The Rolling Stones Announce ‘Hackney Diamonds’ North American Stadium Tour

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

The Rolling Stones are hitting stadiums across North America in 2024 to celebrate the release of their new album, Hackney Diamonds . The 16-city tour (which includes a headlining slot at Jazz Fest in New Orleans) kicks off April 28 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, and wraps up July 17 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Ticket sales begin December 1 at 10:00 am.

Hackney Diamonds is the first Rolling Stones album of new material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang . Produced by Andrew Watt and featuring guest appearances by Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Lady Gaga, the album was met with near-universal acclaim. “A collection of bangers (old-school division) that nobody in their right mind had a right to expect in 2023,” Rolling Stone ’s David Browne wrote, “Hackney Diamonds isn’t just another new Stones album, but a vibrant and cohesive record — the first Stones album in ages you’ll want to crank more than once before filing away.”

3 warnings in effect for 3 counties in the area

Lab-grown diamonds come with sparkling price tags, but many have cloudy sustainability claims.

PHILADELPHIA – The muted sounds of hammering and sanding drift down to the first floor of Bario Neal, a jewelry store in Philadelphia, where rustic artwork that mimics nature hangs on warmly-lit walls.

Waiting for one of those rings is Haley Farlow, a 28-year-old second grade teacher who has been designing her three-stone engagement ring with her boyfriend. They care about price and also don't want jewelry that takes a toll on the Earth, or exploits people in mining. So they're planning on buying diamonds grown in a laboratory.

“Most of my friends all have lab-grown. And I think it just fits our lifestyle and, you know, the economy and what we’re living through,” said Farlow.

In the U.S., lab-grown diamond sales jumped 16% in 2023 from 2022, according to Edahn Golan, an industry analyst. They cost a fraction of the stones formed naturally underground.

Social media posts show millennials and Generation Zs proudly explaining the purchase of their lab-grown diamonds for sustainability and ethical reasons. But how sustainable they are is questionable, since making a diamond requires an enormous amount of energy and many major manufacturers are not transparent about their operations.

Farlow said the choice of lab-grown makes her ring “more special and fulfilling” because the materials are sourced from reputable companies. All of the lab diamonds at Bario Neal are either made with renewable energy or have the emissions that go into making them countered with carbon credits, which pay for activities like planting trees, which capture carbon.

But that's not the norm for lab-grown diamonds.

Many companies are based in India, where about 75% of electricity comes from burning coal. They use words like “sustainable” and “environmentally-friendly” on their websites, but don't post their environmental impact reports and aren’t certified by third parties. Cupid Diamonds, for example, says on its website that it produces diamonds in “an environmentally friendly manner,” but did not respond to questions about what makes its diamonds sustainable. Solar energy is rapidly expanding in India and there are some companies, such as Greenlab Diamonds, that utilize renewables in their manufacturing processes.

China is the other major diamond manufacturing country. Henan Huanghe Whirlwind, Zhuhai Zhong Na Diamond, HeNan LiLiang Diamond, Starsgem Co. and Ningbo Crysdiam are among the largest producers. None returned requests for comment nor post details about where it gets its electricity. More than half of China's electricity came from coal in 2023.

In the United States, one company, VRAI, whose parent company is Diamond Foundry, operates what it says is a zero-emissions foundry in Wenatchee, Washington, running on hydropower from the Columbia River. Martin Roscheisen, CEO and founder of Diamond Foundry, said via email the power VRAI uses to grow a diamond is "about one tenth of the energy required for mining.”

But Paul Zimnisky, a diamond industry expert, said companies that are transparent about their supply chain and use renewable energy like this “represent a very small portion of production.”

“It seems like there are a lot of companies that are riding on this coattail that it’s an environmentally-friendly product when they aren’t really doing anything that’s environmentally friendly,” said Zimnisky.

Lab diamonds are often made over several weeks, subjecting carbon to high pressure and high temperature that mimic natural conditions that form diamonds beneath the Earth’s surface.

The technology has been around since the 1950’s, but the diamonds produced were mostly used in industries like stone cutting, mining and dentistry tools.

Over time the laboratories, or foundries, have gotten better at growing stones with minimal flaws. Production costs have dropped as technology improves.

That means diamond growers can manufacture as many stones as they want and choose their size and quality, which is causing prices to fall rapidly. Natural diamonds take billions of years to form and are difficult to find, making their price more stable.

Diamonds, whether lab-grown or natural, are chemically identical and entirely made out of carbon. But experts can distinguish between the two, using lasers to pinpoint telltale signs in atomic structure. The Gemological Institute of America grades millions of diamonds annually.

With lower prices for lab-grown and young people increasingly preferring them, the new diamonds have cut into the market share for natural stones. Globally, lab-grown diamonds are now 5-6% of the market and the traditional industry is not taking it sitting down. The marketing battle is on.

The mined diamond industry and some analysts warn lab-grown diamonds won't hold value over time.

“Five to ten years into the future, I think there’s going to be very few customers that are willing to spend thousands of dollars for a lab diamond. I think almost all of it’s going to sell in the $100 price point or even below,” said Zimnisky. He predicts that natural diamonds will continue to sell in the thousands and tens of thousands of dollars for engagement rings.

Some cultures view engagement rings as investments and choose natural diamonds for their value over the long term. That’s particularly true in China and India, Zimnisky said. It's also still true in more rural areas of the United States, while lab-grown diamonds have taken off more in the cities.

Paying thousands of dollars for something that drops most of its value in just a few years can leave the buyer feeling cheated, which Golan said is an element that is currently working against the lab-grown sector.

“When you buy a natural diamond, there’s a story that it is three billion years in the making by Mother Earth. This wondrous creation of nature … you cannot tell that story with a lab-grown,” said Golan. “You very quickly make the connection between forever and the longevity of the love.”

“If we really want to get technical here, the greenest diamond is a repurposed or recycled diamond because that uses no energy,” Zimnisky said.

Page Neal said she co-founded Bario Neal in 2008 to “create jewelry of lasting value that would have a positive impact on people and the planet.” All of the materials in her jewelry can be traced throughout their supply chain. The store offers both lab-grown and natural diamonds.

“Jewelry is a powerful symbol ... it’s a keeper of memories,” she said. “But when we’re using materials that have caused harm to other people and the environment to create a symbol of love and commitment or identity, to me it feels at odds. We want to only work with materials that we feel like our clients would be proud to own."

The Rolling Stones Announce 2024 Hackney Diamonds Tour

By Logan DeLoye

November 21, 2023

diamonds tour

The news we've all been waiting for has finally been confirmed.

The Rolling Stones will hit the road next year as part of the 2024 Hackney Diamonds Tour, extending their unrivaled legacy into its 62nd year. What started as a small performance at a club off Oxford Street in London in 1962 has evolved into six decades' worth of timeless tracks and unmatched stage presence forever imprinted on music history.

According to a press release, the rock legends are set to kick off the North American leg of their tour in April at NRG Stadium in Houston, with dates across the U.S. and Canada scheduled through July. Seamlessly uniting multiple generations of music lovers, tour attendees can expect to hear classics like "Gimme Shelter" and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," in addition to "Angry," "Rolling Stone Blues," and other singles featured on the band's latest album, Hackney Diamonds , released in October 2023.

The "Start Me Up" standouts will take the stage in Las Vegas, Glendale, East Rutherford, Seattle, Foxboro, Orlando, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Denver, Chicago, Vancouver, and Los Angeles, wrapping up in Santa Clara on July 17th. They will also travel to New Orleans on May 2nd for a special performance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

Tickets for the 2024 Hackney Diamonds Tour go on sale on December 1st at 10:00 a.m. local time.

The last few years have been filled with highs and lows for the world-renowned group with the tragic passing of longtime bandmate Charlie Watts in 2021, the conclusion of a European tour in 2022, and the release of Hackney Diamonds , their first album of original material since 2005's A Bigger Bang, in 2023. Their latest project was such a hit that album single "Angry" was recently nominated for a Grammy.

After over half a century on the road, Mick Jagger, 80, Keith Richards, 79, and Ronnie Wood , 76, have no plans to retire.

In a recent interview , Richards revealed that, despite his age, he hasn't even thought about slowing down because he "loves it" and plans to "see the Rolling Stones through." In fact, according to Jagger, The Rolling Stones could tour until the end of time!

The frontman spoke with The Wall Street Journal in September 2023 regarding the possibility of a future post-humous hologram tour similar to that of ABBA's Voyage.

“You can have a posthumous business now, can’t you? You can have a posthumous tour. The technology has really moved on since the ABBA thing." While the icon neither confirmed nor denied a post-humous hologram tour, it is certainly not out of the question for The Rolling Stones.

Presale tickets for the upcoming tour can be accessed through the band's website .

To pair with the exciting announcement, iHeartRadio is giving four Rolling Stones super fans the opportunity of a lifetime. Per the new contest , one winner and three friends will receive orchestra seat tickets to a 2024 Hackney Diamonds Tour date with backstage passes to attend the band's private sound check. And that's not all! The winners will be granted four autographed set list prints to commemorate the experience.

It's Super Bowl Sunday, and Taylor Swift is "Ready for It."

After playing four consecutive nights on her Eras Tour in Tokyo , Swift has arrived in Las Vegas for the 2024 Super Bowl . The 14-time Grammy winner is back in the stands to cheer on her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, as they battle the San Francisco 49ers for a championship ring.

Once again, the singer is in good company, sharing a suite with friends like Ice Spice and Blake Lively . Swift's also watching with her parents, Andrea and Scott Swift , and Kelce's loved ones, too. His brother Jason , sister-in-law Kylie and parents, Ed and Donna Kelce , are all spending game day with the "Cruel Summer" singer.

The first quarter was packed with action, and Swift's squad kept up with every play. The girls — including Swift's friend Ashley Avignone (second from left) — hardly hid their reactions and excitement.

Head in the Game

At one point, Swift lifted up pal Blake Lively with a hug.

Lana Del Rey  joined Swift's game day entourage as well, and the two warmly greeted each other in the stands.

Sideline Talk

Del Rey featured on a song from Swift's 2022 album Midnights , which took home the coveted Grammy award for album of the year one week prior.

Connecting in the Crowd

Paul McCartney met up with his friend Taylor Swift in her suite and got acquainted with Kelce's dad, Ed .

Play by Play

Super Bowl LVIII marked Ice Spice 's first time at a football game with Swift.

Ahead of kickoff, Swift hung out in a box with Ice Spice, with whom she collaborated on a remix of "Karma."

Above the Field

The pair were also joined by music producer RIOTUSA in their box suite above the field.

Game Day 'Fits

Swift looked chic in a black top accessorized with gold jewelry, including a #87 necklace in homage to Kelce's jersey.

Swift brought her bestie Blake Lively to watch the biggest sporting event of the year. While the "Anti-Hero" singer opted to wear sultry black, the actress wore her team spirit on her sleeve in a red and white track suit.

Classic Red Lip

The songstress has been painting her lips crimson since long before she sparked up a romance with the tight end. But since she started attending Chiefs games, football fans have been seeing way more of Swift's signature makeup look matching the players' jerseys.

Swift made a new friend in Shaquille O'Neal at the game. The NBA legend snapped and shared a photo with the "Blank Space" singer and Jamie Salter, the founder of Authentic Brands Group.

In his Instagram caption, O'Neal said he and Salter gifted Swift a luxury bag designer by Judith Leiber, one of the brands managed by Authentic Brands Group.

They did it! Swift and her friends went wild as the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in overtime.

Lake street dive singer will bring her 'quieter' band to minneapolis.

Singer Rachael Price has been coming to the Twin Cities so often she might as well have a timeshare condo.

"We really should, we love it there," said Price, who will appear with her side project, Rachael & Vilray, Thursday at the Dakota. She'll return in September with her main gig, the Minneapolis-rooted Lake Street Dive. On the later trip, the Brooklyn-based singer will bring her daughter Jupiter, now 10 months old.

That way she can show her daughter all the formative spots for Lake Street Dive. Like bandmate Mike "McDuck" Olson's parents' house in St. Louis Park where the band practiced. Like the Bryant Lake Bowl, which inspired the band's moniker. Like the Minnesota State Fair grandstand where the band last headlined here.

"We used to spend quite a bit of time there," Price said last week. "As a young band, we played hours and hours of badminton in McDuck's folks' backyard. We drove around the Twin Cities. We feel very fondly about Minneapolis."

Olson gave them a tour of Lake Street (he quit the band in 2021) as did the Lake Street Council on one of the group's recent trips to Minneapolis.

This week, Price will bring her quieter act, Rachael & Vilray, to play the 1930s and '40s styled jazz originals written by Vilray Bolles, her guitar-playing partner.

"Rachael & Vilray scratches my itch in singing lyrics in an intentional and sometimes theatrical way," Price said. "Sometimes the intention of rock and soul is more about the feel. With Lake Street Dive, it feels like a massive energy ball we're tossing back and forth with the audience. With Rachael & Vilray, it's just the two of us. I talk a lot more. We're conversing with each other and we're talking to the audience. There's a ton of jokes. My personality is more on display that way."

And Price favors different wardrobes for the two gigs — dresses with Vilray and "almost always pants with Lake Street Dive mostly 'cause I need to dance around a lot more."

Met at a music college

Price and Bolles met in a dorm as students at the New England Conservatory of Music in 2003.

"It was the first week of jazz school. Everyone was a little self-conscious and shy," Price said. "We didn't become good friends immediately."

Bolles hit it off with dormmate Mike Calabrese and "they had inside jokes from the first day and they wrote a lot of silly, fun songs." They formed a little band with Olson and invited Price to rehearsal to sing a song.

"It was a silly western country song about reincarnation," she recalled. "We [Bolles and she] were friends after that point."

And with Calabrese and Olson, she formed Lake Street Dive in 2004. They have released seven albums and three EPs. Rachael & Vilray have been a duo for eight years, though in the first two years all their gigs were in New York. They released a self-titled album in 2019 and dropped their sophomore effort, "I Love a Love Song," last year.

It features 11 Bolles originals, the most striking of which is "Hate Is the Basis (of Love)." What did Price think of it when he sent her a voice memo?

"He specifically wanted me to weigh in on the lyric 'she listens while I bitch.' His wife had given him feedback that 'you're creating a stereotype of women whining.' We had to make sure that he sang that line. He's the bitchy one, and I'm the one who listens. I loved the song immediately."

That song was a commission from a person who had the concept. When Bolles writes, he tells Price about what he was thinking.

"He's a man of great specificity: 'This is a song I'd envision Peggy Lee singing in the soft, quiet part of her range and basically whisper it and go from there.' Or 'This is a song Fred Astaire would sing to Ginger Rogers at this point in a movie, so you need to swing it like Fred Astaire would swing it.'

"He's like my director," she said of the composer who also writes instrumentals inspired by spaghetti western movies, "and I get to be the lead actor."

The new album features one cover, the standard "Goodnight My Love," a tune both Price and Bolles grew up singing.

"He grew up with the Ella Fitzgerald version and I learned it from this Shirley Temple movie [1936′s 'Stowaway'], and also the Sarah Vaughan version was definitive for me. We started singing it at the end of our shows."

Grew up on old jazz

Price, 38, has been listening to old music since she was very young. Born in Australia, she moved to Nashville at age 3, and her father was a choir director.

"Ella was my first love. We had a CD and my dad got me all her songbooks — Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart. I listened to those CDs constantly. By the time I was 10, I was singing 30 songs from the American songbook repertoire. I watched a lot of old movie musicals with Doris Day and Judy Garland. I was in an intense early jazz bubble till I was older."

Then as a teen, Price became interested in Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men and later D'Angelo and Lauryn Hill, which informed her singing with Lake Street Dive.

She and Bolles love old musicals. They drove around Colorado recently for four days listening only to Stephen Sondheim musicals.

They are in the midst of a delayed album release tour for "I Love a Love Song," which was released in January 2023. And the tour ends in Minneapolis. Two days later Price will be in Tampa for some Lake Street Dive festival performances, with baby Jupiter — and some pants — in tow.

The Diamond Fund

The Diamond Fund is not only a unique museum displaying a stunning exhibition of historical artefacts, jewellery and precious stones, but also the main treasury of the Russian Federation. The dazzling beauty of the jewellery exhibited here is indescribable. With jaw-dropping diamonds and sparkling emeralds, this collection is unrivalled the world over. We proudly invite you to visit one of the most ambitious projects in our country’s history!

Today, it seems incredible that this fantastic collection began as just a small wrought iron chest that Peter the Great instructed the royal jewels and state regalia be kept in. It is very doubtful that 300 years ago, Peter would have foreseen that his rather modest collection would turn into this mega-project, comparable to the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London.

On the tour you will see:

  • Invaluable historical exhibits: coronation ceremony instruments (orb, sceptre, crown), insignia, items specially made for the members of the imperial house, the jewellery of Russian kings and queens (tiaras, earrings, brooches, hair clips etc.).
  • The Russian monarchs’ power symbols - the Imperial Crown of Russia, a work of art made up of diamonds and pearls, topped with a rare red spinel.
  • Jewellery made of precious metals and stones, created in Soviet times by outstanding master craftsmen, especially for the Diamond Fund.
  • ‘Seven Wonders of the Diamond Fund’ - a legendary exhibition of gems, including diamonds and other stones of epic proportions.
  • The collection of platinum and gold nuggets, the largest of which is called the ‘Big Triangle’ and weighs a whopping 36kg!

However, the Diamond Fund should not only be assessed by its astronomical value. The Fund is priceless because every historical exhibit found here is a unique artefact, and the delicate art of the master jewellers defies the craftsmanship of Mother Nature herself!

A message from our CEO

The next chapter of our Gemini era

Feb 08, 2024

For years, we’ve been investing deeply in AI as the single best way to improve Search and all of our products. We’re excited by the progress, for example with our Search Generative Experience, or SGE, which you can try in Search Labs . AI is also now central to two businesses that have grown rapidly in recent years: our Cloud and Workspace services and our popular subscription service Google One, which is just about to cross 100 million subscribers.

A new state of the art

In December, we took a significant step on our journey to make AI more helpful for everyone with the start of the Gemini era , setting a new state of the art across a wide range of text, image, audio, and video benchmarks. However, Gemini is evolving to be more than just the models. It supports an entire ecosystem — from the products that billions of people use every day, to the APIs and platforms helping developers and businesses innovate.

The largest model Ultra 1.0 is the first to outperform human experts on MMLU (massive multitask language understanding), which uses a combination of 57 subjects — including math, physics, history, law, medicine and ethics — to test knowledge and problem-solving abilities.

Today we’re taking our next step and bringing Ultra to our products and the world.

Introducing Gemini Advanced

Bard has been the best way for people to directly experience our most capable models. To reflect the advanced tech at its core, Bard will now simply be called Gemini. It’s available in 40 languages on the web, and is coming to a new Gemini app on Android and on the Google app on iOS .

The version with Ultra will be called Gemini Advanced , a new experience far more capable at reasoning, following instructions, coding, and creative collaboration. For example, it can be a personal tutor, tailored to your learning style. Or it can be a creative partner, helping you plan a content strategy or build a business plan. You can read more in this post .

You can start using Gemini Advanced by subscribing to the new Google One AI Premium plan , which offers the best of Google’s AI features in a single place. This premium plan builds off the popular Google One service offering expanded storage and exclusive product features.

Video explaining two new experiences — Gemini Advanced and a mobile app — to help you easily collaborate with the best of Google AI.

Bringing Gemini’s capabilities to more products

Gemini models are also coming to products that people and businesses use every day, including Workspace and Google Cloud:

  • Workspace : Already, more than 1 million people are using features like Help me write to enhance their productivity and creativity through Duet AI. Duet AI will become Gemini for Workspace, and soon consumers with the Google One AI Premium plan can use Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Meet.
  • Google Cloud: For Cloud customers, Duet AI will also become Gemini in the coming weeks. Gemini will help companies boost productivity, developers code faster, and organizations to protect themselves from cyber attacks, along with countless other benefits.

More to come

Developers have been fundamental to every major technology shift and will play an equally important role in the Gemini ecosystem. Hundreds of thousands of developers and businesses have already been building with Gemini models. While today is about Gemini Advanced and its new capabilities, next week we'll share more details on what's coming for developers and Cloud customers.

These latest updates reflect how we’re approaching innovation boldly, and advancing and deploying this technology responsibly. And we’re already well underway training the next iteration of our Gemini models — so stay tuned for more!

Early Access to Rolling Stones U.S. Tour Tickets Now Available for AARP Members

Aarp is sponsoring stones tour ’24 hackney diamonds, and members have early access to tickets.

Alison Maxwell,

Keith Richards, Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones sitting inside a vehicle.

The Rolling Stones North American tour, sponsored by AARP, will kick off April 28, 2024, in Houston. Tickets go on sale for the general public Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. local time. AARP members now have access to a presale.

The band will perform in 16 cities across the U.S. and Canada, and will feature classic hits as well as music from their new album, Hackney Diamonds . The Stones last toured the U.S. in 2021 with their “No Filter” tour.

Hackney Diamonds , which just nabbed a Best Rock Song Grammy nomination for the lead single “Angry,” is the iconic band’s first set of originals since 2005’s A Bigger Bang. The title is drawn from British slang for the shards of glass left after a scofflaw smashes a windshield or window. Writing for AARP, music critic Edna Gundersen called the album “off the hook.”

“For those who doubted the Stones could match the greatness of past glories, ‘Hackney’ will come as a gratifying surprise. It crackles with the familiar grit, tattered pomp and dirty riffs that built their brand,” Gundersen wrote.

On the album, core members Mick Jagger , 80, and guitarists Keith Richards, 79, and Ronnie Wood, 76, are joined by Matt Clifford on keyboards, Darryl Jones, 61, on bass, and new drummer Steve Jordan, 66, handpicked by the late Charlie Watts as his replacement. Watts, who died in 2021 of cancer, and original bassist Bill Wyman, 86, who left the band in 1993, appear on tracks recorded in 2019.

Rolling Stones, Metallica, Usher and more: 8 tours that are skipping Indianapolis in 2024

With Taylor Swift, a few massive country shows and some solid '90s and '00s acts lined up, no one can say 2024 will be a down year in Indianapolis live music.

However, it could have been truly remarkable if a few big names in classic rock, hip-hop, metal or R&B hadn't skipped over the city in planning this year's mega-tours.

Here are eight major tours skipping Indianapolis, with the usual caveat that any or all could add the Circle City at a later date.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Related: Massive country stadium shows and early '00s throwbacks top Indy's 2024 concert lineup

The Rolling Stones 'Hackney Diamonds' Tour

Closest shows: June 27 and 30 in Chicago

The Rolling Stones released a new album in 2023, "Hackney Diamonds," and are setting out on a good old-fashioned stadium tour this summer. For now, Lucas Oil has been left off the bill.

I have one frame of reference for my dad's favorite band: A 2005 show he gently forced me to see, noting at the time that the band couldn't possibly be touring much longer. It could be my last chance.

I was more looking forward to The White Stripes, which had been opening on the tour. Who did I get instead?

Jason Mraz. I actually don't mind a good Mraz, but not when I'm expecting my favorite band.

That said, 17-year-old me was decently impressed by the Stones. It's been too long for 35-year-old me to have a deep opinion on what we're missing.

Tickets for the Chicago shows are not cheap but lower than I expected (about $300 each for middle-tier seating) given the group's legacy and the outrageous cost associated with large tours these days. Seems maybe worth the drive?

Usher Past Present Future Tour

Closest shows: Oct. 28-29 in Chicago

It's a big week for R&B sensation Usher. His new album, "Coming Home," drops Friday, and he plays the biggest gig of them all — the Super Bowl's halftime show — on Sunday.

Perhaps looking to capitalize on both, he also announced a new arena tour this week. But he did not find it in his heart to include Indianapolis and much of the Midwest.

I reserve judgment on how big this loss is until after Sunday. I have not yet seen Usher live.

More coverage: Eclipse event at The Vogue pits Team Jacob against Team Edward for the first time in years

Olivia Rodrigo GUTS World Tour

Closest show: March 22 in Columbus, Ohio

This one stings. Rodrigo has now skipped Indianapolis on both of her world tours promoting both of her (excellent) albums.

The Guts World Tour's first leg routes all around us for about two weeks: St. Louis, Saint Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit. The second leg then loops back to Lexington, Kentucky. But no love for Indy.

I am gutted over no Guts, but these two-year tours have a way of getting even longer. I'm not giving up hope.

Drake & J. Cole's It's All a Blur Tour

Closest shows: Feb. 20-21 in Columbus, Ohio

Rumors that Drake and/or J. Cole would perform during NBA All-Star week appear to have been unfounded, as the concert lineups for those events are more or less set . The It's All a Blur Tour appears poised to fly right on by.

Both artists have a good live reputation, but I have not seen either. I could have fixed that if they bothered to stop by.

Foo Fighters

Closest show: July 25 in Cincinnati

This is probably my biggest bummer of 2024 so far, for two reasons:

Obviously, this is a great band that always delivers a fun show.

But the Foos also canceled a sold-out Ruoff show in 2022 due to drummer Taylor Hawkins's shocking passing. I had hoped all the folks who didn't get to see them then, myself included, would get a shot on the next go around.

Closest shows: Aug. 9 and 11 in Chicago

Here is another situation in which multiple legs of the same tour have missed us. Soccer and football stadiums around the globe have welcomed Metallica, but not Lucas Oil.

I'm a fan, and I've been doubly curious to see if Metallica has moved into classic rock legacy status. I define this as putting on a show that is demonstrably worse than it would have been 20 years ago, but no one in the audience cares because you're reliving memories and dang it, that's still (band) up there.

Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service 'Give Up' and 'Transatlanticism' 20th Anniversary Tour

Closest show: April 30 in Columbus

Look, maybe no one else cares, but how is Columbus getting the 20th anniversary tours of "Transatlanticism" and "Give Up" while Indy is not? What is in the water over there that's attracting multiple shows on this list.

Yes, we've had Death Cab in town multiple times in two years. I. Do. Not. Care. This tour is seminal to my teenage years. The only person more disappointed is my 6-year-old, who can bang out the "Transatlanticism" title track on piano on cue.

Closest show: April 19-20 in Ashland, Kentucky

We'll live.

Vodka Museum Tour with transport (excursion only)

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
