Travelling chic with one of my favourite perfumes : Dior J’adore, J’adore travel!

November 18, 2012 Paris B 49 Comments

If there’s one thing I love other than beauty ( naturallement !) is travel. Its what keeps me going at work, knowing that what I do helps fund my wanderlust. And when I travel, I rarely carry my favourite scents with me, because a) I don’t have miniatures of them;  b) some if not all bottles aren’t travel friendly and c) I don’t decant anything much less fragrances. So, when I received a surprise gift of the J’adore Purse Spray for my birthday ,  I could not contain a little squeal of delight. Here finally, was one of my favourite scents in a travel spray!

Thinking of my future travels/purchases definitely gets me through the day too! Work to live, not live to work 😉 I tend not to take my favourite perfumes away, but buy more where I’m going! So naughty!

November 21, 2012 at 1:15 pm

Not naughty, Sam – smart! 😉 Some people buy perfumes when they travel so it serves as a momento of their holiday.

this is such an awesome idea! i do decant fav perfumes into those tiny spray bottle, but the trouble is the refilling part. just get a good quality bottle and it never spills

November 21, 2012 at 1:16 pm

I’m a little afraid of decanting to be honest but I hear the Travalo bottles are good. I was always curious though – what happens if you want to change perfumes?

' src=

November 18, 2012 at 9:28 am

I use 2 Travalos for daily wear because perfumes don’t seem to last on me (even EdPs!). I find that it’s really easy to refill and not all perfume houses do purse sprays. I’m currently wearing Clean’s Skin (a very unique barely there perfume which smells like you have clean skin LOL) and Paul Smith’s Rose (which I always get complimented on).

I sniffed Clean’s Fresh Laundry (I think that’s what its called) and it totally smelled like fresh laundry so I get what you mean by clean skin! So many people recommend Travalo. Looks like I’ll have to give it a go 🙂

November 21, 2012 at 2:40 pm

Some people had problems with their Travalos leaking in-flight but I haven’t had the chance to test it out yet. I just keep mine in my handbag for on the go touchup.

I did sniff Fresh Laundry and cotton T-shirt but they didn’t smell as good on me.

You lucky girl! I did think it’s a lipstick to start with. What gorgeous design!!

November 21, 2012 at 1:17 pm

I guess I am, Tammy! It sure does look like a lipstick doesn’t it? So sleek!

' src=

November 18, 2012 at 9:56 am

I like the case… classy. Good for you Paris. Now you can travel with your favourite scent! Usually when I travel, I’ll bring my favourite scent with me. If I have the miniature/travel size at hand, I’ll bring it. Otherwise… hehe, I’ll just bring the regular bottle :p I don’t have the confidence to decant, haha! Too expensive to make a mistake with.

November 21, 2012 at 1:18 pm

Wow Rin, you actually pack the full bottles? I’m always so afraid of them breaking so I tend to just use the sample vials LOL

' src=

November 18, 2012 at 11:20 am

I bought a Travalo set because my favourite scent is discontinued and I only have the large bottles stocked up. Nowadays, I tend to look out for smaller sizes too because they are so much more portable. Too bad I’m not a fan of Jadore, else I’d be all over this new travel kit.

' src=

November 18, 2012 at 11:43 am

Yay for Travalos! I think they’re very handy 🙂

November 21, 2012 at 1:19 pm

Ok looks like I have to check out Travalo. How do you handle changing different scents? Or do you use one per scent?

November 21, 2012 at 1:28 pm

I haven’t tried changing scents yet so I’m not sure how easy it would be to clean out. But I’ve checked the Travalo website and it seems pretty straight forward. My set came with 2 bottles and I think I purchased from an airport or flight.

November 18, 2012 at 11:42 am

Oh I read about this. I think there’s another for Miss Dior too. I have 2 Travalos so I don’t have a problem with bringing perfumes with me…. even though they’re really not the same compared to yours here. It’s gorgeous!

November 21, 2012 at 1:20 pm

So many people talking about Travalos I guess I’d have to take a look at them! 🙂 How do you switch scents with those though? Or do you just use one per scent? That’s what tends to bug me too LOL!

' src=

November 18, 2012 at 12:59 pm

Such a lovely and thoughtful gift! I don’t bring perfume when I travel simply because I don’t have a miniature in my favourite and the fact that when I travel, I am really dressed up like one and perfume is optional. Personally I’ve always loved Ralph Lauren perfume and my true love is Romance 🙂 I only have a gigantic bottle which is a hazard to travel with. J’adore is enticing when it was first launched, somehow it reminded me of the tribal long necked women and I think I have long neck too…

November 21, 2012 at 1:22 pm

Ahh Romance! I remember that I really loved it when it was first launched. I managed to get a miniature but for some weird reason, a few months later, it didn’t smell as good on me anymore. Its so frustrating when that happens! 😛 I tend to travel really grungy too, but I keep a little bottle of perfume on hand because it helps you smell good if you don’t, and if you have a nice place to go to in the evenings, you need a nice scent to go with that 😉

' src=

November 18, 2012 at 2:40 pm

I never buy miniature or anything like above, eyh, why I never think about it? I should buy one for travel because bringing the full sized perfume in my handbag is quite troublesome (too fragile, sometimes when Im searching for keys,or tissues,I have the tendency to drop it out of the bag, happened once, cried and regretted). If Im running out of secured space in my bag,I only bring spray deodorant that smells nice and long lasting such as Adidas for Women. Otherwise,I would dump everything into my bag for the sake of ‘just-in-case’.

November 21, 2012 at 1:24 pm

Wow, you carry your full sizes with you? I salute you! 😉 A friend I know carries a miniature in her bag so she can freshen up throughout the day. I thought it was genius. Sometimes, a little spritz of perfume can make a difference between a good day and a bad one 🙂 I have to know this, Juanneth – what bag do you use? It must be huge! LOL!

November 27, 2012 at 4:57 am

Agreeable! Too many to mention Paris, but you’re right, they are all huge. Anyone who knows me would knows that I’m abusive towards my handbags and they’re often called ‘poket Doraemon’. Somehow,I think oversized ones is a practical handbag. It can be double up as a weapon or emmm….. a pillow. Ooops!

November 29, 2012 at 5:33 pm

“Poket Doraemon” LOL!! I was quite taken by the big bag trend once, but my back couldn’t take it anymore.

' src=

November 18, 2012 at 4:56 pm

Very clever traveler … Sleek too… I wonder do they sell the case for public?

November 21, 2012 at 1:25 pm

Hmm… not that I know of, Shija. You have to buy the first set, but I suppose once you are done with the scents, you can wash out the bottle then use it for your other fragrances? I’m just guessing, really… but that’s an excellent idea 😛

' src=

November 18, 2012 at 5:24 pm

Oh, this is nice!

November 21, 2012 at 1:27 pm

Eyeing either of them? 😉

November 21, 2012 at 11:47 pm

Yep, love the travel one. Think it’s really genius of Dior to hide their perfume in the Addict Extreme kind of packaging, pulling the tube out… =D

' src=

November 18, 2012 at 5:57 pm

Oooh! This is much larger than I had expected — I think, with the packaging, I was anticipating something almost lipstick-sized? I am absolutely loving the design of these, though; very purse-safe and portable.

(P.S. I don’t decant, either. I’d like to be able to, but I’m just not coordinated enough for it! Anything worth travelling with would be too headache-inducing if I made a mess of it, but I’m not against taking carded samples or Sephora-decanted samples with me instead :P)

I know right, Rae? I originally thought it would be smaller too but I like this size. Its big enough yet small enough, if that made any sense at all. Like you, I’m afraid of my poor motor skills. Emptying a bottle of perfume all over my table isn’t my idea of a home scent 😉

' src=

November 18, 2012 at 6:49 pm

I’ve never tried that scent before but now you’ve peaked my interest. Love the container!

Do take a sniff the next time you’re at a counter, Marla and see if it suits you 😉

' src=

November 18, 2012 at 7:59 pm

I use Travalos as well as its so convenient. It does run out pretty quickly though as you can’t fill right up n changing a scent is a bit of a pain but otherwise I love it!

Love your new travel set 🙂 I have one for Dune and its pretty as well ( but sadly I don’t use Dune).

November 21, 2012 at 1:29 pm

Ooh Petrina, you mention changing scents. How do you do that? I mean do you have to wash it out after every perfume or…?

' src=

November 19, 2012 at 12:26 am

Thats a great idea! It looks great, very elegant. I wish more brands made something like this (Yes, Jo Malone!)

Me, when I travel I take miniatures, even if they re not of my favourite scent. This way I save space and maybe discover something new 🙂

November 21, 2012 at 2:02 pm

I think its a great idea for more brands to pick this up too! I saw that Annick Goutal does a special one for Petite Cherie and it comes as a GWP here. I may have to splurge so I can take my favourite scent everywhere with me 😛 – what an excuse >.<

' src=

November 19, 2012 at 12:33 am

When I was a uni student, I had only 1 perfume and it was Romance. I found the aluminium casing glass spray bottle in muji, so I just transferred some Romance into it. In those times I didn’t have travelos so I sprayed directly into the tiny glass bottle… It worked quite well. Problem is when it’s used up and I thought of changing to a different perfume, the smell of Romance just couldn’t be rid off no matter how long I aired it dry. In the end I just put the bottle in my underwear / bra drawers which infused a little smell to my lingerie. 🙂

These days I don’t travel as often. So when I do, I’ll buy new perfume to remind me of my trip. 🙂

November 21, 2012 at 2:08 pm

“I just transferred some Romance into it” Best quote of the day LOL! 😀 I used to see the travel perfume bottles but they all looked so fiddly which is why I never wanted to try using them. It looks like Travalos come highly recommended so I might give those a go 😉 I am however worried about changing perfumes because I’m too fickle to just use one all the time.

' src=

November 19, 2012 at 5:45 am

I’m a sucker for sleek packaging and this screams out yay to me. What a great thing that this came in your favourite scent, eh?

Hey, just out of curiosity, is it Miss Dior or Miss Dior Cherie you were referring to? I don’t recall a Miss Dior scent and on googling it, it’s one of the older ones. If it’s Miss Dior Cherie (squat, fat bottle with a bow on its cap and coral-y coloured juice) I might be tempted since this is on rotation as my winter scent too 🙂

Also, you HAVE to try a travalo one day. It’s found a permanent spot in my bag in summer because a quick spritz always refreshes me 🙂

November 21, 2012 at 2:09 pm

I think its Miss Dior – Can’t keep up with all the perfumes available but I love Miss Dior Cherie too! I’m thinking once I’m done with this set of J’Adore scents, I can reuse the bottles 😀

' src=

November 19, 2012 at 8:04 am

Oh man, these look amazing! *___* Should note this down on my Christmas wish list.

November 21, 2012 at 2:10 pm

Yes! Practical, chic and absolutely gorgeous 😀

' src=

November 19, 2012 at 10:46 am

Heart the travel bottle! 😀

Do you know Chanel has a very similar travel bottle design for their fragrances too? I was that close to getting sucked into buying the Mademoiselle because of the travel bottle design. Luckily the husband was there to keep me grounded. Haha. Too bad my favorite scent doesn’t have a travel bottle like this. Now I might need to invest in one or two Travalo. Hehe. 😛

November 21, 2012 at 2:14 pm

Hmm I didn’t know that about Chanel! I can’t seem to be able to wear Chanel fragrances although I seem to remember quite liking Chance. Not that I can remember how it smells like now…

' src=

November 19, 2012 at 3:01 pm

I rarely use perfume anymore nowadays… but wouldn’t mind getting this as a gift ^.^

November 21, 2012 at 2:21 pm

Might just prompt you to start again eh? 😉

How Do You Fill a Portable Cologne Bottle?

Filling a portable cologne bottle can be a tricky task, but doing it correctly will make all the difference when youre on the go. The first step is to remove the cap and sprayer from the travel bottle. This will allow you to access the inside of the bottle and prepare it for refilling.

Next, you’ll need a funnel to pour the perfume into the travel bottle. Make sure the funnel is clean and free of any debris before using it. Be careful not to overfill the bottle, as this can cause spills and waste expensive cologne.

Once the bottle is filled and sealed, it’s ready to go! Make sure to label the bottle with the name of the cologne inside so that you can quickly identify it. Also, if you’re traveling with multiple colognes, it’s helpful to have a system to differentiate between them.

With a funnel, patience, and attention to detail, you can easily transfer your favorite cologne from a splash bottle to a travel bottle. This allows you to enjoy your favorite fragrance on the go, without having to lug around heavy and bulky bottles. Remember to always check for leaks before packing your travel bottle in your bag to ensure a safe and enjoyable fragrance experience.

Tips for Cleaning and Maintaining Your Portable Cologne Bottle

  • Always keep your cologne bottle tightly sealed to avoid leakage or evaporation of the fragrance.
  • Clean the nozzle of your cologne bottle frequently to prevent clogging or build-up.
  • Store your cologne bottle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain the quality of the fragrance.
  • Avoid storing your cologne bottle in humid areas such as the bathroom to prevent damage to the fragrance.
  • If your cologne bottle becomes dirty or sticky, clean it with a soft cloth dipped in a mixture of warm water and mild soap.
  • Don’t use abrasive materials to clean your cologne bottle as they may scratch or damage the surface.
  • Check the expiration date on your cologne bottle and replace it as needed to ensure the best quality fragrance.

Now that we understand the basic concept of a perfume atomizer, let’s explore some creative and practical ways to use it. From refreshing your living space to enhancing your personal fragrance experience, there are many ways to incorporate this handy tool into your routine.

What Do You Do With a Perfume Atomizer?

This mist can be sprayed onto the skin or clothing to produce a pleasant and long-lasting scent. The atomisers design allows the fragrance to be evenly distributed without overwhelming the senses or leaving a heavy residue on surfaces.

Using an atomiser is a convenient and portable way to apply perfume throughout the day. It can easily be carried in a purse or pocket so that you can freshen up your fragrance anytime, anywhere.

Some atomisers may have a small funnel or spout to aid in filling. Once filled, replace the cap and pump the nozzle a few times to pressurize the bottle. The spray should then be ready for use.

It’s important to properly maintain your perfume atomiser to ensure longevity and optimal performance. This includes regular cleaning of the nozzle and bottle to prevent clogs or buildup. It’s also recommended to store your atomiser in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent evaporation or alteration of the fragrance.

With proper maintenance and usage, it can provide a long-lasting and enjoyable scent experience.

How to Choose the Right Perfume Atomizer for Your Needs

  • Consider the size of the atomizer
  • Choose the type of spray you want – fine mist or direct spray
  • Look for a refillable atomizer if you want to reuse it
  • Decide if you prefer a glass or plastic atomizer
  • Check the spray mechanism to ensure it’s easy to use
  • Choose a design that suits your personal style
  • Read reviews from other customers to get an idea of the atomizer’s performance
  • Consider the price – some atomizers can be quite expensive

By following the recommended steps, you can easily refill your purse spray with ease, without compromising the quality of the fragrance. It's important to choose the right refill bottle and to handle the process with care in order to avoid spills or leaks. With a little patience and attention to detail, you can enjoy the benefits of a freshly refilled perfume spray and continue to make a statement with your signature scent.

some hotels could have been better

It was jam packed with every place I wanted to go and see. I especially love my photo of us setting out on the night time river cruise in St Petersburg and the Peter...

I really did not buy much and what I did buy was small gifts for others .

Good hotels, some better than others. Interesting itinerary

Too rushed. Optional tour rather too short

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

7-day Moscow itinerary

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

travel itinerary for one week in Moscow

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

exploring Moscow

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Moscow sights

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

top things to do in Moscow

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

one week Moscow itinerary

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

12 Stunning National Parks and Regional Parks In France

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

Moscow itinerary

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

things to do in Moscow in seven days

You Will Also Like: 3-Day London Itinerary

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

Random Russian guy

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!
