Mum & You Vegan Wet Wipes are yet another great option for your little guy. These travel size baby wipes work efficiently and have a nice texture. They also have durable construction, so they don’t rip as easily as most products out there. Meanwhile, the advertisement says that these wet wipes are biodegradable. This means you can simply dump them in your backyard, and the ground will slowly decompose them. What a great way to clean your baby and protect the environment!

Our only complaint is how these wipes are pleated together. This makes it difficult to take one wet wipe at a time, especially when you have to do it with one hand at 3 am. We hope Mum & You will fix this soon, as these wipes are pretty good.

There are some notes, though. First of all, these travel size baby wipes dry pretty fast. Nevertheless, there wasn’t anything that a little water couldn’t fix. How to Choose The Best Travel Size Baby Wipes

Picking the best travel size baby wipes can be a little more complicated than it seems. First of all, there are so many brands and styles available out there. You can go with different scents, no scent, all-natural, and so on. And if you have the time and patience, you can even make your own travel size baby wipes!

Of course, you have the right to go wild and randomly pick any wet wipes for your baby. We’re pretty sure they’ll get the job done. However, you need to understand that some wipes do it faster, cleaner, and healthier. With that in mind, here are our three essential tips on choosing the best travel size baby wipes.

Let’s start with the basics first. There are two types of travel size baby wipes now available in the market when it comes to brands. One with a well-known brand and the other with a generic brand a.k.a store brand. Some families choose wipes from generic brands, as they’re cheaper and allow you to save some money. But if the quality is your main concern, you definitely need to go with wipes from the major brands. While available at higher prices, they’re manufactured to the strictest standards and use the latest technology.

Getting scented travel size baby wipes are a good thing to do, especially if you don’t really ‘enjoy’ the process of cleaning your little one’s bottom. However, you need to make sure that your baby doesn’t have sensitive skin. That’s because scented diapers have some active content that might cause irritation or allergic reactions, especially around the diaper area. In this case, unscented wipes are a better choice. But to be sure, you may want to consult your local pediatrician.

Looking for other compact-sized baby care products? Don’t forget to check out our 13 best travel size baby shampoos .

Travel size baby wipes generally come in two types of containers. First, we have the rigid plastic box. This one is refillable, which is great when you have a few diapers left at home. It’s also compatible with several quick-change stations. On the other hand, there are also travel baby wipes in a plastic bag. While not as rigid as the boxy ones, this one is great for holding used diapers. It also doesn’t take up that much space.

Well, you can put them in your carry-on or check-in bag. If you don’t want to bring the original packaging, you can take some wipes and put them in your own zip lock. Don’t worry about the TSA check as travel size baby wipes aren’t considered liquid.

Yes, absolutely. According to the official TSA website, wet wipes of any quantity can be carried-on. This also includes a disinfectant spray and baby wipes. But for more information, you can contact your local airline.

Speaking of baby needs, check out our 13 best flip flops for babies . They would be great to accompany your babies, wherever they want to go.

Yes, they’re essential when you have a little person at home. These wipes work effectively in cleaning dirt. Some products even have active ingredients that can act as sanitizers. So the answer is yes, baby wipes are necessary.

Buying guide for best travel wipes cases.

Remembering what cleaning up on the go was like before travel wipes were invented is hard. These cleanser-infused, disposable cloths are invaluable when it comes to cleaning up messes and wiping hands and faces when soap and water aren’t available. However, preventing them from drying out isn’t always easy, especially when you stash them in your car, diaper bag, or purse. That’s when travel wipes cases come in handy.

If you use travel wipes, you’ve probably been frustrated with their less-than-ideal packaging. Some come in bulky canisters that take up a lot of space. Others are wrapped in flimsy plastic that is prone to tears. These packages often don’t close tightly, causing the wipes to dry out, which defeats their purpose.

With their slim, durable designs and secure closures, travel wipes cases solve this problem.

small travel baby wipes

Key considerations

Hand wipes vs. baby wipes.

There are slight differences in these moist, disposable cloths. Hand wipes are made specifically for cleaning grimy hands, while baby wipes are formulated especially for delicate baby bottoms. They both can be stored in travel wipes cases.

Hand wipes often contain antibacterial ingredients and may contain alcohol, so they are more likely to dry out than baby wipes. They are thinner than baby wipes and take up less space in a travel wipes case.

Baby wipes, also called diaper wipes, are made with cleansers that are gentle on babies' sensitive skin. They are typically thicker than hand wipes.

Other types of wipes

Travel wipes cases provide a convenient way to store and carry just about any type of moist towelette. Face wipes, makeup cleansing cloths , exfoliating wipes, flushable adult wipes , and even wipes made for pets , furniture, or cars can all be stored and carried in these versatile cases.

small travel baby wipes

Case material

The majority of travel wipes cases are made of plastic that is either flexible or rigid. Flexible plastic cases typically have slimmer profiles and can more easily fit in tight spaces and small bags. Rigid plastic cases come in several sizes, including thin designs. They tend to take up a bit more space.

Design and closure

Travel wipes cases all have the same purpose, but there are several design options and closures to choose from.

Cases with flip-top lids are the most common, featuring a lid that snaps open and closed. These cases are usually made of rigid plastic. Although affordable, the wide opening means that wipes are at risk of drying out, especially if the lid isn’t closed tightly.

Designed to be held like a small purse, clutch cases are typically made of a flexible plastic material and have zippers or flip-open closures. However, some rigid plastic cases also come in a clutch-like design. Some models even sport wrist straps that make them easy to carry.

One-at-a-time dispenser cases are great for busy moms or anyone who has their hands full. They have a small opening on top that can be maneuvered with one hand. The opening allows one wipe at a time to be dispensed, which helps keep the others moist. This handy feature can be found on both flexible and rigid cases.

Some cases have dual closures – a larger one for refills and a smaller one to dispense individual wipes. They offer both an easy way to add more wipes and a convenient dispensing mechanism. Dual closures can be found on some flexible plastic cases, but they are more commonly found on those made of hard plastic.

Some travel wipes cases have small attached tethers that are made of silicone or flexible plastic. These tethers can be used to secure cases to strollers , diaper bags , and suitcases , and they double as handles.

Included wipes

Some travel wipes cases come pre-loaded with wipes already in them. These cases are typically offered by popular brands that make baby products and include baby wipes. The cases are refillable with any kind of travel wipe.

Travel wipes case prices

Another appealing feature of travel wipes cases is that they come at affordable prices. Cases are available between $5 and $25, with pricier options boasting better quality and more features. Keep in mind that some brands offer multiple cases that fall in each of the three price categories.

Inexpensive

For around $5 to $7 , you’ll find basic cases that serve their purpose but may not offer longevity. Hard plastic models typically fall in this price range and may be prone to cracks or malfunctioning closures.

Cases in the range of $8 to $12 are ideal for many consumers. Not only will you find a variety of styles and designs, but these travel wipes cases offer better quality and durability than cheaper options.

For $13 to $25 , you’ll find travel wipes cases made of durable rigid or flexible plastic with reliable closures like zippers that keep wipes moist and fresh. Larger cases that can accommodate lots of wipes also fall in this price range.

  • If you have kids, consider keeping several travel wipes cases on hand. You’ll be able to take extra wipes along for outings and car trips.
  • If you have a youngster who is still in diapers, two travel wipes cases will come in handy. Use one to carry baby wipes and the other for wipes for cleaning hands, spills, and small messes.
  • Stash a travel wipes case in your child’s school backpack . Your child will have wipes handy any time they are needed.
  • Do you like to carry travel wipes in your purse? Thin travel wipes cases made of flexible materials are ideal for this purpose because they don’t take up a lot of space or add much weight to a bag.
  • Think outside the box. Travel wipes cases can be useful for other purposes besides toting wipes. You can also use them for stowing craft supplies, small toys, and travel necessities like medications, makeup, and toiletries.

small travel baby wipes

Q. Are travel wipes cases made of flexible plastic durable?

A. It may seem like flexible plastic wouldn’t be as strong as hard plastic, but this isn’t necessarily true. Quality travel wipes cases made of flexible plastic materials are surprisingly tough and resist tears, rips, and punctures. Plus, flexible plastic isn’t prone to cracking like rigid plastic, and it won’t crack if dropped.

Q. I like to take a lot of baby wipes along when I’m away from home. What features should I look for in a travel wipes case?

A. Because baby wipes tend to be thicker than hand wipes, fewer can fit in very slim cases. For packing a healthy supply, look for a travel wipes case that has added depth. Some brands make expandable cases with pouch-like designs that can hold a generous supply of baby wipes.

Q. What are some common concerns with travel wipes cases?

A. Keeping travel wipes moist is important, otherwise, they offer no added benefits over towels or tissues. A subpar closure can be a major issue when it comes to locking in moisture, but this problem can be avoided by purchasing a well-made case. Longevity can also be an issue, and inexpensive models are more likely to wear out, crack, or stop closing securely.

Q. How many wipes fit in a typical travel wipes case?

A. The number varies depending on the type of travel case you choose, but plan on fitting between 12 and 35 wipes in your new case.

Best Baby Wipes of 2024

Once you choose the best diapers for your child, it’s time to stock up on the best baby wipes — but it’s not necessarily as simple as snagging a pack from the same brand. Just like diapers , wipes can vary greatly, so it’s a good idea to start shopping before your little one enters the world. Keep in mind that your doctor might recommend avoiding wipes for at least the first few weeks, as your baby’s bottom can be sensitive, and it might be best to use just cloths and water.

Start by reading the ingredients on the wipes you’re considering to ensure there aren’t any that could cause a reaction, such as fragrance and alcohol. Since the best baby wipes aren’t an expensive purchase upfront, you can try different ones to make sure you’re using the right ones on your child.

Coterie The Wipe  »

Best Baby Wipes

Thick and very strong so you use less

Designed to dispense one at a time

Only has eight ingredients

Made off 99% purified water

100% FSC-certified plant-based fibers

Hypoallergenic and fragrance free

Large size isn’t needed for small messes

You truly get what you pay for with The Wipe by Coterie. These best baby wipes are thick and tough, so they won’t scrunch up when you’re cleaning up a number two. Don’t worry, though — they’re also very soft to be gentle on sensitive areas. The Wipe is hypoallergenic, fragrance free, and made of 99% of purified water. In total, they only have eight ingredients, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Plus, Coterie makes it so you don’t even have to think about ordering wipes. Simply set up a subscription on its site to have a new batch delivered to your door every three, four, or five weeks. (And if you add a wipe subscription to your diaper subscription, you save 15%.)

Coterie’s wipes are made with 100% Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified plant-based fibers, meaning they come from a forest that’s being managed to preserve biological diversity and benefit the lives of local people and workers. These are the most expensive wet wipes on our list, however, they’re worth it. As we mentioned, they’re incredibly strong to make diaper changes easier. These wipes are also pretty big, which means you may find that you don’t even use the whole thing for just a pee situation.

Costco Kirkland Signature Baby Wipes Fragrance Free  »

Best Baby Wipes

Very budget friendly

Includes nine packs of 100

Works to moisturize the skin

No chlorine, alcohol, dyes, parabens, or phthalates

Accepted by the National Eczema Association

Not the strongest

May be difficult to pull out one at a time

Costco is here to provide a quality product — and a lot of it — without breaking the bank. The Kirkland Signature Baby Wipes come in a box with nine packs of 100 wipes, so you’ll have plenty to keep in the diaper bag and set up a second changing station area. At just $0.03 per wipe, this is an affordable option that parents can count on.

Being budget friendly doesn’t mean skimping safety. These wipes are hypoallergenic and fragrance free. You won’t find chlorine, alcohol, dyes, parabens, or phthalates, either. They’re even accepted by the National Eczema Association (NEA), indicating it’s safe for those with very sensitive skin. Costco even says these moisturize the skin. Megan Wood, Senior Editor at 360 Reviews, has been using these wipes for about a year (after trying out seemingly every other wipe on the market) and appreciates that they’re gentle on her daughter’s eczema-prone skin and tough enough to clean up a serious mess. Her only issue with them is that a new package is a bit bulky to carry in a diaper bag .

The Kirkland Signature wipes are the strongest out there, and some buyers have reported having trouble getting just one out at a time. However, those factors could be overlooked if price is top of mind. Costco only allows three boxes of these wipes purchased with each membership, but that still gives you plenty of room to stock up so you’re never without.

Dyper Simply Kind Baby Wipes  »

Best Baby Wipes

Made of 99% water and unscented

No natural rubber latex, chlorine, parabens, alcohol, perfumes, or prints

100% viscose from bamboo plant-based material

Embossed texture

On the pricier side

For babies who need extra consideration when it comes to their skin, Dyper Simply Kind Baby Wipes come to the rescue. You won’t find natural rubber latex, chlorine, parabens, alcohol, perfume, or prints in these baby wipes. Instead, this hypoallergenic and unscented option has only eight ingredients — one of which is 99% purified water. While some brands may use the word “sensitive” on their packaging just because, Dyper actually means its wipes are designed just for that.

These best baby wipes do have an embossed texture to better clean during diaper changes, however, it’s still a super-soft pick. The wipe is made of 100% viscose from bamboo plant-based material to be gentle on sensitive skin. It doesn’t get much simpler than that.

At $0.10 per wipe, this option is on the pricier side. And some buyers say it’s tough to remove one at a time from the pack, so it may be a two-hand situation. However, if your child has sensitive skin or has been experiencing allergies, it’s worth investing in a product that doesn’t pack in a slew of ingredients into each wipe.

Honest Clean Conscious Wipes  »

Disintegrates in eight weeks

USDA Certified Biobased product

Only has seven ingredients

Not tested on animals

Baby products can come with a lot of plastic wrapping that end up in the diaper pail, so parents might want to be more conscious about their environmental footprint. To cut down and be more eco-friendly, go with the Honest Clean Conscious Wipes. These plant-based wipes are compostable and disintegrate in just eight weeks, which is just as fast as a grapefruit peel.

Earning a Seal of Acceptance from the NEA, these best baby wipes only have seven ingredients and contain a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)-verified amount of renewable biological ingredients. They’re made without plastic, fragrance, parabens, or chlorine processing, and never tested on animals.

As added bonuses, Honest offers its wipes in seven sizes — ranging from 10 to 720 — and in a variety of fun patterned packaging, like rainbows, flowers, and black-and-white shapes. Parents say that the Honest baby wipes might be tricky to get out and they may get a bit dry, so be sure to close the lid in between uses to keep them as fresh as possible.

Honest Dry Wipes  »

Best Baby Wipes

Dry wipes to be dipped in water

Hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested

Made with 100% sustainably sourced organic cotton

No alcohol, parabens, fragrances, or chlorine processing

Not tested on animals and no animal by-products

Subscribe and save option available

Some pediatricians recommend holding off on introducing baby wipes into your diaper-changing routine and opting for cloths and water for newborns. If this is the route you plan to go and you still want a disposable option, check out Honest Dry Wipes. They were designed to be dipped in water for a safe approach to messes.

These dry wipes are made with 100% sustainably sourced organic cotton — that’s it, literally one ingredient. So you can be very confident that there’s no alcohol, parabens, fragrances, or chlorine lurking. Simply dip them in a little bowl of water at the changing station until you’re comfortable using regular wipes.

Another perk of dry wipes is that they’ll come in use for other things. Spills, spit-ups, and other messes are inevitable with a baby, so it’s smart to keep a pack in the diaper bag. They cost as much as other wipes on this list, so it’s not too costly of a decision to go the safe course. Just be aware that these dry wipes are on the smaller side.

Rascal + Friends Sensitive Baby Wipes  »

Best Baby Wipes

Made of thick, premium cloth

Embossed design

Designed to come out one at a time

Made with chamomile, aloe, and pomegranate extracts for soothing

No harsh chemicals, fragrance, parabens, phthalates, or alcohol

Not the softest

As much as we want wipes to be gentle on babies’ skin, we’d be lying if we said we didn’t want them to also be durable — changing a diaper is a messy job, after all. The Rascal + Friends Sensitive Baby Wipes can handle tough messes, as they’re made of thick, premium cloth that’s 25% stronger than its previous design. Plus, they have an embossed texture to help with cleanup and absorbency.

Since these best baby wipes are designed to really go to work, they might not be the softest option. However, the Rascal + Friends wipes are made with chamomile, aloe, and pomegranate extracts to help soothe your little one’s bottom. And the brand leaves the harsh chemicals, fragrance, parabens, phthalates, and alcohol behind.

At just $0.03 per wipe, this option is just as affordable as the Costco Kirkland Signature wipes, our best budget pick. Another perk is that these wipes are specifically designed to come out one at a time, so no more struggling to get one out when your hands are a bit, uh, dirty.

Charlie Banana Organic Cotton Wipes  »

Best Baby Wipes

Reusable and machine washable

Made from 100% organic cotton

Free of dyes and perfumes

9 inches by 9 inches

Edge-to-edge softness

Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified

Tag on each wipe

Expensive initial investment

To take your eco-friendly strategy to the next level, go the reusable baby wipes direction. The Charlie Banana Organic Cotton Wipes can be used over and over again, and cleanup is easy, as they can be tossed in the washing machine.

Just like the Honest Dry Wipes, our best for newborns pick, these reusable wipes are made of one singular ingredient: 100% organic cotton. They’re Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, meaning they’ve been tested for harmful substances to protect your health. These wipes are good for the environment and your baby. Each wipe measures in at 9 inches by 9 inches, so one per diaper change should get the job done.

These organic cotton wipes require an expensive investment upfront. However, when you consider that you’ll be using them repeatedly, unlike disposable wipes, you’ll get your money’s worth in no time. A slight annoyance is that each wipe has a bright blue tag on the edge, so you’ll probably want to avoid directly wiping there.

Pampers Sensitive Baby Wipes  »

Best Baby Wipes

Fragrance free and hypoallergenic

No alcohol, parabens, natural rubber latex, dyes, or perfume

Can be used on newborns, babies, and toddlers

Not the thickest

The good news is that all the best baby wipe options on this list are free of fragrance, but we’re giving a special nod to Pampers Sensitive Baby Wipes. The brand stresses that its wipes are hypoallergenic and made without alcohol, parabens, natural rubber latex, dyes, or perfume.

These wipes can be used on newborns and toddlers (and the baby stages in between). In fact, Pampers says that they’re as mild as a washcloth and water. While not the thickest option on the market, these Pampers wipes won’t scrunch up when you’re cleaning a tough mess. They’re also very soft to be conscious of your baby’s skin. Just be sure to shut the lid between uses, because these do have a tendency to dry out if you’re not on top of it.

We appreciate that these are an affordable option at just $0.05 per wipe. Plus, since Pampers is a household name among parents, you can easily find these wipes in a wide range of stores and online retailers. No more running out of a baby must-have!

Huggies Natural Care Sensitive Baby Wipes  »

Best Baby Wipes

EZPull 1-Handed Dispensing

Made of 99% purified water

No parabens or alcohol

Accepted by the NEA

Not the most eco-friendly option

Haven’t been tested to use in a wipe warmer

It may seem like a trivial thing, but try telling a parent who’s changing a diaper at 3 a.m. if being able to remove a wipe with just one hand isn’t a big consideration. The Huggies Natural Care Sensitive Baby Wipes feature EZPull 1-Handed Dispensing to help make sure only one wipe comes out at a time to prevent wasting them — or the need of using hands. That means you can use hand to secure your squirming baby and one hand to quickly grab a wipe.

Once you get it out, you have a hypoallergenic and fragrance-free wipe to clean up messes. These Huggies wipes have nine ingredients and are made of 99% purified water — no parabens or alcohol included. They’re accepted by the NEA, so you can trust that these best baby wipes can be used on sensitive skin.

If you have a wipe warmer on your baby shower registry, keep in mind that Huggies hasn’t tested these wipes in those devices. Also, Huggies doesn’t currently make biodegradable or compostable wipes, so this isn’t an eco-friendly pick. However, they’re an affordable option that won’t cause a headache during those middle-of-the-night diaper changes.

The Bottom Line

Just like with selecting the best diaper for your child, choosing the best baby wipes could be a process of trial and error. Although we worked to select options made without irritation-causing ingredients, such as fragrance, some babies’ skin may react differently than others to certain wipes. Once you’ve read through the ingredients list, the next thing to consider is how well the wipes can clean up messes by looking at thickness and wipe texture. Take our best overall pick, Coterie The Wipe, for example. This option is very thick and strong to minimize the number of wipes you need per diaper change. Of course, cost is a consideration, so you might want to go with a more inexpensive option. However, keep in mind that a cheaper wipe may mean using more wipes per diaper change. It’s all about deciding which factor is more important to you.

Things To Consider When Buying Baby Wipes

Ingredient Safety: Not all baby wipes are created equal, which is why you should take an in-depth look at what you’re planning to use on your child before you do.

“When looking for baby wipes, parents should be vigilant in reading the label. It can be a hassle but it's important to look for ingredients that can be harmful for their child,” says Dr. Hamdan Abdullah Hamed, a board-certified dermatologist. “Some ingredients that parents should stay away from are foaming agents like sodium lauryl sulfate, preservatives, parabens, alcohol, isopropyl myristate, and so on.”

Don’t forget to consider what the wipe itself is made of. Some wipes contain plastic and/or chlorine, which could cause irritation. “For those interested in completely eliminating exposure to toxins, it’s worth noting that even wipes that are labeled as being made from high percentages of water and/or natural fibers may have contents including plastics, preservatives like phenoxyethanol, parabens, traces of chlorine from processing, etc.,” says Katie Billingsley, CCC-SLP, CBS, feeding therapist and lactation consultant at Fourth Trimester Postnatal Retreat.

Skin Sensitivity Suitability: As your baby gets older, you might notice that regular wipes are too harsh on their skin. Or, to be safe, you might want to use wipes that were designed for sensitive skin right off the bat.

“A wet wipe contains three main elements: the cloth sheet, the formulation, and the package. Preservatives are necessary to prevent microbial growth,” explains Dr. Anthony Hudson, a pediatrician with Children's Hospital New Orleans. “In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not maintain a list of approved preservatives. The European Union maintains a list of approved preservatives such as: benzoic acid, sorbic acid, phenoxyethanol, and methylisothiazolinone. A wet wipe should contain pH buffers to maintain the slightly acidic pH of the skin and be free of potential irritants and preservatives.”

Look for wipes that are marked as “sensitive” or “hypoallergenic.” “These wipes may be specifically formulated to be gentle on delicate baby skin,” explains Billingsley. “However, it’s most important to not rely on marketing buzzwords and to check the ingredient list.”

Effectiveness: After knowing that a baby wipe is safe for your child’s skin, the next most important factor is that it cleans up messes effectively. The last thing you want is for the wipe to scrunch up as you’re cleaning your child’s bottom, and wipes can feel very differently from one another.

“The effectiveness of baby wipes can vary from brand to brand,” says Billingsley. “Some wipes may be thicker or more absorbent than others, which can affect how well they clean messes.”

Since baby wipes aren’t a costly investment, you can try various brands to ensure you’ve found the right fit for your baby. And don’t worry, any leftovers will be used up on other child-related messes.

Wipe Size and Thickness: Two of the things that make a baby wipe more effective than the next are size and thickness. Although a large wipe might seem like the obvious choice, you may feel like you’re wasting it when just cleaning up a wet diaper.

Instead of looking for a particularly large wipe for effectiveness, you could look for a thicker one. Typically, the thicker a baby wipe is, the less of them you’ll need during a diaper change. That’s because if the wipe is durable, you can easily fold it over and get more use out of it. The thickness also prevents the wipe from scrunching up and resulting in a different kind of mess.

“Thicker wipes tend to be more durable and better at cleaning up messes while larger wipes can cover more surface area with each wipe,” says Billingsley. “Consider your preferences and your baby's needs when choosing the right size and thickness for you.”

Textural Quality: “Textural quality can also vary between baby wipes. Some wipes may have a smoother texture while others may be more textured for better cleaning. Again, it's a matter of personal preference and what works best for your baby's skin,” says Billingsley.

Textured wipes are better for tough messes and can impact absorbency. However, your baby’s skin might not react well to an embossed texture, so it could be a trial-and-error situation. There are smooth wipes that may be a smarter starting point for newborns and babies with sensitive skin.

“Trust your instincts and don't hesitate to reach out to your pediatrician if you have any concerns about using baby wipes or your baby's skin health,” says Billingsley.

Skincare Benefits: Of course, the best baby wipes are beneficial for the skin in the way that they clean up diaper messes — and they’re handy to keep in the diaper bag for spit-ups and other accidents.

“Some baby wipes also contain vitamins and antioxidants that can help keep the skin hydrated. For example, aloe vera ingredients in baby wipes can promote smoother skin,” says Dr. Hamed. That hydration could help avoid diaper irritation, too.

Again, it comes back to checking the wipes’ ingredient list.

How We Chose the Best Baby Wipes

The best baby wipes are used on extremely sensitive areas, so our main focus here at U.S. News 360 Reviews was finding options that had minimal ingredients with a low risk of irritation. All of the wipes on our list are made without fragrance, so skin sensitivity was kept at top of mind. We consulted two physicians, Dr. Hamdan Abdullah Hamed, a board-certified dermatologist and Dr. Anthony Hudson, a pediatrician with Children's Hospital New Orleans, to speak about the safety and skin considerations. We also spoke with Katie Billingsley, CCC-SLP, CBS, a feeding therapist and lactation consultant at Fourth Trimester Postnatal Retreat , to provide real-world insight that parents can use as they shop for the best pick for them. Other considerations were ease of dispensing, size, softness, and price per wipe.

Caitlyn Fitzpatrick , the author of this piece, combines her professional and personal experience to expertly recommend the best baby products for parents. She has been researching, writing, and editing stories in the commerce space since 2017. Fitzpatrick’s expertise extends to baby must-haves, and she has covered the best diapers and  baby bathtubs and bath seats , among many other parenting stories for U.S. News 360 Reviews. With a little one at home, she understands how crucial it is to find quality products that do exactly what they say they’re going to do. Megan Wood , Senior Editor of Home Goods at U.S. News 360 Reviews, prefers wipes with clean ingredients for her daughter’s sensitive skin.

When you’re in the hospital with a newborn, your doctor or nurse might suggest only cleaning your little one’s bottom with cloth and water for a few weeks to avoid irritation. However, that might not be necessary. “Baby wipes are safe to use on baby's skin and oftentimes even a premature infant's skin,” says Dr. Hudson.

If you’d rather go the wipes route right away, look for ones that are designed for sensitive skin. “Always do a patch test on a small area of your baby's skin before using a new brand of wipes, just to be sure there's no adverse reaction,” suggests Billingsley.

“It's hard to give an exact number since every baby is different, but a good rule of thumb is to stock up on a few packs before your baby arrives,” says Billingsley. “You'll go through quite a few wipes in those early days, so having a stash on hand can be a lifesaver.”

Just like with every other aspect of your child’s life, you’ll notice patterns and get a sense of how many wipes you go through in a certain amount of time. Just make sure you have a healthy stock in the beginning so you’re not caught without.
