About Bay Area Tournament Series

The Bay Area Tournament Series (BATS) was founded in 2023 by former 5th round pick of the SF Giants Kyle Gross and former San Jose State University standout catcher Justin Hughes. Both Kyle and Justin have operated the Bay Area Collegiate League since 2016 and are now offering both youth and high school baseball  leagues.

BATS offers league play for the spring season (9u-14u) and Summer Season (14u-16u). Please inquire about our leagues that combine the best of tournament ball with the league play that us parents grew up on!

No. 5 Los Gatos 10, Mountain View 1

Los Gatos scored 10 runs on just six hits Friday, taking advantage of Mountain View’s defensive struggles to win this Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division game.

The Spartans had five errors, with three leading to Los Gatos runs as the Wildcats stayed a game behind Los Altos and Wilcox in the standings.

Los Gatos senior AJ Ljepava batted 3 for 4 and scored a run. Donovan Freed hit a solo home run. Pitcher AJ Minyard pitched a no-hitter and allowed just a run in seven innings pitched.

Los Gatos improved to 10-2, 3-1 and will play Homestead on Thursday. Mountain View dropped to 6-8, 2-2.

Freedom 4, Lincoln-Stockton 3

The Falcons halted Lincoln’s late-game comeback to pick up a road win and improve to 8-5.

Down 4-1 in the seventh, Lincoln scored twice to get within a run of sending the game to extra innings. With the bases loaded and one out, senior pitcher Adrian Boles retired back-to-back batters to seal the win.

Freedom junior Adam Boccia had two hits and two RBIs. Caleb Emmons had two hits in three at-bats and an RBI.

Starting pitcher Cael Green pitched four innings and didn’t allow a run while striking out two. Boles came in relief and struck out seven in three innings.

Freedom will return to Bay Valley Athletic League play on Tuesday against Pittsburg, which is in first place.

No. 2 St. Francis 2, Canyon 0

Kate Munnerlyn allowed just a single hit to lead St. Francis to a gritty co-championship game win over Anaheim powerhouse Canyon at the Michelle Carew Classic in Southern California.

The Lancers would have played Norco High School in the gold bracket championship game on Saturday, but bad weather led to the tournament ending a day early and winners of the semifinal games were crowned co-champions.

The Lancers scored their first run in the first inning when Rebecca Quinn drove in Jaime Oakland on a sacrifice fly. The second run came in the second after Isabella Sandoval was hit by a pitch, which brought home Shannon Keighran with the bases loaded.

St. Francis beat Mission Viejo earlier in the day and defeated Otay Ranch and Roosevelt on Thursday.

The Lancers (11-0) will next play against Freedom on Thursday at the Livermore Stampede.

Texas Rangers round out first swing through rotation, name starters for Tampa Bay series

ARLINGTON — The first swing through the Texas Rangers’ starting rotation has been ironed out.

The Rangers will pitch right-hander Dane Dunning (Monday), left-hander Andrew Heaney (Tuesday) and right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (Wednesday) in the season’s first road series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Left-hander Cody Bradford will start Saturday’s game vs. the Chicago Cubs and righty Jon Gray will pitch in the series finale on Sunday. This means that Texas will only use one southpaw starter vs. the Rays, who posted the third-highest OPS (.784) vs. left-handed pitching in the AL last season behind only the Rangers and Houston Astros.

Dunning pitched seven innings of two-run ball against the Rays last July, and Heaney allowed three runs in five innings during his lone start against Tampa Bay last June. Eovaldi — who gave up two runs in six innings pitched on opening day vs. the Cubs — went 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA in two regular season starts against the Rays last season, and pitched 6 and 2/3 innings of one-run ball in Tampa Bay to help Texas clinch the AL Wild Card series last October.
