The company operates offices in Rostock, Germany and Chur, Switzerland and employs around 630 people from 25 different nations.
A-ROSA was established as part of the German Sea Shipping Company in 2000 and started operation in 2002 with initially two ships on the Danube. The company responded to the increasing demand for river cruises by steadily expanding its fleet. Today, the homogenous fleet consists of eleven modern vessels that meet the latest safety and environmental standards.
In the coming years, investments in the areas of product innovation, marketing and sales will further strengthen the company's premium position and quality leadership. In order to continue the growth path in the core business, the focus lays on the construction of new vessels and the expansion of the product range to include new destinations.

German-based A-Rosa Cruises operates a fleet of 10 luxurious river cruise ships on the Rhine, Danube, Rhone and Saone rivers in Europe. A-Rosa was originally established in 2000 through a joint venture between P&O Princess Cruises and a German tour company, DSR. After Carnival Corporation took over P&O, Carnival sold A-Rosa to DSR. The river cruise fleet developed through the decade and in 2009, the shares of A-Rosa were acquired by A-Rosa’s management.
Although in the past they have marketed their cruises to Europeans, 2013 marks the brand’s entrance into the North American market. Their ships are German-flagged. A new river vessel, A-Rosa Flora debuted in 2013.

A-Rosa appoints regional sales manager
A-Rosa River Cruises UK & Ireland has recruited Joe Lavers as regional sales manager (RSM) for the south.
Joe joins the river cruise line from Wendy Wu Tours where he was senior business development manager. Prior to that, he was national sales manager at Cruiseco.
Reporting to A-Rosa UK’s head of sales, Stephen Joyner, Lavers will cover the south of England and his responsibilities will mirror those responsibilities held by Sharon Wilson in the north, who was appointed in February 2022.
Lavers will provide on-the-road and virtual support to agents in his region to help grow awareness and sales for A-Rosa. He will be responsible for training agents on the brand, ensuring they are up-to-date on A-Rosa’s latest developments and products.
Stephen Joyner, head of sales at A-ROSA River Cruises UK and Ireland said: “Joe joins us at an incredibly exciting time, just weeks before we launch A-ROSA SENA in the middle of May. Our newly announced partnership with Aviate, which means agents can now book fully protected ATOL packages through us, has moved us up a level in terms of what we can offer the trade. We know how important supporting them going forward will be and having Sharon and now Joe on the team means we can cover the entire country and ensure we get everyone talking about A-ROSA.”
Commenting on his new role, Lavers added: “I’ve always been dedicated to the trade, so representing a brand that is 100% trade focused is really exciting for me. A-ROSA are bringing so many amazing and unique propositions to the market and I’m really looking forward to helping further increase their brand awareness here in the UK.”
