If you travel, you know how important the right bag (or bags) is. That’s why I often reach for my essential Baggallini bags — a crossbody purse and a durable, rightly sized tote bag. They’re great for everything from an international adventure to a road trip to an overnight trip.

I took a Baggallini crossbody purse and tote bag on the biking trip my husband Dean and I took to Slovenia, Austria, and Italy . I also took the bags on our biking trip to Ireland, where we traveled from southern Cork to the Cliffs of Moher , then to the Aran Islands , and the lovely northwestern Connemara Region . 

I reached for my Baggallini bags again when Dean and I headed out on road trips across the United States, and they were with me as we were strolling Joe Riley Waterfront Park in Charleston; touring the Continental Divide in Wyoming; grabbing lunch at the Crab Shack on Tybee Island , Georgia; exploring Grand Prismatic Spring (my favorite) in Yellowstone National Park, traipsing across America’s highest suspension footbridge at Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina; hiking Patapsco Valley State Park near Ellicott City, Maryland , and more.

I purchased my first Baggallini bag years ago and have been adding it to my collection ever since. I own three Baggallini purses (black, tan, and black print) and a gray tote bag. Guess you could say I’m a fan!

The Criss Cross Body bagg

The Baggallini Criss Cross Bagg  is aptly named because the purse has two primary compartments that visually cross each other. There’s also a third place for storage between the compartments.

This Cross Over Crossbody  purse is like the tan and black print bags I have. This updated design w idens at the bottom to maximize storage capability, which is a smart idea.

This Avenue Tote Bag  is a great size. I use my tote bag often, including my carry-on bag on international flights, and it’s perfect for that.

1. Travel-Friendly Sizes

These bags are sized to hold everything I need without being too bulky. That means I can get what I need into and out of my crossbody purse and tote bag without a struggle.  

2. Lightweight

The fabric is lightweight, so I’m not weighed down when we are on the go. Dean and I like to “see what there is to see” when we travel, and I need a bag that keeps up. Of course, I can’t blame Baggallini for what these bags weigh once I’ve filled them, but that’s another story for another day.

3. Great Design

These bags are well-designed. Numerous exterior compartments help me stay organized. Inside, there’s a standard zippered pocket for items I want to keep more secure. I think these bags are practical, functional, and beautiful.

4. Durability

These bags are durable. In all our travels , they hold up to being tossed around and/or on the car floor and/or squished in the back of the car when someone (who shall remain nameless, but it’s not Dean) overpacks. Since Dean “sees in cubes,” he can pack a car to maximize square footage and the soft-sided tote bag sometimes ends up pressed in between more rigid things.

5. RFID Assurance

The inside, zippered pocket on the Cross Over Crossbody bag is RFID protected, which sounds like a good idea when I read the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) description from the Department of Homeland Security . Plus, extra assurance against credit card theft never hurts. 

6. Water-Resistant Nylon Fabric

Sometimes weather forecasters don’t get it right and you get stuck in a surprise rain shower. The nylon fabric of these bags repels water. They are not waterproof, but they are water resistant, and that helps when the weather is a surprise.

7. Easy Care

With a Baggallini bag, you don’t have to worry about every spill. The Cross Over Crossbody Bag needs to be spot cleaned; the Criss Cross Bag and Avenue Tote are machine washable. Find details on both methods here . Either way, these bags are easy to care for and clean.

8. Lots Of Colors

Sometimes, you want a basic, classic color that pairs effortlessly with everything. Sometimes, you want a bag that makes more of a statement. Perhaps that’s why I find myself with three Baggallini crossbody purses!

In any case, Baggallini has got you covered. As of this writing, the crossbody purses come in at least six colors and the tote bag has a dozen colors and patterns to choose from. There’s sure to be one that’s just right for you.

9. High Quality

The quality of these bags is obvious. The hardware is made of metal, the zippers are fluid and smooth open-and-close, the seams are sturdy, and the bags can hold up to the rigors of travel.

10. Baggallini’s One-Year Warranty

Baggallini backs their quality with a one-year warranty . I’ve never had to take them up on this, but it’s reassuring to know they stand behind their products.

11. Free Replacement Strap And Hardware Policy

Baggallini has a generous replacement strap and hardware policy. “If the style is still available, we can provide replacement straps for products that have a detachable strap, missing or lost screws from the turn toggle, or missing or lost buckles, at no extra charge.” See the website for full details.

What’s better than buying a beautiful, quality Baggallini bagg? Buying one on sale. Check the sale section of their website and see what’s being offered, because it changes from time to time. Who doesn’t love a deal?  

13. The Baggallini Story

The Baggallini story is unique. “Our entrepreneurial female founders were two global travelers who leveraged insights from around the world to create bags that help women feel organized, confident, and prepared for anything, whether it be a trip around the block or the globe.” 

Note: “Baggs” is not a typo. This is how Baggallini refers to their bags, or should I say baggs?

Those are the 13 reasons why I consider my Baggallini crossbody purses and tote bags my travel essentials, and I don’t take many trips without them.

When you travel across town or the world, an important part of travel is having the right gear and staying organized. A trip loses its luster when you are constantly misplacing things and digging through your bags to try to find something you need. That’s where Baggallini comes in.

The Best Room At... The Fifth Avenue Hotel

This hotspot is everyone's favorite new Manhattan hotel. Come for the martini, stay for the pleated silk ceilings.

Perhaps you fell deeper in delight with the place when that martini prompted you to order the "hot dog au poivre" from the bar snacks menu, or when you strolled down the hall to your reservation at Cafe Carmellini and had your first encounter with the "Duck-Duck-Duck Tortellini."

But what really seals the deal, what makes it the hotel you will begin to recommend most consistently to visiting friends, is an overnight stay among the seemingly bottomless trove of whimsical Martin Brudnizki design details, from pleated silk ceilings to peacock emblazoned wallpapers to cheeky brass sconces. (Don't sleep on the olfactory delights either -- you can buy the hotel's intoxicating scent in candle form at the front desk). There is no bad room—not even a boring corner—of this hotel but, nevertheless, we forced the hotel's founder, Alex Ohebshalom, to pick his favorite.

What do you consider to be the best room at the Fifth Avenue Hotel and why?

This is like asking me which of my children I like best! If I had to choose I’d say The Fifth Avenue Suite. This is such a special suite, located in the historic mansion building of the hotel. It occupies an entire wing of the building with views overlooking Fifth Avenue and down towards Madison Square Park. It has a truly residential layout, with the living room and interior hallway connecting to the grand bathroom and corner bedroom; it is a quintessential NY pied-à-terre.

How much does it cost per night?

$3,500++ how would you describe the vibe at the hotel.

Residential, warm and whimsical. One often feels that they’ve been transported to somewhere beautifully familiar and inviting…where home meets fantasy.

What was the genesis of this hotel?

Ten years ago, feeling distracted and disconnected, I set off for Southeast Asia, which forced me to immerse myself into a foreign culture, where I learned to savor experiences—the smell, the feel, the taste of, say, a home cooked meal—hearing the story of a family: their past, their present and their dreams. Learning to be fully in the moment provoked a kind of nostalgia in me. I recalled my childhood when I was wide-eyed and curious, taking everything in with the child-like openness of discovery. Reading Baudelaire at the time, I discovered the ‘flâneur’ character—an observer fully immersed in his surroundings. I became fascinated with the idea of translating this living, breathing notion into an experience. It’s what I believe is missing from luxury hospitality. At The Fifth, our intention is to create the luxury of an atmosphere where guests can slow down and enjoy themselves, using all five senses, for their own enrichment and enchantment.

Give us an interesting tidbit about the amazing design throughout the hotel.

Where to start?! The hotel is truly a discovery; you could find something new every time you walk through its trove of beautiful spaces. I’m very proud of the art program at The Fifth Avenue Hotel. We have over 600 unique works of art throughout the hotel, it really is incredibly layered. Working with Martin Brudnizki we created so many bespoke pieces for the hotel and collaborated with exceptional artisans from around the world. We spent two years developing the mother of pearl inlaid bar carts that you will find in guestrooms. For the elevator banks (yes, we truly considered every space in the hotel!), we worked with artisans from Paris to do the pleating of the pink silk walls and ceiling…a very unique and technical process.

What do you think gives the property such a unique identity?

We are independent and truly chart our own course. You feel that when you walk it and you feel it in the exceptional service from our staff who are more like caretakers– there is a distinctly warm and personalized touch that you don’t often find in city hotels.

I think that our food and beverage offering is unmatched and offers some of the most exciting culinary experiences in New York. Our signature restaurant, Café Carmellini is named for Chef Andrew Carmellini and under his outstanding direction, our menu blends his career fostered in kitchens throughout New York City into a modern setting, taking guests on a journey through his rich history and showcasing the essence of traveling with The Fifth. And The Portrait Bar comes to life through Bar Director Darryl Chan’s sophisticated cocktails.

We also offer some of the city’s most unique places to gather – whether that is over a coffee in the light and airy Conservatory, a private dinner in our Cellar (with original bank vaults we preserved during construction) or a more formal affair in our Fifth Avenue-facing ballroom.

What's your perfect Fifth Avenue Hotel-based day?

After you check into the hotel and settle in, have our signature Martini Ritual in your suite. Saunter downstairs for an exceptional culinary experience with your dinner at Café Carmellini and finish off the evening with a night cap at The Portrait Bar. I love the Avenue Two Travel Team. I work with them for all of my travel planning.  Every business trip and every personal/leisure trip.  They always get me room upgrades, better seats on flights, and amenities when I check into hotels.  I highly recommend them for anyone looking to book any travel.  I don't know how they do it but always surprise me with extras that I wouldn't get if I booked on my own. My wife and I have been working with Marcie Kotler at Avenue Two Travel for many years. These days it's easy to book a trip online but without the experience of a seasoned travel advisor, it's also easy to make a mistake and pick the wrong resort or a flight that has a bad connection at an overly busy airport. We once got a free room upgrade at a hotel in Paris that was the nicest room I've ever stayed in because Marcie had spoken personally to the property manager on our behalf. That is the kind of service that keeps me coming back. Marcie has been an invaluable ally in getting us out of some problem situations. Most recently, Marcie helped us unravel a family trip to Italy that was cancelled as a result of the pandemic. I would have never been able to navigate all the airline and resort cancellation rules to get my money back without an advocate like Avenue Two Travel.   • References to “us”, “we” and/or “our” in these Booking & Advisory Services Terms and Conditions means Mainpath Pty Ltd trading as Travel Avenue and all associated companies.
  • We are a travel agent. We arrange travel services and sell a Travel Product on behalf of Third Party Travel Providers ( Providers ) including airlines, tour and cruise operators, car hirers and accommodation providers. We charge a service fee for providing this service.
  • Once we have booked a Travel Product on your behalf, your contract is then with the Provider of those services.
  • Your rights to amend or cancel your Travel Booking and the cost of doing so will be governed by the Provider’s terms and conditions. The Provider’s terms and conditions may be non-refundable or may have amendment and cancellation fees. It is important that you understand this when entering into a contract with us. These fees are in addition to amendment and cancellation fees charged by us, outlined in the Schedule of Professional Service Fees.
  • We provide you with Booking & Advisory Services that allow you to acquire Travel Products from a Provider. We act as agent for the Provider.
  • By acquiring Booking & Advisory Services from us, you agree that you have read and understood our terms and conditions and the terms and conditions of the Providers.

Fees and Commissions

  • We charge a fee for providing the Booking & Advisory Services to you. The fee is non-refundable, even if the Travel Product is not used.
  • All fees are outlined in the Schedule of Professional Service Fees.
  • We may receive a commission, fee, rebate, gift or financial incentives from Providers, in respect of your booking. Any commission, gift, fee, rebate and/or financial incentive received by us from Providers in relation to your booking is non-refundable in the event of cancellation.

Liability of Agency and Limitations of Liability

  • We are liable to you for providing Booking & Advisory Services in accordance with these terms and conditions.
  • will be provided with due care and skill;
  • will be reasonably fit for the specified purpose;
  • can reasonably be expected to achieve the desired result; and
  • will be provided within a reasonable time.
  • If we do not meet any of the expectations set out in paragraph 11, you have rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
  • Subject to the Australian Consumer Law, we are not liable for any technical errors, corruption of any data, unauthorised access to your personal data, inaccuracies in information supplied by you or third parties, or failure to complete bookings when that failure is due to circumstances beyond our control.
  • the delivery or non-delivery of the Travel Product; or
  • any act or omission of Providers or other third parties.
  • Apart from the rights you have under the Trade Practices Act that cannot be lawfully excluded, we shall not be liable for any inconvenience, delay, loss, death, injury or damage to you or your belongings or otherwise caused directly or indirectly by the acts, omissions or default, whether negligent or otherwise, of third party suppliers, force majeure or any other event which is beyond our control.
  • Nothing in these terms and conditions is intended to exclude or restrict the application of consumer guarantees under consumer protection law.

Liability of the Provider

  • Once you have acquired Booking & Advisory Services from us, the Provider will provide you with the Travel Product on the terms and conditions agreed between you and the Provider. You should obtain and read the Provider’s terms and conditions before acquiring Booking & Advisory Services from us.
  • The Provider is liable to you for a breach of obligations in providing you with the Travel Product.
  • As an agent of the Provider, we have no control over or liability for, the services provided by Providers. We cannot guarantee the performance of the Provider and we have no liability in respect of the supply of any Travel Products including any liability in contract, tort or otherwise, for any injury, damage, loss, delay, additional expense or inconvenience caused directly or indirectly by any provider of travel services or products by Providers. All bookings with us are subject to the terms and conditions and limitations of liability imposed by the Provider.

Booking Terms

  • The Travel Products offered are subject to availability and can be withdrawn without notice by the Provider. Travel Products may also change at any time in accordance with the Providers terms and conditions.
  • When making a booking, you must provide details of each traveller correctly. We have no responsibility for any loss or damage arising from the incorrect entry of a traveller’s details.
  • Travel Products obtained through the Booking & Advisory Services are not guaranteed until payment has been made in full and documents have been processed.
  • It is your responsibility to contact the Provider prior to departure to ensure there is no change to the scheduled departure time.
  • Most airlines offer only electronic confirmation of your reservation, or ‘e-ticketing’. We cannot be held responsible if your e-ticket does not arrive due to an incorrect email address or your junk email settings. You must notify us immediately if you change your email address or contact telephone number after making a booking. It is your responsibility to advise us if you have not received your e-ticket confirmation.
  • When making a booking you must advise your consultant of any medical, dietary or mobility conditions you may have.
  • When making a booking you must advise us if you are pregnant.

Payment Terms

  • All pricing is reflected in Australian Dollars unless otherwise specified.
  • All pricing is inclusive of goods and services tax (GST), or other such value added taxes where applicable.
  • Payments processed in foreign currency (currency other than the original card holders country of issue), may incur a currency conversion fee. Please refer to your financial institution for applicable fees.
  • We sell Travel Products in two different ways:
  • as merchant, where we take payment directly from you at the time of booking confirmation; or
  • as retail, where your Travel Product will either be paid to the Provider directly at the time of booking or payable to the Provider on the date of travel.
  • Travel Products purchased in accordance with the ‘retail’ method, will not be bound by these terms and conditions and you are responsible for pursuing any claims of cancellation, re-scheduling, refunds or chargebacks directly with the merchant.
  • As the merchant we are governed by the terms and conditions of the provider of the merchant facility.
  • A credit card or debit card fee may also be charged by certain Providers and low cost carriers. You will be notified of such charges prior to your purchase
  • All charges, including the credit card fees, may be in another currency (e.g. EUR), which we will provide an estimate for in Australian dollars.

Refunds and Credits

  • If you cancel your Travel Product, your right to a refund or credit is subject to the terms and conditions of the Provider.
  • If the Provider is required to provide you with a refund or credit for the Travel Product, we will liaise with the Provider to arrange that refund. Where you are entitled to a refund, we are unable to provide you with this refund until we receive it from the Provider. Please note that most Providers take 60 – 90 days to process any refund.
  • Any refund or credit will be subject to these terms and conditions and will not include the Booking & Service Advisory fee, credit card fees or any commissions received. You may also be charged a cancellation fee by the Provider.
  • Where refunds for unused services are allowed, a service fee may be charged by the Provider against the value of the refund.
  • If you have a booking for a Travel Product (including flights and accommodation) but you do not show up to check-in or otherwise do not avail yourself of such Travel Product, you will not be entitled to any refund from us.

Cancellation and Amendments

  • If you amend or cancel your Travel Product, we reserve the right to charge the cancellation and amendment fees as per the Schedule of Professional Service Fees.
  • The Provider may charge cancellation and amendment fees in accordance with the terms and conditions agreed between you and the Provider. These will be in addition to the fees charged by us. We are not liable for any cancellation fees or refusals to refund made by the Provider.
  • Many Providers treat name changes and route and/or itinerary alterations as a full cancellation and these can incur full cancellation charges.
  • We will not charge a cancellation or amendment fee if you cancel or amend your booking due to a breach by us of our obligations to you or due to our fault.

Cancellations and amendments for hotel bookings only

  • Please review the cancellation policy for your hotel booking for any penalties that may apply.

Force Majeure

  • We will not be liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations in booking the Travel Product that is due to events beyond our control.
  • If a force majeure event occurs that affects your booking, your entitlement to a refund, a credit or re-scheduled travel booking will depend on the Provider’s terms and conditions.
  • If your booking is impacted by a force majeure event and you are entitled to a refund or credit from the Provider, we will facilitate this refund or credit.
  • The Booking & Service Advisory fee, credit card fees or any commissions received are non-refundable in the circumstance that a force majeure event occurs.

Additional Airline Charges

  • Some Providers may also charge additional fees. Please check with the Provider for their full terms and conditions.

Hotel/Accommodation Bookings

  • Some Providers will require an additional charge to be paid locally (e.g. a resort fee) at the time of check in or check out. This amount is in addition to the amount shown during the booking process under the ‘total booking cost’ amount.
  • There may be taxes levied abroad but not paid at the point of purchase that are payable in relation to your hotel booking (e.g. local taxes, sales tax etc.). Any local taxes will be payable by you directly to the Provider at the time of check in/check out.

Changes in Price and Itineraries

  • We reserve the right to cancel your booking in the event we have reasonable grounds to believe it is fraudulent.
  • If a Provider changes any part of your booking for reasons beyond its control, we will use our reasonable endeavours to notify you. If any such changes result in your Travel Product costing more or otherwise being materially different, then you may cancel the Travel Product. Any refund would be subject to the Travel Provider terms and conditions.
  • These terms and conditions are subject to variation at any time. Any variation will be displayed here, and you will be deemed to have accepted a variation if you have made a booking after it has been displayed.

Your Obligations and Warranties

  • You warrant to us that:
  • you are at least 18 years old and have the power, capacity and authority to enter into a binding contract with us and with the Providers of the Travel Products that you acquire;
  • you have read and understood these terms and conditions and if booking on behalf of third parties, you have conveyed these terms and conditions to them;
  • the information you provide us about yourself is true, accurate, current and complete (apart from any optional items) as required by any registration process;
  • you have considered acquiring comprehensive travel insurance and we are not responsible for any failure by you to acquire adequate insurance cover; and
  • you will use the Booking & Advisory Services in accordance with these terms and conditions and you will not use the Booking & Advisory Services in any way to breach any laws or defame anyone.

Jurisdiction and Law

  • All matters arising out of or in connection with the Booking & Advisory Services and these terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Victoria, By acquiring the Booking & Advisory Services, you consent and submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the laws of Victoria, Australia.

Definitions

“ We ” and “ us ” means Mainpath Pty Ltd trading as Travel Avenue and all associated companies.

“ You ” or “ your ” means any user of our Website or any person who acquires the Booking & Advisory Services, including any person who acquires a Travel Product (whether or not the Booking & Advisory Services were acquired by another person).

“ Booking & Advisory Services ” means services provided by us to you in assisting you to acquire a Travel Product from a Provider and includes advisory and consulting services.

“Force Majeure” means, but not limited to: acts of God, accident, riot, war, terrorist act, epidemic, pandemic, quarantine, outbreaks of infectious disease or any other public health crisis, civil commotion, breakdown of communication facilities, natural catastrophes, adverse weather conditions, governmental acts or omissions, changes in laws or regulations, national strikes, fire, explosion and generalised lack of availability of raw materials or energy.

“ Travel Provider ” or “ Provider ” or “ Providers ” means the company or person who provides you with the Travel Product on terms and conditions agreed with you.

“ Travel Product ” means the service or product provided by a Provider, for example, an airline or a hotel.

“ Website ” means our website www.travelavenue.com.au

Schedule of Professional Service Fees

The following schedule of fees apply to travel bookings & associated services made with Travel Avenue, either “online” or “offline”. These Service Fees are charged per person in addition to those charged by airlines, tour operators and other travel service providers. All fees are inclusive of GST and non-refundable.

All bookings made with Travel Avenue are protected by our participation of Magellan Travel Group, AFTA Travel Accreditation Scheme (ATAS) and the Australian Federations of Travel Agents (AFTA).

Service Fees

$55 Domestic/Trans-Tasman airfare only per person

$55 Domestic/Trans-Tasman land arrangements only per person

$55 Domestic/Trans-Tasman frequent flyer reservation per person

$150 International airfare only per person

$150 International land arrangements per person

$150 International frequent flyer reservation per person

$55 Domestic or International rail only arrangements

$150 Late booking fee (travel within 14 days of enquiry)

Commitment Deposit

At the time of quoting, we ask a non-refundable $150 commitment deposit for the work put into research and information. Please note this is not an additional fee to the overall costing of your holiday and will come off the final balance.

Reservation Deposit

For all bookings, a payment of a deposit of $150 per passenger at time of booking. This deposit is non-refundable. Please note additional deposits may be required as outlined by booking provider.

Amendment Fee

Changes to International bookings and Domestic/Trans-Tasman bookings will incur a fee of $55 per passenger per booking in addition to Provider and any credit card fees.

Cancellation Fee

10% of the total balance of booking.

Processing Fee

$55 per person for international visa processing – this applies to both traditional “in passport” visas as well as online visa processing.

Paper Documentation Fee

$20 per documentation wallet.

Due to the travel restrictions that have been enforced by governments both in Australia and abroad due to Covid-19, we have amended our cancellation fee accordingly-

A 10% cancellation fee shall now be held by Travel Avenue – Italia Mia, and shall be available funds to be used for future travel. Credited amounts are valid for 3 years from the original date of cancelled holiday. If you are unable to make use of the credit, you may nominate the value for use towards another traveller (ie. Family member or friend).

Documentation

In an attempt to become more environmentally friendly, Travel Avenue – Italia Mia will now distribute documentation via a user friendly mobile phone application. Documents are available on the app, approximately 2 weeks before scheduled departure.

Some tours, rail tickets and cruises will require physical documentation, which shall be provided without a fee.

If you do require a hard copy of your e-documentation, please contact your consultant.
