The world tour everyone longed-for since over two years took us to 26 countries on 3 continents. After several pandemic related postponements the UNITED FORCES TOUR finally ignited in England May 2022 and brought together more than 800.000 fans, catapulting you into an euphoric orbit for a year and a half!

Sold out headline shows in Los Angeles, New York and Sao Paulo, legendary highlights like the show at the Prague O2-Arena, the Schleyerhalle in Stuttgart, or in front of 14.000 metalheads in Santiago de Chile and our first ever sold out concert at the iconic Budokan in Tokyo – the Holy Grail and the ultimate accolade for every rock band! 

Without a doubt there were tears in our eyes at the bombastic Hell & Heaven Festival in Mexico City, which closed the tour.  

Waving the UNITED FORCES flag, we opened a new live chapter after more than 35 years of band history: all seven of us rocked the stages, side by side with colleagues like Kiss, Scorpions or Deep Purple and, for the second time we headlined the Wacken Open Air!

We want to send our thanks to all of you, our loyal fans in Europe, the United States, Canada, Central & South America and Asia. We are incredibly grateful that you kept your tickets even with all the ongoing postponements and, that you stayed true fans, waiting patiently to finally see us live. 

As well, we would like to thank our friends in HAMMERFALL for accompanying us the majority of the dates and spicing up the tour with their pure Swedish metal, ensuring a sweaty, energetic and bombastic package.

Dear fans,  due to the sad and tragic event of this war, we are sorry to have to cancel our shows in Russia for 2023. We have amazing fans in Russia and Ukraine - music unites us all. No reason to sit back: with the clip for “OUT FOR THE GLORY“ the next exciting coup is coming as the successful year is ending. "I had an idea for a video where all band members are depicted as dinky, odd noble courtiers and ministers" Michael Weikath explains. „All of us should be floating in the clouds, Deris as a nutty emperor…and after a while more and more details came up and at one point in time we wrote everything down and sent the video concept to the Australian animation team“. Aaron McLoughlin, Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne, who has already been involved in several projects with Atomic Fire Records CEO Florian Milz (e.g. for Children Of Bodom, Alestorm, Tankard) mentioned: „When I heard that HELLOWEEN is interested in a collaboration I was totally gobsmacked. The boys are my absolute heroes since I was a teenager and I was sure that my students would love to work on a song by this band.“

And typically HELLOWEEN  - the creativity was so outrageous that it was impossible to feature everything in one music video. „Seven and a half minutes might not sound like a lot but in animation terms it is a marathon. We had so much great stuff that the production of “OUT FOR THE GLORY“ was a real challenge. Weiki wanted the video to look as cute as possible and we immediately knew: A legendary band from the other side of the planet wants us to create a medieval epic full of cuteness? You bet!" McLoughlin recollects.

With a bit over 10.000 frames the iconic animation short movie is not only extremely elaborate, but also wicked and spacy, will cause a commotion and hopefully also a lot of fun and enjoyment. As Michael Weikath wishes with a twinkle in his eye: „I now expect that everyone will enjoy this and think it is funny and also that they see the signification!"

The animated music video “OUT FOR THE GLORY“ is celebrating its world premiere on December, 17th 2021 and was implemented by the students of Bachelor of Design (Animation & Interactive Media), RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia .

Helloween (formed in 1984) is a German power metal and speed metal band, who are extolled by many for pioneering the power metal genre introduced by their 1987 album “Keeper of the Seven Keys, Pt. 1”, hailing from Hamburg, Germany.

Originally comprised of vocalist and guitarist Kai Hansen, guitarist Michael Weikath, bassist Markus Grosskopf, and drummer Ingo Schwchtenberg, in 1984 Halloween signed with Noise Records. The group’s recording debut came with a pair of tracks for the Noise Records compilation “Death Metal”, featuring label-mates Hellhammer, Running Wild, and Dark Avenger. Halloween’s debut self-titled EP was released in 1985 earning a spread of positive reviews. Featuring the intensity of speed metal and introducing the band to a wide audience, the record was followed by the full-length album “Walls of Jericho” in October 1985. Once again proving popular among fans, the album would be the last before Helloween took the reigns of a new power metal genre, becoming pioneers of a new sound.

A subsequent EP “Judas”, released in 1986, marked the removal of Kai Hansen as vocalist, who had been unable to fulfil both singing and guitar duties. Hansen moved to playing just guitar and vocal responsibilities fell to 18-year old Hamburg local Michael Kiske, who recorded on Helloween’s sophomore album “Keeper of the Seven Keys, Pt. 1”. Dubbed the album that invented power metal, the record earned widespread critical acclaim and peaked at No. 15 on the German Album Chart. A year later the album’s follow-up “Keeper of the Seven Keys, Pt. 2” was released, with which the single “I Want Out” was generously featured on MTV in support of its “Headbager’s Ball”. The group subsequently supported Anthrax on the Headbanger’s Ball Tour, exposing the group to a U.S. audience, and ultimately paving the way for worldwide success.

Guitarist Hansen left the band following the European leg of the “Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II” tour and was replaced by Roland Grapow. The live album “Live in the U.K.” arrived in 1989 after which Halloween experienced difficulties with Noise Records, which resulted in the band not putting out any new material until 1991’s “Pink Bubbles Go Ape”. Spawning the singles “Kids of the Century” and “Number One”, the record was most popular in Scandinavia but also found modest success in Austria, Japan, and the UK. Adopting synthesisers, horns, and acoustic guitars for their next release, 1993’s “Chameleon”, peaked at No. 8 in Japan despite performing poorly elsewhere. The band’s supporting tour highlighted a tumultuous period for the group and by 1993 Helloween were without singer Kiske and drummer Abdel-Nabi. A year later, with vocalist Andi Deris and drummer Uli Kusch, Halloween reappeared to release “Master of the Rings”, marking a return to form for the band. Following the suicide of former drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg, the band issued the tribute album “The Time of the Oath” which saw Halloween return to the heights of the European metal hierarchy. The full-length “Better Than Raw” followed in 1998, supported by a relentless world tour including dates in Europe, Japan, Brazil, and the U.S.

An album of Scorpions, Jethro Tull, Faith No More, and ABBA covers appeared in 1999 entitled “Metal Jukebox”, following which the band released their ninth studio album “The Dark Ride” in 2000. Guitarist Grapow and drummer Kusch were let go after the release and were replaced by Sascha Gerstner and Mark Cross respectively, who recorded on “Rabbit Don’t Come Easy” in 2003. The full-length “Gambling with the Devil” hit the shelves in 2007, followed three years later by “7 Sinners” in 2010. 2013’s “Straight Out of Hell” was led by the single “Burning Sun”, and suceeded by the full-length “My God-Given Right” in 2015.

Live reviews

Helloween was phenominal. From the first song "Helloween" through the final encore song "I Want Out" Helloween gave the crowd a heavy dose of German Power Metal that one could only hope to experience. Andi Deris and Michael Kiske worked the crowd and were fantastic vocalists sharing the same stage as Kai Hansen, Sascha Gerstener, and Michael Weikath pounded the crowd with unyeilding guitar work. Markus Graosskopf (bass) and Daniel Loble (drums) were the same. The stage show was very good as well.

My only complaint is the the venue, Concord Music Hall. It may be a fine venue for smaller crowd, but fans showed up in droves and filled the Hall to capacity to the point where no one could barely move (because we were packed in like sardines). The stage certainly appeared to be way undersized for Helloween's band members to move around and the video effects were almost rendered inneffective. I certainly am not blaming the Concord Music Hall for these woes, but management for underestimating Helloween's popularity in the States. Only a few shows were booked for North America to the point where my son and I drove the 500 miles to Chicago (beautiful City by the way) from Pittsburgh to see the band. I am sure tha there are other fans who did something similar.

All in all though, I would do it all over again because the band was that great and as I said earlier, simply phenominal. The Pumpkins United Tour was a success in so many ways and it is a shame that more fans could not be exposed to it.

If you happen to have the chance to see the Pumpkins United tour, and are even a casual fan of Helloween, I would advise that you take advantage of attending their show if possible!

Great show delivered with enthusiasm to an appreciative audience. Helloween has been delivering power metal since the '80s. In fact, I saw them back in '89 when they warmed up for Queensryche on the Operation Mindcrime tour. Of course, that was back when Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske were still around.

Anyway, Andi Deris does a fantastic job with the vocals these days and quite frankly, the albums that have come out since 2000, including Dark Ride, Gambling with the Devil, 7-Sinners, Straight out of Hell, and the namesake of the current tour My God-Given Right are the hardest rocking the band has made.

Well, the band dipped into all of those albums and more on Tuesday at the Playstation in NYC. The dual guitarist fronted metal is lick filled and in your face. Like Jack Black said, it's a face melter.

The crowd was a mix of old guard Helloween fans (you could tell by the thinning hair and 20 year old tour jackets) and young brash headbangers looking to be kicked in the teeth. No one should have left disappointed. The band rocked for the better part of two hours and was able to enlist the crowd's help on several sing alongs.

The venue has decent acoustics and sight lines. Drink prices are typical of NYC bars.

If you get a chance to catch Helloween on this your, get it done. They're not going to be able to continue at this level for ever. I for one am glad I caught them this time around and sincerely hope the crew has a couple more albums in them.

Power metal has been an integral genre to the musical landscape of Germany and one of the country's most internationally recognised groups is Helloween. If only for their incredible band name, this group of performers have been tearing a blistering trial since they formed way back in 1984. The lineup has gone through a variety of alterations yet fortunately for fans the musical identity and intense live show has remained the group's incredibly strong constant.

Michael Weikath stomps out onto the stage tonight and raises his hands in command for larger cheers before he allows guitarists Markus Grosskopf and Sascha Gerstner to rip into the introducing strings of 'Wanna Be God'. With almost a thousand appearances around the globe, this group's seem completely at home onstage and they know their discography inside out yet this does not mean that the show is static in any way this evening. There is a deep pulsating darkness running through all their tracks and an instrumental extremity tying everything together which is in turn fuelled by the huge enthusiasm of the fanbase. They cheer one final rapturous time as the final beats of 'Power' fade and stop rippling the battered speaker system.

What’s better than metal you ask? Why, I think this audience would say. THRASH METAL, their hands raised in the horn position as they make an excruciatingly painful face, but hey, each to their own. This band has been doing what they’re doing for almost thirty years. Formed in Germany in 1984, they have released four EPs, and 15 studio albums. All of which are on sale tonight, in this pretty cool metal flight case. The distortion is set to high, with the gain turned up to eleven as they deliver their thrashing guitar riffs, complete with blast beats on the drums. Tonight they perform a slew of some of their biggest singles such as “Sole Survivor” which has people with their horns up in the air throughout the song from start to finish. “Mr Ego” follows. One of the things that I wonder with this band is why they released so much material; maybe they’re more of a studio band than a live band. Their peers Metallica have seen a career the same length as theirs but with half the amount of albums. Fair play to them.

Fantastic! Amazing! No words to describe a dream concert with the classic line-up and a big enthouasmic from the band. In Madrid, at least, it was very special, with more than 12.000 people waiting for them, waiting for this reunion.

I highly recommend any fans to see them. They put on a great show, everything sounds beautiful. They are great to watch and listen to, seeing them enjoy playing and the vibe they send is so welcoming and warming. I am so glad I got to see them live. I wont forget seeing them.

The Concert was .... as A Helloween Concert always is... Brilliant..... It was epic.. and a 2hr 43 minute set was unreal and pure brilliance... :)

Only question i have is were can i get a Helloween Leather Jacket...( As two lead singers were wearing them...

Absolutely unforgettable experience!! The best vocals and music from a live concert that I've ever heard! Seeing Helloween live is the opportunity of a lifetime!! They are The very Best!

It was a long time coming for me as I've loved Helloween since I was a kid.. They were absolutely amazing and performed brilliantly on stage. Cannot wait to see them again live :)

HELLOWEEN Announce “United Forces Tour 2022” With HAMMERFALL

It was already foreseeable: Due to the pandemic, the originally for April/May scheduled HELLOWEEN European tour has to be postponed again. However, this is no reason to hang your head, even more so now: it is getting even more powerful in 2022!

We all have to stick together to stand and endure this agonizing live music gap and because extraordinary circumstances require extraordinary measures, HELLOWEEN invited their friends from HAMMERFALL to join them on their European tour in order to create a tremendous metal-package together. The UNITED FORCES TOUR 2022 called alliance is not only the full HELLOWEEN experience, on top the fans will enjoy fine Swedish steel out of the HAMMERFALL forge. Both bands will have brand-new albums in their luggage and the European fans will be able to listen to the new songs live for the very first time on the UNITED FORCES TOUR 2022. The long–awaited end of the dry spell is in sight – coming with a double dose in March, April and May 2022 as we have to catch up two years of METALPARTY to get cured from a lot of withdrawal symptoms!

The reunited expanded classic lineup of German power metallers HELLOWEEN will join forces with Sweden's HAMMERFALL for a European tour in the spring of 2022. The "United Forces 2022" trek will kick off on March 25 in Oslo, Norway and conclude on May 5 in London, England.

HELLOWEEN will release its new, self-titled album on June 18 via Nuclear Blast . The disc's first single, "Skyfall" , will arrive on April 2.

The cover artwork for "Helloween" was painted by artist Eliran Kantor , who has previously worked with HATEBREED , SOULFLY , TESTAMENT , ICED EARTH and SODOM , among others.

The "Pumpkins United" lineup features returning singer Michael Kiske and guitarist/vocalist Kai Hansen alongside current singer Andi Deris , guitarists Michael Weikath and Sascha Gerstner , bassist Markus Grosskopf and drummer Daniel Löble .

Produced by Charlie Bauerfeind and Dennis Ward , the new HELLOWEEN LP was recorded in part at the H.O.M.E. Studios in Hamburg (where everything started in 1984). The same recording console used for such HELLOWEEN albums as "Master Of The Rings" , "Time Of The Oath" and "Better Than Raw" was utilized to record the band's new material. The effort was mixed at the Valhalla Studios of Ronald Prent ( IRON MAIDEN , DEF LEPPARD , RAMMSTEIN ).

HELLOWEEN 's new album saw the legendary German power metallers going "back to the roots," with the band recording fully analogue and Löble playing the drum kit previously used by HELLOWEEN 's original drummer, the late Ingo Schwichtenberg , on the legendary "Keeper Of The Seven Keys" recordings.

The "Pumpkins United" tour marked the first time Kiske had played live with HELLOWEEN since 1993. Hansen , who departed HELLOWEEN in 1988, had been joining the band onstage on various tours and festival appearances throughout the years. The set featured several duets with Kiske and his replacement, Deris , along with many rarely played songs, including "Kids Of The Century" , "Rise And Fall" and "Livin' Ain't No Crime" . Hansen — who fronted HELLOWEEN until late 1986 — sang a medley of several early HELLOWEEN classics, including "Ride The Sky" , "Judas" , "Starlight" and "Heavy Metal (Is The Law)" .

The "Pumpkins United" lineup of HELLOWEEN already released one new song — aptly titled "Pumpkins United" — in October 2017.

The band finally announced their ‘United Forces Tour’ with special guests Hammerfall, for 2022 as well as sharing the epic new cover artwork for their new studio album. Get it all below….

Due to the pandemic, the dates for HELLOWEEN’s European tour, which was originally scheduled for April/May 2021, have been postponed again.

However, this is no reason to hang your head, as the newly rescheduled tour will be even more exciting.

We all have to stick together to make it through this agonising live music gap, and because extraordinary circumstances require extraordinary measures,  HELLOWEEN  have invited their friends from  HAMMERFALL  to join them on their rescheduled European tour, to create a tremendous metal-package.

The  UNITED FORCES TOUR 2022 will now not only feature the full  HELLOWEEN  experience, but fans will also get a taste of fine Swedish steel, straight out of the  HAMMERFALL  forge.

Helloween Enthralls New York City’s Terminal 5 With Bands Greatest Hits

German heavy metal icons Helloween touched down in New York City, at Terminal 5, on May 20th for their United Forces World Tour with HammerFall. They are supporting their most recent and ambitious album from 2021, Helloween, while celebrating their vast musical catalog. Helloween is synonymous with power, precision, and perseverance. Throughout their career, they have shaped, refined, and steadily broadened the scope of what metal should sound like.

Their trek started on May 13th in Dallas, Texas, and winds through thirteen cities before drawing to a close on June 3rd in San Francisco, California.

The concert unfolded on a stage built with multiple risers and a giant orange pumpkin drum riser center stage. Michael Kiske and Andi Deris [vocals], Kai Hansen [guitar/vocals], Michael Weikath and Sascha Gerstner [guitar], Markus Grosskopf [bass], and Daniel Löble [drums] hit the stage with a sense of purpose to deliver the best metal show possible to the packed Terminal 5. As soon as the first chord of “Skyfall” was struck, thongs of fans on the floor lunged toward the stage. Ravenous worshipper rock rocked back and forth while pumping their fists in gratitude for the bands’ long-awaited return! As “Skyfall” came to a close with its addictive hook, Helloween had New York City in the palm of their hands. They followed that glorious track up with “Eagle Fly Free” and then “Mass Pollution.” Helloween have been going strong for over 40 years and appears to have brought a renewed call to arms to metal fans worldwide.

Every song in their 2-hour set was played with the unbridled passion and energy of when they were written. Their set list covered 15 songs plus a medley of four additional songs from their 16 studio albums, including “Save Us,” “Dr. Stein,” “Heavy Metal,” “Power,” “Perfect Gentlemen,” and “Future World.” But don’t expect to hear any deep tracks from Helloween’s legacy. I caught up with guitarist Sascha pre-show and asked him if they would be playing any obscure tracks for the diehard fans. He replied, “ We realized a while ago there are maybe ten diehards who this would make happy, but the rest of the people would stand there with question marks above their heads. Creating setlists is tough as the band has many albums and a long history. Adding those types of songs doesn’t make sense for people who don’t know Helloween’s catalog. ” Thankfully the band stuck to a set list of their most known and best songs!

Having three of metal’s best guitarists gave the songs the heft and lift they needed to capture exactly how they were originally recorded. Kai, Michael, and Sascha worked in perfect harmony to ensure that the nuances and intricacies that make up these tremendous songs were not lost or overlooked. All three have unique musical personalities, and the fans can see and feel it. They carefully and systematically took their respective parts with vigor, as the sum of the whole is always greater than the individual parts when it comes to performing Helloween songs perfectly. Kai impressively took on lead vocals while playing guitar for the medley of songs mid-set, which included “Metal Invaders,” “Victim of Fate,” “Gorgar,” and “Ride the Sky.” When they stood shoulder-to-shoulder during “Dr. Stein” and “How Many Tears,” it was a soul-crushing display of sonic guitars, ensuring they were heard well beyond the venue’s walls.

Keeping up with the guitarists playing was Daniel on the drums. His playing propelled the galloping songs, thunderous speed metal songs, and more subtle songs like “Forever and One.” He methodically kept perfect time but in a highly technical fashion using his monstrous four-bass drum kit atop the pumpkin drum riser. It often seemed as if he was hitting his drums to get more volume and power, hoping to match the monstrous sound emanating from his bandmates.

Markus’s bass sound was strong and confident! He gives the songs their backbone and low-end rumble while fleshing out their signature metal sound. He knows how to handle a song by playing between the melody and the harmony, which is felt more than heard. He bashed out bass lick after lick with sheer brute force while playing in the pocket of Daniel’s drum playing. He also had the coolest bass carving of a pumpkin face.

Michael and Andi handled the vocals trading off songs, harmonies, and guttural screams. Their combined range and power perfectly match the band’s thematic and emotional songwriting as their voice soared melodically above the ferocious rhythms and complex arrangements the band puts forth. This is all done meticulously while they tirelessly entertaining the audience. They slowed things down for a few minutes to let fans catch their breath with “Forever and One” as they sat on stools at the edge of the stage. A heartfelt ballad that Andi wrote for his ex-wife. The powerhouse vocalist clearly have mutual admiration and respect for each other’s abilities!

The stage production was an equal spectacle on par with their music. Colorful thematic visual elements were used to elevate each song’s musical appeal on the video screen behind the band. This was brilliantly achieved with 3-D animation, cartoons, and video game-esque creatures coming to live in their 50-foot spender. The show revolves around the pumpkin riser, which is a tremendous thematic aspect of the show.

Before the final encore of the night of “I Want Out,” the band appeared on stage and were inducted into the Metal Hall of Fame as they have helped establish the origins of power metal to the heavy metal community as well. They looked excited and honored to receive this prestigious award.

What has always impressed me about Helloween is their uncanny ability to develop songs that offer a wide variety of styles, as only true innovators can master that art, then ties the collection together with a ribbon so they all sound like a cohesive unit whether written four decades ago or from the most recent album. For this tour, they assembled the perfect combination of songs in the setlist and married it with big production elements to mirror the sentiment. Not only are the members of Helloween are terrific entertainers, but also a tremendous group of musicians who can easily deliver epic performances. HELLOWEEN Announce ‘United Forces Tour 2022’ With HAMMERFALL; Album Artwork Revealed

Due to the pandemic, the originally for April/May scheduled  HELLOWEEN  European tour has to be postponed again. However, this is no reason to hang your head, even more so now: it is getting even more powerful in 2022!

We all have to stick together to stand and endure this agonizing live music gap and because extraordinary circumstances require extraordinary measures,  HELLOWEEN  invited their friends from  HAMMERFALL  to join them on their European tour in order to create a tremendous metal-package together.  The UNITED FORCES TOUR 2022  called alliance is not only the full  HELLOWEEN experience, on top the fans will enjoy fine Swedish steel out of the  HAMMERFALL   forge. Both bands will have brand-new albums in their luggage and the European fans will be able to listen to the new songs live for the very first time on the  UNITED FORCES TOUR 2022 . 2021 really is turning out to be a year that musically just keeps on giving! Not only have we been blessed with some great releases from new, upcoming bands, but many bands that have formed a staple part of any rock/metal fans listening over the last few decades have taken full advantage of the lack of touring and live music and hit the studio to record and release incredible albums.

The latest to do that are legendary German power metal/speed metal act Helloween .

Their new opus ‘Helloween’ comes out on June 18 th and really is something truly special. It is an exceptional album that encompasses everything that is good and great about the bands music and legacy and it sees them expand their line up to a 7 piece as they welcome back former members Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen into the studio environment.

I say into the studio environment as this line up have already released the phenomenal live album “Pumpkins United – Live in Madrid” in 2019 but I think at the time the tour announcement was made nobody could have envisaged a full return to the line up for the two men who were a major part of setting the band on their genre defining path back in the 1980’s before departing for pastures new.

That new line up announcement in 2016, saw vocalist Michael Kiske , who left in 1993 and guitarist/vocalist Kai Hansen who had departed in 1989 re-join the only two remaining original members, guitarist Michael Weikath and bassist Markus Grosskopf , both who have been in every line up of the famed German metallers.

The new seven piece line-up is completed by Kiske’s replacement, Andi Deris , who has been handing vocals since 1994, guitarist Sascha Gerstner , a member since 2002 and drummer Daniel Loeble who has been providing the thunder at the back since 2005.

Loeble says of this stunning new creation from the bands incredible new line-up “This record is the coronation of the PUMPKINS UNITED journey! Still today I am fascinated by the different character traits and facets of the HELLOWEEN history.

As an example I’d like to point out the legendary voices of Michi, Andi and Kai. To enjoy them now together on one record, under one flag is the ultimate HELLOWEEN experience” . He is not wrong as this is surely stuff that dreams are made of for Helloween fans of any age around the world.

The press release comes with the headline “This is the beginning of a new time calculation: Forget HELLOWEEN – here comes HELLOWEEN” . A truly bold statement but one that the album and the band not only live up to but smash out of the park!

As you may well gather, I was just a little bit excited about this release. The “Live in Madrid” album that these incredible seven musicians recorded is still now getting regular airtime at home and in the car and even with that, as a Helloween fan of some 34 years I never ever envisaged the day that Kiske and Hansen would return to the fold and enter the studio to record another album with their former bandmates.

So with excitement levels already high and the album arriving in my inbox, it was time to hit play. The instrumental build up to ‘Out For Glory’ definitely raised those levels even higher, but when that ends and the vocals kick in, WOW! This feels like meeting an age old friend again for the first time in many years.

The album opener is pure and simply a classic Helloween track. Full of thundering drums, exquisite guitaring and vocal parts to die for. There is melody aplenty and those oh so subtle time changes that for me are the hallmarks of all the great tracks by this legendary act.

‘ Fear Of The Fallen’ follows on beautifully to keep the momentum going. A delicate Andi Deris vocal intro quickly leads into another fast paced slice of sumptuous power metal. The riffage on this track is just electrifying, the vocals soar and the harmonies between Deris and Kiske are just a joy to behold and the driving force behind it all, the rhythm section of Grosskopf and Loeble provide a truly insatiable beat.

Both singers were keen to talk about their joy in this devine number, “I had so much fun not only writing a song for my voice but also for one of the greatest singers out there.

I always have an extremely broad smile on my face when I hear Michi singing my melodies“ , says Deris and Kiske adds: ”The whole process, including the spirit, was just ideal. If I had the feeling that one of the parts would not be really fitting, I asked Andi if he would sing it and vice versa. There was no competition whatsoever – what counted was what is best for the respective song”.

‘ Best Time’ which is one of the albums lighter tracks has a totally infectious beat to it throughout. A real sing-a-long tune, it has a bit of a Billy Idol style vibe to it. Pure fun throughout and it will get inside your head at the very least. If any radio stations want a Helloween track to get on air, then this completely accessible is perfect for them as although different, it still showcases everything that is good about the band.

‘ Mass Pollution’ arrives with a delightful bass and drum intro that leads into an out and out metal track with some ravenous Rob Halford style vocals. The track thunders along at breakneck speed, spitting and growling out of your stereo as it keeps you captivated throughout. “Make Some Noise” is a lyrical request throughout and if this beast of a tune makes it into the bands live set, the crowds will certainly be clamouring to do that.

Next up is ‘Angels’ . This Sascha Gerstner penned song is a powerful number that takes the album into its middle third. Complete with some glorious dual vocals from Messrs Deris and Kiske, it is yet another number with some of those much loved time changes.

They really give the track and ebb and flow feel as it soars over some thunderous peaks before swooping down in majestic fashion to find moments of stunning tranquillity including a guitar solo that itself flows in an almost celestial state.

‘ Rise Without Chains’ is yet another track with more than a bit of a classic Helloween feel to it and would not have been out of place on any of the bands ‘Keeper of the Seven Keys’ trilogy releases. That leads into ‘Indestructible’ . A Markus Grosskopf written number that lyrically may be an analogy towards the unbreakable career of the band.

It is punchy, catchy, infectious and built to induce yet more sing-a-long moments or air guitar/drumming, whatever is your chosen weapon of choice. Resplendently full of those much desired harmonies and melodies it will keep you entertained time and time again. Oh and just try keeping those feet still while listening to it.

A real crunching riff and thundering drums heralds the arrival of the ‘Robot King’ . This seven minute speed metal monster is just sumptuous and sees the band at full tilt. It is awe-inspiring, luscious and above all jaw-droppingly brilliant.

This leads superbly into ‘Cyanide’ , another track that that sees the band encompassing their whole 35 year career as it is more speed metal than power metal. These two tracks, make sure that you the listener get no chance for a little respite break as they hurtle forward at full throttle.

Screaming guitars, monstrous riffage, machine gun drumming and in your face vocals surely pay complete homage to the bands earlier releases in regal fashion.

The guitar driven ‘Down In The Dumps’ returns the album back into power metal territory that should more than satisfy fans of the genre before you get ‘Orbit’ , a brief one minute musical interlude that leads into the monstrously epic and gargantuan album closer ‘Skyfall’ .

Well what of ‘Skyfall’ , in all honesty it just has to be heard to be believed, it is a sonic delight from start to finish, that provides pleasure to your aural senses throughout. For me, part of the appeal of Helloween is the fantastically epic tunes that they write, think ‘Halloween’ , ‘Keeper of the Seven Keys’ or ‘King For A Thousand Years’ , well now add ‘Skyfall’ to that list, it is up there with all of them.

If ‘Helloween’ was an a la carte dining experience then the previous 11 tracks would have left you feeling stuffed but with just enough room for dessert, and that final course called ‘Skyfall’ would have just made the whole dining experience one you are going to remember and talk about for ever and a day. Earlier this year, I got to review the seven minute single version of the track but to truly hear it in all its unassailable glory, this is the version you need to hear. It certainly brings the curtain down on what could well be a career defining release in perfect fashion.

If Helloween wanted to or needed to add to their already legendary back catalogue, then they have done this in consummate fashion with this, their 16 th studio album.

It is obviously more than just being about the three vocalists, but the extra harmonies and the way those vocalists all work together gives this new material a really special feel. ‘Helloween’ is about using the bands 35 year musical legacy to move the band forward so you get Helloween past to create Helloween present and it creates a stupefyingly brilliant glimpse into Helloween future.

‘ Helloween’ has all the hallmarks and more of being one of the great Helloween albums. Hearing both Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen back in this iconic band whisked me straight back to a bygone time when I was studying for my A-Levels at school. Now as I meander through middle age I can hopefully look forward to many more releases from a band I have loved for two thirds of my life with one of my favourite ever singers at the forefront again and a 7 piece “Happy Happy Helloween”.

HELLOWEEN“ will be released on June 18th, 2021 through Nuclear Blast as a 2CD-Digibook, 1CD-Jewelcase, 2LP-2CD Earbook and as an elaborate Deluxe-Boxset including the Earbook, a Helloween-wall clock , pins, necklace, patch and an art print of the cover.

It will be available digitally as well as on vinyl with a 2LP Gatefold-version in different colors and a picture disc. For all collectors HELLOWEEN will also be offered as a limited spectacular 3LP-Hologramm vinyl.
