Sharleen Spiteri 's band celebrated that milestone in the summer with the release of The Very Best of 1989–2023 , which was packed with hits from across their career plus two new songs 'After All' and 'Keep on Talking'.

Next year the group take their massive decades-spanning hits on tour, and have now announced a UK leg of their global jaunt.

Tickets go on general sale this Friday, September 22 at 10am. A pre-sale starts on Wednesday, September 20 at 10am.

The last studio album from Texas was 2021's Hi , which featured collaborations with Clare Grogan, Richard Hawley, and the Wu-Tang Clan.

The group played a career-spanning set at the 2023 Glastonbury Festival, appearing on the Pyramid Stage on Friday afternoon.

Around a decade ago when the band were celebrating their 25th anniversary, Sharleen told Smooth Radio : "We're very conscious that Texas was our dream – it was the one thing that we all wanted to do.

Texas - Say What You Want (Official Video)

"It was the thing that would allow us to have the lifestyle that we have whilst doing something that we absolutely love and adore, so we’re very protective of it. We just won't compromise on it, we just won't do it.

"Sometimes that gets you a bit of a reputation for being a pain in the backside but I don't really care about that.

"I'd rather be known as a pain in the backside than somebody who is willing to sell themselves short."

Recent tour reviews

This was the first time I got to see Texas, what a memorable gig! I enjoyed it from start to finish. The lead singer was very funny and really interacted with the crowd. This was probably the best gig I have been to that involved the crowd as much as they did. There was a big Scottish following. The music was excellent and you can tell that the band enjoyed performing.

Great night, hugely enjoyed the show all the hits and more, Sharleen definately knows how to work a crowd, only drawback was she asked the crowd to stand for the complete show, but as we are of a certain age we had to sit down after a while and then we couldn't see the show any more, shame otherwise very, very good.

Excellent performance in front of a packed Usher Hall.

Not having seen Texas for a few years, we loved Sharleen's chat between the music, very funny and as always very accommodating for the fans coming to the front for selfies and a chat!

Great mix of tracks from their entire back catalogue including the latest album.

A terrific evening's entertainment.

British Delegation Set to Depart for Great British Tour of Texas Promoting UK

  • SFA Press Release

texas uk tour 2022

August 26, 2022 - They say everything is bigger in Texas, and Her Majesty’s Consul General Richard Hyde will discover that to be true as he embarks on a road trip around the State beginning on Tuesday 6 September 2022 .

Hyde and senior staff from the British Consulate located in Houston, will not be hard to spot in a Union Jack draped Jaguar as they travel to north and east Texas, with bonus side trips into Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico. The route will cover approximately 2,500 miles – nearly 3 times the length of the United Kingdom. This trip follows last year’s 2,500 mile road trip to central and west Texas, with a return drive along the length of the Texas-Mexico border.

Coming in the year of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the team will be honouring Queen Elizabeth’s 75th year on the throne by participating in the Queen’s Green Canopy, a global sustainability initiative to plant trees. Consul General Hyde will be planting a tree in each location visited, including one in each of the five states on the itinerary.

Along with the tree planting ceremonies, the team will also host town hall style ‘pop-up consulates’ to meet with local businesses, civic and political leaders and other interested groups. The meetings will highlight the close economic links that the UK has with the state of Texas (as well as celebrating some Great British food and drink!).

The British delegation will be promoting investment opportunities between Texas and the UK, with exports from Texas to the UK amounting to over $10 billion in 2018, with a combination of events helping to support a range of UK interests across business, trade, defence, education and other sectors.

180 years after the UK Government first appointed a representative to Texas, this tour is also a chance to mark the UK’s continuing commitment to enduring relationships, mutual prosperity and extensive security cooperation with long-standing and close allies.

Consul General Richard Hyde said: “The aim of this tour is to focus on cities outside the ‘Texas Triangle’ (Houston, Dallas, Austin/San Antonio). This will enable us to engage with a wide range of politically influential and economically important communities and groups. Whilst honouring Her Majesty’s 75th year on the throne and enhancing the environment with tree plantings, we also hope to demonstrate that the UK is a modern and dynamic partner of Texas, a leading centre of culture, music and sport and a world class centre of innovation and science.”

List of locations for the Great British Tour of Texas (w/ bonus trips into AR, LA, OK and NM) Below is the list of locations where the British Consulate will visit. The tree plantings and pop-up consulates will be casual, indoor receptions featuring British food and drink.

  • Tuesday, September 6 - Nacogdoches, Meetings and tree planting
  • Tuesday, September 6 - Kilgore, Tree planting and pop-up consulate
  • Wednesday, September 7 - Shreveport, LA, Tree planting and pop-up consulate
  • Wednesday, September 7 - Texarkana, AR, Meetings, tree planting, and pop-up consulate
  • Friday, September 9 - Amarillo, Tree planting and pop-up consulate

CONCERT REVIEW : TEXAS – OVO Hydro, Glasgow Friday 4th March 2022

texas uk tour 2022

FROM THE SOUTHSIDE TO THE NORTHSIDE, THE THRILL HAS DEFINITELY NOT GONE

Glasgow’s very own Texas returned to play the homecoming gig to end all homecoming gigs, and didn’t the fans love it?

Tickets were like gold dust for this long-awaited sold-out show, another one rescheduled thanks to that pesky virus, but one that was well worth the wait.  On this tour Sharleen and the band would revisit their debut album Southside, letting us hear the whole album in its entirety played live for the first time. Is it really 33 years old??

Taking to the stage, the support act for this evening, err…. Texas had a very intimate stage setup, a few mics, stools, their instruments and the band let the music do the talking, although Spiteri did plenty between the tracks too, giving an insight to how the band started, how the album evolved and she recalled when she grew up in nearby Finnieston as a youngster, with the site of the Hydro back in the day her local playground when it was waste ground of a desolate ex-ship yard.

' title=

Opening with a faster paced electric version of debut single, I Don’t Want a Lover, from the opening chord the band were up for this one, the big cheesy grin on Sharleen’s face equalled by the roar of approval from the packed Hydro crowd.  The album contains some great tracks such as Everyday Now, Prayer for You and Thrill Has Gone and 33 years old or not, the tracks still sound fantastic played live.  Spiteri’s vocal talents are still up there, having lost none of the power or emotion in her singing, perfectly matching the musical talents of Tony McGovern on guitars, Johnny McElhone on bass, Eddie Campbell on keys and new addition Cat Myers on drums.

Fool For Love, One Choice and Future is Promises, the album run through is complete and the first half of the show is over.  Spiteri, in her now trademark denim jacket and yellow beanie announced a break for the band and they would make way for the main act.

Time for act two and the main band for this evening are…. Texas, again! This time around would see a ‘greatest hits’ type set-list with some new album tracks and the odd cover thrown in for good measure.  Spiteri, now dressed in purple suit and white trainers with her green guitar bounced across the stage as the opening bars of Halo opened the set, with all the crowd bouncing in tandem.  A terrific song with the singer in terrific form too, and the audience loving the between song banter too.

All the big hits followed on.  Summer Son, In Our Lifetime, Inner Smile and Say What You Want with some new music from the recently released album Hi, the bands tenth, released in 2021.  The title track and single Mr Haze are highlights from that record, and all well received by the fans, who are also in fine voice.

A three-song encore ended the show, including the originally recorded ‘acoustic’ version of I Don’t Want A Lover, 1997’s top five single Black Eyed Boy from the White on Blonde album and closing the evening a rousing rendition of Suspicious Minds, a 1968 track by Mark James made famous the following year by The King, Elvis Pressley.

This was a highly anticipated gig, a Glasgow band playing their home turf always adds a sparkle, and tonight certainly did not disappoint.  The band were on fire, Sharleen Spiteri is at the top of her game, the new music accompanied by the old classics sound as fresh as they ever did and the crowd, crammed down the front like sardines loved every second.  Just a tremendous evening of top pop music, Texas are still a band to see live.

Texas performing their An Evening With Texas Tour at The Royal Concert Hall Nottingham on Wednesday 29 th April 2015

Review and Images by Kevin Cooper

There can’t be many bands who make it to their 25 th anniversary, but then again Texas are not just any other band. Formed back in the midst of time that are the 1980’s, Texas are touring to celebrate their silver anniversary and on the back of their latest album, Texas 25.

Promising to delight us with stories behind some of their hits, lead singer Sharleen Spiteri, now a 47 year old mum, did not disappoint. The night started with just her, wearing her trademark hooped Breton top, a spotlight and her guitar, she gently opened with their recent single, Start A Family.

Gradually the rest of the band joined her on stage to perform Tired Of Being Alone, Guitar Song and a great version of their debut single, I Don’t Want A Lover.

With her delicious Glaswegian brogue she littered the set with hilarious anecdotes about Madonna and Peter Kaye. We also learned how Halo was a two fingered salute to an ex-boyfriend and how actress and Je t’aime singer Jane Birkin “once snogged my face off” during a duet. So entertaining was she that even her potty mouth sounded engaging; well you can take the girl out of Glasgow…

Working through an impressive back catalogue, the band revisited Superfly Boy and Once In A Lifetime before Spiteri announced that it showed that the audience needed a toilet break and then admitted that it was the band who were in dire need.

In the second half Texas moved up a gear with a brass section boosting the sound as they brought out the big hitters. When We Are Together, Black Eyed Boy, Inner Smile, Halo, Summer Son absolutely delighted this near packed Royal Concert Hall, as did a couple of tracks from Spiteri’s Motown-esque solo album. Thanking the crowd for their support over the past 25 years, they finished with Say What You Want.

A second encore produced a rousing cover of Elvis Presley’s Suspicious Minds and too soon this near three hour show was over. Texas have without doubt grown up with their fans, they’ve had children, got a little greyer, but on tonight’s showing, have lost none of their passion and love for their craft. Spiteri’s voice is outstanding, and she sings their greatest hits for all she’s worth.

Spiteri is Texas; she is part tomboy, part rock chick, and when she opens her mouth, a complete Glasgow girl. On tonight’s showing Sharleen Spiteri and Texas are back, but I don’t think that they have ever been away.
