Ultimate Norway Expeditions
Norway is a country that demands to be explored rather than just seen, so we’ve designed the ultimate expedition cruise that really shows you the heart of Norway. New for January 2026, this unique adventure explores four regions above the Arctic Circle in winter. You’ll experience the glacial majesty of the Lyngen Alps, the dramatic beauty of the Lofoten Islands, the forested mountains of Vesterålen and the serenity of Senja. And as we sail, we’re not bound by a fixed itinerary – we’ll go where the best opportunities for activities and landings lie.
Adventures in the Frozen North
Heading above 66° North in winter means adventure. With your experienced Expedition Team, you’ll explore wild islands and deep fjords and venture to remote places where few people ever set foot.
Meet rarely visited communities and search for whales, eagles and other wildlife.
With a wide range of expedition equipment on board, you could don snowshoes and head off the beaten track into the snowy wilderness or hop in a kayak to explore a fjord up close.
Uniquely Norwegian Experiences
On this unique voyage, you’ll truly live the Norwegian life, and come to understand friluftsliv – a deeply-held love of the great outdoors.
Enjoy uniquely Norwegian experiences exclusive to HX guests.
Find yourself taking a breathtaking polar plunge and Nordic sauna, sampling traditional delicacies around a roaring beach bonfire, and walking through history on an evening at the Hurtigruten Museum.
Spotting the Northern Lights
Winter in Norway is a special time. When the soft sun sets, the Northern Lights put on a mesmerising performance and our ship becomes a floating observatory.
We‘re skilled at seeking out these cosmic lights and our onboard photographer will teach you how to capture the best shots.
With 7 days spent entirely above the Arctic Circle, the conditions are perfect to witness the Northern Lights. We even offer our guests a Northern Lights Promise .
A winter wonderland
On our Norway cruises, you’ll explore deep blue fjords up close, venture into the snowy wilderness and set foot on wild isles where peace and nature rule.

Adventures into the Heart of Norway
At HX, we have a long history of sailing Norway’s coast that stretches back to the nineteenth century. We’ll show you our country’s rugged and beautiful nature as you jump in a kayak, cruise aboard small expedition boats, pull on snowshoes, or hike through the wilderness* – but that’s not all. As our guest, we’ll also give you some extra-special adventures, exclusively designed to bring you closer to Norway’s nature and heritage.
Day to Dusk – Flames and Flavours
Enjoy a magical evening on a remote landing site. Take a nature hike as the last of the day's birdsong whispers through the trees or slip into a kayak for a peaceful paddle. Once the sun sets, we’ll gather around a bonfire, sample Norwegian delights and indulge in some traditional storytelling.
Nordic Sauna and Polar Plunge
Let nature revitalise you with our exclusive Nordic Sauna and Polar Plunge experience in a beautiful fjord. You’ll feel your stress melt away in the sauna as the steam wraps you with its soothing warmth, then take a thrilling plunge in the cool Norwegian sea. Afterwards, as you warm up again, you’ll feel more alive than ever!
Dinner at the Museum
Experience Norway’s fascinating coastal heritage during an evening at the famed Hurtigrutenmuseet. You’ll have exclusive after-hours access to explore this unique setting at your leisure and enjoy a special dinner. Take a walk through the full-sized ship MS Finnmarken and listen to tales from former sailors and passengers, bringing coastal history to life.
* Please note that these are optional activities; an additional cost may apply.
Rare wildlife
Norway is a place where you can see whales, dolphins and many seabirds. The best time for spotting whales above the Arctic Circle is in January.
Wildlife in Norway
From the Eagles above, to the nomadic reindeer on land and whales along the coast, Norway is home to a wealth of wildlife. In winter, humpbacks and orcas can sometimes be spotted in the waters north of Tromsø.
Natural phenomena
Above the Arctic Circle, you’ll have a greater chance of seeing the Northern Lights illuminate Norway’s skies in winter. This is the time of year when the country is bathed in soft light and the snowy landscapes glimmer under starlight.
Expedition Ships to Norway
Your stylish expedition ship, MS Spitsbergen, is ideal for navigating the Norwegian fjords and exploring closer to shore. Smaller than many, MS Spitsbergen can venture where others can’t, giving you a true expedition experience.
MS Spitsbergen is named after the crown jewel of Arctic Norway – the Svalbard archipelago and its biggest island, Spitsbergen. Hurtigruten has a long history of travelling to Spitsbergen, beginning in 1896 with the 'Sports Route'.
Supporting the community
When you travel with us, you’ll also be supporting local communities. The HX Foundation contributes to restoration projects in Norway, such as the upgrading of the North Cape Steps and the replenishment of the native underwater kelp forests along the coast.
Stories from Norway
While most are drawn to Norway for its famous fjords and glorious mountains, many are thrilled to discover a range of wildlife thriving in its waters, skies, and hillsides.

WELCOME TO THE ICE AGE
Set off for the north to see the sparsely populated, mountainous country of Norway. Among the thousands of pristine lakes, isolated islands and stunning fjords, you'll feel like you've stepped back into the Ice Age.
THE JEWELS OF THE NORTH
Norway is famous for its fjords, the narrow, steep-sided inlets formed by retreating glaciers at the end of the Ice Age. Head to Geiranger to see Europe's highest fjord, or explore Molde's 12-mile fjord that winds through the archipelago. No matter how you choose to ford the fjords, you'll see why Norway is known for these natural wonders.
SAVOR THE SEA
Different parts of Norway offer unique specialties and tasty delicacies. Most dishes include fish and seafood straight from the sea, but you can head to Naboen Pub and Restaurant in Bergen or Dovrehallen in Oslo for meat dishes featuring mutton, beef or reindeer. Try pancakes stuffed with bacon, sour cream and lingonberry jam, or warm up with a creamy fish soup.
HIGH UP HIDEAWAYS
In Norway, you're never far from the natural world. Cruise to Norway to hike or bike the many trails of Mold e to see views of 222 mountain peaks, or trek along the Geiranger Skywalk to see aerial views of glaciers below. In Stavanger, hike up the well-marked paths to the impressive cliff of Prekestol, or simply enjoy the tranquility and quietness of Flam Valley .
ANCIENT HISTORY, MODERN CHARM
From the old city quarters to the modern architecture, Norwegian towns off wonderful sights. Take a stroll to Oslo's Opera House for a view of its striking design, or shop for trendy Scandinavian souvenirs in the streets of Bergen. You'll be in heaven no matter where you go with Norway cruises.
GAMBLE ON GAMLEBYEN
Explore the remains of medieval Oslo in Gamlebyen (Old Town), and admire the charming wooden houses. In Bergen, wander alongside the wharf and through the narrow alleyways of Bryggen, the oldest part of Bergen founded in 1070. Here you'll walk amongst colorful UNESCO-listed wooden buildings, preserved or rebuilt in their original Medieval style.
PIRATES AHEAD
Travel to the southern city of Kristiansand to visit the picturesque Christiansholm Fortress, built in the 17th century on the seaside promenade in the city center. Walk along five-meter-thick walls, built to protect the city from pirate assaults. In Oslo, don't miss the Akerhus Castle and Fortress built in 1299, which has also functioned as a royal residence and a prison. You'll find history everywhere you look during your Norway vacation.
SCANDINAVIAN SOUVENIRS
In Norway's larger cities, like Oslo and Bergen, you can go shopping in big malls and department stores, but there are also many small boutiques, antique shops and markets all throughout the country. The small trendy design stores are stocked with gifts and souvenirs like Norwegian brown cheese or knitted sweaters. In the smaller towns, you'll often find unique shops with handmade crafts like Viking drinking horns.
THERE'S NOR-WAY YOU'LL WANT TO MISS THIS
Enjoy the impressive views of the steep mountainsides, flowing waterfalls and narrow valleys of the Norwegian countryside. Immerse yourself in the local culture by admiring the colorful wooden houses and medieval ruins and indulging in the fresh regional cuisine. When you visit Norway, you'll find like you've entered a whole new world.
FJORD FOR DAYS
Originally a Norwegian word describing a narrow inlet formed within a glacial valley, the term "fjord" has since gone international. Norway is home to no less than 1,000 fjords, so be sure to check out the country via these winding waterways. Admire the Geirangerfjord in Geiranger , the Aurlandsfjord in Flam or the Lustrafjord in Skjolden for a heavenly view.
NORTHERN EXPEDITIONS
While you're in the region, why not explore some other Northern European cities? Norway's neighboring countries, such as Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland , each have their unforgettably unique characteristics, so be sure to relax in Reykjavik , Iceland's geothermal spa surrounded by volcanic vistas, or stroll through the stylish Swedish capital, built across 14 islands.
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO Prepare for Nordic Adventure
As an Arctic wonder, Norway offers adventure, attractions and charm all year round.
If you visit the country in the summer, you'll avoid the chilly temperatures, you'll be able to witness the Midnight Sun and will find that more attractions are open. In winter, however, you'll be able to see a northern wonderland covered in a magical layer of snow, which you can enjoy by snow shoeing, skiing or snowboarding. Between late September and late March, it's dark from early afternoon until late morning, and this is the best time to see the Northern Lights.
No matter what season you decide to visit, just remember the Norwegian saying, "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes." While the climate between different areas of the country varies widely, the Norwegian winters are long and cold in general. If you wear the right clothes, though, you'll be just fine.

Fjord Cruise & Train
Self-drive tours, guided small group, northern lights, lofoten islands, hurtigruten cruises, what do our customers say.
The reviews speak for themselves. See what Nordic Visitor travellers said about their experience with us.
The tour was perfect and went smoothly the entire time. Communication from Nordic Visitor was timely and detailed. Would book with this tour company again.
Memories we'll cherish forever
We found Norway to be a fabulous country and enjoyed every minute of our trip. The scenery was fantastic, the places visited were brilliant and the people were incredibly friendly and helpful. The information pack provided by Nordic Visitor was invaluable, the route chosen for us was superb and the places we stayed in were great. Likewise, the excursions offered, especially the Rib Safari were fantastic and gave us memories we'll cherish forever. Lastly, but by no means least, Irja, our travel consultant, couldn't have been more helpful and I would like to extend a huge thank you to her for all that she did.
Unforgettable in so many ways
It was unforgettable in so many ways, highlights after highlights. We knew to expect a lot after our trip to Iceland a couple of years ago, also organised by Nordic Visitor. Our expectations were exceeded and more. We saw northern lights three times, the food everywhere was excellent, experienced dog sledding in the moonlight and sleeping in the SnowHotel, and we saw a white reindeer! How lucky we are to have experienced all that. We have now returned home, happy and full of awe.
A great experience
Very well-organised tour and a great experience. Nordic Visitor were very professional and their experience was evident in choosing the well-located and comfortable accommodation they selected for us. Best of all we got to see the northern lights!
Incredibly happy!
Our travel agent, Małgorzata, was amazing to work with! She was able to add a few extra days in Oslo and arranged transportation via train to Bergen. Overall, I thought booking this vacation online and making payments was seamless. All the hotels we stayed in were nice, clean and safe! We loved the breakfast buffets, they were top notch! Also, collecting our rental car and navigating in a foreign country was seamless. We are incredibly happy that our tour package that we received at our first hotel included a physical map that had our tour highlighted.
I'll be recommending Nordic Visitor to my friends
The trip was really amazing. We had an absolutely superb time in Tromsø; hotel and excursions were spot on. The guide and whole the staff was really professional. Professional photos taken by the guide were really fantastic. They gave us excellent care, more than what we have experienced on any trip. Our favourite experience was the snowmobile, but catamaran trip was great too. Certainly I will be recommending it to my friends. I was very pleased that those who delivered the services showed a lot of professionalism.
Very satisfied customer
This was my second experience using Nordic Visitor. I am a very satisfied customer. A few years ago we did a self-drive tour of Iceland that was just amazing. This time we did a train/cruise combo tour of Norway. Once again, I can only say you will have a fantastic experience and you will appreciate the labuor of organising and planning being handled by experts who know what they are doing. The cruises through the fjords were beautiful as were the train trips. We loved the combination of train and boat travel as each offered distinct beauty from a different perspective. The country is truly lovely and we look forward to booking future travel with Nordic Visitor!
Extraordinary!
Extraordinary! Everything went off as planned without a hitch. Our travel guide, Juliana, was exceptional, very responsive in answering our questions and providing updates.
Very satisfied with Nordic Visitor
We were very satisfied with the tour and overall experience with Nordic Visitor. The hotels were strategically chosen and the quality of hotels was satisfactory. The optional tours were also highly recommended. Timings of the schedules throughout the tour were ideal and not rushed.
Best vacation we ever had!
Our family of 5 (3 adult children) loved our Norway fjord tour. We saw the most beautiful scenery and loved each hotel. The food was delicious. Something for everyone. Our guide Al and driver Chris kept things running smoothly. We will have memories to last a lifetime. Thank you Nordic Visitor. Best vacation we ever had!
An excellent decision to book with Nordic Visitor
Following research, we decided to book with Nordic Visitor. This was an excellent decision. The booking process was easy and informative and Hanna was always available for guidance. The accommodation provided was top class and, importantly, convenient to the train stations from which we travelled. Our tour was amazing throughout with stunning scenery and sights.
The tour gives you a fabulous overview of Norway!
The tour gives you a fabulous overview of Norway. We did a lot of travel in between sights but this enabled us to have a real breadth of experience, from fjords to mountain passes, railway adventures and small boats. Our tour guide was excellent and the sights and experiences outlined for us were top-notch. The materials provided about our tour were excellent and well thought out.

Must-Sees - Norwegian Fjords
Superb glaciers, towering mountains and traditional towns offer fabulous panoramas and unusual places to visit during a Norwegian fjord cruise . You still need to select excursions to show you the very best of the region. Here's our shortlist of unmissable destinations.
Essential Norwegian Fjords
Before you set off on a cruise through the Norwegian fjords — great places to see rich fauna and stunning natural scenery — here is some useful and unusual information. The trip will soon be an even more attractive prospect!
Explore Norwegian fjords
Fjords: should you head north or south?
Meet the Sami
Admire stunning views from the tourist train
The Flamselvi River flows at various speeds through the middle of a green valley and between houses with coloured roofs dotted along the riverbanks. Waterfalls hurtle down steep slopes. From the tourist train which links Flam and Myrdal and climbs to over 860 metres, the views are amazing: each as extraordinary as the last. Using a second train, you can reach the charming town of Voss, passing by spectacular scenery including precipices and high waterfalls. Unforgettable photos are a given.
Explore the Geiranger Fjord
A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005, the Geiranger Fjord is one of the most famous in Norway. Walking around this fjord, enjoy being in total harmony with the impressive and yet comfortingly calm natural surroundings. Some of the falls that end their frenetic journeys in the Geiranger Fjord are also some of the best-known in the region, like the Seven Sisters , the Suitor and the Bridal Veil.
Kayak in the Naeroyfjord
The Naeroyfjord is a Norwegian fjord that is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoying its beauty from a kayak on the water remains a special experience. The impressive surrounding mountains, and the waterfalls and rivers that throw themselves into the fjord create breathtaking panoramas and contribute to its splendour.
Hike near the Briksdal Glacier
A Norwegian cruise gives you the chance to explore natural wonders that are totally unique. Part of the Jostedal, Europe's biggest glacier, the Briksdal Glacier only adds to the enchanting Norwegian fjord scenery. Rising up 1,200 metres, the jagged white and blue ice moves down the valley. A 3 km walk gives you the opportunity to admire its full beauty and extent.
Sail on the Lysefjorden
Lysefjorden is famous among all adventurers. The toughest climb the 4,444 wooden Flørli stairs. Risk takers have photos taken on Kjerag , which is famous for its rock stuck between two rocky walls. Others prefer to get close to the edge of the 600-metre Preikestolen cliff. However, Lysefjorden is just as impressive from its crystalline waters. Cliffs, waterfalls and green mountains captivate visitors.
Walk around Alesund
The town is by the water and seems to melt into the hills on the horizon. Alesund on Norway's west coast is an attractive place with paved alleys, canals and Art Nouveau buildings. The decoration and paint on the facades make the town special, after it was devastated by a fire in 1904 and rebuilt to meet " Jugendstil " regulations: a unique architectural style.
Visit the Bryggen area of Bergen
Although Bergen is the second biggest city in Norway, in our imaginations it retains the feel of a northern medieval village. Images of Bryggen 's coloured wooden houses by the port stay in the memory. This district, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, has made an impact on the country's history and even more so on that of the North Sea. From the 14th century, the port joined the Hanseatic League set up by the Germans with regional trading posts up to the Baltic Sea. At that time, the Bryggen area was exclusively for German merchants. It would be a shame to miss out on this charming district before leaving for the fjords.
Dos. Although the Norwegians shake hands to greet each other, they are quick to use informal language.
Don'ts. Civic-mindedness is a cornerstone of life in Norwegian society. Special favours are banned, you sincerely thank anyone you speak to (whether they are a friend or a stranger), you don't queue-jump and there are street patrols to prevent conflict.
Unique features
What if getting rid of all time constraints were the real luxury? The municipal council on Sommarøy Island in the very north of Norway near Trosmo has asked the government to ban time in the summer! This initiative isn't as crazy as it sounds when you realise that the sun doesn't set here for 69 days during midsummer. According to some locals, watches and timetables have actually been got rid of already, meaning it's not uncommon to see children playing and people swimming or mowing the lawn during what's supposed to be night-time.
Essential phrases
Hello / Good evening: Hallo Goodbye: Ha det Welcome: Velkommen Excuse me / Please: Unnskyld meg / Vær så snill Thank you: Tusen takk Yes / No: Ja / Nei My name is...: Jeg heter...
The element of Norwegian cuisine that we are most familiar with is smoked salmon. Although the fish is often prominent on people's plates here, lamb is also well-loved. The animals are reared locally in the fresh air and provide high-quality meat, especially for pinnekjøtt : a rack of lamb or mutton salted in brine or seawater and served at Christmas. Brunost , a brown cheese with a caramel flavour, is also widely eaten.
Myths & legends
Trolls are found again and again in Norse mythology and first appeared in the Middle Ages. These myths were a key part of the Viking religion until Scandinavia's Christianisation. Trolls were most often associated with hostile natural environments foreign to people like oceans, mountains and forests. They therefore symbolised natural forces and the difficulties of living in society, and were fear-inspiring. For example, they were blamed for kidnapping women and children.
In the spotlight
To remove the need for local ferries to come and go between eight of the fjords and to open up a fast road on its west coast, Norway is looking into a huge and innovative floating tunnel and bridge project . This would suit certain large fjords where features like conventional tunnels and suspension bridges can't be built.
Books. Through portraits of four generations of women, A Hundred Years is an example of autobiographical fiction which combines and untangles stories, tragedies and family taboos. Herbjørg Wassmo also depicts the hard lives and combative natures of these mothers with so many more and less wanted children in Nordland: the northernmost region in Norway.
Music. Native to northern Norway and Scandinavia, the Sámi people have long been repressed by successive governments. Their language and culture were only recognised in 1988. For a few years, joik traditional Sámi music has been seeing a renaissance and becoming popular. Young Sámi singers like Marja Mortensson and Elle Márjá Eira pair these emotional and nostalgic songs with contemporary and electronic music.
Film. Directed by Arne Skouen in 1957, Nine Lives is inspired by real events during World War Two. Jan Baalsrud is the only survivor on his ship after a German military attack off the Norwegian coast. Hunted by the Nazis, he tries to reach Sweden: a neutral country in the conflict. Throughout the story, magnificent landscapes are shown: snowy mountains, white plains, fjords and icy cliffs.
Facts and figures
Sognefjord is one of the biggest fjords in Norway, covering 204 kilometres . This makes it the longest in Europe and the second longest in the world after Scoresby Sund in Greenland. With an average width of 4.5 kilometres , it is also the widest fjord in Norway. Its depth varies between 100 and 1,308 metres .

Sights to see during a Norway cruise
There is a lot to discover in the towns along the Norwegian coast. After arriving at the Lysefjord, you can hike on the 600 metre high Preikestolen and enjoy the breathtaking views of the fjord and the surrounding mountains from above. If you are looking for a special thrill, you can dare a basejump here. In the Oslofjord , on the other hand, the capital city with its museums attracts visitors. The Bygdøy Peninsula is home to the Norwegian Maritime Museum - Norsk Maritime Museum - and the Vikingskipshuset Museum with Viking ships from the 9th century. The 371-metre-high Holmenkollen mountain offers a magnificent view of the fjord and the city , The time-honoured ski jumping facility is not only known to Winter sports enthusiasts. In the associated ski museum, you can also learn about the history of Winter sports in Norway - and especially in Oslo. --> Oslo cruises
If your cruise ship takes you on a journey through the unique Norwegian fjord landscape in Flåm , you should not miss a trip on the Flåm Railway. Along the route you can enjoy beautiful views of the mountains and the train stops at the mighty Kjosfossen waterfall for a photo stop.
If you’re a nature lover, you're in the right place on a Norway cruise anyway. With a little luck, in the evening in Tromsø you will be able to watch the special plays of light in the sky as the Northern Lights illuminate the night. If you want to travel against the midnight sun, the Norway cruise is just as exciting for you. In Honningsvåg - the northernmost point of Europe - drive to the North Cape . There you can find an informative visitor centre or you can head to the bird cliff near Gjesværstappan, where countless puffins, cormorants and gannets can be admired. --> North Cape cruises
The Lofoten islands, offshore to the Norwegian mainland offers one thing: peace and solitude. Here you can go fishing or hike on one of the more than 50 islands. At the same time you can also visit the Lofotr Viking Museum , paddle a kayak tour to the secluded coves or discover old fishing villages. --> Lofoten cruises
A unique nature experience is a visit to the Arctic islands of Spitsbergen , where you can observe not only polar bears on guided tours, but also a variety of animals that have adapted to the freezing weather. An absolute highlight are hot air balloon rides. From lofty heights, you will not only see your cruise ship at anchor, but you will also be able to admire the natural beauties from a bird's eye view much better. --> Spitsbergen cruises
Not to be forgotten is also the Nordland region - the gateway to the North of Norway. The region lies above the Arctic Circle and is the beginning of the North of Norway. Here you can expect an incredible, beautiful landscape with a cultural, mystical and historical background. Clear lakes, breathtaking panoramic views and fabulous mountains that create a magical atmosphere, can be found here as far as the eye can see.
When trolls dance through fjords and the northern lights shine
There is something mystical about spending the Summer evenings on your cruise ship in one of Norway's many fjords and looking up to the sky. There are rarely stars to see, because the further North you come, the shorter the nights. At the North Cape, the sun does not set any more between late May and mid-July. This unique natural spectacle is hard to beat and yet the colourful, often blue-green coloured northern lights - Aurora Borealis - are certainly just as spectacular. You can see them especially well in the Spring and Autumn times as no ships visit Norway in the Winter.
Most Norway cruises offer a stop in the famous Geiranger Fjord . Get off the ship in Hellesylt and go kayaking on a discovery tour of the UNESCO World Heritage. Almost vertically falling waterfalls are fed by the snow-capped mountain peaks. And with the appropriate position of the sun, the cascades of the " Seven Sisters " provide a rainbow-like illumination of the rocks. On a spectacular trip over the Trollstigen you drive on a mountain road that winds along the steep cliffs and provides unique views on the way. At the same time, you can get an idea of the amount of work involved in road construction at this point in 1936.
In Bergen, the second largest city in Norway, stroll comfortably against the backdrop of the old harbour front Bryggen - also called Tyskebryggen - past small shops, restaurants and museums. All this once housed the old trading offices of the Hanseatic League. Visit the Hanseatic Landungsbrücken, evidence of Bergen's flourishing business with the world. --> Bergen cruises
During a trip to the stave church Fantoft you will get to know the special architectural style of these buildings, which were built entirely of wood and without a single screw. The stave church here was modelled on the original building from 1150, after it was completely burned down. Originally the church stood in the Sognefjord and was moved to Fantoft in 1883, where it fell victim to the flames in 1992.
In southeastern Norway Ålesund the unique natural landscape and the special architecture meet. Allow yourself a view of the city and the sea from the viewpoints on Aksla, the city hill of Ålesund. The Fjellstua and Kniven observation decks are within walking distance of more than 400 steps from the Stadtpark or can be easily reached by tram. Below them is the city with small offshore islands and opposite the Sunnmøre Alps .
On an excursion to the Alnes lighthouse in the fishing village of the same name, you will get to know Norway's lighthouse construction and you will be able to hear some of the history of the Vikings, who once were masters of the Northern seas.
For those who, in addition to all the breathtaking nature, still fancy a big-city feeling should pay a visit to Trondheim. The 11th-century Gothic Nidaros Cathedral is sure to captivate every visitor. For a shopping stroll and a cozy coffee, there are various shops and cafes. Enjoy the nature and the history of Scandinavia marked by the Vikings and sailors during your Norway cruise.

Norway Cruise Highlights
Norwegian fjords.
Nature buffs and adventure seekers can’t miss seeing the stunning Norwegian fjords during their cruise. Bergen is a great jumping-off point to see fjords like Hardangerfjord, the country’s second-largest fjord. UNESCO World Heritage Site Geirangerfjord is known as the “crown jewel” of the country’s fjords, contrasting steep waterfalls with snow-peaked mountain caps. Go slightly off-the-beaten path to neighboring Hjørundfjord, where activities like fjord fishing and kayaking will captivate you.
Art & History
Explore Oslo’s famous Viking Ship Museum and see three expertly preserved vessels. Spend a while at the Munch Museum, dedicated to the painter Edvard Munch, known best for his painting “The Scream.” In Bergen, Bryggens Museum is a mighty testament to life in the town before a devastating fire in 1955, where excavations uncovered beautiful reminders of everyday Norwegian life. Bergen is also home to its own art museum that uniquely preserves the homes of famous composers throughout history. Time travel at Sunnmøre Museum in Alesund, an open-air exhibit featuring preserved homes and boats dating back to medieval times.
Craft Breweries
Norway’s distilleries and craft microbrewing scene is rapidly growing in cities like Bergen and Alesund. After decades of mostly serving lagers, microbrewers around the country wanted to offer more variety for beer drinkers, so they started to brew their own IPAs, pale ales, and stouts. Ever since, Norway’s cities have brewed hundreds of their own unique drafts. Unwind after a day’s hike and try something new on the menu.
Featured Ports
Bergen, norway.
Rows of deep red, burnt orange, and white houses near Bryggen Wharf is one of the top sights in the city. Enjoy a romantic wharfside meal or a cozy coffee there before you visit Bryggens Museum or St. Mary’s Church. Ride a funicular rail to the summit of Mt. Norwegian Fjords Cruises

Cruises from Bergen
Bergen is an arrival and departure point for many cruise ships on their way to Northern Europe. This includes cruises to Norway and the Norwegian fjords, as well as Scandinavia and the Baltic. Cruise lines including Viking Cruises, and others all provide departures from Bergen.
Bergen is a destination that should be on the itinerary of each cruise through Norway due to its alluring setting in the middle of Fjord Norway. Around 330 cruise ships make port visits in Bergen each year, bringing in a total of more than 600,000 cruise passengers. Cruise passengers frequently stop at Bergen on their way to or from the Norwegian fjords. Skolten Cruise Port, also known as Vagen Harbor, is where smaller cruise ships dock when they arrive in Bergen, whereas Dokken Port, located next to the Fish Market, is where the larger cruise ships land.
Bergen, Norway
The Bergen Card is available for either 24 or 48 hours and grants the holder free rides on the city’s buses and Bybanen (Bergen’s light railway) as well as free or subsidized admission to a wide variety of museums and attractions. Beginning your exploration of Bergen’s rich cultural scene with a stroll around the city’s ancient Bryggen neighborhood is a great way to get started. This section of the town runs parallel to the harbor and was a major center of trade back in the 17th century. These days, it is filled with plenty of quaint museums and cafes, and it is famous for the brilliantly colored buildings that line its streets.
Aside from that, the Bergen Art Museum is home to some of the most impressive works of art in the entirety of Norway, and the Buergen Kunst Museum features artworks by the likes of Picasso, Munch, and Miro, in addition to a large number of works by local artists.
Bergen’s Seven Mountains
The Seven Mountains, which surround the city of Bergen, hold a special place in local lore and are a symbol of the region’s reverence for nature. Hiking in the varying mountainous and forested terrain that surrounds Bergen is a popular pastime. The mountains provide not just wide hiking pathways for people of varying levels of fitness but also breathtaking views of the city and its surroundings. You can choose from a variety of activities, from a casual 15-minute stroll in the sun to more challenging ones like day hikes and steep inclines. There are many more than seven mountains in the Bergen area, but these are the ones most often thought of as the “official seven.” They are: Ulriken, Flyen (sometimes called Flyfjellet), Lvstakken, Damsgrdsfjellet, Sandviksfjellet, Lyderhorn, and Rundemanen.
If you don’t feel like making the ascent on foot, you can always take the cable car from the city center up to the peak. The most popular peak is Mount Fyen, which can be reached from the city via the Flibanen Funicular, though the fitter among us are more likely to choose the 40-minute hike. From the top, you can see the fjords and the shoreline as you make your way to the other mountains, such as Mount Rundemanen and Mount Ulriken. The Ulriken cable car is conveniently accessible via regular bus service and the seasonal sightseeing bus.
Norwegian Fjords, Baltic and Scandinavia cruise from Bergen
No matter which route you choose to take on your cruise through Northern Europe, you will see recognizable sites and scenery along the way. There are a variety of fascinating cruises available around Northern Europe that are suitable for almost any traveler. Find cruises to destinations such as Norway’s Fjords, the Baltic Sea, and Scandinavia that depart from the cruise terminal in Bergen and choose the best itinerary.
Norway and Norwegian Fjords
Bergen is also a great place to start a cruise up Norway’s west coast toward the North Cape to the land of midnight sun and majestic Northern lights . Those embarking on cruises from Bergen can visit places like Stavanger , Haugesund , Olden , Flam , Alesund , Trondheim , Leknes , Eidfjord , Honningsvag , Kristiansand , Geiranger , Hellesylt , the Lofoten Islands , and many more. Most visitors come to see the fjords, two of which—the Geirangerfjord and the Nærøyfjord —are on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The longest fjord is Sognefjord , and the Hardangerfjord is well-known for its cherry and apple trees. Nordfjorden is the sixth-longest fjord in Norway, so it’s no surprise that it also attracts many cruise ships.
Denmark , Germany , Poland , Lithuania, Latvia , Estonia , Russia, Finland , and Sweden are the nine countries that are located on either side of the Baltic Sea. It is easy to arrange a cruise from Bergen with stop to any of the Baltic capitals, such as Helsinki , Tallinn , Riga , Stockholm , or St. Petersburg. There are also stops in Baltic Sea cities like Kiel , Warnemunde , Gdansk , Muuga , Klaipeda , and Visby . on routes that leave from Bergen.
Scandinavia
The term Scandinavia in local usage covers the three kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. The cruise may make stops in many locations in Scandinavia, including Copenhagen, Aarhus , Skagen , Gothenburg , and Helsingborg .
