Meadows are bound to look beautiful during the month of August. Yusmarg is dotted with rainfall-fed rivers, streams and waterfalls. The fresh alpine meadows that cover the higher altitudes of these popular places to visit in Kashmir in August are home to wild goats and ponies or domesticated sheep and yak. Walking in the clean, serene pine forests is best during the misty monsoon season. The regular rainfall increases the beauty of Nilnag Lake and Doodhpathri severalfold and covers the surroundings in an evergreen tint. Make sure to visit Charari Sharief and Pakherpora shrine in Yusmarg.

Time taken to visit: 5 to 6 days

4. Gurez Valley

This unknown valley located deep in the lap of nature is surrounded by towering peaks of unscalable, snow-covered peaks on all sides. In the month of August, potato and maize fields all across the Gurez Valley enhance the beauty of Kashmir as a tourist place. Insect species native to this area come out and multiply. Slow-moving clouds often rest right above the valley giving everything a mysterious, fascinating aura. Gurez Valley is indeed a gold mine for photographers during this month. Several local species of flowers bloom early with the first rainfall; new leaves sprout on trees and animals come down to the meadows more.

Time taken to visit: 4 to 5 days

5. Kashmir Great Lakes Trek

The Great Lakes of Kashmir Trek

The best time of the year to successfully tick off this magnificent journey from your bucket list is in the months of August and September. The Kashmir Great Lakes trek takes travellers on a roundabout path to visit the 6 most fascinating Lakes of Kashmir –  Krishansar Lake, Vishansar Lake, Gadsar Lake, Satsar Lake, Gangabal Lake and Nundkol Lake. The days are pleasant but the nights are cold with only occasional rainfall (the high altitude and alpine climate mellows the monsoon months in this part of Kashmir). The path approximately covers 68 km. These lakes are located in the very heart of the central Kashmir Valley!

Entry fee: No Entry cost. A professional guide is required.

Time taken to visit: 6 days

Opening and closing hours: open 24 hour

6. Vaishno Devi Temple, Katra

Vaishno Devi Temple

Another destination that is best visited in the month of August is the Mata temple in Katra, near Jammu. Pilgrims undertake a 12 km walk from Katra town towards the Mata Vaishno Devi temple, which is located at an altitude of 5200 feet. Devotees can also find palanquin, horse and helicopter service to take them to the hilltop near the main temple building. When coming to Vaishno Devi, pilgrims must also visit the Gauri Mandir and Bhairavnath Temple, both part of the Yatra. It is one of the most religious places to visit in Kashmir in August , and the rains of Katra, warm Kashmiri Chai, seasonal dishes and enjoyable religious fairs all add to the fun.

Time taken to visit: 6 to 8 hours

Opening and closing hours: 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Kishtwar is also known for its offbeat beauty and hiking trails.

The Rice Bowl of Kashmir is another top name among the places to visit in Kashmir in August . Rain in Pulwama is more impactful and magnificent than any other tourist sightseeing in Kashmir . The winter rice sown in the month of June makes for some picture-perfect paddy fields and another top attraction in Pulwama is the saffron crop, accounting for one of the most profitable agricultural produce of Kashmir. The monsoon months are also good for visiting the many apple and orange orchards sprinkled all over Pulwama City.

Ladakh is known as the cold desert of India just a few kilometres from Kashmir and is counted as one of the most visited places in Kashmir in August . Leh, its capital, does not receive much rainfall any month of the year. But the humid atmosphere, brief showers and arid open valleys during the monsoon month of August all together make it a must-visit on the list of tourist places to visit in Kashmir in August . The Leh Palace located on a hilltop shows a beautiful architectural blend of Tibetan, Indian and Afghani styles. The Namgyal Monastery, Shanti Stupa and Zorawar Fort are tourist spots of similar historic importance. Popular kashmir tour packages, kashmir tour packages faqs.

Q. What is Gulmarg in Kashmir famous for? A. Make sure of the Kashmir packages you shortlist, it comprises a visit to bucolic Gulmarg. It is Gulmarg’s breathtaking natural setting amid mountains and lush valleys that is a big draw for tourists. Some of the popular activities tourists pursue in Gulmarg is riding the gondola and a trek to the scenic Alpather Lake. Gulmarg is preferred by nature lovers and trekkers owing to the abundance of trekking trails that lace the region. For those wishing to see a white winter landscape there isn’t a better destination than Gulmarg in the winters. Activities such as skiing and snowboarding gather steam in these months and you have travellers from across the world getting in to enjoy the ambience and some snow sports. Some of the other popular sightseeing destinations in Gulmarg comprise visits to the Apharwat Peak, Maharani Temple, Children’s Park, Maharaja Palace, Gulmarg Golf Course, St. Mary’s Church. Ningle Nallah, Strawberry Valley, Ferozpur Nallah and Khilanmarg. Q. Which is the best season to travel to Kashmir? A. Before scouring for Kashmir tour packages, research about the ideal time to visit this mountain state. Kashmir otherwise is a year-round destination, the summer and winter months having their special significance and charm. But most tourists prefer a summer visit, between March and October when the weather is pleasant through the day with lovely golden sunshine lasting all morning and noon. It is the time to see its many gardens in full bloom, capture the alpine meadows in all their lushness and drift on the waters of the Dal Lake in Srinagar and immerse yourself in the experience as life slowly returns to it after the lull of the winters. April to November is a good time to travel to Pahalgam and enjoy some white-water rafting. Horse-back riding is another popular activity in Pahalgam at this time of the year, as is golfing, with some wonderful golf resorts in the region. Winter is the best time to visit Kashmir if a trip to Gulmarg is on your mind. Come December and the region goes under a blanket of snow, making way of snow adventures such as skiing and snowboarding. Q. Which is the best way to travel around in Kashmir? A. Ahead of figuring out your Kashmir holiday packages, you need to be aware of the local mode of transport in order to get around. The predominant modes of transport in Kashmir are mini buses and taxis, although there are several auto-rickshaws available and comfortable air-conditioned buses too. Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation has its buses plying round the city, while Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation operates a fleet of luxury coaches that are perfect for going sightseeing around the state. The locals, however, prefer to take the mini bus, a versatile mode of transport, that can be found across the city including in the suburbs, at all times of the day. They always move on a pre- decided route. But for shorter distances, you can bank on an auto-rickshaw, easy to hail and perfect for heading into its narrow bustling bazaars and markets. Q. What is the best time to visit Kashmir? A. Before considering one of the Kashmir packages , you need to know in detail about the seasons of Kashmir and which more favourable for travel. Otherwise a year-round destination, it would be ideal to travel to Kashmir in the summer to fall months between March and October. You can see its blossoming gardens, hear the bird song, take in sweeping views of the alpine meadows and simply watch Srinagar’s Dal Lake hustle back to life. Visit Pahalgam between April and November for some rafting and horse-riding. For golf, come between April and November. But if snow is your thing and you care for some snowboarding and skiing, head to Gulmarg between December and first half of March. Q. Are there enough ATMs all across Kashmir? A. While you finalise one of the Kashmir tour packages , you need to be aware of how much cash you should be carrying and the number of ATMs at your disposal. The ATM network of Kashmir is quite vast, and you shouldn’t have difficulty spotting an ATM while travelling. However, it makes sense to always carry sufficient - not copious - cash at all times while travelling, because many an ATM could be out of order or have run out of cash. Srinagar has plenty of ATMs and withdrawing cash is not at all an issue, but it is not quite the same with Pahalgam and Gulmarg. There are fewer ATMs in these areas, so best to carry enough cash on you when venturing beyond Srinagar. Q. What is the local mode of transport in Kashmir? A. Though all the Kashmir travel packages you browse through will provide for your transportation, it is imperative to know how you can commute locally. Though the significant modes of transport in Kashmir are taxis and mini bus, you will also come across ample auto-rickshaws and luxury coaches. You can ride aboard a Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation bus or a Jammu & Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation bus that have a fleet of luxury coaches as well for local sightseeing within Kashmir. Else hire a tourist taxi that takes you to the local sights and also for trips outside Srinagar. The most preferred local transport is the mini bus which operates through the city and also in the suburban areas. They travel on a pre-fixed route. For shorter distances, rely on nothing other than the ubiquitous auto-rickshaws. Q. Are there direct flights from New Delhi to Kashmir? A. There are direct flights from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport also called the Srinagar Airport. Significant carriers like SpiceJet, AirAsia, GoAir, Vistara, IndiGo, Air India operate on this route, with the journey time of a non-stop New Delhi to Srinagar flight being approximately 1.5 hours. A well-served route, flights are available at a great frequency through the day. Q. When does the tulip festival in Kashmir take place? A. The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar hosts the tulip festival every year in the spring season - in April - when you can see an array of tulips in wondrous colours bloom to form an extremely photogenic landmark. Backed by the serene Dal Lake, the blossoming daffodils and hyacinths along with the iconic tulips draw in nature and photography lovers from all over the world to this gorgeous tulip garden in Srinagar. Q. What are the things to do in Gulmarg? A. Outside of taking in the splendid natural setting of Gulmarg with its mountains and green valleys, you are recommended a few other activities such as a gondola ride, trekking to Alpather Lake from the Gondola Phase 2 station. Gulmarg is filled with trekking routes but the most popular of them is the trek to Alpather Lake. In the winter months, skiing among other snow-activities like snowboarding are in full swing. However, to sum it up, the activities you cannot miss in Gulmarg other than the gondola ride and Alpather Lake trek include Apharwat Peak, Gulmarg golf course, Maharani temple, St. Mary’s Church, Maharaja Palace, Strawberry Valley, Children’s Park, Khilanmarg, Ningle Nallah and Ferozpur Nallah. Q. What are the places I can visit in Kashmir? A. Your Kashmir holiday should include a visit to Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Anantnag, Sonmarg, Awantipora, Aru Valley, Dachigam National Park, Harwan among others. A typical itinerary for Kashmir would be made up of stay in a houseboat on Dal Lake, a night in Gulmarg, a night in Pahalgam, about three nights in Srinagar and a day trip to Sonamarg.

In The Land Of Lama - The Great Ladakh Tour

MTA was a phenomenal company, and saw to my every request. As I traveled privately during a surge in the pandemic, there was added stress related with social distancing and testing, but MTA assisted me with finding test sites, transportation, and safe mask expectations. I wanted to visit several northern India sites within a short two week span, but they customized the trip for me in a manner that was action-packed, but not exhausting. The guides and drivers were knowledgeable and professional, and even allowed for me to explore some city sites on my own during free time. My process from start to finish was fluid and exceptional. Yes, I paid a chunk for this trip, but it was worth every rupee. I left feeling completely satisfied with my experiences, and MTA helped make it the trip of a lifetime.

Mystical Ladakh: A Cultural Expedition

Amazing tour! We are family of four, with 2 daughters (8 and 5 years old), who dared to go to Leh in December. We had a great time and learned a lot from our guide Lotus. He was very knowledgeable and always passionate to share and discuss about everything we asked (and with our girls there were a lot of questions). We were lucky with weather, as it was always sunny and not that cold during the day. We really liked our hotel (The Grand Dragon Ladakh) with great food and really nice cozy rooms. We highly recommend this tour!

07 Days Heavenly Kashmir Tour of India

My trip, Heavenly Kashmir Tour, was made perfect, largely because of our wonderful guide, Ishfaq Ahmad Shalla. We had a problem with every room we were given. We had booked a room with two beds and were continuously only given one. He worked his expert magic each day, going above and beyond his duties to make it happen for us which was not an easy task. Iahfaq speaks English very well and along with his knowledge and love for Kashmir it was magical. He made us feel comfortable and very well taken care of. Our driver Ayub was very nice, but he was on the phone all the time (even on video chat while driving in that crazy traffic). Several times he wondered away and we had to wait until he reappeared not knowing where he was. Kashmir was somewhere I’d wanted to go to for many years and with the best guide, Ishfaq Ahmad Shalla’s help it was amazing!

I really enjoyed my tour. This is a very remote area with unique culture and nature. I 've been there at the beginning of April before the tourist season starts, so I enjoyed the absence of crowds. However, nights were very cold, some hotels did not have heating, so hot bottles were my best friends. During the day the weather were beautiful, sunny. I enjoyed snow on the passes we crossed. My guide and driver were excellent. People we met at the hotels demonstrated wonderful hospitality. The tour company that organized this travel experience was very good, professional and responded to all my requests. I was feeling so happy during this trip, in peace with nature and the world ????
