The inaugural LIV Golf Invitational Series has reached its halfway point, with the fifth of the eight scheduled events set to take place at Rich Harvest Farms in Chicago this week.

The Saudi-backed circuit has caused controversy within the golfing world since its launch this year, with the PGA Tour suspending indefinitely players who elected to compete in LIV Golf events.

Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter were among the first wave of players to join the series, consisting of 54-hole events limited to a 48-man field, with Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Champion Golfer of the Year Cameron Smith all signing since.

Eligible LIV Golf members can currently still compete on the DP World Tour, with Poulter one of 15 golfers to travel from the LIV Golf event in Boston to play at the BMW PGA Championship last week, with fines and sanctions for joining the breakaway tour temporarily lifted until a hearing next February.

There have been no additional signings for this week's LIV Golf event, with 46 of the 48-man field returning from the Boston tournament earlier this month and the two changes being golfers who have already competed on the tour this season.

Henrik Stenson returns from injury to replace Shergo Al Kurdi in Majesticks GC, while David Puig comes in for Spain's Adrian Otaegui in the roster and joins Torque GC after turning professional this week.

The story so far

The series launched in June at Centurion Club near London, with South Africa's Charl Schwartzel winning the individual event as well as being part of Stinger GC who cruised to victory in the team contest. Schwartzel's double success saw the former Masters champion pick up a total of $4.75m in prize money, including $4m for the individual prize.

Another South African, Branden Grace, prevailed in the second tournament at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Portland with 4 Aces GC, consisting of Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Talor Gooch and Pat Perez snaffling the team prize.

The big controversy ahead of the third tournament at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster was the decision of Henrik Stenson to switch to the Greg Norman-fronted tour, with the Swede being stripped of the Ryder Cup captaincy as a result.

Stenson's move paid instant dividends for him, though, as he earned a bumper $4m payday by winning the tournament by two strokes, with 4 Aces once again taking the team honours.

The series remained in the United States for the fourth tournament, with another six new names in the field, the most controversial of them being Open champion Cameron Smith, who had confirmed his long-rumoured switch after the Tour Championship.

Cameron Smith

Smith tied for fourth place at The International in Boston, finishing just one shot behind Johnson, and two fellow newcomers in Anirban Lahiri and Joaquin Niemann, with Johnson prevailing after the first play-off in the series. The American also added $750,000 to his $4m pay packet with another victory for 4 Aces in the team event.

The win elevated Johnson to the top of the individual standings with 94 points, ahead of Grace (77), Carlos Ortiz (48), Talor Gooch (48) and Matthew Wolff (47). The top three finishers at the end of the seven-event regular season will receive bonuses from the $30m purse, with the winner taking $18m and the runner-up earning $8m.

What are the future plans?

Stonehill Golf Club in Bangkok will be the venue from October 7-9 and Royal Greens Golf Club - the site of the Saudi International in recent years - hosts the following week, with the season-ending Team Championship at Trump National Doral Miami from October 27-30.

The format changes in the Team Championship, which is a seeded four-day, four-round, match play knockout tournament. The top four seeds automatically receive a bye through the first round, with the remaining eight teams playing against each other to see who reaches the quarter-finals.

LIV Golf has announced that the LIV Golf League will officially launch in 2023 with 48 players and 12 established team franchises competing in a 14-tournament schedule.

The full slate of events will be announced at a later date and is expected to expand LIV Golf's global footprint across North and Latin Americas, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Europe.

The PGA Tour wasted little time bringing down the hammer on golfers who choose to play LIV Golf, issuing a letter outlining suspensions that will affect some of the game's biggest stars, including Mickelson and Johnson.

Pat Perez joins LIV Golf

LIV Golf officially added Pat Perez to its roster on Saturday. The 46-year-old, currently ranked No. 168 in the world, will join — along with Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed — at the circuit's second event in Oregon at the end of June.

A three-time winner on the PGA Tour, Perez last won at the CIMB Classic in October 2017. He most recently played at the Memorial Tournament from June 2-5, finishing tied for 26th. He last appeared in a major at the 2019 PGA Championship.

Patrick Reed joined the LIV Golf broadcast on Saturday and confirmed he'll make his debut in the circuit's second event, which will take place at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore., from June 30 to July 2.

The 2018 Masters winner and Bryson DeChambeau have been announced as LIV Golf members since the start of the first event.

Canadian Open, sponsor RBC move on without longtime tournament face Dustin Johnson

TORONTO – Laurence Appelbaum heard the news late on May 31, three days before the reveal of the full RBC Canadian Open field.

Dustin Johnson, a two-time major champion and RBC ambassador, was joining the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Tour. His name appeared on the list of golfers playing the tour’s first event, happening the same week as the Canadian Open, June 10-12.

When he heard the decision from the PGA Tour, Appelbaum, Golf Canada’s CEO, was surprised and shocked.

“DJ had been so effusive in his commitment to the PGA Tour about 60 days prior,” Appelbaum said. “And he was such an important part of Team RBC.”

Rory McIlroy weighs in

The former world No. 1 said Wednesday that the controversial LIV series is "not something (he wants) to participate in" and implied that those doing so are in it "purely for money." On Thursday, he said golfers at the Canadian Open are "pleased" by the sanctions handed out.

He added that he does plan to check out the LIV Golf streams.

"I think like everyone else, I'm intrigued and I'm a fan of golf. I've got quite a few guys over there that I call friends that are playing," he said. "I'll see it and watch it and see what all the fuss is about."

McIlroy is out on the team names, though.

"Certainly not going out to buy any team merchandise any time soon," he said.

Saudi-backed LIV Golf announces eight-event, $255 million series that will visit United States

1368018438

Oisin Keniry

LIV Golf, the Saudi Arabia-back group fronted by Greg Norman that for some time has been attempting to lure the game’s best players to compete on a global circuit to rival the PGA Tour, announced the formal creation of its league and an inaugural schedule Wednesday.

The eight-tournament, $255 million series—called the LIV Golf Invitational—will kick off at the Centurion Club outside of London the week before the U.S. Open starting June 9. Each event will be a three-round, 54-hole competition with no cuts. There will also be shotgun starts in order to fit the events in a shorter time window, along with a team component, with 48 players divided between 12 squads. Four of the events will be held in the United States. Those sites are Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Portland (July 1-3), Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. (July 29-31), the International in Boston (Sept. 2-4) and Rich Harvest Farms in Chicago (Sept. 16-18). Other hosts include Stonehill Golf Club in Bangkok and Royal Greens Golf Club in Jeddah. A site for the final event, the team championship, was not announced.

The first seven events will each boast $25 million purses, $20 million for individual prizes and another $5 million for the team competition. The eighth event will offer $30 million for the top three players of the season, with another $50 million for teams in total prize funds.

“Our events are truly additive to the world of golf,” Norman, CEO of LIV Golf and a World Golf Hall of Famer, said in a statement. “We have done our best to create a schedule that allows players to play elsewhere, while still participating in our events. I believe players will increasingly make progress in achieving their right to play where they want. We will help in any way possible and will provide golfers with opportunities to achieve their full potential.”

MORE: Where top pros stand on the Saudi league, in their own words

On Tuesday, Norman sent a memo to players promising more playing opportunities in the near future. The letter, which has been obtained by Golf Digest, states: “We are launching, and we will continue to drive this vision forward. We will not stop.”

“While we respect that some of you may have concerns, know that we will work tirelessly with you to alleviate them," Norman continued. “Our goal always will be to let you focus on your playing performance, while benefiting from new opportunities, whenever you are ready for them.”

However, Wednesday's announcement of the series did not include the names of any players who had committed to playing the events. Additionally, there was no mention of a broadcast partner that would televise the events.

In February 2022, LIV Golf announced a $300 million, 10-year investment in the Asian Tour at the Saudi International that included a 10-event international series that will host tournaments in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. The investment was made in exchange for the Asian Tour sanctioning LIV Golf events.

LIV Golf has targeted the sport's marquee players to join its league. However, following the Fire Pit Collective’s publication last month of controversial comments by Phil Mickelson, nearly all of the game’s biggest names have distanced themselves from the LIV effort, including two of LIV Golf’s top targets in Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has promised that any player who sided with a rival league would face suspension and possibly a lifetime ban.

In response to Wednesday's announcement, a PGA Tour spokesperson said, "As we have stated repeatedly in recent weeks, the PGA Tour has moved on."

MORE: Can players be banned legall from the PGA Tour for joining the Saudi-back golf league?

LIV is financially backed by the controversial Public Investment Fund. The PIF is essentially the financial arm of the Saudi Arabia government, which has been accused of numerous human-rights violations. To improve its reputation, especially to the Western world, Saudi Arabia has heavily invested in various athletic organizations and events, a practice often referred to as “sportswashing.” This exercise, particularly when used by state-run groups, is considered a form of propaganda to distract the public from its abuses. Last weekend Saudi Arabia held a mass execution of 81 people in a single day. According to the United Nations at least 41 were men who had taken part in anti-government protests.

2024 Memorial Tournament live stream, watch online, TV schedule, channel, tee times, golf coverage, radio

The pga tour returns to jack's place for the final event before the u.s. open.

memorial-tournament-flag-g.jpg

A busy three-week stretch on the PGA Tour kicks off this week with the 2024 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village. Serving as the appetizer for the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, the Memorial will welcome the best players on the PGA Tour as it dons the signature status once again.

Cutting the field at the 36-hole mark like the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Genesis Invitational, the Memorial represents the final chance for players to fine-tune their games. A game which needs little sharpening is that of Scottie Scheffler. The world No. 1 arrives in Ohio as the clear-cut favorite after his top-10 performance at the PGA Championship and runner-up finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Finishing one stroke outside the playoff at this event a season ago, Scheffler looks to break through at Jack's place with a cooperative putter in tow.

Speaking of cooperative, that could be an adjective to describe Xander Schauffele's game. The PGA Championship winner makes his first start since becoming a major champion at a venue where he has connected on five straight top-25 finishes. With a big win under his belt, the world No. 2 could be on the cusp of chasing down Scheffler.

Rory McIlroy rounds out the three-headed monster sitting atop this field. Twice a winner this season, McIlroy experienced a nice Canadian Open up in Ontario last week, resulting in a top-five finish. With his iron play looking sharper by the week, the four-time major champion hoprd for another strong outing before peaking next week.

While Scheffler, Schauffele and McIlroy have entered the winner's circle a combined eight times in 2024, many of the big names on the PGA Tour have not. Defending champion Viktor Hovland, two-time major champion Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Åberg, Max Homa, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Tommy Fleetwood and Cameron Young all search for their first wins of the season Muirfield Village.

India vs. Pakistan: How much are the tickets for T20 World Cup's 'hottest event'?

liv tour schedule

After losing to co-hosts United States , in what is being termed as the "first upset" of the season, Pakistan is set to face neighbors India in their second match of the tournament. The highly anticipated match this Sunday will also be India's second match in this edition of the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 . India won their first match of the tournament against Ireland on June 5.

The two archrivals will play against each other in the 19th match of the tournament at the newly constructed 34,000-seat stadium in Nassau County, New York. Both India and Pakistan have won the T20 World Cup once. While India won the inaugural edition in 2007, Pakistan took home the trophy in 2009.

International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO Geoff Allardice, in an interview with USA TODAY , had termed the face-off between the two countries as "one of the greatest international sporting rivalries in the world of sport." One of the primary reasons behind this is the long-standing political tension between the nuclear powers that began almost as soon as they gained independence from the British crown in 1947 and continued to get worse as the years passed. As a result, despite having cricket deeply embedded in the culture, the two do not play against each other unless it's in an international tournament like this one.

Matches between Pakistan and India are few and far, driving a high demand for them and in turn, causing ticket prices to surge. The two countries have mostly always played in sold-out stadium and Sunday is expected to be no different. Here's an insight into what the India vs. Pakistan ticket prices look like.

When is Pakistan vs. India?

India and Pakistan will face each other at 10:30 a.m. ET on Sunday, June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Long Island , New York, about 30 miles east of downtown Manhattan.

Pakistan vs. India tickets

General tickets for the India vs. Pakistan match sold out almost immediately on the official website during the public ticketing ballot and after when the sales went live in February. At the time, the ICC had said that India vs. Pakistan was the most sought-after match of the tournament and "more than 200-times oversubscribed," during the public ticket ballot.

On the official T20 tournament website, a limited number of seats are available in the Diamond Club for $10,000, Cabanas for $3,000 and Premium Club Lounge for $2,500.

Pakistan vs. India tickets on third-party sellers

Tickets for the match between India and Pakistan are currently mostly available for purchase on third-party websites such as Stubhub and SeatGeek for varying prices.

Tickets for the "hottest event" on Stubhub started at $630 per ticket without fees as of Friday afternoon, while tickets on SeatGeek began at $870 each without fees. The most expensive tickets on Stubhub were selling for around $4,500 without fees and for $6,700 without fees on SeatGeek Friday.

SeatGeek told USA TODAY that the average resale ticket price for the India vs. Pakistan game is $1,366, "nearly five times more" than the next most in-demand match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, which is U.S. vs. India on June 12.

SeatGeek Thursday evening said they have "seen some ticket sales hit approximately $2,400 for premier seat locations within the front row," to date.

"Sunday’s matchup is also the most in-demand overall at this year’s World Cup, with the second being India’s match against Canada on June 15 at Central Broward Regional Park and Stadium in Lauderhill," SeatGeek said, adding that the average resale ticket price for that event is $349.

Earlier in March, ticket prices for the same match were starting at $1,000 without fees with the VIP tickets going for a whopping $40,000 each without fees. Fees for the most expensive tickets was around $1,000 bringing the total price for VIP tickets to $50,000. The market appears to have cooled since then, lowering ticket prices overall.
