• Maximum waist size to fit the harness: 117 cm (46 in).
• Maximum leg loop size to fit the harness: 67 cm (26 in).
• This is a high-intensity activity and is not suitable for individuals with health issues such as back, neck, bone, or muscle problems, surgeries within the past year, or heart conditions.
• The minimum age required to participate in this tour is 5 years old, provided that the harness and other equipment can be properly adjusted.
• Children under 10 years old may travel “alone on the ziplines” if the guide deems it appropriate. This decision will depend on the child’s weight and specific weather conditions at the time. Otherwise, it will be at the guide’s discretion to determine who will accompany the child on the cable.
• Adolescents aged 14 to 17 can take the tour without the need for adult supervision, as long as a responsible adult signs the waiver before the activity.
• Safety areas are provided on the platforms, and it is the responsibility of both the responsible adult and the guides to ensure that children remain within these designated areas.
• The guide reserves the right to suspend the activity for children who appear visibly nervous and fearful.
• Children’s rates apply for ages 5 to 12.
• Check-in should be done 15 minutes before the scheduled tour start time.
• Wear comfortable and light clothes, better if they are breathable.
• Bring a jacket or raincoat, just in case a friendly rain comes by.
• Wear hiking or tennis shoes, preferably something comfortable and enclosed.
• Sunscreen is always recommended in this beautiful tropical country.
• Insect repellent will be a good idea to have, specially (as locals will describe it) if you have ‘sweet’ skin.
• Transportation is not included but available for an extra fee from most centrally located La Fortuna Hotels (no locations outside the La Fortuna area).

Zip over the Rainforest Canopy on Sky Trek

Your zip line experience is something you will not likely to forget very soon, hanging almost 200 meter (600 feet) above the ground and going in between treetops and canyons. Your guides will supply you with suitable equipment: a helmet, gloves and a harness. The guides will explain some safety features and then you are ready to go!

Children under the age of 8 are not allowed on Sky Trek.

Sky Trek is always in combination with the Sky Tram (as you need to arrive at the top), next to this is Sky Trek available in different combinations, look at the bottom of the page under booking options and times for more information.

The Arenal Sky Aerial Tram & Trek Zipline tour starts with the Sky Aerial Tram, a high-tech cable-car that brings you to the highest point of the Arenal Reserve. With rainforest canopy and the Arenal volcano as your backdrop, you’ll have time for photos before receiving a safety briefing. This part of the tour is the Sky Trek: a zipline adventure that allows you to observe the rainforest while zooming past trees. Fly through lush canopy across 8 cross-sectional cables that, together, have a total length of 4.5 miles and with a maximum height of 660 feet.

Costa Rica Sky Adventure starts with a tour in the Sky Tram to reach the top of the Arenal reserve, then begins a tour of adventure full of adrenaline above the treetops, which consists on a system of zip lines, that allows you to observe the rainforest and its landscape from a different perspective, safely in an innovative and different system.

CR Sky Adventure in Arenal:   This tour combines two exciting activities in Arenal: Sky Tram ride or cable way,  and Sky Trek or zip-lining. It's a fun and fascinating way to experience the rain forest.

The Sky Tram    gondolas rise smoothly through the Rain Forest, offering up endless views during their mountainous ascent. 

This is the first part of this tour and is perfect for people who want to take a different approach on admiring nature, without much physical effort but still be on spot where natures exhibits all its magic. 

Arenal Sky Tram travels up the mountains to arrive to a wide observation platform on the highest point of the reserve, the hand of Arenal viewpoint,  where you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Arenal Volcano, Lake, and the surrounding forests.

After the Tram continue with the second part, the Sky Trek.

Sky Trek - Arenal

At Sky Trek in Arenal, you ride the tram up the mountain, and then get back to the base riding our thrilling ziplines, making it a perfect adventure activity with no walking segments – get off and jump on to the next cable. You’ll ride 7 cables that go up to 200m (656ft) in height and 750m (2460ft) in length where you will be astounded by its impressive heights, speeds that go up to 70km/h (43.5mph), views, and because you will be able to admire the surrounding mountains like in no other place.

 Sky Trek is a thrilling zip line circuit that’s located in the magical forests of Arenal.  The tour includes 7 cross-sectional cables that together have a total length of 1.7 miles with distances from 100 to 2460 feet, and with a maximum height of 660 feet, which exceed the treetops providing a panoramic view of the Arenal volcano and lake.

Your tour will start riding an open-air gondola from the ground to the highest point of the mountain where you’ll be dropped off at an observation area to admire fantastic views of the Arenal Volcano, Lake, and the surrounding forests. From this area, you will start riding down a unique zipline circuit that stretches across canyons, going from one mountain to another, and in between treetops. It truly is an exhilarating adventure of zip lining down the mountains.

- You can choose only Sky Tram up and down.

-For security children less than 5  years old cannot take the sky Trek tour.

- Kids must be at least 5 years old and be able to fit properly on the provided equipment (harness, helmet, etc).

-Sky Trek is a complementary tour of Sky Tram it can’t be sold separately.

-NO walking distances, get off and jump on to the next cable. 

- Restrictions:

                      Maximum weight: 136kg (300lb).                       Maximum Waist: 117cm (46in).                       Maximum Leg Loops: 67cm (26in).

-People over 100 kilograms weight (217 pounds) must be evaluated by our technical staff (according to his/her height and physical condition) our staff will determine if they can take the tour).

The Sky Tram and Trek Canopy Zipline tour is among the most popular in the Arenal Volcano area. Imagine taking a gondola style tram to the top of the mountain and then ziplining down it!

After being picked up from your La Fortuna hotel you will take a scenic drive around Lake Arenal (from most hotels) en route to the Sky Adventures Park. When you arrive you will be sized up and fitted with the latest and safest safety equipment.

The adventure begins with the tram ride up the mountain as you pass through the rainforest canopy. With a little luck you may be able to spot wildlife, but will undoubtedly enjoy spectacular views. In total the tram goes 4,100 feet or 1,250 meters up the mountain. When you arrive at the top you will be provided a brief safety and instructional course for the zipline.

The Sky Trek Canopy Zipline is one of the most popular ziplines in the world and for good reason! As you soar from platform to platform you will zip over canyons and treetops making your way down the mountain.  There are seven ziplines of varying lengths and sizes. The highest is 656 feet high and the longest is 2,493 feet long!

This is a high speed, adventurous tour. We only recommend for those that do not fear heights.

After the high flying adventure you will be returned to your Arenal area hotel. Including round trip transportation, this tour is expected to last around 4 hours though this is subject to change. This fun filled half day tour includes transportation and guide.

Please note that from June 1st to June 14th, 2024, the Sky Tram segment of the tour will be temporarily unavailable due to scheduled annual maintenance procedures. Unlike some other canopy ziplining tours in Costa Rica, which cut through the middle of rainforest and/or cloud forest ecosystems,  Sky Adventures ‘s  Sky Trek canopy ziplining tour  takes place above the forest canopy.  More specifically, the tour zigzags back and forth over the forest and offers a bird’s eye view of treetops, clouds, and an endless sky.

Though several canopy ziplining tours are offered in the La Fortuna/Arenal region,  the  Sky Trek canopy ziplining tour  is the only canopy ziplining tour that utilizes a handlebar braking system . Most other canopy tour operators in the country use the traditional hand-braking system during their ziplining tours. Though both braking methods are regarded as safe, the handlebar braking system merely requires you to jostle a set of metal handlebars back and forth to slow your speed. In contrast, the hand-braking system requires you to place gentle pressure on the zipline using a thick leather glove to slow your speed.

In addition,  the  Sky Trek canopy ziplining tour  is the only canopy ziplining tour that automatically includes a complimentary aerial tram ride.  While the Sky Trek tours run at  Sky Adventures ‘s Monteverde park and  Sky Adventures ‘s Arenal park both offer the free tram ride, no other canopy ziplining tours in Costa Rica provide this complimentary experience.

Note that although the  Sky Adventures Monteverde Park  offers a thrilling free fall experience (called the  Vertigo Drop ) with their  Sky Trek canopy ziplining tour , the  Sky Adventures Arenal Park  does not.  If you wish to experience the  Vertigo Drop , you must choose to participate in the Sky Trek canopy ziplining tour at  Sky Adventures ‘s park in Monteverde, not Arenal.

The  Sky Trek canopy ziplining tour  experience begins with the collection of safety equipment  at  Sky Adventures ‘s operations center. To confirm, the use of all necessary ziplining equipment is included in the cost of  Sky Adventures ‘s tour, so no equipment rental fees apply.

Following an instructional briefing led by your tour guide, you’ll begin the tour by riding the Sky Tram aerial tram for roughly 20 minutes to a platform at the top of the rainforest. Just beyond the platform awaits the canopy ziplining tour’s first zipline cable, which is a practice cable.  The practice cable allows you to sample ziplining to make sure you feel comfortable participating in the activity . If you don’t feel comfortable participating in the activity, you can opt out of doing the tour. Do so here, if that’s your choice, because there’s no turning back once you proceed beyond this point.

The Sky Trek tour in Arenal has 7 cables in total, including the practice cable.  Here’s how the various cables compare with one another according to the length of the cable, the height of the cable, the average speed you’ll travel when you cross the cable, and the average number of seconds it takes to cross the cable:

Sky Trek canopy ziplining tour cable details for the Sky Adventures Arenal Park : Cable #1 (practice cable): 32 meters long Cable #2: 465 meters long / 200 meters high / 70 kms per hour / 30 seconds Cable #3: 450 meters long / 162 meters high / 69 kms per hour / 29 seconds Cable #4: 410 meters long / 78 meters high / 65 kms per hour / 29 seconds Cable #5: 610 meters long / 80 meters high / 80 kms per hour / 42 seconds Cable #6: 750 meters long / 84 meters high / 70 kms per hour / 45 seconds Cable #7: 25 meters long / 38 meters high / 32 kms per hour / 10 seconds Total ziplining distance: 2,742 meters

It is important to note that  it is not possible to participate in the  Sky Trek canopy ziplining tour  without riding the Sky Tram . The Sky Tram ride is a required component of the  Sky Trek canopy ziplining tour  because it delivers you to the tour’s first cable.

Though the duration of the Sky Trek tour varies from day to day due to group size, weather conditions, and other factors, on average, the actual ziplining portion of the tour  takes roughly 1 hour to complete . The entire tour experience, including the collection of equipment, the instructional briefing, the one-way Sky Tram ride, and the ziplining portion of the tour  takes roughly 2 hours to complete . This estimate excludes extra time needed to travel between the  Sky Adventures Arenal Park  and downtown La Fortuna (an approximate half-hour drive) and/or area hotels before the tour begins and after the tour wraps up. It also excludes the 15 minutes that  Sky Adventures  asks you to arrive at their operations center in advance before participating in any of their tours.

For years,  Sky Adventures  maintained that their minimum age limit for participation in the  Sky Trek canopy ziplining tour  was 12 years old. Then they swapped their minimum age limit to a minimum height limit (1.2 meters tall). In 2017,  Sky Adventures  announced that children as young as 5 years old would be allowed to participate because they obtained equipment that was suitable for children weighing 10-40 kilograms.  5 years old remains the current minimum age limit for Sky Trek canopy ziplining tour participants.

The current maximum weight limit for participation in the Sky Trek canopy ziplining tour is 300 lbs.  Individuals who exceed the maximum weight limit will be evaluated by  Sky Adventures ‘s technical staff according to their height and physical condition to determine eligibility for tour participation.

Sky Trek Arenal

Sky Trek Arenal features a top-notch technology that allows the zip lines to go really fast, so you can reach speeds of up to 80 km / h (50 mi / h), as well as a handlebar brake, so you don’t have to worry about braking with your hand risking a potential injury.

On this tour, you will first go on a tram ride to reach the top of Arenal’s rainforest, getting a vast platform with multiple viewpoints, including the famous Arenal’s Hand Lookout.

Then you will zip back down through the canopy of the trees through a circuit of 7 zip lines between 100 meters (300 feet) and 750 meters (2,460 feet) long each, for a fantastic adventure that will last approximately 2.5 hours.

We did the zip lining and I was able to see some of the birds we learned about from a closer distance. This was my first time zip lining, I screamed the entire team, but had SO MUCH FUN. Nothing compares to the view you’ll have while up there.

We did the Sky Trek (which includes sky tram and ziplines). It was fantastic! The views were amazing, all the guides were very friendly and knowledgeable and we went on a Monday morning so there weren't a lot of other visitors there.

While staying in the Arenal we decided to go on the Sky Trek. We are glad we did. We are in our 80's and were concerned about the safety and our ability to keep up with the others in the group, all of whom were 40 years younger.

Q: Do I need to have prior experience to Zip-line?

A: No, your guides will give you an orientation and lead you through each zip-line to make sure you have a safe & great experience.

Q: Do I need to be in good shape for this activity?

A: You will have to be physically fit enough to hike approximately 1 1/2miles downhill between zip-line platforms.

Q: Can I bring my own equipment?

A: No! All equipment is provided, except closed toed shoes, which will be required.

Q: How many people can go together on a trip?

A: Each tour is limited to 8 people. (if group is larger arrange in advance w/ Nick Bessaw)

Q: If I have a season pass do I get a discount?

A: No, the price is $119 seven days a week and 20% off if you book in a group of 6 or more.

Q: What should I bring along for the trip?

A: Tamarack provides a helmet, top of the line harness and trolley system. You provide sturdy hiking shoes and a thirst for adventure. Small light backpacks are fine. You will be on the mountain and it can be subject to quick weather changes. Check the weather forecast before you go, dress and prepare accordingly. You may also want to bring extra water.

Q: Is tipping allowed or expected?

A: It is customary to tip your guides 10%, if they did a good job and you had a great time. Tips are appreciated.

Q: How long does the tour take?

A: For a group of 8 guests, the tour should take approximately 3 to 4 hours. For a group of 2 guests, the tour should take approximately 2 hours.
