Organised a great trip for 20 people to…

Organised a great trip for 20 people to Spain. Was so easy to deal with and extremely helpful. Everything went smoothly in terms of transfers , accommodation and flights, would highly recommend using Dawson travel for any upcoming trip you have especially if for a large group.

Amazing at organising our big complicated trip!

Couldn't recommend Paul Dawson highly enough! He organised a 3 month holiday containing several different countries for us! He gave us a big folder with all the information we needed and if we ever had issues whilst away, he was always at the other end of the phone if we needed him. He got us great deals and was always lovely to talk to! Very grateful for helping us achieve our dream travelling experience! Thank you, Greg and Laura!

The holiday was fantastic.

The holiday was fantastic. The apartment was perfect to our needs. The hotel location in Cambrils was also perfect, being quieter than either Salou itself or the Port area 10 mins either side. The flights were grand and short from Cork, and the taxis were great both times. Baggage on flights was also grand. Local bus routes were cheapo and regular, great service. So, overall delighted. Paul was a pleasure to deal with throughout, would highly recommend booking with Dawson Travel

Truly Amazing Experience

We went through Dawson Travel for a number of holidays over the past few years as well as our Honeymoon and the occasional premier league match. We have to say that they have been absolutely excellent and without their knowledge we certainly wouldn't have enjoyed our holidays as much as we did. Their expertise in identifying the best hotels, areas, restaurants etc. was such a huge benefit. We cannot rate Dawson Travel highly enough and have recommended to friends and family who have also use them and have had amazing experiences too. Thank you to all at Dawson Travel for providing such great tailored holiday packages.

Thank you very much for your kind words.

Wonderful experience with Dawson Travel! Highly recommend

Having used Dawson Travel, the first time using an agent, I am blown away at the exceptional service provided by Paul. He was more than happy to answer all of my questions (which in a world post covid, there were many!) with great promptness. Highly recommend and will be booking our next holiday with Dawson Travel.

5 stars! Superb experience.

Honestly I can’t recommend them enough. Professional, knowledgeable and really worked to get me the best price. We went on a trip over to Liverpool to watch a game and stay in the city overnight. Right from the first communication I knew I was in good hands. We stayed right in the city centre and had great match day hospitality tickets for a great price. I will 100% be using Dawson Travel for all of my sports trips in the future. If you want a stress free trip, great value, excellent support, then look no further.

Honeymoon of our dreams

I could not recommend Dawson Travel highly enough. I booked my honeymoon to Toronto and Mexico through this travel agency. Our wedding date had to be changed 3 times due to covid lockdowns which heavily affected our travel plans. They could not help us enough and they even had to change locations from Las Vegas to Toronto last minute due to new USA covid restrictions at the time. They made an extreme uncertain and stressful time as easy going as possible navigatingus through all obstacles. They took all of the hassle about testing information and rebooking flights away from us so that we could focus on our wedding and enough of trip away. We had the absolute best experience of our lives as they booked us into a brand new resort in Mexico called Planet Hollywood. We still speak to people we met on that holidays and it truly was the best holiday we ever had with memories for life. We would have been lost without thier help and support from start to finish. Top class service.

Thank you Tony, you were a pleasure to deal with.

Recent trip to USA

Here's what I wrote to Paul in Dawson Travel recently. I've taken out some personal details. Too many weirdos on the Web! Paul, Not sure if you wanted a review of our recent trip to USA but I'll do one anyway!! You'll recall we flew from Shannon to NY and came home 10 days later from Boston. Parking in Shannon was the easiest we've seen. A minute's walk to the terminal. Then no delay to check in, all calm and quiet, breezed quickly through customs and while the choice of food and shops isn't Dublin Airport standard w'd.still much prefer the tranquility of Shannon. Aer Lingus flights were both fine. Or some of us on each flight the movie screen didn't work which did drag a bit after a few hours! Said they'd come back and fix it but didn't. Delay.for >.30minutes waiting for the transfer (claimed it would take 45 minutes, was easily over 80), 4pm heavy traffic. The Sanctuary Hotel was great. Comfortable, quiet, pleasant staff. Excellent location, thanks! Terrible buffer breakfast, though! Might remind travellers also to have a few dollars (small denominations!) ready for tips as soon as they arrive. Gorgeous train trip from NY to Boston, very comfortable and beautiful countryside. Very convenient car-hire drop off at Boston /Logan Airport. Thanks again, Paul. We'll be back to Dawson! JFM

5 sneaky travel scams that target your money and how to avoid them

GasBuddy head of petroleum analysis Patrick de Haan shares his forecast for gas prices ahead of busy summer travel.

Gasoline prices to be steady throughout summer travel: GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan

GasBuddy head of petroleum analysis Patrick de Haan shares his forecast for gas prices ahead of busy summer travel.

It can be very exciting to receive an email, direct-mail letter or phone call letting you know you’ve won a "free cruise" or an "all-expenses-paid-vacation to a tropical island."

These trip offers, unfortunately, are often nothing but a scam.

And even beyond these fake travel opportunities , there are other ways scammers are trying to snatch your hard-earned vacation dollars, such as through fraudulent or misleading travel websites and false vacation rental listings.

AMID SURGING CRUISE SHIP ILLNESSES, EXPERTS SHARE WAYS TO STAY SAFE ON THE HIGH SEAS

There were over 30,000 complaints filed by American travelers within the last several years against such travel scams, according to the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Also, there were more than 10,000 negative BBB reviews outlining consumer issues — everything from not receiving travel services that people paid for, to receiving unsolicited and unscrupulous trip offers.

With vacation scams and schemes on the rise, experts shared the top red flags to watch for as consumers book hard-earned trips and getaways.  (iStock / iStock)

Fox News Digital reached out to two experts about red flags regarding these fraudsters amid the rise of vacation scams and schemes today.

‘Prime opportunity for scammers’

A summer vacation can be the highlight of the year for many Americans. It may also be one of the costliest planned expenses during the year.

"This makes it a prime opportunity for scammers to pounce," cautioned Dan Cusick, a fraud and claim executive with Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., in Charlotte, North Carolina.

HERE ARE THE TOP US CITIES FOR A ‘STAYCATION’ THIS SUMMER AND WHAT TO DO WHILE THERE

"Bad actors look for key seasons, like summer vacations, to exploit your excitement and ‘pickpocket’ your cash in different ways."

Here are five top scams today to know about — and what to do about them.

5 top scams to know about today

1. fake travel websites  .

Consumers need to be on the lookout for "spoofing"— false information or fake travel websites disguised as legitimate, trusted or known sources, said Cusick.

woman holding credit card and phone

Travel websites may "look legit, and they might offer attractive deals on flights, hotels and vacation packages, but when you make a payment, your money may go straight into the scammers’ pockets." (iStock / iStock)

"These travel websites look legit, and they might offer attractive deals on flights, hotels and vacation packages , but when you make a payment, your money may go straight into the scammers’ pockets," Cusick told Fox News Digital.

Also, be cautious about third-party agents.

ONLINE PASSPORT RENEWAL IS BACK — HERE'S HOW TO DO IT

"Scammers may say they’ll handle the booking plans and collect your payment for the trip, and then victims of these scams show up at the airport for a flight that doesn’t exist or at a hotel that was never booked," said Cusick.

2. Suspicious payment requests

Another scam indicator? Suspicious payment requests.

Does the travel site demand that you "book immediately" and require an odd form of payment? It's likely a scam.

"If a purported travel website asks for payment in the form of a gift card or wire transfer , that’s a definite red flag that you’re dealing with a scammer," said Cusick.

And don’t be strong-armed to book — that’s another notable red flag.

If the travel site demands that you "book immediately" and requires an odd form of payment to secure a great price, it’s likely a scam, indicated Cusick.

"An excellent rule of thumb is that if a travel deal seems too good to be true, and the cost is dramatically less than that of other competitors, it’s a red flag that it could be a scam," he said.

3. ‘Disappearing vacation’ rentals

Scammers capitalize on the popularity of vacation properties rented on well-known online marketplaces such as Airbnb and VRBO, or social media sites by offering properties online that don't exist or don't belong to them, Cusick said.

DISNEY SPENDING: NEARLY 50% OF PARENTS WITH YOUNG CHILDREN TAKE ON DEBT FOR THEME PARK TRIP

"They may pressure you to send an immediate deposit," he said.

"Then ultimately, you’re out that money and left with no rental."

When it comes to disappearing vacation rental scams, Cusick noted that consumers should be on the lookout for the following red flags:

  • Property listings that require you leave the website to make a payment on another unsecured platform or that request immediate payment in an odd payment form — for example, crypto , a gift card or a wire transfer
  • Pressure from the "landlord" to pay immediately or lose the property
  • Request that you wire money to secure the booking

4. ‘You’ve-just-won-a-free-vacation’ notices

Prize scams can involve fraudsters contacting you to say that you’ve won a free vacation or prize.

"Scammers may say you are required to pay a fee to receive that ‘prize’ or to pay for taxes or fees upfront," said Cusick.

TOP SUMMER TRAVEL DESTINATIONS FOR 2024: THESE INTERNATIONAL SPOTS WERE THE MOST SEARCHED

"They may ask you to send that money directly or ask for direct account information to collect fees, and never send the prize."

The red flags consumers should be on the lookout for regarding prize scams include the following:

  • Your free vacation prize notice arrived via mail and was sent at a bulk mail rate.
  • You have to pay to collect your free vacation prize.
  • You receive an "act-now" offer. Scammers tell you the free vacation is a "limited-time offer," pressuring you to act quickly to claim your prize so that you don’t have time to think and assess the situation, Cusick said.

5. Unknown travel companies

"If you've never heard of the travel company before, do your research," cautioned Sally French, travel expert with NerdWallet in San Francisco .

Avoid travel bookings if you haven’t read actual traveler reviews of the product or service, said one travel expert.  (iStock / iStock)

"Look for reviews online, check their website for legitimacy, and see if they are registered with a travel industry association."

In general, she also recommends avoiding travel bookings if you haven’t read actual traveler reviews of the product or service.

Best overall practices to avoid travel scams

Your common sense plays the most important role in being able to tell if something sounds too good to be true.

In addition, Wells Fargo shared some other tips.

Know and trust the intended recipient. Don’t send money to people you don’t know or can’t confirm as legitimate.

Avoiding clicking on links from an unsolicited email, text messages or online ads . This could be a "phishing" ploy and could be a way for scammers to install malware on your device or send you to a fraudulent site.

"Be on the lookout for any charges you don’t recognize so you can dispute them as quickly as possible," said one expert. (iStock / iStock)

Use caution when scanning QR codes to pay for items or services. While these codes can be a convenient feature used by legitimate businesses or sellers, be aware that scammers may use QR codes to send you to a malicious site, or fake website where they can steal your payment information.

What if you do fall victim to a travel scheme?

If you do become the victim of a travel scam or scheme, immediate action should help control your losses.

"First, report any card theft to your bank or credit card issuer, " said French with NerdWallet. "They’ll be able to cancel the card before the thief does any more damage."

17 Unique Things to do in Dawson City, Yukon

Last Updated on July 17, 2024

Dawson City is one of my absolute favorite towns in the entire world . I’ve been lucky enough to visit many times, when I lived in Skagway and when I lived in Fairbanks . I’ve also had the chance to visit since then while updating the Milepost as well as with guests on tours. Dawson is in Canada’s stunning Yukon Territory north of British Columbia and east of Alaska.

Combine the location with extensive history and culture and friendly locals and lots of quirky and unique things to do, it’s impossible not to love Dawson City. It is well set up for visitors, but doesn’t feel crowded. There are so many interesting things to do in Dawson City , from learning about the Klondike Gold Rush to exploring First Nations Culture to hiking the wild beauty of Tombstone Territorial Park.

Dawson City isn’t easy to get to, it’s a long day’s drive from Fairbanks and a slightly shorter, but still long way from Whitehorse. For travelers who like to get off the beaten path, Dawson City is an ideal place to add to your Yukon or Alaska itinerary.

This area has long been and still is home to the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nations people. After the discovery of gold along Bonanza Creek in 1896, Dawson exploded to become the largest city north of Seattle with 30-50,000 people by 1898. In addition to prospective miners, Dawson was filled with high end entertainment and services for those joining in the gold rush. Today Dawson is home to less than 2000 people and tons of adventure and history. It’s a small community far away from major airports and it is absolutely worth the effort to get to this unique and unforgettable town.

How to get to Dawson City

Dawson City is in the remote northern part of Canada’s Yukon Territory , and it’s not easy to get to! This is part of what makes it such a fun place to visit and it’s absolutely worth the effort to get there.

map of alaska and western canada showing the location of Dawson City

Note: Dawson City is NOT the same place as Dawson Creek, British Columbia , the official start of the Alaska Highway.

How to get to Dawson City by Air

To get to Dawson City by Air, you can fly from Whitehorse , the largest town in the Yukon. Whitehorse has multiple flights a day from Vancouver as well as other Canadian cities.

How to Drive to Dawson City from Whitehorse or Alaska

Driving from whitehorse to dawson city on the klondike highway.

This scenic 330 mile/530 kilometer drive takes about 6 hours in good weather. The road is in good condition, though there are very few services and limited cell phone service. In the summer months, scheduled bus transportation is available between Whitehorse and Dawson City. The Klondike Highway is open all year.

Driving to Dawson City from Alaska over Top of the World Highway

dawson travel reviews

Top of the World Highway is one of the most stunning stretches of road I’ve been on. The remoteness and the scenery are incredible, especially in fall which is early September here.

The road is partially gravel and partially paved , with many steep drop offs without guardrails. Take it super slow (plan on it taking AT LEAST 5 hours to go from Tok to Dawson) and watch out for the dropoffs! You won’t want to hurry on this road anyway, it’s so incredibly beautiful.

There are no services between Tok, Alaska and Dawson except in Chicken (yes, there’s a town in Alaska called Chicken). Chicken is 108 miles from Dawson and Tok is 175 miles from Dawson. The total driving distance from Fairbanks to Dawson is about 400 miles and the total driving distance from Anchorage to Dawson is about 500 miles. Top of the World Highway closes in winter. There is very little cell service along this route.

There are two other important things to note if you are driving from Alaska on Top of the World Highway:

  • The border crossing between Alaska and the Yukon closes at night . The last time I was there, the border closed at 8pm Alaska time/9pm Yukon time. If you miss the border opening you’ll have to wait at the border until the next day. The border crossing is not open as early or late as the road is so it’s important to check on the current dates for the border season. There is a one hour time change between Alaska and Canada at the border.
  • Top of the World Highway ends on the west side of the Yukon River, directly across from Dawson City. There is a free ferry called the George Black ferry which takes cars and people across the river from mid May through sometime in October. The exact timing depends on when the river is free of ice and when it starts to freeze up again in the fall. The ferry crossing is short (less than 10 minutes) but you may need to wait a bit before you can cross.

I recommend spending two nights in Dawson City, giving yourself a full day to explore. If you can make it three nights, you’ll have two full days in town, giving you plenty of opportunity to see everything the town has to offer as well as fit in a hike or a tour on the river. This will also give you time to get out to the Discovery Claim and Gold Dredge #4.

If you only have one day, you’ll still have time to take in the town and get out to the Discovery Claim, but it will be a busy day and you’ll have to make some choices about what to see.

Explore Historic Downtown Dawson City

A wooden historic building with windows and a sign that says Maxmillian's Gold Rush Emporium

Walking around historic downtown Dawson City is a great way to get started and get a feel for where you are. Pop into the Visitor Information Center to get the latest happenings around town and get all of your questions answered. This is a good place to get information on any tours you might want to book during your stay. You can also find maps and a ton of informaton. Get tickets here for the Klondike National Historic Site walking tours , a great way to get oriented and catch up on gold rush history!

Parks Canada also offers an interpretive tour of the restored Palace Grand Theatre.

The Dawson City Museum is another great place to learn about the natural and cultural history of this part of the Yukon.

You can further explore the historic buildings from the wooden boardwalks, checking out shops and restaurants and more!

My favorite shop in Dawson is Maxmillien’s Gold Rush Emporium. Maxmillien’s is an amazing independent bookstore with an impressive selection of maps . One of the many fun shops in historic downtown Dawson, you can also find gifts from the Yukon and souvenirs to remember your trip.

In addition to the perfectly restored historic buildings, some have been left as they were and you can see what happens to old buildings build on frozen ground! They start to sink or tilt when some of that frozen ground melts.

Several empty historic wooden buidings leaning over

Long before the Klondike Gold Rush made Dawson City famous around the world, the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nations people lived and thrived here for generations. Today, the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in people are self governing and continue to steward the land and culture for modern people and those in the future.

At the Cultural Centre, you can see exhibits and learn about the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in people’s language, stories and culture from the people who have stewarded this land for generations.

Join the Sourtoe Cocktail Club – or enjoy a less gross cocktail

The Sourtoe Cocktail is a world famous activity at the Sourdough Saloon (worth a visit even if you don’t want to become a member of the club). The Sourdough Saloon is in the Downtown Hotel and offers food and drinks in a fun historic setting.

Becoming a member of the Sourtoe Cocktail Club (I’m a member!) involves taking an oath, taking a shot which has a preserved human toe in it which you have to touch your mouth to (ack! I know!) and then getting a certificate. I know it sounds gross, and it is, but it’s the kind of fun and quirky thing you can totally do if you get caught up in the moment.

Another bar with lots of local flavor and great live music is the Westminster Hotel, known as the Pit . Another quirky bar to add to your experience in Dawson City!

cars going onto a small river ferry with room for about six cars across the yukon river in dawson city

Even if you’re not driving Top of the World Highway, I highly recommend a quick ferry ride across the Yukon River on the George Black ferry. This is a really unique experience and if you don’t have a car you can just walk on. The ferry runs 24 hours a day in summer and it’s free.

Explore wrecked boats in the Paddle Wheeler Graveyard

A unique thing to do in dawson city is visit the paddle wheeler graveyard, a collection of crushed old ships damaged by the river. A pile of crumpled wood takes up the photo, an old pilot house partially collapsed can be seen at the top of the pile

The Paddlewheeler Graveyard is one of my absolute favorite things to do in Dawson City because it’s so unique and unusual . For 50 years starting at the time of the Klondike Gold Rush at the turn of the last century, paddlewheelers where the primary way that people and cargo got around in the Yukon. Hundreds of these boats traveled the Yukon River as well as along the Pacific Northwest Coast.

As airplanes and roads replaced them, many were tied up next to the river across from town. Over time the river and especially the breakup of the river in the spring smashed them until they are now warped wreckages of their former glory. You can walk around (be careful!) and explore a very different time in the world of transportation.

To get there, you’ll need to take the George Black ferry across the river (if you are driving Top of the World Highway you can check it out as you arrive or leave since you’ll already be taking the ferry). Once on the west side of the Yukon River (opposite town) go through the campground to the far side and then go a little further either through the brush (make noise and pay attention in case of bears) or beach (if the water level permits) and then you’ll see it!

Visit the Restored Paddle Wheeler SS Keno

A restored paddlewheeler that is now a museum in Dawson city

Before or after you check out the Paddlewheeler graveyard, check out the SS Keno National Historic Site , operated by Parks Canada. From the 1920s until the 1950s, the Keno supplied the mining activity along the Stewart River in the Yukon. When roads replaced the sternwheelers, she was dry docked in Whitehorse and then later restored and brought to Dawson City. Today you can see the Keno on Front Street along Dawson’s waterfront.

Jack London Museum and Author’s Row

A small log cabin leaning slightly surrounded by a small grass yard and a forest.

Along 8th Street on the edge of town, is what is known as “Authors Row”, a collection of cabins inhabited by well known authors of the past. Jack London spent a winter here and you can see what life was like in a cabin in the winter. Spoiler alert – Jack London did not love it.

You can also see the Robert Service cabin and memorize some of his well known poetry about the north.

The Pierre Berton cottage is now a place for Canadian authors in residence who can stay for a time to work on their writing. Pick up one of Pierre Berton’s excellent history books about the Klondike if you’d like to read more about the gold rush!

Try your luck at Diamond Tooth Gertie’s – Canada’s Oldest Casino

The exterior of a historic wooden building. It is painted white with green trim and has a sign saying Diamon Tooth Gerties gambling hall

Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Gambling Hall, Canada’s oldest casino, has casino games as well as Cancan shows and is a fun way to step back in time! Operating since 1971, the building itself was built in 1901 and renovated to take guests back to gold rush days. They also have a full bar with local beer and a long list of Klondike themed cocktails.

Don’t miss the really fun and unique shows at Gertie’s several times each night – and each show is different.

Strike out on your own , you can head to Free Claim #6, near where the original Klondike claim was. Here you can pan for gold to your heart’s content but you’ll need to bring your own gold pan (buy one in downtown Dawson).

Experience the Klondike Gold Rush at Gold Dredge #4 and the Discovery Claim

A gold dredge with trees behind it. The dredge is four stories high and made of wood painted gray. There. is a large bucket line coming out of one end.

If you really want to learn about the Klondike Gold Rush, do not miss driving out Bonanza Creek to the Discovery Claim and Gold Dredge #4.

As you drive about 20 minutes outside of Dawson, you’ll see the impact over a century of gold minging has had on this valley. From the Discovery Claim in 1896, where miners used gold pans to look for specks of gold in Bonanza Creek, to the enormous dredges of the mid 20th century, to today’s mining equipment, you’ll really get a feel for gold fever through time. Gold continues to be a major part of the economy in Dawson City.

The Dredge and Discovery Claim are Parks Canada National Historic Sites. Book a tour in town at the visitor centre before you head out and learn all the ins and outs of gold placer mining.

The Discovery Claim has an interpretive sign about the first gold found here, but what I really love about this spot is how beautiful and reflective it is.

A birch forest with a narrow dirt walking path going through the trees

Paddle or walk the Yukon River

For the adventurous, book a tour to canoe or raft the Yukon or Klondike Rivers for a few days! Experience the Yukon as humans have for centuries. You can start or end in Dawson and design your own adventure or join one already happening.

If that sounds like too much, spend some time walking along the trail along the river. You don’t want to miss spending some time with this epic North American River. The path is gravel, wide and flat though there are stairs in places to get up to it.

Low bushes in front of a river with hills and forest in the background

If you have a car that can go on gravel roads and a bit of extra time, I highly recommend driving Top of the World Highway. Even if you are not planning to drive to Alaska, the views along this highway are stunning and you do indeed feel like you’re on top of the world!

Hike or Drive to the Incredible View at Midnight Dome

A woman smiling and waving in the driver seat of a pickup truck with a camper on it at midnight dome with the Yukon River below and in the background near Dawson City.

Expansive views of Dawson City as well as the surrounding landscape and the mighty Yukon River abound at the summit of Midnight Dome.

To drive to the top of Midnight Dome , follow appropriately named Dome Road out of town. It winds up and takes you straight there in about 15 minutes.

If you prefer to hike it , grab a map at the visitor centre downtown and ask about the different route options. Starting from downtown, you’ll climb about 2000 feet (600 meters) in about 5 miles round trip.

Take a Hike or drive to Tombstone Territorial Park

a shrubby valley with a few trees and a river valley and distant mountains shrouded in fog

An hour and a half from Dawson City, Tombstone Territorial Park is an outdoor lovers paradise. A possible day trip or multi day camping trip from Dawson, start your adventure at the Tombstone Interpretive Centre. The Centre is open late May through September and has wheelchair accessible toilets. There is also a short nature trail here that is wheelchair accessible.

Tombstone is a remote park with no services and no cell phone service, north of Dawson City on the gravel Dempster Highway . Make sure you have food and water and all your supplies for your trip including a good spare tire and tire changing equipment.

The Interpretive Centre has maps and information about camping, backpacking and hiking trails. In addition to rugged and beautiful scenery, Tombstone is an excellent place to see wildlife. Make sure to check on the latest bear activity and any areas that may be closed for wildlife activity. Follow all guidance from park staff and information boards about bear safety while visiting.

Driving from Dawson City to Tombstone Territorial park is stunning by itself, so those who are not hikers can still enjoy the drive and the Interpretive Centre. You’ve come this far, whey not a bit farther to see some of the most stunning scenery in the Yukon!

Depending on the time of year, Dawson City is an ideal place to experience the unique wonders of the Far North. In winter (September through March), keep your yees on the sky to see the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis.

From April through August, enjoy long evenings, no darkness and see. theMidnight Sun from Midnight Dome (a long standing local tradition).

Join in a Local Festival

A quirky thing to do in Dawson City is the annual outhouse race. Here four outhouses decorated and on wheels line up at the start on a gravel street in town

Dawson has a ton of local festivals and events that are worth planning a trip around! Visiting for an event will add to your experience and give you an even more intimate feel for the people of Dawson City. Some of the festivals during the summer months include:

  • Indigenous People’s Day – Hän singing, storytelling and celebration are part of this annual celebration in June
  • Dawson City Music Festival – live music all around town for this weekend in July
  • Discovery Days – a parade, mud bog races and more to celebrate the Klondike gold rush every year in August
  • Klondike International Outhouse Race – form a team of four and decorate your “outhouse” and get your team in costume for a fun run (carrying the outhouse). Even if you’re just watching, it’s hilarious! The “outhouse” can be reserved and it’s basically a metal box on wheels that resembles an outhouse with metal poles for the runners to carry it. Your team provides the decorations!

Where do I start....

Where do I start.... We decided to go to Greece Kos, as We were told it was a great place to go hotel great food is great when they have holes in our family room our door was broke food was disgusting living of chips and pasta on an all inclusive holiday. The chicken they called chicken was brown everyday only good food was breakfast, My son had cut his head and asked to see a first aider and all they came back with was a disinfectant spray and said there you go. The pool area had no lifeguards at all and around the pool was very slippery stones and my 1year old son banged his because of it. The snack places as we were told was lovely different choices and also a pizza place but what we got was no pizza place and only snack what was allowed was that horrible brown jelly chicken and chips nothing else just that. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY

I have recently returned from a very enjoyable cruise

I have recently returned from a very enjoyable cruise booked by Laura, who works at the Washington Galleries Branch of Dawson and Sanderson. Having never been on a cruise before, (and travelling with a small group of friends) we needed a lot of specialist advice on the best possible options available to us. It became immediately clear that Laura was very knowledgeable and passionate about cruises and what would best suit our needs. We were given sound advice on drinks packages, day trips and dining options. We are about to embark on another cruise and will certainly book this through Laura at Dawson and Sanderson. We couldn’t rate the service more highly.

Dreadful website

My experience is with their website. I have tried several times to book a week away and their website is the WORST I’ve ever encountered in my life. Totally unusable so went elsewhere to book.

No help once they’ve got your money

What an absolute shambles! We booked our holiday 10/04/2022 to renew our vows in Jamaica. 9 days ago without being informed we realised booking has been changed taking 4 days off our holiday and cannot get the hotel room for our chosen date. Dawson and Sanderson are doing the bare minimum to try and rectify the issue and are portraying a tough luck attitude - Totally unprofessional and has ruined what should be a special time

Amazing service by Tracey today!

Amazing service by Tracey today! I've had sleepless nights due to all these changes with our holiday(s) (Green going to amber etc) and spent days and days into what to do next.. Went into branch today and spoke to Tracey for 10 minutes she put me at ease and explained the best actions to take and sorted our holiday out in minutes! Massive value to the company! couldn't recommend visiting the branch enough! Way better than dealing directly with the likes of jet2 and tui as the added service is great! (Plus the price match!)

Amazing and helpful service!

Sophie our travel agent was amazing! We had previously booked a holiday with another company and were messed around. Sophie was so helpful and found us an amazing deal. We won’t be booking anywhere else now!

Excellent Redcar branch

Can’t express our gratitude enough at the time spent on hold and the dozens of phone calls with Titan trying to sort out our planned tour to Kenya. They did everything they could to sort out the chaos with the travel company but to no avail. Eventually with only 6 days to travel the whole thing had to be cancelled. With their help we managed to get another holiday in place for the same time. Excellent team at the Redcar branch

Partners death, no compassion

My partner died suddenly in December (cancer related). She had booked a holiday to take her 2 grand kids to New York in March. They told me they couldnt do a name change but that I would have to cancel her ticket only (not the full booking), get the £500 refund and then rebook at over £1000.I am still coming to terms with her death and then to be hit with this. They are an absolute disgrace. Its all about money

Disappointing service provided

Newcastle branch. Dreadful customer service. Long wait for replies by email. Only one staff member was able to complete the booking, colleagues were unable to help in her absence, which seems ludicrous. No travel advice given about covid regulations. No advice about insurance. No questions asked, nothing personal or helpful which surprised me completely. Brusque attitudes of staff members. On top of all that it cost a lot more than booking with a Tour operator direct. They were unable to price match an Internet price so there is no benefit to using an agent and I certainly won't be doing so in the future, particularly following my experience with Dawson & Sanderson. Very disappointed and out of pocket. Such a shame that this simple booking was handled so badly as I will no longer be confident to use them for my future, worldwide, tailor made trips.

We where arranging our honeymoon I wanted all whistles and bells as you only do it once, hubby (to be) not bothered as long as I was happy. The rep started showing us Maldives barbados exotic places like that but hubby said no to long a flight, Not only that the rep added its what we call a drop and flop and (honest creates trust), The rep showed us something closer to home where we could go out the complex to do trips it had swim up, all inclusive, beautiful restaurants and water we asked is there a swim up bar? yes we where told you can also swim right round the complex i have been..... wow OK so we booked it It cost a FORTUNE but we where so excited as its our honeymoon. We went in to pay our final instalment, well over a £1000 and the rep took it from us like it was a receipt no enthusiasm and no interest its a lot of money at least try... Once we got there by private transfer it looked fab it was fab it was amazing but, no swim up bar and you couldn't swim round the complex at all, the pools were all separated by bridges you couldn't swim under, felt as though the rep had never been there! A bit gutted as we had to keep getting out the pool ((changed) (just me as i didnt want people looking)) round to the bar when we wanted a drink has anyone ever tried to put a wet costume on .... The venue was beautiful just what you want for your honeymoon, as did the rest of the world every woman I spoke to was a bride last year, 2 years ago 40th wedding anniversary, weddings, I wanted to feel special as we where going 2 days after our wedding it was OUR honeymoon I felt like it was everybody else's, the staff hear it so much and I actually felt silly telling people we got married Saturday because ..... well obviously or you wouldn't be here. I felt if the rep had been they would of known. Never the less the venue was beautiful once we where back in the UK I said nothing will ever beat the beauty and style of that place, hubby set on it like a mission and in half hour shattered my dreams ...🤣🤣 We found soooo many holidays similar for ½ ⅔ the price in the same region!! felt as though because I said I wanted this to be special all whistles and bells I wasn't worried about cost it needed to be perfect, they took us for a ride over paying by Thousands

I bought a holiday and on the first day…

I bought a holiday and on the first day I had a problem with this office, I paid with a credit card on the spot with Josh and it turned out that he made a mistake, he made the transaction paid in cash by my credit card and on my credit card my bank began to charge me interest that was not fully returned to me, so I never want to deal with this office again, it is not professionally oriented towards clients, especially Josh who makes mistakes very often

Traveling in the time of COVID is always a hassle but was considerably eased by this clinic. As an American, the USA requires me to have a negative COVID PCR test before re-entering the country. The Irish government has a website that lists test sites -- this one by far was the most convenient from my hotel in Dublin. I was able to book an appointment easily online, find the clinic quickly, get a test done very quickly and efficiently, and I had the results about 12 hours later. Absolutely no complaints and I'm grateful that they made a complicated process much easier.

Dr. Simon Collins and his staff were excellent in the care of my daughter. We needed an unexpected Covid test to return home to the U.S. Most places in Dublin did not perform Covid tests on children under the age of 8 years old and that's exactly what we needed since my daughter is only 6. The clinic took care of us same day with no issues. The clinic was within walking distance from our hotel which made things so much less stressful for us. Dr. Collins was absolutely lovely with my daughter with her first Covid test. Wonderful and easy experience with speedy test results. Everything prior was done over email and was quick and easy as well. Highly recommend!!

They were recommended by our tour co. Scheduling appt and actual day of test for my daughter and I very easy , efficient and smooth. Front office and MD friendly, very professional. Made an activity that could have been major hassle, minor. Thank you!

Dr. Simon Collins was amazing! He was very nice and professional! He communicated well and provided my Covid test results within 15 min. Highly recommend you all seeing him if Covid testing is required and/or any medical needs when traveling to Dublin! Thank you Dr. Collins!!

Lollipop in mouth, dead left arm - this is review writing to it's extreme folks! But it must be done, because people NEED to know about this place! All in all, the vaccines I received today in the Travel Health Clinic cost €150 less than they would have at the Tropical Medical Bureau. With such a huge difference in pricing, one would possibly expect a Ryan Air type experience. In, out, no frills, maybe a headache and some highly questionable customer service along the way... Not so with the Travel Health Clinic. Located right in the city centre in Dawson St, up three floors of Georgian stairs (consider this if you have any issues with mobility), into the TH Clinic. There awaits you a super-friendly receptionist, a small form to fill out, and loooads of giant maps (who doesn't love giant maps, cmon!) and travel books / mags. All going well so far. Enter the doc. Friendly, casual, easy to talk to, and above all, extremely knowledgeable. She sat us down, went through any vaccine history and was very patient with us when memory lapsed... (who does actually remember what jabs they had nine years ago?!) We were taken through recommended vaccines, extras to consider, malaria areas, extra medicine / first aid items to bring, general travel recommendations, areas to avoid, and lots, lots more detail. The whole consultation took a full hour which should demonstrate the level of detail covered. In discussing malaria tablets, we were given prices as well as potential side-effects etc. The pricing is really important to know as these tablets are craaazy expensive. If you want to go back after your initial consultation for extra jabs, or more services, they won't charge a consultation fee. If you are going off to foreign lands, definitely make a stop off here first.

I did my research on travel vaccines before I booked an appointment and I discovered there are other (cheaper) options besides Tropical Medical Bureau which people mostly commonly mention. Some might say "oh but would you take the risk in a cheaper place" and these are probably the same people who would buy a brand name antihistamine rather than a generic one with the lower price tag and the exact same active ingredient... After I caught a nasty food poisoning bug in Morocco last year I was determined that my fiance and I would not suffer any medical mishaps on our South Asian honeymoon. Dr Collins was fantastic and talked us through all of our options for our destinations and the possible risks associated with each. He is extremely knowledgeable and he didn't put pressure on us to get any of the vaccines, he presented us with the information and allowed us to decide what we wanted. We went with the "basics" and he told us to go away and think about some extra ones which are slightly more expensive but which might be worth it in the long run. He also provided us with plenty of advice on how to keep safe (no ice in your drinks!) and a prescription for all sorts of other pills and potions to keep us safe abroad. I checked up prices afterwards and we had saved 50 euro on the exact same vaccines at TMB. Also It's worth checking with your medical insurance provider if you get anything back on travel vaccines. (Quinn CompanyCarePlus allow for 60 euro a year). As for the vaccines themselves, well no one enjoys getting a needle in the arm, but they were fine and I even got a lollipop! Yes I'm 26, so what!?

Fantastic service. Everything explained clearly, methodically and economically. Really cannot emphasise how put at ease I was by my visit here. Vaccines are expensive and confusing, this place helped me out a lot. There's definitely an advantage to seeing a specialist in this area over your GP, who mightn't necessarily be 100% up to date on the status of Cambodian mud flies*. The lollipops are fairly epic also. He said I deserved one because I was very brave. *may not exist.

The Travel Health Clinic in Dublin City Centre offers general consultation for medical aspects of travelling, as well as all kinds of vaccinations required for going abroad. The staff are very friendly, a short-term consultation was no problem at all. Dr. Simon Collins then really examines all your needs for your trip and consults in a very understandable and friendly way. He's even giving further consultation via email if needed. Plus, their website sheds further light on what to expect and gives a clear and transparent outlook on prices for consultations and vaccination shots. To sum up: A very good and reliable experience that I can only recommend.

I went in to the Travel Health Clinic expecting minimal care, just vaccines and out the door. But what I got was the best service I've had from a medical professional in I don't know how long. I got a whole run down of all the vaccines I could get, but with my budget in mind we went through the most important and relevant ones for me, meaning I wasn't being recommended anything I didn't really need, even though the clinic would have made more money. I received such comprehensive advice for my travels on everything from what foods to avoid and what regions are the most mosquito infested. Even the vaccines themselves were painless, my friends who had been to other clinics said they can be sore but I did not feel a thing. The doctor responded to his by saying that there is a knack and if doctors cared enough it would not hurt. Would HIGHLY recommend this place.

I was incredibly anxious and the staff were wonderful. Made the process as straightforward and unthreatening as possible. Thanks
