Bring Me The Horizon – Concert review

Written by molly brown on 9th february 2024.

I saw ‘Bring Me The Horizon’ for the first time on tour on January 16 2024 at Newcastle Utilita Arena – they simply did not disappoint.

This tour had three different support acts, the first support act was Staticdress, second was Cassyette and third was Bad Omens. Since the tour I have had Cassyette on repeat as I loved her set, I highly recommend seeing all of these acts live. All of the support acts I saw put on a great show as they were engaging with the crowd effortlessly. Even though crowds may not of known who they were, this did not stop them all putting on an amazing show.

Bring Me The Horizon came on later in the evening opening up with one of their new songs DArkSide then going on to play songs from various albums such as ‘Semptiteral’, ‘Post human: survival horror’ and ‘That’s the spirit’. They also played their new song ‘Kool – aid’. They played a lot of well known songs but they also went back in time and played some of their older songs. Hearing the range of songs was surprising as they made sure to play their older music as well as their newer style.

Through out the concert Bring Me The Horizon singer Oli Sykes was interacting with the fans whether that was getting them to sing part of the song, talking into the crowd – teasing their new songs from their unreleased album.

Through out the concert Oli had to stop the show three times due to issues within the crowd. From the first moment he saw the issue occur he was speaking into the mic about it so security and medical professionals would go over and check the situation out. He made sure everything was completely solved before starting the show again. As this happened more than once he would mention how everyone’s safety is important and how we all should look after each other. This made me feel safe as a fan because of his fast response.

After Bring Me The Horizon finished their set list they had an encore which included the songs ‘doomed’, ‘LosT’ and ‘Throne’. As this was my first time seeing them all of my expectations were met but they also went beyond my expectations. Even though their music is expectably amazing they can also put on a show without the music. This was amazing for fans as we felt more connected to them on a personal basis through their music.

I would highly recommend going to see Bring Me The Horizon, Bad Omens and Cassyette in concert, the music community is so amazing and going to a concert you don’t only get to see your favourite artist but you also get involved in a community. Getting involved in the community, I got a warm welcome that enhanced my experience as a fan.

Overall there was a great energy in the venue and I would love to see them again.

The critically acclaimed release, which features hit singles “Parasite Eve,” “Obey” (with Yungblud), “Teardrops,” and “Ludens,” debuted at Number 1 on the UK charts and was praised by NME for being “rooted in raw relevance for today and the cyber-punk energy of tomorrow.”

Bring me the horizon’s unforgettable ‘nx_gn’ experience arrives at newcastle utilita arena [photos].

Bring Me The Horizon brought their huge ‘NX_GN’ tour to Newcastle Utilita Arena. Check out the photos and full review here…

' src=

Sheffield lads Bring Me The Horizon have come a long way from the days when they were trudging around the UK pub circuit as a leading name in the MySpace influx of new metal bands. Compare that to when the band completely levelled Castle Donington earlier last Summer when they headlined Download Festival ( read our review here ), and it is like comparing chalk and cheese.

Finally, the NX_GN tour arrives in the North East of England, and the bitterly cold weather wasn’t going to stop legions of fans from turning out in force for this sold-out gig.

Sadly, Yorkshire lads Static Dress had been and gone by the time we arrived at the arena, but it wasn’t long before rising alt-pop star Cassyette was bouncing onto the stage. Having announced her new album, This World Fucking Sucks , along with her biggest headline tour, that day, Cassyette was ready to work this packed to the rafters arena into a frenzy. It’s been a long two years since first crossing paths with the singer, so it’s great to report that she is blossoming into an absolute star of the alternative scene with her infectious anthems. It’s going to be a long seven months until the release of the album, but on this evidence, it will be worth the wait.

Following their set, the road crew needs to use a forklift truck to dismantle Bad Omens stage production. It would appear that, while they may only be special guests on this run, the Richmond metalcore crew are pulling out all the stops with a headline-level production. Thankfully, the band have the material to match their retina-burning set-up as “ARTIFICIAL SUICIDE” and “Glass Houses” shake every corner of the room. Blending thunderous metalcore breakdowns with equally huge melodies, Bad Omens are the perfect example of how a melding of metal and pop should sound. Wrapping things up with a ferocious “Dethrone,” the band have shown why they’re rapidly becoming a leading light in the new breed of modern metal bands.

Anyone who thought that Bring Me The Horizon had not earned the right to share a headlining bill alongside metal giants like Slipknot and Metallica at Download Festival last year would have soon been eating those words as the Sheffield rock band delivered an unforgettable performance. Bringing out a scaled-down version of that spectacle for this run, the “NX_GN” production still dwarfed most other shows, setting the bar high for the rest of this year and beyond.

Interestingly, prior to their set, the huge screens at the side of the stage flashed up a series of video game adverts, and as the band took to the stage with an equally futuristic, video game-style intro, it almost felt like this was a massive market that the band are going to be tapping into in the coming year or two.

Announcing new album news and the departure of keyboardist Jordan Fish recently, it’s been a busy time for the band. They hit the stage with “DArkSide” with near hysteria greeting “Empire (Let Them Sing).” The first of a number of stoppages followed before “MANTRA” and “Teardrops” ramped things up again. By the time the show had reached the current single, “Kool-Aid,” the band were cruising. Frontman Oli Sykes has become the kind of frontman who can hold crowds like this in the palm of his hand while writing the kind of tune fit for the pop charts and the moshpits.

Those tunes include the likes of “Shadow Moses”, “Anti-Vist” and “Drown”, one perfect slice of pristine pop and modern metal after another. They return for an encore which includes “Doomed” and “Throne,” the crowd responding with almost boy band-like hysteria. Mosh pits spit out, girls scream, and Sykes oversees the insanity with a huge grin on his face knowing that, while headlining Download might have been a high point of their career, tonight showed that the Sheffield band were just getting warmed up.

Bring Me The Horizon have parted ways with Jordan Fish: "We want to thank him for the musical journey he took with us"

Jordan Fish, who joined Bring Me The Horizon in 2012, is no longer in the band

Following weeks of rumours, UK metalcore megastars Bring Me The Horizon have confirmed that longtime keyboardist and percussionist Jordan Fish is no longer in the band. Confirming Fish's exit on Twitter, the band confirm that their current tour and album plans will remain intact.

"Bring Me The Horizon has decided to part ways with Jordan Fish," the band's statement reads. "We want to thank him for the musical journey he took with us and wish him luck with everything in the future. Meanwhile we continue to work on Nex Gen, with brand new music coming very soon. See you on our UK tour in January."

Fish released a statement of his own soon after, which reads as follows: "I’m really grateful for my 11 years with the band, and extremely proud of all that we have achieved together. I look forward to hearing what they do next, and wish them every success in the future. I’m excited to start this next chapter in my career."

Fish joined Bring Me The Horizon in 2012, making his first on-record appearance with the band on their seminal 2013 album, Sempiternal , which he helped co-write. He is generally credited with playing a big role in the band's musical evolution throughout the 2010s.

Bring Me The Horizon will tour the UK next month, supported by fellow metalcore heavyweights Bad Omens, nu gen leade Cassyette and alt-rockers Static Dress. Their next album, Nex Gen , is due out at some point next year.

It looks like a Bring Me The Horizon and Underoath collaboration is on the way

Eagle-eyed fans spotted what appears to be a teaser at the recent UK live shows

Spencer Chamberlain of the band Underoath and Oliver Sykes of Bring Me The Horizon

It appears that Bring Me The Horizon are set to drop a new track in collaboration with Underoath .

  • READ MORE: Oli Sykes talks “unhinged” new Bring Me The Horizon album ‘NeX GEn’

Speculation that the two may be joining forces arose following Oli Sykes and Co. kicking off their UK tour earlier this week, with an opening night at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff.

During part of the show, the frontman was seen talking with an AI character on the screens behind him, and sharing some details about their long-awaited album ‘POST HUMAN NeX GEn’ .

The AI character then began sharing teasers of the upcoming tracklist, and for a couple of seconds, the MP3 player showed what appeared to be an upcoming song called ‘Bullet With My Names On’ featuring Underoath, with a brief snippet of audio played.

@elliemaypaultattoo #bringmethehorizon #bringmethehorizoncardiff #badomens #badomenscardiff #bmth #bringmethehorizontour2024 ♬ original sound – Ellie-May Paul

Needless to say, upon footage of the gig being shared online, fans were quick to notice the details, and have begun speculating if it means that we can expect a partnership on the new LP.

“I know Aaron and Spencer vibed hard with Oli when UØ opened the 2017 BMTH tour, to the point that Oli and Jordan were thrown around as possible producers for ‘Erase Me’ [Underoath’s 2018 album],” one fan highlighted on Reddit.

Recommended

Another agreed, highlighting that the two touring together in 2017 impacted the sound of Underoath’s music from then onwards: “I swear that their relationship with BMTH is the reason ‘Erase Me’ sounded the way it did… it really felt like the band was trying to shift into a similar direction as Bring Me the Horizon; more stage production, more radio-friendly, etc.”

Another on the Reddit page was more dubious about a collaboration including the whole band, writing: “Usually it means it’s featuring Aaron [Gillespie]/Spencer [Chamberlain] and not Underoath as a whole. This has been the case for the past few collabs.”

Underoath featured on new BMTH album? by u/Wild_Wrangler9856 in Underoath

Earlier this week, Bring Me The Horizon confirmed that their new album ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’ will come out this summer .

Initially, the follow-up to 2020’s ‘POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR’ was scheduled to drop last September, following being announced during the band’s headline debut at Download Festival .

However, frontman Oli Sykes later confirmed that the album was being delayed due to “unforeseen circumstances” leaving the band “unable to complete the record to the standard we’d be happy with”.

Describing what fans can expect from the upcoming LP last year, Sykes told NME : “I wouldn’t say it’s a hyper-pop album, but I’ve definitely been inspired by that world. I admire how obnoxious, trashy and in-your-face that music feels, which is what I was drawn to when I got into emo, hardcore and screamo.”

“It’s not that we’ve lost that in our music, but as you become a bigger band, things do get more polished,” he added. “I want to go the opposite way. Let’s be unhinged, let’s stop trying to make all the edges smooth.”

Last week, the band dropped ‘Kool-Aid’ – the latest teaser of the album, following on from previous singles ‘DArkSide’ , ‘LosT’ , ‘AmEN!’ , ‘DiE4u’ and ‘sTraNgeRs’ .

It also marked the first release from the band since the sudden departure of their longtime keyboardist and percussionist Jordan Fish at the end of December.

Fish had been part of the Sheffield rock band since 2012 and had been instrumental in shaping the band’s songwriting approach and modern sound by adding more electronic elements.

In a four-star review of their opening night in Cardiff, NME described the show as “a blistering comeback statement” that proved BMTH were “still at their best”.

The band resumed their 2024 UK and Ireland tour in Bournemouth last night (January 10), and will continue with further dates in Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, London and Dublin.

You can find any remaining tickets here , and see the full schedule below.
