Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats UK tour on sale now

Nathaniel and the Night Sweats have announced a UK tour to promote their third album together, ‘ The Future ‘. The tour will include five UK cities and will kick off in May 2022. ‘ The Future ‘ is out now on Stax Records and can be streamed via your favourite device or bought on CD and LP in your local record shop. Rateliff has been on the Denver scene for close to a decade and has been gathering an international fanbase with the band The Night Sweats since 2013. Having been guests on Later with Jools Holland, the band played their new single ‘ Redemption ‘ on Saturday Night Live after it was used in the Americana film ‘Palmer’. The second single ‘ Survivor ‘ was reviewed by our staff here .

The tour has been extended to include an extra date at Roundhouse in London due to its popularity.

Play London’s Roundhouse 27th May Third Studio Album   The Future  Out now on Stax Records

Following the release of their acclaimed new LP,  The Future ,  Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats  have announced a run of May 2022 UK dates, including a date at London’s Roundhouse on 27th May.  The Future  is out now on Stax Records

Recorded at Rateliff’s own Broken Creek Studio outside of Denver,  The Future  was produced by Bradley Cook (Bon Iver, Kevin Morby, The War on Drugs) and R.M.B.—the production trio of Rateliff, Patrick Meese (The Night Sweats) and James Barone (Beach House)—who were the team behind Rateliff’s acclaimed 2020 solo album  And It’s Still Alright . Additional production was added by musician, engineer and producer Elijah Thompson (Father John Misty, Richard Swift) while Jenny Lewis, Jess Wolfe and Amelia Meath (Sylvan Esso) contributed backing vocals.

Earlier this year, Rateliff and the band made their debut on “Saturday Night Live” featuring the premiere performance of “Redemption,” written for and featured in the film Palmer starring Justin Timberlake. Nathaniel also released a new live album,  Red Rocks 2020 , which was recorded at Red Rocks Amphitheatre during Rateliff’s mid-September run of socially distanced shows.

Known for their raucous, electric live shows, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats will play the following May 2022 shows in the UK.  Tickets available on the 19th November at 10am from  HERE .

The Eventim Apollo is on Queen Caroline Street, W6, directly opposite the Broadway Shopping Centre.

The Eventim Apollo does not have any parking spaces and we would advise all customers not to drive and park in the surrounding areas, due to it being mostly residential. Please also note that theft from cars in the area is high, so again it is advisable not to park in the vicinity of the venue. The nearest 24-hour car park is located behind the Kings Mall and accommodates 176 cars. As the car park is 24-hours it can be entered at any point and cars can be collected anytime. Novotel London West, located 3 to 5 minutes walk from the Apollo offers great and secured car park facilities. Up to 240 bays are available on a first come first served basis. Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats Set to Return to the UK in June

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats have plotted their triumphant return to the UK and Europe.

Set to make landfall this summer, the ensemble's run of shows in the UK will include stops at London's Eventim Apollo, Manchester's Albert Hall, the O2 Academy in Glasgow, Barbican in York, Bristol's SWX and The Wulfrun at the Halls Wolverhampton.

On their last UK visit, following the release of their acclaimed 2021 album, The Future , the band delivered two sold-out performances at London’s Roundhouse.

Made up of Rateliff (vocals, guitar), Joseph Pope III (bass), Pat Meese (drums, percussion, keys), Luke Mossman (guitar), Mark Shusterman (organ, keys), Andreas Wild (saxophone), Daniel Hardaway (trumpet) and Jeff Dazey (saxophone), the outfit will also take the stage across several European countries while overseas, including Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, and more.

Taking part in a variety of international music festivals across the summer, fans will be able to catch the band at the Main Square Festival in France, Pikinik I Parken Festival in Norway, Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands, Nos Alive in Portugal and Mad Cool Festival in Spain, among others.

After serving as support for beloved entertainer City & Colour across Canada, Rateliff will be hosting a pair of special solo shows at the Boettcher Concert Hall in Denver, CO, which will include performances of the Leonard Cohen songbook backed by a full orchestra.

Before the year's end, the Missouri native and his backing band will also appear as special guests alongside Kentucky crooner Tyler Childers in Washington and Montana come August.

At some point throughout their touring trek, the ensemble have also teased that their forthcoming record will be released, with fans on the road getting the first chance to hear the new material.

From one extreme to the other, the man who had found comfort in solitary performances for years, was not only surrounded by the six-piece Sweats, but also by the seven-piece New Orleans’ Preservation Hall Jazz Band (who had decided to stick around after their opening set for Yonder Mountain the night before). A colossal circus of horns marched out in front of Stage Rock, with the Night Sweats following close behind. With the brass wind at his back, Nathaniel Rateliff returned home on his knees. Dressed all in black (from his hat, all the way down to his boots), with arms outstretched to gather all the love coming his way, Rateliff looked up at the venue like he was seeing it for the first time. Then he channeled all that love into his newfound James Brown persona.

“Good evening everybody!”

Strands of discrete white lighting bounced off saxophones, and trumpets, and even a sousaphone, as New Orleans’ best paid tribute to Colorado’s best. There was something almost religious about what was happening on that stage. Rateliff played the part of a manic preacher who would just as soon send you straight to hell as he would lift you up to the gates of heaven. When he hit those throaty, guttural notes during “I’ve Been Failing”, it sent shivers down my spine. When his feet started to stomp along with the dual percussion of “Look It Here”, I couldn’t control my own extremities from following along. The tambourine came out at one point, and while he beat it against the slip-sliding, kicking-and-screaming legs below him, his perfectly manicured beard stayed steady in front of the microphone, as if it weren’t connected to the rest of his body. Seriously, with the dancing skills that man possesses, I don’t know how he stood still on a stage for all those years before The Night Sweats.

“We are only here because of you guys tonight, so thank you so much for coming. I never thought we’d be here with all of you, so this is a truly amazing thing for us.”

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band were excused after a few songs, leaving Rateliff and his matching brothers (most of whom wore denim jackets with ‘Intentional Dickweed’ embroidered across the back) to perform “The Intro”, “Howling at Nothing”, “Wasting Time”, and “Mellow Out”; all in pure Night Sweats style. The sky was clear and the air smelled of autumn, but the red lights upon the red rocks represented the heat radiating from the stage. No one was immune to the fever either. There wasn’t a single person questioning the name of the band at that point in the evening.

“In 1998 I moved here with my best friend, Joseph Pope III on bass, and we would come out here in the middle of the night. We were just a bunch of poor kids from nowhere. Well, Missouri actually, where all poor people come from. We sat on this stage and smoked a joint and drank some wine and told each other we’d play here someday. It’s nice to be here with you guys. And it’s nice to be here with my best friend too.”

In a time when so many artists are looking to the 80’s for inspiration, Rateliff and the Night Sweats are not the only band whose vision goes back a little further, but unlike Alabama Shakes and St. Paul & The Broken Bones, and even Shakey Graves, I don’t feel like I am watching a group of musicians paying homage to the 60’s; I feel like I am watching a band perform in the 60’s. It was partially the matching outfits; it was partially the lighting; it was partially the presentation and style of dancing and all the horns, but there was something more to it than that. There was an originality on display which should have been impossible for a retro band. Having seen Rateliff perform straight-up folk music so many times in the past, I had even more reason to be skeptical of his new stage personality, but if there was a façade to been seen through, my vision must be going in my old age, because everything during the 90-minute performance seemed 100% legit to me.

“We’ve been on tour for most of the past year. We never anticipated the album would do so well. Thank you for your support for our various bands and projects. It’s good to be here with all our neighbors.”

I’m going to forgo a detailed play-by-play of the show, but I will say they performed almost the entire album, with the only exception being “I’d Be Waiting”. They also performed live staples “The Intro” and “Out on the Weekend”, as well as a new song. We were given a dance lesson before “Shake” (“four corners…side to side…a little twist, try that”) and the band was loose, free flowing, but also in flawless form the entire night.

I can always appreciate a singer songwriter accompanying themselves on a guitar. I can sympathize with that, deeply because I’ve been a singer accompanying myself on a guitar for the last seven years, and it takes time, such does any music to penetrate that glass ceiling that you can see bands or artists that you would call your contemporaries, doing what they love, making a splash somewhere, somehow. But seriously, lets talk about Nathanniel Rateliff, a singer songwriter who has been doing what he does for a long time, with a vast discography behind him, but giving this guy a chance was a great decision. His music definitely speaks louder than words, and so do his songs, which are fantastically crafted. One of the ones that really stuck with me was “Early Spring Till”, which he performed accompanied by his nylon strung acoustic guitar and the belting vocals from Julie Davis, who is pretty much an unknown, but the marriage of their vocals together is just a force to be reckoned with. Their voices blend so well and you find yourself singing them for days afterwards.

I would not recommend trying to write a short review in Songkick though - its really annoying.

Really entertaining band! Great vocals and music was fun and upbeat. Nathaniel seems really passionate and everyone on stage was really into it. Would like to see them again next time they are in Calgary.

Amazing! Great performance, great vibes. Nathaniel and his band were really powerful and they transmitted a lot of good energy. I hope they release a new album soon and come back to Madrid.

When Rateliff returned from his pandemic-truncated solo tour in March 2020, he struggled with the same question that vexed so many of us then—what now? Fortunately, he returned to his Colorado homestead and penned a set of songs that synthesized his introspection with his anthemic inclinations. The result is The Future, the third Night Sweats album but the first to capture this octet’s true depth and breadth. Nathaniel Rateliff, My Morning Jacket to co-headline 2024 tour

W ith its swirl of soul, Americana and indie rock, Denver’s platinum-selling Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats has conquered international stages all on its own, following years of Rateliff’s dues-paying folkie career.

But the hard-working band is getting some help this year from My Morning Jacket — the similarly incendiary live act that mashes hard-driving guitars, wailing vocals and county twang into cosmically beautiful tunes. Both acts have sold out multi-night Red Rocks Amphitheatre stands on their own, but together, they promise a mighty draw.

The bands will co-headline a Sept. 10-28 road jaunt, called the Eye to Eye Tour, that finds them performing equal-length sets and switching the order for each concert, according to a press statement. .

“We are long-time lovers of My Morning Jacket and have grown a close friendship over the years,” Rateliff said in the statement. “It’s so special to become friends with musicians and peers that you admire, and we’re looking forward to bringing our love for each other on the road.”

“We were lucky enough to see Nathaniel and some of the Night Sweats at Preservation Hall in New Orleans some years ago — our minds were blown, our hearts were opened, and we got swept up in the joy of it all,” said Jim James, singer for My Morning Jacket, in the statement. “We are so happy to share the stage with these fine folks for a run full of peace, love, music, and fun!”

The un-fun part? There are currently no Colorado dates scheduled — or any west of the Mississippi River. Most are on the East Coast, with a couple in My Morning Jacket’s friendly territory of Nashville (the band hails from Louisville, Ken.).

Rateliff is currently planning shows at Denver’s Boettcher Concert Hall April 5-6 with the Colorado Symphony , a reprise of last year’s Imagination Artist series, but with a new program of orchestra-backed Leonard Cohen covers. Rateliff and the Night Sweats will follow that with a handful of North American dates, followed by the Night Sweats’ string of European dates and U.S. concerts, before joining with MMJ.
