Rotational Dining on a Disney Cruise: What You Should Know

dining tables

Are you curious about how Disney Cruise rotational dining works? Even if you are an avid cruiser with other cruise lines, the rotational dining method that Disney Cruise Line ships use may seem confusing at first.

My family and I really enjoy the way Disney Cruise Line allows you to rotate between main dining rooms throughout your cruise. This way, you get to experience all the themed restaurants on the cruise ship. Each dining space is wonderfully unique, and it is fun to spend time in each of the different restaurants.

If you’re wondering about how the Disney Cruise rotational dining system works, we’ve got you covered! In this post, I will explain what you need to know about rotational dining, and I will provide some dining tips and hacks to aid in your planning process!

When do you find out your dining rotation?

Disney Cruise Line used to print guests’ dining rotations on the Key to the World Card . Once you received this card during check in at the cruise terminal, you could determine what your dining rotation was.

Your Guide to Disney Cruise Line’s Rotational Dining

by Kelly Coffey-Behrens | Apr 14, 2023 | Disney Cruise Line , Disney Cruise Line Food

Planning a Disney Cruise Line vacation can be overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time setting sail. But figuring out your food options is particularly challenging, especially if you’ve never sailed on one of Disney’s very own cruise ships. While many details are different on a Disney cruise, the dining system is particularly unique – Guests aboard all ships get to participate in a special rotational dining system. You may be asking yourself, What is rotational dining? How does it work? And most importantly, how do I know which restaurant I am eating at which night?

We’re answering all of your questions! Keep reading for your full guide to rotational dining and what to expect ahead of your next Disney Cruise Line vacation.

What is Rotational Dining?

Photo courtesy of Disney Parks Blog

Disney Cruise Line uses a system called rotational dining for their cruises. All five of the Disney Cruise Line ships include three different restaurants for Guests to experience during dinner throughout the entity of their vacation. And yes, you’ll get to dine at each one of those three locations over the course of your trip!

In order to allow every Guest on board to dine at every restaurant, Disney uses rotational dining. Upon boarding the Disney Cruise Line ship, each stateroom will be assigned a dining time, a table number, and a restaurant schedule.

In addition to keeping the same table number throughout your cruise, you will also keep the same dining staff. That means every night, no matter which restaurant you’re eating at, your assistant waiter, waiter, and head waiter will all follow you, making for an intimate and one-of-a-kind dining experience.

In regard to dining times, there are two options. The first is the main seating which occurs at 5:45 PM, with the second seating at 8:15 PM (just note that these times can vary if you’re sailing in Europe). Disney Cruise Line offers an evening show every night in the Walt Disney Theater, which will typically run twice. This way, whether you have the first or second seating, you can still attend one of the two shows that night.

How to Find Your Rotational Dining Schedule

Disney makes navigating the cruise ship and your plans easy thanks to the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. Before you set sail, make sure you download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app because not only will this app map out all of the events happening that day, but it will tell show you the dining rotation and dinner time you and your family will follow for the entirety of the cruise.

As soon as you arrive onboard the ship, the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app will show you your restaurant schedule and table number for each evening’s meal. It’s also where you’ll be able to find out if you’re in seating one or two each night (the time of your meal will be clearly displayed!).

What If You Have Two Staterooms?

If you’re sailing with a larger party and have booked more than one stateroom, just be sure to contact Disney or your specialized travel agent as they can put in a note, informing the dining team of your reservation, and allowing them to seat both staterooms at the same dining table. This way, your entire family can enjoy dinner together every evening.

Requesting a Specific Dining Rotation

If you’re hoping to get a specific dining rotation on your cruise, it is possible! But to request any kind of customization, you’ll need to call Disney Cruise Line in advance of your sailing date. It’s best to call about a month to two months in advance. You can put in a request for a particular rotation schedule, dinner seating time, or other personal need. While it’s not guaranteed that you’ll get exactly what you ask for, Disney Cruise Line does try to grant your request when possible. Oh, and keep this tip in mind:  Earlier seatings tend to be the most popular , so you may have difficulty nabbing the first seating!

Another customization you can make, if needed, is special meals to suit any dietary restrictions or needs. You can easily make these requests online if you have food allergies or adhere to a particular diet. While some requests can be made onboard the ship, it’s always a good idea to check in advance to ensure Disney can potentially meet your needs.

Can You Skip Rotational Dining on Disney Cruise?

While none of the dining assignments are mandatory onboard your cruise, if you choose to skip your dinner seating for that evening, you may miss out on a specially-themed menu and restaurant , all of which are included with the price of your cruise. However, we know it can be totally tempting to want to swap one of your rotational dinner meals with a special reservation or dining experience, especially with so many different options available onboard.

For those sailing on a longer itinerary, such as a 7-night cruise, skipping one night at your assigned dinner rotation to enjoy a more relaxing dinner poolside or to have a special night out at one of the adults-only restaurants may not be as “make or break” compared to if you’re on a shorter cruise, such as a 3- or 4-night. That’s because during these shorter sailings, you will only dine in three assigned restaurants once. On the longer cruises, you may dine at the restaurants two or even three times – and that means skipping out one evening to enjoy Palo may be the right option for you!

DCL 101: Answers to the BIGGEST Rotational Dining Questions for First-time Cruisers

On the first night of our recent Disney Cruise Line voyage, my husband and I were seated in the main dining room next to a family who was cruising for the first time . As the dinner service began to unfold, they had questions for our server and needed guidance along the way as to how the whole experience was going to unfold.

As I sat there assessing their needs, it occurred to me that I was in the same boat (ha ha) on the first night of my first-ever Disney Cruise Line vacation back in 2004. There are definitely questions to be answered, and if your first Disney Cruise Line vacation is coming up, some of these answers may help make that first night in one of the main dining rooms even more magical than it already is. Knowledge is power, right? Let’s tackle some of the things that first-time cruisers need to know about dining onboard the DCL ships .

disney cruise dining rotation request

First things first: each evening, your serving team (Server and Assistant Server) will follow you to your assigned main dining rooms.

This is different than on other cruise lines, and it allows your serving team to really get to know you and your likes and dislikes. Don’t be surprised if the team greets you by name as you approach your table on the first night of your cruise. I vividly remember walking into Parrot Cay (now Rapzunel’s Royal Table) on the Disney Magic on our very first Disney cruise and being welcomed by name by our server, Sompong. It’s your serving team’s goal to provide you with an excellent guest experience, and the foundation is laid before you even walk into the dining room. They’ll memorize names, and favorite drinks and/or dishes, and they’ll make you feel like family right away.

With the exception of dessert, your dinner order is taken for the entire meal at one time.

I know that you and I may shy away from placing our entire dinner order at one time while at Walt Disney World for fear that our entrée will arrive well before we’re done with our appetizer course, but you can rest easy here on Disney Cruise Line. Your server will indeed ask for your entire order in one fell swoop, but your server will make sure that your meal is paced out to perfection. Your entrée will not appear until your appetizer plates and utensils have been cleared from the table, and so on.

disney cruise dining rotation request

Speaking of your dinner order, let’s talk about what that entails.

Even if you’ve never stepped foot onto a cruise ship, you’ve likely gotten the hint that food will be playing a starring role during your voyage. Cruising equals abundant food, and it’s always a good thing to bring your appetite with you to dinner. When you arrive each evening, you’ll be greeted with a different menu from which to craft your meal. You’ll be asked to choose an appetizer, a soup or salad, and entrée. After your entrée dishes have been cleared, you’ll have the chance to order dessert.

disney cruise dining rotation request

You can order more than one dish. For real.

Torn between two entrées or appetizers? Your server will give you their recommendations, and will likely suggest that you simply get both dishes. You read that right: if you’d like more than one dish, you are more than welcome to order them. No one will shun you; this is part of your cruise fare, and you’re the captain of your ship (well, not really , but you know what I mean). You do you. My favorite dish in any DCL main dining room is the Fried Brie with Cranberry Chutney in the Dream and Fantasy ‘s Royal Palace/Royal Court. Please ask for at least two orders of that glorious fried cheese. You’ll thank me later. I promise.

Let’s talk dress code for the main dining rooms.

It’s your cruise, and even more now than in the past, this pertains to everything you might do while onboard a DCL ship, even when you’re eating in the main dining locations. Disney Cruise Line’s current dress code policy for the three main dining rooms is: “In general, most onboard dining locations are ‘cruise casual,’ so casual attire, such as shorts and T-shirts, is permitted, with the exception of swimwear and tank tops.” Back in the day, the dress code at dinner didn’t skew toward the cruise casual side of things, but as the years have gone on, and cruising has transformed, things have (graciously) changed. Of course, if you like dressing up for dinner, go for it. Do what brings you the most joy while on vacation. I fall into the “it’s fun to dress up for dinner” category, while my hubby leans toward the more casual side of things, and both are a-okay in DCL’s eyes.

Pre-pandemic, each cruise itinerary would have cruise casual nights, a pirate-themed night, and an optional formal (or dressier) evening or two, depending on the length of the cruise. These are emphasized to a lesser degree these days. Some guests definitely still go all out for Pirate Night , so if being a pirate while onboard a Disney ship is on your must-do list, be sure to bring along your best pirate garb, but the formal themed evenings are less important. Cruise casual is ruling the day (well, technically, the evening).

It’s worth noting that the dress code does lean more toward the fancy side of things in the adult dining locations . The current dress code for these locations is this: “Adult-exclusive restaurants aboard Disney Cruise Line ships are elegant dining experiences. Guests are requested to dress in a manner consistent with the restaurant’s sophistication. Formal or semi-formal attire is recommended. Dress casual attire with a polished look is permitted (such as dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts and blouses and lifestyle shoes). Clothing such as T-shirts, swimwear and sports attire is not permitted.”

If your little one needs good food fast, your server can take their order first.

Little ones need what they need when they need it, and sometimes their tummies just aren’t on the same timeline as the rest of the family’s. Your server can take the order for your kiddo and push their meal out faster if you so choose. Sometimes having a few fries will help young (or older) ones to settle in and enjoy the main dining room experience.

disney cruise dining rotation request

Speaking of dining experience, your time in the DCL restaurants will be just that.

Depending on which dining room you eat in on a given evening, something will happen. The environment or set pieces will change, the serving team’s costumes could change, or a Disney character might interact with the guests at your table either in person or via nearby screens. Your meal is meant to be an event, and it’s a lot of fun to discover the fun details along the way. If you’re dining in Royal Palace or Royal Court, be sure to take a walk around the dining room after your meal to notice all of the princess-y design details that have been woven into everything. Animators’ Palate has equally fabulous details tucked here, there, and everywhere. It’s so much fun to stop and savor the little things.

disney cruise dining rotation request

Not finding something you’d like on the menu? The Disney Cruise Line chefs have got your back.

It’s so much fun to try new and different things on a cruise, but if you’re just not finding something that floats your boat (been there, done that), simply skip down to the “Lighter Note Offerings” section of the menu. You’ll always find a beef, chicken, and fish dish, as well as a vegetarian and possibly lamb dish in the Lighter Note Offerings section. The Lighter Note Offerings will vary just a bit every night, and will offer something familiar and comforting for guests who just aren’t drawn to the themed entrées.

Love your server? You can request them when planning future sailings!

If you fall in love with your server, you can request them when booking future cruises. Have your reservation number in hand, and give DCL a call to officially place your request. On embarkation day, you can also head to the dining desk to touch base with a crew member about your request. Keep in mind that your request might not be possible, but I’ve always found that the dining team does all that they can to make magic for you and your traveling party. Our very favorite server? Sompong from Thailand. He’s simply wonderful.

I could go on and on, but these are answers to some of the very biggest questions that you might have when planning your first Disney Cruise Line vacation. Of course, here at DCL Fan, we love to remind you that the expert Dreams Unlimited Travel agents are here to help you plan your DCL voyage, and they can help answer any additional questions you might have.

If you have additional dining advice that you’d like to add, please do so in the comments section below!

Disney Cruise Line Primer: Rotational Dining

One unique feature of Disney Cruise Line is its rotational dining system. All three Disney Cruise Line ships have three “standard” main dining room restaurants.

  • Magic: Rapunzel’s Royal Table, Lumiere’s, Animator’s Palate
  • Wonder: Tiana’s Place, Triton’s, Animator’s Palate
  • Dream: Enchanted Garden, Royal Palace, Animator’s Palate
  • Fantasy:  Enchanted Garden, Royal Court, Animator’s Palate

How does rotational dining work?

Over the course of your cruise (of three nights or longer) you will visit each of these restaurants at least once. Your table number, people seated at your table, and serving staff (server, assistant server, and head server) will remain the same throughout your cruise. Although you can request specific rotations before you board (for instance, if you want to make sure that you are in Royal Court on the second night of your three-night cruise), rotation requests are not guaranteed, and you will find out your rotation once you receive your Key to the World card at check-in. If you are not satisfied with your dining rotation, see Guest Services on embarkation day to see what options are available for switching your rotation. Your Key to the World card will have your table number and your dining rotation printed on it (with initials for the restaurants, like E for Enchanted Garden or A for Animator’s Palate), in case you forget where you’re dining that night or your table number.

disney cruise dining rotation request

Do breakfast and lunch also have rotational dining?

Rotational dining is only used for dinner seating (with one exception noted below). For breakfast and lunch, aside from the last day, you are free to dine at the breakfast or lunch buffet at Cabanas without a set time or a set table. If you want a sit-down breakfast or lunch, at least one of the main dining rooms will be open for first-come-first-serve seating. You do not need to come at a set time and you likely will not be seated at your “usual” table or have your regular serving staff.

disney cruise dining rotation request

What about dinner at Cabanas, Palo, or Remy?

For those who choose, on select nights dinner is available as a sit-down meal at Cabanas with no reservation required (but first-come-first-serve). For the premium restaurants, Palo (on all four ships) and Remy (on the Dream and Fantasy only), reservations are required. It is usually a courtesy to let your serving staff know the night before that you are dining elsewhere, so they know not to wait for you to show, but it is not required.

disney cruise dining rotation request

What’s the one exception to rotational dining only for dinner?

On the morning that you debark from the ship to head home, you will be asked to dine in the same rotational dining restaurant and table as you were assigned to on your last night, regardless of whether you ate there or dined in Palo, Remy, or grabbed a slice of pizza and called it dinner. The time you report for breakfast will be noted on your debarkation paperwork left in your stateroom–early dining means you have the early breakfast slot, late dining means you have the… well, not quite as early breakfast slot. (It’s still pretty early because they need to get you off the ship as soon as possible!)

disney cruise dining rotation request

If you’re dining in a restaurant that has some sort of show (like Tiana’s place, Rapunzel’s Royal Table, or Animator’s Palate) will it be the same show both times?

No — each time at the restaurant is unique. For Animator’s Palate on the Fantasy on a seven-night cruise, for example, your first time there will be an evening with Crush, the sea turtle from Finding Nemo, and the second time there will be animation magic, where you see your drawings come to life on the screen.

Rotation, Rotation, Rotation – Dining with Disney Cruise Line!

One of the things I love most about sailing with Disney Cruise Line is the unique activities, features, and amenities you find on the ships, including their rotational dining!

Dessert from the Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream

Rotational dining is a unique dining structure found only on Disney’s ships. Each vessel in Disney’s fleet has multiple dining rooms, and rotational dining ensures that each guest has the chance to check out each of the differently themed dining venues during their cruise.

Table setting at the Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream

Once you’re on board the ship, you’ll be able to check your dining schedule in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. The app will tell you which restaurant you will be dining in for each night of your sailing, and you’ll be able to check out their menus there as well!

While there are different restaurants aboard some of the different ships, I recently sailed on the Disney Dream , so I thought it would be fun to take you on a virtual tour of each of the three main dining rooms found on that ship!

Exterior shot of the Disney Dream

Let’s begin with Royal Palace !

Table setting at the Royal Palace on the Disney Dream

As you might guess, this dining room is inspired by the royalty and elegance of Disney’s classic princesses and fairy tales. The cuisine is French-inspired, with a mix of American favorites dotting the menu. You’ll find Belle’s French onion soup, lamb, beef tenderloin, an array of delicious desserts, and more to choose from during your meal.

Before you’re even inside the restaurant, you can see the gorgeous marble entryway and the soft, warm glow of the light from its chandeliers. Speaking of, be sure to check out the lighting fixtures as you make your way to your table. There is a beautiful grand chandelier featuring glass slippers and glittering crystals!

Chandelier from the Royal Palace on the Disney Dream

The walls are lined with beautiful pieces of art displaying the princesses in stunning portraits, and you might even spot them on the bread basket at the beginning of your meal!

In keeping with a French-inspired theme, let’s move on to Enchanted Garden !

Sign for the Enchanted Garden on the Disney Dream

Inspired by the beautiful gardens of Versailles in France, Enchanted Garden always makes me feel like I have found myself in a magical, airy greenhouse where I get to enjoy a fantastic meal. A whimsical Mickey fountain greets guests as they arrive for their visit at the restaurant, and the glass flowers, ornate trellises, and even a changing-sky ceiling surround diners, fully enveloping you in the enchanting setting.

Decor from the Enchanted Garden on the Disney Dream

The menu is made up of market-style dishes, sampling a mix of culinary creations inspired by cultures from all over the world. Seafood, roast pork, lobster ravioli, sumptuous soups, and tantalizing desserts are just a sampling of the sweet and savory dishes you can indulge in during your meal.

table setting at the Enchanted Garden on the Disney Dream

The third of the dining rooms is Animator’s Palate , which offers a bit of entertainment during your meal!

Sign for the Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream

Animator’s Palate celebrates the magic of Disney and Pixar’s animated films, and when you first walk in, it’s like stepping into the workroom where the films are mid-production. The tables, chairs, and even the carpeting pay homage to the Mouse who started it all, and the walls are lined with drawings and trinkets from some of your favorite films such as Monsters Inc., Toy Story, and Finding Nemo.

Décor from the Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream

Speaking of Nemo and his pals, you might even find yourself in a face-to-face conversation with Crush the sea turtle as you enjoy your dining experience here! The color and magic of the movies we love truly come to life all around you during your meal!

Décor from the Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream

Much like the dining room itself, the menu is also full of excitement, with a Pan-Asian menu inspired by the cuisines of the Pacific Islands, Asia, and California. The Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes appetizer is a fan-favorite for many of our team members, and with stir fry, seafood, and more to choose from as entrees, you definitely won’t leave this eatery hungry! Be sure to save room for dessert, too, as there are sundaes, crème Brulee, and more to satisfy your sweet tooth at the end of your meal!

Appetizer from the Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream

In addition to some fantastic dining rooms, one of the coolest things about dining with Disney Cruise Line is that even though you will eat in a different venue each night, your wait staff stays with you, moving along to each restaurant night by night. This really gives them the chance to get to know your preferences and lets you make a connection with each other! In my opinion, that is the extra level of extraordinary customer service that Disney is so well-known for!

Servers from the Disney Dream

As you can see, much like in the films, resorts, and theme parks we all love, Disney is all about storytelling, and their unique one-of-a-kind dining experiences onboard their fleet of cruise ships is no different! Each eatery tells a special story to its visitors by combining a feast for the eyes with a feast of food, making your journey across the seas even more magical!

Requesting to sit alone at dinner

I see there are a few threads on requesting to sit alone for the rotational dinners. But most of these threads are about families of 4 or more and some have requests filled and others not (most did) I am going with my Husband, we don't have any kids or anyone else in our party - just the two of us. My Hubby is extremely shy and for reasons that are my own I don't want to be seated with any kids. Do you think we could request a table alone for just the two of us? I really want to dine in some of these restaurants especially Animator's Palate but really don't want to sit with other people.

We are leaving next week on the fantasy and have a request in for me, DH and DM to sit alone. And have requested in September to be alone with DH. Due to hectic and cross schedules we don't see each other often and just get to have days together at a time so we like to be able have that time to ourselves and not share each other!

When we don't travel with our family of 8, I always ask for a table for just us. 5 of 5 times we have been given a 4 top for just the two of us. Just give DCL a call after you make your reservation. They will tell you its just a request no guarantee.

Earning My Ears

My husband and I have cruised twice on the Dream alone. We have three children and wanted some time sans children. We needed alone time and had no interest in sharing a table with others on either of these cruises. Both cruises were in May so not peak season. Our request was granted on our first cruise. On the second one we were assigned a table with two other couples. I checked on this before dinner and request again that we be seated alone explaining why the request had been made. Disney was happy to move us to a table alone. We did have late seating and our cruise was not sold out. I'm not certain if our request could have been met if our cruise had been full. We have shared a table before when cruising with our children. In all honesty we do prefer not to share but it wasn't a horrible experience. The other family was matched well with our children's ages. We all managed to get along well.

Ask for a private table (have your TA note it in your reservation or DCL note it if you booked direct). As others have mentioned, there are no 2-top tables, but DCL will seat you alone at a 4-top. Follow up with your request once you are onboard with wherever dining changes are being handled. Don't wait till dinner starts to confirm your request. You stand a great chance of having your request honored if you have late seating, aren't cruising during peak dates, and aren't fussy about your dining rotation. If, by chance, you are sailing concierge, you are pretty much guaranteed to dine alone, unless you request to sit with others. Enjoy!

Wow thank you I didn't expect so many replies. We are on the Fantasy Sept 20 Sailing, 7 night Eastern Caribbean with the late seating. The main two reasons we want to sit alone is because I don't want to be one of the people that gets talked about on here about not talking to the tablemates. My Husband WILL NOT talk to anyone he doesn't know and even then he is very shy. He barely talks to my parents and we have been together for 8 years! It's just how he rolls LOL The other reason is that I'm afraid we will get seated with children, now don't get me wrong I LOVE kids but I just found out that I can't have kids (unless we do very expensive IVF and then no guarantees) and we already have this vacation booked so there is no going back. It is very hard for me to be around children at the moment, maybe by September I might be feeling better but not right now anyway. Also my job means i'm talking talking talking all the time to people and this vacation is about me relaxing, not having to converse with people all the time. I'll have my TA put in a request and hope that it is fulfilled. If not we will get room service. I hope it is because I really want to experience the restaurants.

I have been on 2 DCL cruises and requested a table alone for my son and I. Both times the request was granted. We were at the early seating and were seated at a 4 top for the two of us. I will also be requesting a table alone for our upcoming DCL cruise in August.

I'll have my TA put in a request and hope that it is fulfilled. If not we will get room service. I hope it is because I really want to experience the restaurants. Click to expand...

We sailed on the Magic in February 2013 and Fantasy in October 2013. We saw a lot of tables with only 2 people. Most were sat at a 4-top but they were able to get tables to themselves. At least a dozen tables if not more during our late seating. DCL does there very best to accommodate. I would submit the request via TA and then follow-up when you get on the ship. Based on a recent DCL survey I participated in I think DCL is realizing more and more families would prefer to sit alone. There were a few questions related to tables for just your party including if you would be willing to pay an additional fee. I hope that does not happen.

It's a big black fish to you.

Yes you can absolutely request. There are very few if any tables for two in the MDRs though. You'd be placed at a four top.

Cool Cruiser

How can you find out what your dining rotation will be?

I know I have a long way to go before my cruise, but I am a planner and am already looking at shore excursions.

We have early sitting and I want to make sure we don't miss Animator's Palate.

Early sitting is good and very good for families with kids, younger kids,, late is better for adults only. So well done on that.

Dining rotation you do not know until you get on the ship, at embarkation it will be on your cruise card called the key to the world card, like a Disney resort card for room and WDW entrance. You may ''request' a rotation, and they may accommodate that, if in a suite they generally honour it.

All restaurants and shows will be experienced on any cruise, but kids prefer to have the AP Show asap.

If the AP show is very important to you to have asap, put a request into DCL, or your TA if used for a rotation starting with AP.

When I was on the Magic, I would request PLA, which had Parrot Cay first, (informal) then Lumiere's, (formal restaurant/ formal night), then Animators. If I was lucky I would make it back to Parrot Cay for Pirate night, so I matched the theme of the restaurant to the theme night, but that really doesnt matter too much. Knowing this rotation I would book Palo Dinner on a night I didn't like.

It used to be that young kids were on first rotation IE, APL, slightly older kids on the next rotation, and adults only on the last but with new restaurants and more people you cant bet on this now,

Put in a request and you may be lucky.

I don't believe you will know in advance. The times I did know in advance we were able to request specific rotations. The first time was because we bought a package called "Romantic Escape at Sea" (or something like that), where you could request your rotation in part, I suppose, because it included a Palo reservation. Two other times - well, you won't find this helpful at all - I cannot for the life of me remember why I was able to request my rotation. I think that each time I was part of a large group of tables that were requesting to link together for dinner (i.e., either sit at same table or have the tables very close together). That must've been it.

The other two times I didn't know in advance and found out when I got my KTTW card, as the prior post mentions. I'm not aware of too many excursions that get back late, even for early dinner.

Good luck with your plans!!!:)

"Romantic Escape at Sea, or REAS -yes you could do it, it was disbanded a few years back due to widespread abuse, generally encouraged by another ship forum, it was meant as a wedding add on, but some people caused a bit of panic saying people wouldn't be able to book Palo etc, and noted that whilst REAS included a Palo dinner in the package, an 'unadvertised' part of it allowed you to book shore trips and dinner rotation and Palo early. This included Brunch which was not part of the package.

Too many people had it, or ordered it and then canceled it when they got what they want and the majority of people suffered for some silly actions.

Now you can only 'request' rotation but Concierge suite customers are virtually guaranteed it.

Since changes to Castaway club have occured and the new advance booking windows REAS wouldnt be possible anyway.

The only place I knew of shore trips coming back after Main/Early dinner was the Blatic, however in the Med they moved back early to 7pm one night, albeit all were back by 6pm.

We just got back yesterday. We didn't know our dining rotation until we received our KTTW card upon arrival at the terminal.

1st seating dinner was at 545pm to 715pm with 2nd seating shows at 830pm to 930pm

2nd seating dinner was at 815pm to 1000pm with 1st seating shows at 615pm to 715pm

Requests for different dining assignments were accepted btwn 100pm to 330pm in the D Lounge on Embarkation day.

On our Five Day Double Dip cruise, the last three days had an extra earlier show time btwn 300pm and 500pm depending on the day.

On the Castaway Cay days, it was All Ashore at 830pm and All Aboard at 500pm, too.

On the Nassau day, it was All Ashore at 930am and All Aboard at 700pm, too.

Interesting, I hadn't seen it in awhile so I assumed they cancelled it, but never heard this backstory. I did the REAS back in 2004; it most definitely was not being touted as a wedding add-on, rather, it was clearly open to all cruisers who were looking for, as the name suggests, "a romantic escape". We were splurging on our first big cruise and this was a nice package that included spa and Palo's. Seems pretty simple to me that if you cancel your package, so too go your Palo ressies, but whatever.

To the OP: I used to like to coordinate my dining rotation with theme nights (e.g., Pirate Night in the tropically themed Parrot Cay, formal night in the more formal Lumiere's). Now that I'm sailing on the Dream soon, I haven't looked into dining room vs. Navigator schedules vs. rotation - it was way too confusing for me at this point! LOL:p

Yes, REAS started like as a Wedding add on, but it was there for the romantics as well ,and used in that way it was a very good package, and people in love booked it and loved it. But a certain internet board had posters who worked out it was a way of getting advance Palo bookings, and shore trips and let the secret out big time.

So it became the in thing to book it, firstly people would book REAS book their Palo etc, then cancel. DCL spotted that and made it that if they cancel REAS, then their Palo bookings etc would cancel. Then DCL stopped it.

The same thing occurred with ''unlimited Internet'' again on another Internet board, people set up teams of cruisers to use one unlimited package, instead of all ordering their own, and that led to the unlimited package being withdrawn.

Thanks to all who replied.

I should have added a little information to my initial post.

I was looking at a particular excursion in Cozumel and it stated:

Please note that the return time for this excursion is approximately 5:30 p.m., which may affect the 1st seating dinner.

My dd will be 5 on the trip and I know she will love AP- I just wanted to make sure that she wouldn't miss it.

It just takes a few people to ruin a good thing. Disneyland used to have "Happy Hearts" days for handicapped kids. That got ruined after a bunch of people abused it by feigning handicaps and/or inviting lots of friends who also got head of the line privileges. If couse, people squealed when DL cut back on the program, claiming that they were anti-handicapped.

Foodie Guide to Rotational Dining on the Disney Wish

This summer, the latest ship to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet set sail – the Disney Wish ! I was lucky enough to experience the Disney Wish and, as a first-time Disney cruiser, was so impressed by not just the beauty of the ship but the food too.

If you’re a foodie like me, knowing what you can expect to eat on vacation is a must. And one of the best parts about traveling on Disney Cruise Line is rotational dining – a concept that remains exclusive to the fleet. This allows you to dine in different restaurants throughout your voyage, giving you the opportunity to experience highly themed environments, feast on various cuisines, and maybe even see some of your favorite characters along the way. While you enjoy a different dinner each night, your service team accompanies you, meaning that you get personalized service with friendly and familiar faces.

The Disney Wish features three different family dining locations, each with their own stories to share –  1923 ,  Worlds of Marvel , and  Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure . Each dining room offers something unique and serves up some truly delicious dishes that will leave you wanting to order more – which you can!

For those with allergies, no need to worry. There is a separate menu available with some additional items as well as clear indications of what you can enjoy. Simply ask your server and bon appétit!

Let’s break down all the food items you can enjoy at the three family restaurants aboard the Disney Wish!

1923, named after the year The Walt Disney Company was founded, pays homage to the golden age of animation and embraces that old Hollywood feel as sketches and models of animation classics can be found all throughout the dining room. The dining room is split into two parts, one dedicated to Walt Disney and one to his brother, Roy Disney. The delicious cuisine is inspired by California flavors and ingredients.

Disney Cruise Line shares first look at its new ship, the Disney Treasure

Booking opens soon, and it's scheduled to set sail this December.

  • September 5, 2023

Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Treasure, will set sail on its maiden voyage Dec. 21, 2024, and we have a first look at the new vessel. The sixth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Treasure is the adventurous sister to the Disney Wish, mirroring many of the Wish’s most beloved offerings and debuting some brand-new experiences.

Here’s a sneak peek at all the ways Disney Cruise Line is bringing Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and even iconic Disney Parks stories to life at sea on the Disney Treasure.

Trading Enchantment for Adventure

The Disney Treasure mirrors the layout of its sister ship and most recent predecessor, the Disney Wish, but trades the Wish’s design motif of enchantment for one of adventure, sourcing inspiration from Disney’s most beloved tales of exploration and discovery.

A New ‘Coco’ Restaurant and Second Marvel Show

Carrying on Disney Cruise Line’s popular rotational dining concept, the Treasure will debut a new “ Coco ”-themed restaurant that joins the nightly dining rotation alongside Worlds of Marvel and 1923, both of which are also on the Wish.

At “Plaza de Coco,” guests are transported to the colorful town of Saint Cecilia, picking up where the story of Miguel and his family left off in the Disney/Pixar film. Guests will experience two celebratory evenings in Mariachi Plaza. Seated beneath colorful hanging banners and lanterns, guests will dine on a menu of “modern twists on traditional Mexican fare” with entertainment by live musicians and performers.

The other main restaurants, Worlds of Marvel and 1923, will remain largely the same, though Worlds of Marvel will be introducing a second show on the Disney Treasure.

New Bars: Skipper Society and Periscope Pub

Just off the Grand Hall, the jungle meets the sea at Skipper Society, a bar/lounge inspired by the Jungle Cruise . References to the world-famous ride abound in this space decorated with hanging lanterns and rustic canopies. Themed cocktails, light bites plus live entertainment should make this a main attraction for Disney Parks fans.

Taking the place of Keg & Compass on the Disney Wish, the Periscope Pub celebrates the 1954 film “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” and the Walt Disney World attraction it inspired. Craft beers and light snacks fortify peckish explorers and live sports and news on screens keep guests connected to the world “above.”

AquaMouse Returns With an Adventurous Addition

AquaMouse, Disney’s first-of-its-kind water ride introduced on the Disney Wish, will debut with an adventurous new twist on the Disney Treasure. The splashy adventure through 760 feet of twisting and turning tubes above the ship’s upper decks will premiere a new storyline — “AquaMouse: Curse of the Golden Egg.” Inspired by “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse” animated shorts, this new adventure takes guests inside an ancient temple alongside Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse in search of treasure.

More Familiar Spaces With an Adventurous Twist

Guests’ first glimpse inside the Disney Treasure is through its gilded Grand Hall. The Grand Hall incorporates design influences from Asia and Africa, conjuring images of the golden palace of Agrabah from Aladdin. Statues of Aladdin and Jasmine beckon guests to start exploring.

Just off the Grand Hall, guests will find Heihei Café. Named after Moana’s feathered friend, the cafe takes design cues from the island of Montunui, incorporating ocean blues, seashell accents, and furniture inspired by Polynesian boat builders. At Jade Cricket Café, the bar will feature a jade sculpture of Cri-Kee, the lucky cricket from “Mulan,” plus decorative nods to Mulan’s heritage and armor.

Just off the pool deck, Jumbeaux’s Sweets will be a “Zootopia”-inspired ice cream shop based on the film’s Jumbeaux Café. Serving handmade gelato, ice cream, sorbet and specialty treats, the colorful shop will feature a sculpture of Officer Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.

Named after “The Lion King” matriarch, Sarabi is the Disney Treasure’s version of Disney Wish’s entertainment hub, Luna. Sarabi is destination for family activities by day that transitions to an adult-exclusive entertainment space at night. Sarabi’s design takes inspiration from the “natural beauty and openness of the savanna.”

Staterooms Showcase Tales of Adventure

Inspired by some of Disney’s most famous animated adventure stories, the Disney Treasure’s 1,256 staterooms will feature artwork and design elements from films including “Aladdin,” “Pocahontas,” “Up” and “ Encanto .”

Most staterooms have an ocean view and 70% have a veranda. Many rooms have the option to adjoin to accommodate larger families, with 451 connecting doors in total.

Concierge-level staterooms and suites include a range of amenities such as spacious sitting areas and access to a private lounge and sun deck. Decor in concierge-level suites draws inspiration from “The Lion King.”

Dining, Leisure and Entertainment Options Abound

The Disney Treasure will feature some of the same dining and entertainment options as the Disney Wish. Some of the offerings on the new cruise liner include the Marceline Market, which will be offering quick, casual dining on the upper deck. Guests will also find the buffet restaurant, Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods as well as five themed food stalls serving crowd-pleasing classics like barbecue, burgers, pizza, and soft-serve ice cream.

The Treasure will also feature three “Beauty and the Beast”-themed adults-only upcharge concepts including the upscale cocktail bar, The Rose, Palo Steakhouse and the ship’s most elevated dining offering, Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallerment.

Reveals Still to Come

While there’s plenty here to unpack about the new ship, Disney has kept quiet about a few details it will reveal at a later date. Since we know that the Treasure shares the Wish’s same basic layout, we also know there are a few key spaces that we haven’t learned about yet.

First up, Disney confirmed that Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge will be exclusive to the Disney Wish. They also confirmed that Star Wars: Cargo Bay in Disney’s Oceaneer Club will be the only dedicated Star Wars-themed space on the Treasure. This means that secluded, immersive space will get a totally different theme.

We also haven’t yet learned what’s planned for the space occupied by whimsical piano bar Nightingale’s on the Disney Wish.

Other reveals yet to come include plans for the second Marvel show in Worlds of Marvel. Disney also announced that a brand-new Broadway-style show is coming to the Walt Disney Theatre on the Disney Treasure.

What else do we hope to learn about the Disney Wish? Haunted Mansion has been teased on multiple occasions on promotional materials about the Disney Treasure, so we anxiously await details about how the famous Disney Parks attraction that has yielded multiple films might be represented on the ship. We also have yet to learn about deck parties and entertainment. Will the Disney Treasure have a Pirate Night deck party? And there’s one more famous franchise on our wish list for this adventure-themed ship — Indiana Jones!

When You Can Book Your Cruise on the Disney Treasure

Following the Disney Treasure’s seven-night Eastern Caribbean maiden voyage from Port Canaveral on Dec. 21, 2024, the ship will sail an inaugural season of seven-night itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean out of Port Canaveral. Bookings open to all guests on Sept. 20, 2023, with Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club members able to book as early as Sept. 12, 2023. Learn more at disneycruise.com/treasure.

Disney Wish Dining Rotation: The Best Restaurant Order (& Why!)

images from each of the three restaurants on the Disney Wish dining rotation

In October, my family and I went on a 4-night cruise on the Disney Wish. (You can take a tour of our deluxe family room with a HUGE verandah .) Several weeks before, I figured out the Disney Wish dining rotation pattern and put in a request for my preferred schedule.

Yes, you can really do that – and I got what I wanted!

I’m going to discuss all the available Disney Wish dining options (and we used ALL but one of them) to explain how I arrived at my preferred dining schedule.

The Disney Wish food was truly outstanding no matter where or what we ate – though some restaurants were certainly better than others.

Disney Wish Dining & Food Options

Main dining restaurants, 1923 restaurant.

The only MDR (main dining room) without any kind of dinner show, 1923 is named for the year Walt founded the Walt Disney Company.

There are two dining rooms: the Roy O. Disney room and the Walt E. Disney room.

the 1923 Walt Disney side restaurant sign on the Disney Wish cruise ship

It is an elegant restaurant with a 1920s theme (you’ll see many cruisers dressed to match), filled with glass cases showing off sketches, storyboards, and props from dozens of Disney movies.

Rapunzel artwork featured in the 1923 restaurant on the Disney Wish

The layout is tight , and it’s difficult to leave for the restroom during dinner without clashing with servers.

On the other hand, 1923 has some of the best food on the whole ship (it was a very close second favorite for us). We also found it to have the strongest cocktails. 😉

the Buena Vista Boulevardier cocktail with chocolate disc topper from the 1923 restaurant on the Disney Wish

A sit-down embarkation lunch is usually offered in 1923, likely because it is the closest restaurant to where you board and exit the ship (you’ll see it on your left when embarking).

By the way: 1923 is on the same deck as the Disney Wish Star Wars bar ! This makes Hyperspace Lounge a great choice for a pre- or post-dinner cocktail.

Arendelle (The Disney Wish Frozen Restaurant)

Arendelle was my favorite of all the Disney Wish dining rooms. That could be because we spent so much time in it!

the Arendelle restaurant sign on the Disney Wish cruise ship

There’s a long hallway that leads to the restaurant, just like the one Anna rides her bike through in the movie – complete with knights of armor, a grandfather clock, and Joan of Arc artwork.

split image showing three items in the hallway leading to the Arendelle restaurant on the DIsney Wish: a suit of armor, a grandfather clock, and a replica of Joan of Arc artwork

Arendelle is the most spacious of the three main restaurants, with high ceilings and one giant dining room with a stage in the middle.

The wallpaper, artwork, and other decorations were very beautiful, just like it looks in the castle in Frozen .

During your dinner, there’s a dinner show filled with music, dancing, and all your favorite characters. They perform onstage as well as walking around to each individual table!

The food at Arendelle was, to us, the best on the entire ship, from the appetizers to the entrees and most certainly to the desserts.

Worlds of Marvel Restaurant

The Marvel restaurant on the Disney Wish was a loud, somewhat intense experience.

Whether or not that’s bad depends on your desires and perception.

the Worlds of Marvel restaurant sign on the Disney Wish cruise ship

Worlds of Marvel is very heavily themed around Ant-Man and The Wasp, with the walls and decor making you feel like you’re inside a futuristic laboratory.

Giant TVs are on every single wall, and a “real” Quantum core is on every table.

a glowing replica Quantum Core on a table in Worlds of Marvel on the Disney Wish

The dinner show (which mostly takes place on TV screens, save for a special appearance near the end) is extremely distracting.

The din of everyone talking sometimes makes it hard to hear what the characters are saying.

Even when Ant-Man and The Wasp aren’t talking to you on screen, there are clips from Marvel movies playing throughout the entire dinner.

Our kids’ eyes were fixed on the screen behind my husband and me the whole time. Funnily enough, this was the only dinner on the whole cruise where they ate all their food! (Mindless nibbling, perhaps?)

Unfortunately, we found the food to be lacking in a lot of things at Worlds of Marvel. For food allegedly inspired by Wakanda and other locales from the superhero series, it was remarkably bland.

The best parts, to us, were actually the bread service with red bell pepper dip at the beginning and the Pym doughnut sundae at the end.

split image showing red marble bread and bell pepper dipping sauce on one side and a doughnut sundae on the other

Adult-Only Restaurants

There are two restaurants on the Disney Wish where children are not allowed to eat. We didn’t get an opportunity to eat in them, but I did get to take a tour of one while it was totally empty!

On a three-night cruise, I personally wouldn’t want to eat dinner at either of these and miss out on any of the great Disney Wish restaurants that are included in your fare.

For a four-night cruise, however, Pirate Night is a great night to try and grab a dinner reservation, as the pirate menu is… not great.

But if you can snag a brunch (or dessert experience), go for it – because they are hard to get on this ship!

PALO Steakhouse

A mix of Italian and American cuisine, PALO on the Wish has a subtle theme around Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast.

Both brunch and dinner are served here with a reservation, and both have an upcharge (either prix fixe or a la carte).

Enchante on the Disney Wish

Featuring French cuisine and the highest elegance, Enchante is the most expensive restaurant on the Wish.

the Enchante restaurant sign on the Disney Wish

If you’re not a foodie, you may be surprised by the tiny portions served for the money (though many courses are provided).

Just like PALO, Enchante offers brunch as well as dinner reservations.

They also have a Dessert Experience with several courses of sweets (with the option to pair them with various wines).

I was devastated when I wasn’t able to book the Dessert Experience at the Enchante restaurant because Beauty and the Beast is my all-time favorite Disney princess movie (and I didn’t want to miss the regular dinners).

Fortunately, they were kind enough to allow me into the restaurant to take pictures one morning when there wasn’t a brunch happening. I had the whole place to myself!

Disney Wish Buffets

Marceline market on the disney wish.

There’s only one true buffet on the Wish, and that’s the Market. While there’s no actual Marceline Market menu, the food offered throughout our cruise remained pretty consistent for each meal.

Marceline Market sign on the Disney Wish cruise ship

My favorite Disney Wish breakfast, by far, was at Marceline Market. They had eggs benedict ready-to-go every day, topped with hollandaise sauce – my favorite!

I always grabbed it with a side of bacon or sausage (they had turkey options available too!).

After washing it down with a glass of POG juice (or some nice, hot coffee), I would have a perfectly covered chocolate donut as a “breakfast dessert.”

There are five food stations on each side of the “loop” (and they are the same on each side). At breakfast, they included various types of eggs, meat, and potatoes, Asian-inspired fare, kid-friendly waffles and pancakes, pastries, yogurts, fruits, and even a cereal bar.

At lunch, we found the offerings much more varied. While that meant there were fewer things to choose from that we personally liked, that means it’s much more likely to have something that everybody likes.

Naturally, my favorite station at lunchtime was the dessert counter. If you need a fix of free sweets while on board, Marceline Market is without a doubt the place to go!

Marceline Market is NOT open for dinner.

Festival of Foods

The Festival of Foods is a series of quick-service stations that loop around one end of the pool deck. The five stations include barbecue, Mexican, pizza, burgers and hot dogs, and soft-serve ice cream.

I’m not going to lie – while we enjoyed our dinners in the main dining room, my favorite food during the cruise actually came from these stations!

I preferred getting a bratwurst or a slice of pizza followed by some banana ice cream over anything I could get at Marceline Market.

The kids also loved being able to eat a cheeseburger after swimming – so they could hop right back into the pool afterward.

Unfortunately, the only station that seemed to be open at dinner time was Daisy’s Pizza Pies… Thought this would certainly have been more than adequate if we hadn’t wanted to dine in our scheduled restaurant.

Disney Wish Room Service

We ended up ordering room service way more than I expected, considering how many other places there were to eat on the ship.

The first day after embarking, we weren’t hungry enough for a full lunch, so we ordered a fruit and cheese plate to nibble on instead. That night, I ordered coffee to have for the morning (their carafes stay hot all night!).

Midday the next day, we ordered Mickey bars, and chocolate cake (and enjoyed some still-hot coffee) while we relaxed for a bit in the room.

slice of room service chocolate cake on the Disney Wish

The following morning, we had room service breakfast so we could get dressed and get in line to meet Spider-Man early. We were able to order muffins, bagels, donuts, fruit, chocolate milk, apple juice, and coffee!

That same afternoon, my son and husband wanted to spend a few hours hanging out (they are easily tired), so we ordered ANOTHER fruit and cheese plate and Mickey bars.

We didn’t use room service for any full meals other than breakfast, but there was definitely enough on the menu to do so.

The Disney Wish Dining Rotation Pattern

Disclaimer: While the following information is usually true, Disney sometimes changes up their rotation pattern on certain cruises.

If you have a specially-themed cruise or are cruising during a holiday, these rotations may not be accurate. You can call DCL at 1-800-951-3532 to inquire about your specific cruise’s dining rotations!

3-Night Cruise

Since there are only three main restaurants on the Wish, you will eat in each of them one time on a three-night cruise.

Instead of a special pirate menu on Pirate Night, you’ll get to experience the special cuisine offered in each dining room. You’ll also get to watch the dinner shows at Worlds of Marvel and Arendelle, even if you’re eating there on Pirate Night.

The order of rotation is as follows: 1923, Worlds of Marvel, Arendelle.

So if you’re assigned Worlds of Marvel on your first night, you’d eat at Arendelle next, then 1923.

If you start at Arendelle, you’ll eat at 1923 next, with your final dinner at Worlds of Marvel.

4-Night Cruise

With four nights on the Wish, you’ll repeat one restaurant on Pirate Night. You’ll also get to order your food from a special pirate-themed menu!

The order of rotation is the same as the three-night cruises: 1923, Worlds of Marvel, then Arendelle.

But the repeated restaurant is on the third night of the cruise with an ABBC pattern.

So if you eat at 1923 on embarkation day, you’ll eat at Worlds of Marvel the following two nights, then at Arendelle on the last night.

Our Chosen Disney Wish Dining Rotation

I emailed Disney Cruise Line ahead of our cruise and requested that we be assigned Worlds of Marvel for our first dinner. (Check out some other useful tips in my full Disney Wish review !)

This way, I knew that Arendelle would be scheduled for nights two and three, with 1923 falling on the final evening.

On the Wish, you can also eat your final breakfast (and say goodbye to your serving team!) at the last restaurant you ate dinner in. So this made 1923 our breakfast restaurant as well.

WHY did I choose Worlds of Marvel first?

The main reason is that I had been fortunate enough to book Olaf’s Royal Picnic and tickets to the Royal Gathering of princesses on the second day of our cruise.

In my mind, that meant my daughter could keep her preferred princess/Elsa dress on all day, from meeting the princesses in the morning to the royal picnic and all the way through dinner at Arendelle.

I thought that would save us some wardrobe changes. (I was wrong, but we’ll get to that.)

Since we all really love Frozen, too, spending two nights in Arendelle sounded good.

Also, since 1923 is on the same deck where you debark the ship, I thought it was smart to be able to hop out of the restaurant after the final breakfast and walk off the ship without navigating the stairs (or busy elevators) with our bags. (I was right about that part!)

Was my rotation actually the best one to have?

Without hesitation, I say yes! I DO believe the rotation I chose was the best for our family, for several reasons.

As mentioned earlier, Worlds of Marvel is a pretty intense environment. But since it was our first night on the ship, my kids were still amped up, full of energy, and excited to experience everything.

I’d packed my son’s Spider-Man costume to wear to that dinner, and we were lucky that our luggage was delivered to our room in plenty of time to change into it before dinner.

two children, one dressed as Spider-Man, standing in front of a bronze Marvel art piece

Not everyone gets all of their luggage before dinner the first night!

Also, we thought the food at Worlds of Marvel was the worst of the three. That’s not to say it was bad – it wasn’t – but it was definitely not our favorite. So I ended up being very glad we started with it because it was all uphill after that!

However, the second day didn’t go quite as planned. First, Olaf’s Royal Picnic was bumped to the third day – so the Elsa dress was to be worn then.

Plus, my daughter decided she’d rather wear her Belle gown to meet the princesses anyway. (And since I didn’t want her wearing it to breakfast, it was a mad dash back to the room to change before the Royal Gathering!)

And finally, the second night ended up being the Halloween night on our Halloween on the High Seas Disney Wish cruise – so she wore her Isabela dress to dinner anyway (we were all Encanto characters for Halloween)!

Still, Arendelle was overall our favorite restaurant, so I was happy to eat two of our dinners there.

As for eating at 1923 on the last night, you might think it was disappointing or “boring” to the kids after the exciting shows in the other two restaurants.

NOPE. They were both so pooped by the fourth night of the cruise, they required no stimulation during dinner at all. So 1923 was actually a really nice atmosphere for taking it easy on the final evening.

We did decide to dress up a bit fancy and somewhat 1920s-ish for the meal, which my kids actually thought was cool. (My son loved wearing suspenders, and he matched his daddy.)

a family of four dressed in 1920s-style clothing on the Disney Wish

And I definitely loved eating breakfast at 1923 – both because of the coziness of the restaurant and the quick access to exit the ship when our luggage tags were called.

Final Thoughts

In the end, the dining rotation you choose will depend on your family’s plans and favorite things.

Perhaps you’ll want to start at the most low-key restaurant, 1923, and work your way up to the high-energy shows of Worlds of Marvel and then Arendelle.

Or maybe you’re a family of Avengers fanatics, and you want to spend as much time in the technologically advanced venue as possible.

But also keep this in mind: just because you request a specific dining rotation (or first night’s restaurant) doesn’t mean you are guaranteed to get it . It’s possible we just got lucky as first-time cruisers.

On the other hand, I’ve never heard of anyone requesting a specific rotation ahead of time that didn’t get it!

And now, in the Disney Cruise Line app, there’s even an option to request a certain type of table at the restaurants, such as one closest to the action or one that’s away from all the noise.

So it certainly doesn’t hurt to plan ahead and ask for what you want!

If you’d like to do some more planning ahead of your cruise on the Disney Wish, check out my post on snorkeling at Castaway Cay . It’s a must-do activity, even for total beginners (like us)!

Hi! Thank you for this article, this is extremely helpful information!

You mention that you email DCL ahead of your cruise to request a specific starting restaurant for your rotation. How far in advance did you email them? Did you have an email address for DCL or did you use the “Contact Us” web form?

Thank you!!!

Great questions!

I did not email DCL until after the Pay In Full date for our cruise had passed, which may be 60 or 120 days before the sail date (depending on the terms of your booking).

I used the form on their website here: https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/help/email/

Be sure to include your reservation number so it’s easy for them to note your preference!

Hi Michelle! On your repeated restaurant night (pirate night), is the menu the same as the other night you eat there? You mentioned a pirate-themed menu, but is it just decorated different or are there actually different dishes offered that night? Thank you!

Hi Jennifer! On Pirate Night, the menu is completely different from the other night’s menu for the same restaurant. ALL three restaurants serve the same pirate-inspired menu on Pirate Night, which includes a lot of seafood! This menu has remained the same across all Disney Cruise Line ships for a long time and is no different on the Disney Wish.

Love this article!!! Your dining rotation sounds perfect for our family.

Question…was the pirate night on your 2nd Arendelle dining day? I am trying to plan Princess Gathering and BBB for the same day we get to dine at Arendelle.

Thanks Nicole! Pirate night was our second night in Arendelle. It was actually nice to eat in there the second time without the loud entertainment – though the dinner show was SO much fun!

Things To Do Before A Disney Cruise

I f you are planning on taking a Disney cruise, it can be a little overwhelming to think of everything that you need to do before you leave. But preparing in advance will make for an even better experience, so check out this list of things to do before a Disney cruise, and get ready to cruise! Once you get on board, you’ll want to relax and enjoy your vacation.

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links, and purchasing and/or clicking on some of the links (or calling the number) in this post may result in a commission paid to us at no additional expense to you. We have traveled on one media cruise and two cruises as part of Disney Social Media Moms. I’ve paid full price for thirteen additional cruises over the years.

Things to Do Before A Disney Cruise

Get your dining time booked.

The Disney Cruise Line offers two meal times – the main seating (between 5:45 pm and 6:15 pm) and the second seating (between 8 pm and 8:30 pm). The first seating fills up quickly, so if that’s what you want, be sure to reserve it early – when you book your cruise vacation.

A waiting list is available if you are unable to find the time you want. Additionally, you can request to switch meal times once onboard. However, it’s easiest to do it in advance.

If you don’t get the time that you want, don’t worry. We typically eat pretty early at home, and once ended up with the later time because we booked our cruise last minute.

It was fine, however. Because the nightly shows generally run at the opposite times as dinner, you’re either going to eat late or watch the show late. There are lots of places to grab a quick bite if you get hungry before your seating.

Plan Your Hotel the Night Before

If you are flying into your port of call, I recommend arriving the night before. That way, you won’t have to worry about flight delays and can schedule an earlier onboard time (if that’s something you’ll need to do). During our 2022 sailing, our bags were left behind in Boston. It was great to have that extra day to wait for them to arrive before boarding.

When staying overnight, you can choose to stay by the port, at the airport, at Walt Disney World (if cruising out of Port Canaveral), or somewhere else in the area.

When we cruise out of Port Canaveral, we stay at the Hyatt Regency Orlando Airport . See reviews on TripAdvisor .

During my cruise on the Disney Magic, we decided to stay near the Miami airport at a Homewood Suites. It had a free shuttle from the airport, and is a quick ride to the Miami Cruise Port. Alternatively, you could choose to stay in South Beach, right in the center of the action. We enjoyed our stay at the Marriott Vacation Club Pulse South Beach .

Book Transportation to the Port

If you are flying to your port, you’ll need to get to the port somehow. Disney shuttle buses are available for an additional fee (depending on the port), or you can rent a car and drive to the port yourself (remember that parking at the port is available, but costs extra).

Private transportation, including car services or Uber, is also an option. For Port Canaveral, I find that Disney transportation is the best option, because it’s easy and convenient. You can also book one-way transportation if you aren’t going directly back to the airport or Walt Disney World.

Check-In As Soon As You Can

When you complete the Disney Cruise check in process, you can choose your onboard time (those who book transportation through Disney will no longer choose an onboard time) and book your excursions and special dinners.

So, when can you check in to your Disney cruise? Silver Castaway Club members (one cruise) can check in 33 days before sailing, gold members (five cruises) can check in 35 days before sailing, platinum members (ten cruises) can check in 38 days before sailing and pearl members (twenty-five cruises) can check in 40 days before sailing.

If this is your first cruise, you’ll need to wait until 30 days before sailing. Since the earlier onboard times are typically taken first sure to check in as soon as possible.

Additionally, there’s a separate booking window for reserving port excursions (including the ever-popular Castaway Cay cabanas ), adult dining, and other onboard experiences. Silver Castaway Club members (one cruise) can book 90 days before sailing, gold members (five cruises) can check in 105 days before sailing, platinum members (ten cruises) can check in 120 days before sailing and pearl members (twenty-five cruises) can check in 123 days before sailing.

Why check in early? Some excursions and Palo times do book up in advance, so you’ll get the best availability by booking early. It’s also extremely difficult to get a cabana at Castaway Cay, so you’ll want to try for one as soon as you can if you want one.

When you check-in, you’ll also fill out the guest information form and the payment authorization form for your onboard purchases, and upload your passport and headshot. Be ready with all of those things for your entire family when you check-in.

Schedule Your Excursions and Any Special Meals

When your booking window opens, you are also able to book port excursions and meals at Palo and Remy/Enchante (if your ship has Remy or Enchante). Again, these are all limited, so book as soon as possible.

You are usually not charged right away – but confirm that when booking. Changes can often be made, but you’ll want to have a good idea of what you want to do and availability may be limited when you go back in to make changes.

I’d recommend doing some research on your ports of call well before your booking window opens. Decide what types of things you want to do at each location. You’ll have lots of options, from educational things to more adventurous activities. Some families may decide to do a mix of things during their cruise.

You don’t necessarily need to do an excursion at each port. Some people choose to stay onboard because the ship can be much quieter with most people gone.

You can also opt to do your own thing – by taking a cab or just walking around the port. Research that first, however, because you want to make sure it’s safe, that you won’t get lost, and that you can definitely make it back to the ship in time for all aboard.

Booking an excursion from the cruise line can be the safer option with regards to getting back on the ship before it leaves. It will also be refunded if your cruise has to miss that port for weather or other reasons.

Special Services

If you need special services on board, like a Sharps box, a communication kit (for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing), or a wheelchair-accessible room, you can fill out a form you’ll find online during the check-in process. Because my daughter has food allergies, I like to make sure that it is noted on our reservation.

You’ll also want to call if you have any special requests. Guarantees aren’t offered, but you can always request a specific dining rotation or server. On our second sailing of the Disney Fantasy, I called and requested our favorite server who we had on our first sailing.

He was still on the ship, and they were able to make sure we got assigned to him. Of course, crew members are always moving around, so there’s no guarantee that your favorite will still be on board.

If you have a specific restaurant you love, and your cruise is at least 4 days, you may want to request that you eat at that spot more than 2 or 3 times. My kids love Animator’s Palate, so we’ve asked to be assigned to that restaurant three times on a seven-day sailing.

Sign Kids Up for Youth Clubs

Disney Cruise Line’s kids’ club is free to attend, but you’ll save time by registering your children in advance. Don’t worry – you won’t have to select attendance times! Once your kids are registered and have their bands, they can go in and out as many times as you’d like.

There are also open house times on the first day where you can go in and see what the clubs are like.

Fish Extenders

Fish extenders are totally optional, but they are a really fun way to enhance your cruise. To participate, first find your cruise on Facebook and join your cruise group.

Then you can sign up for a fish extender exchange if someone is organizing one. Then, you’ll need to buy/make a fish extender to hang on the “fish” near your stateroom door.

Finally, you’ll need to make or purchase a bunch of fun little treats for your fellow cruisers.

My kids love prepping our fish extender gifts before we leave, and then always enjoy coming back to the room for a new surprise. It’s a lot of work, but can be rewarding.

Here’s everything you need to know about Fish Extenders .

Dining, Food & Beverages – Frequently Asked Questions

Can I request to share a table at dinner with specific Guests?

Disney Cruise Line policy is to seat all Guests in your stateroom at the same table. At the time of booking, you may specify other people to sit with who will also be on board.

Otherwise, assignments will be made to fill all the tables. We do our best to match dining groups. For instance, adults without children will dine together, while families will be seated with other families.

Types of Dining Experiences on Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Food - Roast Duck breast and leg on a plate with a dark sauce

A Disney cruise offers a variety of dining options to suit every taste, from gourmet foodies to fussy eaters. Here are the main types of dining experiences you’ll encounter on a Disney cruise.

Rotational Dining on Disney Cruises

Disney Cruise Line’s Rotational Dining introduces a novel approach to dining, blending variety with familiarity. My wife and I are big fans of this system, as it brings a delightful element of surprise to our meals.

In the Rotational Dining system, you’ll visit three main dining restaurants during your cruise, changing the venue each night . This rotation lets you appreciate the unique ambiance, theme, and menu of each restaurant, ensuring that you experience them all.

You don’t need to make a reservation for the nightly dinner service — you simply pick a dining time when you book your cruise. You’ll select either early/main dining (usually around 5:45 PM), or late/second dining (typically around 8:00 PM). As you board the ship, you’ll receive a dining rotation that shows which restaurant you’re assigned to for each night of the cruise.

One of the standout features of this system is the consistent service. Your serving team travels with you from restaurant to restaurant, quickly becoming familiar with your personal preferences, dietary requirements, and even your favorite dessert, leading to a truly personalized dining experience.

Here’s a glimpse into the dining rotation on each ship:

  • On Disney Magic , the rotation includes Lumiere’s, Animator’s Palate, and Rapunzel’s Royal Table.
  • The Disney Wonder features Triton’s, Animator’s Palate, and Tiana’s Place.
  • On Disney Dream , you’ll experience Royal Palace, Animator’s Palate, and Enchanted Garden.
  • Disney Fantasy also includes Royal Court and Animator’s Palate but with the Enchanted Garden as the third venue.
  • And finally, Disney Wish introduces Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure, Worlds of Marvel, and 1923.

Disney Cruise Food - Prime Rib on a plate with potatoes and vegetables

Every meal becomes a highlight of the day, bringing the excitement of a new setting combined with the comfort of familiar faces in our serving team. For my wife and I, the variety offered by Rotational Dining transforms each meal into its own unique adventure.

Buffet Dining

Disney Cruise Line’s buffet dining options, like Cabanas on four Disney ships and the new Marceline Market on Disney Wish, offer a casual, diverse culinary experience. Both buffet venues feature an extensive selection of dishes for breakfast and lunch in a free-flowing dining environment, allowing guests to enjoy a variety of dishes at their leisure.

At Cabanas , guests can start their day with a classic American breakfast featuring made-to-order omelets, scrambled eggs, sausages, and Mickey-shaped waffles. Lunch transitions into contemporary favorites like salads, soups, burgers, sandwiches, steak, chicken, seafood, and pizza. Vegetarian options and a kid-friendly menu are also available.

Cabanas’ décor is designed to evoke the relaxed ambiance of a beach boardwalk, complete with sweeping sea views through floor-to-ceiling windows and on an outdoor patio. The nautical-themed setting is enhanced with a stunning 30-foot-long mosaic depicting a scene from Pixar’s Finding Nemo.

Disney Wish enhances the buffet experience with Marceline Market , a unique venue housing a series of themed food stations. Inspired by international marketplaces, the restaurant offers a wide range of international dishes, including Italian staples, Asian specialties, comfort food, and seafood specialties.

Dining at the buffet is included in your Disney cruise fare and offers flexibility to suit every schedule. However, because operating hours and offerings vary from day to day, please check the daily schedule.

Specialty Dining

Disney Cruise Line’s specialty dining options are perfect for guests seeking an upscale, intimate culinary experience. These adult-exclusive venues – Palo, Remy, and Enchanté – do require an extra fee and reservations, but they provide an unforgettable culinary experience.

  • Palo , available across all ships, offers Northern Italian cuisine in a sophisticated setting. The menu features a wide range of antipasti, handcrafted pasta, seafood, and delectable desserts, paired with a comprehensive wine list. Palo is my personal favorite, consistently impressing me with its atmosphere and cuisine. On the Disney Wish, Palo is enhanced as Palo Steakhouse , offering not only Italian favorites but also prime beef choices such as Australian wagyu and Japanese Kobe/Miyazaki.
  • Remy – found on Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy – delivers a superb French menu inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Ratatouille. My wife, Jaimie, is a huge fan of Remy — the impeccable service, the menu bursting with flavors, and the overall culinary experience are exceptional.
  • On the Disney Wish, Enchanté takes luxury dining up a notch. The adults-only spot serves incredible food in a stunning setting with a menu designed by a three-Michelin-starred chef.

Palo Steakhouse – Disney Wish

The specialty dining venues on Disney cruises offer a peaceful, adult-only escape amidst the bustling cruise activities. They provide an opportunity for a relaxed, romantic meal. Exceptional service, thoughtful theming, and gourmet cuisine set these dining experiences apart on any Disney cruise. Speaking from personal experience, my wife and I believe these extraordinary moments justify the additional expense and the need to dress up just a bit.

Pinocchio’s Pizzeria, a beloved feature on Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, delivers hot, fresh pizza throughout the day. On the Disney Wish, the Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods offers a selection of quick bites.

Quick-service dining is included in your Disney cruise fare, ensuring a wide selection of options for everyone in your party at no additional cost.

Character Dining Experiences

One of the unique aspects of a Disney cruise is the opportunity to dine with beloved Disney characters . These special dining events provide magical moments for kids and kids-at-heart alike.

Some of the main dining rooms offer some character interaction during dinner. For example, Louie makes appearances at Tiana’s Place on the Disney Wonder, and the Frozen dining experience on Disney Wish features all the primary characters from the films.

Arendelle Dining

Arendelle – a Frozen Dining Adventure, onboard the Disney Wish

Character breakfasts may be offered on cruises of seven nights or longer and offer the chance to pose for photos and get autographs from characters dressed in the cruise attire . It’s the perfect way to kick off your cruise day and one of the many reasons why Disney Cruise Line enjoys a reputation as the best cruise line for kids .

Additionally, the Royal Court Royal Tea Party (available for an additional fee on all ships except the Disney Wish) is a grand affair where young guests are treated like royalty . Accompanied by select Disney Princesses, guests enjoy tea, sandwiches, and pastries, along with storytelling and song performances.

The Vacationeer can provide more information about these special dining experiences.

Themed Dining Events

Disney Cruise Line takes themed dining to a whole new level with their unique dining events. These include Pirate Night , a swashbuckling celebration featuring a special menu and a grand deck party, and Frozen-themed dining on select sailings, where guests can savor Nordic-inspired dishes while interacting with beloved characters from the film.

On Marvel Day at Sea and Pixar Day at Sea sailings, guests can enjoy special themed menus inspired by their favorite movies. These dining events, complete with character appearances and entertainment, add another layer of magic to the Disney cruise experience.

In addition to meals, Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of snacks throughout the day. You can satisfy any mid-day or late-night craving with a variety of sweets and savory options.

One popular spot for a sweet treat is Eye Scream Treats , a self-service frozen dessert station where you can enjoy a (free!) swirled cone of soft-serve ice cream in various flavors. For those desiring a pastry or a caffeine kick, the adults-only Cove Café provides specialty coffees and assorted pastries.

Guests aboard Disney Dream can visit Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats , offering a delightful mix of candies, gelato, and baked goods inspired by the Wreck-It Ralph movies. On the Disney Fantasy, Sweet on You caters to guests’ sweet tooth with its handcrafted gelato, ice cream, chocolates, and an extensive selection of candies.

These snack locations are perfect for moments when a small treat is just what’s needed to satiate a sweet tooth or tide you over until the next meal. It’s important to note that while many snack options are included in your cruise fare, some items, particularly those from Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats and Sweet on You, carry an additional charge.

Room Service

Disney Cruise Line offers 24-hour complimentary room service , allowing guests to enjoy a meal or snack in the comfort of their stateroom. The room service menu features a variety of options, including sandwiches, salads, burgers, desserts, and a selection of beverages. Be sure to try the  All Hands On Deck cheese/cracker/fruit plate — it’s a repeat cruiser favorite!

You will need to pay a bit extra if you want canned sodas, specialty drinks, or prepackaged candies.

Whether you’re craving a midnight snack or prefer breakfast in bed, Disney’s room service has you covered. However, note that while the food is complimentary, gratuities for the delivery personnel are customary and not included in your cruise fare.

Lounges and Bars

Disney Cruise Line boasts a diverse range of bars and lounges catering to various moods and occasions. From refined champagne bars to dynamic sports pubs and relaxing pool bars, there’s an ideal spot for everyone.

Certain venues like Crown and Fin and O’Gills not only offer an extensive beverage selection but also provide light snacks or small-plate food options, enhancing your night out.

For those favoring an alfresco experience, pool deck bars such as Currents and Waves are perfect for a cocktail or cold beer paired with a selection of snacks.

Each Disney ship hosts a unique nightlife district, offering themed bars and lounges. For example, the Europa district on Disney Fantasy, with its European-inspired venues, offers a variety of specialty drinks and bite-sized foods.

Disney Cruise Line’s bars and lounges extend beyond relaxation and socialization; they deliver a culinary adventure with finely crafted drinks and delightful snacks amidst a magical Disney setting. Note that while many drink options are included in your cruise fare, some specialty beverages and foods may incur additional charges.

Food at Disney Cruise Line Destinations: A Tasting Tour

Disney Cruise Line’s itineraries do more than just transport guests to some of the world’s most captivating and scenic destinations; they also offer a passport to discover unique flavors and culinary traditions from across the globe. As a result of the diverse food options available at these destinations, dining becomes an adventure, allowing guests to experience local culture through their food.

Castaway Cay

Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, is a tropical paradise with great food as well. Included in your cruise fare are meals at two island dining venues, Cookie’s BBQ and Cookie’s Too BBQ , which serve a mouthwatering spread of BBQ ribs, burgers, grilled chicken, hot dogs, fresh salads, and soft-serve ice cream.

Disney Cruise Food - Cookie's BBQ entrance, showing plates stacked high and customers entering

Adults searching for a serene and relaxed dining environment can head over to Serenity Bay BBQ . This adults-only location provides the same tantalizing menu in a tranquil setting. It’s a location my wife, Jaimie, and I particularly enjoy.

Should you wish to indulge a bit more, various island bars serve a selection of tropical cocktails and beer for an additional fee.

Whether you’re savoring your meal with your toes in the sand or enjoying a fruity drink at the adults-only Serenity Bay, Castaway Cay offers a delicious taste of the tropics. See our Castaway Cay Tips page for more information.

Caribbean itineraries offer a chance to taste a medley of cuisines influenced by African, European, and Amerindian traditions. Local food vendors at various ports of call might serve up dishes like jerk chicken in Jamaica, roti in Barbados, or conch fritters in the Bahamas. If your itinerary includes a stop in Mexico, take advantage of the chance to savor authentic tacos or enchiladas.

Mediterranean

Disney’s European cruises introduce guests to a wide range of culinary traditions, especially in the Mediterranean. In Italy, you might enjoy a classic pasta dish or a slice of authentic Neapolitan pizza. In Greece, sample the traditional moussaka or a gyro filled with succulent meat and fresh tzatziki. If your cruise stops in Spain, don’t miss the chance to try paella or tapas.

Other Food Experiences on Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line also offers Port Adventures in many locations that include food tastings or cooking demonstrations, allowing guests the opportunity to learn more about the local cuisine and culture.

While dining onboard Disney Cruise Line is an experience to remember, the culinary adventures continue at each unique port of call. From local restaurants and food stalls to Disney’s very own Castaway Cay and forthcoming Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , there’s a world of flavors waiting to be discovered on your Disney Cruise Line journey.

Each dining venue on the ship features diverse menu options, many of which are suitable for vegetarians, vegans, and those with food allergies or intolerances. Guests with special dietary needs can expect to find a variety of tasty dishes, from fresh salads and grilled vegetables to unique plant-based entrees.

Disney Cruise Food - Mushroom Tart

Disney Cruise Line menus accommodate a range of dietary requirements, including gluten-free, lactose-free, Kosher, Halal, and more. However, to ensure a seamless dining experience, guests are encouraged to communicate any food allergies or special dietary needs at the time of booking. This information is then shared with the onboard team to prepare and handle your meals with utmost care.

A Disney Travel Agent from The Vacationeer can be a helpful resource in managing this process. They can assist in notifying Disney Cruise Line of any dietary needs ahead of your sailing, ensuring your dining experience is worry-free and enjoyable. Remember, the key is to communicate your needs in advance, and Disney will do its best to accommodate you.
