Expedia is an online travel agency (OTA) that might come up in your search when you’re searching for travel deals, including flights, hotels, rental cars, cruises, vacation packages and activities. In 2023, Expedia launched a loyalty program called One Key, allowing travelers to earn and redeem rewards across its three most popular brands: Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo.

Let’s take a look at how Expedia works and whether it’ll save you money.

Because Expedia is a travel agency, its website or app's travel search features will return you results from multiple companies. For instance, if you search for a hotel in Miami, Expedia will display options from brands like Marriott , IHG , Hilton and Hyatt , and even boutique hotels.

Booking on Expedia is much faster than going to each company’s individual website, since it can be a good way to compare prices from multiple options at once.

How to find and book travel on Expedia

Like other OTAs, you’ll book travel using Expedia’s website or app.

If you’re on a computer, once you’re on the site’s homepage, you can enter your search details. Expedia allows you to book hotels, flights, rental cars, cruises, vacation packages and even things to do.

Once you’ve completed your searching, you’ll be taken through the booking process. As an OTA, Expedia acts as the intermediary between you and the actual travel operators.

Many hotels and rental car agencies have restricted the ability to earn points or elite status credits when using an online travel agency for bookings. This does not generally apply to airlines, so you can usually still earn miles for flights booked through OTAs.

This means that if you were looking for a stay and chose to book a Marriott hotel through Expedia, Expedia would take your booking, head on over to Marriott to confirm availability, then process your reservation. It’ll then pass on those reservation details to the Marriott hotel.

You might be cautious of go-betweens or third-party booking sites, but Expedia is a legitimate, well-known online travel agency that’s been around for years. Microsoft originally launched the Expedia website in 1996. These days, Expedia is part of the larger Expedia Group, which includes brands such as Hotels.com , Orbitz, Hotwire, Travelocity, Vrbo and CarRentals.com.

All this is to say that Expedia is a reliable company. This isn’t some shady, fly-by-night operation.

However, you’ll always want to be careful when booking with a third party. It may be harder to change or cancel your reservation, and it might be wise to confirm any reservations directly with the travel operator. You’ll want to be sure that the details of your travel are correct and the reservation was actually made.

Expedia can offer cheap travel deals across the spectrum, but it doesn’t just stop at your booking. There are a few other ways to help pump up the savings on your vacations.

1. Use a travel credit card to get rewards

If you aren’t already using a credit card to book your travel, you ought to be. In addition to earning bonus points on your purchases, some credit cards provide travel insurance free of charge as long as you use the card to purchase the trip.

When booking your trips, use a credit card that maximizes earnings on travel. This includes options such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve® , which earns 3 Chase Ultimate Rewards® points per dollar spent on all travel.

NerdWallet values Chase points at 2.2 cents each if you take advantage of transfer partners. That means you’ll be getting a 7.8% return when using this card to book travel, including bookings made on Expedia.

2. Sign up for One Key Rewards

If you book any travel with Expedia, it’s worth it to sign up for One Key, the site’s free member rewards program. As a member, you’ll receive 2% OneKeyCash for each $1 you spend on travel as well as elite status based on each travel segment booked. One Key is a unified program for Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo, so the loyalty perks can be earned and redeemed across all three programs.

By signing up for One Key, you become a Blue member, which — according to Expedia — allows you to save at least 10% on more than 100,000 hotels globally. As you move up the tiers in status, your savings and benefits increase with higher discounts.

Triple-dip your reward earnings by stacking your credit card bonus points and One Key rewards by using a shopping portal when booking.

You can also opt to get an Expedia credit card if you really want to pledge your loyalty to the brand.

3. Take advantage of Expedia’s best price guarantee

Expedia has its own best price guarantee when booking hotels, which will refund you the difference in cost if you find a cheaper price elsewhere. There are restrictions for this process — the cheaper option must be identical to Expedia’s offering, and you must be able to provide proof. If you’ve found a lower price, submitting a claim for a price match can be a good way to save money on your hotel bookings.

However, before you go ahead with your Expedia booking, you’ll want to check the prices for hotels when booking directly. This is because major hotel chains such as Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott often not only match a lower price you found elsewhere, but they’ll also provide up to a 20% to 25% discount on the entire stay or bonus points.

4. Skip rental car insurance if you already have coverage

As we mentioned above, Expedia offers the ability to rent cars. Along with the booking, you can also opt to include extras, such as additional drivers and rental car insurance.

But is Expedia car rental insurance a good deal? Not usually — rather than paying extra for this benefit, use a travel card that offers complimentary rental car insurance . Expedia has grown to become one of many large travel brands under the Expedia Group designation. While booking travel via an OTA can save you money, you’ll always want to double check your reservations with the travel provider and only book reservations that you are fairly confident that you’ll keep. Canceling can be a huge headache.

However, when stacked together with multiple ways to earn rewards, Expedia can be a great way to save some money on your travels.

The first answer is more complex, but the second is easy – Expedia is for every type of traveler.

What is Expedia? The online booking platform is a one-stop-shop for booking hotels, flights, car rentals cruises and even experiences once you arrive at your destination. For the purposes of this review, we used Expedia to book a hotel, but the options really are endless and for every type of traveler.

Every type? Yes, indeed. Expedia can be used for luxury travel and packages that include all-inclusive resorts, fancy cars and even cruises. It can also be used to compare prices on budget hotels and find deals on flights.

To use the service, all you need is an email address to sign up, and then opt to use the website or download the mobile app for easy access when on the go.

Looking for flights can be a traveler’s worst nightmare, as there are an abundance of airlines to choose from and prices changing ever hour. Expedia knows this all too well, and so they created a page just for this.

Using the Flight section of the site, enter your origin, destination and dates like you would on any other site and then await the results from more than 400 airlines. If you have a preferred airline, you can filter by your top choices as well as your preferences for direct, layovers, flight times, baggage restrictions, seat selection and more.

Need to book a flight but have time to compare prices to snag the best? Then the Expedia price tracking feature is for you, using AI to predict the best time to book and sending you a notification once prices do indeed drop.

The best part of this style of booking is that you can browse, book and pay all on the same site, without having to switch tabs or lose your trip while comparing other site’s prices.

Next up, make sure you have a place to stay upon arrival. Head to the Stays section of the site to start browsing hotels, in the same manner as booking a flight from above. Once you enter your destination, the filters are a bit different, allowing you to sort by star-rating, guest-rating, amenities, accessibility and even by family-friendly, LGBTQIA+ welcoming and business-friendly, should you need to book a work trip.

Want to know how to stay like a VIP ? Good news, as with Expedia, you can become a very important traveler the moment you sign up. More information on rewards later, but note that properties marked as “VIP Access” denote properties with exceptional ratings that also come with additional perks the more you book with Expedia.

When booking a hotel, you will receive your confirmation code via email from Expedia, and then your booking will be sent over to the hotel for a seamless check-in. For assurance, you can also call the hotel directly to confirm they have your stay, using the confirmation codes via email.

Need wheels once you touch down? Book your car rental on Expedia, too, now that you know the drill. This service is just as user-friendly, and even lets you toggle on a filter to use AARP rates and other discount codes. You can also choose to use the same pick-up and drop-off location, or mix and match if your trip turns into a roadtrip.

Using this Expedia service, you are presented with the actual car that is available to rent at the location, date and time of your choosing. Their comprehensive fleet includes cars of all sizes, makes and models, spanning compact and economy cars, mid-sized and standard, luxury and convertibles and so much more. You can also sort by your favorite rental company, including Hertz, Alamo, Avis and others.

How does the Expedia rewards program work?

It’s actually quite simple! To start, all you need to do to join is create an account — which you already did if you have booked with Expedia before. You automatically qualify for the Blue rewards tier, that allows you to collect points for every dollar, double points when booking through the mobile app and unlocks an extra 10% savings or more on select hotels.

As you continue to stay and travel with Expedia, move up to the Silver and then the Gold tier, to unlock two to three points for every dollar spent, plus other perks like spa credits, free breakfast, late check-out and room upgrades. In addition to the perks, the points can then be redeemed for their dollar evaluation, being used to book future travel and stays.

Does Expedia offer travel insurance?

Travel safe and travel smart, knowing every leg of your journey can be insured.

When booking a hotel, flight or even car rental, there is an option to add on travel insurance. The price will be based on the price of your booking, or subject to change from destination to destination. However, you are always able to see the price before you book, should that influence your decision to insure the trip or rental.

The insurance coverage also varies, so it is recommended to read the fine print to see what is covered, such as lost baggage, medical emergency reimbursement and the like.

We get it, emergencies and accidents happen — no worries here.

Expedia has many properties and bookings with very generous cancelation policies, but note that they do vary location and property. When looking for a hotel, for example, be sure to use the “free cancelation” or the “no change fee” filter to avoid any issues should you think you may need to alter or cancel your trip.

For flights, be sure to read the fine print, as most flights are fully refundable if you cancel within a specific time, typically 24 hours. If the flight needs to be changed or canceled due to COVID-19, there is still hope if not within the 24-hour timeframe, and can contact Expedia to see your options for refunds or flight credits.

Why travel when you could make your hometown into the ultimate vacation spot? That’s what I chose to do when booking my NYC staycation on Expedia. After spending too long in my apartment, I decided to head into the city for a one-night booking at my favorite Soho hotel — The Dominick.

I knew I only wanted to stay one night, and so after entering in the dates of my stay, I was able to see which rooms were available with ease. You can also get a great idea of the layout and the view from your room right on the site, using the room option section to decide. Since New York is a city of skylines, I opted for a city view that 100% matched the photos.

When booking you can also see the amenities, for which I also chose the Dominick specifically. The Sisley Spa , housed on the seventh floor, is a dream, with a sauna, steam room, Hammam room and a salt chamber to name the rooms I tried. You can book this at the front desk, or via ResortPass , for a seamless day of contactless luxury.

Once I arrived, my booking was in their system already, and I didn’t even need to pull out my phone or any booking paperwork. I was able to ask the concierge for everything I needed, such as check-out time, but was also able to access that information myself on the Expedia app, should you prefer DIY service.

As usual, the stay itself was impeccable, complete with takeout for dinner and cable TV — the hallmarks of a great hotel stay in my book. Customer service was top notch as well, and I received the same (amazing) treatment as I would have if I booked my stay directly with the hotel, as opposed to a third party booking site. I felt comfortable asking the concierge about early check-in and late check-out, as well as getting a rundown of the amenities available to me like free coffee in the morning and use of the business center to write this very article.

While I never want to check-out, when the time came, I was able to gather my things and leave my key at the desk, never needing to open the Expedia app again — aside from leaving a five-star rating for my stay on my train home, back to reality and ready to book again.

We are a small motel with only 6 rooms…

We are a small motel with only 6 rooms that uses expedia.com, no choice because to many people use the booking sites. A reservation made at our business, commented they was bring an animal. We have a no pet policy, but greedy expedia would not refund that person and inform them that the reservation was not valid as they admitted they had intention to break our policy, putting us in a troubling predicament. The person booking is to blame also, there are plenty of bigger motels that allow pets. This person purposely provide a useless ph. # & email, we are sure so they could not be contacted to cancel the reservation.

I had a thread of trust in Expedia…

I had a thread of trust in Expedia until this last reservation where the advertised price, right there! on the page staring at me! screenshot captured! kept mysteriously jacking up as I entered my c.c. number. Yet, when I repeated the search, the price was back down! Ripoffs! Hiding in their corporate suites, hiring crooked programmers to fleece us all!

Void expedia at all costs.

Avoid using expedia at all cost theres many other websites to book flights, hotels, etc. I recently and hesitantly booked a flight through expedia. Due to a technical error expedia, out of nowhere charged me for 6 additional return flights at an expense of $960. Its already almost time for the trip and after numerous calls and promises the money is going to be refunded I still havent seen that money back in my account. Flat out thieves. i will be taking legal action if money not return after i come back.

Expedia & American Airlines

We booked American Airlines premium economy seats with Expedia and the option included "Seat choice included". We were told we would have to contact the airline to select our seats. American Airlines said that we would have to pay to select our seats. The individuals operating the chat at Expedia disconnect the chat so that you don't have to speak to you. The answer they provided is that "Seat choice included" means that we have the ability to pay for our seat selection. I will never use Expedia again.

Expedia will do anything to rip you off!

Expedia will do anything to rip you off!! I can’t believe airlines still use them. You won’t find delta on there though lol. I bought non stop tickets and apparently they became unavailable, so instead of telling me that and giving me a refund, Expedia just gave me the next bs tickets they had with stops and 3 hour layovers both ways. Also changed the times and they didn’t work for our trip. After hours of arguing they gave me only half my refund.

DO NOT USE EXPEDIA IF YOU ARE A WOMAN TRAVELLING ALONE.

DO NOT STAY AT THE DAYS INN WYNDAM ON AIRPORT ROAD IN ALLENTOWN PENNSYLVANIA! If there was damage why weren't the police called? I am filing a report with the state police, so hopefully no one else will suffer the damage that I have.

We used expedia to book three different…

We used expedia to book three different hotels for an upcoming trip. One of our travelers had emergency surgery two weeks ago, and we had to postpone our plans. The airline, all the hotels we scheduled through booking.com, and the rental car company were sympathetic and assisted us in canceling everything. The two properties we booked through expedia refused to do so, even though in two cases, the hotels were willing to do so if expedia contacted them, which they did not. This is an untrustworthy, money-grabbing business, which should not only be avoided, but should probably be sued for fraud.

SHAME ON EXPEDIA!!!

Booked a hotel reservation at Ramada with Expedia in Butte MT. Expedia showed it was connected to the Convention Center but they were the only travel site to show that. Even Ramada in its description of the hotel didn't show connected to the Convention Center. That should have been my first clue EXPEDIA WAS WRONG! I went ahead and booked the hotel. I then called the hotel and talked to the manager to see if we had to go outside the hotel to get to the Convention Center. Surprise! It had NEVER been connected to the Convention Center as he said it is 2 miles away from the Ramada. He also said no one had ever told Expedia it was connected to the Convention Center. I guess EXPEDIA types whatever they want to about a hotel without verification. SHAME ON EXPEDIA! I looked at Google Maps, over 2 miles away. I called the Chamber of Commerce and she said it was 2 1/2 miles away. I called back to EXPEDIA cancelled my reservation and told them why. I also told them I would be sharing the experience on the podcast.

I will never use you guys again

I will never use you guys again. You sold me a American Airlines ticket and offered me insurance which I decided to get. For the purpose of me being able to change or cancel my flight if needed. I call to change my returning flight just for them to tell me that America Airlines does not accept the insurance policy that THEY RECOMMENDED I PURCHASE! SO NOW, I am not able to change my flight unless I want to purchase a new ticket. I am also not able to cancel and get a refund as they won't do that either. Nor will they refund me the price of the policy they sold me. All while knowing American Airlines doesn't accept it. Unbelievable. My family uses your company constantly and we will never be using you again. I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING EXPEDIA!

I booked a hotel in Tokyo and because of flight delays missed the first of five nights. Instead of changing my arrival, they actually charged me an extra night. I wasn’t expecting a refund, but to charge me for an extra night is incredibly disgusting. Expedia is a total scam. DO NOT USE THEM. That are an absolute rip-off!!!!! Book directly with the hotel. It will save you money.

Expedia bookings not guaranteed

I booked a hotel in Paris, nine months in advance only to receive notification two weeks before departure that the hotel was not going to honour the booking because it received a higher rate. Expedia would not do anything to help other than advise me to rebook at the 11th hour at market rates. They wouldn’t cover any cost difference, as the prices had doubled in the nine months. Would never ever book with Expedia because their bookings are not guaranteed.

Unfair booking charge

I had wrongly booked a day's holiday in a hotel. I inserted the 28th of June instead of the 28th of July. After 2 hours, I realised this, but I could not get any result from them about changing the date. The only way I was told was to make another booking and lose the money for a booking purchased 3 hours before. This is really ridiculous. When I was booking, I specifically looked to get a free change booking just in case, but in the end, they told me that it was a non-refundable booking. Please keep in mind and don't buy from this company. It's playing totally unfair...

You have to file an insurance claim to get a refund. Regardless of what date you set for your booking, they will change it to something random. My family had to sleep in our car because the reservation was set 2 months out. No customer service phone number, only online bots. Absolutely worthless company do not buy anything from them.

Expedia is garbage and scum company

we sat in line for 3 hours at West jet at airport 3.5 hours before departure and we were gonna miss flight so we had to cancel and rebook for next day paid for insurance and all that good stuff. Easy to book anything but when we need…

Easy to book anything but when we need to cancel before 24 hours, always too hard. I book Sheraton Fallsview Hotel for the view only, I got street view only be able to see cars parking and old buildings, 2 nights $ 513.29 dollars. No be able to change room because third party. I need to go to Expedia but they got 24 hours to cancel or change.

I would like to give zero if possible. You can't not even find a phone number on Expedia web page. I have paid more for me to change the airline book. However, it is difficult to change it. When I finally found a person to change the flight ticket, the price went up. Terrible experience with Expedia.

Terrible Customer Service.

Terrible Customer Service. We booked 4 nights with Expedia, upon quickly realising we had booked them one day earlier than required, we checked and as the availability was there asked if we could make a simple change. This was refused. So, if you are booking through this Company, it is imperative that you make sure you double check every detail as they are not interested in assisting you once you have booked and paid.

Unfortunately the hotel we booked wasn't the best. I had to leave a holding security deposit for the two rooms I booked which I had to fight to get back. (GulfView Hotel Clearwater) I contacted the hotel directly asking them to release my security deposit of $400. The hotel said they released it when we checked out and told us to contact our bank who told us they couldn't do anything until the hotel released the money. Anyway after back and forth with the hotel, I decided to contact Expedia who very quickly managed to resolve this issue for us and the money was back in my account 72hrs later.

If I could give zero stars I would. In December 2023, I helped my sons' and their friends book a hotel in Stuttgart, to stay in whilst visiting Germany to watch Euro 2024. In May 2024, they were contacted (via Expedia) by the hotel they had booked previously, to be told the hotel was now closed for several months for refurbishment. They were unable to contact the hotel to clarify the matter and I tried to contact Expedia (as the booking had been made via their website), to gain assistance and obtain a refund. Expedia effectively washed their hands of their responsibilities and refused to help. Fortunately I had booked the hotel with my credit card and the bank were extremely helpful and progressed the dispute. It was only at this stage, the Expedia paid any interest. At the time of writing, it appears that we now will be receiving a refund from Expedia in the coming days - thanks to my banks involvement. Rest assured, I will not be using Expedia again and I will ensure my friends and family know to avoid Expedia too and their other companies - Hotel.com, VRBO, etc like the plague!

Terrible company to deal with

Terrible company to deal with. Holiday looks cheap but lots of hidden charges afterwards such as hold luggage and city taxes which they don't make clear in big bold letters. When things go wrong they gave zero customer service and just back heel all issues to the airline or hotel who then tell you to speak to expedia so you end up in a circular argument going no where. Highly recommend you avoid....I will in future.

EXPEDIA STEALS 5000 EURO in cancelled tickets from OMAN AIR Booked a trip for 4 people from Amsterdam to Colombo, via KLM/Oman air, for 5000 EURO in tickets. Oman air has cancelled 75% of the tickets without giving any reason. Now more than 3 weeks trying to get money back. Contacted EXPEDIA customer service 8 times in NL and UK. But the only thing they do here is send an email to Oman air and then let the customer wait 72 hours - without any result. KLM refers to Expedia. Oman refers to Expedia. Expedia says they cannot get in touch with Oman air. While we have direct contact with Oman air TOTAL INCAPACIBLE AND CUSTOMER UNFRIENDLY ORGANISATION THAT EXPEDIA. WARNING: DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!!

Double car charge booking, no refund

Paid for car booking via Expedia. At the car rental there was no notification of the booking. I showed the emails from Expedia, that confirmed they have not received a payment. So I had to pay twice. Now I'm chasing Expedia to give me money back for the double booked car, have all the receipts and it's been days, the case not going anywhere. Horrible experience, do not recommend.

Hidden charges, patronising staff, left without car 48 hours prior to trip

Don't believe it when they say that "total price shown for car hire includes any additional charges" because even if it says it on your invoice and on the product you are purchasing, they will tell you that their terms and conditions say otherwise (even though they don't). I booked car hire with expedia and it clearly stated that the young driver surplus was included. I have rented cars before, so am always aware to check this. 48 hours prior to my trip, the car hire company asked me to complete check in online, and as I completed this, it requested a £68 fee which was chargeable as “young driver surcharge”. According to my booking on Expedia, it clearly states ON my invoice and in my emails regarding rules and regulations that “total price shown for the car hire includes additional charges that may apply for drivers under 25 or over 70”. I called Expedia, and unfortunately had a negative experience with your representatives, who not only passed me around on hold for over an hour until the line eventually dropped, but continued to advise me that even though it states this on my invoice, that is incorrect as your “terms and conditions” advise that young driver fees may apply. I have therefore been sold a product under completely false pretences, and have been left less than 48 hours ahead of going away with the only option to pay the additional surcharge (which was more than the car rental) or to refund the case. I asked about the complaints process and how to raise a formal complaint with the representative, only to be spoken to passive aggressively and advised “this is it, you’re speaking to a supervisor” and to be continuously patronised. Will never use again.

Absolutely avoid at any costs. They do not refund anything to anyone. They do not care if you have issues and recommend you all the wrong companies who are scammers.

Points are a SCAM. Don't bother saving them up

Will not let you use your expedia points. Doesn't matter what you do, if you've built up a healthy points balance, their system will not allow it to be used. I have £527 in points. Tried to use it for a booking, and my bank was charge the full amount for the booking. Suspecting I'd made a mistake I cancelled the booking and redid it, being extra careful to make sure points were used. The summary page said "£206 being charged today" so I bought it. Behold another £733 leaves my bank account. Speaking to the chat agents is useless becuase they just blame you. So you'll not be able to use your points. Total waste of time

Return flight ticket gone vanished…

During COVID we cant take a return flight, when we want to claim it back they told us they have a system update and wiped all data, suggest we talk to BA, BA got back to us, since the ££ is with them not BA, the best BA can do is provide us all flight info they went missing DUE TO THEIR SYSTEM UPDATE. And now they have told us they can do nothing about it since its their company policy to have a deadline of claims which we were never told, from the beginning nor the process of trying to settle this matter. 5 tickets of HKG to Heathrow is a lot of money and they just make it gone easily.

Put us in a dirty hotel, asked for a refund and told OK that's fine but you will have to first pay for another hotel! So I paid for another hotel and they refused the refund for the first! Fortunately, money claim online only costs £30 to take these fraudsters to court.

Booked 2 nights hotel on 14th May because free cancellation was offered as long as I cancelled before 5th June at 4pm. Circumstances changed and I needed to change the booking to 1 night , cancelling the 2nd night. Phone Expedia on 3rd June to cancel, customer service advisor said she'd cancel it, but as I'd heard nothing I phoned again on 4th June. Was told it was cancelled and I'd receive confirmation within 72 hrs, which I thought was a buit iffy, why 72hrs. Got email from hotel on 6th June asking me to confirm booking. Tried phoning hotel directly, but number out of commission. Further 2 mobile nos not answering so left voicemail on both. Also emailed hotel directly and then phoned Expedia AGAIN. Once again told that they'd contact hotel to cancel I told them that the land line was out of commission. Told not to worry they'd email them and they could see that I'd contacted them on 3RD. The Hotel Wild Pheasant Hotel and Spa Wales has agreed to a full refund and Expedia some how can't contact the hotel and it's not their policy to share emails between the hotel, Expedia and me :) HA HA! I've been speaking to Expedia since the 29th May 2024 (2 minutes after the booking was placed and they took the money out of my bank for the booking) There is still 5 days before the booking and I have had 3 emails from Expedia saying ther's nothing they can do? What poor customer service. I can only comment on my experience but I see little reason to use them ever again. Let's see if anyone cares? I've just booked two additional overnight stays since this BUT NOT with Expedia.

I booked flights through Expedia. Airline was Vietjet. We had a nightmare with flights changes and then eventual cancellation on a trip to Vietnam. Expedia were useless. Zero help when stranded and now some 2 months later have basically said they cant advance a refund for the cancelled flights for our group - which begs the question what is the actual point of using this service. They are effectively a scam. I booked with them, I paid them, the service was incomplete and now suddenly I'm required to deal with a random airline about a booking i never made directly with them. It works fine for me. It will get you on a plane and gives you twenty four hours to cancel. The amenities of hotels are sometimes wrong though.

“Cancellation policy misrepresented”

Booked a hotel through Expedia. Confirmation email explicitly stated I could cancel without penalty if done by 11:59 pm the day before arrival. I ended up cancelling within the prescribed time frame and received confirmation from Expedia for the cancellation showing no penalty or charge. Hotel charged me $830 anyway, and is refusing to refund. Expedia appears to have misrepresented the hotel's cancellation policy. I should have booked directly with the hotel.

Reservation through Expedia wasn't found by Thrifty when our flight was delayed, so we had to take an Uber to our location, cost $40, and an extra hour waiting. Reserved another car through Expedia that cost $60 more to rent for one less day and received an email from AVIS stating they were charging us $50 for not picking up the rental. Terrible communication by Expedia to their partners. It takes a lot of digging to find how to register a complaint with Expedia and the agent gave a hollow apology, without any offer to assist, only excuses. They also continually stated they "understand", which must be part of their training. When a customer has a complaint always say you understand regardless of whether you have the slightest inclination to what they are stating.

Tip for consumers: They make it so hard to find a way to talk to someone and do little to nothing to resolve issues, so customer service is not something they value.

Very sketchy business practices. Customer Service is non-existent. Be very careful when you cancel a reservation. I got scammed out of $200 when I cancelled my reservation as they never provided a confirmation email when I did it. Worst travel booking website I came across. You will also find better deals elsewhere. Better to book directly with the hotel.

Tip for consumers: book directly with the hotel or a different site. This site is a scam/sketchy as hell.

I booked a flight/hotel/car and added insurance through Expedia. My flight was canceled and I could not get another until the following day. I tried to change my return flight for an extra day and was told the airline does not refund economy flights or allow for changes (why pay for insurance). I had to call the hotel and car rental to get refunded for 1 day each. I am very disappointed with Expedia and will no longer do business with them. I will do all my booking directly.

I am about to write the worst review ever of expedia if i don't get help right away from someone who speaks good english and has authority to help me out. i've just spent hours on the phone to india for what should have been a quick hotel booking. i called to complain of bait and switch on prices, and was finally offered a $50 coupon for my next booking for all the time i waited. i booked a room at full price to get this coupon. when i tried to use the coupon on a second booking it could not be applied to my booking! "please check the terms and conditions" -- which were nowhere to be found! i'm ready to cancel my first booking and slam expedia with a terrible review! i've never had this problem before, and have been using expedia for years! if you are losing this loyal customer, you are about to lose many more!!

You were lucky to get through to anyone at all at Expedia. I've spent hours and hours and hours over three days trying to get through to anyone on their customer service phone line, their chat line and their e-mail, all to no avail. They really owe their customers much better customer service.

How do i speak to someone that has some power about a customer service problem?

Demand to speak to a Supervisor though you better have time because it will take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours. Once the Supervisor does nothing or little to nothing to resolve your concern, ask to speak to a manager. Get ready to really wait. DO NOT ACCEPT THE "WE'LL HAVE A MANAGER CALL YOU WITHIN 24 to 48 HOURS" When you figure out you don't matter, sit down and right a review!

Help! Can anyone advice me if there is a legal policy to cancel a booking? I booked a home trough Expedia HK which direct me to Home Away. I realised after I entered my credit card that the currency was not in HKD but in USD so I wanted to cancel my booking (within 5mn after I paid). Expedia replied that they cannot cancel but only Home away. Home Away replied that they cannot cancel but only the direct owner. The direct owner replied that they don't want to cancel/refund.

The worst nightmare to book air tickets through Expedia.Bought around trip tickets through them to Istanbul on Turkish Airways. On the way down every thing was smooth with 20kilo. Baggage on the way back they cancelled my reservation on Turkish airline and booked me on Pegasus Airlines with no baggage to check in. I ended up paying 200 euros to check in my baggage.i called Expedia and they Said sorry we can’t help. This is a joke I talked to Turkish airline and they said Expedia do it always because Pegasus is cheaper to fly with-so Expedia makes more mone.never again and please don’t book through Expedia.

Hotel booking cancelled due to covid. Coupon given for the full amount but when used to rebook I suddenly lost over $200. On complaining i got a coupon for the same accommodation which expires in Dec. No chance of using it as already booked. Absolute rubbish.

A s**tty experience. I purchased tickets with them, and in the end, they turned out to be something different than what I bought—different airlines. I couldn't check in or choose seats, and the baggage was not included as mentioned when selling the tickets. The customer service does not handle anything.

Expedia travel became a nightmare

This has got to be the worst experience I ever had with a vacation purchase. I made reservations through expedia for hotel and flight, it was fully refundable. But following my payment, I only received emails about the trip from Travellink and now it was nonrefundable. Hotel was fine cancelling, but travelling referred to another sub, named eDREAMS. This was not a dream, it was a nightmare. I lost 1500 dollars and got really angry because Expedia takes no responsibility - just refers me to their subs like eDREAMS, with call centers in India. I am shocked. NEVER again will I use Expedia.

Do not trust Expedia

I booked a trip to Mexico found out the flight was not included so I cancelled my trip. I was totally refunded. 2 days later I found same hotel and flight for cheaper. As it turns out somehow it shows I booked a flight on aircanada was charged to my account. Not only did I not book it the departure was in the us. I live in Canada 🇨🇦. I contacted Expedia they said I was only booked for a hotel and refunded. I opened a dispute and customer service did nothing. I’m hoping this will be resolved with my visa account. Will never again use Expedia again. Air Canada suggested that Expedia used my information to book the flight even though I cancelled booking.

After booking a 2 night stay in a hotel…

After booking a 2 night stay in a hotel with expidia, all was going well until we turned up to find the Hotel derelict, it had been closed for 6 months, we was going to tring chillfest we had and paid for tickets pre booked and paid for taxis, total amount £500.00 tried all Friday night to find somewhere else but with no luck. Contacted expidia and they offered me a £50 voucher off my next booking. This company is a complete rip off I would stay away, 2 weeks later still nothing back apart for a message we are trying to resolve this for you.

worst company ever, Do not ever use this company They changed my flight after I have made my choice and before I paid and then they disregarded my complaint which was send within minutes after receiving my confirmation. Booked a hotel well in advance. Paid upfront as non-refundable. Arrived at the hotel after an extremely long stressful journey to find it closed. Later on return home contacted Expedia for refund and compensation. So far after a good few days have received an email saying `'the money is being held by the hotel as it was non-refundable." Obviously not my responsibility that the stay was cancelled via the hotel being closed and not my issue with the hotel it's Expedia as they took the booking and my money. Such a shame as until now I've had no issues with Expedia everything has gone super smoothly in the past. Will never use again absolutely disgraceful.

Expedia. Money before morals

Pre-covid I booked a hotel in Venice for April 2020. Obviously had to cancel and spoke to the hotel. They were great and advised they had cleared the refund with Expedia.Expedia now advise me that I have a voucher for a future stay which must be used within 12 months. I won't be going to Italy within 12 months as I have Leukaemia and a low immune system but still no refund. Money before morals. Don't trust these people. Just try sending them an email!!!!

WORST SCAMMERS OUT THERE!!!

I reserved a car through them on a prepaid reservation. When I got to the car rental counter at the airport last night, the agent at Dollar informed me that they didn't have any cars available and there were dozens of people already waiting for their cars too. I called Carrentals.com customer service and was told they would contact the airport to verify that there were no cars then issue a full refund and would send me an email confirmation as soon as he completed the refund. I was also promised a callback from a supervisor as he told me they don't take calls from customers. I've not gotten my refund, I've not gotten any emails from anyone at carrentals.com and of course, I've not gotten a callback from a supervisor.

Great way to waste money

If I could, I would give them a negative number! I used their app to book a hotel room in Denver. I was preparing to go, so I looked it up to make sure all of the details were correct. In a moment of insanity I decided to add a meal. After I clicked to update my reservation, it told me I had successfully created a new reservation for tonight. I immediately tried to contact them to cancel the reservation. The online customer care stated that the booking was not refundable. I have called everyone I know to call and I’m now clear that I have lost $160. To Hilton’s credit, they tried to fix this, but we’re not able. I will never ever use Expedia again. I suggest that unless you have money to burn you stay away from them also.

Do not book a hotel through these people. Utter Fraudsters. Will sell you a room that has no resemblance to the room or Hotel on arrival. Rooms so shockingly bad was almost funny. Couldn't stay there. They must be in cahoots with these shocking hotels. We never did get our money refunded.

Booked a holiday two years ago through expidia and a flight was cancelled by the airline, then covid hit and for the last 18 months i've been trying to get my money back, they blame the airline they give false information such as i was issued a flight credit but it is out of date ! , I never wanted a flight credit and when i spoke to the airline they said i had another year to use it if i wanted to if not then expidia needed to sort out the refund,and I wish i had never trusted expidia, they even remove complains from social media. If i could just infuence one person to use the actual airlines and not expidia then this review is worth it. Don't use them because if it goes wrong they flip ypu off

Expidia rip off

I booked flights to and from Lanzarote at an advertised cost of £307, when going through the webpages to pay for the trip we were given an option to pay for hold luggage at £60. Later we noticed that this only allowed for the bags going one way, so we went back a few steps and removed the baggage option. The cost went back to £307 on that page, we moved through that next few pages to pay for the flights and when the invoice came into our mailbox the price we were charge was £367, the baggage had been put back on. I contacted their customer services straight away to ask why and was asked to email my invoice to their customer services. The next day i received an email saying it was not their problem, so tough luck basically!! This is shocking customer service, even if we took baggage with us we would need to pay a further £60 to bring it back. What a rip off. I would not recommend anyone to use Expedia if that’s the way they treat their customers.

I had the same experience with a hotel…

I ahd the same experience with a hotel booking in New York, the weekend the city shut down. It was impossible to get through on the phone to Expedia, so i canclled the hotel direct. They sent me a confirmation and stated that NO CHARGES were applicable and i should claim my refund from Expedia. I probably spent 30 - 40 hours on hold, calling at all hours of the day and night 9but at night India takes the calls....). Over and over until I finally reached a live person after 3 weeks.She called the hotel and confirmed - no charges and then it was supposed to hear back within 24 hours. never happened. After my midnight call to india - same story, confirm with hotel 9while I am on hold) and same promise - except now reply to e in 72 hours. never came either, so finally i claimed a refund by way of VISA card and after same hassles they gave me the credit - which of course Expedia could challenge. if they do, I will go to Small claims court, which I can do bc I live not too far from heir headquarter. Never, never, do business with them. Try booking flights and hitels direct, that will be my mantra from now on.

Expedia for TD is a rewards platform made exclusively for TD credit card holders whose cards earn TD rewards. The Expedia for TD platform allows those with access to redeem their points to book vacations, flights, hotels, cruises and more with special perks and benefits. It also allows users to earn points at a higher accelerated rate when booking travel on this platform.

How Does Expedia for TD Work?

Expedia for TD works similarly to the original Expedia travel platform that many Canadians already know and use. Like the main platform, Expedia for TD is a one-stop shop for all of their vacation and travel needs. Using this platform, eligible cardholders can book flights, hotels, cruises, car rentals and vacation packages. However, Expedia for TD goes beyond the original Expedia platform by allowing cardholders to earn TD Reward points at an accelerated rate.

 Partnership Benefits

The TD Expedia partnership dates back to 2011, when both brands partnered to create the TD for Expedia portal. The TD for Expedia portal allows users to book all of their vacation needs in one place with a few added member-only perks. These include the ability to earn points faster—users earn up to nine TD Rewards points for every dollar spent in travel purchases by phone or online through Expedia for TD. Additionally, some cardholders (those who have the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite) will get an annual TD travel credit of $100 when they book travel through Expedia for TD. Navigating the Expedia for TD Platform

Since the Expedia for TD Platform is only for TD Rewards members, you will need to log in. To do so, you can use your existing TD online banking credentials.

If you are looking to rent a car, click the cars tab. Enter the pick-up and drop-off point and the dates you want to rent. From there, you can filter based on the type of car and the car rental company as you compare. 24th Annual Vacation Deprivation Report finds Americans are more vacation deprived than ever; unveils tips from around the world to help U.S. travelers get more out of their time off and save on their next trip

SEATTLE , June 20, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- According to Expedia's 24 th  annual  Vacation Deprivation Report , 1  released today, roughly half of Americans don't plan on using all their time off this year (53%), despite receiving just 12 days off annually — the fewest of any country surveyed. Expedia's report has been analyzing time-off trends around the world for 24 years, and while American vacation deprivation (defined as the feeling of not having enough time off) has now hit an 11-year high at 65%, rates are down in many other parts of the world. It's clear working adults in the U.S. could benefit from adopting some of the time-off strategies and attitudes in other countries.

Japan:  American and Japanese workers take a similar number of days off each year (11 and 12 respectively), but surprisingly Japan boasts the lowest vacation deprivation levels in the world (53%). Based on the survey, this could be attributed to Japanese workers taking more frequent, short vacations and prioritizing relaxation during their getaways.

France:  No one vacations quite like the French, taking the most days off in the world (29) and 2.5x more than Americans. There's an emphasis culturally on the fundamental right to rest as more French workers view vacations as a basic right (93% vs 83% of U.S.).

Hong Kong :  Hong Kong was the only market surveyed where respondents didn't leave vacation days unused but took  more  time off on average than they were allocated, and 15% vow to do it again in 2024 (highest globally).

"We may not be able to control how many days off we get, but the research begs the question: What can we learn from other countries that will help Americans break this horrible habit of not using the time off we  do  have, said Melanie Fish , head of Expedia Group brands public relations. Summer vacation mode may be in full swing, but it turns out Americans aren’t the ones packing their bags, according to a new study by travel platform Expedia. 

Expedia’s 24th annual Vacation Deprivation Report, which surveyed 11,580 people across 11 countries in March and April, found Americans to take the least vacations globally. Sixty-five percent of U.S. respondents said they feel as if they don’t take enough time off – the highest rate in 11 years.

Americans not only receive the fewest vacation days each year, averaging just 11 days, but only half of them even plan to use all their allotted time off.

How much time off do Americans take?

The study found that Americans take 11 days off a year on average.

The reasons are all too relatable: Americans said they’re just too busy, and planning a vacation can be “overwhelming.”

Compared with the rest of the world, Americans are almost twice as likely to go a year or more without taking a vacation. Japan, France and Hong Kong were all found to have healthy holiday habits in the study. (Hong Kong respondents actually took more time off than their earned paid time off.)

"Vacations are not a guilty pleasure, yet that's the way Americans have been treating time off for years now," said Mel Fish, vice president of Global Public Relations, Expedia Group Brands, in a statement to USA TODAY. 

“Guilt, hustle culture, and the stress of planning a trip are why 65% of Americans say they're 'vacation deprived,' the highest rate in over a decade of Expedia tracking it. With more than half of Americans not using all their PTO annually, despite getting the fewest amount of vacation days globally, we're clearly overdue for an overhaul when it comes to our relationship with vacation time.”

Even worse, about 19% of Americans said they save up their vacation days for a big trip and end up not even going. 

While Americans grind away at work and manage their busy schedules, the French are doing the opposite. In the survey, France won the spot as the country that gets the most days off, about a month. (You may have heard of the famous French August shutdown , when many businesses close and people get away from the cities.)

In Japan – one of the surveyed countries where its residents take the second-least amount of days off at 12 days – vacations are spread out throughout the year, about every month or so. That contributes to the Japanese having one of the lowest levels of vacation deprivation, according to the study. 

Americans may want to follow suit and take that step to finally book the trip on their bucket list. Going on vacation comes with a slew of benefits for someone’s well-being , like reducing depression. Taking a trip even helps us show up in our daily lives and jobs better. Unfortunately, Americans ranked the lowest out of the 11 countries for prioritizing rest and relaxation during their trips. (Seriously, turn off the email notifications.)

“You know how sometimes your computer needs a reboot? Our brains are much the same,” said Becky Spelman, a psychologist who partnered with Expedia, in a statement to USA TODAY. “Over time, work stress can build up to an unsustainable level and our brain functions start to slow down and work less effectively.” 

Tips to book that trip

◾ Go for the long weekend. Because a big annual trip can be costly and come with a lot of pressure, opt for booking shorter getaways, like a long weekend . Although holiday weekends can cause prices to surge, taking a Friday or Monday off for a long weekend during shoulder season means fewer crowds and lower prices. 

◾ Use technology. Artificial intelligence travel planners and price trackers are at our fingertips, and those can make the research and planning of booking a trip a little less overwhelming. Using a flight tracker to monitor flight costs can help you score the best deal. “When we take a break, it’s easier for our brains to absorb new information, process new sensations and create new memories – a process known as ‘cognitive flexibility,’” Spelman said. “The benefits can last long after the vacation is over. How to File a Claim with Berkshire Hathaway Travel Insurance

Berkshire Hathaway customers can file a claim through the claims portal, by emailing claims [email protected], or calling (844) 411-2487 and choosing option 5 (+1 (715) 303-6333 for people abroad). Customer service representatives are available between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday, and the company is closed for national holidays. Callers can also reach an emergency operator 24/7 for travel or medical assistance by selecting options 1 or 2.

You can also file a claim using the dedicated app, available for both iOS and Android devices. That said, customer reviews have mentioned that the app doesn't work, so a more traditional route may be more reliable.

Customers have a year from when the loss occurred to file a claim, though Berkshire Hathaway encourages claimants to file as soon as reasonably possible. For certain types of claims, such as lost baggage, you only need to submit a photograph of the claim you filed with the airline in addition to some basic information about the situation.
