2024 CARS Tour Schedule Revealed

CONCORD, N.C.- The 2024 CARS Tour schedule was announced Nov. 27.

Additionally, zMax was announced as the title sponsor for the 2024 season, along with the renewal of FloRacing as the official broadcast partner of the series going forward.

The series will hold 19 events for the second year in a row, with all events’ broadcasts being held on FloRacing. Both the Late Model Stock Car and Pro Late Model seasons will begin at Southern National Motorsports Park in March, with the Pros opening their season on March 2, while the Late Model Stocks will begin their season one week later on March 9.

The two biggest highlights of the schedule are the return of Orange County Speedway and a second date at North Wilkesboro Speedway to go along with the NASCAR All-Star Race week event in May. Both divisions will be at Orange County on April 20, while both divisions will crown their champion at North Wilkesboro in October for a Friday-Saturday two-day event.

“There is a lot to unpack and a lot to be excited about this season – two trips to North Wilkesboro and adding Orange County to the schedule,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. “It’s going to be tough competition for the drivers and a great show for our fans in the stands, and for those watching on FloRacing. Our partnership with FloRacing has helped tremendously in building exposure and excitement around the zMAX CARS Tour. I’m looking forward to continuing that.”

Earnhardt is a longtime team owner in the CARS Tour, having been a part of the tour with at least a part-time schedule every year since the beginning of the series in 2015, including championship seasons with Josh Berry in 2017 and Carson Kvapil in 2022 and 2023.

“This year we committed ourselves to helping grow an already-established CARS Tour and regional asphalt racing as a whole,” Kevin Harvick added. “Having the opportunity to bring on a respected brand and partner like zMAX does so much for the health and professionalism of the zMAX CARS Tour.”

Much like Earnhardt, Harvick is involved in the series through team ownership, with the revival of Kevin Harvick Inc. for 2023 featuring a Late Model Stock car that ran part time in the series in 2023. Harvick was behind the wheel at North Wilkesboro, with Layne Riggs filling out the rest of the season. Harvick has hinted at expansion for the team heading into 2024.

The 2023 CARS Tour season kicks off Saturday at Kenly, North Carolina’s Southern National Motorsports Park for both the Late Model Stock Car and Pro Late Model divisions, and it will do so live on FloRacing for the first time. If you’re new to the CARS Tour, allow us to catch you up to speed on everything you need to know about the premier Late Model Stock Car touring division in the Southeast.

2023 CARS Tour at Southern National Motorsports Park

What is the cars tour.

Let’s start with a brief history lesson. The CARS Tour was founded in late 2014 and debuted in 2015. It began out of the remnants of the old Pro Cup Series, which was a stock car touring series. Then-owner Jack McNelly revamped his series into a dual Late Model touring series, featuring Late Model Stock Cars and Super Late Models.

As the Late Model Stock Car division grew healthier and healthier, the Super Late Model division began to falter and car counts started to shrink. McNelly then did away with the Super Late Model division in favor of a new Pro Late Model division before the 2022 season began.

At the end of the 2022 season, series founder Jack McNelly sold the CARS Tour to an ownership group consisting of Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, and Justin Marks. The new ownership group has made it a point to look towards the future, while also keeping an eye on the past to ensure that the CARS Tour doesn’t lose any of its grassroots charm while it continues to grow.

What Are The Divisions?

As we mentioned above, the CARS Tour consists of the Late Model Stock Car division, which has been around since the series began in 2015, and the Pro Late Model division, which is now entering its second season.

The Late Model Stock Car is a “perimeter” chassis that is raced primarily in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Most tracks in the Carolinas, Virginia, and eastern Tennessee run the Late Model Stock Car as its headlining division.

The Pro Late Model is a “straight-rail” chassis, identical to the Super Late Model. The main difference between a Pro and Super is that Pro Late Models run a Crate engine that produces about 425 horsepower compared to the 550-600 horsepower that Super Late Model engines produce. The Pro Late Model is a cheaper alternative to the Supers, which has made the discipline become more of a developmental division than a headlining division around the country.

Who Are The Stars?

One place where the CARS Tour certainly isn’t lacking is in the star-power department. Between younger hotshoes and the grizzled veterans, the Late Model Stock Car division is jam-packed with big names.

We’ll start off with Carson Kvapil, the defending LMSC division champion. The 19-year-old Kvapil is a second-generation racer, the son of NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, Travis Kvapil. He also races the No. 8 for JR Motorsports, so you know Kvapil has all of “Junior Nation” backing him.

Then there’s 45-year-old Deac McCaskill on the opposite end of the spectrum. McCaskill has won championships at Southern National Motorsports Park, the site of this weekend’s season-opener, and he’s a nine-time winner with the CARS Tour. Oh, and he was also the series’ second LMSC division champion, claiming the title back in 2016.

And then there’s the “Touring 12,” which this year is made up of Brandon Pierce, Brendon Queen, Connor Hall, Cale Gale, Chad McCumbee, Jacob Heafner, Mini Tyrell, Isabella Robusto, Andrew Grady, Dylon Wilson, Chase Burrow, and Mason Diaz.

The Touring 12 is a program that is meant to place extra emphasis on drivers and teams who commit to helping the series grow by racing full-time, and through social media and marketing efforts.

Where Are The Races?

With the CARS Tour being a Mid-Atlantic touring series, the series stays in the Carolinas and Virginia. The 2023 season consists of 19 dates, with the Late Model Stock Cars racing 16 times, and the Pro Late Models racing 13 times.

The 2023 season will open with a LMSC/PLM doubleheader at the 4/10-mile high-banked oval of Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday, March 11, and it will end on November 4 at North Carolina’s Caraway Speedway.

In North Carolina, the CARS Tour will race at the aforementioned Southern National Motorsports Park, as well as Hickory Motor Speedway, Ace Speedway, North Wilkesboro Speedway, Tri-County Speedway, Caraway Speedway, Wake County Speedway, and New River All-American Speedway.

In South Carolina, the series will run at the Florence Motor Speedway, and Dillon Motor Speedway.

And in Virginia, the series will race at the Langley Speedway, Dominion Raceway, and South Boston Speedway.

How Can I Watch?

Every single CARS Tour event will be broadcast live on FloRacing due to a new partnership agreement between the CARS Tour, NASCAR, and FloRacing. All 19 events will be included in the annual FloRacing subscription for just $150. If you are not yet a subscriber, you can become one by clicking here.

Man arrested for allegedly leading car theft ring

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE CADDO PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE:

One man is under arrest for spearheading a Caddo Parish car theft ring, said Sheriff Jay Long.

On June 18, Sheriff’s Detective Adam Jones and the US Marshals Task Force arrested Demarcus Clements, 34, at Bally’s Casino in downtown Shreveport. Clements is facing multiple charges, including illegal possession of stolen property, unauthorized entry of a place of business, and motor vehicle theft.

Sheriff’s detectives believe Clements stole more than 21 vehicles in Caddo Parish. He first came under investigation in 2022 for the theft of several vehicles at the Union Pacific Railroad Reiser Yard at 7555 West Bert Kouns. After stealing the vehicles, he altered their appearance by covering their original paint with a vinyl wrap.

A search warrant obtained during the investigation led to the discovery of key evidence confirming Clements as the ringleader in the theft of 18 additional cars from the Greater Shreveport Auto Auction on Greenwood Road.

When Clements was located, he attempted to flee on foot but was successfully apprehended by Detective Jones and Task Force agents. Clements was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on multiple arrest warrants.

How to Test-Drive a New or Used Car

The best test drive starts with a solid plan before you get the keys

A test drive is your only chance to evaluate a vehicle before you buy it. In most cases, you’ll have a half hour tops to judge how a vehicle performs and whether it meets your needs, all while navigating an unfamiliar route while a salesperson yammers in your ear. If you’re shopping for a used car, you’ll also have to check for any mechanical issues.

Before You Head to the Dealership

Before you drive, on the road.

It’s a short amount of time for such an important and costly purchase. Many cars have personalities, and it’s important to find one that matches yours. Little things that might seem insignificant now could become major irritants down the road.

That’s why the car-buying experts at CR put together this list of tips, tricks, and must-do’s to help you get the most out of your test drive.

Make appointments. Try to schedule test drives back-to-back, so you can compare vehicles more easily. When you call the dealerships, confirm that the vehicles you want to test-drive are in stock and equipped the way you want—if you’re contemplating a base model, it doesn’t make sense to test-drive a fully loaded version with different features and a different engine and/or suspension.

Plan your route. A salesperson or private seller may suggest routes that hide or minimize problems. We recommend finding your own path over different kinds of road surfaces and in various conditions, both city and highway. Try driving over speed bumps or through a rutted parking lot. Drive as long as possible—at least 30 minutes. If you don’t know the area, drive the route in your own car before you get to the dealership so you can focus on the test drive instead of the next turn.

Bring a friend. They can help you stay focused on this checklist. If a salesperson comes along for the ride, your buddy can deal with the small talk while you concentrate on the vehicle.

Grade your current vehicle. Make a list of the things you like and dislike about it: performance, comfort, features, fuel economy, controls, and any idiosyncrasies. Does the seat give you a backache on long trips? Is there too little storage space? Are there cup holders that don’t hold drinks securely? Which tech features does your car lack? Put down all your gripes—large and small—so that you don’t overlook those things in the new car.

Find out if your car and phone get along. Connect your car with both a cable and Bluetooth, then see how easy it is to make calls and play your music. (Don’t forget to delete your profile when you’re done.) Most new cars have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so ask for a demo. If you like how they display your phone’s maps on the screen, you can save money and skip optional built-in navigation.

Check for safety features. The window sticker will show if a car has the three features that CR thinks ought to be standard: automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning (FCW), and blind spot warning (BSW). Then spend time with the car’s onscreen menus to see whether they let you customize these features. For example, can you easily turn off lane keeping assistance (LKA) without turning off BSW?

Get comfortable. Explore all the adjustments for the seats, steering wheel, and side-view mirrors. Make note of how much headroom you have, as well as visibility out the back window. Can you adjust the seat belt height so it’s not annoying? Are the seat cushions too soft or too firm? You should be able to make the interior fit you like a glove.

Measure twice, buy once. Bring along items you frequently carry with you: the dog crate, sports equipment, the fold-up stroller, and summer camping gear. And didn’t your daughter say she wanted to learn to play the tuba? Investigate whether the seats fold down flat for easy loading. Inspect the glove box and center console; some cars lack available space for a purse. If you have a small garage or are buying a very big vehicle, make sure it fits. We’ve heard horror stories of people who had to return their new trucks because their garages weren’t big enough.

Bring the family. Bring everyone who will use or spend lots of time in the car—including kids and grandparents—to make sure the space works well for them. If you’ll have little kids, teens, or elders as passengers, pay special attention to the rear seats. Are they easy to get into and out of? How is the headroom? Is there sufficient legroom?

Try out the controls. Try the tasks you do every day—changing radio stations, adjusting the heat, entering a destination into the navigation system. Are they straightforward or are they hidden deep within convoluted onscreen menus, which will be distracting as you drive? Can you perform common functions using the controls on the steering wheel?

Get a sense of ride comfort. Take the opportunity to drive over a stretch of imperfect pavement. The better cars have suspensions that swallow up pavement flaws without sharing them with the vehicle’s occupants. They feel tight and controlled over bumps while quickly regaining their composure.

Soft suspensions feel pillowy over holes and ruts but allow the vehicle body to wallow up and down a bit after a large bump. Sporty cars usually have a firm ride, often a trade-off for their better handling characteristics, which can get fatiguing on longer drives. Some cars, especially small ones, have a “busy” ride, which means the body makes constant little jittery motions up and down or side to side. Avoid that if you can.

Evaluate the acceleration. It’s a scary feeling when you need acceleration now to pull out into traffic but the engine feels unwilling—or unable—to deliver. So make sure you try a quick acceleration run from a stop and a rolling merge into fast freeway traffic. You want to be able to maintain highway speeds without flogging the car. If the engine has to scream to get you up to highway speed, look elsewhere.

Strong, dependable acceleration is one part engine power, one part effective transmission. Try climbing a steep hill to note whether the transmission downshifts smoothly and how the engine responds. You shouldn’t feel any clunks or harsh, abrupt shifts. There should be seamless power delivery without any hiccups.

Hit the brakes. During your drive, pay attention to how the brakes feel. Are they responsive without being too touchy? Braking is hard to evaluate thoroughly without professional help, but you can do a basic assessment. Just make sure to find a deserted space and warn the salesperson in advance.

Try to get a sense of how the vehicle responds to soft and more forceful braking. It should be smooth and progressive. Grabby brakes that suck out your eyeballs or brakes that feel as if you’re pushing into a bowl of oatmeal don’t help driver confidence. The brakes on hybrid and electric cars may feel different because they incorporate mechanisms to capture braking energy to charge the battery. We’ve found that they take some time to get used to, so don’t judge too harshly on your first try.

Put steering and handling to the test. Good steering should feel easy and controllable through turns—not so quick that it feels darty and not so slow that it takes a lot of turning to make a maneuver. You should get "feedback" through the steering wheel: A good system will tell you what the wheels are doing on the road. Lesser systems feel numb and disconnected from the wheels.

Try parallel parking and doing a K-turn to evaluate the turning radius. When driving, consider how the car responds to quick maneuvers. Check whether it tracks well when driving straight ahead or whether it requires small, continual corrections. Because the vehicle’s response to quick steering maneuvers is a key factor in avoiding a crash, it’s important to be comfortable with the way your vehicle reacts. Just don’t play race car driver. A test drive isn’t the time to push an unfamiliar vehicle to its handling and braking limits. You can rely on our avoidance maneuver results instead.

Be quiet and listen. At one point during the test drive, turn off the radio and close all the windows so that you can hear what is going on, especially at highway speeds. Is the engine loud during cruising or only when accelerating? Does a hybrid car suddenly get louder when the gas engine kicks in? Is there excessive wind noise? Side mirrors are a big source of wind noise, as are roof rails on SUVs and wagons. Tires can be another source of noise. High-performance tires on cars and off-road tires on SUVs and pickup trucks tend to create the most noise. Though annoying, this noise is often a big part of the ownership experience, and people who gravitate toward these vehicles are usually not bothered by it. But the test drive is a good way to find out your tolerance level.

Check your visibility. This can vary greatly, even among similar vehicles. But you can tell which ones have the best visibility during your back-to-back drives. Don’t forget to check rear visibility when backing up, and the size of the rear blind zone. Backup cameras are just part of the rear-visibility equation. They shouldn’t have to compensate for thick roof pillars and small windows. If you can, try a test drive after dark. This way you’ll be able to tell how well the headlights perform; which switches, gauges, and controls are lighted for nighttime use; and whether there are any annoying reflections in the windshield.

Don’t fall in love. A new car is likely to overly impress you because it’s better than the one you’re driving now. It’s important to compare it with other new vehicles that interest you rather than with your current car. The more vehicles you test-drive, the better perspective you’ll develop.

Trans Am brings muscle cars to Elkhart Lake to race at Road America this weekend

cars tour schedule

The venerable Trans Am Series is back as a headliner for the second straight year at Road America this weekend after being relegated to support status for decades.

Trans Am features purpose-built machines with muscle car roots racing separately in the main division and then a more restrictive category, TA2. The hottest driver in the series is Paul Menard , the former NASCAR driver and Brickyard 400 winner from Eau Claire.

Although the weekend isn’t one of the season’s biggest for the track, the Trans Am Speed Tour provides a variety of cars and levels of competition that show off the circuit.

If you want to go to the event – or watch it on TV – here are some important tips for newcomers and updates for veterans:

More: New viewing areas, a new weekend, and what about NASCAR? Q&A with Road America's president

More: Key Wisconsin auto racing events for the 2024 season

Where is Road America?

Road America is Wisconsin’s largest racetrack, an internationally known 4-mile road course on 640 acres in rural Sheboygan County. The main entrance is off Hwy. 67, less than 5 miles north of downtown Plymouth and 3 miles southeast of Elkhart Lake.

What is the Trans Am Speed Tour?

In addition to two series of Trans Am sports cars, Speed Tour events encompass a variety of open-wheel series, including F1600, F2000 and F1000 Championship Series and the Atlantic Championship Series, and the Porsches and Ferraris of the International GT series.

How much do tickets cost for Trans Am weekend at Road America?

Admission is $35 Friday, $45 Saturday and Sunday, or $80 for the weekend. Paddock admission is included.

Anyone 16 and under gets in free with a paid adult admission.

Tickets are available at the gate.

Can fans bring their own food and drinks to Road America?

Carry-ins are permitted.

Concession stands offer a wide variety of choices, as well.

Where’s the best place to watch Trans Am at Road America?

The beauty of Road America is the ability for spectators to move around the grounds and watch from various places within what management affectionally calls “America’s National Park of Speed.”

Popular spectator areas include Turn 5, a 90-degree left at the bottom of a long hill, and Canada Corner (Turn 12). Over the past couple of years, the track has opened up access at the Carousel (Turn 9-10), a long right-hand sweeper, and the Kink, the high-speed right that follows it.

What is the weekend schedule for the Trans Am Speed Tour at Road America?

Activity begins at 8 a.m. each day.

Friday has mostly practice sessions with some qualifying.

Saturday action is highlighted by the TA2 race at 12:05 p.m. with other practice, qualifying and races before and after.

The 100-mile Trans Am Series main event is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Sunday, with three races before and two after.

What’s the difference between TA and TA2 ?

Cars in both categories are tube frame chassis with bodies that replicate production models.

Naturally aspirated, carbureted V8 engines in Trans Am produce 850 horsepower or more. Sequential shifters are permitted. TA2 cars weigh 50 pounds more, engines are restricted to 530 horsepower and tight rules keep costs down and competition tight.

The Tran Am race has 16 cars on the entry list for Sunday, with seven in the primary class among the four competing. Saturday’s TA2 race has 31 cars on the entry list.

Are the Trans Am races from Road America on television or streaming?

The TA2 and Trans Am races are both scheduled for live coverage on MAVTV , and highlight shows are scheduled for July 4 with TA2 at 7 p.m. and Trans Am at 8 p.m.

Who are Trans Am drivers to watch at Road America?

Paul Menard , the Eau Claire native who competed in NASCAR from 2003-21, has won three straight races and four of the six held so far this season. The 43-year-old has raced in Trans Am sporadically since stepping out of the NASCAR cockpit.

Veteran Chris Dyson is chasing Menard in the points race and frequently on the track. The three-time and defending series champion has four finishes of second plus one victory.

Kaylee Bryson , who became the first woman to win a USAC national series race , also has been racing in the SGT class of Trans Am, which meant skipping the Silver Crown round last weekend at Madison International Speedway. She has one class victory.

Josh Carlson is the grandson of longtime Midwest short track standout Joe Shear and races a car with his familiar number, 36.

Short-track stock car fans will recognize some TA2 competitors, as well. Gio Ruggiero was at the Milwaukee Mile two weeks ago with the ASA STARS National Tour and is scheduled to compete in the Slinger Nationals next month.

TA2 drivers who also race in NASCAR who are on the entry list include: Austin Green , son of NASCAR driver-turned-official David Green; prospect Connor Mosack ; and Matt Tifft , whose career was interrupted by health problems.

Rafa Matos , a former IndyCar racer and the 2008 Indy Lights champion, has won three of the seven TA2 races and holds a commanding lead in the standings. Matos is in his seventh season of TA2 with two championships to his credit.

What other race weekends will Road America have in the 2024 season?

Some of the bigger remaining weekends on the schedule include the WeatherTech International Challenge vintage races (July 11-14), IMSA sports cars (Aug. 1-4) and the SCCA National Championship Runoffs (Oct. 4-6).

The Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour is set to make its northernmost trip on the 2023 schedule Saturday evening with the CARS Tour 125 presented by NAPA Auto Parts and Chaney Enterprises at Dominion Raceway.

Acting as a spiritual successor to Old Dominion Speedway, which operated from 1948 until its closure in 2012, Dominion is one of the newest short tracks in the southeast with modern amenities that include a restaurant on the frontstretch, along with a vibrant weekly racing atmosphere.

In the brief time the track has been on the CARS Tour schedule, races at Dominion have been dominated by high speeds, attrition, and close racing; themes which are expected to be prevalent once again when the stars of the LMSC Tour travel up to Thornburg, Virginia for their seventh race of the year.

Mini Tyrrell to have Walter Reed Hospital patients as special guests

Ever since his childhood, Mini Tyrrell has been passionate about supporting children that are suffering from pediatric cancer.

Tyrrell is going all in with his mission in Saturday’s CARS Tour 125 presented by NAPA Auto Parts and Chaney Enterprises at Dominion Raceway, as he is inviting 12 patients and their families from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland to the facility, where they will participate in a full weekend of events on and off the track.

“We got in contact with Paul Nichols, who is involved with the Walter Reed Hospital and Children’s National,” Tyrrell said. “My dad and I got to talking, and we wanted to do something that would involve the CARS Tour and the Touring 12 program, so we decided to host 12 families. What better place to do this than my home track of Dominion?”

The festivities for the Walter Reed patients kick off on Friday night with a dinner and comedy show, which will also see each member of the Touring 12, Tyrrell included, interact with the families. On Saturday morning, a chapel service will be held for the patients, followed by a tour of Dominion and participation in driver introductions.

Tyrrell said the idea for this event started when he brought a young boy to Florence Motor Speedway that was battling sickle cell disease. He recalled how much fun the boy and his family had that weekend and wanted to expand upon this concept that also encompassed the Touring 12 members of the CARS LMSC Tour.

All expenses for the families are being covered by Tyrrell for Dominion. His main goal for the weekend is to ensure everyone enjoys themselves leading up for the race, with Tyrrell expressing optimism over how such an event could serve as a launching pad for similar CARS Tour fundraisers in the future.

“I’ve raised almost half a million dollars for pediatric cancer through various organizations and fundraising programs,” Tyrrell said. “I enjoy helping people, I’ve done it all my life and I wanted to bring something cool to the racetrack. Hopefully this ignites a fire for everyone else to start doing nice things for other people as well.”

Anyone who wishes to donate to Tyrrell as he supports of children battling pediatric cancer can contact him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Kaden Honeycutt determined to earn first victory of 2023

Kaden Honeycutt has done everything except win in the CARS LMSC Tour this year.

Despite missing Florence Motor Speedway earlier this year due to commitments in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Honeycutt finds himself fifth in the LMSC Tour point standings with four Top 5s and plenty of confidence on his side as he prepares to head up to Dominion Raceway on Saturday evening.

“We’ve had a good year so far,” Honeycutt said. “The only bad race for us was at Ace [Speedway] and that was still an eighth-place finish after we came from 25 th in the middle of it. We’re just trying to win races and that’s what we’re all here to do. It’s only a matter of time before one of these races click.”

Honeycutt nearly broke through for a victory in the LMSC Tour’s most recent outing during the VisitHampton.com 125 at Langley Speedway. He led a race-high 94 laps until his right-rear tire started to get hot, causing Honeycutt to lose speed and settle for third.

Despite the disappointment of narrowly claiming his second LMSC Tour win at Langley, Honeycutt has been more than satisfied with his performance at Mike Darne Racing. The deal between the two came together in January to specifically chase wins, which remains the goal for them as the LMSC Tour approaches the halfway point.

Dominion is not a track Honeycutt would consider to be his favorite, but he does have finishes of third and sixth in the LMSC Tour at the facility. With the speed he has shown in Darne’s equipment all year, Honeycutt believes he can start up front and put himself in the perfect position to earn his first victory of 2023.

“Qualifying will be insanely important [at Dominion] like it is every time,” Honeycutt said. “As long as we can qualify good and turn well the entire time, I think we’ll be fine. We’ll keep working hard to make sure we’re fast every lap.”

Bobby McCarty looks to win at Dominion for second straight weekend

One advantage three-time CARS LMSC Tour champion Bobby McCarty holds over the rest of the field is that he is fresh off a win at Dominion Raceway.

Taking a checkered flag in Dominion’s ‘Big One’, a $5,000-to-win Late Model Stock event, has provided McCarty a sense of optimism for this weekend’s CARS Tour 125 presented by NAPA Auto Parts and Chaney Enterprises, where he looks to break a winless drought in the LMSC Tour that dates to October 2021.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” McCarty said. “Everybody at R&S Race Cars has been working very hard and I feel like we’re starting to click. We had a good run at Langley and [got this win] at Dominion, so we want to start knocking off a few more here.”

McCarty believes his first season with R&S Race Cars has gone according to plan even though they only have one Top 5 so far, which came at Ace Speedway. He particularly loves the chemistry developed between himself and his crew members, which he expects will gradually lead to better results.

One factor that has led to the cohesion was McCarty’s existing relationship with R&S Race Cars co-owner Marcus Richmond. McCarty has been impressed by how much R&S Race Cars has grown under Richmond and Steve Stallings but knew it would take some time to fully adjust to his new environment.

Now that McCarty has several races under his belt with R&S Race Cars, he has high expectations on his outlook for the rest of 2023. He said Dominion presents several unique challenges compared to other tracks, but added the notebook from last weekend’s race should be beneficial to helping him park his No. 6 Solid Rock Carriers/Bilstein Ford in victory lane.

“With Dominion, there’s so much speed,” McCarty said. “South Boston is fast too, but at Dominion you’re carrying more speed into the corner. The track doesn’t hurt tires, but it does make them gain a ton of air pressure, so you have to be mindful of that along with being aero tight. We’re just going to do exactly what we did last Saturday going into this one.”

Saturday’s CARS Tour 125 presented by NAPA Auto Parts and Chaney Enterprises will also have features for three of Dominion Raceway’s weekly classes in the Va. Racers, UCARS and Southern Ground Pounders. The 125-lap Late Model Stock race serves as the third event of the night, with all on-track action being streamed on FloRacing starting at 7 p.m. ET.
