Elevating the Voyage: Virgin Voyages’ Rockstar VS. Mega Rockstar Experiences

virgin mega rock star vs rock star cabins

A Review & Comparison of Virgin Voyages Rockstar and Mega Rockstar Levels

I sailed on the Scarlet Lady twice this year, the first in July as Rockstar on the Mayan Sol itinerary, and just recently as Mega on Dominican Daze, both 5 night sailings out of Miami.

I found looking at reviews very helpful while deciding which experience would be better for our trips and deciding on what to book, so I’m hoping this comparison of Virgin Voyages Rockstar vs Mega Rockstar experiences can be helpful for our readers.

  • The Mega Rockstar status is truly built for hosting and entertaining.
  • I’m a little unsure about whether or not the Mega Rockstar experience & price are worth it for most people
  • The biggest difference between Rockstar and Mega Rockstar is the alcohol.

Arrival and Boarding: Effortless and Exclusive

We drove to the port of Miami and parked in the garage for both trips. The process of parking is simple, though on our first cruise, there were multiple cruises sailing out on the same day so it took a little time and patience to get around to Terminal V.

We didn’t realize there was a separate luggage drop-off for Rockstars so we dropped at the main area, but our bags were still in our room about 5 minutes after we got there. We also didn’t realize we could drop our bags before parking and had to lug them from the garage. On the second cruise, we dropped first and then parked and it was much easier.

As Mega Rockstars, transportation is included in your cruise booking price and also includes covering your parking fee if you drive, which is a nice bonus (you will receive a card at debarkation to comp this). You can arrange transportation prior to the cruise and the cruise line will send someone to your hotel to retrieve you & your luggage!

Our boarding time for both cruises was 1:30, we arrived at the terminal around 1ish and quickly got signed in and escorted to a waiting area for Rockstars with snacks and some drinks. They then collect the deck 15/Mega Rockstars for first boarding followed by Rockstars.

As Rockstars, we were directed to the Manor where the agents were available to help book reservations for dining, shows, or classes. It was helpful to have their guidance as I had some issues with the wifi at first – not sure what they did with my phone settings, but whatever the agent did it made it work better. We also met our dedicated Rockstar agent here. Once we were done we could head up to our rooms or wherever we wanted.

For Mega Rockstar boarding we were first on the ship – they still gave us Moet, since they love their bubbles on Virgin, but we were directed to go directly to our rooms to meet our Rockstar Agent there. We waited around about 30 minutes and ended up just booking everything ourselves in the app, and by that point were hungry so we went to the galley to grab some food.

It ended up being about an hour and a half after we had initially boarded before our Agent came to our room to see if we had any requests or wanted him to get us booked for any shows – basically as Mega Rockstar he said we were guaranteed to get into any show we wanted, but I’m not sure if he would have been able to get us into any booked up classes so I’m glad we went ahead and booked those ourselves before they filled up.

Rockstar vs. Mega Rockstar: A Comparative Experience

We booked a Brilliant Suite for both sailings, but I bid on an upgrade to the Gorgeous Suite for our second and got it (I was informed about 4 days before sailing) The minimum bid was about $1500 and I bid $1650 – I didn’t expect to win the bid, thinking the offer was too low, but figured I might as well try! For reference, the other Mega Rockstar rooms had minimum bids of $3500+ and I just couldn’t think about spending that much.

Both Rockstars and Mega Rockstars have some great perks. What I find most “worth it” for the cost of booking the Rockstar experience is the access to Richard’s Rooftop and the VIP area of Bimini Beach Club. As someone who prefers quiet, relaxing trips and not so much loud, crowded parties, it was really nice to have these quieter spaces to spend my time.

Dedicated Rockstar Agent

You have a dedicated Rockstar Agent for both levels. As a Rockstar, our agent checked in with us constantly, helped send us reminders about excursions and happenings, and set up ship eats orders for us. We love having coffee on the balcony in the morning and she was able to arrange daily ship eats delivery for us even when the times we wanted were booked up already in the app. Our agent was amazing and really set the bar high.

As Mega Rockstar, your agent is supposedly a little more hands-on. I feel like our Rockstar agent was more attentive and visible, but some of the main differences were that our Mega Rockstar agent took care of things himself. He was the one who brought us coffee and any room service orders (he even brought us specific latte orders instead of just the basic ship eats coffee). We were also able to have food from the Galley brought to us, and while I was told we could do that for any open restaurant, we preferred our dinners out so we didn’t try that perk.

The Mega Rockstar agent was also able to reschedule one of our dinner times when it overlapped with a show we wanted to see, even though the time wasn’t available for regular booking. We probably didn’t take advantage of all of the special requests we could have made (we’re pretty easy people), but we did request a bridge tour and he was able to make it happen for us – a very cool experience!

Included bar setup as a Rockstar or Mega Rockstar sailor

The biggest difference between Rockstar and Mega Rockstar is the alcohol. For context, we aren’t major drinkers. We like 1-2 drinks per day on vacation, occasionally a few more depending.

As Rockstars, we had the in-room mini-bar set up. We were allowed to make swaps on the first day (but no special requests – we didn’t want the rum so we were able to swap for tequila, but it had to be the same kind of tequila that was already there). We didn’t even touch the stuff and ended up bringing it all home. We did take advantage of MoĂ«t hour on Richard’s Rooftop and then had a $300 bar tab between the two of us that we honestly didn’t use all of.

As Mega Rockstars we received the same bar setup, but it gets replenished if anything is finished. We only opened one bottle of gin to share with some new friends and had a new bottle in its place the next morning. In addition, all drinks under $25/each are unlimited, you can get 2 $90 or under bottles of wine daily (we didn’t even get any of those), and anything over $25/$90 you pay for but get a 25% discount.

Rockstar suites get: Half bottles of rum, gin, whisky/bourbon, vodka tequila, white wine, rose wine, red wine, and most champagne. Two cans each of Heineken beer and Wynwood ale. Some RedBull and some premium tonic water.

You can swap out 2-3 bottles by talking to your agent (so replace the gin with more vodka for example.

Don’t forget rockstars also get unlimited Moet at Richards Rooftop 5-6pm each night.

We only did Moet hour on the first night because there were just so many drink options that it was overwhelming, and the champagne hour didn’t seem as exciting when we could drink pretty much whatever we wanted at any time. Safe to say, if you sail Mega Rockstar, don’t bother buying a bar tab unless you’re planning on drinking a lot of really expensive stuff.

A few extra bits of info when booking a Rockstar suite

Worth noting:

Unlimited access to the thermal spa that came with being a Mega Rockstar – This isn’t something I would usually pay for outright but was a great way to relax a bit.

Squid Ink – I had originally read in an article/review somewhere that Rockstars could get an early consultation at Squid Ink for tattoos, however when we asked our agent upon boarding he told us that was the one thing that he couldn’t help us with and we’d need to just go wait in line for it. It wasn’t a big deal, but I figured it’s good to know in case anyone else has read that same review! (I passed on the tattoo experience)

Accommodation: Suites of Serenity

We sailed in the Brilliant Suite and Gorgeous Suite – they’re basically the same room layout, but the Gorgeous has a bigger balcony with lounge chairs. As someone who could spend a good portion of the day on the balcony watching the water, this was part of what made the upgrade worth it

Virgin Voyages Rockstar Suite

Our Brilliant Suite was on deck 14. I have read reviews about noise levels on deck 14 since you’re under the pool, but honestly, the only night we had any noise issues in the room was Scarlet Night, but the music shut off pretty promptly at midnight when the party moved inside. It was definitely shaking until then though. Other than that I never heard anyone moving chairs around or anything. The biggest noise issue was actually our neighbors who liked to blast music starting around 1 am, but that’s a gamble you get with any room on any ship.

Our Gorgeous Suite was on 15 under the Sun Club and at promptly 7:10 every morning the staff started moving chairs and tables. I’m an early riser so it didn’t bother me much as I was already awake, but definitely something to note if you like to sleep in. I think it might be a little better if you are further forward, but it was definitely loud. Scarlet Night was moved indoors on our sailing so can’t say whether it was quieter or not. It was disappointing to be paying so much for the high-level room and have it be super noisy.

Bimini: A Haven of Relaxation

My favorite thing about Bimini was the Rockstar area because there were tons of seats available on the beach all day and it was far away from the loud pool party (which just isn’t my vibe). The food at Bimini was fantastic – we were most looking forward to that when we returned on our second trip. Overall the only complaint – and even this is minimal – is that part of the Rockstar perks includes more private transportation to and from the beach club on a golf cart instead of the big tram. What we experienced on both trips was having to wait a very long time for the private transportation. In the time it took to wait for the private golf cars to come pick us up at the club, 3 regular teams went by. We ended up just taking the regular tram back. It really was not a big deal, but if they’re going to highlight it as a perk of paying for Rockstar status, they should really make it an actual perk and not a hassle. They could also do with some better signage at the port for the separate pick-up area for Rockstars.

A few other things To Note

As Mega Rockstars, we had premium wifi included. On our first sailing we didn’t pay for premium and from here out I always will, it was just so much smoother.

We weren’t told this upfront but as Rockstars you get priority seating for some of the shows in the Manor. Get there right before doors open and there will be a separate rockstar line. We only found this out because for one show we were standing in line and someone in front of us told us she thought there was a separate Rockstar line, and then one of the agents pulled us out of the regular line.

Is the Rockstar or Mega Rockstar experience worth it?

In summary, the Rockstar tier offers significant value for those seeking a blend of relaxation and luxury, while the Mega Rockstar tier caters to those who desire an elevated level of service and indulgence. I likely won’t ever sail as non-rockstar because the perks are just worth the cost for us.

I feel like the difference I always end up emphasizing is that Mega Rockstar status is really built for hosting and entertaining. It’s great if you’re going with a group or you like hosting parties and making friends. If you’re looking just for benefits for yourself, I definitely see more value in regular Rockstar.

Conclusion: A Voyage & Experience Worth Repeating

Both sailings left an indelible mark, and I eagerly anticipate my next voyage with Virgin Voyages. The Rockstar experience aligns perfectly with my preference for a peaceful, luxurious journey. Next year’s adventure aboard the Valiant Lady beckons, promising new experiences and the same exceptional service.

Do you have a comment?

Did we miss something? Have you had a different experience? Did we get it wrong?

Mega Rockstar Suites

The top end Mega Rockstar suites include services beyond a Rockstar cabin with unlimited drinks, spa access, transfers and more but is it worth it?

virgin voyages rock star

A level of luxury far above the Rockstar Suite comes the Mega Rockstar level with unlimited drinks, spa access and more perks offering the absolute Virgin Voyages experience.

The Mega Rockstar Suite Experience

A step above the standard Rockstar experience , Mega Rockstars receive all of the above plus exclusive additional benefits reserved for the largest type of room.

  • Mega Rockstar Suites : Building on top of the already large Rockstar suites the Mega Rockstar suites offer some of the biggest spaces on board with large balconies with showers and significant entertaining area. These suites also sleep up to 4 people.
  • Exclusive Location: All Mega Rockstar suites are located on Deck 15 making getting to The Galley or Aquatic Club (Pool Deck) a breeze. This is especially great for the Scarlet Night Pool Party as you can quickly change after jumping in the pool !
  • Bottomless In-Room Mini Bar : With the same drinks as the Rockstar cabins, Mega Rockstars receive a daily top up of your in-room mini bar by 12pm each day with a replacement of each type of drink if already drank.
  • “Unlimited” Drinks: Building on top of the bottomless in-room mini bar Mega Rockstars can enjoy unlimited drinks at the many bars around the ship . There is a fair use policy of this of any drink priced below $25 and a maximum of two bottles of alcohol a day below $90 . Any drink or wine bottle beyond this will receive a 25% discount but will not be discounted, for example a $32 drink would be charged at $24.
  • Daily Access to the Thermal Suite: Typically charged at up to $59 for 3 hours, Mega Rockstars can enter the Thermal Suite at any point during their voyage as long as the spa is open.
  • Private Transfer to the Ship: Depending on where your ship is embarking/disembarking Virgin Voyages may offer private transfers to the ship up to 50 miles, look out from an email from Red Glove Services. For those in Miami they can also offer complimentary parking for your car should you choose not to get a private transfer.
  • Premium WiFi : Enjoy unlimited streaming and video calling WiFi services, a step above the basic WiFi.
  • Dining in your Room: With help from your Rockstar agent you are able to get any meals from any of the six main restaurants on board delivered to your room to enjoy a special night in. One downside of this perk is that all courses will arrive at once.
  • Daily Laundry :  Fill up a bag of laundry and get express delivery for free to your suite every day on board. This is a great cost saving as laundry on board can be quite expensive with no self service launderette.

Some additional benefits that are subject to availability include access to The Tentacle Tour , Bridge Tours, Secret Events and more. Keep in mind that these are not guarantees for your experience and are invite only events.

A wide-shot of a pool party with many people dancing, most dressed in red. A large inflatable octopus sits behind the pool

Types of Suites:

  • Gorgeous Suites
  • Massive Suites
  • Posh Suites

Is It Worth It?

If you appreciate the absolute best that a cruise line can offer then you might find the Mega Rockstar Suite to be a great choice for a more luxurious cruising experience. It creates an experience where you don’t need to worry about drinks, access to the spa, hard to get bookings and more.

However the Rockstar experience  still offers an unparalleled experience and depending on how much you drink can be a better option cost wise.

Offering Private Jet Transfers for Virgin Voyages’ RockStar Sailors

From Virgin Atlantic to Virgin Galactic, when it comes to flight, the sky is never the limit for the Virgin family  — it’s where we thrive. So we had to ask ourselves, how do we bring our taste for celestial soaring to the sea?

Here at Virgin Voyages, we’re excited to announce RockStar Private Jet Transfers. Inspired by the signature red running track on our first ship aptly referred to as, “The Runway”, for ship two we’re expanding the elite RockStar experience for our Sailors while pushing the boundaries of what a “runway” should be. And no, a fashion runway wasn’t going to cut it for our second grand appearance at sea. Unless of course you think private jets should strut — in which case, yes, this is the catwalk to end all catwalks.  “From the sky to the sea, our RockStar Quarters Sailors will truly live the glamorous life of a rockstar icon from the moment they begin their holiday. Why walk aboard the ship when you can fly,” said Tom McAlpin, president and CEO of Virgin Voyages.  Using a curved design at the aft of the ship — we’ve engineered a runway large enough to land our private jet and bring our most elite Sailors directly to their voyage. All Sailors with RockStar status will be glamorously piloted from their hometown by way of our Virgin Voyages’ Private Jet.  But we didn’t stop with the VIP private jet transfer — RockStar Quarters Sailors will be living their best lives with early access to onboard entertainment, restaurants and Shore Things. After stepping off their private jet (no big deal), RockStar Quarters Sailors will have their very own wardrobe team to help unpack and repack, complimentary pressing and nightly express swimsuit drying service — leaving RockStar Sailors like rock and roll royalty.  With our second ship, we’re challenging ourselves to expand the idea of rebellious luxe; and offering our Sailors the most life-changing experiences whether it be on land, at sea or in the sky.

Cool Cruiser

Did you visit the rock star retreat at Bimini? I haven't been able to find much much description and I'm wondering what makes it special.

Yes we did it’s a really nice seating area very comfortable outdoor couch’s .

Biggest difference is for the lunch you have waitress service while  the other food service is more like a buffet.  The club and Bimimi is absolutely beautiful.

How much was your daily bar tab?

Omgirl

For mega rock stars (sorry I have a lot of questions)

1. How were your roadies? What kinds of things were they able to assist with?  2. were the drink pairings at test kitchen included in the “daily bar tab”?  3. Did you use their service to unpack/ pack? If so how did that go?

4. Did you use the laundry service? How was that?  5. did you go on the grog walk and if so did you have to pay or was it included in the “daily bar tab”?

6. How is Richard’s rooftop? Is there food up there or only drinks?  7. Did you get to go to the “secret bar” or bridge tour or anything else specifically for rockstars / mega rockstars?

thanks for offering to answer questions

we are going for a belated honeymoon first anniversary May 22

My best to answer these in order

1.Alexander  was our roadie he was awesome!  He changed all of our dinner reservations because my wife did not like the times that I had picked. Got us into every show  we wanted. Gave us a beautiful fruit platter a bottle of champagne for anniversary dinner. Not the small little bottle that’s included in the room but the big bottle.

2 The drink pairings were not included we did pay extra for those in test kitchen .

3 I wanted them to unpack but I was overruled by the wife so we didn’t use that service

4 We did use the laundry service for our bathing suits a couple days just leave them in the bag and they come back the next day folded and dry beautiful

5 No Grog we missed it we were eating dinner it’s only offered on the first night

6 Richard rooftop is like your own private retreat there’s no food but there’s a bar at 5o’clock to bring around complimentary champagne and a hot tub all to our self most of the time it’s beautiful

7 We did not find the secret bar but we did get a Really cool bridge tour

Couple of things I did notice whatever restaurant we ate at we always had it seem like the best table in the restaurant overlooking the ocean  if there was a window.

The bar tab is $25 a drink and two bottles up to $95 Per day.  The unlimited bar in the room truly is unlimited.

Once you open something they give you a brand new bottle the next day even if you only took a sip out of it.  One thing they  don’t mention anywhere it seems like you have your own private housekeeper he  came in at least three or four times a day and tidied up the room.

A beautiful Brand new Chevy suburban picked us up from Fort Lauderdale and brought us back to Fort Lauderdale after the cruise was over.

It was worth every single penny we spent!

Thank you so much for answering all my questions! I really appreciate it. Sounds like you rocked it! We couldn’t be more excited about our trip. Thanks for adding to the excitement..

Hi Craig. Thanks for the information. I sail in 3 weeks with my daughter.

Did you try out the Spa?

We are in the Massive Suite, due to 4 cancellations and the rolling over of FCC. It looks like the people enjoying Richard's Rooftop can look directly down onto the outdoor area of the Suite. Is this true? I am probably the last person anyone would want to gawk down on but it is giving me a moment of worry!

We are being picked up from our Hotel. The only correspondence I got was that they received my request and will "see us then". Do they make more firm arrangements closer to the day of?

The people in riches rooftop can look down into the massive  suites but it’s very difficult the glass is high and it has a tint to it. I would not worry about my privacy it’s very private.  about two weeks ago I received an email from virgin with all the information for the car service it was very detailed and gave the pick up time and any and extra phone numbers to call in case the car was not there.  Our pick up time was 1 PM the car was there at 12:30 in our driveway waiting.   Upon our return to the dock our pick up time was 11 AM the driver called me at 10 and said he was there on the dock waiting for us it was very very smooth.  Yes we tried to spa went to the mudroom the steam room the salt room and the hot and cold plunge pools.  Not really a spa person but it was fun,  clean and very relaxing. They  give you these extra thick robes and nice slippers to wear.  One of the nicest things were being a deck 15 is once you walk out towards the galley there’s a bar that has fresh squeezed juice.  It’s the only place on the ship you can get fresh squeeze juice and it’s awesome.  There is another bar that does it down on the deck 7 but they never seem to be open.

Thank you Craig. You have been very helpful!

Hi! We just upgraded ourselves from a Seriously Suite to a Gorgeous suite and are now Seriously Stoked about this cruise!!! Do you have any photos from your Gorgeous suite? I was just on a Celebrity cruise and saw Scarlet Lady in port of Miami and Cozumel and she is absolutely beautiful - that grey and red colour scheme is just so striking!

Will you be booking VV again do you think? Once a mega Rockstar always a mega rockstar?

No pictures I can share but rest assumed it’s exactly like advertised on the web site.  We got a great deal on our mega Rock star suite, I don’t know if we can afford it again.

Our next cruise will be in August and booked a seriously suite.

Thanks for sharing your experience. We’re booked in a Gorgeous Suite in November.

I’m just checking that the daily bar tab is $25 total or you pay extra for drinks the exceed $25? We drink espresso with breakfast so drinks always add up pretty quick.

Unlimited drinks up to $25 per drink, and 2 bottles of wine up to $90 each/day.  If whatever you want is above those limits, you unfortunately have to pay the full amount.

Makes NO sense for some of them, like the bottles of Moet that are $95 when you "shake for champagne" (so you'd have to pay every time you did that!) but free by the glass within your $25/drink limit.

Thanks for the clarification on the bar tab, our first time on VV so triple checking everything.

I totally agree it’s silly that you can have unlimited amount of glasses vs having to pay for a bottle. I’ve read that NCL will apply your drink credit to a purchase.

Thank you, Craig! A gf and I just upgraded to the Gorgeous suite for our November 2022 cruise. We're very excited about living the posh life on our cruise.

What's this about a secret bar? Anyone have more details? My travel companion has indicated her perfect vacation away from the hubby and little consists of sleeping, drinking, and the occasional meal. So, if I could locate for her a secret bar I suspect her life would be complete.  đŸ€Ł

Not sure if they're using it yet, but there's a teeeeeeensy bar by the medical center called IV.  The crew we spoke to in December said they were basically using it as a storage room because it was too small to socially distance (this was even before they ramped up COVID protocols).

I've also read that some people get invited to the crew bar as well as a private magic show in the wee hours, but not sure how you get those invites!

Thanks, @_tacocat_ !

I wonder if a polite hint dropped to the fabulous roadie might secure a special invite. Or simply being nice to fun crew members.  Hopefully by November this pandemic has calmed down to an endemic dull roar.

There's also a lot of backstage invites and secret drinking done on Scarlet Night.

We were taken to a private bar to 'hear the tale' of the event, given a few shots and sent on our way.

I can also confirm the slight-of-hand magic act.  It's one of the members of the Cirque-like troupe, but they're talented enough to pull it off.  Close up magic is by-far the most difficult thing to do well.

We’re hopeful for things to settle down by November as well. Have a short RCL cruise  out of LA booked for May, but really looking forward to a longer trip in November.

Peek at Virgin Voyages' RockStar Suites

A render image of Virgin Voyages' ship Scarlet Lady

Virgin Voyages has revealed the RockStar Suites bringing a touch of luxury to its first ship, Scarlet Lady, which will set sail in 2020.

Sailing holidays were once exclusive affairs that only the richest travellers could afford. While not just for the elite anymore, Virgin Voyages is bringing that legendary glamour back to the seas with these deliberately detailed, top tier spaces.

“We were inspired by historic vessels of the past that exuded charm and luxury,” Dee Cooper, senior vice president of design for Virgin Voyages, said. “We wanted to inject a bit of exclusive, distinctive, luxurious feeling nostalgia in a contemporary way that speaks to today’s traveller more.”

Designed by the team at Virgin Voyages and world-renowned Tom Dixon Design Research Studio, the spaces encourage connection with the sea while featuring all the details that a Sailor might need to live out their rockstar dreams (minus actually recording a Grammy-winning album).

The balcony of the corner suite terrace on board Virgin Voyages

The suites are steeped in the Virgin rock and roll heritage, with nods to icons such as Grace Jones. They feature a retro-futurism design with deep blues and iridescent dichroic elements in the bathroom to echo the deep blue sea.

The Virgin Voyages suite features bespoke Tom Dixon furniture pieces, including large glam vanity tables and European king beds that sit above terrazzo flooring. Every little detail has been considered, right down to the nautically inspired barware kit drawer so that Sailors have all the tools for mixing beverages that they might need.

The rooms also feature sensors that auto-adjust the cabin to Sailor movements, also allowing the lighting to easily change from day to evening play mode.

“We wanted to use all aspects of the Virgin brand including our musical legacy, elements of Virgin Galactic and inspiration from Richard Branson ’s Necker Island,” added Jamie Douglas, Senior Product Design Manager for Virgin Voyages. “The idea was to consider Sailor needs and comforts and create suites that were social, inspirational and relaxing so that they wanted to spend time in them.”

Scarlet Lady will feature 78 RockStar Suites, including 15 Mega RockStar Suites, known as the Massive, Fab, Posh and Gorgeous Suites – all in prime locations on deck 15. This is just one deck below Richard’s Rooftop, a Richard Branson-inspired top deck cocktail lounge, which will be exclusive to RockStar Suite Sailors.

Virgin Voyages' Massive Suite features a music room, which seconds as an extra bedroom, and is stocked with guitars, an amp and a special private lookout point at the front of the ship, perfect for the meditative Sailor. The terrace in this suite also features a standing hot tub, a runway-style table for hosting guests and as in all four Mega Star Suites, an open-air Peek-a-View showers, offering the chance to gaze at the sea while rinsing off.

All tiers of RockStar Suites feature top to bottom marble bathrooms, stocked with premium products of course. The showers feature multi-coloured dichroic glass windows and doors, providing a sneaky view into the room or out to the sea, in the aptly named Peek-a-Boo shower.

RockStar Sailors can expect the full treatment, including private driver airport transfers, helicopter arrangements, luggage assistance and a private walk down the exclusive terminal pathway upon arrival. RockStar Sailors will also receive anytime boarding, early booking access to special events and personal rock and roll style rider sheets to satisfy even the most diva-like of requests.

Virgin Voyages is open for bookings now. Find out more on the Virgin Voyages website .

The 9 best party cruises for 2024.

The best party cruises have something fun for everyone.

The Best Party Cruises

You won't be bored on a party cruise.

The magic of a cruise vacation is created with culinary delights, exotic ports of call, comfortable accommodations, carefully curated spaces and, of course, parties. These onboard celebrations can take many forms: large dance parties and quiet lounges, family-friendly and adults-only, adrenaline-pumping and relaxing activities, elegant and come-as-you-are events, and entire ships transformed into themed cruises .

Prepare for fun times on the following ships hosting the best party cruises at sea.

Royal Caribbean: Oasis of the Seas

Explore the eastern and western Caribbean aboard Oasis of the Seas , one of the largest cruise ships in the world. On this 6,771-passenger vessel, 18 decks of fun and 2,109 crew members await your next voyage.

  • Bionic Bar: For late-night parties where "mixology meets technology," order cocktails from unexpected bartenders: robots! These two specialized tech creations are well-versed in classic alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails, and they can also mix a bespoke drink designed by you.
  • Adrenaline-pumping amenities: Get ready for day and night thrills at four separate venues. Ripcord by iFly is billed as the only skydiving simulator at sea; North Star allows cruisers to snap stunning photos from the tallest viewing deck found on any cruise ship; Sky Pad provides a virtual reality experience while patrons jump on a bungee trampoline; and the Ultimate Abyss, named the tallest slide at sea, plunges 10 stories down.
  • Surprise events: Scattered throughout the ship are several surprise activities that pop up among the scheduled itinerary of events. Join a toga party; boogie at a disco brigade; dress for a masquerade party; or transport back in time at an '80s-inspired extravaganza.

Carnival: Liberty

Cruise for two to 14 days through the Caribbean, Bahamas or Panama Canal on the 2,974-passenger Carnival Liberty . In addition to decks of party fun, cruisers can dine at eateries designed by famous chefs, watch live sports and movies under the stars, and enjoy activities with the kids.

  • Sailaway Party/Mega Deck Party: Get the party started on launch day at the Sailaway Party, where all passengers can gather for music, dancing, drinks and smiles. Then, see everyone again at the open-air Mega Deck Party under the stars on the Lido Deck, complete with more dancing, games and giveaways.
  • RedFrog Rum Bar and BlueIguana Tequila Bar: Taste the flavors of the tropics at these two popular venues for drinks, music and good times. Choose from a chill menu of cocktails and specialty beer while you stay cool by the pool.
  • Fun and games: If parties with your friends include spirited competition, this is your ship. In addition to showing off your skills on the basketball court and obstacle-filled mini golf course, play cornhole, sign up for the scavenger hunt and compete in art games. Then, try your luck gambling in the casino, playing bingo, and joining the "Deal or No Deal" onboard game show.

These luxury cruises are here to blow your mind with amenities such as private butler service, world-class spas, delicious cuisine (hello, 24/7 complimentary caviar!) and palatial cabins with expansive ocean views, private jacuzzis and more.

Whether your idea of the perfect vacation is a European river adventure, an adults-only South Pacific cruise, or a party-all-night Caribbean rendezvous, there’s a cruise for you. To prove it, we rounded up the seven best cruises for couples. Check out these romantic options, below.

<p>If you’re looking to book a beautiful vacation on and off the ship, Crystal Cruises is worth considering. The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E.ĐČЂЇKilunovskaya and V. A.ĐČЂЇSemenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Keywords: Tuva, Early Iron Age, early Scythian period, Aldy-Bel culture, barrow, burial in the coffin, mummy, full genome sequencing, aDNA

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

virgin voyages rock star

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

virgin voyages rock star

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

virgin voyages rock star

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

virgin voyages rock star

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
