B-Travel 2020 presents the best destinations and offers in experience-based tourism
B-Travel, Fira Barcelona’s trade show specialising in experience-based tourism, will be presenting a wide range of the best local and international tourism destinations in an edition that will involve the participation of all the Spanish autonomous communities and more than 40 countries represented in Spain, highlighting some Latin American countries such as Brazil and Bolivia, which are participating for the first time with an official delegation.
Organised by Fira Barcelona, B-Travel, which will take place from 27th to 29th March at the Montjuïc venue, will offer over 100 offers, prizes and trips, and over 100 culinary tasting sessions at B-Delicious, the event’s world gastronomy festival.
The event will bring together more than 200 direct exhibitors across 5,000 net square metres of space, which will allow all visitors to discover the best offer of experiential tourism currently available.
Thus, in addition to the presence of all the national destinations and delegations of 40 countries and regions of the world represented in Spain, travel agencies, hotels, cruise operators, transport companies and tourist services companies will also participate in the largest tourist event for end consumers. Renowned companies in the tourism industry such as Renfe and Vueling will present their latest offers, services, promotions and new features.
The president of B-Travel, Martí Sarrate, points out that “in addition to trying to provide an attractive offer for potential travellers with a representative sample of the best national and international destinations, B-Travel aims to respond to the concerns of professionals with actions designed exclusively for them .” Sarrate adds that “at B-Travel the emphasis will be on promoting sustainable and responsible tourism and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals will be made known .”
Local Tourism and Latin America Among the local destinations, as well as the presence of all the tourism boards of the four Catalan provinces and the diffusion of the ‘Sports Tourism Year’ promoted by the Government of Catalonia; Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, Castile and León, the Canary Islands, Galicia and Navarre will also be highlighted whereas, on an international level, the main new feature is the participation, for the first time, of Brazil and Bolivia. Other international destinations such as Cape Verde, Iceland, Cuba and the Dominican Republic are part of the B-Travel 2020 offer, as well as other popular countries such as Croatia, France, Portugal and Morocco.
The director of the event, Marta Serra, states that “at this year’s trade show, B-Travel seeks to bring the large offer of local tourism and Latin America destinations to the visitor in a particularly complicated time for the industry .” Serra points out that “additionally, B-Travel is set up as a huge travel agency to give visitors the opportunity to plan their summer holidays, the great season for tourism .”
B-Delicious: a Journey of Tastes One of the event´s great attractions will be B-Delicious, the food and wine space where over 100 specialities from different cultures around the world can be tasted, from those found close to home and others from further away. Thus, visitors will be able to try traditional Catalan and Spanish dishes as well as exotic cuisine such as Caribbean, South African, American Cajun, as well as a special mention to Mexican and Brazilian food.
On 28th March, B-Delicious will include the presence of the Mexican chef Paco Méndez, from the one Michelin star restaurant ‘Hoja Santa’ in Barcelona; the presentation for the first time of the map of the 100 Mexican restaurants in the city and the recreation of an authentic ‘Altar of the Dead’, during which there will be a performance by a Mariachi group. Also participating on the 29th will be Brazilian chef Rafael Vertamatti, from the Rafael Bar Restaurante, who will showcase the great Amazonian gastronomic heritage with a wide diversity of edible river fish and unusual sweet fruits.
Moreover, with the aim of increasing commercial transactions within the framework of B-Travel, the trade show presents more than 100 special offers and discounts through B-Travel Passport, which visitors must fill out after passing a series of tests organised by the exhibitors that give them the opportunity of participating in a draw with prizes and discounts on trips valued at more than 6,000 euros. In this way, visitors will be able to choose trips to the United States, Indonesia, hotel nights, safaris, experiential weekends, international flights and discounts, among others.
Professionals and the End Consumer Following the line initiated four years ago, once again, B-Travel has a programme of B2B activities at B-Travel Professional Meetings, the B-Travel Job Market Place and the B-Industrial themed days to promote business opportunities within the framework of the trade show.
Additionally, and to make the visit to the trade show more attractive, all kinds of activities have been organised for end consumers. On centre stage, the B-Travel Experience Area, there will be musical performances and exhibitions of dances from various countries. The B-Travel Cinema will also be back, showing the exhibitor’s documentaries and travel videos.
In partnership with Vueling, B-Travel will hold casting auditions to choose two people who will travel for free to ten destinations which this company flies to. To encourage the fair’s visitors to participate, the travellers who have taken part in this promotion from 14th February to 9th March will describe their experiences, visiting Las Palmas, Málaga, Marrakech, Athens, Lisbon, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Prague and London.
B-Travel has designed the visit to the trade show around the interests of the traveller, which is why the experiences are sectioned into various interests: B-Delicious (food and wine experiences); B-Happy (family, friends and wellness trips), B-Culture (art, history and culture), B-Special (shopping, new luxury, etc.), B-Adventure (sport and adventure) and B-Industrial (routes in areas with a broad historical and industrial heritage).

The Seville Fair is an annual Spanish festival which lasts for a whole week and is part of the tradition of the city of Seville, Andalusia. Both locals and tourists from all over the world travel to the city to celebrate the April fair (called the Feria de Abril in Spanish) . There are horse-drawn carriages, mythical costumes and lots of other activities that are sure to delight the whole family at the Seville fair in 2024.
La feria de Sevilla facts : But what is La Feria de Sevilla? And why is it celebrated? The origins of the Seville festival date back to 1846, when an entrepreneurial businessman and his wife asked for permission to hold an annual fair in April. Since then, the Feria de Abril in Seville has continued every year, becoming one of the most popular international festivals in Spain and in the world.
During the fair, the city is transformed into a vibrant and colourful celebration , with streets and squares adorned with decorative lights, and people dressed in traditional flamenco attire. The main venue of the fair is the Real de la Feria, a large fairground with rows of casetas , or tents, set up by local families, businesses, and organisations.
The Feria de Abril (April Fair) in Seville, Spain, is celebrated at a specific venue known as the Real de la Feria (Fairground). This fairground is located in the Los Remedios district of Seville, on the west bank of the Guadalquivir River. The fairground is transformed into a lively and colourful space during the Feria, with rows of temporary casetas (marquee tents) where people gather to socialise, dance, eat, and enjoy various festivities. The Feria de Abril typically takes place two weeks after Semana Santa (Holy Week) and lasts for around a week. It's one of the most famous and vibrant festivals in Spain, attracting visitors from around the world.
The Seville April fair is usually held a week or two after Easter, which means that in 2024 it is being held from Sunday 14th April to Saturday 20th April. It is a truly unique festival and the dancing, food and music are part of the festive atmosphere of the city.
The history of the Feria de Abril in Seville began in 1847 as a farmer’s cattle fair . Over the years, the festival has constantly changed and now has over a thousand well-organised stalls that are set up on the fairgrounds to welcome both locals and visitors alike.
The above mentioned "casetas" are central to the Feria de Abril. These booths, tents and stalls are places where you can eat local food from Seville, such as the typical calamares con salsa aioli (fried squid with garlic mayo). You can also drink local sherry and dance until the early hours of the morning. Inside, one of the most typical Seville festival activities is watching the sevillanas , the famous flamenco-style dance that originates from this part of Spain. Soak up the atmosphere where men are dressed in a traditional country style, while the women steal the show in their traditional colourful dresses, as they dance wildly together to the beat of the cajones and the strumming of the guitar.
Another one of the interesting facts about the Seville April feria is that it begins with the so-called “ prueba de alumbrao” ( lighting test ), the lighting of the fairgrounds and the main gate. From here on, the horses with jockeys, riders and carriages stroll gently through the streets, and colour and joy flood the city. Tourists can rent their own horse-drawn carriage and take advantage of the many attractions for children and adults to enjoy this incredible festival to the fullest.
The fair is celebrated by the people of the Andalusian city of Seville, as well as visitors from other parts of Spain and from around the world. It is a time for dressing up in traditional flamenco attire, dancing, music, food, and drink .
In addition to the locals and tourists, there are also many international communities that also celebrate the Feria de Abril , including the Spanish-speaking communities in Latin America, Europe, and the United States.
The dress code for the Seville Feria is traditional and formal. For women, the typical attire is the flamenco dress , known as a "traje de flamenca" or "traje de gitana." These dresses are colourful and often feature ruffles, lace, and floral patterns. Women may also wear a shawl, known as a "mantón de Manila," and accessorise with flowers in their hair and flamenco-style jewellery.
For men, the traditional attire consists of a suit called a "traje corto" or "traje de corto," which typically includes a short jacket, tight trousers, a white shirt, and a wide-brimmed hat known as a "sombrero cordobés." This attire is reminiscent of the traditional clothing worn by Andalusian horsemen.
While traditional attire is common at the Seville Feria, it's also acceptable to wear formal evening wear , such as suits for men and elegant dresses for women. However, wearing traditional attire adds to the festive atmosphere of the event and allows attendees to immerse themselves fully in the cultural experience of the Feria.
The city of Seville has an impressive Arab legacy, with a range of emblematic buildings declared World Heritage Sites , as well as neighbourhoods like La Macarena and Triana having a very long history.
With fairground rides, museums, art centres, clubs, theatres and much more in Seville, the fact is that there is an unlimited range of leisure activities on offer during the festival and throughout the year. One of the most popular activities in Seville which you can't miss is the Spanish pastime of "el tapeo", when the bars, taverns and terraces fill up with people eating tasty tapas and drinking refreshing beverages.
The Giralda, the Cathedral of Seville, the Archive of the Indies, the Alcazar, the Plaza de España and the Torre del Oro – all of these monuments stand out in Seville, as does its historical centre, one of the largest in Spain and Europe . It’s unthinkable to go on a getaway to Seville and not visit its most notable monuments, incredible neighbourhoods and beautiful streets. Why not take a trip to enjoy both the city and it's annual fair at the same time?

Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest for international travel, will move its operations to the city-state’s second, sprawling airfield in its southern desert reaches “within the next 10 years” in a project worth nearly $35 billion, its ruler said Sunday.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s announcement marks the latest chapter in the rebound of its long-haul carrier Emirates after the coronavirus pandemic grounded international travel. Plans have been on the books for years to move the operations of the airport known as DXB to Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central which had also been delayed by the repercussions of the sheikhdom’s 2009 economic crisis.
“We are building a new project for future generations, ensuring continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn,” Sheikh Mohammed said in an online statement. “Dubai will be the world’s airport, its port, its urban hub and its new global center.”
The announcement included computer-rendered images of curving, white terminal reminiscent of the traditional Bedouin tents of the Arabian Peninsula. The airport will include five parallel runways and 400 aircraft gates, the announcement said. The airport now has just two runways, like Dubai International Airport.
The financial health of the carrier Emirates has served as a barometer for the aviation industry worldwide and the wider economic health of this city-state. Dubai and the airline rebounded quickly from the pandemic by pushing forward with tourism even as some countries more slowly came out of their pandemic crouch.
The number of passengers flying through DXB surged last year beyond its total for 2019 with 86.9 million passengers. Its 2019 annual traffic was 86.3 million passengers. The airport had 89.1 million passengers in 2018 — its busiest-ever year before the pandemic, while 66 million passengers passed through in 2022.
Earlier in February, Dubai announced its best-ever tourism numbers, saying it hosted 17.15 million international overnight visitors in 2023. Average hotel occupancy stood at around 77%. Its boom-and-bust real estate market remains on a hot streak , nearing all-time high valuations.
But as those passenger numbers skyrocketed, it again put new pressure on the capacity of DXB, which remains constrained on all sides by residential neighborhoods and two major highways.
Al Maktoum International Airport, some 45 kilometers (28 miles) away from DXB, opened in 2010 with one terminal. It served as a parking lot for Emirates’ double-decker Airbus A380s and other aircraft during the pandemic and slowly has come back to life with cargo and private flights in the time since. It also hosts the biennial Dubai Air Show and has a vast, empty desert in which to expand.
The announcement by Sheikh Mohammed noted Dubai’s plans to expand further south. Already, its nearby Expo 2020 site has been offering homes for buyers.
“As we build an entire city around the airport in Dubai South, demand for housing for a million people will follow,” Dubai’s ruler said. “It will host the world’s leading companies in the logistics and air transport sectors.”
However, financial pressures have halted the move in the past. Dubai’s 2009 financial crisis, brought on by the Great Recession, forced Abu Dhabi to provide the city-state with a $20 billion bailout.
Meanwhile, the city-state is still trying to recover after the heaviest rainfall ever recorded in the UAE , which disrupted flights and commerce for days.
