While not exactly modern, the Destroyermen books by Taylor Anderson has an obsolete fourstack destroyer and it's crew during WWII be transported to an alternate dimension where dinosaurs, lizardmen and sentient lemurs live. It's really great stuff, especially with it not shying away from the characters being faced with irreplacable losses in men and material forcing them to adapt.

So a bunch of primitive hominids, Alexander's troops, Mongol hordes, British sepoys, and future UN troops get displaced in time. I haven't read the books beyond the first one, but it fits your description

About as contrived as the notion of a 2020s German soldier going over to the Nazis. Time traveling to WW2? I've been looking for stories where the main character time travels back to WW2 and goes into the concentration camps during that time period and he gets to know people in WW2. Basically just a fanfiction where the character goes back in time and experiences life during world war 2 and concentration camps.
