Sting has announced the full line-up for the return of the music festival for the first time in almost a decade.

On Saturday, the official Instagram account for the music festival revealed the line-up list for what seems to be the final listing. The list notably misses quite a few big name acts in the form of veteran artists like Beenie Man , Bounty Killer , and others like Agent Sasco , Ding Dong , etc.

However, there are quite a number of younger artists who are no doubt among the hottest in the music game right now, including Skeng , Silk Boss , Jahshii , Jada Kingdom , Valiant, 450, and Bayka.

The other headlining artists are Shane O, Jahvillani, Daddy 1, Malie Don, Kraff, Chris Martin, Govana, Etana, Jamiel, Shaneil Muir, Dovey Magnum, Topmann, Gyptian, Rhumba, YGF Pablo, and Kip Rich.

The event will also see several female artists featured on the line up including Pamputtae, Rebecca, Moyann, Stalk Ashley, Vanessa Bling, Honey Milan, Lanae, and Sita, all set to perform. The other performers include Chris Gayle, Deno, Unknown Gringo, Bonafide, Posh Gad, Laalee, Franco Wildlife, Jafrass, Jupitar from Quna, Brysco, and Droop Lion.

Sting 2022 will be held on December 26 at Plantation Cove, Ocho Rios, in St. Ann, and VIP tickets are going for $15,000, while general admission is $8,000.

Supreme Promotions Limited returning as the promoter for this year’s staging alongside The Sting 2022 management team.

The return of Sting has been viewed with skepticism as many are of the view that the old style of dancehall clashes is not over with. Some of the most memorable Sting moments include clashes between Beenie Man and Bounty Killer, Ninja Man and Bounty Killer, and Vybz Kartel and Mavado, to name a few, while others like Lady Saw, Spice and other females have had a chance to solidify their careers and fan bases.

In announcing the return of the festival, the organizers back in July noted that the intention was for the event to maintain the same style.

“Sting is the ultimate Colosseum where lyrical masters unleash their lyrical projectiles with the intention of emerging the ultimate victor,” Sting principal said in a statement.

“[Sting] holds the platinum microphone categorization as the seminal and only true stage for the grooming of young, not-so-young, and popular dancehall artistes in the art of stagecraft and lyrical mastery, before a live and interactive audience.”

Review and setlist: Sting plays the Met

Sting takes the stage at the Met for the first of two nights.

Pointing to the fans Sting in concert at The Met, Tuesday, May 10, 2022

Two years and three postponements after he was initially scheduled to perform there, Sting finally arrived at The Met Tuesday for the first of two sold-out shows. (He’ll be back there tonight [Wednesday] then in Atlantic City at the Hard Rock on Friday and Saturday.) Whether it was the pandemic-necessitated time off or just the rare clean-living rock star lifestyle, the 70-year-old took the stage in fine form and finer voice, decked out in black jacket, T-shirt, and leather pants.

Dubbed “My Songs,” after the songwriter’s 2019 cash-grab collection of rerecorded, minimally reconceptualized classics, the current tour is primarily a stroll through Sting’s prodigious back catalog of hits. That notion is more welcome on stage than on record, as Tuesday’s nearly two-hour set was packed with indelible melodies and catchy reggae-lite grooves.

The one digression from the string of hits was a four-song mini-set from The Bridge , Sting’s latest album, released late last year. “You’ve had your hits,” the singer told the crowd with a touch of feigned resentment before sharing the “bad news” that it was time for some new songs. “I’ve suffered for my art. Now it’s your turn.”

Self-deprecation doesn’t sit well on an artist so notorious for self-regard, and the gibes seemed aimed at an audience that hadn’t earned them. While they took their seats for the first time for the new material, they were taking their cue from Sting himself, who perched on a stool for that stretch of the show.

The songs themselves were pleasant adult pop, performed with slick polish: the jaunty whistled refrain of “If It’s Love,” the Spanish-tinged ballad “For Her Love,” the infectious “Rushing Water.” But it was clear that the packed house was there to hear the songs they’d grown up loving. People slowly started returning to their feet for “I Hung My Head” from 1996′s Mercury Falling , better known for Johnny Cash’s late-career cover version; more rose for the silky “Fields of Gold,” but it was the lively “Brand New Day” that got everyone moving again.

The original version of that 1999 single, Sting noted, featured Stevie Wonder on harmonica. Here it was a showcase for harmonica virtuoso Shane Sager, whose youth was the target of some teasing from the bandleader but whose audacious playing made the song one of the show’s most exhilarating moments.

Age was a recurring subject throughout the evening; introducing “I Hung My Head,” Sting took a quick survey of the crowd’s knowledge of vintage Western TV shows, gauging the average age by their familiarity with Wagon Train , Rawhide, or Bonanza (whose familiar theme Sting briefly quoted on his well-worn Fender Precision bass). He explained that he’d had two ambitions in life: to be a musician and to be a cowboy, the latter goal hindered by a lack of “authenticity” for a kid from the north of England.

The subject of authenticity wasn’t broached later in the set when the band ran through a string of reggae-influenced songs from the Police repertoire. A slowed down “Wrapped Around Your Finger” reshaped that 1983 hit with a reggae lope, leading into the dub-inspired “Walking on the Moon.” At the end of “So Lonely,” Sting did acknowledge that tune’s obvious borrowing, turning it into a medley with “No Woman No Cry.”

Starting with “Message in a Bottle,” nearly half of the show’s 21 songs were culled from Sting’s days with the Police. That was followed by the singer’s first solo hit, “If You Love Somebody Set Them Free,” and the graceful “Englishman in New York.” Though it wasn’t quite the end of the show — that came with a “quiet and thoughtful” solo acoustic rendition of the title track from The Bridge — the climax was certainly the one-two punch of “Every Breath You Take” and “Roxanne.” Even given the sometimes over-polished performance and the unfortunate pseudo-jazz pastiche of “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)” that interrupted “Roxanne,” those two songs were still thrilling live.

The songs throughout the night were flawlessly executed by a deft band featuring the guitar tandem of longtime sideman Dominic Miller and his son, Rufus. Sting introduced the ensemble as a “family band,” slyly remarking that bespectacled drummer Zach Jones was Police drummer Stewart Copeland’s son. In addition to the Millers, the frontman’s own son Joe Sumner opened the show with a half-hour set of his own songs (he’ll headline his own show at MilkBoy on Monday). The younger Sumner looks and especially sounds uncannily like his father, so when Joe joined the band for a closing romp through the Police’s “Driven to Tears,” the father-son duet looked like something out of the time travel film Looper .

Sting and Shaggy concert was such a memorable night at The Roundhouse! They played for two hours!! I got the set list in the end and from what they planned, they have changed the last song, which should be Fragile, for Next to You. I sense it was a wise decision as people was more likely to dance than to watch.

I had some good laughs with Shaggy moves and improv, and with Sting playing the part of a prisoner in one particular song.

Other musicians were at their peak, even the guitar player who substituted Dominic, now recovering from surgery.

They distilled a lot of hits, including Love is the 7th Wave, which is so Shaggy in a way.

I am still feeling the positive vibes.

Sting is still incredible in concert! Sting is so freaking talented and I could watch and listen to him all day long! I thought it was funny he was wearing his own Merch. But I wish there was a shirt for the show like the lanyard picture instead. I wasn’t sure about the Shaggy pairing at first but it turned out to be a hit. Shaggy has the most contagious energy and that boy can cardio! The back up singers were surprisingly some of the best talent I have ever seen...they could’ve been headliners too. Every moment was enjoyed and the venue was amazing. KC you didn’t disappoint

Absolutely fantastic! While the Myth is kind of "meh" in terms of operation, it is still a great concert venue (although the stage could use a 1'+ raise) seeing legendary performers in a small venue is worth the price of admission every time! This is how concerts are meant to be and enjoyed. Loved everything about it! Opening the entire show with a Sting solo and closing the same way - CHILLS! Amazing! Please, offer more legends in small venues - we need that!

Sting Returns to Malaysia after 18 Years with New World Tour

Priscilla Emmanuel

Featuring songs from his solo career as well as from his time with The Police, Sting will be performing with special guest Joe Sumner.

Including Malaysia in the lineup for his ‘My Songs’ world tour, Sting will be returning – after almost two decades – in March 2023, and tickets go on sale this week!

The rock legend is set to perform the KL Convention Centre Plenary Hall on 20 March, featuring songs from his career as a solo artist as well as from his years with former band, The Police. Long-time fans will be happy to know that English singer/songwriter Joe Sumner will also be joining Sting as a special guest for the show.

Tickets will go on sale on 28 October 2022 at 10am local time via  Go Live Asia , after a Sting fan club pre-sale on 26 October, and a Live Nation member pre-sale on 27 October. Ticket prices range from RM398 to RM1,288, not inclusive of ticket fee and booking charges.

Sting will be performing a five-date schedule in Japan with stops in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Hiroshima before making his way to Malaysia.

Sting  sold his entire songwriting catalogue to Universal Music Publishing Group  in a deal earlier this year in February, which include the rights to all Sting’s solo songs and the songs he wrote for The Police. The deal was rumoured to be worth over $250million, with Sting himself explaining, “It is absolutely essential to me that my career’s body of work have a home where it is valued and respected – not only to connect with longtime fans in new ways but also to introduce my songs to new audiences, musicians, and generations.”

Sting, who is due to return to the studio this year, also  shared his regret over his 2007 reunion  with Police bandmates Andy Summers and Stuart Copeland, which resulted in a world tour.

“At the time I labelled the tour an exercise in nostalgia. That was simply how I felt and is still how I feel today,” he explained. “I think it’s OK to be honest about your feelings and that was the way it went for me.

“That’s not a slight on the people I was with or the way things panned out, it’s just how I saw it by the end, and let’s be honest, that’s not how I wanted to remember it.”

Red Clay Strays Extend 2024 Tour Dates

Trigger News Red Clay Strays --> 11 Comments

sting band tour 2022

You feel that? That’s the tingling you get when yet another worthy roots band gets its wings and flies into the stratosphere, bolstered by a sound the world was starving for. Thought that the Sun Records influences were all a relic of the past? The Red Clay Strays and their song “Wondering Why” currently charting on Billboard would beg to differ. The Red Clay Strays have just announced new tour dates to go along with a string of sold out shows already on the calendar, and a bunch of major festival appearances as everyone lines up to get them on their roster. You basically have one more chance to see them in smaller venues or on midday sets at festivals. After their new Dave Cobb-produced album comes out later this year, it will be curtains on seeing them in intimate spaces. Don’t say you didn’t get fair warning. That Red Rocks show is also with American Aquarium (Turpike Troubadours headlining). The next night is TT with Wyatt Flores and Sierra. See y’all there

We saw American Aquarium open for the Drive-By Truckers in Bloomington, IL this past summer. I’ve seen DBT four or five times now, that was the first time seeing AA. BJ puts on a helluva show, and the rest of the band was great—that Red Rocks show with Turnpike, AA, and Red Clay Strays should be an amazing night

I remember seeing these guys – kids at the time – back in 2016 like it was yesterday playing a 4 hour set at the Florabama doing Waylon and Sturgill and Johnny Cash covers. Brandon channeling his inner Elvis and John looking like Animal from the Muppets behind the kit. I walked out of there and committed that name – Red Clay Strays – to memory. There was no doubt in my mind they were special. Couldn’t happen to a nicer, more hard working group of guys. I’ve always said my first show at the Ryman needed to be for a special artist and I’m glad I waited. Seeing them in September will truly be a full circle moment. Next stop – headlining Red Rocks!

Going to definitely try to make it to one of the Columbus shows. These guys are fantastic, my favorite new band I’ve discovered in years.

' data-tf-not-load src=

I was able to see them in recent years in Pascagoula, MS and again in Biloxi, MS. The whole band are nice, hard- working, and entertaining. They’ve worked for their recent success, and I wish them well. One day I’ll make it to Flor-a-Bama.

Saw them live when they opened for Turnpike a couple months ago, they put on a damn good show.

I had the privilege of seeing these cats play 3rd & Lindsley twice back in 2022, and those shows still stand as the highlights of that year. Glad to see them finally getting the attention and success they deserve! Now, if only some of that luck would swing to Strung Like A Horse, all would be right with the world.

' data-tf-not-load src=

Those Strung Like a Horse guys are pretty good, thanks for the recommendation!

They’re bad ass. I missed them at Hanks a few months ago…can’t wait to catch them live eventually. The closure of Hanks in McKinney is an article worthy eulogy in my opinion

' data-tf-not-load src=

Two of the best shows I saw last year were Mike and the Moonpies/Silverada and Red Clay Strays. Brandon is a heckuva singer. Go see them if you can.

Saw them two weeks ago at Mile 0 Fest in Key West. They crushed it. Just committed to seeing them at Red Rocks with AA and Turnpike. That is a killer triple bill! If they ever come to Milwaukee or the Dells I will be there too. They won me over.
