Budget Trip to Kasol – How to Reduce Kasol Trip Cost

budget trip to kasol

Making a budget trip to Kasol in Parvati Valley is not really that difficult. In fact, being inexpensive is also one of the factors that helps drive tourism in this area. This is why it is a favorite among backpackers. If you planned your trip carefully, the overall cost of Kasol trip can be brought down significantly. In this article, I will provide a few tips on how you can do so.

Please note that in this article, I will only talk about Kasol trip budget. For other details like how to reach, where to stay, what to see etc, please take a look at How to Plan a Trip to Kasol – A Complete Travel Guide .

Quick Navigation

About Kasol

Kasol is a small village located in the Parvati Valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is in several ways the very heart of Parvati Valley . At an altitude of 1,580 meters (5,180 ft), the place is blessed with immense natural beauty and also acts as a base for several treks within and leading out of the Valley.

Kasol in recent years has gained tremendous popularity and the number of tourists here is on a rise. Due to a large number of Israeli tourists, it is also known as ‘Mini Israel of India’. The place is well connected with a good motorable road and has regular public transport available. The nearest airport is only 30 kilometers away in Bhuntar and local commute within Parvati Valley is not that difficult either.

How to Plan a Budget Trip to Kasol

Keeping your Kasol trip within a tight budget is fairly easy. A lot of backpackers (especially Israelis) stay here on a long term basis. So the overall cost of accommodation and food is not that high. Local commute within the valley by public transport or on foot will also not be a budget concern. The only part where it can cost you a bit is getting in and out of the valley.

Not just Kasol but the budget of a trip anywhere can be broken down into the following factors.

  • Travel Cost
  • Local Commute
  • Accommodation

Personal Expenses

Personal expense is something that no one can give you an idea of because it will entirely depend on you. But let me talk about how much it will cost you on a per-day basis for the other four factors. Multiply that with the total number of days of your trip and you will get your total cost of Kasol trip.

budget trip to kasol

Itinerary for a Budget Trip to Kasol

Let me lay down an example of an itinerary for Kasol and then I will explain how much it will cost you to travel like this.

  • Delhi / Chandigarh to Kasol – Day 1

Sightseeing in Kasol – Day 2

Trek to malana – day 3, kasol to tosh – day 4, tosh to kheerganga – day 5, kheerganga to kasol – day 6, kasol to delhi / chandigarh – day 7.

Why this itinerary? Because this week-long plan covers the entire Parvati Valley (at least the major tourist spots) and will give you an idea of the per-day cost at all these places. The only areas left are the upper reaches of the valley and other villages. But if you decide to go there and spend some time, the per-day cost will come out to be the same as Kasol or Tosh. So you can just add a day there.

Kasol Travel Cost

Let us talk about how much the travel cost to and from Kasol will come out to be. This will be your major expenditure for the first and the last day of the trip.

By Privately Owned Vehicle

Since it is a budget trip we are talking about, I do not believe that you will be traveling by your own vehicle because that will just send the overall budget shooting to the skies. But it can be a good choice if you are in a larger group. For example, if you were a group of 5-6 friends, the fuel cost can be divided and will cost you about the same as traveling by public transport.

Delhi to Kasol is about 500 kilometers and Chandigarh is at a distance of 270 kilometers. If you were traveling from a different city, google the total kilometers between your starting point and Kasol. Divide that by your vehicle’s fuel efficiency, multiply by price per liter for Diesel or Petrol and you will get the total fuel cost. Divide that among the group and you will have the per-person cost.

Almost every budget traveler will opt to travel to Kasol by Bus because this is the most cost-effective mode of travel available. The town of Manali is not too far away from Kasol and there are regular buses available on the route by HRTC, HPTDC, and several private companies. No, I am not saying that you will have to go to Manali but boarding a Bus going in that direction will be the best choice.

Finding a bus for Manali from any of the cities nearby either in day or night is not going to be difficult. Traveling by this bus, you will get down at Bhuntar which falls on the way, about 50 kilometers from Manali.

At the Bhuntar bus stand, look for a bus going to either Kasol or Manikaran. The first bus from Bhuntar to Manikaran leaves in the morning at 7 AM and then there is a bus almost every hour. This is the bus you will board and get down at Kasol.

Fare per Person

If you were coming from Delhi, the fare per person of an ordinary HRTC Bus is about Rs. 800 for Manali. From Chandigarh, this fare is Rs. 500 per person. If you boarded the AC bus, the fare will come out to be around Rs. 1200 from Delhi. Tickets for a luxury bus will cost you about Rs. 1500 – 1600. Since you will buy a ticket for Bhuntar, it will cost you slightly less.

From Bhuntar, if you could not find a bus, shared taxis are also available on a regular basis. Your fare per person for this part will not be more than Rs. 50 per person.

From Chandigarh (or a city at a similar distance) the fare will be about Rs. 500 for an ordinary bus and Rs. 800 – 1000 for a luxury AC bus.

budget of visiting kasol

The bus calculation above was for someone coming from Delhi, Chandigarh, or a place at a similar distance. But if you were coming from a place like Bangalore, Mumbai, or Kolkata, then the first leg of your trip will have to be completed on a train.

The nearest railway station to Kasol is in Joginder Nagar, at a distance of about 125 kilometers. This however is a narrow gauge rail track, similar to the Shimla Kalka toy train . There is a single train that runs between Pathankot and Joginder Nagar.

I will not recommend traveling by this because it will cost you more time and money. From your city, you will first board a train for Pathankot. Then you will board this toy train for Joginder Nagar and then you will board a Bus for Kasol. Not really the most efficient way of travel.

A better choice hence will be to first reach either Delhi or Chandigarh by train. If you were able to find a direct train, Chandigarh will be a much better choice. Once you arrive at Chandigarh, reach the bus stand and board any bus going towards Manali (like I explained above).

Whatever money you spend on the train ticket from your city will be in addition to the bus fare I explained above.

Local Commute within Parvati Valley

Now let us take a look at the local commute within Parvati Valley. The best way to explore the places near Kasol is by foot and in some cases that is the only choice available. But you cannot of course go walking everywhere so let me break it down by places.

Chalal – It is a short walk away from Kasol. You do not need a vehicle for this.

Tosh – You can board a bus till Barshaini and then walk to Tosh. Fare per person is about Rs. 30. Shared cabs are also available.

Malana – You can board a bus from Kasol to drop you at Jari and then you will have to walk to Malana gate and the village. Hiring a taxi to drop you at the Malana gate will cost about Rs. 700 – 1000 from Kasol and can be a good option if you were in a large group to share the cost. For more details, please read How to Plan a Trip to Malana .

Kheerganga – You can board a bus for Barshaini and then will have to walk to Kheerganga. Take a look at Kheerganga Trek Travel Guide for more details.

Most of the other places like Rashol, Kalga, and Pulga villages will also have to be reached on foot. At an average though, your per day commute cost within Parvati Valley will rarely exceed Rs. 100 per person.

cost of living in kasol

Accommodation Cost and Budget in Kasol

Every tourist destination develops in its own unique way. Some will attract people who can afford an expensive vacation while a few others will appeal to budget travelers. Kasol falls under the second category.

It is really a haven for backpackers and you will find people living here for months. Hence the entire place developed in a way to accommodate tourism like that. Your options for stay in Parvati Valley are a mix of hotels, guest houses, hostels, dormitories, and homestays. At an average, your total living cost will come out to be Rs. 500 per day.

This will also vary depending on several factors like your time of arrival, the place you were staying at, and your own negotiation skills. In peak tourist season, if there were a lot of people in the valley, this may go up by a couple of hundred bucks. Places like Tosh and Kheerganga will cost you a little more. The dormitories however will cost about Rs 300 per person.

Keeping everything in mind, assuming a number of Rs. 500 per day as hotel cost in Kasol will be a safer bet. If you arrived in tourist season and hotels in Kasol were charging, you should try walking to Chalal and look for a place there.

Food Cost in Kasol

One of the best things about visiting Kasol is food. There is a vast variety of restaurants and the food they serve here is simply amazing. You must try the Israeli food during the trip. The only other place where I have seen so many places to eat is Mcleodganj. In my opinion, the food options here are even better than Manali .

But this does not mean that you will end up spending a fortune on your daily meals. Fancy restaurants are available as well which may cost a little more. But for budget travelers, you can easily manage a day in Kasol spending about Rs. 300 – 400 for food. There are a lot of dhabas and eateries where the food prices are very reasonable.

Other places in Parvati Valley may cost you a little more, like Kheerganga and Tosh but nothing too significant. If you were staying at a homestay, negotiating a price that includes both food and lodging would be a wise decision.

This is something that will entirely depend on you. But since you are a budget traveler, I do not assume that you will be interested in attending parties or shopping. But if you do, you can attend a rave party if it fits into your budget. For shopping, you can try buying some cheap T-Shirts or trinkets as souvenirs.

kasol trip budget

Budget for Kasol Trip

Now let us put this all together and take a look at how much the 8 days long trip above will cost you.

Delhi to Kasol – Day 1

Assuming that you boarded an ordinary HRTC bus for Kasol, you can easily manage this day in under Rs. 1000. This will also include the money you will spend on meals during the journey. If you were coming from a city even farther, any money that you spent on the train ticket and travel expenses will be in addition to this cost.

The total cost of this day will again be under Rs. 1000. This will include an average of Rs. 500 for hotels and Rs. 300 – Rs. 400 for meals, snacks, tea, coffee, and other personal expenses. If you found accommodation for a lesser price and ate at an even cheaper place, the cost will be even less.

This day will cost you between Rs. 800 – Rs. 1000. You will keep your hotel in Kasol since you cannot stay in Malana overnight and will have to return to Kasol by evening. Buy some snacks to eat while trekking and carry water as well.

The cost of this day will come out to be close to Rs. 1000. This will include your accommodation cost in Tosh, food, and the travel cost to Barshaini.

This day may cost a little more or less, depending entirely on you. If there was no accommodation available at Kheerganga (the tents were removed by court order), you will have to make arrangements for self camping. In this case, it will surely cost a couple of thousands.

A cheaper option will be the Aashram at Kheerganga. They offer dormitory-type accommodation and you can get a bed for a night for Rs. 100 or 200 at most.

If not the Aashram,  I will recommend that you do not stay at Kheerganga and trek back down to Rudranag temple. There are a couple of cafes near the temple that offer cheap overnight stay. The temple also has a Dharamshala where you can stay for the night.

The total cost of this day will again be under Rs. 1000. You will trek down from Kheerganga to Kasol and stay there for the night.

You will travel from Kasol to Bhuntar and then board the ordinary bus for Delhi or Chandigarh. The total cost including the fare per person and food will come out close to Rs. 1000.

hotels in kasol

Cost of Living in Kasol

If you chose your time of the travel wisely, stayed, and ate at cost-effective places, you can easily manage your day in Kasol between Rs. 800 to Rs. 1000.

Solo Trip to Kasol Budget

The total of a 5 days trip from Delhi or Chandigarh to Kasol will come out to be around Rs. 5000. If you were traveling by your own vehicle, you will have to add the total or per person fuel price to this figure. If you were coming from a place like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, any money spent on traveling to and from Delhi will be in addition.

Zero Budget trip from Delhi to Kasol

At least 3 people have asked me about this and honestly, I have no idea how this can be done. I am into travel blogging and a couple of hotels in Kasol have offered me a free stay in exchange for advertising on the blog. But they also just offered me a free stay only. Travel costs and meals had to be paid by me. I agree that you can be a backpacker but traveling to a place without spending a penny out of your pocket is beyond me.

So if you did find out about a zero budget trip to Kasol, please be kind enough and do leave a comment informing me how you managed it. I will also definitely try it.

Over the past few years, Kasol has made its way on the list of the most popular cities in Himachal Pradesh for national and international backpackers.

And the good news is that you can plan your Kasol trip on a low budget. Whether on a family trip, a friend or even a solo trip, you can keep Kasol on your travel list.

Today, in this article, let’s find out how to plan a Kasol trip on a low budget so that you can explore the beauty of this village and make memorable memories from this place.

Itinerary for a Budget-friendly Trip to Kasol

The number of days plays an essential role in the cost of any trip; let us consider a simple itinerary for a budget trip to Kasol.

  • Day 1 – Reach Kasol from Delhi / Chandigarh
  • Day 2 – Chill in Kasol, hike to Chalal village
  • Day 3 – Kasol to Kheerganga trek
  • Day 4 – Kheergana – Tosh
  • Day 5 – Tosh – Kasol – Delhi / Chandigarh

You should know the starting point of your Kasol trip that impacts the budget because you might need to choose different modes of transport to reach the location for the Kasol trip.

These locations can be Delhi, Chandigarh, or even when you fly to Bhuntar, Kasol. If you choose to go to the Kasol trip via plane, it is no longer a budget trip.

How to Plan Kasol trip on a Low Budget?

For the Kasol trip, you have three options to travel; by air, by bus and by rail. Of course, the cost will vary depending on the option you choose.

Travel to Kasol By Train

The nearby station to Kasol is Joginder Nagar Railway Station . You can choose the sleeper class, which will cost you around Rs.280, or you can go for 3-AC for Rs.755.

Once you reach Joginder Railway Station, you can book a shared cab to Kasol. The drop will cost you around Rs.200.

Travel to Kasol By Road

If you are travelling alone for a Kasol trip, choose a local bus according to your budget. And if you have 4 to 5 friends, you can hire a cab to Kasol.

The comfort and flexibility in your car with your friends will be easy than on a local bus.

Travelling to Kasol with your friends would be around Rs.1200 to Rs.1500 for fuel, depending on your car’s mileage.

Hostel Budget in Kasol

If you want to save money on a Kasol trip, stay in hostels and make new friends there.

The entire village of Parvati Valley is full of budget stay options, including Waichin Valley Malana , Tosh, Chalal, and Pulga. These budget options have hostels, camping, food and dormitories.

You can get a dorm for around Rs.200 – Rs.300 per night. And a private room costs around Rs.400 to Rs.500 per night per person.

Hence, the hostel budget for a 5-day Kasol trip on your stay will be around Rs.1500 to Rs.2000 per person.

Food Budget in Kasol

There is no limit on how much you want to spend on food in Kasol. It comes from the fact of how, where and what you eat.

An average person eating three meals per day with few snacks in between will cost around Rs.400 to Rs.500 per day.

You can eat at roadside dhabhas, which will cost around Rs.250 to Rs.300 per day per person.

Hence, for a 5-day Kasol trip cost on food, you can consider about Rs.2000 to 2500 per person.

In the end, we can say that certain comforts go out of the window when you plan a trip on a low budget. You should learn to cherish the moments instead of material things.

You can book Green Park, a hostel in Kasol near the Parvati River, when planning a low-budget trip to Kasol.

If you love to experience a dense forest adventure in Kasol with a serene landscape, stay at Green Park, the best hostel in Kasol and make all the fun and thrilling memories.

Ultimate Kasol Itinerary for 2 days under 5000 INR

plan kasol trip

traveller Swapnil

Kasol itinerary for 2 days will be very helpful if you are planning a quick weekend getaway from nearby cities like Delhi or Chandigarh. There is no dearth of mesmerizing places to see in Kasol, therefore it can get a little confusing as to what places should one cover on a short trip to Kasol.

Kasol, a scenic hamlet located in Parvati valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh is the hippie capital of India. Kasol was already on the hippie trail for quite a long time but only a handful of people knew about it. Off late more and more people have started visiting this place, making it a favourite among backpackers

In my current blog, I will guide you on how to best spend 2 days and 1 night in Kasol. This guide will come in handy for travellers who are visiting the place for the very first time.

Kasol Itinerary for 2 Days: Perfect for a weekend getaway!

There are many things you can do in and around Kasol . Kasol has plenty of Cafes, quaint villages, and beautiful trekking trails.  A pre-defined 2-day Kasol itinerary can help you get the most out of your couple of days here.

This Kasol itinerary for 2 days can be a perfect weekend trip if you are looking to escape your mundane routine for a couple of days. For the sake of convenience,  I am assuming that the trip starts from Delhi.

Here’s a quick look at the ideal itinerary I would suggest for 2 days and 1 night in Kasol:

You start by boarding an overnight bus from ISBT Kashmere Gate, Delhi. You can take an HRTC Volvo bus, tickets to which you can book in advance online . These are quite comfortable and convenient options for budget travellers. Board any bus that goes to Manali.

Take a pick – Cafe Hopping or Visiting Manikaran on Day 1

Reach early morning to Bhuntar and board local buses or cabs going towards Kasol. Check into a hostel/ hotel/ guesthouse . Once you have dropped your stuff, you have two options- go Café hopping in Kasol or visit Manikaran.

Go Café Hopping in Kasol for the foodie in you

There are a ton of different Cafes in Kasol and you probably require 2 days to cover all of them. I visited quite a few them and the food was extremely delicious. Bhoj Café, Evergreen Café, Freedom Café, Moondance Café, Jim Morrisons Café, Little Italy, Panj Tara Café are among the popular ones in Kasol.

Though cafes predominantly serve Italian and Israeli food, most of them offer multi-cuisine including Indian food in some cafés. Israeli food like hummus, falafel platter, etc. will be readily available and is a must-try when you are in Kasol. Italian food served in most of the cafes is extremely delectable. Apart from Italian and Israeli food, traditional Indian food is also readily available in and around Kasol.

Kasol is also famous for its mouth-watering desserts like cakes, pie, croissants, etc . There quite a few bakeries here which serve these kinds of deserts. Germany bakery being the most popular one out there with its apple pie, cheesecakes being a must-try.

In my opinion, Evergreen Café, Jim Morrisons Café, Little Italy are a must-visit as they serve lip-smacking food. Personally, my favorite is Jim Morrisons café as the café inspired by Jim Morrison the lead singer of the classic rock band “The doors”, classic rock numbers are played during the day. The café has a very chill vibe to it and is heaven for vegetarians as the café serves only vegetarian food. To reach this café you would have to hike uphill for 10 minutes from Hotel Sandhya.

manikaran kasol

Manikaran is a Sikh and Hindu pilgrimage centre less than 5 km from Kasol. You can easily reach Manikaran from Kasol by bus or shared Taxis. Manikaran is famous for hot water springs and temples and Gurudwara.

Visit Manikaran for a serene experience

If you are not interested in Café hopping, you can head towards Manikaran. Manikaran is a Sikh and Hindu pilgrimage centre near Kasol that attracts many visitors. Here you can take a dip in the hot water springs and visit the temples and the Gurudwara. It is a very serene experience

In the evening, you can enjoy some quiet time near the bank of river Parvati or you can or spend some time in the woods near Kasol.

Hike around Kasol before heading back on Day 2

On the second day, checkout from Kasol and take a short hike to Chalal. Chalal is just 30 mins hike from Kasol It is one of the shortest and easiest hiking trails around Kasol.

The trail to Chalal passes through a beautiful deodar forest. You can even go further into the valley to Katagla.  Spend some time at Chalal or katagla and head back to Kasol. You can now board an overnight bus to Delhi.

How much will this 2-Day Kasol Trip cost you?

One of the main reasons why people head to Kasol and nearby places is because it is light on the pocket as there are is no scarcity of decent budget options for accommodation except for a few months when it is peak season. The internal transport in and around Kasol is also very cheap.

Accommodation is fairly inexpensive in and around Kasol . If you choose Backpackers hostel the cost can come down to around 300-350 INR per dorm bed. The guesthouses will cost anywhere between 500-800 INR.

If you have someone to share a room with, then guesthouses and hotels can be a decent option as well. You can opt for Luxury hotels, guesthouses in Kasol but your cost will go up. Kasol also has a lot of campsites around the bank of the river Parvati. But they tend to be a little bit more expensive than Hostels, Guesthouse, and hotels.

The only thing that is a little bit expensive is the food. If you are going to visit the famous cafés in Kasol then it will cost you a bit but trust me it is worth it since the food is just amazing here.

Food is going to a bit expensive here, So I would say it will be around 500-700 INR per day depending on how many cafes you visit. Though it is a little bit on the expensive side, trust me, you will love all the Multi-cuisine delicacies that Cafés in Kasol offer.

For this Kasol Itinerary for 2 days,  I’ll consider that you are staying for one-night in Kasol and travelling to Kasol from Delhi.  The approximate costs will be:

The Parvati river in Kasol might look harmless, but do not make a mistake of undermining its flow. Do not venture deep into the river, it can be fatal.

4 Best Stays in Kasol that are actually affordable

The accommodation shouldn’t be a problem as there are plenty of budget hostels, hotels, and guest houses. As soon as you enter Kasol, you will spot clusters of Budget hotels and guesthouses the rooms there are not fancy but are decent enough.

They can be priced anywhere between 500 – 800 INR . The prices can be exorbitantly high during the peak season even for even basic rooms. I stayed in a couple of hotels in that area that were decent and were priced at INR 500, but it was in February which can be considered as off-season and it did feel like off-season as the foreign travellers were almost absent.

For all you backpackers and solo travellers, backpacker hostels will come to your rescue as there a couple of popular hostel chains in Kasol. Some of the best hostels here are:

How to reach Kasol- the Easiest & Cheapest Way?

There is no direct bus for Kasol from either Delhi or Chandigarh. Therefore, for a first-time visitor, reaching Kasol can be a bit confusing.

Reaching Kasol by road-  Recommended for budget travellers

Kasol can be only reached by road. For those making a solo trip to Kasol or are on a tight budget, Volvo buses will be your best bet. First, you need to board buses going towards Manali. There are a lot of Ordinary and Volvo buses of both private operators and HRTC plying on Delhi – Manali route from ISBT Kashmere gate.

Then you need to get down at Bhuntar since this is where the road to Kasol in Parvati valley diverts. From Bhuntar you need to take to local buses or shared cabs going towards Kasol.

There are a couple of HRTC buses from Delhi in the evening that directly go towards Manikaran. I n case you don’t want to do a break journey and save time then it is the perfect option (Kasol comes before Manikaran). Of course, there are only two buses so it might not be convenient for everybody.

If have self-driven cars or private vehicles, then just make sure you take the diversion at Bhuntar. On average Delhi to Kasol bus journey would take around 13-15 hours.

Reaching Kasol by Air – Not recommended for a budget trip

The nearest airport is in Bhuntar, but the frequency of flight to Bhuntar is very less. So, the fares are on the higher side. From Bhuntar, you can take shared cabs or local buses going towards Kasol. I might not be a budget-friendly option, but if you short on days and budget is not a constraint then this option should be considered.

kasol itinerary

A total whiteout near Malana gate. If you want to experience snowfall, then heading to Malana can be wonderful to experience it as it is just 2 hours from Kasol. Though it snows in Kasol, if you visit in February or March then the chances of experiencing snowfall are very less in Kasol.

When should you visit Kasol for the best experience?

This is very subjective as this would depend on what kind of colours and landscapes one wants to see. But one thing is for sure the weather remains very comfortable throughout the year except for cold winters which start from late November to early March.

If you time your visit to Kasol during off-season months like January, February, March in winters, or in September, October, November during Autumn, then you would enjoy it a lot more as there would be no crazy tourist rush when compared to Summer months or the period of Christmas and new year. There would be no problems whatsoever for Backpackers and Budget travellers as the accommodation prices would not be exorbitantly high.

Is Kasol really safe for travellers?

Kasol is very safe irrespective of gender. In fact, all of the Himachal is very safe and you will find lots of solo travellers backpacking around Kasol and Parvati valley. As you might already know Kasol is infamous for people looking for high-quality hashish called ‘Malana Cream’ , so please make sure you don’t engage in such illicit activities as possession of Hashish is illegal and you can even be arrested.

Apart from this, locals are very amiable and approachable, and they will help you out in any situation, so don’t hesitate and approach them if you need help. While hiking and trekking around this pristine valley avoid taking shortcuts unless accompanied by a professional guide.

It’s always easy if have some sort of itinerary before travelling as it helps you plan better. I hope my Kasol itinerary for 2 days will help you make the most of your weekend trip to Kasol.

Happy Wayfaring 🙂

by Swapnil Sanghavi | Apr 24, 2021 | Himachal , Kasol | 0 comments

Kasol is one of the go to destinations for a lot of travelers who are planning to visit. And if you are planning to visit Kasol for the first time you might have a question “how much does a Kasol trip cost”.

Kasol is a but small but major tourist resort in Parvati valley. So it usually depends on individual. How much she or he wants to spend. But be rest assured that you can have a great trip to Kasol even if you are on a tight budget.

So in this blog I’ll be discussing about the stay, food, transport, and other expenses you will incur in your trip. I personally have stay for a lot of days and now have a fair idea about. So lets get started.

How Much Does A Kasol Trip Cost

How Much Does A Kasol Trip Cost – All The Useful Details You Need

Kasol is one of the most popular destinations when it comes to Himachal Pradesh. Being known to cater to backpackers and budget travelers Kasol is the go to destination for such kind of travelers.

So if you also have a question about how much does a Kasol trip cost, just stick with me and I’ll be running you through all the details related to stay, food, commute costs.

By the way here is detailed blog on Kasol versus Manali, wherein I have compared two of the most famous places in Himachal . This will surely help decide where you should be headed.

Cost of Stay in Kasol

The average cost of stay you would incur on Kasol trip would be around Rs 350-600 per day depending on where you stay that is guesthouse, hostels, hotels.

You can easily get a dorm bed at a backpackers hostel from anywhere between Rs 300-500. The famous hotels in Kasol include The Hosteller , Nomads Hostel, Whoopers Hoste l and many more.

I personally stayed at various places in Kasol. There are a lot of cheap hotels were you can get a hotel room for Rs 500 in off season like winter. I had stayed Green valley hotel just few hundred before the main market area.

Of course you can also stay in medium budget hotels or guesthouses which would obviously cost you at least Rs 1500-2000 for the room. There are places like Hotel Sandhya, Green house stay towards Manikaran road. But you can definitely get them at decent price during off season.

By the way if you are solo traveler going to Kasol for the first time here is detailed blog related to safety of a solo traveler in Kasol.

Stay of Food in Kasol

Again this totally depends on where you are eating in Kasol. There are a lot of hippie cafes in Kasol which are priced on par with the rates of cafes in the cities. So if you eat at such cafes all the time then you are going to end up spending around Rs 400-500.

If you want to cut down your food expenses in Kasol you should be definitely eating at the Dhabas in Kasol. If you eat at such Dhabas (Small Roadside Food Joint) in Kasol you’ll end spending around Rs 150 for all meals of the day.

The popular cafes in Kasol include Evergreen, Jim Morisons Cafe, Bhoj Cafe, Freedom Cafe, Moonlight Cafe, Little Italy and many more. But as I said if eat here all the time and all your meals you might ending up spending more on eating than staying.

By the way if you are planning to visit Kasol along with the family read these 8 reasons why Kasol is not a family friendly destination .

Public Transport Cost in Kasol

People taking a trip to Kasol, rarely just stay put in Kasol only. They travel to number of the other popular places around kasol like Tosh and Malana .

The best way to commute in and around is to just use public transport instead of hiring cabs. The public transport in Parvati valley and Kasol is quite inexpensive and really helps one cutting down the budget.

You’ll end spending maximum Rs 100 if you were to use public transport to places in around Kasol . The multiplier for local buses is 1.75*distance in Rupees . By the way, here is a  detailed blog on the mobile network availability in Kasol.

Cost to Reach and Exit Kasol

You can use Private volvo or HRTC volvo’s or Ordinary HRTC buses to reach. Most of the buses ply from the Delhi and Chandigarh.

So maximum that you’ll end up spending is around Rs 3000 to Kasol and back to Delhi for volvo buses. If you want to cut down some of the cost you should travel buy the HRTC ordinary buses.

Also note there are only a few direct private buses to Kasol. So most of the people end up getting down at Bhuntar and then go to Kasol.

Total Cost of Kasol Trip

Total cost of any trip depends on how much an individual is willing to spend. But this is just a rought estimate that I think one can end up spending.

One may either spend less or more depending on what kind of luxuries they want and how much they are willing to sacrifice.

So the total cost you would incur on your Kasol trip would be around Rs 10,000 including food, stay, volvo travel, internal commute. So this should give you a fair idea.

Of course where you stay, what you eat, how you travel will have an impact on the total cost you spend. By the way, if you are looking to experience winter in the himalayas, then here is a winter travel guide for Kasol .

6 Important Tips For A Budget Trip To Kasol

Kasol is touted as a backpackers and budget travelers paradise. But if you are not careful enough you might end up spending a fortune. So here are some tips you can follow to easily make a budget trip to Kasol.

By the way, I personally find Kasol very overrated and here 11 reasons why I think so . Let me know you thoughts.

1. Stay in Backpackers Hostel instead of Hotel

So if you are wishing to traveling on a budget you should definitely be staying in backpackers hostel instead of hotels. For a bed in a dorm room it might cost between Rs 300 to Rs 500.

Therefore you might end saving and cutting down on a budget if you stay in hostels. Plus an added advantage is you get to met a lot of fellow travelers.

2. Eat At Dhabas Instead of Cafes

Another obvious one here. If you eat at Cafes all the time, then you might end up spending more than you stay of cost. Eat at cafes all the time, then you will surely end up spending above Rs 500.

Cafes in Kasol are at pars or even more when it comes to rates. So If you really want to cut down budget, then you should really eat the Dhabas (Small Roadside Food Joint) instead of Cafes.

3. Travel By Local Transport Rather Hiring Cabs

If you want to make successful budget trip, then you should probably travel almost exclusively in public transport rather than hiring cabs.

Of course, traveling in public transport has its own cons. But if you are willing to manage and sacrifice even a little, then you will ending saving a ton money.

4. Visit Kasol In Winters

Visiting Kasol in winters, means saving a lot of money. The primay reason for the low costs in Kasol is due to low tourist footfall in Off season winter months like Jan and Feb.

I personally, ended up getting hotel rooms at around Rs 500 due to low tourist footfall. So you can make use of this and visit Kasol in winters. Plus impeccable winter vistas will be added advantage.

5. Travel By HRTC Ordinary Buses

HRTC ordinary buses are one of the most affordable ways of getting to your destinations in Himachal. The HRTC ordinary charges are way less than the volvo and you’ll end up saving at least Rs 1000.

So if you want to save on commute costs for your Kasol Trip, you should be commuting by HRTC Ordinary instead of volvo buses. Here is where you can book HRTC buses online .

6. Do NOT Travel Alone To Kasol

Despite me traveling almost exclusively traveling solo to Himachal. I would really advise against it for the sake of budget. Trust me if you want to make a budget traveling with someone or in a group always comes in handay.

The costs gets equally divided amongst the travelers. So you don’t have to worry about spending a bit wherever its essential.

To conclude, I hope now you have brief idea how much does a Kasol trip cost. I have explained in detail along with average costs o food, stay, commute for your Kasol Trip. This should be enough for you to estimate as per your needs and comfort.

In case you have any queries, feel free to reach out to me and I’ll be happy to help.

How to plan a super-tight budget trip to Kasol? [under Rs 5000]

Many people have started to travel to the Parvati Valley in recent years. Every now and then people ask us a common question on visiting Kasol, “ How to make a budget trip to Kasol in Parvati Valley? “. Well, we thought, why not write an article to explain this topic of Kasol budget trip in detail.

Planning a Budget trip to Kasol - Parvati Valley?

Kasol, nestled in Parvati Valley , is the dream place to go to for all travelers, young and old alike. However, it is always a concern on how to manage the cost of a Kasol trip. It becomes especially difficult if you’re a college student or even a young working professional without much savings.

Here I want to tell you that it is TOTALLY doable. Yes, you can make a budget trip to Kasol ane enjoy it equally at the same time.

So, how can you plan a cheap trip to Kasol?

Let's quickly dive into the details:

Planning a Kasol Budget Trip

There are several factors involved in the cost of Kasol trip or as a matter of fact any trip to the Himalayas . These factors mainly include:

  • The Itinerary – Number of days you are planning to travel to Parvati Valley and the starting point/place of your trip.
  • Traveling Costs – What is your mode of transport to travel to Kasol
  • Accommodation Costs – Which type of hotels you plan to stay
  • Food Costs – What type of food you eat and especially where you eat that food
  • Miscellaneous Costs – Shopping & Entertainment Expenses (optional)

So, with this break-up in mind – let’s understand how to budget for a Kasol road trip while also ensuring the maximum bang for your bucks.

I will outline an example which will be a mix and match approach of using public transport in Parvati Valley as well as the shared tourist/public taxis. I will also try to share the other available options in different sections of your Kasol budget trip.

Itinerary for a budget trip to Kasol

As the number of days plays a vital role in the cost of any trip, let us consider a sample itinerary of Kasol trip that I will use as an example. I have already shared the article on the most common travel plan of Parvati Valley . However, for this article, I will consider a 5-day itinerary for Kasol budget trip.

  • Day 1 | Reach Kasol from Delhi / Chandigarh
  • Day 2 | Relax in Kasol – Hike to Chalal Village
  • Day 3 | Kasol – Kheerganga Trek
  • Day 4 | Kheerganga – Tosh
  • Day 5 | Tosh – Kasol – Come back home Delhi / Chandigarh

You should know that the starting point/place of your Kasol trip also impacts your budget.

It is because you may need to choose between different modes of transport to reach the base location for the Kasol trip. These locations could be Delhi to Chandigarh or even you may fly to Bhuntar in Himachal . Of course, if you choose to fly to Bhuntar, then it is no longer a budget trip to Kasol or Parvati Valley.

Now, with this itinerary in mind, let us see how you can save costs on your budget trip to Parvati Valley.

That's my car on a trip to Kasol

Traveling Costs for Kasol Trip

As per our example travel for Kasol road trip, let’s assume your starting point as Delhi for the sake of baseline.

Travel to Kasol By Train

The nearest railway station to Kasol is Joginder Nagar railway station . You can preferably choose the sleeper class (Rs 280) or 3-AC at the max (Rs 755). After reaching Joginder Nagar, you can hire a shared cab to reach Kasol. The drop will cost you around Rs 200.

Hence, per person cost for reaching Kasol from Delhi by train comes out around Rs 500 – Rs 1000 including minor miscellaneous expenses.

Traveling to Kasol By Road – Public Transport

Of course, as this article is about a budget trip to Kasol, I will be considering public transport for traveling. I am not considering a self-drive trip to Parvati Valley or riding on your own bike or rented motorcycle.

But, please keep in mind that if you are 4-5 people in a group and have your car, then travel costs may end up at par when making a Kasol trip by using public transport. You will need to pay for fuel, which you can divide among 4-5 people in the group. When I say equivalent, I am also considering the comfort and flexibility of traveling in your own car.

The cost of traveling by car on a 5-day Kasol trip may come out to be Rs 1200-1500 for fuel depending on your car’s mileage.

You may plan a budget trip to Kasol by self-drive car

Parvati Valley by Public Transport

If you are traveling to Kasol by road, you can take a bus from Kashmere Gate ISBT, Delhi to Bhuntar, or Kullu-Manali. Both HRTC and HPTDC buses run between Delhi – Kullu – Manali. You can get down at Bhuntar. You can also find a bus to Manikaran from Delhi too.

The HRTC ordinary bus costs Rs 750 and it leaves Kashmere Gate ISBT, Delhi at 8:26 PM. However, the Himgaurav 2×2 AC bus costs Rs 1200 and leaves Delhi at 7.00 PM.

There are other private bus tour operators as well that may charge a bit lower prices.

Hence, the per person cost for reaching Kasol from Delhi using public transport is Rs 750 by ordginary HRTC bus.

If you are taking Delhi to Manali bus (Volvo or ordinary) then you need to get down at Bhuntar to reach Kasol. From Bhuntar, you can take a shared taxi to Kasol. This shared taxi will cost anywhere from Rs 100- Rs 250, depending upon the car, your haggling skills, etc. There are pre-paid taxis also available at the Bhuntar Airport going to Kasol.

Alternatively, you can even catch another bus from Bhuntar, which is heading to Manikaran and get off along the way at Kasol. The cost of this bus from Bhuntar to Kasol is Rs 60-90.

Pro Travel Tip – Opt for an overnight bus to Kasol from Delhi to avoid the need for AC buses. Instead of private tour operators, I will recommend traveling to Kasol by HRTC buses.

Local commute within Parvati Valley

The best way to explore Kasol and the rest of Parvati Valley is on foot. You can take the day hikes or treks around the entire Parvati Valley region .

Enjoy the tranquillity of sitting on the banks of Parvati river. Travel through your imagination while sitting in one place. You do not need any vehicle for exploring Kasol and feel lost in nature.

Unless you plan to take some treks which require a travel guide, you should be able to freely hike most villages around Kasol.

The per person cost for local sightseeing in Kasol is – FREE!

You should always carry your water bottle and refill it as many times as you need water. It will not only keep you hydrated always, but you will also help in saving the Himalayas from plastic garbage. Remember, every tiny step counts and your step in this direction can help save the Himalayas too !! 🙂 🙂

Choose to hike around in Parvati Valley on your budget trip

Traveling from Kasol to nearby areas

Yes, it is possible to cover multiple places in Kasol trip, even on a budget. As per our example Kasol budget trip itinerary, the must-visit places in Parvati Valley include Tosh and Kheerganga (at a minimum).

For visiting Tosh and Kheerganga, you’ll need to reach Barshaini, which is an hour away from Kasol. You can travel to these places by a shared tourist cab. Then, either you hike to Kheerganga or in summers some shared cabs take you near Tosh village.

Hence, per person cost for reaching Barshaini from Kasol to visit Kheerganga and Tosh will be around Rs 200 – 300. This cost also includes traveling between Kheerganga trek starting point and Tosh village as per the itinerary.

Then the other places of interest can be Chalal , Rashol, and Pulga villages. These sightseeing places of Parvati Valley are all situated on trails. Hence, free to travel.

The per person cost for trekking without a guide is FREE! You can also hike with a local villager and then tip him at the end.

Parvati Valley Travel Cost Summary

If I sum up all these options together, you will be spending the following costs on traveling to Kasol according to your mode of transport.

  • The minimum cost for traveling to Kasol by train in sleeper class is Rs 1200 – Rs 1300 ((500)+(200-300)+(500)).
  • The minimum cost for traveling to Kasol by private car in a group of 4-5 people is Rs 1200 – Rs 1500 as fuel charges.
  • The minimum cost for traveling to Kasol by HRTC ordinary bus is Rs 1700 – Rs 1800 ((750)+(200-300)+(750)).

Hence, you can see that if you want to make a budget trip to Kasol, then traveling by train in a sleeper class is the cheapest option at Rs 1200 – Rs 1300.

Thus, total amount you would spend on your travel on a budget trip to Parvati Valley will be Rs 1200-1800 depending on your choice for the mode of transport.

Lodging Expenses in Kasol and nearby regions

If you want to save money on your Kasol trip, then stay in hostel dormitories and making new travel friends. The entire Parvati Valley region is full of budget stay options, including the villages of Tosh, Kalga, Pulga, Malana , Chalal, Rasol, and Kasol. These budget stay options include hostels, camping sites, food shacks, and dormitories.

One can get a dorm for as cheap as Rs 200 – Rs 300 per bed per night. This rate will be higher in Tosh and Kheerganga, though not by much. You should be able to fetch a room at around Rs 400 – Rs 500 per person per night at Tosh and Kheerganga.

Hence, for a 5-day Kasol budget trip covering Kheerganga and Tosh, the lodging expenses per person comes out to be Rs 1200 – Rs 1600.

Eat at local dhabhas to save cost on Kasol budget trip

Food Costs on Kasol Trip

Eat cheap doesn’t mean the food won’t be delicious. However, it depends on your tastes and appetite how much you spend on this. There is no limit on what you can spend on food. It all comes down to the fact that what, where, and how much you eat.

However, for an average person eating three sets of meals with some snacks in between, I will consider Rs 400 – Rs 500 per day per person for food cost. This cost range will give you a balance of what and where you will end up eating.

Of course, if you can eat all the meals at roadside dhabhas and carrying snack-bars with you, the food cost range Kasol trip can easily be Rs 250 – Rs 300 per day.

Hence, for our 5-day itinerary of the Parvati Valley budget trip, you can consider about Rs 2000-2500 as food expenses.

Miscellaneous expenses when in Kasol

  • If you want to visit a rave – it is advisable to search for a less mainstream party where you might be able to save up on entry fee expenses.
  • Also, it is advisable to avoid indulgences such as alcohol if you want to adhere to a strict budget. But, that is your call.
  • I would also suggest not to shop to keep your costs low. But, you should soak in the culture and explore the many spots of Parvati Valley .

You may consider about Rs 100 per day for any miscellaneous expenses. These expenses are excluding any special event or things you plan to attend when in Kasol.

Hence, consider an optional Rs 500 budget for miscellaneous expenses of a budget trip to Kasol .

You can still eat delicious food on Kasol Budget Trip

Summary – Total cost of Kasol trip

After considering all the factors that contribute to the cost of Parvati Valley trip, we can easily summarize them together.

Things to keep in mind on your Kasol trip

  • When you’re budget vacationing, certain comforts go out for a toss. Learn to cherish the memories instead of material things.
  • Travel in off-peak seasons – Just before the seasons starts and when there is a lull in tourist activity, you’ll get cheaper rates. But, the trade-off is that certain must-visit places (read: restaurants/ cafes, parties ) might not be happening during the time you choose to visit.
  • Stay in Hostels – a win-win situation as you get to stay cheaper and also make new travel buddies! Also, hostel buddies will tell you of the cool off-beat places they’ve visited in Himachal or other regions. So, a bonus!
  • Always choose the off-beat things to do – Often major attractions in any place tend to be expensive, have entry fees and also is not the most soul-satisfying experience.
  • Book in advance – prices tend to go up the closer you book to your traveling dates
  • Be flexible – this is the most important quality to have as a budget traveler.
  • Bring Food with you – you can even purchase food at local grocery stores and make sandwiches for yourself to carry on your treks etc.
  • Learn to Haggle – this is the MOST IMPORTANT SKILLS as a budget traveler in the Himalayas! Whether it is taxis or anything else – it is important to bargain your way out!
  • You do not have many days in hand, you can always check our itinerary for Kasol weekend trip .

If you are planning to visit Himachal in the near future (of course with the pandemic not around the corner) or have already booked the tickets to visit Himachal, this blog will be helpful to get a proper Kullu Manali Kasol itinerary.

In this blog we will talk about how we planned our trip, which places we wanted to cover in Himachal this time around, how you should plan your journey, places to stay, things to see and last but not the least how you can manage the entire trip within a proper budget.

Himachal Pradesh lies in the Northern part of India and has been a major center of tourist attraction since decades. Off late the state has gained major popularity with backpackers exploring the smallest corner of the state, which not only offers the most majestic views of the Himalayas but also provides the gush of fresh air, peace & tranquility which people coming from bustling cities actually craves.

Tourism is one of the main sources of income for the locals with farming and agriculture topping the charts. The state depends heavily on tourism which has actually increased the per capita income of the locals to quite some extent. Himachal is very popular for tourists mainly coming from Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh which constitute the major bulk. Few popular places to visit are Shimla, Manali, Kasol, Kalpa, Kinnaur, Lahaul, Spiti, Dharamsala, Dalhousie etc.

While discussing with the locals, we got to know that there are 3 major routes by which one can explore Himachal. One which starts from Pathankot and continues to Dharamsala, Dalhousie & Khajjiar, the other one covers Shimla, Kullu, Manali & Rohtang Pass and last but not the least the other route covers Kalpa, Kinnaur, Kaza, Lahaul & Spiti. Tourists coming from distant places ideally chooses one out of these three routes to cover their journey. If you want to merge two routes or all three of them, you definitely can but it all depends on how many days you have with you and in which season you are planning your trip.

Coming back to our first visit to Himachal, we had the year end holidays up on our sleeves with 6 nights and 7 days in total to explore.  Lets find out how we planned our tour and give you a proper Kullu Manali Kasol Itinerary.

Kullu Manali Kasol itinerary Day 1 – December 25, 2021

As mentioned earlier, amongst the three routes to explore Himachal we decided and chose the one which leads to Shimla, Kullu, Manali & Rohtang Pass. After going through many reviews, videos and talking to the locals we decided to skip Shimla this time as everyone advised against it, wth Shimla being too touristy and crowded during year end holidays.

We booked our train tickets from Howrah to Kalka 3 months back knowing there will be huge rush during this season. The Kalka mail has been renamed to Netaji Express Special (12311) which departed from Howrah on December 25th at 21:55 PM and would reach Kalka on December 27th at 3:00 AM. Kalka is the nearest station to Shimla if you are planning to cover Shimla as well. However as we wanted to skip Shimla we opted to get down at Chandigarh and head towards Manali directly.

Kullu Manali Kasol itinerary Day 2 – December 26, 2021

The train crosses important stations like Asansol, Mughal Sarai, Allahabad, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Delhi, Ambala etc. on its way. If you are travelling in AC coaches, IRCTC will not allow vendors to enter in the train apart from their own pantry staff. So you will get very minimal food options and the food offered by them are of very poor quality. Try ordering from IRCTC online catering where they will provide you food from various local vendors at specified stations and the quality is much better. (PS – Don’t try their Biryani) .

Kullu Manali Kasol itinerary Day 3 – December 27, 2021

With Kalka carrying a huge reputation of delay, we finally reached Chandigarh at 3AM with a 2 hour delay. As we had booked our cab as an entire package for the full trip from Chandigarh to Chandigarh, we found it waiting outside the railway station only as soon as we got down. (Tip – Try to avoid booking a cab for the entire package in Himachal, reason will share in details in a separate blog)

plan kasol trip

The journey from Chandigarh to Manali is absolutely mesmerizing. If you are planning to go directly to Manali always start early from Chandigarh as the traffic situation in Himachal is worse. A normal journey from Chandigarh to Manali would take 10 – 12 hours considering you stop for two halts on the way for breakfast and lunch with a total distance close to 310 KM. Now if you get stuck in traffic this can go up to 15-16 hours as well which could be quite tiresome. If you want to come to Manali via bus you can also opt for Volvo bus services from Delhi and Chandigarh as well which could save a lot of bucks. Himachal have their own Interstate buses as well which you can opt. I will keep the interstate buses the last option considering the fact the distance , condition of the roads and level of comfort.

The cab package generally varies from season to season. If you are coming in peak season they would generally charge Rs 4000 per day and during off season it can come down to 2500-2800 depending on the type of vehicle. We opted for a 6 seater Innova from Chandigarh to Chandigarh pickup and drop for Rs 30,000 for the entire trip which would cover Manali, Kasol and Manikaran.

We reached Manali at around 3 PM and checked in to our hotel, Hotel Greenfields. Our hotel is situated near the Hadimba Devi temple in Old Manali which is one of the best places we would suggest for travelers. If you are coming to Manali stay in Old Manali, rather than staying near the Mall road. Old Manali has the best vibe and scenic beauty and people over here are mostly quite chilled in terms of hospitality. On the contrary the Mall road area is filled with heavy traffic and flocking with tourists which you surely would want to avoid if you want a peaceful and memorable vacation. In one word try to stay as far away from the Mall Road as possible.  Our hotel had one of the best views of the snow capped mountains from the terrace with a calm and peaceful environment all around. Upon checking in, we took rest for the remaining part of the day.

Kullu Manali Kasol itinerary Day 4 – December 28, 2021

Today we planned to visit nearby places of Kullu and Naggar. We set of for our sightseeing at around 9 AM. On the way we stopped for our breakfast near the bank of the Beas river. The river bank was beautiful with snow capped mountains covered on all sides and the gushing Beas river flowing in the middle of the valley. We stopped for sometime to click few pictures and had a sumptuous breakfast. If you are travelling this side, tell your cab driver to stop near the bridge and walk a little towards the river bank to get the best view of the mountains and the river

plan kasol trip

Manali is one of the top spot for River rafting and Paragliding. We did not do the Paragliding as we had other plans and as far as river rafting goes we already have done that in our trip to Rishikesh. Read our rafting experience of Rishikesh here.

On our way we stopped at a local shawl factory to explore the different types of Kullu shawls and woolen clothes and materials. If you want you can also purchase from here.

We as a nature lover wanted to explore the raw beauty of nature and explore the villages of the Kullu valley. Our main aim was to avoid the touristy places and explore the locale more. We stopped near the Baishno Devi Temple as one of the point of attraction. Its a multistory temple which houses most of the Hindu gods and deities with a beautiful interior architecture comprising of wood and stones.

plan kasol trip

Our next stop was Jana waterfall and the road leading to it was beautiful. Our car was passing by small village paths and local markets of the Kullu district and we could spot the simple livelihood of the people residing there which was quite a pleasant experience.

The path to the Jana waterfall is a quick 5 minute hike from the roadways, do definitely try to reach the source of the waterfall.

plan kasol trip

From there we went to visit the famous Naggar castle which has witnessed quite a lot of Bollywood movie shootings inside it, most popular among them are Jab We Met, Maachis, Roza, Barsaat etc. The castle is made up of rock and wood and was constructed in the 14th century. The famous castle of  Raja Sidh Singh was later converted to a heritage hotel in 1978 by the Government. The view of the Kullu valley from the castle is something to die for. Keep this as a part of your sight seeing plan definitely if you are planning for Manali.

plan kasol trip

Just outside the Naggar Castle there is this little cafe Naggar Delight Cafe which everyone should definitely visit. We had one of the best homemade Bakery items. Do try this one.

plan kasol trip

We enjoyed the rest of the evening near the Mall road. The mall road features many small cafes, shops and restaurants where tourists visit. The price of anything in the mall road is exorbitantly high. So avoid shopping from the Mall road, try to visit their local market at the back end of the mall road. You would get autos to and fro from mall road to your hotels as well.

Kullu Manali Kasol itinerary Day 5 – December 29, 2021

We started early once again today at around 8 AM to visit the famous Solang Valley and Atal Tunnel. But to our surprise with the huge rush of tourist coming in Manali this week, we could not even cover 1/3 rd of the path also and got stuck near a place in Manali in the huge traffic. The traffic was standstill for 3 hours with hardly any movement. The distance from Manali to Solang Valley is only 16 km, which ideally should take 1 hour to reach, but during this time we heard from tourists that it takes 10 – 12 hours as well to go up and come down from there due to the crazy traffic. The Rohtang Pass and Atal Tunnel was closed for that day due to heavy snowfall. The traffic situation in Himachal is for real and we have witnessed it first hand. The Government should immediately look into this on an urgent basis as it will get worse day by day. We also noticed that the main reason behind the traffic is caused by the cars which are coming from the other states forming 2,3 lanes unnecessarily.

With Solang being too touristy and adding to it this huge traffic jam, we changed our mind and we opted to visit the Hampta Valley instead, by paying the cab driver a little something extra as the road leading to the valley is quite steep and dangerous. This was the best decision we ever took. The roads and the view of the Hampta Valley is far better than what we have seen in videos of Solang Valley and Atal Tunnel. (which is a little overrated we found). We took an U turn and started off for Hampta Valley and Sethan Village.

If you are planning for Hampta Valley , make sure you have a local Himachal driver with you and the car has to be a 4*4 vehicle. Due to snowfall the road gets quite slippery and its not safe for small vehicle and definitely not for the bikers. (Do not hire a bike or a scooty to go to Hampta Valley). We were lucky that we had a local driver with us who managed to wrap the tires of the car with chains like the army people do, which could easily cut down snow and lay a solid grip in the slippery road. We noticed a lot of cars whose tyres were slippery and instead they opted to park 4,5 km ahead of the valley and let the tourists walk those extra kms due to unavoidable circumstances as the roads are quite scary and steep. Luckily our cab went down till the end.

The valley was covered with snow all around. Also there were small road side stalls to eat over there as well. Tourists were also enjoying activities like Skiing and zip lining as well. Do definitely bargain for the activities.

Upon coming down we stopped in the nearby Sethan village which looked like a postcard picture. The village had mud & wooden houses, pine trees, small local shops with snow capped mountains on all sides with the sun shining right down on it. We did not get a chance to interact with the locals but next time if we come, we will plan to stay in a homestay near the village for sure.

Kullu Manali Kasol itinerary Day 6 – December 30, 2021

We started the day by visiting the famous Hadimba Devi Temple. Hadimba Devi is the wife of Bhima, one of the Pandavas from the famous Mahabharata. The temple stands amidst a dense Pine and Cedar forest which was built by Maharaja Bahadur Singh in 1553. The local devotees believes that this is the temple where Hindu deity Hadimba (Hidimba) meditated. This is perhaps the only temple we have seen dedicated to a demoness. Nearby the temple there is a tree temple of her son Ghatothkach as well.

plan kasol trip

From there we went to the Bana Bihar and Zoo which had nothing except tall Pine and Cedar trees where you can roam around and click some nice pictures of the beautiful canopy formation at the top.

plan kasol trip

The rest of the day we kept for ourselves to explore Old Manali. If you are visiting Manali, try to spend as much time as possible in exploring Old Manali local areas & market rather than spending time on the Mall Road. You will get a vibe of the actual Himachali people and their daily life. The Club house is also nearby which you can explore. Old Manali is less crowded, ambience is chilled, have some of the best bakeries and cafes and the prices of goods are also reasonable. This is an area which are being mostly visited by the foreigners. Smoking and drinking is quite open in this part of Manali and everyone is quite chilled with this. It has a similar resemblance to Kasol. We spent the rest of the evening in a cafe called Mount Walkers. The ambience and the food was fantastic and it has live music as well. Do definitely try this one.

Kullu Manali Kasol itinerary Day 7 – December 31, 2021

We checked out early and we headed towards Kasol and Manikaran. Kasol is a hamlet in the Kullu valley beside the Parvati river between Bhuntar and Manikaran. The place has gained a lot of popularity from young travelers due to its chilled ambience and very few restrictions all around. It is situated 75km from Manali. We wanted to cover Manikaran first and then check in to our home stay in Kasol. The road to Kasol from Bhuntar is picturesque with huge mountains on all sides and the beautiful Parvati river accompanying us through out the journey. Manikaran is situated around 6 km from Kasol and is famous for the Manikaran Sahib Gurdwara situated there.

Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara – Its is a famous pilgrimage spot for Hindus and Sikhs and this place is mentioned in the Twelfth Khalsa written by Giani Gian Sikh. This place has been often visited by the Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Ji. The hot boiling spring in the Gurudwara is used by locals and tourists. This place receives thousands of tourists all year around.

plan kasol trip

We also attended their Langar and were offered Kara Prasad as well. The road to Manikaran being single often encounters huge traffic. We took 1,5 hours to cover 5 kms, so you can imagine the level of traffic.

Upon our return we noticed many camps on the river bank for which Kasol is famous for, so if you are travelling to Kasol, do definitely try out their river camps which could be quite some experience. We opted for a homestay as Kasol rather than a camp because at night the temperature falls to -4°C as well. Being December 31st, the place was filled with tourists and there were huge traffic, but luckily again we chose a property which is a little away from the Main Kasol market (around 4kms) called Colonel’s Dacha. Its a beautiful homestay situated on the banks of the Parvati river beside the famous Kabila Camps. We enjoyed the rest of the evening in leisure.

plan kasol trip

Kullu Manali Kasol itinerary Day 8 – January 01, 2022

We kept this day for a trek to a small village called Chalal which is situated at a distance of 3 km from Kasol . There are lot of places you can explore from Kasol like Malana, Tosh, Kalga & Pulga, Kheerganga trek etc but as we had very limited time we only opted to visit Chalal. If you are in Kasol definitely go for this trek as its a quite easy one for beginners and you will remember the scenic beauty of the mountains which you will witness along the way forever. Through out the way you will get plenty of cafes to sit and relax as well if you get tired along the way and the beautiful Parvati river will be accompanying you through out the journey.

Chalal is situated at a height of 5300 ft and has managed to retain its old-world mountain village rustic charm. The beautiful houses, the simple livelihood of the people, the animals in the farm and the simple local people will surely attract you to come to this place again. If you are planning to lose yourself to the mountains Chalal is the perfect hamlet for you.

plan kasol trip

Upon coming back we visited the Kasol local market and spent the remaining day at leisure. Do try the Israeli cuisine and bakeries in Kasol with a view of the Parvati valley. We will cover in depth of the trek to Chalal on a separate blog.

Kullu Manali Kasol itinerary Day 9 – January 02, 2022

This is the last day of our trip. Try to check out and leave for Chandigarh as early as possible as you never know you can get stuck in a terrible traffic jam near Mandi. We took 12 hours to get down from Kasol to Chandigarh and finally boarded our train.

Conclusion – There are a lot of things we witnessed and lot to share, so it will be very difficult to cover all nitty gritty in one blog. Do keep checking our website for future blog . We have never witnessed this beauty of the Himalayas like this, what we saw in Manali and Kasol but there are a lot of negative things as well worth mentioning which we encountered during our trip. We will cover as much as possible so that you don’t encounter them and give you a proper Kullu Manali Kasol itinerary.

Tips for you to plan during Kullu Manali Kasol itinerary :

  • Try not to book a cab for the entire package, then you will have very less flexibility. The entire trip will be operated on the whims of the driver and the tour operator. We were lucky to have a good driver with us, but not everyone will be lucky. The commitment the operator or the hotel make with you during booking will change with due course of time. For example Atal Tunnel and Rohtang Pass was included in the package as instructed by our hotel, but upon arriving we were told that its not included. Luckily it was closed. For two days the cab was almost sitting idle as we covered most of the places already and they denied travelling to any other important or beautiful places on our request neither they compensated for that.
  • Almost all the cab drivers have connections with vendors for paragliding and rafting from where they get commission. If you don’t want to do any activities tell them upfront.
  • We met mostly nice people on our journey, but we also noticed that people are a little bit outspoken and a little rude even if its a petty issue.
  • Carry a lot of warm clothes with you if you are travelling in the months of December-February. Chances of snowfall depends on weather, so no one can predict upfront. Kasol river bank camps do not receive direct sunlight, hence the place gets very cold at night. We opted for Jackets, hiking shoes, fleece, gloves, socks from Decathlon and Wildcraft.
  • Plan your day early for sight seeing. The traffic is worse and if you get stuck at any point it will consume half of your day.
  • The cost of food in Manali is quite high, try to avoid the restaurants, cafes in Mall road. If you are booking a hotel add your breakfast as complimentary. In that way you can have your lunch on a roadside dhaba, restaurant, cafe at a cheaper price and dinner at the hotel (good if you can include dinner as well).
  • Do not have the pantry car food inside the train, the quality is very bad, order online from IRCTC Food booking you will get good food at a reasonable price on your selected station and on time.
  • Kasol and Old Manali is quite open for drinking, smoking pot and joint. If you are travelling with family you can definitely avoid these places, camps, cafes etc.
  • If you are a Bong, there are plenty of restaurants offering Bengali cuisine near the local market at the backend of the mall road.
  • If you are visiting Himachal do not litter. Please carry all the plastic along with you and dump in a dustbin. We witnessed lot of tourists carelessly throwing plastics on the road, in the snow, near the river, please be responsible while travelling.
  • It takes almost 10-12 hours to reach Manali, so you can definitely add Shimla on your trip which is like 4 hours from Chandigarh and 3 hours from Kalka Railway station. After spending two days, climb to Manali in that way travelling time will be less.
  • If you are coming by flight Chandigarh is the nearest airport. There is another airport in Kullu called the Bhuntar airport but flights to Bhuntar are very expensive and not frequent as well.

Also do read our Delhi and Nainital blog to plan journey to another hill station as well.

How to plan a Budget trip to Kasol

kasol trip budget

Kasol is a beautiful as well as peaceful village located at a distance of 32km from Bhuntar ( nearest airport ) in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. This village lies adjacent to gurgling Parvati river where you can sit along the river and enjoy the tranquillity and peace offered by nature. The specialty of the place lies in the trekking routes to various places like Malana, Chalaal, Kheerganga etc. Kasol is abode for the trekkers, backpackers and for those who cannot control their adrenaline rush. The cafés in the area offer you world-class cuisines which will definitely make your mouth water.

Kasol tourism has grown magnificently in the past five years with travelers from different age groups and niche. Some travel in luxury and some on a tight budget trip to get rid of hectic city life. Recently I have got number of mails in which people often ask me to write something on “How to plan a budget trip to Kasol”. So finally I thought of writing an article on this topic.

Parvati valley and Kasol can be explored completely in 3 days if planned properly, the trip may be hectic but would definitely be in your budget.

How to Plan Kasol trip in Budget

Maximum people plan their trip from Delhi or Chandigarh so we will assume you to be traveling from Delhi.

  • The best way of traveling from Delhi is by Volvo buses which usually starts from Kashmiri gate in the evening. The price of ticket usually ranges between 1000Rs to 1300 Rs and after 12 hours of journey from Delhi this bus will drop you at Bhuntar (The place in Kullu district from where the road to Parvati valley and Manali bifurcates).
  • Now a days some Volvo buses also run on route from Delhi to Kasol which will take you directly to Kasol.
  • If you get down at Bhuntar you can take a local bus from Bhuntar to Manikaran or Barsheni which will drop you at Kasol after 2 hours of journey. This bus ticket would cost you around 70-80Rs. Or you can go for local cab services as shared cabs are very cheap and comfortable source of travel to Kasol
  • After reaching Kasol you can walk around the village and find a place to stay around the village. You can bargain at the local hotels and home stays in order to plan it in your budget.
  • You will get a room for around 1000Rs to 1500rs in a home stay or hotel but if the price is still not affordable by you then you can rent a tent in Bhuntar and take it along to Kasol. This would be the cheapest method for staying in Kasol.
  • For traveling to Challal you need to trek from Kasol and for Tosh you need to take a local bus to Barsheni from where you can trek to Tosh village. Trekking and hiking is the best way of exploring the whole valley, by trekking you can cover places like Rasol, Pulga, Tosh, Kalga, Katla and most importantly you can cover Kheerganga the Jewel of Parvati valley. And if you plan a stay at every destination and want it to be in your budget then just rent a tent for 300rs per day and stay wherever you want to, this will not even affect your Budget.
  • Food is usually cheap in local cafes so that won’t affect your budget much.

My Top Tips for Budget Trip To Kasol/ Parvati valley

plan kasol trip

So Now I am going to enlist few tips which will surely help you in optimizing your budget to Kasol without making a big dent in your pocket. so lets look at them one by one.

  • Travel during March, August and September- March is one of the best months to travel to Kasol, crowd is very less, place is peaceful, only thing that you can miss during this period would be greenery around.
  • Book on spot- Try to find rooms and stay options on the spot rather than looking for online booking options during your travel to Kasol in March or August but if you are traveling to Kasol during May and June then I would suggest you to make prior bookings
  • Eat wisely in Kasol/Parvati valley- Eating at local dhabhas or shacks is one of the best method of saving money when traveling to Kasol. Try local dishes at your home stays rather then spending big amounts in restaurants around.
  • Be wise with location of accomodation: Kasol offers wide variety of option for stays depending on your budget. It has budget hotels to luxury hotels. So it totally depends on your budget what choice you want to make. You can even go for home stays which will give you a warmth feeling of Himachali culture.
  • Travel in the groups of 3-5 members

Traveling in the group of 3-5 members opens up a good number of options in order to save more. For example, like mentioned above, some hotels may give you free extra bed. Hence, if you are three then you get a room with discount and free extra bed but you divide the cost by three people. So, you are getting discount as well as saving money as well.

When we talk about commute option when you travel in a group of 4-5 the cost of the taxi is shared in an optimum value as well as you stay comfortable in the car too. According to me, following guidelines should be followed for your mode of transport or commute:

  • a. 1-2 people, then choose Bike Rental OR Shared Taxis. Hitch Hike / Public Transport where ever possible and routes of least interest like Delhi – Kasol-  Delhi Highway.
  • b. 3-5 people, then choose taxi or a self drive car of SUV type.
  • c. 6-10 people, then choose Taxi as Winger/Tempo Traveler which will save you directly about 55-60% over hiring two taxis and you travel together in the group as well.

You can even travel with me or give me a chance to plan a trip for you guys in budget. I have been a native of this place and have organized number of budget trips for the fellow backpackers. I have been working in organizing trips in the valley since 2012 and have provided valuable service to number of satisfied clients across the country. People prefer to travel with big travel portals which usually operate from Delhi or Mumbai but Me and my team operates from Kullu itself and try to stay along with groups till the trips are successfully finished.

so If you are confused with your budget then I hope this article helps you out in planning budget trip to Kasol or you can directly contact us on 8988265439 for planning a budget trip with us to Kasol or you can DM on Instagram

How to plan your All-Star weekend trip to Indy

plan kasol trip

INDIANAPOLIS — The city of Indianapolis expects nearly 125,000 visitors to take on the NBA All Star festivities this weekend.

“It's been a long time coming,” explained Pacers Sports & Entertainment Vice President for External Affairs and Corporate communications, Danny Lopez.

“We’ve been working hard to ensure that this one breaks the mold. And that's what's gonna happen.”

Screen Shot 2024-02-12 at 9.50.02 PM.png

The All Star game marks the first time the event has come to Indianapolis since 1985. Lopez and the Pacers are hoping to make it the best one yet.

“We've, we put things in place, I think that are experiences that people can enjoy whether or not they're basketball fans, whether or not they're coming to any of the basketball events,” shared Lopez.

There have been many concerns about public parking but Denison Parking President Perry Griffith III shared how fans can avoid the hassle of parking.

“One way to do that is to use actually some mobile applications,” explained Griffith.

Screen Shot 2024-02-12 at 9.50.28 PM.png

“So ParkWhiz and spot hero are two mobile apps that you can check out in advance to find parking, you can pay for parking that way. And we'll accept those as a credential coming in. And you'll know that you're guaranteed to have a space in that asset that you're parking in.”

Lopez alongside Pacers Sports and entertainment have created an interactive website to help visitors plan their trip to the All-Star game.

“There's about 50 events, you can sort them by free events, basketball related events, arts events,” explained Lopez.

“It's a great way to stay organized and pick the events that you want to come and you want to experience.”

Numerous roads are expected to be closed to help the flow of traffic this weekend and Lopez suggest travelers check out the upcoming road closures here.

Study Finds That Planning a Disney Trip Will Make You Happier

in Disney , Disneyland Resort , Updates , Walt Disney World

cinderella castle

If you love visiting Disney Parks around the world, the results of a study by researcher Michelle Gielan won’t shock you.

According to a Disney Parks Blog post about Gielan’s research, she discovered “that 97 percent of respondents reported having a trip [to a Disney theme park ] planned makes them happier. Seventy-one percent of respondents felt greater levels of energy when they had a trip planned in the next six months.”

If you’ve ever seen this magical pop-up on your computer screen after booking a Disney resort trip , you know the surge of excitement you feel when you see Mickey Mouse and “I’m Going to Disneyland Resort !” or “I’m Going to Walt Disney World Resort !”

Gielan’s research, which can be viewed in full here , was part of the Let’s Go There initiative, which is a travel industry wide effort spearheaded by the U.S. Travel Association:

The Let’s Go There Coalition engaged happiness researcher Michelle Gielan from the Institute for Applied Positive Research to field this study to understand the impact of booking travel on happiness during the COVID-19 pandemic. The sample consisted of 263 U.S.-based adults, aged 18 and older. The online survey was conducted August 21-24, 2020.

The Walt Disney Company is proud to be involved with the Let’s Go There campaign. President and Managing Director of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Jill Estorino is a co-chair of the Let’s Go There coalition. Estorino told Disney Parks Blog:

“This campaign is a first step in inspiring Americans to think about planning a vacation, and encouraging them to look forward to experiencing the wonder and joy—and even magic—that only travel can offer.”

Politics | Top NYPD, Mayor Adams officials attend Dubai summit with few details on funding, activity for trip

NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban is pictured at One Police Plaza in Manhattan on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024. (Theodore Parisienne for New York Daily News)

Senior officials in Mayor Adams’ administration, including NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban and International Affairs czar Edward Mermelstein , traveled to the United Arab Emirates earlier this week for a global summit — and City Hall is declining to say how their trip was paid for or who they met with.

Caban’s attendance at the Global Governments Summit in Dubai was first disclosed Monday in a memo issued by the Emirates’ government-run news agency that also revealed Joel Eisdorfer, a senior adviser to Adams at City Hall, tagged along with the commissioner.

The Emirates News Agency memo, first reported by Politico on Wednesday, said Caban and Eisdorfer met at the summit with United Arab Emirates Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss “existing bilateral relations between the two nations, emphasizing avenues to enhance cooperation, particularly in security and law enforcement.” The memo also included photos showing Caban presented the Emirati official with an NYPD plaque during the sit-down.

In addition to Caban and Eisdorfer, Mermelstein, commissioner of the mayor’s Office of International Affairs , attended the summit, which ran from Monday through Wednesday, a source directly familiar with the matter told the Daily News.

Adams spokesman Charles Lutvak confirmed Eisdorfer and Mermelstein’s attendance, but wouldn’t share information on who they met with during the summit, how their travel was paid for or how long they were overseas. Lutvak did say “no taxpayer dollars” were spent on their trips.

The NYPD’s press office declined to provide any details about the itinerary of Caban’s trip, saying it could not do so “due to security concerns.” The press office also wouldn’t say how his trip was funded.

“The Police Commissioner was on official Department business in Dubai,” the press office said in an email.

Mermelstein, who makes nearly $230,000 per year in his City Hall job, serves as the Adams administration’s “primary liaison” to the United Nations and other diplomatic communities, per his office’s website . Eisdorfer, who makes $185,000 per year, serves as the administration’s unofficial liaison to the city’s Orthodox Jewish community.

Speakers at this year’s Global Governments Summit , which was hosted by the United Arab Emirates’ government, included Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who recently stoked controversy for interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Dubai visit came on the heels of Caban traveling to Qatar in October for a security conference. That Caban trip, which came just after Hamas’ terror attack on Israel, was paid for by the Qatari government , which has allowed senior Hamas leaders to reside in its country.

Late last week, members of the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit participated in a SWAT team competition in the United Arab Emirates that also featured fighters from the Akhmat Kadyrov special police regiment, a notorious Chechen militia aligned with Putin that Ukrainian officials say has committed crimes against humanity during the war in Ukraine. The Guardian reported the NYPD’s decision to participate in the competition alongside the Kadyrov militia is unnerving human rights advocates.

The NYPD press office wouldn’t say whether Caban was on hand for the SWAT team games.

Caban has made frequent visits overseas since he became the city’s top cop in July 2023. In addition to his trips to Qatar and Dubai, he went on an official trip to the Dominican Republic in December.
