks on a short timeline.

Note that Disneyland currently only allows guests to park hop at 11 a.m. or later.

Magic Key (annual pass)

Disneyland also offers Magic Keys, which are annual passes. Passes are limited in number, so not all pass types are always on sale. Prices range from $449 to $1,599.

Disneyland ticket discounts

While Disneyland tickets can be pricey, there are several ways you can save money. Some discounts are exclusive to members of specific groups and may be limited to certain times of year, while others are open to the public.

Here's a look at common Disneyland ticket discounts:

California residents: California residents living within qualifying zip codes can sometimes purchase special multiday discount tickets for as little as $83 per day. Disneyland tends to offer these tickets to Southern California residents in spring and to all California residents in summer and early fall, but these offers are not guaranteed. Proof of residence and a valid government ID are required for purchase.

Military discounts: Qualifying military personnel can purchase three-day Disneyland Park Hopper Tickets for $245 and 4-day Park Hopper tickets for $280.

There is a limit of six discounted tickets and blackout dates apply. These tickets are available to active or retired military members, including the National Guard, Reservists and the U.S. Coast Guard.

AAA: AAA members can save on multiday Disneyland tickets, including Park Hopper tickets. However, the savings are not as big as advertised because AAA tacks a fee onto the final purchase page. Membership fees vary, ranging from $56 to $119.

CityPASS: CityPASS offers Disneyland ticket discounts ranging from $5 to $26 , depending on your ticket type.

Undercover Tourist: Undercover Tourist is a tried and true way to save on Disneyland tickets. The site currently offers discounts ranging from $7 to $33 per ticket.

Get Away Today: Get Away Today is another travel agency that specializes in Disneyland travel and offers discount tickets as well. Get Away Today will always price-match the best deals you may find elsewhere.

Best time to visit Disneyland

The best time to visit Disneyland depends on a variety of factors.

For the best experience, you'll want to avoid school holidays, weekends and major ride openings. Late summer and early fall tend to be less crowded, but the weather in August and September can be excessively warm (although never as hot as Walt Disney World in Florida).

A great way to plan the best time to visit Disneyland is to check your desired travel dates against the IsItPacked crowd calendar . The calendar considers all of the previously mentioned factors to generate a crowd forecast.

How to reduce your time in line at Disneyland

Disneyland may be The Happiest Place on Earth, but it's not immune to long, stressful lines. That's especially true on weekends, holidays and when it comes to popular attractions.

Start at the back of the park and move your way up front

If you arrive just before the park opens, a good strategy to avoid crowds is to start at the back of the park and move your way forward. Many visitors (especially those with kids) will get caught up in the crowd-control mechanism near the entrance — character meetings, retail shops — before making their way to the rides closest to their path.

You can beat the crowds by moving in the opposite direction. The same goes with mealtimes: Plan to eat before or after the noon rush, and you won't encounter crazy long lines. You might also find shorter wait times at your favorite rides while most guests are preoccupied with lunch.

disneyland trip cost calculator

Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes

Disney Genie+ (along with a related service, Individual Lightning Lane) allows Disneyland guests to skip the standby line on many of the park's most popular attractions. The Disney Genie+ service starts at $25 per person per day and allows you to make Lightning Lane reservations throughout the day. You can make your first reservation after you enter the park and then subsequent reservations as you redeem each one or after two hours pass (whichever comes first).

Related: How I maxed out Disneyland's Genie+ and rode 26 attractions in a single day

You'll also get unlimited photo downloads from all attraction photos and those taken by PhotoPass photographers; and you'll receive features like audio tales and AR photo lenses to help you pass the time waiting in line.

There are a few attractions that do not participate in the Disney Genie+ service, but most of these attractions nevertheless have Lightning Lanes. You need to purchase an Individual Lightning Lane reservation (sold separately) to skip the line for these select attractions. Pricing ranges between $15 and $25 per person per attraction, and you can purchase up to two attractions per day. The current list of attractions participating in each program is available on Disneyland's website .

Early Entry

Guests staying at Disneyland resorts can enter either park 30 minutes before they open to the public. This is worth taking into consideration when making your hotel reservations since an extra 30 minutes before park opening means virtually no lines.

Use the Disney app

The Disneyland mobile app is key to a seamless Disneyland experience. Aside from storing your park tickets, the app helps users book restaurant reservations, make Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane reservations, order meals to-go on mobile and see wait times for rides.

The Disney app can be an invaluable tool in avoiding lines for rides and restaurants, allowing you to enjoy your limited time at the park.

disneyland trip cost calculator

Use the Ridemax app

If you want to avoid lines like a pro, consider downloading and subscribing to Ridemax . The app creates a custom itinerary for you based on the rides you choose and the amount of time you plan on spending at the park, to minimize wait times. A 90-day subscription costs $14.95, while an annual one costs $24.95.

There's also a 30-day money-back guarantee, so if it is not as helpful as you'd hoped, you can get a full refund.

How to save money on your Disneyland trip

There are many ways to save money on your Disneyland trip, whether it's getting discounted park tickets or deals on your hotel bookings.

We'd be remiss to start the money-saving portion of this guide without mentioning points. Whether it's your airfare, hotel or park tickets, you can use points to offset a large chunk of your Disneyland vacation. Disneyland has lots of point hotels starting at just 12,000 points per night for off-peak awards at any of the area Hyatt hotels.

With the 60,000-point sign-up bonus from the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card (after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening), you could cover up to five nights at one of these hotels.

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is another great option for earning and redeeming miles towards a Disneyland trip. The card currently offers 75,000 bonus miles when you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.

All you have to do is charge your Disneyland hotel or vacation package to the card and then redeem miles toward the expense. And if you don't quite have enough miles now, you have up to 90 days after purchase to save and redeem miles toward a travel expense.

Check for package deals

You can save a lot on your Disneyland vacation by booking a package deal through a site like Get Away Today . For example, a four-night stay in September in a one-bedroom suite at the Element by Westin Anaheim Resort Convention Center with three-day park hopper tickets for a family of four will cost $3,297.88 when booked with Disney directly.

disneyland trip cost calculator

Through Get Away Today, the same package deal costs $2,682.53.

disneyland trip cost calculator

Costco is currently offering Disneyland travel packages that include savings on on-property Disneyland hotels and a Disney gift card:

  • Stay two to four nights and receive a $185 Disney Gift Card
  • Stay five nights and receive a $205 Disney Gift Card
  • Stay six nights and receive a $225 Disney Gift Card
  • Stay seven or more nights and receive a $245 Disney Gift Card

Buy Disney gift cards on sale

Buying Disney gift cards can save you about 5-10% on the cost of food and merchandise at Disneyland hotels. Sam's Club, Staples, Target and Safeway occasionally discount the price of Disney gift cards by about 5%. Add cash back bonuses and savings from a card that earns bonus points at grocery and office supply stores , and the savings will stack up.

I've personally had success using my Chase Ink Plus Business card (card no longer available) to buy Disney gift cards at Staples, stacking the savings with 5% cash back through Dosh (Note: I will earn a $10 referral if you sign up with my link and make your first qualifying purchase).

The information for the Chase Ink Plus Business Card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Bring your own swag

If you're taking your kids to Disneyland, buy all your swag ahead of time. Everything is incredibly overpriced at the park, and there's no reason to spend $30 on mouse ears when you can find equally cute ones on Etsy or Amazon for $5.99. The same goes for all trinkets and toys that end up in a forgotten pile somewhere.

Related: 7 Reasons why Disneyland is better than Disney World

You might feel sentimental about bringing back a $40 snow globe, but trust me: The memories you make are more important (and lasting) than the overpriced merchandise you buy at the park.

How to get around Disneyland

Unlike the sprawling Disney World resort, Disneyland is easy to get around on foot. But if you get tired after a day of park hopping, you can take various modes of transportation around the park. The Disneyland Railroad offers an 18-minute ride with stops at Main Street, New Orleans Square, Mickey's Toontown and Tomorrowland.

The high-flying Monorail is great if you want a faster way to get around the park. The Monorail makes the 2.5-mile journey through the area in just 13 minutes, stopping in Tomorrowland and the far end of Downtown Disney.

For a slow, fun ride, you can hop aboard one of Disney's Main Street Vehicles near City Hall and Central Plaza. They include the Jitney, a horse-drawn streetcar, the classic fire engine and omnibus.

Over at California Adventure, the Red Car Trolley makes four convenient stops throughout the already walkable park.

The best credit cards to use at Disneyland

disneyland trip cost calculator

You may be surprised to find that the Disney Visa Card isn't among the best cards to use at Disneyland, though it can be a good option if you're looking to finance a Disney vacation. The best cards for booking Disneyland packages will be ones that earn bonus points on travel , like the Chase Sapphire Reserve . You'll earn 3 points per dollar and use your $300 annual travel credit to offset part of the expense.

When it comes to spending at Disneyland theme parks, you'll want to use a card that earns bonus points on dining . The Citi Prestige® Card (card no longer available) is a great option, as it earns 5 points per dollar spent in this category. The American Express® Gold Card is also a great choice, earning 4 points per dollar at restaurants.

The information for the Citi Prestige card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Bottom line

While it's not as large as its Florida counterpart, Disneyland does require some planning. This guide should make the process of planning your Disneyland adventure a little easier.

disneyland trip cost calculator

One of the biggest Disney planning questions is how much does a Disney vacation cost? Unfortunately, there are so many variables this question is hard to answer.

That’s part of the reason I put together this Disney World cost calculator for you.

I think we all know by now that a Disney World vacation is EXPENSIVE. Just how expensive depends on a lot of different factors. And these factors are different for absolutely everyone.

If you want an accurate idea of how much YOUR Disney vacation will cost, you need a Disney trip calculator. But more on that later.

First, let’s look at the factors to determine how much a Disney vacation costs. I highly recommend that you read through this Disney vacation planning guide. It gives you a comprehensive breakdown of exactly what goes into planning a Disney trip.

This in turn, helps you to begin to choose the details that allow you to estimate Disney trip costs.

Table of Contents

Disney World Cost Calculator Factors

We’re going to look in much more detail at these factors, but here’s the short version. The choices you make in each of these categories determines the overall cost of your trip.

The good news: there are many ways you can play around with these answers to change the cost of your trip. If planning a trip to Disney World on a budget is your goal, than this post holds your answers.

Here are your Disney World cost calculator factors:

  • Time of year
  • Getting to Florida/Transportation costs
  • Type of hotel
  • Type of Disney park ticket
  • Dining and snacks
  • Souvenirs and incidentals

Now, let’s get into the nitty gritty of exactly how these factors come into play.

Disney World Cost Calculator: Time of Year

Really, when you think about it, this factor right here will determine the price of pretty much everything else that follows.

The time of year you choose to go to Disney impacts the cost of hotels and park tickets, two of the largest expenses.

Disney breaks the year up according to price. During times of the year that attendance is a little bit lower the prices tend to follow suit. Common lower cost months tend to be January, February, end of August, and September.

If there’s a school break, expect higher crowds and higher prices.

I have a guide that goes into more detail about deciding the best time of year to go to Disney . Take a look at that and make your decision from there.

Another Factor: Length of Trip

Clearly, the number of days you plan to be in Disney directly impacts just how expensive the trip will be. Once you decide on your budget, playing around with the length of the trip is one of the easiest ways to manipulate the total cost.

Do you want to stay longer with a lower resort category or have a shorter trip with deluxe accommodations? There’s no wrong answer to that question. Just the right answer for your family.

Disney World Cost Calculator: Getting to Florida

Here’s the tricky one. We all live different distances from Disney World. This expense will clearly vary dramatically depending on many factors.

I highly recommend utilizing as many tricks as you can to reduce the overall cost of travel to Orlando.

Flying is clearly the most frequent way to get to Orlando, and can cost a small fortune. Again, there are so many factors that go into this cost, like airline, family size, geographic location, etc.

Do your research regarding what the best options are from your local airports. Many people gravitate towards Spirit and Allegiant for their rock bottom prices. However, there are trade offs for flying on a budget airline.

I’ve had two different family members have significant problems flying Allegiant recently. And my best friend flies Spirit all the time and loves it. So think about what you can and can’t tolerate.

We prefer to fly Southwest anytime we go to Orlando. It helps that I’ve used my credit card rewards to fly for free for the past 3+ years. This is one of the ways that I’ve significantly cut down on the cost of our trips to Disney.

Southwest also seems to have some of the best prices around to boot. Plus no additional charges for luggage.

If you want to try this, use my Southwest referral link . Then we’ll both get a bonus!

Getting from the Airport to Your Hotel

Unfortunately for all of us, Disney discontinued the Magical Express service, which provided free airport transportation from Orlando Airport.

Consequently, this is now an additional cost to factor in for anyone flying into Orlando.

Some new airport transportation options have popped up as replacements for Magical Express. Two of these options still involve a charter bus and are probably the most economical.

To find out more about your choices, read all about Disney airport transportation .

Sunshine Flyer charter bus sitting in front of Grand Floridian Resort

Taking a nice long drive is probably the most cost effective way to get to Disney World. Of course, the overall cost depends on gas prices at the time and whether you need to stay overnight at a hotel.

Frankly, with the way gas prices have been over the past several months, this option is no longer so cheap.

Now, I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but long drives aren’t all that bad. We drove from PA to Florida for years. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not exactly fun, but it’s tolerable. Especially if the trade off is a Disney vacation.

To get an estimate of how much money you should expect to spend on gas, use the following equation:

(Miles to Orlando/Miles per gallon of vehicle) x gas price per gallon = Total gas cost estimate

Here how that looks for the drive from our house right now, one way.

(1181/19) x 3.35 = $208.23

Clearly, that’s much cheaper than plane tickets for a family of four.

If you are planning to make a road trip out of it, don’t forget to factor in the cost of food and any necessary hotels along the way.

Parking Fees

If you decide to either rent a car or drive your own, be aware of the parking fees at the resorts and the parks. Disney resort guests get complimentary parking at all 4 Disney parks.

However, offsite park guests are charged $25 a day. Clearly, that can add up depending on how many park days you have.

But don’t worry, Disney found a way to ding the resort guests too! Disney began charging a parking fee at each of the Disney resorts. The fee varies based on the resort category:

  • Value Resort: $15/night
  • Moderate Resorts: $20/night
  • Deluxe Resorts: $25/night

Disney Vacation Club members have an exception to the parking fee in some situations (staying at a DVC deluxe villa with points, using points at other Disney World resorts).

To calculate your parking fees, at either the parks or the resorts, use the following equation:

Daily/Nightly parking fee x Number of days/nights = Total Parking Fees

The parking fee itself depends on whether you’re a Disney resort guest or not. Let’s do an example for a Disney moderate resort guest on a 6 night trip.

$20 x 6 = $120

If you are staying at an offsite hotel, check to see if it has any parking fees, just to be safe.

And for those who are staying offsite and need to pay for parking at the parks, don’t forget to multiply your number of park days by $25.

Disney World Cost Calculator: Type of Hotel

disneyland trip cost calculator

The type of hotel, and the location, has a significant impact on your overall Disney vacation cost. There are a few different decisions you’ll need to make.

First, you need to decide whether you want to stay at a Disney resort or at a hotel in Orlando. I put together a guide looking at the pros and cons of staying on or off Disney property .

Needless to say, it’s significantly cheaper to stay at a hotel that’s off Disney property. However, there are some tradeoffs that you should consider, so take a look at the post I linked to above.

If you decide you definitely want to stay at a Disney resort, make sure you understand the differences between the Disney resort categories .

The resort categories are Value, Moderate, and Deluxe. As you can see just by the names, the prices range dramatically between all of the categories.

The formula to figure out your hotel costs are pretty self explanatory, but let’s do a formula anyway!

Average Nightly Cost of Hotel x Number of Nights + Resort Fee = Total Hotel Cost

Notice that resort fee I added into the equation. At this point in time, Disney does not charge any sort of resort fee at any of their resorts.

However, this is not the case for many of the Orlando hotels. Always look at the fine print when it comes to resort fees. Sometimes, the resort fee closes the price gap compared to a Disney resort more than you would think.

Disney World Cost Calculator: Park Tickets

And here we come to the crux of the cost of a Disney vacation. Disney park tickets are EXPENSIVE. Notice I put that in all capital letters. Park tickets take up a sizable portion of your Disney vacation budget.

I highly recommend you understand the different Disney park ticket options . The type of ticket you choose can change the cost of your trip by several hundred dollars.

The bottom line is, if you want to save as much money as possible, get the standard one park per day ticket. If you want maximum flexibility, the Park Hopper ticket is your friend, but you’ll pay extra for that privilege.

You can also play around with the number of park days you plan to have. This allows you to adjust the cost to fit your Disney vacation budget.

However, it generally works out that the more park days you have, the less you’ll pay per day.

For example, I decided to get 7 day park hopper tickets for a trip instead of 5 day tickets. The price difference was only $20 per person.

For that $20 a person I decided to give us the ultimate flexibility of being able to pop into a park on any day of our trip.

If you want to buy discount Disney park tickets, then Undercover Tourist is your answer . They are an authorized Disney ticket seller and I’ve used them many times myself.

They are 100% legit and will save you a nice chunk of change.

Disney World Cost Calculator: Dining Choices

The amount one family spends on dining at Disney World will vary widely compared to another family. Really, your food expenses at Disney can be as cheap or as expensive as you want them to be.

There is that much wiggle room.

In general, if you want to spend less on dining, stick with all quick service restaurants, bring your own snacks, and eat breakfast in your hotel room.

If you want to explore the many delicious sit down restaurants at Disney, plan to spend quite a bit more.

In case you’re interested, I have a whole guide full of tips for how to eat at Disney World on a budget . Yes, I really did take a trip where I spent $35 a day on food!

Tip: If you want to save money on food, DO NOT buy the Disney Dining Plan (when it’s actually available again). As much as people like to think it saves money, it rarely does.

But how do you estimate your food budget? Here is a breakdown of price ranges for the different types of meals:

  • Quick Service meals: $10-$25 per person
  • Table Service meals: $20-$60 per person
  • Signature dining: $30-70+
  • Snacks: $5-$9 per snack

Clearly, this is a bit of a rough estimate, but it will give you a jumping off point.

The other option is to determine approximately how much you feel comfortable spending per person, per day and go from there (i.e. $50 per day for adults, $30 per day for kids).

Once you have that number you can choose dining options that help keep you at that goal.

Disney World Cost Calculator: Souvenirs and Incidentals

This one is really a big old question mark. Mainly because you just don’t know what will come up during your trip. Trust me, I didn’t plan on buying that tiny package of exorbitantly expensive bandaids on our last trip…

Disney World is a souvenir paradise, or purgatory, depending on your view. There are so many different stores filled with very cool souvenirs.

It is extremely easy to go massively over budget once you get there. Temptation is everywhere.

I highly recommend identifying the amount of money you are willing to spend on souvenirs per person before you even leave your house. It just makes it easier once you’re there.

Then add a little cushion to that number to cover the things you don’t ever think about needing. Like bandaids.

Maybe consider giving each member of the family a Disney gift card preloaded with the amount they are allotted for the trip. This allows each person to know just how much they have left, and allows them to make decisions on what to buy.

Disney World Cost Calculator: Real Life Example for Family of 4

Now that we’ve talked about some vague examples, I wanted to give you the calculations for a recent trip we took. This will give you an idea of both how to create your Disney vacation budget as well as get an idea of how much a Disney vacation costs.

Here’s a summary:

  • 6 night stay for a family of four
  • This is a road trip example (amount includes gas, overnight hotels, Disney resort parking fee)
  • Dining involved mainly quick service, 2 table service meals, and a whole lot of Food and Wine Festival snacks
  • Full disclosure: we actually used our Disney Vacation Club points for the resort, but this example resort price is the actual cost for another trip I have coming up
  • Park ticket is a 7 day standard park ticket

So what’s the difference between my estimated cost and what I actually paid? Some Disney (and travel) saving hacks.

This breakdown shows that while still expensive, it is possible to eke out some savings on your Disney vacation.

I paid for some of the dining with a combination of discounted Disney gift cards and Disney Visa rewards points (that link includes a sign on bonus). I could have saved more than the $118 that I did, but I went conservative when buying the gift cards. Foolish!

For the resort stay, I activated a Disney discount that was released after I originally booked my stay. It’s important to keep an eye on the Disney World discounts for this exact reason!

In my road trip expenses, I used my Capital One travel rewards to cover the cost of the overnight hotels on each leg of the trip. The Capital One Venture card is my FAVORITE travel rewards card. I’ve saved so much on travel over the years I’ve had it.

If you want one, sign up with my Capital One referral link and you’ll get a sign on bonus too (between 50,000 and 100,000 miles)!

Because we typically fly free on points with Southwest, we actually would have saved money had we flown, but we were going to Florida for an extended stay on this particular trip so we drove.

Now that we’ve taken a look at my real life example of how much a Disney trip costs, let’s talk about this handy dandy Disney World budget worksheet I have to make this easier for you.

What is this Disney World Cost Calculator?

Basically, it’s the name I came up with for this handy dandy Disney budget calculator I made for you!

I know that printables are all the rage, and they are great! I have quite a few of my own on this site. However, there’s just something nice about allowing a computer do the math for you.

At least I think so. And frankly, I have this complete and utter love of a good spreadsheet.

I know, I’m a dork!

Why not translate my dorkiness into a tool that makes your life easier?

What does the Disney Cost Calculator Do?

The goal of the Disney cost calculator is not only to let you automatically get an idea of your potential Disney trip cost, but to give you options to play around with different category combinations.

With so many different resorts, ways to approach dining, park tickets options, travel options, and more, making a change to any one area can make a huge difference in your overall Disney trip cost.

Disney Trip Cost Calculator Categories

The Disney vacation calculator in it’s original form has a spot for each of the following trip planning categories:

  • Park tickets
  • Airfare/road trip expenses
  • Miscellaneous

Those categories should cover most everything you need. However, if you do need more categories, you can easily add them, or change the name of a heading that you don’t need, like rental car.

Seriously, with the framework in place, you can tailor this however you need it!

Create MULTIPLE Potential Disney Budgets

As I created the Disney cost calculator, I realized, why create just one budget when you can create multiple?

With that in mind, this Disney vacation calculator gives you 5 different areas to test out various combinations of the categories above.

Want to see how much the overall cost changes if you change the resort? Done. Playing around with getting a dining plan versus paying out of pocket? Throw those estimates in there.

By having all of these Disney World cost calculators going, you can see which options in each are the most cost effective. This allows you to easily piece together all those different categories into one final Disney vacation budget spreadsheet.

It’s always a good idea to use a Disney cost estimator in your planning. The more you can minimize any surprise expenses for your trip, the better.

What if I Have a Set Budget to Stay Under?

If you know how much money you are willing to spend on your Disney vacation, a spot for that number is already built in for you!

At the top of the spreadsheet, simply put in the budget you’ve decided you feel comfortable with. For example, let’s say you’ve determined that $4000 is the max amount you want to spend on the trip.

Simply input $4000 into the spot labeled “My Budget”. This amount is now factored into every single Disney World trip cost calculator you see on the page.

At this point, go about adding in the amounts you are researching for resort, tickets and so on. As you plug those numbers in, IT DOES THE MATH FOR YOU! You can see in real time the total cost of the trip so far and the amount of your budget you have left.

This is so useful to help make sure you don’t accidentally go over budget on your spending.

Ideas to Stay Under Budget

If you do have a set budget you want to stay under, here are some quick ideas on how to play around with cost to get it lower.

Some of these I’ve mentioned interspersed throughout this article, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to put them all in one place.

  • Look at Disney value resorts only
  • Book a hotel outside of Disney World
  • Know how to make your dining costs at Disney as low as possible
  • Shorten the number of nights of the trip
  • Do not get park hopper tickets
  • Plan to use discounted Disney gift cards to pay for as much as you can
  • Buy Disney themed souvenirs on Amazon ahead of time
  • Use credit card rewards points to pay for as much as you can

How Do I Get My Disney Cost Calculator?

The great news is, it’s a piece of cake. Simply sign up with any of the forms on this page and it’s yours. As a bonus, you’ll be added to The Disney Journey newsletter.

The newsletter provides you with helpful Disney planning tips and keeps you informed about news that can impact your upcoming Disney trip.

You can also download it as a PDF if you prefer it in printable form!

How to Know EXACTLY How Much You’ll Spend

Now that I’ve rambled on forever about how to use this Disney cost estimator, what if you simply want to know exactly how much the trip will cost you?

My best advice to make all of this easier on you is to enlist the help of an authorized Disney Vacation Planner. Siera at Destinations in Florida is my go-to Disney travel agent.

She would be more than happy to give you a free estimate of your Disney trip cost. Yes that’s right, you get the estimate for free. In fact, you never have to pay for an authorized Disney travel agent to book your trip for you.

Using an authorized Disney Vacation Planner is completely FREE for you.

So, if you’re interested, fill out this inquiry form for Siera to find out just how much your Disney trip would cost.

Trust me, she’s amazing at what she does. If you have more questions about using a travel agent to plan your Disney trip, make sure you read my post all about how to use a Disney travel agent to plan your trip .

That post goes into painstaking detail and also looks at the pros and cons of using a travel agent.

Does Disney World Offer a Payment Plan?

Let’s face it, we all know that this trip is going to be quite pricey. Wanting to pay it down a little at a time over the span of months certainly has an appeal.

But does Disney World offer a payment plan option? The answer is both yes and no.

Disney itself doesn’t have a formal payment plan, however there is a way you can set one up for yourself very simply.

I’m breaking this down into two categories because the details are slightly different, but the process is the same.

Resort Only Guests

This category applies to people who book a Disney World resort with no park tickets or bundle. You simply booked your hotel room through Disney.

For these guests, you’ll have to pay a deposit that’s equal to the cost of one night of your trip immediately upon booking.

The rest of the balance isn’t due until check-in. Yes, you read that right: you don’t have to pay the balance until the day you check in.

However, if you want to set up a payment plan for yourself, you can simply pay the remaining balance down on your own while you wait for your trip to start.

Let’s say you have 6 months to go before your trip. Take the total remaining balance of your trip and divide by 6. Now you know how much you want to pay each month for your payment plan.

Unless they change the website, you’ll likely have to call in to a Disney cast member to make these payments, but it’s doable.

Disney Vacation Package Guests

As I mentioned, things are slightly different here, but the concept is the same. A Disney vacation package is when people bundle their resort and park tickets into one package.

This is the only way to be able to do a payment plan on the cost of park tickets .

When it is offered, the Disney dining plan can also be added in to a Disney vacation package.

When you book a Disney vacation package, the deposit that you’re required to put down immediately is $200. The remaining balance of the trip is due 30 days prior to check-in. Please take note of this, because it’s a different time frame than for resort only guests.

That means you have one less month to factor in to your “payment plan”.

So this time, for your trip that’s in 6 months, you need to divide the remaining balance by 5 to find out how much to pay each month.

Clearly, you can pay as much or as little as you want in the lead up to the trip, it doesn’t have to be exactly even for each of your advance payments. Do whatever works for you.

Final Thoughts on the Disney World Cost Calculator

I really hope you find this Disney trip calculator helpful. I really do have a (probably) unhealthy fascination with spreadsheets.

But it was important to me to design a tool more useful than a standard printable. And really, the less math I have to do on my own, the better!

But seriously, download this Disney World trip calculator and make your life a little easier.

Hi! I am interested in giving your calculator a try… but I don’t see any of the forms to fill out in order to get one. Please help! Thanks!

That’s weird that the forms don’t show up. Have you tried opening it up in a different browser? I can see the forms when I go on the page. You should see a section where it asks for your name and your email. Can you see that anywhere? If all else fails, try to this URL: https://landing.mailerlite.com/webforms/landing/e1o9e3

An overall cost breakdown

Disney ticket prices, disney hotel stays, food costs at the disney theme parks, other activities, methodology.

When you’re deciding whether to vacation at Walt Disney World in Florida or Disneyland in California, there’s a lot to consider, like the size of the parks , the number of rides and the distance from home.

But if you’re purely picking based on price, which is cheaper: Disneyland or Disney World?

Disney World tends to be cheaper overall for stays of one night or more, largely due to Florida’s lower hotel prices. But for some expenses, like tickets and food, Disneyland is cheaper.

disneyland trip cost calculator

A recent NerdWallet analysis looked at Disney World and Disneyland prices between April 2023 and April 2024 across four categories:

Park tickets (and add-ons, like Genie+ ).

On-property hotel room rates.

Food at park restaurants.

Add-on activities, like spa treatments and tours.

Read more about NerdWallet’s methodology at the end of this piece .

Here’s a closer look at the data on Disneyland versus Disney World costs.

Disney World tickets are about 3.9% more expensive than Disneyland tickets, and Disney World food runs about 9.9% more expensive.

But because the prices of Disney-owned hotels near Disneyland are significantly higher (nearly 50% higher, on average) than those near Disney World, the Florida resort tends to net out far cheaper overall than its California counterpart.

Our conclusions average estimated costs per person across three price tiers: Value, Moderate and Deluxe. Hotel room rates are based on Saturday night stays, which generally are more expensive than weekdays.

Here’s a look at some of the average individual line item costs.

These estimates don’t account for other costs like airfare, gas and parking, which vary depending on your transportation mode and starting location.

But all else equal, Walt Disney World tends to be far cheaper overall. And that doesn’t even account for the myriad free and low-cost Disney World activities available such as live music, fireworks viewing, bike rentals and fishing — all of which don’t even require a theme park ticket.

If you take on-property hotel stays out of the equation, Disneyland is actually more affordable than Disney World.

There are some similarities between Disneyland tickets and Disney World tickets. At both resorts, theme park ticket prices vary based on park and date, but Disneyland’s are almost always slightly cheaper.

The average price for a one-day Disneyland ticket for entry between April and August 2023 is $154. At Disney World, an average Magic Kingdom ticket (the closest park equivalent at Disney World) costs $160, making Disney World tickets, on average, 3.9% more expensive.

Video preview image

A huge factor in Disneyland’s higher cost comes down to its on-property hotel prices, which average 49% more expensive per night than Disney World hotels.

One reason for the high prices is that supply is limited. There are just three Disney-owned hotels at Disneyland compared to the more than two dozen at Disney World, offering far more options at every price point, from budget-friendly to higher-end. The Deluxe option is Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, where an average Saturday night stay costs $961 after taxes and fees. Even California’s Value property — Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, the most inexpensive of the three — can sometimes cost more nightly than some of Disney World’s Deluxe hotels.

Meanwhile, Walt Disney World offers more than two dozen hotels, providing far more options at every price point, from budget-friendly to splurges.

Nightly rates for one of Disney World’s most expensive hotels, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, start at $780, according to Disney price tracking site Touring Plans. This makes the closest West Coast equivalent, Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, where room rates start at $475, look like a deal.

But whereas you should expect to pay a minimum of $210 per night for Disneyland’s cheapest property, the Paradise Pier Hotel, Disney World rooms run as low as $128 per night at Disney's All-Star properties, according to Touring Plans.

For what it’s worth, Disneyland’s higher hotel room prices align with broader regional trends.

The U.S. General Services Administration, an agency of the government that manages federal property, collects average hotel room price data. These numbers serve as an indicator for mid-range hotel prices in each market.

Between April and September 2023, the average daily lodging rate in Orange County, California — where Disneyland is located — is $182, according to GSA data. For Orange County, Florida — home of Disney World — it’s just $129. That makes overall room rates in the Disneyland area 41% more expensive than those near Disney World — not far from the average 49% difference in room prices for Disney-owned hotels.

Across all price tiers of dining options, Disney World meals average 9.9% more expensive than equivalent-quality meals at Disneyland.

That’s practically the inverse of food prices for the broader region. Per NerdWallet’s cost of living calculator , average food costs in Orange County, California, are 7% higher than food costs in Orlando, Florida. These figures are based on core cost of living data from the Council for Community and Economic Research’s The Cost of Living Index.

For an average budget meal at a Value restaurant or cart, expect to spend at least $1 more per person, per meal in Florida. For high-end, waiter-service meals, Disney World is roughly $10 more expensive per person, per meal.

At Disneyland, expect to spend between $54 and $156 per person, per day on food depending on whether you prefer simple counter service or food cart style restaurants versus waiter service meals. At Disney World, daily meal prices range from $57 on the value end to $170 if you choose more spendy options.

For trips of three nights or more, NerdWallet’s data factored in additional entertainment beyond theme parks, like spa services, tours and bowling. Price differences in this category across the parks are a mixed bag. Depending on the activity, it might be cheaper at one park or the other, so research your specific interests when budgeting for your trip.

For example, a pedicure at Tenaya Stone Spa at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa in Anaheim costs $65, which is 18% more than the $55 for a pedicure at the onsite spa in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

Yet, other prices are higher at Disney World. At Splitsville Luxury Lanes, a bowling alley that exists at both resorts, lane rental rates at Disney World’s location average about 9% more than those at California’s location.

To compare Disneyland versus Disney World trip costs, NerdWallet analyzed more than 200 ticket prices, more than 550 price points across hotel room rates at Disney-owned hotels, and prices for more than 100 additional activities and restaurant menu items.

NerdWallet’s trip costs start once you’re on property, thus don’t account for parking, airfare or driving costs. Each trip assumes three meals per day in the parks, daily theme park tickets and overnight stays at a Disney-owned hotel.

NerdWallet broke trips into one-night, three-night and seven-night trips, and also categorized trips into three price tiers: Value, Moderate and Deluxe (the same classification that Disney World uses for its hotels).

Here’s what’s included in each price tier:

From there, NerdWallet used average costs to build sample trip budgets.

Additional notes:

Because Walt Disney World ticket prices vary by park, one-day ticket prices were based on Magic Kingdom admission. Two-day ticket prices were based on Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

NerdWallet’s analysis did not account for Park Hopper tickets , which allow access to multiple theme parks in one day.

All prices are per person other than hotel prices, which are listed per room. Your individual hotel costs might be less than what’s listed above if you share a room with multiple people.

These budgets should be used to estimate rather than determine your own Disney trip costs. For instance, you might spend less if you pack your own snacks, or you might spend more if you spring for miscellaneous costs (e.g. taxis, Mickey-shaped balloons or PhotoPass).

How much does it cost to go to Disneyland?

Disneyland ticket prices also vary by date. One-day, one-park admission starts at $104 for adults and $98 for kids ages 3 to 9. However this summer, child prices drop down to less than $50 per day with a special 3-Day Disneyland Ticket offer.

Guests visiting Monday through Thursday can save the most. Three-day tickets cost $249 for adults and $149 for children, which works out to $83 per day for adults and less than $50 per day for kids with no park hopping. Monday to Thursday tickets may not be used on Fridays or weekends.

Guests who want more flexibility can get 3-day tickets valid any day of the week for $299 per adult (less than $100 per day) and $199 per child (less than $67 per day), without park hopping.

Both types of tickets are valid from June 10 through Sept. 26 and are subject to park reservation availability. Unlike Disney World, Disneyland still requires park reservations for all tickets.

The Disneyland Theme Park and Resort in Anaheim, California, is the second-most popular amusement park in the entire world. Over 16 million people, including millions of international tourists, visit this fantastic place annually. However, a trip to Disneyland has become incredibly expensive over the years. As per the official website, a standard theme park ticket at Disneyland costs around $96-$194 per day.

According to the latest LendingTree survey , around 24% of Disneyland visitors are in debt for their trips. This survey collected data from 2000 U.S. consumers and observed several shocking insights. Let’s check out some of the most surprising facts about how Disneyland trips are becoming a financial nightmare for Americans. We will also discuss possible way-outs so you do not give up on your once-in-a-lifetime Disney dream.

<p>Disneyland’s reputation for high costs rings true, from entry fees over $100 to $15 for a burger and fry meal. Souvenirs also often carry hefty price tags. Things get even worse with long lines for rides. Wait times for popular rides can exceed 2 hours. Overcrowding also prevents you from enjoying the atmosphere. Compounding this,<a href="https://www.foxla.com/news/disneyland-disney-world-raises-ticket-prices-cost-increase" rel="noopener"> ticket prices saw another hike</a> in October 2023.</p>

Reason Behind Taking Loans for Disneyland Trips

LendingTree’s chief credit analyst, Matt Schulz, explains the tendency of people to take on debts for going to Disneyland. As per his analysis, Americans are immensely nostalgic about Disneyland’s charm. Thus, they can go to the extent of taking loans to make the Disney dream possible for their children.

Only 25% of Americans have visited theme parks other than Disneyland. This statistic reveals why Disneyland is a ‘rite of passage’ for most Americans.

<p>Leaving different amounts of your estate to your children can start a family feud. Similarly, an incomplete will, contradictory statements, or dated estate plan can also lead to ill-will between the siblings. Unless you want to be called ‘unfair’ by your children after you are no more, be clear, consistent, and complete with your estate plans. Update them every few years whenever there is a change in your family structure, such as a birth, death, or divorce.</p>

Total Number of Disney-goers in Debt

LendingTree has conducted the same survey about people going into debt for Disney trips consecutively in the past. Looking at the latest 2024 report, we can find a sharp 33% increase in the number of people taking debt for this purpose. Only 18% of Disney visitors were forced to take loans to make a Disney trip possible in 2022. Currently, the number stands at 24%. Around 74% of people in this statistic have taken a loan to complete a Disney trip in the last five years.

<p>Growing up in a low-income household can leave indelible marks on one’s life. It’s not just about the lack of material possessions but also the experiences and lessons learned from those formative years. This article explores the subtle signs that indicate a person’s humble beginnings.</p>

Most in Debt: Parents with Younger Children

The pattern of taking debt for a trip to Disneyland is mostly seen in parents with children younger than 18. Around 77% of American parents with young children visit theme parks. Of this number, almost 45% of parents needed to borrow money to make a Disney trip happen. This statistic has sharply risen by 50% since the last survey in 2022.

<p>If you’ve amassed a significant 401(k) or have been steadily constructing a stock portfolio but find yourself uncertain about diversification, seeking professional guidance can be immensely beneficial. Financial advisors can assist in determining optimal times to enhance specific investments and broaden your diversification strategy. They can also aid in identifying investment opportunities that resonate with your personal values and life objectives.</p>

Amount of Debt for Disney Trips

Going to Disneyland is not just about visiting the two theme parks. From fine dining experiences, spa sessions, and thrilling activities to lavish stays — the place has a plethora of things to offer. It is no wonder that people take an average of $1690 as a loan to enjoy the Disney experience. This amount is as high as $1983 for parents with children under 18.

People with an annual income of $100,000 or more constitute the biggest percentage (33%) of the debtors.

<p>Property tax in California is calculated at a standard rate of 1% of the assessed property value plus additional charges. Proposition 13 limits the annual increase in assessed value to 2%, alongside other contributing factors. Property tax revenue primarily funds local services such as schools, parks, and emergency services.</p>

Usual Time for Repaying Disney Debts

The LendingTree survey highlights that most people can repay the loan taken for Disneyland trips within six months. Considering the common response, 32% of Disney-goers under debt can pay it off in three to six months.

With the shift in the economic landscape, certain items will see a significant price surge in the near future. From everyday essentials to luxury goods, we've identified 16 things on the verge of becoming considerably expensive. This list can help you get ready for these price increases.

Adult Disney Visitors Are Suffering Too

It is inaccurate to think that only parents bear the burden of loans for going to California’s Disneyland. The Disneyland resort contributes billions to Southern California’s economic status. This huge turnover is possible because of adult participation as well. Around 29% of Disney visitors plan an exclusively adult-only Disney trip. Gen-Zs are primarily prone to making Disney plans as adults.

<div class="imagecontainfirst"> <p><span>Personal finances are ever-changing. Mastering budgeting is the key to a secure financial future. It lets you build savings and prepare for a stable life. Let us delve into 15 simple yet impactful tips that will guide you to financial mastery</span></p> </div>

Most Suffering Generation

As mentioned earlier, people with children under 18 constitute a significant percentage of debtors for Disney trips. This number mainly hints at Generation Z, followed by Millenials and Gen X. Around 39% of Gen-Zers going to Disneyland have to resort to monetary support. This may be because of the uncertain financial status of the younger generation in America.

<p>Skipping insurance feels like saving now, but it’s like gambling with your future. One accident or illness can wipe out your savings and pile on debt. Insurance protects you from unexpected costs, giving you peace of mind and keeping your wallet safe from nasty surprises. Think of it as investing in a safety net, not wasting money.</p>

Mixed Feelings on Disney Debt

It is no news that the whole world has gone through inflation since the 2020 pandemic. Yet, Disneyland’s business has bounced back in no time. The massive sentiment regarding this place compels Americans to go back time and again. Thus, 64% of Americans do not regret taking a debt for their Disney trips. Women (75%) are less likely to regret this than men (58%).

<p>Three resorts on Disneyland premises offer exquisite stays for families and friends. The park also offers multi-day offers to attract more visitors interested in the accommodation. Even the most basic rooms in any Disney property can cost hundreds of dollars. Around 47% of debtors have listed lodging as the reason for their debt.</p>

Staying Over Costs More

Three resorts on Disneyland premises offer exquisite stays for families and friends. The park also offers multi-day offers to attract more visitors interested in the accommodation. Even the most basic rooms in any Disney property can cost hundreds of dollars. Around 47% of debtors have listed lodging as the reason for their debt.

<p>Join Quiznos’ Toasty Points and get rewarded with a BOGO coupon for a free 8-inch sub on your birthday. It’s a tasty way to celebrate your special day!</p>

Food and Transport Costs Above Budget

While planning a trip to Disneyland, people often forget to take account of the transportation and meal costs. 65% of people with Disney debts have complained that they had to pay way more for food and beverages within the premises. On the other hand, 48% of debtors felt the transportation costs were above their capacity.

One of the good ways suggested by the LendingTree team is to arrange for snacks and water beforehand. Moreover, availing of public transport as much as possible can also reduce the overall budget.

<p>Going to Disneyland may be a common American dream, unfortunately, not every American can live the dream. Of those who have never been to Disneyland, 65% of respondents found the place too expensive for their budget. Around 67% of female respondents felt it was unaffordable for them.</p>

People Unable to Afford Disney

Going to Disneyland may be a common American dream, unfortunately, not every American can live the dream. Of those who have never been to Disneyland, 65% of respondents found the place too expensive for their budget. Around 67% of female respondents felt it was unaffordable for them.

<p>When partners in a relationship are not on the same page regarding finances, it can lead to conflicts and misunderstandings. Financial issues often represent deeper values, priorities, and trust levels. For instance, one partner might prefer spending on present pleasures while the other focuses on saving for the future. This difference in perspectives can make each other feel that their values are not understood and appreciated by the other. Hidden debts, secret spending, or undisclosed financial habits can break trust, eroding honesty.</p>

Managing Disney Debts

Visiting Disneyland is definitely a high-priced affair, yet there are some wise ways to manage the budget. One should start planning early and save up to avoid taking on any debt for an upcoming Disneyland trip. Experts suggest not taking any personal loans at all. Even if one needs to take a personal loan for a Disney trip, one should compare the rates beforehand. Lastly, it is important to prioritize the activities at Disneyland. Splurging money on some things while cutting down on several others can help manage potential debts.
