An Honest Travelers Choice Luggage Review: Is It Worth It?

Wondering if Travelers Choice is any good or looking for a comprehensive Travelers Choice luggage review? If so, you’ve come to the right place! I’m someone who has traveled with Travelers Choice suitcases for nearly a decade. Most recently, I spent 45 days exploring Japan and South Korea with my new Travelers Choice Silverwood II suitcase. In this post, I’ll provide an in-depth and honest review of the carry-on bag from this lineup. This way, you can make an informed decision on whether this suitcase is worth it for you!

The Silverwood II at a Glance

To start, here’s an overview of the key specifications of the Silverwood II carry-on. Its dimensions are fairly standard in that they’re just under the carry-on size limit for most non-budget airlines. But, as always, I recommend checking an airline’s official website for their specific baggage restrictions.

• Packing dimensions: 19.5″H x 13.75″W x 9.25″D + 2″ depth gusset
• Storage Capacity: 40.64 – 49.43 Liters

🧳 NOTE: A gusset is a second zippered compartment that can be unzipped to provide extra packing space. Normally, this compartment is hidden or “compressed” so you don’t see it.

Travelers Choice Luggage Review: Pros

Based on the specifications above, you might think the Silverwood II is like any other suitcase. This is true in some regards, such as with its hard shell exterior and dimensions. However, I believe 5 standout features made all the difference in my trip across Japan and South Korea!

1. Sleek & Ergonomic Design

First and foremost, I am a massive fan of the suitcase’s design. It perfectly combines aesthetic appeal with practical durability and convenience. For instance, its metallic brush appearance offers a sleek, modern look that distinguishes it visually from typical luggage options. And if you look on top, you’ll notice black rubber caps around the corners. These rubber bits enhance the suitcase’s durability by protecting the most vulnerable areas from cracking and damage often seen in hardshell suitcases.

Another key difference is that the Silverwood II features a patented curved handle, which is a departure from the standard flat telescopic handles found on most suitcases. This unique design offers a more ergonomic grip, making it easier and more comfortable to maneuver, especially when the suitcase is heavily packed. I’ll be honest, I initially didn’t think much of the handle. But, after lugging my suitcase around for several weeks, I actually did notice a difference in reducing strain during transit. This was especially true on my longer travel days or when I had to walk 20+ minutes from a bus stop to my housing accommodations. Lastly, the suitcase is equipped with sturdy rubber handles on the top and side. These make it easier to lift your bag to and from the overhead bins or pull it from the baggage carousels. Again, it may not seem like much, but the small things add up!

2. Ease of Transport and Movement

Arguably the most important factor in determining if a suitcase is good is whether it has good mobility. I mean, what’s the point of a suitcase if it’s not easy to transport? It’s pretty much the one mandatory job description of a suitcase. 😂 Anyway, I’m happy to report that the Silverwood II moves super smoothly. This is because, unlike other suitcases that have single roller wheels, the Silverwood II is built with Travelers Choice patented Dual Cyclone spherical wheels. These wheels are much larger than regular suitcase wheels. Despite the bulkier appearance, these wheels are probably my favorite feature. They allow for smooth 360° movement and significantly increase the suitcase’s stability. I kid you not, these wheels can go right over rocks and bumps on the road with no problem. Not to mention, when I propped my 10kg backpack on top of the suitcase, my suitcase didn’t topple over!

Contrastingly, my spare Samsonite suitcase, which I brought for comparison purposes and to accommodate all the fun souvenirs and skin care items I wanted to bring back from Japan and South Korea, was much harder to maneuver around. The wheels repeatedly got stuck on dips in the road or would lock up in one direction. As you can imagine, having one suitcase roll right over rocks and gravel and one constantly get stuck wasn’t fun. But, traveling with these two completely different suitcases starkly highlighted how much easier it is to navigate with my Travelers Choice suitcase.

3. Pockets Galore

I’m someone who tries to be as organized as possible when traveling, so having pockets is a necessity. Within the Silverwood II, there are pockets galore! One side has your standard zippered divider compartment with a mesh zippered pocket and a regular zippered pocket. Meanwhile, the other side has a removable compression divider, which is something I’ve never seen before. This detachable divider has two large mesh zippered pockets that are excellent for keeping your socks and underwear easily accessible. Then, within that compartment of the suitcase, there are two additional zippered pockets. One is for your power bank and the other is good for storing smaller items that might be easily lost. For instance, I used the pockets for storing non-liquid toiletries like tweezers, nail clippers, my toothbrush, and other small souvenirs that I didn’t want to break or get lost in the shuffle.

Add your favorite compression packing cubes to the mix and this suitcase is fantastic for short weekend trips or epic international trips! During my 45-day trip across Japan and South Korea, I almost exclusively traveled out of my Silverwood II, and I easily packed 1.5 week’s worth of clothes. In fact, I think I might have overpacked since I didn’t wear half the stuff I brought lol. 🙈

🚨🇯🇵🇰🇷 Full transparency: Again, I brought my spare Samsonite suitcase for comparison purposes for this post and for bringing back souvenirs. But, it was empty when I departed home! P.S. I highly recommend you do the same if you travel to Japan and Korea. You’d be surprised how tempting it is to buy everything over there!

4. Premium Features

One of the main reasons I wanted to test the Silverwood II was because of its premium features. On the top of the suitcase, there is a built-in TSA-approved lock. This gives you peace of mind and is way more convenient than having to use an independent lock, which is what I do for my Samsonite suitcase. In fact, during my trip, I actually misplaced my independent lock and had to purchase another one. So, having a built-in TSA-approved lock makes a difference in that it’s one less thing to keep track of!

Another feature I appreciate is the built-in battery and USB port. At this point, traveling with a reliable portable battery is a must. You never know if there’s going to be a charging port available near you and being stranded with a dead phone is the worst 🙅🏽‍♀️ (been there, done that!) Avoid having to worry about plugging your device into a dead outlet and seeing that it doesn’t charge your phone or having to dig through your stuffed personal bag to find the portable charger. Legit, one time I tucked my portable charger so deep within my backpack that I had to spend 7+ minutes unpacking and repacking my precariously packed bag to get to my charger. 🙃 In short, a built-in charging port makes life a little simpler. The only thing to note is that you do have to purchase your own battery. I know this may be a downside for some, but I actually think it’s better. In my experience, portable batteries have a shorter lifespan than suitcases. Thus, you can switch out your portable battery any time you like, with your battery of choice!

5. Excellent Value

Last but not least, I like that the Travelers Choice Silverwood II provides excellent value for everything you get — from the innovative and thoughtful design to the built-in TSA lock and USB port. Sure, it may not be the cheapest suitcase in the world, but it’s significantly cheaper than other hot brands on the market. I’m looking at you Monos brand with your $350+ carry-on suitcases. Like what!?! 🤯 Plus, I don’t think most suitcases can bear the weight of my travel style. It usually involves rolling my suitcase for miles along rocky dirt paths, the side of busy roads, and dreaded cobblestone streets. Oh, and we can’t forget being tossed around in airplanes, buses, and trains with hundreds of other bags! 😅 Yes, I’m often too cheap and stubborn for my own good to pay for a taxi. This is all to say it provides amazing value at a great price and has held up well during my recent trip! Obviously, 45 days isn’t a ton of real-world testing, but if it’s anything like my other Travelers Choice suitcase, I expect it to hold up for another 8 – 10 years! Travelers Choice Luggage Review: Cons

Honestly, even after traveling across all kinds of terrains and via several different modes of transport, I struggled to find fault with this suitcase. Maybe I just haven’t put enough miles on the bag, but this bag has held up extremely well for the duration of my trip… Thus, the cons below are me being super nitpicky.

1. Scratches and Scuffs

The main disadvantage I found with this suitcase is that it gets scratches on the exterior. Literally, after my very first flight, I noticed the front side already had a few scuff marks from me pulling my suitcase out of the overhead compartment. And by the end of the trip, there were a few more around the exterior. That said, the shiny metallic brush finish makes the scratches less noticeable. They kind of blend into the finish and show up as white instead of black. But, it might just be because the scratch marks I have aren’t massive. Either way, I don’t really mind this as aesthetics isn’t my top priority. For me, I don’t need or expect any suitcase to stay in pristine condition, especially with the *unforgiving* way I travel. As long as the inherent functionality of the suitcase isn’t damaged, then the suitcase is good in my books! Of course, though, if you do care about appearances of your luggage, you’ll want to take this into consideration.

2. Compression Divider

My only other con, which really isn’t a con, is that the removable compression divider takes some getting used to. What I mean by this is that my previous suitcase had zippered divider compartments on both sides of the suitcase. This meant there was a very clear limit as to how much I could and could not fit into each compartment before I was unable to zip it up. However, with this removable compression divider, you have to lock each clip on the four corners and then tighten it to compress everything underneath. If you don’t remember to tighten it, little souvenirs or smaller, loose items in that compartment might fall out, which was a little annoying for me. But, once you get the hang of it, it’s not so bad. In fact, I eventually realized I like having a detachable flap because I can fit more into that compartment! Since the divider is fully removable, you aren’t constrained by being able to zip up that compartment! Thus, you can stuff that side to the brim and still “secure” everything with the adjustable clips.

Must-Have Travel Gear

While the suitcase itself is amazing, here are a few other travel items to bring and enhance your travel adventure! I also have a page dedicated to my favorite tried and true travel resources ! 👀

• 🧳 Compression Packing Cubes : Although regular packing cubes are great, compression packing cubes are on an entirely different level. These allow you to maximize space in your suitcase by basically vacuum sealing your clothes without a vacuum sealer! So, if you want to save space and keep your belongings organized and compact, check out these awesome compression packing cubes !
• 🔋 Portable Battery : As I mentioned earlier, a strong portable battery is essential for all your travels. This is the main battery I travel with , and this is the portable battery I store inside my Silverwood II !
• 🎧 Noise Cancelling Headphones : Avoid having your sleep schedule disrupted on flights and in hostels or simply tune out the rest of the world with noise-canceling headphones! My Airpod Pros are something I refuse to travel without, and I highly recommend investing in a pair if you can!
• 🌐 Bluetooth Adaptor for Airplanes : If you have Bluetooth headphones, consider getting a Bluetooth adaptor for airplanes. These enable wireless connectivity for Bluetooth headphones on planes that only offer wired headphone connections.
• 🔌 Universal Adaptor : Traveling internationally? A universal adaptor lets you plug in and use your electronic devices in countries with different outlet standards. This way, you don’t waste money buying individual adaptors for each country.
• 🏷️ Luggage Tag : Get a little luggage tag to help you identify your luggage quickly and provide your contact information in case your bags are misplaced or lost during transit.

Final Thoughts: Is the Silverwood II Worth It?

As someone who spends most of the year traveling, I’m quite picky about the gear I travel with. At its core, it has to be high-quality, durable, and functional because more often than not, I put my travel gear through the ringer while exploring off-the-beaten paths! One suitcase brand that ticks all the boxes and is on the more affordable side is Travelers Choice. I’ve traveled across the globe with their suitcases for the better part of 10 years and haven’t been disappointed once. Their Silverwood II carry-on suitcase is no different. After 45 days, I’ve found it well worth the price. It has a thoughtful design that promotes durability and smooth movement, includes an abundance of pockets to improve organization, and offers premium features that normally come with a more expensive price tag. Traveler’s Choice is a popular luggage brand that sells well-made suitcases in the medium price range. But is their durability any good? And aren’t other more-popular brands, like Samsonite or Travelpro, better choices?

In this Traveler’s Choice luggage review, we’ll find out. We’ll determine how durable they are, how well they’re reviewed, what their warranty is like, and compare them with similar alternatives from different brands. All to find out if Traveler’s Choice is worth it or not.

On CleverJourney’s Best Luggage Brands , Traveler’s Choice gained 82 points. This places them at 7th place on our leaderboard. In the middle-class, Traveler’s Choice took 5th place, right next to Ricardo Beverly Hills and just behind Delsey Paris.

• Packed With Impressive Features. Traveler’s Choice suitcases usually come with TSA-approved locks, expandable zippers, awesome organization features, double spinner wheels, and a few innovations on their premium models. While these can be found in other brands, none of them offer such features at Traveler’s Choice’s prices.
• A Solid Warranty. Although their warranty terms are pretty weak ( on paper, they only cover manufacturing defects ), the situation is much better in real life. Many of their customers said that they got brand-new replacements even when the damage wasn’t supposed to be covered by the warranty.
• Affordable. We classified Traveler’s Choice as a medium-class brand when, in reality, they’re somewhere between the medium-class and the affordable-class. When you take into account the durability, features, and warranty, we think that their suitcases are well worth it.
• Not made for frequent travelers. Although their quality is far from being bad, it won’t be enough for regular travel. That being said, they’ll be excellent for semi-frequent and leisure travelers. People reported that their suitcases usually last five to ten years of moderate use.
• The warranty claim process is complicated. To fill the warranty claim, you’ll have to take three pictures, provide the original receipt, write a detailed description, and provide any additional details for future responses. After that, you’ll have to wait for days or weeks to get a reply, but once you do get a hold of them, they’re usually friendly and forthcoming.

The Verdict

Traveler’s Choice is a rock-solid option if you’re looking for an affordable and durable suitcase. Although they won’t withstand frequent travel and a rough beating, they’ll last for five to ten years of moderate use. They’re priced really affordably and packed with many impressive features that would usually come with a bag that’s $20-$100 more expensive. Although their warranty is bad on paper, most people actually reported that it’s pretty good.

If you’re traveling for leisure, we believe that Traveler’s Choice is a pretty good option. That being said, if you’re looking for something that withstands frequent travel, you should go with Travelpro , Chester , or Samsonite .

Traveler’s Choice Travelware Inc. was established back in 1984, Los Angeles, California. They started out as just a simple private label luggage brand, but now they’ve grown into something bigger.

Although their main offices are located in the U.S., their products are manufactured in China and other countries by outsourced suppliers. Nowadays, almost everything is outsourced, and it doesn’t necessarily mean that their products are less durable. In fact, Traveler’s Choice suitcases are actually pretty well-built; they’re made from durable materials and can even be used for frequent travel. Under the same company, they also house other brands, like Prokas luggage, U.S. Traveler, Travel Select, Pacific Gear, and Beverly Hills Country Club Luggage. That said, Traveler’s Choice is by far their most popular brand.

In addition to luggage, Traveler’s Choice also offers duffels, backpacks, and other travel accessories. They’ve also got a pretty wide selection of unique suitcases. For instance, they offer shelf/trunk luggage, which is rectangular and houses customizable shelves inside, smart suitcases, transparent suitcases, and suitcases with personalized prints.

Reviews (24/30)

On average, Traveler’s Choice suitcases are reviewed between 4.0 -4.5 stars. A few other luggage brands are a bit better-reviewed, such as Samsonite and Travelpro , but overall, it’s a really good result. We didn’t find any of their models below 3.7 stars, which is good. A lot of luggage brands have a few ‘failed’ models with very low scores, but that’s not the case with Traveler’s Choice. It means that they’ve got pretty high durability standards for all of their models, not just a few select ones.

Out of all the reviews that we read, here are the most common points that people pointed out:

• Usually, their carry-ons are within the 22 x 14 x 9 carry-on limits, making them a good choice for international flights.
• Their warranty claims are challenging to fill out and often take a while to reply.
• Once you do get a reply from the warranty, there’s a high chance that you’ll get a new suitcase shipped to you free of charge, not just a few replacement parts.
• After a year or two, some people started experiencing defects with wheels, handles, and zippers.
• Some people said that the main compartment on some of their models could be better organized.
• Sometimes, their models have outdated pictures, and you might receive a slightly different case.

Quality (15/20)

As you could expect from a private label brand that manufactures their suitcases in third-world countries, their durability isn’t perfect. That being said, Traveler’s Choice suitcases aren’t actually that bad. Many people said that the previous models lasted five to ten years, and some even said that they didn’t experience any problems when traveling frequently ( 10+ times per year ) .

Most of them are built from somewhat durable materials. Although the cheapest models are made from polyester or ABS ( less-durable materials often used in affordable luggage ) ,  their more expensive models are usually made from polycarbonate or ballistic polyester, which are much more durable materials and often used in premium suitcases.

However, we noticed that a lot of people complained that a few durability issues started to pop up after a while. For instance, sometimes, the zippers will begin to get stuck, or a side handle may come off, or a spinner wheel could get stuck or break off completely. Often these issues will get fixed by the warranty, but you have to understand that Traveler’s Choice isn’t the most durable brand out there, and some problems are to be expected.

We wouldn’t recommend them to business travelers or people who travel a few months at a time. They’ll be durable enough for semi-frequent travelers and people who travel for leisure. When traveling 5-10 times per year, you can expect their bags to last 3-5 years. But you could stretch that out to ten years if you’d travel one or two times per year.

Features (14/15)

Even though Traveler’s Choice suitcases are priced on the affordable end, they’re packed with quite impressive features.

On some of their more-pricier models, they’ve also implemented a few innovations, like transparent materials, spherical wheels, T-shaped handles for maximized packing space, USB chargers, personalized prints, and more.

Double Spinner Wheels on Most Models

Most Traveler’s Choice suitcases come with double spinner wheels instead of regular ones. Eight wheels are better than four because they roll smoother, get over little bumps more smoothly, and are more durable, so it’s nice to see these in almost every bag that Traveler’s Choice offers.

They’ve also made a few improvements on the concept, making them in a spherical shape. Samsonite has done something similar on their newer models, and this system is supposedly more durable and better for rough surfaces because the wheels are ball-shaped. You’ll find spherical wheels only on their latest models, like the Traveler’s Choice Silverwood or the Traveler’s Choice Barcelona .

Expandable Zippers and TSA-Approved Locks Even for Affordable Models

Usually, TSA-approved locks aren’t offered in suitcases that cost below $80. Traveler’s Choice includes them even in their $60 models, which is nice. The TSA-approved combination locks essentially allow you to lock your luggage while making sure that TSA security agents will still be able to get inside.

Smart Charging on Premium Models

Some of their newer models, like the Silverwood 2 or the Millenial, come with USB ports for charging your electronics. Although a battery pack isn’t included, they sell a 10 000 mAh power bank, which fits perfectly in the dedicated pocket.

Transparent Suitcases

Their newest addition, the Millenial carry-on is made from a transparent polycarbonate frame.

Although other brands have tried something similar, the Traveler’s Choice option also comes with charging ports and overall looks reasonably minimalistic. In fact, the Millenial carry-on was one of the winners of the 2019 RedDot design awards , which is the most prestigious award for product design.

Suitcases With Built-in Shelves

Traveler’s Choice also offers a few models of “Trunk luggage”, which essentially are rectangular-shaped, have more space, and are quite a solid choice for checked luggage. Athletes usually use them because of the increased space and protection.

Their “trunk luggage” models have separators that look like shelves and are moveable. For instance, you can set up one compartment in the ideal size for a few pairs of shoes, another for your clothes, and the third one for your camera gear.

Suitcases With Personalized Prints

If you check out their website, you’ll find quite a few options for customizable bags. For instance, on this hardside carry-on , you’ll be able to print just about anything – company logos, group or team initials, or something personal to present as a gift.

Design (13/15)

Aside from a few of Traveler’s Choice’s most basic affordable models, pretty much all of their suitcases look good. They have enough models for business people as well as someone who’s looking for more color.

We believe that the Traveler’s Choice Maxporter II is the best-looking choice for the business class. It’s professional, sleek, and modern, which is really everything a business suitcase needs to look like.

Another good-looking suitcase is the Traveler’s Choice Bell Weather in rose gold, navy, or silver metallic colors. In fact, there are only a few other rose gold suitcases out there, and this is one of the best-looking ones. Usually, their models are available in 3-6 color options, not just one or two, so their selection is quite good.

Warranty (6/10)

Although Traveler’s Choice’s warranty isn’t that good on paper, in reality, it is. Their warranty terms are pretty weak and subjective, but people have said that their experiences were the opposite – usually, they’ll offer to send a new suitcase free of charge.

Traveler’s Choice Warranty Terms

• Their bags come with a five or a ten-year warranty, depending on which one you get.
• Only manufacturing defects are covered.
• A receipt or an invoice is needed.
• The warranty doesn’t cover normal wear and tear, accidents, and transportation damages, especially on zippers and wheels.
• For a warranty claim, you’ll need to submit three photos.
• Usually, replacement parts aren’t provided. Instead, they’ll send you a new suitcase.
• Their staff is slow to respond but usually helpful and friendly.
• We didn’t find any people who said there were additional fees for handling or shipping. So it’s pretty safe to assume that shipping costs are covered.

Usually, we wouldn’t give more than five points for a warranty with these terms. But in reviews, we found countless people who said that often they’d replace suitcases, even if the damages were made from airline use. For instance, if you’d have a broken handle, wheel, or a crack in the hard shell, the chances are that you would get a free replacement.

Price (10/10)

Although we categorized Traveler’s Choice as a moderately priced brand, they’re definitely on the affordable end. The features and durability that they offer usually come with pricier bags, so we believe that Traveler’s Choice is a valuable purchase.

Here’s what prices you can expect:

• Softside carry-ons: $70-$110.
• Hardside carry-ons: $55-$160.
• Checked suitcases: $70-$200.
• Luggage sets: $90-$450.

By the way, we notice that their prices are often manually jacked up. For instance, usually, you can see carry-ons that ‘normally’ cost $300, but now are available only for $80. It’s actually only a trick because they’re on sale all the time.

When considering the durability, warranty, and features, not only price, Traveler’s Choice suitcases are actually a pretty good deal. From other brands, you’d find a similar suitcase priced $20-$50 more.

How Does Traveler’s Choice Compare to Other Luggage Brands?

Traveler’s Choice offers the best value for your money out of all the medium-priced brands. Ricardo Beverly Hills offers similarly-priced suitcases but they lack in durability and features. Samsonite, Travelpro, and Chester all offer slightly more expensive suitcases.

In terms of features, Traveler’s Choice does a really good job due to spherical wheels, innovative materials, customized prints, and more. It manages to surpass brands like Samsonite and Chester and ranks similarly to Travelpro and Delsey Paris .

In warranty, Traveler’s Choice places behind Samsonite, Travelpro, and Chester. This is because their warranty terms are too vague and cover only manufacturing defects. In fact, you’d find similar terms for most affordable brands. For a brand that’s competing in the medium price range, we’d like to see better warranty terms.

Overall, Traveler’s Choice is a great option for those who are on a tight budget. If the brand would offer better warranty terms and increase the quality of its suitcases, they’d rank much much higher.

If you’re looking for an affordable fabric suitcase, the Traveler’s Choice Birmingham carry-on is a pretty good choice. Its design is rather unique for a softside suitcase, and it comes in two colors – red and black. Both of them have accents of different colors ( gray and orange, respectively ) that add a great stylish touch.

It’s pretty rare to see a suitcase below $100 that’s made from anything else than 600D or 800D polyester. The Traveler’s Choice Birmingham is made from 1680D polyester, which is much more durable, but also heavier. 1680D nylon would be even better, but these are usually seen in $200 suitcases. So, essentially, you shouldn’t worry about tears in the fabric because this material can take a beating.

Because this bag comes with two skate wheels instead of four spinner wheels, it has a slightly larger capacity than a spinner carry-on. It’s also made just slightly below the most common 22 x 14 x 9 carry-on size limit, which makes it perfect for international flights. It is neatly organized, with quite a few pockets inside in addition to two exterior compartments. It’s also expandable, which is nice for those return flights where you’ve bought too many souvenirs and snacks.

The only issue people had with this bag is that the retractable handle sometimes gets stuck, and the side handle isn’t properly attached, so it may come off after a while.

But, other than that, the Traveler’s Choice Birmingham carry-on is easily the best value for money softside suitcase on the market. Another similar suitcase to this one is the Ricardo Beverly Hills Malibu Bay 2.0 20-inch carry-on .

Most Popular: Traveler’s Choice Tasmania Carry-On

The Traveler’s Choice Tasmania is probably their best-selling hardside and is frequently mentioned on other sites as one of the best choices for hardside suitcases. Its design is pretty generic, but it looks great nevertheless. It comes in three colors – black, dark brown, and purple. These are all pretty dark colors, so it might be difficult to spot your suitcase on the luggage conveyor belts.

The bag is selling so much for a reason – it’s got decent durability and features, and is priced really cheaply. Essentially, you’d expect to pay at least $150 for a good-looking polycarbonate suitcase with double spinner wheels, expandable width, and TSA-approved locks. But this one costs less, which is one of the reasons why it’s so popular. Although it’s slightly wider than 14 inches in width, many people said they managed to pass the “box test” at airports, making it a good choice for international travel.

Inside, the Tasmania carry-on is neatly organized, with two x-shaped tie-down straps and several zippered compartments for storage. If you tend to overpack, it’s also good to know that this carry-on is expandable by an additional two inches, which results in around 25% more packing space. We love the interior of this suitcase because you can easily fit in clothes and toiletries for a one-week trip.

Overall, if you’re looking for a durable and affordable hardside suitcase with all the essential features, the Traveler’s Choice Tasmania is one of the first choices that we would recommend. However, if you’re willing to spend a few more bucks, the Travelpro Maxlite 5 hardside carry-on is a slightly better choice.

Best Hardside Checked: Traveler’s Choice Pagosa Medium Checked

The Pagosa collection is an incredible hardside collection by Traveler’s Choice. The medium checked Pagosa is the best hardside checked suitcase that Traveler’s Choice has to offer. Its design is simplistic, but it’s better than having a plain bag with no design, and it also comes in a few colors, including navy blue, baby blue, black, and pink.

This suitcase is made from polypropylene, which isn’t the most durable plastic, but it’s much better than ABS. Most carry-ons at this price point are made from ABS or a mix of ABS and polycarbonate, and polypropylene is more durable than both. The Pagosa bag features four double spinner wheels, a sturdy retractable handle, and three handles on the suitcase’s top, side, and bottom.

In the interior, you’ll find several zippered pockets, where you could keep different types of clothing or toiletries, and there’s the main compartment which can still fit large pieces of clothing, like jackets. The suitcase is also expandable, which is great for fitting in more clothes, but it makes the zippers more prone to getting destroyed, as most customers have said.

Overall, the Pagosa checked suitcase is an excellent hardside bag. If your budget allows it, you should also take a look at the Delsey Cruise Lite 2.0 medium checked suitcase , which is a more durable alternative to the Pagosa.

Best Hardside Carry-On: Traveler’s Choice New London II Carry-On

The New London II is easily the best hardside carry-on by Traveler’s Choice. It might not look cool in the pictures, and its design is pretty basic, but the textured finish on it adds a much-needed stylistic look. Unfortunately, the bag only comes in gray and navy colors.

It’s made of 100% polycarbonate, which is very surprising considering that it’s incredibly cheap ( it goes for less than $100 on Amazon ), and its corners are reinforced, so it will rarely get damaged. But, as some customers have stated, it’s prone to scratches, even though it’s supposed to be scratch-resistant. It also comes with a top handle, a retractable handle, and eight spinner wheels. Nearly no complaints were made about these, which is great to see.

The interior is pretty basic. While the Pagosa collection features many pockets that give you more packing options, the New London II has the classic main compartment and zippered mesh pocket, with a U-shaped pocket on the inside of the lid for toiletries. But, you can still fit quite a lot of clothes inside, so you won’t need to worry about that.

Overall, the Traveler’s Choice New London II is very well-reviewed, affordable, and a solid choice for a hardside carry-on. A similar suitcase is the Ricardo Beverly Hills Mojave 20-inch carry-on .

Best-Looking: Traveler’s Choice Maxporter II Large Checked

The Maxporter II checked suitcase by Traveler’s Choice is one of the best-looking suitcases we’ve seen. While the design is nothing too special, the textured finish is incredible, and the red accents on the wheels, zippers, and handle are stunning. It only comes in black, dark green, navy, and gray, all of which look pretty similar.

The exterior is made of rugged polycarbonate, meaning that it’s water-resistant and very durable. The entire suitcase has a plethora of handles, including ones on the front, the side, the top, and the bottom. There’s also a retractable handle, which has been said to be reasonably durable. The double spinner wheels are also great, and maneuvering the suitcase around is fun and easy.

Inside, you’ll find a compartment for anything you need. There are three slots for different types of clothing on the main compartment, and there’s a large mesh pocket under two pockets for your shoes or dirty clothes. You can also fit your toiletries in any of the zippered pockets or the U-shaped pocket on the inside of the lid.

Overall, the Traveler’s Choice Maxporter II is one of the best-looking large suitcases we’ve reviewed. The only one that we liked similarly to this one is the Ricardo Beverly Hills Beaumont 28-inch suitcase .

Best 2-Piece Luggage Set: Traveler’s Choice Dana Point 2-Piece Luggage Set

The Dana Point 2-piece luggage set is the best 2-piece luggage set that Traveler’s Choice offers. The design of both suitcases is pretty sleek, and we love it. It might not be as extravagant as what others offer for the same price, but it keeps a simple, elegant, yet professional look. It comes in a variety of colors as well, including rose gold, blue, and lavender.

The luggage set is made from ABS, which is the cheapest plastic on the market. But, this is also why this set costs less than $200, and, in fact, it costs nearly half of what the Maxporter II large checked suitcase costs. Both Dana Point suitcases feature double spinner wheels and retractable handles. Each bag also comes with a top handle and the checked one comes with a side handle as well.

The interior of the bags is very simple and traditional. They feature a main compartment where you usually pack all your clothes and a zippered mesh pocket where you can fit laundry, toiletries, shoes, or anything else that fits. The carry-on also has a USB port so that you can charge your phone or any other device you’ve brought along, like your laptop or e-reader. Unfortunately, none of the two bags has a TSA lock, so you’ll need to purchase one separately.

Overall, despite not being the most durable or innovative luggage set on the market, the Traveler’s Choice Dana Point 2-piece luggage set offers great value for your money.

Best 3-Piece Luggage Set: Traveler’s Choice Sedona 3-Piece Luggage Set

The Traveler’s Choice Sedona luggage set is an excellent 3-piece luggage set. It’s been around for nearly a decade, so there are tons of reviews about it online. The design of each suitcase is superb and glossy. Despite featuring a very common design pattern, every suitcase still stands out because of the vibrant colors they come in, including black, red, and blue.

The luggage set is made from polycarbonate, which is the most durable plastic on the market. It’s what we expected when we took a look at the price tag, and we weren’t disappointed. Each bag has a retractable handle and double spinner wheels. We didn’t find many complaints about these two components, which is odd since they’re usually the first parts to break. That being said, many customers complained about the zippers, which most commonly aren’t durable in expandable suitcases.

The interior of each bag is relatively simple. You’ll be getting the main compartment along with a zippered mesh pocket below two zippered pockets, where you can fit most of your essentials, like toiletries, underwear, and shoes.

Overall, the Traveler’s Choice Sedona 3-piece luggage set is an excellent choice for a long trip. At that price point, we’d also suggest checking out the Samsonite Winfield 2 3-piece luggage set .

• It has all the features I want — durable hard clamshell case, sturdy wheels, and removable battery pack — but only costs around $130 for the carry-on size. Depending on the size you need, prices start at $80 and can go up to $180.
• The clever interior compartments and flaps help optimize space so I was able to fit a week's worth of clothing and accessories. It's a n affordable carry-on with features that'd normally cost a lot more.   

I'm not someone who cares a lot about having the latest things, but I do care about taking any opportunities I can get to travel.

That means that as much as I hate shopping, I've spent a good amount of time trying to find the perfect luggage for everything from quick road trips to multi-week international adventures. I've tried duffel bag rollers (too floppy), soft-sided carry-ons (too hard to pull), and camping backpacks (too heavy and hard to carry).

After years of flying at least once a month, I finally decided to get a high-quality suitcase.

The Traveler's Choice Smart USB Port Hardside Spinner Suitcase is only $130 but has high-end features that would usually cost so much more 

Anyone with an Instagram account has probably seen photos of AWAY luggage , the trendy travel brand loved by millennials and even the Insider Reviews team .

The suitcases come in various shades of pastel, and because they're hard-sided, they're durable enough for frequent travel. They also come with a removable battery pack to ensure you never have a dead phone and an expandable zipper so you can make your bag a few inches wider for longer trips.

The problem? The 22" carry-on suitcase starts at $225  — far too much for my budget, which is why I don't have one.

So I did some research to find one with all the same features at a lower price tag. The Traveler's Choice Smart USB Port Hardside Spinner Suitcase comes with every feature I want and a price tag that's more than $100 cheaper than Away's. 

It has a removable battery pack,  durable hard clamshell case, four sturdy wheels, ergonomic handle, b uilt-in dividers

I truly love this bag for one reason — it has everything I want without the steep price tag.

I chose the navy blue color as I wanted a trendy color. The design has black accents, so it looks modern but professional; I'd imagine I could go right from an airport to a meeting without looking out of place.

As soon as my suitcase arrived, I noticed it had thoughtful design features that can be hard to find in affordable luggage, like rubber bumpers on the corners to prevent damage and a curved, ergonomic handle that's more comfortable to pull over long distances.  

While many budget-friendly suitcases have two wheels, the Traveler's Choice one has four, all of which can rotate 360 degrees. That makes it easy to push and pull with way less effort than a normal roller bag; even with my hands full, I'm able to pull the packed suitcase with just one finger. It's also easy to move forward, backward, and sideways with ease; it was nice to roll the suitcase through airplane aisles rather than awkwardly holding it sideways.

The built-in dividers help optimize space — I was able to easily fit everything I needed for a weeklong road trip

My favorite design feature ended up being the zippered pockets and dividers that kept all my clothes in place.

One side of the clamshell-style suitcase is just a large zippered compartment, this wound up being the most useful as it kept all my clothing neatly and securely in place, especially when full.

On the other half, instead of a zipper, there's a flap with pockets and adjustable straps. The flap covers whatever you have in that compartment and can be tightened to help keep your clothes in place whether you've packed in six hoodies or just a few T-shirts.

Both sides have additional zippered pockets perfect for charging cables, jewelry, or small travel accessories.

I combined the suitcase with packing cubes and was amazed by how much I could fit in there. Thanks to the smart dividers, I was able to pack much more than I'd fit in my old roller bag. I easily packed for a weeklong road trip, fitting four pairs of pants, four shorts, a week's worth of socks and underwear, five T-shirts, three long-sleeve shirts, four hoodies and jackets, and two pairs of shoes.

And there was no need to sit on my suitcase to make everything fit either since I used the extra central zipper to get two more inches of space.

The removable battery pack is incredibly helpful too 

The high-tech pièce de résistance is what really convinced me to try it — a built-in USB port that can be used with a battery pack.

You don't need to buy a Traveler's Choice-branded battery pack — you can use any you already have as long as it uses a USB. There's a small zippered pocket inside the bag to hold the battery, saving you room in your bag. The USB port is on the outside of the suitcase, but the charger cord is stored safely away inside. It's compact, hides annoying cords, and even has a silicone cover to protect the charging port when not in use. 

I've dragged it over stairs and streets, and even dropped it a few times, but the suitcase hasn't dented and the wheels are totally fine 

As a frequent traveler, I care most about durability. The Traveler's Choice Smart USB suitcase checks that box with ease.

During my road trip, I carried the bag up to the fifth floor of a hotel, banged it around in the trunk of a car, rolled it off curbs and down stairs, and knocked it over more than a few times. The suitcase shows absolutely zero dents and the wheels are functioning as they did on day one, despite being wheeled over dirt, rocks, and plenty of potholes.

It has a few small scratches and smudges that are only noticeable up-close, so I'm certain that it's going to last through several years of heavy use. I haven't found many immediate downsides of this bag yet, though durability issues probably won't show themselves for some time.

It doesn't come with its own battery pack, so you'll need to buy your own 

From an aesthetic standpoint, it isn't totally scratch-proof, as I dropped it face-down onto a gravel path and it now has a very small mark. While scratches don't matter to me at all, someone very concerned with aesthetics may get a bit annoyed by them.

My biggest complaint is around the length of the pull-up handle. It's fine for me at five-foot-seven, but someone over 6-feet tall may find that it's a bit too short.

It also doesn't come with the battery pack. To me, this should've been included as it makes it cheaper and more convenient for travelers who don't have a backup power source.  

Though I find $130 a reasonable price given all the features, it's definitely not cheap, but depending on the size you need, it can start at $80 and go up to $180. But it does have all the features I was looking for at my budget, and the built-in USB port came in handy on my very first trip with the suitcase, so I'd definitely recommend it to any traveler.

The Wellington suitcases have  a ribbed shell made from Polycarbonate . It will bend under pressure, so it is less likely to break than a plain plastic shell. In addition to that, the shell has a metallic finish with a brushed texture, that makes all scuffs and scratches less visible.

This luggage features  an aluminum wheel handle that locks into multiple height stages . And the suitcases also have single spinner wheels, which make them really easy to maneuver.

These Traveler’s Choice suitcases also have  a TSA lock – a must for all of you who frequently fly to the United States.  The  i nterior of these includes two packing compartments with expandable capacity. The top one has a zippered divider with two large pockets, while the bottom compartment has elastic tie-down straps and a few pockets.

There’s also something really unique in the bottom compartment of these –  detachable dividers. They allow you to basically separate a packing compartment into two parts, which is amazing for the organization.  The largest suitcase has two of them, while the smaller two feature just one. Traveler’s Choice Tasmania

The Tasmania suitcases are  Polycarbonate hardshells with lots of useful features.  The design of their shells is one of those – it has  a diamond-cut pattern which really helps make it scratch-resistant. Plus, since it is made from a PC, you expect these suitcases to be very durable and sturdy.

Each one of these Traveler’s Choice suitcases has  four double spinner wheels,  which give you great maneuverability of your luggage. Plus, they have  aluminum wheel handles that you can adjust to multiple height positions.  And with a couple of non-slip grab handles, traveling with these suitcases should feel effortless.

They feature  TSA-friendly combination locks , which give you peace of mind when you travel. And what’s really useful is that  all three suitcases have an add-a-bag strap.  This allows you to attach an additional bag to the top of the suitcase so that moving around with several bags is easier.

Or, if you are actually traveling with all three Tasmania suitcases, you can attach them to one another and maneuver all three with just one arm.

Their interior consists of  two fully lined packing compartments with expandable capacity.  The top one has a full panel divider with two zippered mesh pockets, while the bottom one features tie-down straps and a single zippered pocket. Traveler’s Choice Barcelona

The Barcelona suitcases are a really interesting option. They’re not like the other Traveler’s Choice suitcases, since these feature a front-opening packing compartment. These are  made completely from Polycarbonate , so you know that they will be really durable and impact resistant. But they  don’t have corner guards , which is one thing I wish was different.

These suitcases are just amazing for the organization. You can actually use them several different ways – one way is to use them as a standard clamshell suitcase. But you also have the option of separating the bottom and the top packing compartment and using the top one as a separate compartment for your electronics.

Also, you can just turn everything into one large packing compartment, with lots of different pockets.

I really like this feature, and I think it allows everyone to choose how they want to pack and see what suits them best. It has two locks as well,  but they are plain key-locks which are TSA-compliant.  So, you will need to carry around the key (and hopefully not lose it).

The  wheels on the Barcelona suitcases are actually Dual Cyclone wheels. They are quiet and really smooth, and Traveler’s Choice is actually trying to patent them! Additionally, the telescopic handle is also completely their design – it curves downwards so that it fits the natural position of your arms and puts less strain on them.

Overall, if you don’t mind the somewhat higher price tag, I would definitely recommend these suitcases!

Traveler’s Choice Bell Weather

The Bell Weather suitcases are a good affordable option. They are  made from Polycarbonate and they have metallic ribbed shells,  which do a great job at hiding all the little scuffs and scratches. Actually, they remind me a lot of the  Rimowa Topas luggage – due to the colors, design, and appearance of their exterior.

These suitcases are actually quite cheap, which is not something you can say about the Rimowa Topas. And these have zippered closures, including a TSA-friendly combination lock and an expansion zipper.

They feature double spinner wheels that roll smoothly, along with a telescopic wheel handle wit h adjustable height.  And one thing I really like about these suitcases is that  they actually have corner guards . These significantly improve their impact resistance and make the luggage more durable.

The interior of these suitcases features  two fully lined packing compartments . With navy blue lining –  similar to the Rimowa Topas , if I might add.

But, back to the Traveler’s Choice suitcases – they have an expandable capacity and two zippered pockets on the divider in the top compartment.

Traveler’s Choice La Serena

The last, but definitely not the least, hardsides from Traveler’s Choice we’ll check out are the La Serena suitcases . They feature  a polycarbonate shell with a diamond-cut texture that is super easy to clean, and that makes any scratches less visible. If only they had reinforced corners, right?

One interesting feature of these suitcases is the  anti-theft zipper.  It is a  burst-resistant double coil zipper, which stands up well against thieves.

The suitcases also have  a TSA-friendly lock and has double spinner wheels that allow for effortless maneuvering,  especially in combination with the  telescopic wheel handle . Plus, the handle locks into multiple positions, so it should be fairly easy to adjust to fit your height.

The interior consists of  two packing compartments with expandable capacity,  and it’s actually pretty much the same as the interior of the Bell Weather suitcases. The top compartment has a zippered divider, as well as two mesh zippered pockets on it. And the bottom divider has tie-down straps that will keep your belongings in place.

Softshell Suitcases

Traveler’s choice cornwall.

The Cornwall luggage is constructed from high-density polyester. The suitcases are pretty lightweight and super durable and reliable, due to their sturdy construction. They also feature  four double spinner wheels that glide smoothly and quietly.  You don’t see these too often on softshell luggage, and it’s always a nice surprise when you do!

All Cornwall suitcases have  add-a-bag straps , which allow you to secure additional luggage on top of your suitcase. But it also allows you to chain several of these together – this is really useful if you travel with more than one suitcase.

The interior of these Traveler’s Choice suitcases is fully lined.  The packing compartment features  padded tie-down straps, which actually have pockets on them. There is also a slip-pocket inside the packing compartment, as well as  a suiter section  on the closing flap of the suitcase.

And if you don’t think that’s enough pockets, you’ll be happy to know that this luggage also features  external pockets . Two of them, to be precise, make organizing all of your stuff super easy. Oh, and the  capacity of the Cornwalls is expandable  – you can expand the capacity of these suitcases by an  additional 30%.

Traveler’s Choice Birmingham

The Birmingham suitcases are  made from 1680D polyester – a water-repellent fabric, which is highly durable . They are also  padded with EVA foam f or increased durability and improved impact resistance.

The only thing that’s missing from these is spinner wheels. Instead, you have two in-line skate wheels, which means you will have to tilt the suitcase to get them rolling. That’s not really the ideal convenience of traveling, but most people are usually okay with this. And the aluminum wheel handle is ergonomically shaped, so it should feel comfortable in your hands.

You can’t lock it in different height positions though, and that is one downside. But you do get some  comfortable and sturdy grab handle s,  so there’s that. And one thing I really like is the little  plastic feet – they allow your suitcase to stand upright when fully packed, and ensure that it won’t tilt or tip over.

I think you’ll find that especially useful when you decide to expand its capacity and pack more stuff than you should.

The  i nterior of these Traveler’s Choice suitcases is fully lined and it is actually pretty similar to the interior of the Cornwall. Both have padded-tie-down straps with mesh pockets and a slip pocket on the side of the packing compartment.

This suitcase also has a suiter section with a couple of mesh zippered pockets on the closure flap, which makes traveling organized super easy. And there are two external compartments, for all the things you accidentally forget to pack!

Traveler’s Choice Silverwood

The Silverwood suitcases are an interesting option. They actually come in both a softshell and a hardshell version. I wanted to show you the softshell version because the hardshell one is really similar to the Barcelona luggage. These also have  Dual Cyclone Spherical spinner wheels that roll quietly and smoothly, as well as the T-Cruiser ergonomic handle system for effortless maneuvering.

The Traveler’s Choice patented handle system is designed to maximize the space inside the suitcase, while still allowing you to carry a second bag on top of your luggage. Plus,  the handle itself can be locked in several height positions, so you can easily adjust it to fit you right.

These are also  some of the lightest softside suitcases we check out in this review , which gives them a big advantage. And they also have  rubberized corner guards, which improve their overall durability. I would definitely recommend these suitcases if you’re looking for some high-quality softshells!

Their packing compartment is pretty spacious and it has expandable capacity.  There is one pocket inside the actual compartment, and several zippered ones on the closing cover. Oh, and  a bunch of external pockets and compartments,  that really make it easy to organize all of your stuff.

Traveler’s Choice Amsterdam

The Amsterdam suitcases are a great choice if you want to get a set. For about $100 you can get an 8-piece luggage set, which includes three suitcases, packing cubes, and a rolling under-seater. I  think that’s excellent value for money, especially considering all the rave reviews this luggage has.

The suitcases are made from 1200D two-tone Polyester, which is a pretty sturdy material. And they have EVA foam padded front panels, for improved protection and impact resistance. The overall exterior of the luggage is actually pretty durable – apart from  the in-line skate wheels , that is. They are generally less durable than spinner wheels but are luckily really easy to fix.

One thing that’s really useful about this luggage, especially if you actually decide to get the set, is that  all three suitcases have an add-a-bag strap. This makes traveling with multiple bugs much more convenient and frees up your hands. You can maneuver your luggage with just one  telescopic wheel handle that locks into the extended position.

The  capacity of these Traveler’s Choice suitcases is expandable.  They have a single packing compartment with tie-down straps, which is pretty normal for softside luggage. Plus, they have  multiple pockets.  Two slip internal pockets and a large zippered one, and then also at least three external pockets, depending on the size you get.

Traveler’s Choice Conventional II

The Conventional II suitcases are a good option if you want to get some professional-looking luggage. These are simple, sleek, and yet really practical. They are made from 1200D Polyester, so they are actually pretty durable . Also, the  hardware on this luggage is industrial strength , which tells you a lot about how sturdy they are.

They feature  in-line skate wheels,  which is a bummer. But at least they are  quiet and roll smoothly . However, that still means you will need to tilt the suitcases to get them rolling and your arms might not like that.

But at least you have a sturdy telescopic wheel handle that locks into position when extended, for smooth maneuvering.  And all suitcases have  add-a-bag straps , that make traveling with several pieces of luggage feel no different than traveling with a single suitcase.

There are two external pockets on these Traveler’s Choice suitcases, which are medium-sized. Perfect for any last-minute items you forgot to pack. Also, their  capacity is expandable by an additional 30% , so you won’t have any issues with bringing back more items than you originally left fit!

What’s going on inside the suitcases? Well, they have  one large packing compartment with tie-down straps  to keep your things in place. There is also a large mesh pocket on the top cover of the suitcase, but that’s pretty much it, in terms of internal pockets.

What To Look For

Hardside or softside.

This is usually the hardest decision. On the one hand, hardsides are more durable than softsides and they last longer. But they are also more expensive. But then again, softsides are better for organization and they are usually lighter. So how do you choose?

Simple. If you frequently check your suitcase at an airport, then you need to get a hardside. No doubt about that. Hardshell luggage handles being thrown around by baggage handlers are a lot better than softshell luggage, and it will last you longer.

For any other use, it comes down to your personal preferences. And I would recommend you consider which features you really want to have – is it an external compartment? Expandable capacity? Multiple dividers and pockets? If you manage to find a suitcase that has everything you want and you don’t intend to check it at an airport, then it doesn’t really matter if it is a softshell or a hard shell .

Which Size Should I Buy?

Depends on a few things. First, it  depends on the length of your trips – if you don’t go really go away for longer than a week at a time, you’ll be fine with a carry-on. But if you are planning a longer trip soon, or need to share the suitcase with someone, then you should definitely check out the larger luggage.

It also depends on how you travel.  If you usually fly places, then there are all those rules and regulations to consider. A carry-on is the easiest option – you won’t have to pay any extra fees and you never have to worry about the safety of your luggage, since it’s right next to you in the cabin.

But with the larger suitcases, overpacking is always a concern. And then you have to weigh your suitcase and make sure that you are within the airline’s weight limit for checked bags. Otherwise, you’re out another $50.

So, if you usually go on shorter trips and don’t really bring a lot of stuff with you, then definitely get a carry-on.  You’ll get more use out of it, and also better value for money. Just keep in mind that  the dimensions I’ve listed in the mini-reviews refer to the dimensions of the entire suitcase, including the wheels and the handle. The actual packing compartments are slightly smaller.

Most of this doesn’t apply to you if you don’t really spend a lot of time on airlines. If you tend to drive places or travel by bus and train, then the one thing you should consider is the convenience of travel. To clarify – I made the mistake of traveling alone by train with a 30” suitcase once in my life. And my arms were sore for the next week.

How Durable Does Your Suitcase Need To Be?

Obviously, you want a suitcase that you can use for years. But you don’t always need an ultra-durable suitcase. And if you are aware of just how durable your suitcase needs to be, then you’ll easily get the best value for money.

If you’re planning on  f lying somewhere and you will need to check your suitcase, then a Polycarbonate hardside is your best option.  Their shells are flexible and impact-resistant, which is exactly what you want out of a checked bag. You will pay more for it now, but it will last you longer than any other type of suitcase would.

On the other hand , if you want to get a carry-on or you don’t really fly that often, then you can settle for a less sturdy suitcase. And ultimately save some money.

The reason why checked baggage needs to be exceptionally durable is that baggage handlers often throw it around. A softshell suitcase is not made to endure that – it will get squished and probably ripped super easily. The same goes for ABS suitcases – even though they are more durable than softsides, they don’t have the best impact resistance.

So, definitely check the materials that the luggage you are eyeing is made from. If you need super durability,  go for a hardside that’s pure Polycarbonate or at least an ABS/PC mixture.  But if your suitcase won’t be thrown around ruthlessly, then you’re fine with a plain ABS hardshell, or just some classic Polyester softshells.

Are The Sets Really Worth It?

They usually are. If you need to buy more than one suitcase, then I would definitely recommend a set.

Sometimes you’ll see that buying a set of three suitcases is actually cheaper than getting two individual suitcases. And I think that’s great value for money, even if you don’t really need that third suitcase. You can always gift it to someone, or just sell it and earn some money back!

Take a look at  the Wellington luggage – for $130 you can get two individual suitcases. But for an additional $10 you can get a set of all three.  And if that’s not really good value for money, I don’t know what is!

Sets are also the better option if you’re traveling with a friend or a partner and you both need new suitcases.

Traveler’s Choice Luggage Reviews: Our Top Choices

Still not sure what your best options are? Well, let me tell you about my four top choices.

Let’s start with the hardshells.  My overall favorite suitcase was definitely the Traveler’s Choice Barcelona . It has some really unique features that make it stand out, and that actually seem really interesting.

I love how you can transform the interior of the suitcase however you please – it can be two regular packing compartments, a giant one, or a small packing compartment and multiple additional ones. Plus, it has innovative wheels and a handle that make it effortless to move around the airport with it, which is exactly what you want!

And now  about the softshells – overall, my favorite suitcase was the Silverwood .  It has the same Traveler’s Choice patented features as the Barcelona hardshell, which is pretty amazing.

Plus, its corners are rubberized, and that significantly improves its durability and impact resistance – perhaps what you worry about the most with softside luggage. These have lots of different pockets and compartments, so they are also really good for traveling organized.

2024 Travelers Championship odds, picks, field: Surprising predictions by golf model that's nailed 13 majors

Sportsline's proven model simulated the travelers championship 2024 10,000 times and revealed its surprising pga tour golf picks.

The 2024 Travelers Championship will be the eighth and final Signature Event on the PGA Tour calendar this year and play begins Thursday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. Rory McIlroy is opting out after missing short putts on 16 and 18 to lose the 2024 U.S. Open, but the Travelers Championship 2024 field is still absolutely loaded. Seven of the top 10 players in the world will tee it up this week, as will defending champion Keegan Bradley.

Bradley scored his sixth career PGA Tour win last season at TPC River Highlands and he's listed as a 55-1 underdog in the 2024 Travelers Championship odds. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the 4-1 favorite and he's followed by Xander Schauffele (15-2), Ludvig Aberg (16-1) and Collin Morikawa (16-1) in this week's PGA Tour odds. Top 2024 Travelers Championship predictions 

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Travelers Championship: Schauffele, the 2022 champion of this event and one of the top favorites, stumbles and barely cracks the top five. Schauffele won his first major at the PGA Championship in May and he's had success at TPC River Highlands in his career. He also enters this week's event full of confidence having finished T-8 or better in each of his last four starts on the PGA Tour.

However, Schauffele has recorded just one win in his last 42 starts on tour and he enters the Travelers Championship ranked outside the top 30 in both driving accuracy (67.17%) and one-putt percentage (42.37%). He also ranks 168th in approaches from 50-125 yards (22'9) this season, which doesn't bode well for Schauffele's chances to finish on top of the leaderboard this week. See who else to fade here .

Another surprise: Tony Finau, a 35-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The 34-year-old is currently ranked No. 19 in the Official World Golf Ranking and 15th in the FedEx Cup standings after a t-3rd finish at the U.S. Open last week. He's now finished top-20 in his last four starts and has four top-10 finishes this season.

Finau is a six-time PGA Tour winner and he'll be hoping to use his elite ball striking to navigate a tight golf course this week, with TPC River Highlands measuring just over 6,800 yards but featuring four-inch rough that is incredibly penal. Finau ranks fifth on the PGA Tour this season in strokes gained: tee-to-green (1.379) and he's third in strokes gained: approach (0.875).  See who else to back here .
