Poison played its first concert in four years at the kickoff show of “The Stadium Tour” at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia.

Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee played only the first five songs of the band’s much-anticipated comeback performance as he revealed he had four broken ribs. Tommy Clufetos took over drumming duties for the rest of the set.

Def Leppard battled rain for much of its performance as they closed out the bill at Truist Park.

Check out the setlists below from the opening night of “The Stadium Tour.”

POISON Plays First Show In Four Years At 'The Stadium Tour' Kickoff (Video)

POISON played its first concert in four years on Thursday (June 16) at the kickoff show of "The Stadium Tour" at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia.

The band's setlist was as follows:

01. Look What The Cat Dragged In 02. Ride The Wind 03. I Want Action 04. Talk Dirty To Me 05. Something To Believe In 06. Your Mama Don't Dance (Loggins & Messina cover) 07. Eruption (VAN HALEN cover) 08. Fallen Angel 09. Unskinny Bop 10. Drum Solo 11. Every Rose Has Its Thorn 12. Nothin' But A Good Time

POISON 's long-delayed North American trek with DEF LEPPARD , MÖTLEY CRÜE and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS was originally planned for 2020 and later moved to 2021 and then to 2022. "The Stadium Tour" will conclude on September 9 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"The Stadium Tour" marks the CRÜE 's first live dates since wrapping its 2014/2015 farewell tour. CRÜE toured with POISON back in 2011 and DEF LEPPARD teamed up with POISON for a string of road dates in 2017, but this jaunt marks the first time all four acts have hit the road together for an extended tour.

In 2018, POISON completed the "Nothin' But A Good Time" tour with CHEAP TRICK and POP EVIL .

POISON 's last album of new material was 2002's "Hollyweird" . An album of covers, "Poison'd" , followed in 2007.

Back in 2018, POISON bassist Bobby Dall said that the band "should" be making a new studio album but claimed that he didn't know if it would happen. "I'm not going to bullshit you and say there's any [new music] in the process [of being made]," he told All That Shreds . "Would I like there to be? Yes. But, it's a matter of everyone having the time. Everybody in the band has other commitments. Some members have younger children than others. So between those two issues, it's difficult, and, you know, [there are] health issues as we get older. Should we be making a new record? Yes, definitely. But will it happen? I don't know."

In a 2017 interview, POISON drummer Rikki Rockett acknowledged that part of the reason the band hasn't been motivated to work on new music has been the fact that fans rarely show interest in hearing fresh material performed live when classic rock groups go on tour. "We could write the second coming of 'Talk Dirty To Me' , and I don't know if people wanna hear it or not, and that's a frustrating thing; it really is," he said. " AEROSMITH was able to do it, but not everybody is. I mean, even THE ROLLING STONES have had problems with that in the last few years. So… I don't know. But I do think it's important to stay viable. For the 'über fans,' it's always a really, really good thing. And that's what you do it for — you do it for you, you do it for the real fans, the real true fans."

More recently, Rockett admitted that he and other members of POISON harbor some resentment toward singer Bret Michaels, whose frequent tours as a solo artist caused the band to take a five-year break from the road.

"I think we need to get away from each other and do other things, but at the same time, I think he spent a little too much time away," Rockett said. "There's definitely some resentment, but not resentment like I want him to fail. I want him to do good. I just want POISON to be important too, and I would like [him] to put a little more energy into POISON ."

In 2021, Mötley Crüe celebrated their 40th band anniversary, as well as the 40th birthday of their iconic debut album, TOO FAST FOR LOVE. The 35th anniversary of their GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS hit album is coming up on May 15. Mötley Crüe have sold over 100 million albums worldwide, achieving 7 platinum and multi-platinum albums, 9 Top 10 albums, 22 Top 40 Mainstream Rock hits, 6 Top 20 Pop singles and 3 GRAMMY nominations. The band have amassed close to 5 billion streams across digital platforms. They have over 15 million social media followers, a New York Times best-seller and a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. The band is ready to deliver an over the top stage show packed full of hit songs.

“It’s on!  We don’t think we’ve ever looked forward more to kicking off a tour than this one. We can’t wait to finally see all the fans across North America again. Get ready for a wild ride this summer!” Mötley Crüe said in a joint statement.

ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES Def Leppard are one of the most important forces in rock music. In 2019, the icons closed out a sold-out worldwide tour including a North American stadium run & headlining the UK’s Download Festival to 90k screaming fans. Def Leppard’s star continues to rise and prevail. The band have amassed a staggering 5.5 billion streams since 2018, reaching a younger 18-44 demographic that now represents 58% of their fanbase. Additionally, the band have garnered an impressive 15 million followers across their social media platforms. Def Leppard also celebrates the landmark 45 th anniversary of their formation this year, marking 45 years of legendary rock ‘n’ roll history making. Def Leppard’s influential career crosses generations and includes 110 million records sold, numerous hit singles and ground-breaking multi-platinum albums—including two of the best-selling albums of all time, Pyromania and Hysteria, both of which are certified Diamond (10x platinum).

“On behalf of the band, we’re beyond thrilled that the stadium tour is finally happening this summer … it’s been a while coming and we can’t wait to get back on stage again & we can’t wait to see you in one of the many stadiums soon!” said Joe Elliott.

POISON will be bringing a rocking real and relevant no holds barred thunderous live show to the Stadium tour this summer with the all original lineup of Bret Michaels, C.C. DeVille, Bobby Dall and Rikki Rockett. POISON will be unleashing an onslaught of hit after hit songs in its set. The humanitarian of the year, two years running, Michaels along with POISON is known to bring a unique style of passionate high energy, sincere gratitude and a positive attitude.  Michaels engages all the fans and makes it an absolute epic ride of true live music. Together With C.C.Deville on guitar, Bobby Dall on bass, and Rikki Rockett on drums POISON will rock the stadium with a chemistry that will bring a big summer mega party vibe and Michaels promises to give 1000 % on the stage as the hotter it gets the harder POISON promises to rock!!!

Poison’s Bret Michaels also added: “There are not enough words to thank the three generations of fans for making this such an exciting, record breaking, historical tour with the fastest sell outs in history at these stadiums.”

Joan Jett grew up during a time when rock ‘n’ roll was off limits to girls and women, but as a teenager, she promptly blew the door to the boys’ club right off its hinges. After forming her band the Blackhearts in 1979, with whom Jett has become a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, she has had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics “Bad Reputation,” “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” and “Crimson and Clover.” With a career that has spanned music, film, television, Broadway, and humanitarianism, Joan Jett remains a potent force and inspiration to generations of fans worldwide. As a producer, she has overseen seminal albums by Bikini Kill, and the Germs’ LA punk masterpiece ‘GI.’ Jett and Kenny Laguna (her longtime producer and music partner) co-founded Blackheart Records from the trunk of Kenny’s Cadillac after rejections from no less than 23 labels. 40 years later, Blackheart is a thriving entertainment company producing music, film and television, and continues to champion emerging bands. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts continue touring the globe with headlining shows alongside fellow rock legends like The Who, Green Day, Heart, and Foo Fighters. After two COVID-19 postponements, the group will return to the road in summer 2022 for The Stadium Tour with Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Poison. ‘Bad Reputation,’ a documentary about Jett’s life, premiered to critical acclaim at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and is now available for streaming.

“We are so excited to be back out on the road! We missed doing what we love most and can’t wait to see the fans out there again!” said Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

Emerging rock band Classless Act, signed to Better Noise Music, is set to open the tour. With the release of their single “Give It To Me” in 2021, the band has already received critical praise from the likes of rock media including SPIN, Loudwire, and more. Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee was an early follower of the band and is excited to have them join him and his bandmates on the road, saying, “I remember when we went out with Ozzy in 1984 and how it was an insane game changer!! We literally blew up after having that opportunity to play live in front of 20,000 people every f***ing night! Since then, we’ve always felt it was important to help new bands; whether it was Guns N Roses, Skid Row or so many others.  This summer we’re gonna help out Classless Act.”

THE STADIUM TOUR

We wanted to reach out to all of our amazing fans and let you know that we’ve been hard at work preparing an amazing show. Our priority during this unprecedented time is to make sure that we are being as thoughtful and responsible as possible in the decisions we are making regarding the stadium tour and that we are putting the fans’ health, well being and safety first and foremost. We are currently weighing all options and are awaiting further direction from the powers that be. Our goal is to have an official update to everyone by  June 1 outlining exactly how we will proceed. In the meantime, stay safe and healthy. We can’t wait to see you all again.

The second night of the Stadium tour has taken place, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

After Tommy Lee abandoned the Motley Crue drum stool after five songs on the first night in Atlanta , the question on everyone's lips in Miami was how he'd manage on night two. After all, drumming with broken ribs is not mean feat, especially for a powerhouse hitter like Lee.

"The fact that Tommy was told by the doctor to not play with four broken ribs and he beasted half our show is a miracle,” posted Nikki Sixx . “We are a band and are proud of his strength. He is doing the whole tour and day by day adding more songs. What a fucking animal."

Well, he managed three songs, pummelling his way through Wild Side, Shout At The Devil and Too Fast For Love before standby sticksman Tommy Clufetos took over. Lee returned later for set closer Home Sweet Home . Let's hope he recovers further before the next show at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, on Sunday night.

Below you'll find a gallery of all five artists on opening night: Def Leppard , Motley Crue , Poison, Joan Jett and Classless Act. Use the arrows to navigate through the shots.

Def Leppard, Journey and Steve Miller Announce Summer 2024 Tour

Def Leppard and Journey will embark on a U.S. stadium tour in 2024 with special guest Steve Miller Band .  Heart  and Cheap Trick will also appear in select markets.

The 23-date trek kicks off July 6 in St. Louis and is currently set to conclude Sept. 8 in Denver. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, Dec. 15. You can see the complete list of tour dates below.

"Having just completed a sensational 18-month run promoting our Diamond Star Halos album, we shall hit the boards running with a brand-new stage show and set of songs that will celebrate specific parts of our history," Def Leppard vocalist Joe Elliott said in a press release. "We may even have a surprise or two up our sleeves...so, wanna join us? See you in the summer!”

“We are thrilled to be back on the road in 2024 with so many good friends as part of this tour," Journey shared in their own statement. "No matter which city you come to this will be an amazing night of music!"

Journey and Def Leppard toured together most recently in 2018 , pairing up for a lengthy 60-show run which was one of the most successful packages of the year.

When it wrapped up, Journey and Def Leppard had played in front of over a million fans with ticket sales of more than $97 million. “We’re going to want to put our feet up a little bit, because it’s been a hell of a run," Elliott told UCR in 2018 . "I’m going to want a bit of time with the kids and the wife and the mom and my friends and my record collection and my two cats and my bike.”

The dates with Def Leppard and Journey are Heart's first officially announced concerts for 2024. The band has been inactive since 2019's  Love Alive  outing, which visited nearly 40 cities. But they'll get their feet wet with a trio of shows this month including a New Year's Eve engagement in Seattle. Both  Ann Wilson  and  Nancy Wilson  have remained active in the interim, focusing on solo work and touring with their respective bands.

Earlier this year, Ann  shared  that she and Nancy were working on new music together. She described it as being "closer to what you would have heard us originally do in the '70s, late '70s. So it's really fun, it's just exciting and inspiring." It would be the first new material from Heart since 2016's  Beautiful Broken .

ABOUT DEF LEPPARD

With more than 110 million albums sold worldwide and two prestigious Diamond Awards in the U.S., 2019 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame® inductees Def Leppard - Joe Elliott (vocals), Phil Collen (guitar), Rick Savage (bass), Vivian Campbell (guitar) and Rick Allen (drums) — continue to be one of the most important forces in rock music. Over the course of their career the band has produced a series of classic ground-breaking albums that set the bar for generations of music fans and artists alike. The group’s spectacular live shows and arsenal of hits have become synonymous with their name, leading Def Leppard to be heralded as the world’s greatest live rock band. Def Leppard’s influential career includes numerous hit singles and ground-breaking multi-platinum albums—including two of the best-selling albums of all time, Pyromania and Hysteria, capturing the group’s legendary tracks, bringing together classic Leppard hits such as “Rock of Ages”, Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Foolin.”  For the first time, in January 2018 Def Leppard debuted their full recording catalog worldwide via streaming and download platforms. As they did with the original release of their records, Def Leppard dominated the worldwide charts again, which found their albums charting in the iTunes Top 10 in more than 30 countries, including Hysteria at #3 in the US, and #5 in the UK (36 years after the album had charted at No 1 in the Billboard charts).  Def Leppard also had the #1, #2 and #3 records on the US catalog albums chart. The band have gone on to amass a staggering 5.5 billion streams since 2018, reaching a younger 18-44 demographic that now represents 58% of their fanbase. Additionally, the band have garnered an impressive 15 million followers across their social media platforms. In May 2022, Def Leppard released their twelfth studio album Diamond Star Halos. The album debuted at #1 on the Apple and Amazon Music charts. The album also scored a Top 10 debut on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart, marking the band’s eighth Top 10 album of their career, and garnered a #1 debut on Billboard’s Hard Rock chart. Diamond Star Halos had numerous Top 10 chart entries globally including a Top 5 debut in the UK. This has been followed by their 13 th studio album “Drastic Symphonies” with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2023. The album charted at no 4 in the UK album charts – their highest UK chart entry in over 32 years. Following the close of their historic 2018 co-headline stadium and arena run in North America, Def Leppard sold more than 1,000,000 tickets, a massive feat in today’s touring world. Def Leppard & Mötley Crüe topped that number yet again with another sold out North American stadium run in 2022 selling over 1.3 million tickets. As always, the group continues pushing the boundaries with their electrifying live shows.

ABOUT STEVE MILLER

Steve Miller has been a monumental presence on the American music scene for more than half a century. Miller’s Greatest Hits 1974-78 received the RIAA Diamond Award with sales of more than 15 million copies. It is among the 25 best-selling albums of all time. At the start of his career, Miller became a mainstay of the San Francisco music scene that upended American culture in the late 1960s. Beginning in the 1970s, Miller crafted a brand of pure pop that was polished, exciting, and irresistible — and that dominated radio in a way few artists have ever managed. Hit followed hit in what seemed like an endless flow: “The Joker,” “Take the Money and Run,” “Rock’n Me,” “Fly Like an Eagle,” “Jet Airliner,” and “Abracadabra,” among them. In recent years, Miller has fully immersed himself in the blues and its many byways. At the request of Wynton Marsalis, he is defining a blues pedagogy for Jazz at Lincoln Center where he has curated and headlined shows that explore the history of American music and the profound connections between the blues and jazz. He is also a member of the visiting committee of the Department of Musical Instruments at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This past September, the 2016 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and 2022 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee released J50: The Evolution of The Joker to mark the 50th anniversary of the release of multi-million seller, iconic album, and single “The Joker.” With each listen the beauty and immediacy of his work, at its most playful or most serious, is palpable. Whether he was riding the top of the charts or traveling the endless blue highways of American music, one can hear him playing and singing with conviction and precision, passion, and eloquence, and making music that is at once immediately accessible, thrillingly alive in the present, and more than able to stand the test of time.

The Garth Brooks Stadium Tour

Las vegas, nv, garth brooks plays first country concert at allegiant stadium.

Las Vegas Review-Journal

By Jason Bracelin

The marching orders came early, starting the party like a match to the wick of an M-80. “Somebody’s gotta drink that beer,” Garth Brooks sang/howled during a show opening “All Day Long.” “Somebody’s got to get all rowdy/And raise some hell in here.”

And with that, the first country concert at Allegiant Stadium was off to a start as frothy as the head of one of said beers.

“Do you remember the old stuff?” Brooks bellowed by way of introducing the next song, early hit “Rodeo.” Rhetorical question, that.

The capacity crowd of 65,000 sang the following tune, “Two of a Kind, Working on a Full House,” loud enough to nearly drown out the band at times.

“Oh, you’re serious!” Brooks exclaimed afterward.

Angel cabrera plays first u.s. tournament after serving prison sentence at american family championship, share this article.

MADISON, Wis. — There was little fanfare Friday afternoon for Angel Cabrera as he finished his first round at the American Family Insurance Championship at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, as he shot 1-over 73 in his first professional round in the United States since September 2020.

Fewer than a hundred fans politely clapped as Cabrera ended his round with a birdie, but the day itself was an important one for the 54-year-old in that it was another step in resuming his golf career following a prison term for gender violence.

“Yes, yes, it’s a new beginning,” Cabrera said via interpreter and caddie Ruben Yorio. “It’s a great future ahead.”

Cabrera was released on Aug. 4, 2023, but did not secure a visa to play in the U.S. until late May. He entered the AmFam and the Dick’s Open, June 21-23, on the strength of his status as a major champion, but it only allowed him a place on the alternate list.

His spot was guaranteed when the tournament offered him a sponsor exemption.

“I’m very thankful for American Family for inviting me,” Cabrera said, via Yorio. “I played with one of the (employees Thursday in the pro-am). I’m very thankful to all the people. Good course, good tournament. I can’t be more thankful to everyone.”

Cabrera, playing alongside Scott McCarron and Scott Dunlap, began the day on the back nine and made the turn at 2-over, balancing two birdies against two bogeys, a double bogey – and some nerves. After a bogey on No. 3 – his 12th hole – he settled in and closed his final seven holes at 2-under.

“I feel good,” Cabrera said, via Yorio. “I like to play golf. I hit some really good shots, I missed some easy shots, but in general I feel pretty good on the course and with the people I played with.”

Cabrera’s formal return Friday to the U.S. concluded a nearly four-year absence from professional golf that began with his arrest in Brazil in January 2021 after leaving Argentina without authorization while under investigation for domestic violence.

A trip to the U.S. in 2020 – when he last played on the PGA Tour Champions – was also unauthorized, which led to the filing of an Interpol warrant for his arrest.

Jailed for six months in Brazil, Cabrera was extradited back to Argentina on charges of assault, theft and legal intimidation of former partner Cecilia Torres Mana. He not only was convicted on those charges, but also on a separate 2022 assault charge on former partner Micaela Escudero as well.

In the December 2023 / January 2024 edition of Golf Digest, Cabrera said, “I refused to listen to anyone and did what I wanted, how I wanted and when I wanted. That was wrong. I ask Micaela for forgiveness. I ask Celia for forgiveness. They had the bad luck of being with me when I was at my worst. I wasn’t the devil, but I did bad things.

“I am deeply embarrassed because I disappointed the people closest to me — and everyone who loves me through golf,” he said. “Golf gave me everything, and I know I will never be able to repay the debt I owe this sport.”

Inmates with good behavior were allowed visits with partners and Cabrera and Yamila Alvarez had a child while he was imprisoned. The couple married in October 2023 and the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions rescinded his suspension in December 2023.

Cabrera tried to return to the U.S. on a temporary visa in time to play in the Masters in April, but the 2009 champion was denied entry to the country.

Before this week’s competition in Madison, Cabrera has played in the PGA Tour Champions Trophy Hassan II in Morocco, Spain, the Korn Ferry Tour’s Argentine Open and the Barbados Legends Championship.

Goodnight... and what a night it was

We're all catching our collective breath after an incredible performance from Taylor Swift at Murrayfield Stadium.

Thanks for following it with us.

Goodnight from us all.

Swift is a force of nature

stadium tour who plays first

Mark Savage

BBC Music correspondent reporting from Murrayfield

And that’s a wrap.

I’ve seen the Eras tour a lot of times, via livestreams, TikToks and in the cinema. But nothing can prepare you for the live experience.

Taylor is a force of nature.

Three-and-a-half hours in the spotlight, yet she makes it seem like she’s singing to every individual audience member.

So many little moments were tweaked to make the show specific to Edinburgh - which, she said, inspired the lush, arable soundscapes of her Folklore album.

The fans around me were rapt, from young children to grandads in sparkly jackets.

And on the other side of the stadium, a proposal.

It’s amazing to think Taylor will have to perform this 210-minute feat of endurance again tomorrow and Sunday. If you can scrounge a ticket, don’t miss it.

Karma seals the deal

This is it: The last song of the night.

Karma is a weird and funny entry in Swift’s catalogue – an ode to her former enemies, as she watches their downfall with a cat purring on her lap, thus making her the pop equivalent of Ernst Blofeld.

But there’s a valedictory air to the song that makes it a fitting concert closer. The lesson, Taylor appears to be saying, is that good things come to those who wait; and bad deeds will catch up with us.(She says it without the clichés, though).

And just as Miss Americana set out the opening thesis of the show, Karma is a celebration of the star's longevity.

“Ask me what I learned from all those years / Ask me what I earned from all those tears.

“ Ask me why so many fade, but I'm still here / I'm still here, I'm still here."

Get ready for the confetti cannons!

Taylor: One more song Edinburgh, is that alright?

taylor swift

It's time for the final song of the night, it's time for Karma.

Ahead of the song, Swift addresses the crowd once more: “Edinburgh you have given us everything you could possibly have given us tonight.

"I would like to ask for one more song of your time. Is that alright?”

Drawing to a close

For Swifties, it's been a dream of a day of making new friendships and singing at the top of their voices but night one of the UK Eras Tour is drawing to a close.

The crowd shows no signs of letting up though and joins Swift in singing Mastermind.

Midnights like this

Next up on the Midnight era, it's Midnight Rain.

Continuing with fan favourites from her 10th album, Swift performs Vigilante Shit followed by Bejeweled.

Time for another classic... it's Anti-Hero

Undoubtedly another classic in Swift's arsenal, it's time for catchy earworm, Anti-Hero.

The lead single from Midnights, Anti-Hero was played over 17.4m times globally in the 24 hours following its release on Spotify, making it the biggest opening day for a song in the platform's history.

A look into the Lavender Haze

Where has all the time gone? It only seemed to begin a couple of minutes ago, but we’re already in the final era of The Eras show.

This is Midnights, her 10th album, from 2022, which marked a return to pop after the acoustic musings of her pandemic-era albums.

The sequence begins with Taylor’s infamous“stage dive” stunt, after which she re-emerges in a faux fur coat, to sing the breezily upbeat love song Lavender Haze.

Coming up in this section, we’ll also see a giant-sized Taylor terrorising a city during Anti-Hero, and a Fosse-style chair dance during Vigilante.

Welcome to Midnights

We are on the final era of the evening but the party is not over yet.

Swift kicks off the Midnights era with Lavender Haze.

Second surprise...

Before we move onto the final era of the evening, there is one more surprise song.

The second surprise song is...

'Tis The Damn Season, from the Folklore album.

What were we saying about Taylor having the fans in the palm of her hand?

Well, it must have taken its toll as the singer has to have another pause when her hand seizes up.

“This has never happened before, it’s so embarrassing. It’s like a claw.”

After massaging her palm for a second she’s able to keep going.

Swift pauses to check on fans

Taylor notices some people having difficulty at the front of the audience and holds a chord for a looooong time.

“I’m just gonna keep playing until someone notices them. We’re not going to keep singing. We’re going to keep talking until the people in front of me get help.”

“Are we good?” she says as the medical team reach them.

Time for the surprise songs...

“Welcome to the acoustic section,” announces Taylor.

“This is a tradition I started on the Eras Tour where I do a different thing every night.

“Tonight I have a feeling the song I want you to hear is going to match up with what you want to hear.”

Her first choice is Would’ve Should’ve Could’ve from Midnights.

The secret is just about out

And now to the moment a lot of fans have been waiting for – the acoustic set, where Taylor traditionally performs two “surprise songs” that don’t feature in the usual setlist

.Fans have been speculating all day about the tracks she’ll pick for Edinburgh. Some suggested Castles Crumbling, from Speak Now, as a reference to Edinburgh Castle.

Others were predicting Guilty As Sin, as it references the Glaswegian new wave band Blue Nile.

It won’t be long until we find out.

A look at I Can Do It With a Broken Heart

I Can Do It With A Broken Heart is the last song of the Tortured Poets segment – and it’s an intriguing addition to include on the setlist.

The lyric is essentially about the Eras Tour itself, with Taylor talking about the stamina and determination she needed to keep performing last year, while simultaneously dealing with a brutal break-up.

“Breaking down, I hit the floor / All the pieces of me shattered as the crowd was chanting, ‘More’.”

“I was grinning like I'm winning, I was hitting my marks / 'Cause I can do it with a broken heart.”

As the song starts, she appears to collapse onto a sofa in the shape of a broken heart, and two circus ringmasters appear to revive her and force her back out to face the crowd.

This is either an incredible feat of meta-narrative dexterity, or the moment where the snake eats its tail.

It's almost time for some surprises...

The Tortured Poets Department era is drawing to a close for the evening and anticipation is building in the arena for the much-speculated-upon surprise songs.

First though, it's I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.

Every song an instant classic

The phenomenon of the Tortured Poets Department was announced to fans during an award acceptance speech by Swift in February.

Despite being only released in April, it's clear the songs are instant classics in the eyes of the fans.

Swift continues by performing the Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.

Two-and-a-half hours into the show and there is no let-up...from Swift or the crowd

The Murrayfield crowd belts out the lyrics as Swift kicks off Down Bad followed closely by Fortnight.

Truth, dare and spin the bottles

Continuing with the Tortured Poets Department, it's So High School.

The song echoes the sound of music Taylor Swift and other millennials would have enjoyed in high school, being likened to Avril Lavigne.

Then it's... Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?

"You should be."

IN PICTURES: Swift has the Swifties in the palm of her hand

It has been an awesome show so far, with Taylor Swift leaving the Murrayfield crowd breathless.

Artists Are Canceling Arena Tours Right and Left. Maybe They Shouldn’t Have Been Playing Arenas in the First Place

stadium tour who plays first

This is an edition of the newsletter Pulling Weeds With Chris Black, in which the columnist weighs in on hot topics in culture. Sign up here to get it in your inbox every Thursday.

Last week, the Black Keys, a band best known for soundtracking car commercials and occasionally fistfighting fellow Nashville resident Jack White, canceled the entire North American leg of a scheduled arena tour without explanation. Why would a band without a major hit in years think it can sell out arenas in tertiary markets? No one can be sure, but the touring business is in trouble, and part of the reason is ego.

Going on tour used to be a non-negotiable part of a life in music—a way to interact with fans, make money, and see the world. But nowadays, artists either want to play arenas or stadiums or do a residency, playing multiple nights in one city at the same venue, à la Harry Styles and Adele. Every week, another artist goes viral on Twitter for low ticket sales, with a screengrab of a Ticketmaster seat map awash in blue. I will be at the Charli XCX and Troye Sivan show in New York City at Madison Square Garden, but can that duo sell as many tickets in Tacoma on a weeknight? Kim Petras, an artist with hits, had such an awful time with arenas that she resorted to Groupon. And legacy artists aren’t necessarily faring better; for every Justin Timberlake, who just added nine dates to his Forget Tomorrow world tour, there’s a Jennifer Lopez, who recently cut her upcoming summer greatest-hits tour short by seven dates , reportedly due to soft ticket sales.

The Taylor Swifts of the world are still making money on the road, and artists from Wednesday and Waxahatchee to Chappel Roan and Joanna Newsom are selling out shows at great venues. But big arena tours have historically been sustained by early ticket sales, and that part of the market appears to be collapsing. The Twitter account @UnderFaceValue tracks price drops and undersold shows and “other peculiarities across the ticketing ecosystem”; its mantra, because soft sales translate into crazy 11th-hour price breaks, is #PaysToWait. If you’d waited for the right moment, you could have seen the Rolling Stones in Seattle for $29, 21 Savage in Chicago for $19, or George Strait and Chris Stapleton in Indianapolis for $13.

These challenges hit close to home for me. My cohost Jason Stewart and I take our podcast, How Long Gone, on the road. We experienced a high point in Philadelphia at Johnny Brenda’s, a cozy spot in Fishtown with a rich history. The show was a sellout, the crowd was fantastic. The next time we visited, we stepped up to a bigger venue, World Cafe Live. The turnout was decent, but it didn’t reach the same level of energy, and the experience felt different. We're heading back to Philadelphia in June, and we've decided to return to Johnny Brenda’s . It's a lesson learned: Better to have a packed house in an intimate setting than a half-empty room in a larger venue. The ego bruise was temporary, but the lesson was invaluable.

So, who do we blame? Is this the fault of corporate mega-promoters like LiveNation (which produced the Black Keys’ tour) booking artists into the biggest venues possible, then jacking the price of everything from tickets to parking to concessions, all regardless of what the market will bear, while tightening their grip on the marketplace to the point that the Department of Justice is preparing to sue them in federal court for antitrust violations ? Is it agents and managers gassing up the artist? Is it just the artist's desire to sell out these giant venues? Maybe all of the above.

If you’re going out on the road and you’re big enough to even consider booking an arena show, why not do three nights in a prestigious venue like Radio City Music Hall or the Beacon Theatre instead? It provides fans with a more intimate experience, and every night will feel full. The Black Keys eventually released a statement . They didn’t blame anyone. They didn’t whine about how hard touring is. They just said they were recalibrating after a successful European run playing venues like Brixton Academy in London and the Zenith in Paris. It was the right approach. We all know it was ticket sales, but no artist should be ashamed of taking your lumps, switching things up, and selling tickets.

Big streaming numbers look great online but don’t necessarily translate to ticket sales. A touring business has to be built, returning to the same cities every year. A career cannot rely solely on the algorithm. Being great live will get people through the door and keep them coming back. These offline collective experiences are few and far between these days; buying tickets and going to shows is essential and valuable. They just don’t all need to be in arenas.
