Delhi government to rope in influencers, upgrade tourism website, revamp Coffee Home to boost tourism
To boost tourism in delhi, the government is collaborating with influencers, upgrading tourism website, teaming up with cab aggregators, and more..
The Delhi government has taken a host of initiatives to boost tourism in the city such as roping in social media influencers, upgrading the tourism department website, and teaming up with the archaeology department and cab aggregators among others. The tourism department has also placed its magazines mentioning tourist places across the city in hotels and the department is in the process of getting brochures printed, a senior official told PTI.
![Delhi government plans initiatives to boost tourism. (Pexels) Delhi government plans initiatives to boost tourism. (Pexels)](https://www.hindustantimes.com/ht-img/img/2023/05/09/550x309/Delhi_Humanyus_tomb_1683616434076_1683616438612.jpg)
The official added the government has decided to team up with a cab aggregator popular among foreigners and place the brochures in those cabs. It has also decided to revamp the Coffee Home in Connaught Place to make it more appealing and people-friendly, she said.
"We are planning to revamp Coffee Home located on Baba Kharak Singh Marg. It is famous among tourists. We are trying to develop it and give it a better look by installing a digital screen where people can see the menu," the official said.

The Coffee Home is operated by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC).
The government has been offering guided tours of historical sites under the Heritage Walks banner. To promote these, the tourism department has organised walks for influencers, who in turn posted videos about these tours on social media, giving visibility to the initiatives. "Inviting social media influencers was a part of giving a boost to tourism in the city," the official said.
Over the last few years, the tourism department has made its website 'Dekho Meri Dilli' more user-friendly. "Through the website, people can check out the places they can visit, the nearest metro stations and the routes they should take. Moreover, we offer tickets to several of these places," she said.
The department is also tying up with the departments of archaeological and art and culture to organise activities.
"We are thinking of tying up with the archaeological as well as the art and culture department because most of the historical places are under them. We can make a plan on how they intend the places to be explored," she said.
"We can organise programmes together like the Haunted Walk that we have started. We have also started the promotion activities of these places. We recently organised the walk for social media influencers and asked them to promote these sites," the official said.

Coffee Home – Budget Friendly Café under the Giant Shaded Banyan Tree
![delhi tourism coffee home Coffee Home – Budget Friendly Café under the Giant Shaded Banyan Tree](https://www.40kmph.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Menu-of-Coffee-Home-Baba-Kharak-Singh-Marg-Connaught-Place-New-Delhi.jpg)
He suggested sitting under the giant shaded Banyan tree at the backside of the Coffee Home.
After visiting Pracheen Hanuman Mandir and having tea at Netaji Chai Wale and then Urad Dal Kachori at Shri Hanuman Kachori (all within the temple area), I decided to visit Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib via bus No. 73 (bus fare – Rs. 5) from outside of Connaught Place Police Station (under the tree) next to Pracheen Hanuman Mandir.
After visiting Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib and having langar (community kitchen which serves free meals), I decided to visit Coffee Home.
Again bus No. 73 from Rakab Ganj Gurdwara bus stop for Pracheen Hanuman Mandir.
Bus fare – Rs. 5/- only.
Within minutes I reached.
The moment I was about to enter the Coffee Home, I read – Official work and laptops are not allowed here.
Timings: 11 am – 7 pm
Coffee Home has a large space. The hall is fully-packed and has an open area under the giant shaded Banyan tree.
I decide to have a seat under the giant shaded Banyan tree. Always better than concrete walls.
I read the menu which is vegetarian.
Beverages, South Indian, and Fast Food.
And the rate is budget-friendly.
As my stomach was full, I requested Filter Coffee – Rs. 50/- only.
Self-serving cafe. Nothing fancy.
I with my Filter Coffee towards the giant shaded Banyan tree because the hall was a little noisy.
How was the Filter Coffee?
OK OK, but what I like the most was the ambiance around the giant shaded Banyan tree.
I suggest: If you want a great natural experience at the heart of the famous Connaught Place/New Delhi, visit this hidden budget cafe to sit, chat and have food/snacks under the giant shaded Banyan tree.
Highly recommended at least once if you are touring Connaught Place/New Delhi.
If I am correct, the nearest metro station for Coffee Home is Rajiv Chowk.

To boost tourism, increase revenue, Delhi Tourism to set up two more coffee homes – in IP Extension & Janakpuri
According to a tourism department official, the department has been allotted two vacant plots for the coffee homes at ip extension, patparganj, and janakpuri's narang colony..
![delhi tourism coffee home delhi tourism coffee home](https://indianexpress.com/wp-content/themes/indianexpress/images/google-news-icon.png)
In order to attract tourism and increase its revenue, the Delhi Tourism department is planning to develop two new coffee homes — in East Delhi’s IP Extension and West Delhi’s Janakpuri. Besides, plans are afoot to upgrade other properties that come under Delhi Tourism such as Dilli Haat, Azad Hind Gram, and GTB memorial at Singhu Border, officials said.
According to a tourism department official, the department has been allotted two vacant plots for the coffee homes at IP Extension, Patparganj, and Janakpuri’s Narang Colony.
![delhi tourism coffee home](https://data.indianexpress.com/election2019/track_1x1.jpg)
“Currently, one of the oldest and most famous coffee houses run by the tourism department is located at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place. The place is known for its cheap and delicious coffee and south Indian delicacies…So, a few months ago, a plan was proposed to set up two more coffee homes in East Delhi and Janakpuri,” said an official.
At IP Extension, the coffee house will be set up on a land measuring 1,000 square metre while the size of land at Janakpuri is 1,550 sqm, said officials.
The land has been allotted by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to the DTTDC on lease basis for the coffee homes, said officials.
![delhi tourism coffee home Festive offer](https://images.indianexpress.com/2024/06/UPSC_65_970x150_Without_Offer.png)
Officials said that the coffee homes will give the patrons an affordable option to spend their time. Apart from freshly brewed filter coffee, snacks such as dosa, upma, idli, burger, cutlet and noodles etc are part of the plan.
Besides, there is a plan to have an outdoor seating arrangement where visitors can sit and enjoy their coffee and meal, said an official.
DTTDC also plans on upgrading Dilli Haat in Janakpuri and Pitampura, Guru Teg Bahadur Memorial at Singhu Border, and Azad Hind Gram at Tikri Kalan, NH-10.
“Tender was invited to hold public consultations with companies, agencies and organisations that have good experience of developing, operating tourist facilities/related services for the purpose of inviting meaningful suggestions to develop the above properties with the twofold objective of providing good tourism services to the public and revenue generation for DTTDC…However, initially, no bidders turned for the project,” said an official.
An official said the department is working on the plan and soon a re-tendering process will be initiated for developing the properties.
The department will shortlist the agencies after screening the details provided by the bidders, following which the selection will take place, the official added.
