For reference:  the Rules for issuing invitations, approving invitations for entry of foreigners and stateless persons to the Republic of Kazakhstan, issuing, cancelling, restoring visas to the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as extending and reduction their validity terms, approved by the Joint Order of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 11-1-2/555 dated November 24, 2016 and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 1100 dated November 28, 2016.

Tourist electronic visas are issued to citizens of  105  states, business and medical treatment visas -  18  states (the list is attached).

Kazakhstan visa policy.

Kazakhstan has a current visa policy that classes visitors based on their nationality. While most visitors need visas before they can enter the country, some other nationalities can get in without visas or with online visas. The country has a visa-free list of countries which it regularly updates. People from these countries can stay in Kazakhstan without visas for up to 90 days within 180 day period. If you are from any of the countries below, you qualify for visa-free entry

Residents of the Balkan region in Turkmenistan have visa-free access to Mangystau and Atyrau province for up to 5 days per visit but they must hold valid passports or ID cards.

Kazakhstan Business Visa Free Program

The visa-free program of Kazakhstan is different from the special visa exemptions for citizens of the selected countries . This program has fewer days, only 30 days per visit, and it is largely a business visa to attract foreign direct investment into the country. The program was launched in 2014 and offers unilateral visa access to citizens from eligible countries. Eligible business visitors must have signed letters of invitation issued to them by their host in  Kazakhstan. They will also be required to provide proof of funds and a bank statement of account will suffice. Representatives of foreign companies and organizations must travel with letters issued by their employers or principals containing details of their trip and itinerary details like their arrival and departure dates and places of interests they will visit.

Transit Visa Free Program For Indian and Chinese Travelers

Travelers with Chinese and Indian passports traveling to Kazakhstan do not need transit visas if they stay in the country for 72 hours or less and are traveling through Almaty International Airport or Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport. They must hold a valid air ticket and travel with any Kazakhstan-owned airline. They will also be required to hold valid passports or resident permits for the country they are traveling to.

Kazakhstan e Visa

In 2019 the Kazakh government unveiled a new visa program called the electronic visa. This online visa is issued to foreign nationals who have an invitation letter issued to them by the Migration Service. Such persons can get a single-entry e-visa issued to them for business, tourism, and medical purposes. The only approved routes for e-visa holders are Almaty and Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airports.

This program was launched to expedite the visa process for eligible visitors, and it is valid for only 30 days, after which the visitor must leave the country. E-visa applications are done online and take only a few minutes to complete the application. Apart from inputting your personal details, security questions must be answered before submitting the form. Successful applicants will receive the e-visa at their email addresses.

Key points About The Kazakhstan e Visa

Interested applicants for e-visas to Kazakhstan should bear the following in mind as they prepare to submit their applications. These details will also come in  handy during your stay in the country.

Not For Residency/Work/Study: Electronic visas are short-term stays and not for work, study, or residency. The maximum number of days you can stay in Kazakhstan is 30 days and not a day more, unlike other long-stay visas that allow visits of up to one year and more. If you wish to work, study or reside in Kazakhstan, you should visit a foreign mission office abroad to apply for a long-term visa.

Print it Out:  Once the e-visa is approved and forwarded to your inbox, you should print it out and travel with a copy. The immigration officers will request a copy as evidence. Also, always carry the copy along with you when you are outdoors in case you encounter law enforcement officers.

Don’t Overstay:  Make sure you don’t stay in the country for more than the days allowed. Overstaying will lead to sanctions.

Use The Same Passport:  Please use the same passport for your trip like you used for your application. E visas are linked to the applicant’s passport, so if you use a different passport, it is assumed that you don’t have a visa.

Use Approved Routes: When traveling to Kazakhstan on an e visa, make sure you only use approved routes. These airport routes are listed on each visa option.

Extension Application: If you choose to apply for an extension of your visa do so before your current one expires. It is illegal to stay in Kazakhstan on an expired visa. Staying a day more is a violation that will attract sanctions from the authorities like fines for each day spent in violation or an outright ban from re entry.

Fee is Non Refundable: The application fees for e visas are not refundable. Also bear in mind that paying this fee is not a guarantee that the e visa will be issued to you. E visa applications are paid with credit or debit cards. Only eligible and qualified persons with the right documents will get it.

Planning the perfect city break to Almaty, Kazakhstan in 5 minutes

Almaty in Kazakhstan is a truly unique city – a bustling urban metropolis surrounded by the most gorgeous mountains on all sides. It’s intense scenic beauty, coupled with the fact that Kazakhstan offers visa-free entry to Indians, makes it ideal for the perfect city break. Here is everything you need to know for planning a trip to Almaty. With a backdrop of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains, Almaty offers a diverse array of activities for all kinds of travellers – whether you are seeking adventure, cultural exploration, or relaxation.

Flying to Almaty, Kazakhstan

Air Astana (and its budget arm FlyArystan) link Almaty to most major cities in the world. Direct return flights from New Delhi to Almaty start at approximately INR 20,000 per person. It takes 3 hours to fly from New Delhi to Almaty, making it ideal for a short break. Immigration is seamless upon arrival. We carried print outs of our flight and hotel bookings but we were only asked for our boarding passes by the immigration officer. However we would still recommend having these on you, should the need arise. You can compare fares and book here .

Things to keep in mind upon arriving in Almaty – Visa, Currency, Transport

Kazakhstan is visa free for Indian travellers (December 2023) but it’s always best to check the latest visa requirements before your travels as these rules keep changing.

The local currency is KZT (Kazakhstani Tenge) – 1 INR = 5.4 KZT and 1 USD = 450 KZT ( December 23). Cards are accepted widely but we always recommend carrying small currency notes to begin with. You can withdraw some local currency at the airport.

Make sure you download the Yandex Go App on your phone. Uber doesn’t work in Kazakhstan. However local cabs are extremely cheap and plentiful. Use it to request taxis, no matter where you are, even at the airport.

Also make sure you download Google Translate or any other translation app of your choice as English is not very widely spoken or understood.

Upon reaching Almaty, we recommend buying a SIM card from the airport so your apps work seamlessly. There are 2 options at the airport – Beeline and Tele2. You can choose either. One sim with 10 GB data costs INR 900 ($11). Best to pick this up from the airport itself so you can easily order Yandex taxi for your transfer to your hotel.

Best time to visit Almaty, Kazakhstan

There is no bad time to visit Almaty – it is a gorgeous city. However the two best periods to visit are during peak summer (August-September) as the lakes are absolutely blue in colour during that time of the year and then during winter months (December-January) in case you want to enjoy snowfall and winter sports. 4 days are sufficient for Almaty and its surroundings.  Do beware that this is one of the coldest cities in the world, so make sure you pack well for your winter trip to Almaty. You can read our guide to packing for extreme winter here.

Where to stay in Almaty

It is easy to base yourself in Almaty and plan day trips to several scenic places in Kazakhstan. For this reason we ended up staying in Almaty during our entire time in Kazakhstan. We chose to stay at the Ritz Carlton in Almaty and truly cannot recommend it highly enough. To be honest, we chose the hotel because it offers incredible views of the city of Almaty. But upon getting there and staying there for the better part of a week, we realised it is truly the best hotel in the city.

Staff is friendly. Rooms are spacious and tech-savvy. But even so, they are packed with the old world charm Ritz is famous for! Everything from the tea cups and toiletries to the wardrobes and bathrobes is carefully curated. We chose a mountain view room and we would highly-recommend you do the same! Look at the view we woke up to each day. We miss it dearly 🙂

Another thing that the hotel is famous for is its breakfast buffet! And we can safely say it lives up to the hype! The spread is high-quality and expansive. You will find everything from continental staples to Kazakh sweets and breakfast dishes. But the best part is that you can devour these delicacies with a view to match. There are plenty of hotels depending on different budgets and locations.

The resulting lake submerged a spruce forest, leaving ghostly tree trunks rising from the turquoise waters. Visitors can explore the lake’s shores, go hiking in the surrounding mountains, or take a boat ride to fully appreciate the surreal beauty of this unique destination. You can combine it with a visit to Kolsai Lake and Charyn Canyon if you don’t mind a packed trip!

Kazakhstan Travel Visa Rules Guides For Indian Passport Holders Travel Tips Currency Logistics Weather Places To Visit A Global Affair | Exploring Kazakhstan - Tourist Visa To Travel Logistics: All You Need To Know

Dreaming of travelling through European roads but finding it beyond your budget? Here we've got you covered. Kazakhstan is the new trending destination for Indian travellers offering a perfect alternative to those seeking a blend of American, European, and Russian architecture coupled with rich cultural experiences.

Despite being relatively less explored, Kazakhstan presents offbeat travellers with a range of hidden gems including natural wonders, diverse cuisine, historical cities, and archaeological marvels. It is the largest landlocked country in the world stretching from the Caspian Sea in the West to the Altai Mountains in the East. The country shares borders with Russia and China and is the 9th biggest in the world, thereby offering a lot to travellers.

Entry Requirements & Visa Procedures:

Before you plan for a trip to Kazakhstan, here we are to guide you with all the required details, including visa requirements. Your explorer spirit must be happy to know that the 'Land of Nomads' (Kazakh meaning in Turkish) offers Visa-Free travel for Indian Citizens for up to 14 days, with a maximum duration of the visitor’s visa-free stays being 42 days within every 180 days. However, if you want to stay in Kazakhstan for more than 14 days at a time, you must apply for a Kazakhstan visa. However, the visa process can differ according to your purpose of visit.

Kazakhstan offers multiple visa categories as mentioned below, each with its own set of requirements and procedures.

  • Tourist Visa
  • Business Visa
  • Transit Visa
  • Student Visa
  • Permanent Resident Visa

The tourist visa permits single or multiple entries for up to 90 days, while business visas cater to professionals engaging in business activities. Work visas enable employment, and transit visas facilitate short stays during transit.

Tourist Visa Process:

If you are a Indian passport holder, you can enter the region for a stay of 14 days without any visa. The Kazakhstan government permits 3 trips within 180 days with a maximum stay of 14 days per trip. In addition, during your visa-free stay in Kazakhstan, you cannot work in the nation.

Required Documents:

  • Copy of passport (only the page with holder's information).
  • Visa application form, filled and signed.
  • One photograph (size 3.5 x 4.5 cm).
  • One of the following documents:
  • Letter of invitation approved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan;
  • Return Ticket
  • Cover letter from the applicant with a request to issue a single-entry visa (only for citizens of countries who are exempted from providing a letter of invitation).

Points to be noted:

  • Documents should be submitted only in person.
  • Visa processing time - 5 working days.
  • The validity of the passport should not be less than 3 months from the date of expiry of the visa.
  • The passport must have at least 2 blank pages.

To obtain a visa for an underaged child:

Parents must submit an application form and a cover letter, signed by both parents, as well as a birth certificate of the child and documents confirming the identity of the parents (passport, etc.).

If one of the parents submits a visa application, then a notarized consent letter from the second parent must be submitted.

If a child is under the full custody of one parent, a supporting document must be provided.

Travel Logistics:

The best time to travel if you want to experience autumn is from April to June, and September to November for the snow-capped views.

Flights from Delhi to Kazakhstan usually take around 3.5 hours, with costs 16,000 to 18,000 INR for a round trip with luggage. Upon arrival, you must exchange your currency in Kazakhstani Tenge (as of now 1 Kazakhstani Tenge equals 0.19 INR ) or USD, which is easily available at the airport and in big cities.

For transportation, buses and trains will be your best and cheapest options, as Kazakhstan is a big country, although it also has cab and taxi services which can cost you comparatively more. You can use the Yandex GO mobile app which works similar to Ola and Uber in India, offering affordable options for moving around.

For accommodation, you can opt for hostels or find multiple luxury hotels, if you are looking for one. Do not forget to carry your ready-to-cook food items if you are a vegetarian as there will be fewer options.

Unlocking Kazakhstan's Treasures:

When visiting Kazakhstan, exploring its diverse array of natural wonders and cultural landmarks is an absolute must.

One such destination is the Big Almaty Lake, renowned for its stunning beauty, especially during the autumn season. Embarking on the scenic 20-kilometre hike around the lake offers wonderful landscapes, although you can also choose to go by cab and taxi.

Additionally, don't miss out on the breathtaking Kaindy Lake hike, which takes approximately 45 minutes with the option of cab or horse rides for added convenience. Pair this with a hike to Kolsai lakes and Charyn Canyon for Kazakhstan's natural marvels.

Do not forget to delve into the rich cultural tapestry of Kazakhstan by exploring locations like Shymbulak ski resort, and Koktobe for a mesmerizing sunset.

Apart from these, you can also pay a visit to Altyn Emel National Park, Lake Issyk, Medeu, Bayterek Tower, Hazrat Sultan Mosque, Alma Arasan Hot Spring, and the Assumption Russian Orthodox Cathedral.

For art and culture enthusiasts, a visit to the National Museum of Kazakhstan in Astana promises an enriching experience, encapsulating the country's vibrant heritage. ALSO READ | A Global Affair | Travel Mexico: Types Of Visas, Document Checklist & Whole Procedure. Deets Inside

It's crucial to be prepared for Kazakhstan's continental climate, which ranges from scorching summers to freezing winters. The temperature can go up to 40°C in summers to freezing -20°C in winters.

Language can be a bit tricky here as the official languages of Kazakhstan are Kazakh and Russian. English is not commonly used, particularly beyond major cities. So, knowing some basic Kazakh or Russian phrases can be very useful.

Y ou can greet people with 'Salem' in Kazakh or 'zdravstvuyte' in Russian; express gratitude with 'rahmet' in Kazakh or 'spasibo' in Russian; and say farewell with 'Saw bolıñız' in Kazakh or 'do svidaniya' in Russian.

Travelling to Kazakhstan can be your lifetime experience with the place brimming with amazing natural wonders and ancient historical cities. So, pack your bags and get ready to embark on an exciting new adventure.

Visa Bulletin For January 2024

Number 85 Volume X Washington, D.C

View as Printer Friendly PDF

A. STATUTORY NUMBERS FOR PREFERENCE IMMIGRANT VISAS

This bulletin summarizes the availability of immigrant numbers during January  for: “Final Action Dates” and “Dates for Filing Applications,” indicating when immigrant visa applicants should be notified to assemble and submit required documentation to the National Visa Center.

Unless otherwise indicated on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website at  www.uscis.gov/visabulletininfo , individuals seeking to file applications for adjustment of status with USCIS must use the “Final Action Dates” charts below for determining when they can file such applications. When USCIS determines that there are more immigrant visas available for the fiscal year than there are known applicants for such visas, USCIS will state on its website that applicants may instead use the “Dates for Filing Visa Applications” charts in this Bulletin.

1.  Procedures for determining dates. Consular officers are required to report to the Department of State documentarily qualified applicants for numerically limited visas; USCIS reports applicants for adjustment of status. Allocations in the charts below were made, to the extent possible, in chronological order of reported priority dates, for demand received by December 4th . If not all demand could be satisfied, the category or foreign state in which demand was excessive was deemed oversubscribed. The final action date for an oversubscribed category is the priority date of the first applicant who could not be reached within the numerical limits. If it becomes necessary during the monthly allocation process to retrogress a final action date, supplemental requests for numbers will be honored only if the priority date falls within the new final action date announced in this bulletin. If at any time an annual limit were reached, it would be necessary to immediately make the preference category “unavailable”, and no further requests for numbers would be honored.

2.  The fiscal year 2024 limit for family-sponsored preference immigrants determined in accordance with Section 201 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) is 226,000.  The worldwide level for annual employment-based preference immigrants is at least 140,000.  Section 202 prescribes that the per-country limit for preference immigrants is set at 7% of the total annual family-sponsored and employment-based preference limits, i.e., 25,620.  The dependent area limit is set at 2%, or 7,320.

3.  INA Section 203(e) provides that family-sponsored and employment-based preference visas be issued to eligible immigrants in the order in which a petition in behalf of each has been filed. Section 203(d) provides that spouses and children of preference immigrants are entitled to the same status, and the same order of consideration, if accompanying or following to join the principal. The visa prorating provisions of Section 202(e) apply to allocations for a foreign state or dependent area when visa issuances will exceed the per-country limit. These provisions apply at present to the following oversubscribed chargeability areas:  CHINA-mainland born, INDIA, MEXICO, and PHILIPPINES.

4.  Section 203(a) of the INA prescribes preference classes for allotment of Family-sponsored immigrant visas as follows:

FAMILY-SPONSORED PREFERENCES

First : ( F1 ) Unmarried Sons and Daughters of U.S. Citizens:  23,400 plus any numbers not required for fourth preference.

Second : Spouses and Children, and Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Permanent Residents:  114,200, plus the number (if any) by which the worldwide family preference level exceeds 226,000, plus any unused first preference numbers:

A. ( F2A ) Spouses and Children of Permanent Residents:  77% of the overall second preference limitation, of which 75% are exempt from the per-country limit;

B. ( F2B ) Unmarried Sons and Daughters (21 years of age or older) of Permanent Residents:  23% of the overall second preference limitation.

Third : ( F3 ) Married Sons and Daughters of U.S. Citizens:  23,400, plus any numbers not required by first and second preferences.

Fourth : ( F4 ) Brothers and Sisters of Adult U.S. Citizens:  65,000, plus any numbers not required by first three preferences.

A.   FINAL ACTION DATES FOR FAMILY-SPONSORED PREFERENCE CASES

On the chart below, the listing of a date for any class indicates that the class is oversubscribed (see paragraph 1); "C" means current, i.e., numbers are authorized for issuance to all qualified applicants; and "U" means unauthorized, i.e., numbers are not authorized for issuance. (NOTE: Numbers are authorized for issuance only for applicants whose priority date is earlier than the final action date listed below.)

For January, F2A numbers  EXEMPT from per-country limit  are authorized for issuance to applicants from all countries with priority dates  earlier  than 22OCT19. F2A numbers  SUBJECT to per-country limit  are authorized for issuance to applicants chargeable to all countries EXCEPT MEXICO , with priority dates beginning 22OCT19 and earlier than 01NOV19. All F2A numbers provided for MEXICO are exempt from the per-country limit.

B.  DATES FOR FILING FAMILY-SPONSORED VISA APPLICATIONS

The chart below reflects dates for filing visa applications within a timeframe justifying immediate action in the application process. Applicants for immigrant visas who have a priority date earlier than the application date in the chart below may assemble and submit required documents to the Department of State’s National Visa Center, following receipt of notification from the National Visa Center containing detailed instructions. The application date for an oversubscribed category is the priority date of the first applicant who cannot submit documentation to the National Visa Center for an immigrant visa. If a category is designated “current,” all applicants in the relevant category may file applications, regardless of priority date.

The “C” listing indicates that the category is current, and that applications may be filed regardless of the applicant’s priority date. The listing of a date for any category indicates that only applicants with a priority date which is earlier than the listed date may file their application.

Visit www.uscis.gov/visabulletininfo for information on whether USCIS has determined that this chart can be used (in lieu of the chart in paragraph 4.A.) this month for filing applications for adjustment of status with USCIS.

5.  Section 203(b) of the INA prescribes preference classes for allotment of Employment-based immigrant visas as follows:

EMPLOYMENT-BASED PREFERENCES

First :  Priority Workers:  28.6% of the worldwide employment-based preference level, plus any numbers not required for fourth and fifth preferences.

Second :  Members of the Professions Holding Advanced Degrees or Persons of Exceptional Ability:  28.6% of the worldwide employment-based preference level, plus any numbers not required by first preference.

Third :  Skilled Workers, Professionals, and Other Workers:  28.6% of the worldwide level, plus any numbers not required by first and second preferences, not more than 10,000 of which to "*Other Workers".

Fourth :  Certain Special Immigrants:  7.1% of the worldwide level.

Fifth :  Employment Creation:  7.1% of the worldwide level, of which 32% are reserved as follows: 20% reserved for qualified immigrants who invest in a rural area; 10% reserved for qualified immigrants who invest in a high unemployment area; and 2% reserved for qualified immigrants who invest in infrastructure projects. The remaining 68% are unreserved and are allotted for all other qualified immigrants.

A.  FINAL ACTION DATES FOR EMPLOYMENT-BASED PREFERENCE CASES

*Employment Third Preference Other Workers Category: Section 203(e) of the Nicaraguan and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) passed by Congress in November 1997, as amended by Section 1(e) of Pub. L. 105-139, provides that once the Employment Third Preference Other Worker (EW) cut-off date has reached the priority date of the latest EW petition approved prior to November 19, 1997, the 10,000 EW numbers available for a fiscal year are to be reduced by up to 5,000 annually beginning in the following fiscal year. This reduction is to be made for as long as necessary to offset adjustments under the NACARA program. Since the EW final action date reached November 19, 1997 during Fiscal Year 2001, the reduction in the EW annual limit to 5,000 began in Fiscal Year 2002. For Fiscal Year 2024 this reduction will be limited to approximately 150.

B.  DATES FOR FILING OF EMPLOYMENT-BASED VISA APPLICATIONS

The chart below reflects dates for filing visa applications within a timeframe justifying immediate action in the application process. Applicants for immigrant visas who have a priority date earlier than the application date in the chart may assemble and submit required documents to the Department of State’s National Visa Center, following receipt of notification from the National Visa Center containing detailed instructions. The application date for an oversubscribed category is the priority date of the first applicant who cannot submit documentation to the National Visa Center for an immigrant visa. If a category is designated “current,” all applicants in the relevant category may file, regardless of priority date.

Visit www.uscis.gov/visabulletininfo for information on whether USCIS has determined that this chart can be used (in lieu of the chart in paragraph 5.A.) this month for filing applications for adjustment of status with USCIS.

B .   DIVERSITY IMMIGRANT (DV) CATEGORY FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY

Section 203(c) of the INA provides up to 55,000 immigrant visas each fiscal year to permit additional immigration opportunities for persons from countries with low admissions during the previous five years.  The NACARA stipulates that beginning with DV-99, and for as long as necessary, up to 5,000 of the 55,000 annually allocated diversity visas will be made available for use under the NACARA program.  This will result in reduction of the DV-2024 annual limit to approximately 54,850.  DV visas are divided among six geographic regions. No one country can receive more than seven percent of the available diversity visas in any one year.

For January , immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2024 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. When an allocation cut-off number is shown, visas are available only for applicants with DV regional lottery rank numbers  BELOW  the specified allocation cut-off number:

Entitlement to immigrant status in the DV category lasts only through the end of the fiscal (visa) year for which the applicant is selected in the lottery. The year of entitlement for all applicants registered for the DV-2024 program ends as of September 30, 2024. DV visas may not be issued to DV-2024 applicants after that date. Similarly, spouses and children accompanying or following to join DV-2024 principals are only entitled to derivative DV status until September 30, 2024. DV visa availability through the very end of FY-2024 cannot be taken for granted. Numbers could be exhausted prior to September 30.

C.   THE DIVERSITY (DV) IMMIGRANT CATEGORY RANK CUT-OFFS WHICH WILL APPLY IN FEBRUARY

For February , immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2024 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. When an allocation cut-off number is shown, visas are available only for applicants with DV regional lottery rank numbers  BELOW  the specified allocation cut-off number:

D.   EMPLOYMENT FOURTH PREFERENCE (SR) RELIGIOUS WORKERS CATEGORY EXTENDED

H.R. 6363, signed on November 16, 2023, extended the Employment Fourth Preference Certain Religious Workers (SR) category until February 2, 2024.  No SR visas may be issued overseas, or final action taken on adjustment of status cases, after midnight February 1, 2024.  Visas issued prior to that date will be valid only until February 1, 2024, and all individuals seeking admission in the non-minister special immigrant category must be admitted (repeat admitted) into the United States no later than midnight February 1, 2024.

The SR category is subject to the same final action dates as the other Employment Fourth Preference categories per applicable foreign state of chargeability.
