Top 5 airlines serving from the United Kingdom to Germany

We checked in 4 luggage and only got 3 back & lost our 4th luggage. Our flight was from berlin sept 22. We arrived Copenhagen but only received 3 luggage. Missing 1 still 24 hrs after our arrival and our Cruise will be leaving tomorrow 9/24/2023. This is the second time that our luggage gets lost/delayed in Copenhagen

No food on plane.. flights scheduled 55 min..everything is very expensive on aeroport

Filthy plane, obviously not cleaned properly between flights, food crumbles in seat and carpet

Smallest seat I have ever seen. And they had a label with more Legroom but in fact where really tiny.

No cancellations but one flight delayed due to arrival airport industrial action. Comfortable

I was held-up at boarding by rude employee who insisted that I had to wait until all other passengers had boarded the lane before issuing me a boarding pass so I can board the plane. I could not check-in earlier and get a boarding pass since I had flown directly from Dusseldorf.

I had a family emergency and couldn’t board and I contacted underpricer to help me get a refund or just a flight adjustment as i would still be flying later that week, and that hasn’t happened. I will never book a flight through kayak/ underpricer ever again.

2 hours late. Charged me for luggage despite my being star alliance gold. Inflight entertainment didn’t work after I paid for it. Boarding took forever. Shoddy work you guys.

The flight was canceled and the airline didn't even bother to notify passengers. It was Kayak that did a great job.

Full flight with ok comfort levels. Zero in flight entertainment. Dinner served was fair… taste mostly ok (bread a bit stale) and way too little for such a long flight. Technical stop in Cyprus just to switch crew which seems unnecessary. (Other airlines from Europe who do not want overnight layover in Beirut do not switch crews.). Thought that some passengers would disembark in Larnaca (CY) but no, stop was solely for crew change.

In general the flight was good, for me the only issue was I couldn't connect to the Wi-Fi

The Lufthansa ground staff at bengaluru airport was completely unhelpful. There was a single line to check in for all passengers, those that checked in via the self service kiosk and everyone else. The bag drop counters were not staffed and the as a result we wound up standing in line after getting our bag tag and boarding passes just to drop off the luggage. Also there was one counter for economy class resulting in long wait time. There are lots of personnel milling around but not able to do anything.

This was a short flight and not much to share. The flight crew was very kind.

Boarding was smooth and efficient (no waiting on bridge and in plane). Flight crew was very much focussed on passenger comfort.

Okay, the flight was over an hour late leaving LAX! I barely made my connecting flight! Very stressful experience! Lufthansa 747 biz class needs a serious upgrade to its seating! The food was good, but the staff was mostly very cold but did a good job!

The seats are designed for 12 years old, but pretty uncomfortable for the average adulte!!

Be sure to check bags for 23 kg,.(50 lbs) Coming from US I chose the wrong size luggage weight when I checked in on my phone, and had to pay more when I dropped it off

The on board air steward really made the journey. He was very entertaining

I was disappointed there was a 40 minute delay to flight

The trip itself was good. I have given only good as rating, because my first flight has been cancelled by a different airline and that caused disruption in my trip. I spent over ten hours in Luton airport and that caused me high tiredness, sickness, because of the very early initial trip. easyJet staff has been professional and friendly.

Very pleasant crew, working hard on a full plane. Delay by a broken seat. However crew made back 60% of the delay.

Delayed and then further delayed with no announcement made so that all the passengers (who were standing in the jetty) could hear. We stood there for well over 20 minutes. We were further delayed through weather but no one explained that to us until the pilot made an announcement when finally on board

easyJet need to ensure that whether pre-booking seats or not children aren’t split from their parents the crew spent the majority of boarding asking passengers to move to accommodate two families. Surely the system identifies minors on a booking !!!!! It was all very frustrating to watch and caused delays which I’m sure cost easyJet more in the long run rather that automatically allocating families with minors seats together automatically.

Not great! Rude staff in London and the worse baggage reclaim I’ve ever seen. Great staff in flight but doubt I’ll fly with them again

Staff had been really impolite at the boarding area and for both ways charged high extra fees without a reason. For the check-in luggage which was measured 3.5 kg and was confirmed by the stuff to cost 40 € , 60 Euros had been purchased from our credit card. When confronted staff did call us both liars and claimed to never have announced anything. Flight back , when not wanting to press a backpack in a measuring metal instead of hand measuring , staff got angry that one did not follow her order, which was than escalated by the team. Although carrying a baby anyways staff did not offer any help in the unreasonable process and than charged again extra money. Cabine crew has been friendly but this experience LL lead to not booking easy jet at all in the future. Check in process in Edinburgh anyways chaotic,to the family check-in and disabled check-in everybody else was guided for check in process, so people just getting in between each other, not possible to monitor your own stuff.

As you would expect from a budget airline Left and arrived on time, no frills, not even a glass of water offered But you get what you pay for

Ryanair is always shite. Slowest boarding possible in the most uncomfortable way. It’s like they are are tad sadistic.

Flight was delayed which happens but walking 15 mins to one gate to be then told it’s now changed to one 15 mins back then other way was frustrating

East check in and security. They are always delayed though. ALWAYS!

Amazed at huge number of people who hadn’t booked cabin bags with big troller cases and rucksacks, not being stopped, what’s the point in following rules or paying more if you don't have to bother?

Worse situation ever. Arriving at 4 am with 7 Hours of delay

Booked extra legroom seats but as plane had changed we ended up with normal seats. Very little attempt from staff to sort it out

It was delayed and there was no apology or any updates as to why. It was genuinely awful

It got us their! Delays Delays delayed, flight got in well after specified time, rental car firms shut at 11pm!!!! So from £300 for car to £689.. thank you Ryanair....

Seats very uncomfortable for a 4 hour flight, what entertainment? Food overpriced. But sure it’s Ryan Air, what else would I expect?

The distance between seats was narrow. So my recommendation is to increase it

Entertainment was limited, especially for toddler age children but the rest was great.

Everything was fine, on the first leg of my journey from Manchester to London. But, as happened on my outbound journey from the US, there were immense problems. The plane was delayed more than 2 1/2 hours which led to me missing my connecting flight in the US. No hotels were available and I was forced after a 25 hour journey to take a bus to my house. Just unacceptable.

Shocking. Bumped off the flight as they had overbooked and given my seat to someone else. Rebooked for 24 hours later with no effort to get me there the same day. Staff don't care if you are going to miss events...they give you a hotel voucher and that's it.

Great experience overall, no issues with boarding, flight crew or services on board.

My husband’s and my seats were changed without our knowledge or approval so that we were on opposite sides of the plane, several rows apart, instead of window seats in consecutive rows (12A and 13A.). My “new” seat, 15A was right next to the bathroom and several children. My husband’s “new” seat (10G) had a defective screen, so he was unable to watch any movies during the flight. Paying for business class seats should mean I receive business class accommodations, or at the very least, my original seat selection. On the plus side, the crew was attentive and friendly, even when some young mother with screaming children (who were seated by me in my reassigned seat) went ballistic at another passenger. All in all, a way below average flight for which I paid premium prices. A very disappointing end to a wonderful trip to Europe.

Captain handled the precaution of return to stand very well.

I always regard BA as a distress purchase. It is rock bottom in terms of service.

Delayed so we landed 80 minutes late. Also the steward agreed we had unusually powerful AC above our seats which he couldn’t control so we were very cold throughout the journey . Food used to be better before. David our steward was excellent

The plane was delayed. That was only downside to flight. Crew was very nice

We have a lot to say when BA cancelled our flight the last minute and put us on Air France’s already overbooked flight; and took no responsibility to ensure we are safe and met our travels. It’s day 2 and we have not reached our final destination yet. BA took no responsibility, but were happy to keep the money! If it were not for third party ground staff at Dallas BA we would have not gotten to India. BA has a lot to answer!

Where are the most popular flight destinations in Germany?

Berlin is the most popular flight destination in germany. other popular destinations include frankfurt am main, munich, düsseldorf and hamburg..

Spanning a railway and motorway, Leipzig/Halle Airport is located close to the cities of Leipzig and Halle. In an attempt to win the hosting bid for the 2012 Olympic Games, the airport was completely revamped and modernised (at German taxpayers’ expense). However, the city of Leipzig lost the bid to London and the airport now seems somewhat deserted, with passengers often having to walk long distances through desolate halls, or sit in excessively large lounges with little or no company.

Although some travellers may find this a little dreary, many enjoy the quiet, state-of-the-art amenities and friendly and helpful staff. It all adds up to a world-class experience without the chaos and crowding often associated with equally modern, but busier, airports.

Just over two million passengers use Leipzig/Halle Airport each year. English is not widely spoken by airport staff, so brush up on your German in case you need to ask for their assistance.

When is the best time to fly to Germany?

Peak season: You’ll struggle to find the cheap flights to Germany from May to late October as there are a lot of events and festivals. The weather is at its best and flight tickets are a lot more expensive. The peak months do vary slightly depending on exactly where in Germany you want to fly to but as a rule of thumb make sure to secure your flight tickets two or three months earlier to get the cheapest prices. Reservations to Frankfurt’s auto show in September and the October book fair are normally booked years in advance so if you were hoping to make a quick visit next year you might need to plan much further ahead. Christmas and New Year are busy so book your flights to Germany in advance and don’t hope for a later festive deal. Off Season: The off season is generally from November to April as the temperature drops and the rain becomes more common. You’ll find the cheapest flights to Germany around then but it’s still wise to book in advance. Once you’ve narrowed down on your final destination have a check to see if there are any folk festivals on during or around the time you want to visit as this will increase the price of your flight tickets.

How to get from the airport to the city centre?

Munich Airport: The S-Bahn rail service is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to get into the city especially if you are carrying luggage. It runs directly from the airport every 20 minutes so you don’t need to worry about rushing too much. You can also take a Lufthansa bus from the arrivals Terminal of the airport. Taxis are available but they are a lot more expensive than the other options on offer, that said if you can split the fare with some friends then it could be a viable choice. Berlin Airport: S-Bahn trains also run from Berlin, along with regional trains and bus services. The S-Bahn trains operate between every 10 minutes and half an hour. The bus service has numerous routes and runs very frequently from the airport. Due to the high number of routes and choices on offer it might be wise to ask someone at the airport which bus would be the best option for you. You can also get the Airport Express or a taxi. The taxi will cost significantly more than the bus or train but can be a quick and efficient method if you don’t want to try and navigate the public transport options. Frankfurt Airport: The city is easily accessible from the airport and is only 12km away. Again the S-Bahn trains are the easiest and most convenient ways to travel and it runs around every 15 minutes. The AirLiner Bus makes multiple journeys to the city too. It runs every 30 minutes and the journey shouldn’t last longer than half an hour either. You can opt to get a taxi for a fee of around 25 euros which is a lot more than the S-Bahn train. That said if you have some friends travelling with you and can split the cost then it can work out the best option out of the three.

Glastonbury 2024 day 1 highlights from opening the gates to ‘criminal’ pint prices

Hands of man and women toasting beer at music festival against sky at sunset

It’s finally time – Glastonbury 2024 has started and music fans are already on site ready for a weekend of epic headliners and possibly some rain .

Gates opened yesterday at 8am and people are already grumbling about the price of a pint, with beer, cider, and wine all priced at around £7 in line with London.

Keep up with today’s action with our Glastonbury day 2 live blog here for all your festival updates

Many have actually praised it as ‘cheap’ considering it’s a huge festival during the cost of living crisis but anger started as people realised a pint of Coke will set you back £6.

Festivals are not cheap though and with 210,000 people set to arrive today at Worthy Farm, we reckon those pints will go down in no time.

While the iconic Pyramid Stage won’t welcome Dua Lipa , Coldplay , and Sza until Friday, there’s so much more to the historic festival than the big names .

Read below to check out the highlights from the festival’s first day as we prepare for five days of music , celeb spotting, and the weird and wonderful world of Glastonbury 2024.

Glastonbury highlights of Day 1 as we say goodnight

As the day draws to an end on the first night of the festival there have been several key stories.

The day kicked off with Shadow Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner pulling out of a panel of the festival and festivalgoers blocking up the motorways and railways as they travelled to Worthy Farm.

The cost of beverages at the festival shocked fans as many worked out it was most cost-effective to drink beer all weekend and avoid non-alcoholic drinks.

Shania Twain also revealed that she had plans to include a horse in her Legend set performance.

It was rumoured that Kasabian is set to perform at the gig, as several predictions for surprise acts began circling the internet.

Finally, as the day came to an end festivalgoers were treated to a drone display as a spectacular way to end the evening.

Drone display lights up sky on first night of Glastonbury

Glastonbury Live

On the first night of the festival, a drone display took place over Worthy Farm.

Showing a rainbow peace sign, butterflies, the Pyramid Stage symbol, and the Glastonbury logo, fans were wowed by the lights in the night sky.

Crowds gathered sat near the main stage to watch the display, with many taking to X to reveal that they had a great time.

‘Oiiii @glastonbury that drone show was absolutely eliteeee! I was jumping!,’ said festivalgoer EastStandDan on X.

The drones were followed by a firework display which signalled a pretty beautiful end to what is set to be a hugely exciting weekend.

Dua Lipa set to use Glastonbury footage in new film

Dua Lipa

If you’re set to watch Dua Lipa at Glastonbury, make sure you’re camera-ready because reports suggest that she’s planning on using footage from her performance for a new film.

Per MailOnline , the Houdini singer will be using performance footage to create a film for fans to accompany a new single.

An industry source told The Mail on Sunday earlier this year: ‘[Ms Lipa] wants to get the Glastonbury experience across to fans all over the world, as many will never get the chance to attend.

‘The plan is to use some of the footage to accompany her new single release. We don’t think anyone has actually used footage from Glastonbury with their own single release before.

‘But there will also be loads of extra footage… and scope to release a Dua Lipa Glastonbury movie.’

Ahead of her live performance, the BBC released a documentary titled Dua Lipa: My Glastonbury, which saw the star reflect on her journey to the pyramid stage.

Glastonbury headliners are probably earning less than you think

Glastonbury

Although the festival is huge and has hosted anyone who is anyone in the music business, the fee actually isn’t so huge.

Festival founder Sir Michael Eavis revealed in 2013: ‘There’s a bog-standard price for the headliner. We get the headliners for a tenth of the normal price. So they’re not being paid very much.’

While the exact fee may have changed over the years, Emily Eavis has echoed the low fee sentiment. ‘We’re not in a situation where we’re able to just give people enormous amounts of money,’ she said in 2017.

‘So we’re really grateful for the bands that we get, because they’re basically doing it for the love of it.’

David Bowie’s former PR, Alan Edwards, revealed in his book that for his headline act in 2000, the Changes singer received just £20,000.

‘It was hilarious, it was about £20,000 or something and even then it wasn’t a lot of money,’ said Edwards per The Telegraph . ‘David was always an artist and he was driven by what he felt was the right thing and what he wanted to do, rather than what the payday was. He didn’t even ask. It was a cool thing to do. Glastonbury has got that wonderful legacy.’

The sheer size of Glastonbury from above blows minds

The next time someone asks you “How big is #Glastonbury ?”, a good way to try and start explaining the magnitude of the place would be to show them this clip of the Festival site captured from a hot air balloon 3000ft high in the sky… 🎈🪂🤯 🐦 #BirdsEyeView 📹 @Fly_AwayBalloon pic.twitter.com/b1kzvuIIf9 — Glasto Fest Feed (@GlastoFestFeed) June 26, 2024

Fans can’t get over the sheer size of Glastonbury when viewed from above.

An image of the festival taken from a hot air balloon is circulating online, revealing the enormity of the iconic Worthy Farm event.

Many couldn’t believe that many people could fit on the farm, questioning how the facilities can possibly handle all the traffic.

Kasabian reportedly set to perform secret set at Glastonbury

Kasabian

Rumours are swirling that rock band Kasabian will perform a secret set at Glasto.

A source told The Sun : ‘Glastonbury is always a big deal but this year Kasabian really can’t wait, especially as it’s a decade since they were last there.

‘They loved the idea of being a secret act and jumped at the idea when it was suggested by Glasto boss Emily Eavis.

‘The set will be an hour long.

‘Fans are going to go absolutely nuts when they realise Kasabian are playing and Glasto are ready for it to be absolutely mobbed.’

The band was formed in 1997 in Leicester and is currently comprised of Sergio Pizzorno, Chris Edwards, Ian Matthews, and Tim Carter.

They have released 11 albums, won a Brit award, and headlined Glastonbury in 2014.

Festival kicks off on officially the hottest day of the year

Glastonbury Festival

The weather has been getting a little bit hot across the UK, and it’s now officially been claimed that June 26, is the hottest day of the year so far.

Per The Guardian , The Met Office confirmed that a temperature of 30.3C was recorded at Heathrow on Wednesday, the same day festivalgoers queued to arrive at Glastonbury.

Met Office meteorologist, Kathryn Chalk, confirmed 30.30 C was ‘the highest maximum temperature this year.’

‘Yesterday we got to 30C and that was the first time we reached 30C since September 10 last year.’

The warm weather may seem like good news for the festival which has had serious issues with rainfall and flooding in the past – but it’s not expected to last.

The weather is set to become wetter, cooler, and windier as the weekend approaches with highs of 19C and 20C rather than highs of 28C as they experienced today in Somerset.

Glastonbury urine to be used as a fertiliser

In 2021, it was reported that fish were getting high from drugs in people’s pee in rivers near Glastonbury .

But this concerning report hasn’t stopped groups like Peequal who believe they can harness the waste product and turn it into a fertiliser.

Peequal, a women’s urinal provider, told The Times that they’re excited about the challenge the festival poses.

‘This is an absolutely critical step for us … We’re almost using Glastonbury as a kind of “worst case scenario” urine.

‘If we can clean that, then we can basically accept anything to go through our system.’

Human urine is full of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium which are key ingredients for crop growth.

Why the Euros won’t be showing at Glastonbury

England v Slovenia Jude Bellingham

Glastonbury is taking place at the same time as the Euros football tournament, but there’s a good reason why footy fans won’t be able to watch the game.

Organisers of the event have said that in order to avoid any clashes with headline acts, England’s round of 16 match won’t be shown during the festival.

The match will be taking place at 5pm on Sunday. This means it would overlap with acts including Janelle Monae on the Pyramid stage and Nothing But Thieves and Avril Lavigne on the Other Stage.

This is a change for the festival as the men’s and women’s World Cup quarter finals in 2010 and 2019, were both broadcast at the festival.

The statement released on May 2 by the organisers reads: ‘In previous years, we have endeavoured to show notable matches on big screens where possible, particularly on days before the main stages have opened.

‘However, with England and Scotland’s Last 16 matches potentially clashing with headline sets at this year’s Festival, the decision has been made that – as in 2014 and 2016 – should England or Scotland qualify from their groups, their Last 16 matches will not be shown at the Festival.’

Secret set rumours emerge

Every year, there are a few surprises in store for fans at the festival and this year is no different with eight slots left open across various stages, meaning there are eight acts yet to be confirmed.

Many rumours are flying about which acts will be filling these slots , and while they may prove false – as they have in the past – these are some big names being thrown around.

Glass Animals, Kings of Leon, Green Day, Liam Gallagher, Blur, Placebo, Troye Sivan, Tame Impala, and Weezer are all rumoured to be taking surprise slots.

A source also told The Independent that the rock band Kasabian are likely to be the mystery performers on Saturday at 6pm at the Woodsies stage.

Last year the Foo Fighters and Hozier were among the surprise acts and in 2022, George Ezra, Jack White and Bastille were surprise performers.

90s icon frantically searched her collection of 10,000 vinyls ahead of Glastonbury set

Sonique

Sonique has revealed to  Metro.co.uk  that she was desperately trying to find one record from her 10,000-strong collection to include in her Glasto set.

She’s playing on the Lonely Hearts Club stage as part of Thursday’s line-up and promised to bring ’90s vibes’ to the UK’s biggest festival.

Laughing, Sonique shared: ‘I’m trying to find one, it’s so annoying because I found it during the lockdown. I’m determined to find this one record so I can digitalize it and play it.’

At the time of the chat, the dance icon had searched through approximately 3,000 of her records in hopes of finding it before Glastonbury as a treat for fans.

She explained that lots of her early music consisted of ‘special mixes’ which simply don’t exist outside of her vinyl collection.

‘Everything’s familiar though,’ Sonique assured us. ‘They’ll know the songs, I’m not gonna hurt them too much and go too left field.

‘I’m just gonna keep it nice light and happy but non-commercial. Organic.’

Pints cause chaos as prices branded ‘criminal’

As the festival fills up, Glasto revellers have turned their attention to the bar and the pints are causing quite a kerfuffle.

Good news for beer and cider drinkers, pints have been priced in line with most London bars and come in at a not-too-shocking £6.50 to £7.

Close-up uf hands toasting in beer, at festival

Glasses of wine fit in a similar price bracket at £7.75 per glass or £30 per bottle.

However, anger was sparked when people realised a half pint of cola, lemonade or juice would set them back £3.

‘£6 for a pint of coke is a criminal offence!’ wrote Luke Dudley on X while Kien Tan added: ‘Londoners shrugging and saying “is that all?”‘

There’s no price difference between the sugar-free option but fans have called it a ‘criminal offence’ to charge £6 for a pint of Coke — normally around £3 outside of Glasto.

Other more eye-watering prices include a 250ml can of Red Bull, which normally costs £1.70, at a whopping £4.75.

Water is also a sore spot, while it is free around the site for refill, a can or a 500ml bottle of water sits at £2.50.

Looks like the best value for money is a pint of beer, who’d have thought it!

Charity warns of ‘triple dose’ ecstasy pills at festival

This year, Glastonbury attendees have been warned of potentially life-threatening ecstasy pills which have three times the common adult dose.

Drug  charity  The Loop raised the alarm about dangerous pills found in the UK after testing drugs at other festivals ahead of Glastonbury.

Parklife in Manchester saw the drugs being sold while more of the pills were discovered in Bristol.

The tests revealed pills had more than 300mg of MDMA in them.

The Loop’s testing suggests the MDMA market is changing: *Average pill strength increased to >180mg MDMA *The proportion of stronger pills increased to >1 in 10 with 250+mg *Bigger pills often indicate high strength & the need for extra caution #SizeMatters #TakeQuarterSipWater pic.twitter.com/A1NbZx9tRg — The Loop (@WeAreTheLoopUK) June 25, 2024

An overdose of MDMA could result in organ failure and other dangerous side effects and the vastness of Glasto could mean medics take longer to arrive.

Adam Waugh, training coordinator of The Loop, urged revelers to be cautious if deciding to take drugs: ‘The safest option is not to take pills. However, if someone is going to take them, it is safer to start with a quarter.’

He continued: ‘Wait at least 90 minutes before re-dosing, and do not assume that pills of a similar design have the same contents. Pills which look very similar can have different contents and be of differing strengths.’

Festivalgoer declares Glasto is just ‘overrated’

‘I was cold, tired and just wanted my bed,’ writes Ellen Manning for Metro as she revealed Glastonbury isn’t all it’s cracked up to be .

‘I knew I’d still have  a sleepless night  ahead of me where I’d be woken by the noise of people who sounded like they were enjoying themselves much more than I was.

‘It’s not quite how I had imagined Glastonbury would be.

‘Aged 28, I’d had ‘Glasto’ on  my bucket list  for some years – especially after other friends had declared how life-changing it was.

‘We also did all the things you’re meant to do – exploring the site and all its different parts, drinking cider in the rare moments the sun shone, and rocking the Glasto fashion statement of shorts and wellies.

‘But in spite of all this, Glastonbury sticks in my head as one of the more challenging and stressful experiences I’ve undergone in my 41 years.

‘The advantage of the hefty ticket cost, touted as great value because of the number of bands you can see, is actually a myth.

‘Maybe I missed something, who knows? Or maybe I’m not alone in wondering if it’s all a bit overrated.’

Does anyone have a horse Shania Twain can ‘borrow?’

Icon that is Shania Twain has big plans for her Sunday Legends slot performance.

As a country queen, those plans apparently include a last-minute horse, which she’s asked locals if she can ‘borrow’.

‘I love horses. I love animals,’ the 58-year-old singer told the BBC. ‘I’m going to see if there’s a horse around I can borrow.’

This isn’t for getting around Worthy Farm without getting muddy though as Shania continued: ‘I’d love to ride a horse to the stage… I’ll have to find out if it’s allowed.’

Turns out it’s not even the first time she’s thought about this as in 2010 and 2014 for her Las Vegas residency she would sing You’re Still The One atop a white horse.

Shania Twain with horse on stage at Caesar's Palace

She can also be seen speeding along on one through a yucca plantation in her 2005 music video for Don’t!.

Shania, who will take to the Pyramid Stage Sunday at 3.45pm, owns three Tennessee walking horses and two American saddlebreds.

Horse sourcing aside, the Man! I Feel Like A Woman superstar said she is feeling ‘overwhelmed’ by the Glasto honour.

She continued: ‘It’s been explained to me that it is a real event, a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Everyone keeps going: “Let me tell you about it. Let me tell you about my experiences”.

‘I’m planning on getting up there and having so much fun. I’d love to be able to sing with everyone and be a part of the journey of the crowd. So, I’m going to do everything familiar.

‘I want to do the hits. I want to do what they know.’

UK train stations heaving as Glastonbury-goers lug tents and sleeping bags in travel dash

Paddington Station in London is abuzz with Glastonbury activity as festival-goers lug their tents, supplies and clothes to Worthy Farm on the opening day of the festival.

Castle Cary Station near the festival – usually a quiet little station – is a similar sight, as ticketholders clamber off trains, up stairs and queue outside for their shuttle busses, set to take them to Glastonbury 2024.

Organiser Emily Eavis admits she used to be ‘terrified’ of Glastonbury as a child

Emily Eavis speaking to media at Glastonbury Festival 2024

While talking to Lauren Laverne on the BBC Radio 6 Music Breakfast Show this morning, Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis admitted she was ‘terrified’ of the festival growing up.

‘I don’t think you could have bribed me into it when I was little. I found the festival terrifying,’ Emily said, reflecting on her father Michael Eavis’ days organising the festival.

‘We’ve grown old together,’ she added. ‘What was a completely out of control wild ride in the 80s, it’s now a beast, but a beast we understand.’

Emily, who opened the gates to festival-goers this morning, said letting people experience the festival on opening day in is one of her favourite moments of the year.

‘I love it. It’s always one of my favourite moments, letting people in and seeing everyone flood the site,’ she said.

‘The atmosphere is just magic.’

Glastonbury revellers warned to take M5 route into festival amid ‘long delays’

Traffic is seen as revellers arrive at Glastonbury festival

Travel Somerset have warned Glastonbury-goers to take the M5 to Worthy Farm via Junction 25.

As of 11.30am, this route was suggested by the travel monitoring X page, who added that after Junction 25, revellers should follow the A358 to the A303 and then the A37.

According to ITV , traffic monitoring site Inrix said at 11am: ‘Long delays due to Glastonbury at Worthy Farm with many local side road closures on routes between Glastonbury to Pilton and around the festival site.’

Drum and bass DJ sets up camp in prime spot armed with grandfather clock and sofas

A drum and bass DJ who goes by the name Bob the Blender was among those already set up in a camping spot overlooking the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury by 9am on Wednesday morning.

The 22-year-old from Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, told the PA news agency he arrived on Tuesday as he knows the dairy farmers at Worthy Farm. He had not slept after playing a set at the festival’s stone circle that night.

‘I went over, asked for a set, and had one of the best times of my life… and that’s the greatness festivals can bring,’ he said.

‘Life is so hard at the moment, and sometimes you’ve just got to let loose and not worry. I’ve come close to death and this is what makes me feel alive – I don’t care about money, the future.

‘It’s almost religious coming to a place to dance with everyone.’

The DJ’s setup overlooking the festival’s famous main stage included sofas, armchairs and a grandfather clock he claimed had been ‘in the family for 200 years’.

First person into Glasto ‘charged past’ Emily Eavis

Emily Eavis opens the gates on the first day of the Glastonbury Festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset

Ollie Howarth has taken the title of the first person into Glastonbury 2024.

The 30-year-old finance worker revealed to PA that they got a coach at 4am, travelling from Bristol.

Somehow they managed to get past the people who had camped out from the night before and claim that coveted title.

He shared: ‘We saw Emily Eavis… it’s cool to actually see it from the very start.

‘She opened the gate and I was too busy thinking about getting in… we did the countdown and just charged past her.

‘It’s an honour and a privilege (to be the first through the gates) and now we’ve sent our friends off to put up the tents and we’re celebrating with a coffee.’

Migrants look to UK as Germany toughens laws - and warn that people smuggling could increase

Germany has toughened its migration laws, with speedier deportations and tougher rules for asylum applications. Sky News meets the people affected - who shed light on why the changes could see more migrants heading for the UK.

Migrant couple in Germany forced to separate under tigther deportation law.

Ahmed is on the move.

From a sun-bleached phone screen, he explains he's running from Germany after being threatened with deportation.

His target destination: the UK.

"I want to go to the UK because I'm afraid of the deportation in Germany. Already they try to deport me and that's why I left," he says in a video message.

It's hurriedly recorded somewhere on the coast of northern France.

In a few hours, he expects to get the signal from smugglers that they will try to cross the channel in a dinghy.

It's his second attempt in just a few days.

Ahmed speaks via video call

His first attempt failed after French police caught the group trying to pick up more passengers and slashed their dinghy.

Ahmed is one of a number of Iraqi Kurds Sky News teams have met recently who've paid smugglers to get to the UK after Germany toughened its deportation rules.

Rishi Sunak 's Illegal Migration Act, which created powers to send asylum seekers to Rwanda , hasn't put them off.

Ahmed is one of a number of Iraqi Kurds trying to reach the UK after Germany tightened its deportation rules.

"I'm not afraid about Rwanda or even about crossing the water because I'm looking for a better place to live," Ahmed says. "I'm very sure if the deportation doesn't stop in Germany, all the refugees in Germany will cross the border to UK."

Asylum applications in Germany rocketed to their highest rate since 2016 last year as more the 351,000 people arrived - around four times the amount coming to the UK.

In an attempt to reduce illegal migration, the German government announced tougher laws.

The new measures include faster decisions on asylum applications, restricted benefits and speedier deportations.

Authorities also have more powers when conducting searches and can hold people for up to 28 days ahead of return flights.

Deportations are up around a third on the same period last year with more than 6,300 people deported between January and April, according to official statistics.

Outside the Iraqi embassy in Berlin, we meet a group of protestors who say they're already feeling the effects of the new laws.

More from Sky News: Why is worldwide migration higher than ever? 'UK isn't safe,' says asylum seeker

Protesters outside the Iraq embassy in Berlin

Many have lived in Germany for years, some given temporary leave to remain, but have recently been told Iraq is safe to return to and it's time to leave.

"Some of my friends have been deported. The police raided the house at two or three in the morning," Goran tells me.

He says he's noticed a rise in people having their asylum claims rejected.

"I'm scared and can't sleep in my own home," he says.

He shows me a card which registers him as severely disabled with the Germany authorities.

Both his legs have been amputated and he says he can't live in Iraq.

Goran outside the Iraqi embassy in Berlin

I ask if he thinks people will flee to other countries such as France and the UK if deportations keep on rising.

"For sure, smuggling will increase," he replies. "People who feel their lives are politically threatened back in Iraq will try any way possible to reach another country."

Another lady shows us the medicine she relies on, which she says is hard to get in Iraq.

"They know that my country is not safe," she says. "I own videos of the killings, robbery and kidnapping of women."

The group holds up pictures of people they say are victims of deportation - a man injured as he tried to flee, and another they claim died at sea on a smuggler's boat.

The German government says the deportations are in line with international law.

A spokesperson from the interior ministry said in a statement: "The Act to Improve Repatriation, which came into force on 27 February 2024, contains numerous and extensive improvements in order to be able to enforce an obligation to leave the country even more effectively in future.

"Co-operation with Iraq takes place in a so-called non-contractual procedure in accordance with the principle of international law, according to which every state is obliged to take back its own citizens informally if they have no right of residence in the host country."

In a kitchen in southern Germany, we listen as our phone call to Kurdistan rings.

A young man answers.

Hama, not his real name, tells us he was deported to Iraq at the end of April.

He explains there were 25 immigrants on his deportation flight and 90 officers guarding them.

A deportation flight taking off in Germany

He claims his life is at risk in Kurdistan so he is in now in hiding.

"How did you feel on the flight home?" I ask.

"Very, very bad," he says. "It's not safe, I cannot go outside."

Hama is now indefinitely separated from his wife Shaida, who is Iranian and was given asylum in Germany.

Time ran out before they could gather the paperwork to prove they were legally married.

Shaida is devastated.

"We didn't sleep for 10 days. It's very hard to see him like this because I feel like they took something from us," she says.

"Germany, how can they say they are a democratic country? My husband didn't do anything wrong. He was on a course learning German and he was working."

Europe correspondent Adam Parsons speaks with migrant families trying to reach the UK for a better future.

Following the 2015 migrant crisis, Germany's then chancellor Angela Merkel announced an "open door policy" and took in more than a million refugees fleeing war in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq.

She defended the decision, saying it was an "extraordinary situation", but the migration policy outraged some voters and led to a surge in support for the far-right Alternative for Germany .

The policy was later abandoned but Germany remains one of the largest refugee-hosting countries in the world.

Faced with surging asylum applications last year, the current Chancellor Olaf Scholz agreed an "historic" stricter migration policy.

The chancellor is now under pressure to do more following the recent gains by the far right in the EU elections.

German state leaders have demanded he makes "proposals for effective control" ahead of a meeting on Thursday.

This month, after a police officer died following an attack by a failed asylum seeker, he pledged to tighten rules so the glorification of terrorist offences can be sufficient grounds for deportation.

He also said the government was working on ways to deport criminals and dangerous migrants back to countries such as Afghanistan and Syria.

I ask Shaida if she agrees when politicians say nations have to have a limit and can't grant every asylum application they receive.

"I accept what you're saying but Germany doesn't know how to do it fairly," she replies.

Shaida shows me pictures of herself in her wedding dress standing by her husband in the German countryside.

It could be years before the man she loves is allowed to return.

Germany's open door period is a distant memory.

As for Ahmed - he's now in the UK.

After several failed attempts, including one when the French police cleared the beach with tear gas, he managed to slip away on a dinghy and into British waters.

Top 5 airlines serving from Germany to the United Kingdom

It never happened. Bumped 2 times then cancelled. 4 cancelled flights after that

We did not get to experience LH cityline Flight cancelled 15 minutes before takeoff No alternatives offered

Lufthansa staff was fantastic, but the airport was a mess. I was at this airport in the past and I have never experienced any problem, but this time it was nutty because of soccer tournament: UEFA 2024 championship

In this flight was no good it was delay, change of door

While booking through Lufthansa, when flight is operated by other airlines, you don't necessarily get the quality of Lufthansa. That said, I was passed over on both meals served. While I had my eyes closed or asleep, no attempt was made to serve me or wake me for the service, which is something new. When I took it upon myself to get out of my seat, track down an attendant, and ask for a meal, the attendant would kindly serve me. Of more concern, however, is the lack of selection for the meal. Being diabetic and insulin dependent, I could not eat what was served. The first meal was pasta with a small slaw/salad and a bun. The second meal was a muffin and another pastry. In all, I could only eat the salad, which amounted to next to nothing. Fortunately (for Discover) I had brought food/snacks to carry me through the flight. Otherwise, I might have reached a low blood sugar. With diabetes becoming more prevalent, Discover may consider more eating options to accomodate all passengers.

This was a short flight and not much to share. The flight crew was very kind.

Good flight, but left late and food was only okay!

I was not seated with my husband despite paying to choose seats. My luggage was not put on the plane so didn't get it for 3 days.

The boarding process is not well organized at all. It need to be totally revised with an emphasis on order.

What food? What entertainment? The questionnaire does not make sense.

Be sure to check bags for 23 kg,.(50 lbs) Coming from US I chose the wrong size luggage weight when I checked in on my phone, and had to pay more when I dropped it off

The flight was delayed for over 1 hour. The boarding process is appalling making you wait for 30 minutes in the passage leading to the outside door without any seats.

The on board air steward really made the journey. He was very entertaining

I was disappointed there was a 40 minute delay to flight

Well Is extra charge for everything and other companies include that and the price.

The trip itself was good. I have given only good as rating, because my first flight has been cancelled by a different airline and that caused disruption in my trip. I spent over ten hours in Luton airport and that caused me high tiredness, sickness, because of the very early initial trip. easyJet staff has been professional and friendly.

Not great! Rude staff in London and the worse baggage reclaim I’ve ever seen. Great staff in flight but doubt I’ll fly with them again

You booked my 7 year old son to sit on his own without his mum and dad in s separate row between two unfriendly adult strangers. The plane was disgusting and dirty, aisles and everywhere sticky. The lounge waiting area was filthy carpet and had insufficient seats so we had to sit on it to wait for 35 minutes and my 7 year old sone played on this filthy lounge carpet. The outside of the plane appeared clean. The pilot was helpful with the route and what to expect weather etc.

Comfort isn’t a word one uses on economy airlines! Boarding was okay, delayed but okay, the flight was good, quick and time was made up.

The seat leg room seemed much tighter on the way home My cheese toasty wasn’t that hot - didn’t realise till half eaten

Long delay. Terrible airport - too busy, not enough seating or food/drink outlets.

The seat could have had more cushioning. My backside was sore after 30 minutes of the flight

The flight departed and arrived on time. A member of the staff at the gate was awful. She asked me to get the duty free purchases out of the hand luggage to see if it would fit inside their box, which it did. It was the embarrassment in front of the other passengers and the hassle of getting my stuff out of the bag and back in again that was totally unnecessary. They try to squeeze every single euro they can get out of their passengers. The seats were uncomfortable with little space in between them. The flight was quite noisy with lots of announcements trying to sell food, drinks, gifts and souvenirs etc.

Cardiff is a great airport but they pen you in at a gate way too small for passenger numbers. Called to the gate too soon and air conditioning was not in operation despite the heat. Cardiff should do better as a small relatively quiet regional airport.

Good, everything went straight forward and on time, I am satisfied

Perfect timing, perfect departure, lovely crew on the ground and in the air.

Good flight. Take off a little late but make up the time

Everything’s went straight forward, no issues, good service and friendly crew

Left on time and arrived on time both ways, thank you

The flight was 45 mins delayed but the crew provided water and necessities like tissues

All luggage was lost. Had an almost 2 hour layover, but still non of our luggage was able to get to the plane.

The staff were so supportive and food was delicious on the flight. Always enjoying flying on BA!

BA lost all our luggage on our trip home. There were many others who lost their luggage on our flight as well. They were nice enough about it. We have filed ‘luggage claims’ and they say they have found them and will be here in a day or so. I hope this is true! Otherwise the flight was good. The food was very English, not so great. But I expected that on British Airways! The crew always exceptionally nice.

Food could have been better. It was much better on the LHR to SFO leg than on the return leg.

BA experiences are seldom great these days. As has become the norm for BA, the flight departed late and arrived late at its destination. Very little difference these days between BA and the so called budget airlines.

The flight was on time, the plane was at the gate, and then the excuses started. First, it was a part that was needed, then it was short on staff, but they're due to arrive soon, and finally cancellation. Two large triple 7 planes to London were both canceled, leading to over 600 people looking for another flight, which of course was impossible. I had a one week holiday and was forced to spend two nights in hotels in Chicago. Just appalling. I doubt I will ever use American Airlines again.

we departed 5 hours late. Instead of 10pm it was after 2AM and the business lounge thew us out at 1AM and everyone was standing around the boarding gates. When we did board, the crew was nice, served dinner and then was not to be seen again until we landed. No breakfast (which is not great for diabetes)

Cancelling our flight, and our entire vacation was a bummer. Would not recommend.

Flight was 4.5 hours late leaving New Orleans. Food wasted. Couldn't serve dinner. Missed our connection
