  1. Should I watch TOS in its entirety or only a select number of ...

Start with the classics. Space Seed, Doomsday Machine, City on the edge of Forever, Corbomite Manuever, etc. TOS is SUPER episodic and doesnt really reward watching it in order. If you like the classics, then start filling out the remaining episodes and work your way through the series.

  2. Criticism of TOS Season 3 is Exaggerated : r/startrek

Criticism of TOS Season 3 is Exaggerated. I'm rewatching TOS which I have seen for the most part only as a kid in the eighties in syndication. I've been reading here about how bad Season 3 is but I am now on Ep. 7 and have already watched several really good episodes in this season. It's true that And The Children Shall Lead is terrible but ...

  3. 10 Harsh Realities of Rewatching Star Trek: The Original Series

6 Uhura Was a Great Character Who Rarely Got to Do Anything. While it was quite progressive for the time for Star Trek: The Original Series to have a Black woman among the main cast, Lt. Nyota Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) was often left with little to do. As a communications officer, she answered hails and declared hailing frequencies to be open ...

  4. TOS is so much better than i expected : r/startrek

TOS is much more consistent and actually raised my standards for trek! i dont really understand all the comments about how its aged poorly, how its difficult to watch, or even that its cheesy. i find that the writing is smart and tight, the performances are incredible, the aesthetic is bright while still retaining the eeriness of space, its ...

  5. Original TOS fx, good and bad….

Apr 2, 2023. #1. In another thread they're discussing the transporter fx and what people think of them.So here we can broaden the discussion. But here we talking about TOS' fx…and in extent we ...

  6. The biggest problem I always had with TOS is now no longer an issue

Star Trek has been predicting the future from the beginning. On screen = zoom. Communicators became cell phones. Talking to the computer is basically the norm and a lot of situations involving things like Alexa or Siri. Star Trek the next generation basically invented the iPad… Honestly, I look at it from the perspective of trailblazing.

  7. TOS Analysis (and comparison to TNG)

41 Episodes as "Stinkers / Not Rewatchable (23%) 98 episodes as "Average/Rewatchable" (56%) S3 and S5 are the only seasons that touch TOS (average scores for S2 TOS 2.2 and S3 of TOS 2.1, against S3 and S5 of TNG at 2.1 apiece) Nothing comes close to TOS season 1 with 2.3 average per episode, and 10 favorites.

Captain Robert April Vice Admiral Admiral. Joined: May 23, 2001. Location: In selfless service to fandom, on the road to beco. Depends on whether Freddie Freiberger would've still been around or if they could've coaxed Gene Coon back or promoted Bob Justman.

  9. 10 Biggest Differences Between Star Trek: TOS and The Next Generation

In Season 1 of Star Trek: The Next Generation, warp speed limits were firmly reestablished. The newer, bigger, and more advanced Enterprise-D could be pushed beyond its safety limits and go several decimals faster than Warp 9, but Warp 10 was well out of reach. Though, much like in The Original Series, warp speeds were still often plot ...

Trapped in an alien laboratory, Spock, Kirk, and McCoy are the subject of several experiments with an otherworldly life form simply referred to as an empath. 18. Is TOS "Turnabout intruder" really that bad? I heard people ...

It's only moderately bad TV, but it's DREADFUL Star Trek. TOS wasn't always great about women, being in the 60s and all, but aside from The Cage, the show clearly tries to scrape itself out as being pro-women. I think something like 1/3rd of the crew is supposed to be female, funny you mention Charlie X for all it's awful plot because it's an ...

  21. I Don't Care If Modern Star Trek Breaks Established Canon

It doesn't bother me when modern Star Trek strays from previously established canon. 25. Voyager Took Star Trek: TOS's Good & Evil Kirk To Another Level

A Star Trek: Voyager episode took Star Trek: The Original Series' good vs. evil Captain Kirk (William Shatner) to the next level. Voyager borrowed from TOS more than once in its first season, reworking concepts or exploring themes that TOS had first introduced but with a twist that always made them more interesting. One example of this was Voyager season 1, episode 14, "Faces," which dealt ...

  26. Star Trek TOS IS Suprisingly Good : r/startrek

It's a great episode which displays the central (and sadly quite unique) ethos of Star Trek very well: empathy, curiosity, rationality and understanding are the traits with which we should approach the world, its challenges and dangers. Just because something is threatening does not mean it is evil or needs to be fought aggressively.
