If there’s one day trip from Montreal that you have to do, it’s visiting Ottawa, Ontario. Ottawa is the capital of Canada after all.

Montreal and Ottawa are practically twin cities they’re so close! Plus, Ottawa is small enough to explore in one day (but that doesn’t mean you can’t spend longer in the city either!).

I’ve only visited Ottawa from Montreal a few dozen times by now . So I’ll give you all the details on how to get from Montreal to Ottawa, and what to do while you’re there .

Psst! This blog post contains affiliate links in it which sends me a bit of extra money if you use them… at no extra cost to you!

Is One Day In Ottawa Enough?

Let’s be real, one day in any city is never really enough. You’ll most likely feel a bit rushed trying to do everything in Ottawa in a day.

That’s also not to say it’s isn’t doable. You’ll still get to see the important parts in the city centre.

And, if you’re just looking for an easy escape from Montreal, then Ottawa is a perfect choice!

You can always opt to stay the night in Ottawa – there is no shortage of hotels…

How To Go On A Day Trip From Montreal To Ottawa

There are a few ways to get from Montreal to Ottawa. You can drive, take the bus, train, or even go on an organized tour for the day.

I’ll go over each option so you can decide which is best for you…

Montreal To Ottawa Drive…

The drive from Montreal to Ottawa, or the Ottawa to Montreal drive is about 2 hours (if there’s no traffic of course!). And it’s not a very exciting drive either….

You’re driving by A LOT of farmland. First in Quebec, and then in Ontario!

My Amazon Road Trip Essentials

Driving will be the cheapest option if you already have a car, and are travelling with multiple people. Driving from Montreal to Ottawa is also the most flexible of all the options . You can come and go as you please, and you won’t be waiting on a scheduled itinerary.

P.S. Need to rent a car? Check out Enterprise Car Rentals in Montreal .

The one thing to watch out for on the Montreal to Ottawa drive is that there’s a stretch after you leave Quebec where there’s nothing ! I swear, there are limited gas and food options for a good 25 minutes after Rigaud, Quebec .

The last easy on-off gas station in Quebec is in Rigaud until you reach Herb’s Travel Plaza in Ontario . (So keep that in mind when you’re driving back from Ottawa as well…)

If you can, you will want to fill up with gas in Ontario – it will be cheaper than in Quebec!

Parking In Downtown Ottawa

The main complication of driving on a day trip from Montreal is parking in Ottawa . There’s no avoiding it – if you drive to Ottawa, you have to park in Ottawa!

While there is street parking in downtown Ottawa, it’s not that easy to find, and is still paid .

If you’re willing to go a bit further outside the main part of downtown Ottawa, you might get lucky with a free spot. You’ll want to head to the Golden Triangle (further down Elgin Street). Here, you might be able to find free street parking on the side streets .

Street parking offers more flexibility if you think you’ll be moving the car to visit different parts of Ottawa.

But there’s also no shortage of indoor parking garages that will give you a daily rate. Going straight for a lot will definitely save you time and you’ll be closer to the main attractions in Ottawa.

I’ve parked at the National Arts Centre Parkade , which is very centrally located. But there are also a few lots in Byward Market.

Do You Need A Car Once You’re In Ottawa?

The ultimate question is whether you need a car once you’re in Ottawa. This depends on what you’re interested in doing while you’re there.

If this is your first time visiting Ottawa and just planning on staying in the city centre, then you really don’t need  a car. Ottawa is quite small and everything is centrally located, and very much within walking distance of each other.

Related 10 Unique Things To Do In Ottawa: Do This NOT That!

Of course, there are some attractions that are a bit further outside the city centre, but there is more than enough to do in the city itself.

Public transit in Ottawa isn’t as good as Montreals.  Bus times can be unreliable , so if you do plan on taking one, make sure to plan to be early.

Alternatives To Driving To Ottawa

Ride share – ottawa to montreal drive alternative.

If you don’t have a car, the closest alternative to driving yourself to Ottawa is to take a Ride Share.

Montreal to Ottawa (and back) is a very popular drive for locals to make. A lot of Montrealers commute there everyday for work (and vice versa). So it’s not hard to find a rideshare at a time that works for you.

You can use PopARide , which works similarly to Uber. The drivers have ratings and reviews. One way is about $30, but will vary based on the driver.

Taking The Bus To Ottawa

A great alternative to driving from Montreal to Ottawa is to take the bus. This way, you can sleep on the way there and back ! It’s definitely less stressful but takes away a bit of your flexibility.

The bus is from the Orlean Express . It has a few stops in both Montreal, Gatineau, and Ottawa. The trip from downtown Montreal to downtown Ottawa is a bit over 2 hours.

You’ll want to get off at the Ottawa University stop – it’s the closest to downtown Ottawa.

Prices range from $40 to $60, depending on whether you want a flexible booking. The bus leave as early as 7:00 A.M. which means you’ll arrive in Ottawa just after 9:00 A.M..

On the way back, the bus will leave around 6:30 P.M.. See the updated schedule .

elgin-street-ottawa-ontario

Train From Montreal To Ottawa

The train from Montreal to Ottawa is going to be more expensive, and still take the same 2 hours (although there’s less of a chance of getting stuck in any traffic!). Prices vary between $40 and $180! The rate depends on availability, package, and seat choice.

If you are travelling during the week, you’ll be able to catch an early morning train as early as 6:20 A.M.!

Otherwise, they leave closer to 9:00 A.M. on the weekends, so you’ll arrive in Ottawa just after 11:00 A.M.

It’s also important to note that the Ottawa train station is outside downtown Ottawa. So you will still need to find your way to the city centre .

There’s no public transit that connects through here (I don’t understand why!), so I would suggest getting a taxi or Uber ( otherwise it’s an hour long walk !).

On the way back, trains leave at around 7:00 P.M., arriving back in Montreal at 9:00 P.M.. See the updated schedule .

Organized Tours From Montreal To Ottawa

What To Do In Ottawa On A Day Trip From Montreal

The great thing about Ottawa is that it’s very easy to see on a day trip from Montreal. If you thought Montreal was a small city, then you’ll be shocked by the small size of downtown Ottawa.

These are the top things to do with one day in Ottawa…

P.S. Is This Your Second Time Visiting Ottawa?

See And Visit Parliament (For Free!)

Parliament is kind of hard to miss. It’s HUGE, and really at the edge of Ottawa.

You’re in the nation’s capital, it’s a no brainer to at least see it! But, you can also visit for FREE!

Yup! They offer free scheduled tours of the Parliament.

Walk Through Byward Market

Byward Market is the oldest market in Ottawa. It doesn’t look like much, but it’s still a must-do on a day trip from Montreal.

There are a few blocks of vendors and restaurants. But the main part is the indoor market with more restaurants and tourist shops.

One of the classic places to eat here is at Zak’s Diner . You also don’t want to miss the Ottawa sign for the ultimate photo op!

Try A BeaverTail

Don’t worry – it’s not what you think! No animals were harmed in the making of a beaver tail!

A BeaverTail is squashed fried dough with the sweet toppings of your choice. They actually originated in Ottawa, but now they’re kind of a Canadian staple!

They have a location in Byward market as well.

The two classic BeaverTail flavours are Hazelnut spread (a.k.a. Nutella) or cinnamon and sugar.

Walk (Or Skate) Along The Rideau Canal

The Rideau Canal runs through Ottawa, and today is a beautiful place for a walk or bike ride in the summer, or a skate in the winter.

This is the longest naturally frozen skateway in the world… if it opens at all that is! Winters have been getting warmer and the skateway is opening later and later every year. In fact, 2023 is the first year it didn’t open AT ALL !

But other years, we always make it a point to go on a day trip from Montreal just to skate on the Rideau Canal!

Shop At The Rideau Center

The Rideau Center is the shopping mall in Downtown Ottawa. It doesn’t seem that exciting, but it’s very convenient if the weather outside isn’t the nicest.

You can escape the outdoors for a bit and do some shopping here. They have all the main stores and more!

Ogle At The Chateau Laurier

Just like Parliament, you can’t miss the Fairmont Chateau Laurier . This is the grandest hotel of all hotels in Ottawa. It’s like a castle!

Even if you’re not staying here, you can still walk inside or even make a reservation at one of the restaurants – like Zoe’s for afternoon tea (see my tips for afternoon tea !)

There are photographs with some information set up throughout the hotel. You can ask the concierge about where to find them.

Dine Along Sparks Street

Sparks street is the main restaurant street in Downtown Ottawa. It’s a beautiful pedestrian only, cobblestone street. The street is also lined with some incredible age old architecture.

You can come here to admire the street, or to grab a meal. There are tons of restaurants to choose from.

In the summer, most of them will also set up an outdoor terrace to take advantage of the summer heat!

Need A Place To Stay In Ottawa? Hotel Recommendations

I’ve stayed in Ottawa a few times now, each time at a different hotel, so I have a few recommendations for every budget. You can’t go wrong with any of these hotels, they’re all centrally located downtown and just a walk away from everything you’ll need.

The place to stay in Ottawa is none other than the Fairmont The Chateau Laurier – but it is also the most expensive option. You can even upgrade to have a view of the river and Parliament. See options on Fairmont.com or Booking.com .

A more reasonable place to stay (and my favourite) is the Westin Ottawa , especially if you’re visiting in the winter. Modern, updated rooms, you really can’t go wrong. But the best part about the Westin is that it’s directly connected to the Rideau Mall. So you can get all your shopping done without ever stepping foot outside! See room rates & availability on Booking.com .

For a more budget friendly option, stay at the Business Inn and Suites . Let’s just say the rooms don’t have the most modern look, but it’s very practical – giving you a large space for longer stays, breakfast included, and it’s in an even better location downtown (just off of Bank street). See room rates & availability on Booking.com .

Enjoy a day trip from Montreal to Ottawa

tour montreal ottawa

A day trip from Montreal to Ottawa is an ideal way to see and discover more of Canada. Ottawa is a beautiful city, home to Parliament Hill and the Rideau Canal. Read on to find out your options for this day trip.

You can get from Montreal to Ottawa on public transportation on Via Rail which takes just over 2 hours each way. Fares start at $59 CAD per adult each way, depending on the day and time of travel, for the special Escape TM fare. At these prices, there are limited seats, so you need to book well in advance, as the regular economy fare is over double the price.

Once you get to the Ottawa train station you will still need to catch an OTC bus into the Parliament Hill area to see the main sights of the city. This is also about a 20 minute bus ride, and again if you want to go on a guided tour you'll have to purchase that as well.

A far simpler and more relaxing option is to book a Fully Guided Day Tour to Ottawa from Montreal on an air conditioned vehicle. This convenient tour will take you right to Parliament Hill as weel as the Canadian Museum of History and Rideau Hall. It also includes a boat cruise on the Ottawa River to see the landmarks from the water.

Any of the above methods will provide nice views of the Quebec countryside as you make your way to Ottawa. You won't regret spending one day of your vacation discovering more of Canada and its history with a day trip to Ottawa.

Ottawa Tulip Festival 1 Day Tour (4 Visits Value $50 Included)

Tulip Festival Parc, History Museum, War Museum, Parliament Hill...

tour montreal ottawa

Depart from Montreal at 7:00 am to the fourth-largest city in Canada: Ottawa. Ottawa is not just the capital of the Canadian government but it is also one of the most diverse cities in the world. This vibrant city offers everything from global sporting events and shopping adventures to museum and family activities. Ottawa has it all. The city is situated on the Ottawa River about 200 km (125 miles) west of Montreal.  No visit to Ottawa is complete without a visit to  Parliament Hill , the seat of Canada's national government, and the setting for year-round celebrations and ceremonies. The Parliament Buildings sit at the top of the Hill, the gorgeous Gothic-style structures overlooking the Ottawa River. The buildings are home to, among other things, the House of Commons, the Library of Parliament, the Hall of Honor, the Senate, and the impressive Peace Tower. Then, spend a couple of hours exploring the Canadian  Museum of History  (formerly the Canadian Museum of Civilization) - gorgeous architecture and world-renowned exhibitions convene to create Canada’s most-visited museum. It provides detailed insight into 20,000 years of human history.   We also have a chance to visit the  War Museum , Canada's national museum of military history. Canada's rich military history is showcased through personal stories, artwork, photographs, and interactive presentations that expand our knowledge of the conflicts that shaped Canada, Canadians, and the world, as well as the role Canadians, played in them. Last but not least, the Canadian Tulip Festival started in 1952, and it is continually held in Ottawa the capital of Canada. Thousands of Tulip flowers are spread everywhere over the city during the festival that holds various kinds of cultural events. The festival has a historic background: During WWII the royal Dutch family escaped from Holland and found a shelter in Ottawa. When the queen, Juliana, returned to Holland in 1945, she decided to thank the Canadian people for hosting the royal family and sent Ottawa 100,000 Tulip tubers. We will leave Ottawa around 5:30 PM and will arrive in Montreal around 8:00 pm.

See new sights on a road trip from Ottawa to Montréal

Samuel De Champlain Bridge

Robyn Fadden

This article was updated on April 9, 2024.

Depending on your idea of fun, a road trip from Ottawa to Montréal can be quick and easy, short and sweet, or stretched out and scenic. After all, even though the destination is a stellar one (you’re likely already dreaming about walking in Mount Royal Park with fresh bagels in hand), the stops along the way can make it all the more memorable. Here are a few ways to make your drive an adventure from start to finish.

Plan a hassle-free road trip

As in most major cities, the summer season is when work is planned to improve the road network. To avoid unnecessary delays, plan ahead by checking the Mobility Montréal website .

Day trip ambling

Turn your drive to Montréal into a day trip by setting out early. Pack a picnic breakfast or pick something up on your way to the southern end of Gatineau Park – the 360 square kilometres park and some of its hiking routes stretch down to Hull on the Québec side of the Ottawa River. Take the forest-lined Gatineau Parkway to the welcome area near Pioneers Trail and find your perfect breakfast spot among the trees and fresh air.

Relaxed and ready for the road, take the Parkway over to the 148 for a quick way to Highway 50 (Autoroute de l’Outaouais) and across the Gatineau River. Edging residential areas outside the city, the 50 takes you through farmland and winds around the town of Buckingham, Québec on the Du Lièvre River. That’s also where you can opt for the real scenic route.

Parc national de Plaisance, SÉPAQ

Riverside roaming

A two-lane highway, sometimes called “the old highway,” the 148 roams through small towns such as Thurso, Papineauville and Plaisance (turn south for the marsh and waterways of Parc national de Plaisance and north to see the Patrimoine et Chutes de Plaisance waterfalls). The 148 roams along with views of the Ottawa River and sloping farmland all the way to just north of Hawkesbury (about 10 km inside Ontario), where it goes inland a bit, letting the 344 become the riverside route.

Meanwhile, on the Ontario side of the river, Highway 174 is another scenic option, taking you through riverside enclaves and farmland as it turns into Highway 17. Stop for birdwatching and a stroll at Beckett Creek Bird Sanctuary east of Cumberland. Small and quiet, the Papanack Zoo in Wendover provides an educational introduction to wild animals. Continue on for poutine at Landriault Snack Bar or another of the many “casse-croûtes” in the Franco-Ontario town of Alfred , which claims itself the french fry capital of Canada!

Montebello moments

Whether you’ve taken the 148 or the 50 from Gatineau, you’ll want to take a break in Montebello. Here’s where you can stop to check out the unique upscale-rustic facade of the Fairmont Le Château Montebello resort hotel or step back in Québec history at the Manoir Papineau National Historic Site . Get your gourmet chocolate fix at artisanal chocolate factory Chocomotive located in the historic Montebello station, try Fromagerie Montebello ’s cheeses, and pick up a six-pack at microbrewery Les Brasseurs de Montebello .

Another option near Montebello, especially if you make your kids’ day: take a turn north to the 323 up to Parc Oméga , a 12km safari that is home to wolves, caribou, bison and other animals, and also features a suspension bridge and short hikes in the woods, a restaurant and café, and seasonal sugar shack.

Three options towards Montréal

Ontario headway: Drive east on the 148, 50 or 17 to Hawkesbury, Ontario to get back to the Trans-Canada on the Ontario side and motor on to Montréal. Though, if you’re in the mood for a break, have lunch by the river in Hawkesbury or drive south of town to find Beau’s microbrewery in Vankleek Hill, where you’ll also find the Vankleek Hill Vineyard, the Higginson Tower old mill site and homemade pickles at Pickle Patch Farm . To see a unique piece of history, drive over to L’Orignal to see the L’Orignal Jail .

Scenic QC drive: Head to Grenville, Québec to take the slow and scenic riverside drive on the 344 on the Québec side. That will take you all the way to Oka , a beautiful Québec national park with a long sandy beach on the Ottawa River (check the park’s site for current entry fees). Nearby is winery Vignoble d’Oka . Drive on towards Montréal on the 344 or go on a water adventure on the seasonal Oka-Hudson ferry .

The northern route: Take the 50 all the way to the foothills of the Laurentians in Québec, just south of the town of Saint-Jérome, then take highway 15 through Laval down to Montréal (families might want to stop at Laval’s Cosmodome space adventure centre). Or opt to take the mountain route when leaving Montréal, giving yourself more time to stop in further afield small towns like Val-David and Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts on your way to  Mont-Tremblant , Mont-Laurier and south to Maniwaki. On your way home to Ottawa, stop for dinner or to see the covered bridge in Wakefield .

Unwind in the West Island

If you’re coming into Montréal on the Trans-Canada, you’ll drive through Rigaud, where you can make a rest stop at Parc Chartier-De Lotbinière, a relaxing green space with a water park for kids, or take a walk in the woods of Parc Municipal De Rigaud right next door. Spice things up with locally made Peppermaster Hot Sauces or pick up a few bottles from Le Castor Brewing organic microbrewery. Heading east from there, stop at a beach or a farmers market in quaint Hudson, Québec .

Ecomuseum Zoo

Onwards, you’ll drive through the suburb of Vaudreuil-Dorion, across the Pont d’Ile Aux Tourtes bridge and onto the island of Montréal! Shortly after you cross the bridge, you can exit for the Ecomuseum Zoo and McGill’s Morgan Arboretum . Take the Trans-Canada through the West Island (stop at Ikea if you’re feeling a sudden need for new decor) and take the 15 (Decarie Expressway) towards Westmount and downtown if you’re in a rush. Or exit further along the 40 (what locals call the Trans-Canada) at the Boul. St. Laurent exit so you can stop at the Jean-Talon Market .

Canal Lachine

For an alternate route through the West Island, dip down to quaint Saint-Anne-de-Bellevue after you cross the bridge. There you’ll find a riverside boardwalk and marina, parks, restaurants and ice cream shops, and boutiques. Drive along Rue Lakeshore towards Beaconsfield to see the Saint-Lawrence River. Head back up to the 40 or take the 20 towards historic Lachine (home to the Musée de Lachine ) and into the city. Now it’s really time to explore the sights and streets of Montréal!

Where to park in Montréal

If you’re travelling by car, check out the Agence de mobilité durable’s website to see where parking is available near your destination. You can also download the P$ Mobile Service app to pay or top up your parking meter, wherever you are.

Ottawa redblacks at montreal alouettes odds, picks and predictions, share this article.

tour montreal ottawa

The Ottawa RedBlacks (1-0) and the Montreal Alouettes (2-0) meet Thursday for a Week 3 battle at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (TSN/CFL+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s  lines around the RedBlacks vs. Alouettes odds , and make our expert CFL picks and predictions .

The RedBlacks were on a bye in Week 1, so they were the last CFL team to play their regular season opener. It was worth the wait, as Ottawa topped Winnipeg 23-19 as a 7-point underdog in Canada’s capital city in Week 2 as the Under (47.5) cashed.

The defending champion Alouettes play their home opener, raising a banner at Molson Stadium. The Als have picked up right where they left off, topping Winnipeg 27-12 in Week 1 as a 7.5-point underdog, while nipping Edmonton 23-20 in Week 2 as a 4-point favorite. The Under cashed in both of those road wins.

Montreal won all 4 meetings last season, while covering 3 of those games. In each of the covers by the Alouettes, they allowed 10.0 PPG, cashing the Under in each outing. In the lone cover by the Red Blacks, Montreal won 25-24 on Aug. 19, 2023, as the Over (47) connected.

RedBlacks at Alouettes odds

Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook ; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:08 a.m. ET.

  • Moneyline (ML) : RedBlacks +220 (bet $100 to win $220) | Alouettes -275 (bet $275 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS) : RedBlacks +6.5 (-110) | Alouettes -6.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under (O/U) : 47.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

RedBlacks at Alouettes key injuries

  • DL DeShawn Stevens (calf) out
  • No major injuries

RedBlacks at Alouettes picks and predictions

Alouettes 25, RedBlacks 16

The Alouettes (-275) will cost you nearly 3 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not nearly enough reward. Even as part of a multi-team parlay, including Montreal is just too risky.

And while the RedBlacks (+220) looked sharp in their initial outing in Week 2, they’ve dropped 5 straight against the defending champs, and Ottawa cannot be trusted.

Against the spread

The ALOUETTES -6.5 (-110) are worth a look, especially if this line stays under a flat 7.

The RedBlacks +6.5 (-110) surprised last week in Winnipeg, but Montreal has also topped the Blue Bombers already this season. So, the jury is still out on Ottawa. The Als have been the kryptonite to the RedBlacks, and Ottawa is just 1-3 ATS in the past 4 meetings since June 10, 2023.

UNDER 47.5 (-110) is a strong play in this home opener for the defending champs.

The Under cashed in 3 of the 4 regular-season meetings in 2023, and Ottawa cashed low in its initial game of the 2024 campaign, while Montreal has hit the Under in each of its 2 games to date.

Go low, and feel confidently in doing so.

Ottawa invests $800K towards TOHU and Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque

tour montreal ottawa

By Cole Fortner

Posted June 26, 2024 1:12 pm.

Last Updated June 26, 2024 1:14 pm.

Montreal’s performing arts will be getting a boost from Ottawa.

Wednesday, Marc Miller the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced the federal government would be investing $31 million into the Canada Arts Presentation Fund.

From that, TOHU, a performing arts theater in Montreal will be getting $800,000 to help with its programs – including the Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque.

“By supporting TOHU and our local artists, we are making a significant investment in our cultural industries, which are critical drivers of our economy. The arts and culture sector not only enriches our lives, but it also creates jobs, boosts tourism and supports local businesses. It is a vibrant and dynamic part of our society that deserves our unwavering support,” said Miller in a statement.

Patricia Lattanzio, the MP for Saint-Léonard—Saint-Michel adding, “TOHU is an organization that plays a central role in Saint-Léonard–Saint-Michel. When our government supports projects like the Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque, it not only helps create jobs and support our tourism industry, but it also supports our entire community.”

The Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque is an 11-day festival where venues, streets, parks and sidewalks will feature high-flying performers from Montreal and around the world.

“We appreciate that the Government of Canada recognizes the positive impact of culture on its citizens. This important support will enable us to meet part of the significant increase in broadcasting costs, while allowing Montréal to shine as the international capital of circus arts,” said Stéphane Lavoie, General and Programming Director of TOHU.

RCMP Musical Ride kicks off in Ottawa Thursday

It's a Canadian symbol and tradition, the world-famous RCMP Musical Ride is ready for another summer of touring.

Superintendent Kevin Fahey, Musical Ride and Heritage Branch Officer in Charge, said, "To be part of the performance is quite an honor. We practice all year long. We start practicing in the month of January, and it all culminates all the way through to the tour, the annual tour. And we take the program on the road and travel and see Canadians. And, so it's quite an honor not only to represent the RCMP, but to represent Canada."

Ottawa audiences are fortunate, the RCMP Musical Ride Centre is located in the capital, and that means free Musical Ride performances. Canadian Sunset Ceremonies are scheduled from June 27 to June 30, every night at 7 p.m.

This year's Musical Ride will be different than in years past, with brand new choreography.

Corporal Amber Gambling, Musical Ride Instructor and Trainer, said, "There's a lot of new moves that we've never done before, so we had to learn those and the horses had to learn those."

Not only do the riders love performing in the show, the horses love it too.

Gambling says, "There is one horse, Pots, that I was riding this year and he actually dances to the music. One of the songs come on, the crowd starts clapping, and he will lift his feet to the song. It's really something special."

For the officers involved in the Musical Ride, this is their full-time job while they are stationed here.

Inspector Kelly Godard, Musical Ride Officer in Charge, says, "Clean the stalls, muck the stalls, get their horses prepared. So the grooming, get their gear ready, they would turn out, they would go and ride for an hour and a half. They would return. They would have to clean their tack, clean their horses, feed the horses, clean up the barn. And then they'd do it all again in the afternoon. So this is all in preparation for when we tour in the summer time."

tour montreal ottawa

While admission is free, those attending Saturday's performance are asked to drop off a food donation.

"Usually we'll have an opportunity as well to support the local community. And this year, at our sunset ceremonies, it'll be for the Ottawa Food Bank," said Fahey.

The RCMP Musical Ride will tour this summer in Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba.

"We have some jumping, some dog relays, we'll have the pipes and drums band," says Fahey, "We'll have some outside riders who'll be doing some drills as well, and then concluding with the music ride. So we hope you come and see us."
