Kesha Will Celebrate A ‘Transformative Year’ With ‘The Only Love Tour’ With Jake Wesley Rogers

Danielle Chelosky

Kesha is back. In June, the pop star shared that the defamation lawsuit producer Dr. Luke filed against her in 2014 was settled out of court . “I am so full of light and excitement for the beautiful things to come, for shows to play, and art to make to share with you all,” she wrote .

Before that, the singer had announced The Gag Order Tour , but it’s now been renamed to The Only Love Tour .

“My animals. My fans. This has been a truly transformative year,” she wrote on social media. “And we have a LOT of overdue celebrating to do together. I’ve decided to change the name of my fall tour from ‘The Gag Order Tour’ to the ‘THE ONLY LOVE TOUR.’ Life is too short, and I want to celebrate the freedom and love in my life with all of you. LET’S DO THIS. Only love can save us now #OnlyLoveTour.”

Ke$ha worked her way into the spotlight the hard way but now, having sold over 57 million records worldwide, her time has definitely come.

Born in California in 1987, Kesha Rose Sebert was raised by a single mother who was a successful singer-songwriter in her own right but struggled financially, torn between the demands of her craft and the need to support her family. When the family moved to Nashville, a young Kesha’s out-there persona did not sit well with the conservative surroundings however she used the time productively to work on her music and built her craft.

When she was just 17 she was persuaded to drop out of school and return to California to pursue music by songwriter and producer ‘Dr Luke’ who subsequently signed Kesha to his label and publishing company. Slowly, with Dr Luke's tutorage, Kesha began to write songs for artists and feature as a backing singer but still had to waitress on the side in order to live.

Her first breakthrough came when she sang backing on Flo Rida’s massive hit ‘Right Round’ but, determined to make it on her own terms, she declined featuring in the video or taking any credit for the performance. The appearance did however act as a catalyst for her signing a deal with RCA and finally being able to put the finishing touches to an album that she had already been working on for 6 years.

That album became ‘Animal’ which hit the top of the Billboard charts when it was released in January 2010 birthing the massive single ‘Tik Tok’. Having worked hard to get to that point, Ke$ha wasn’t going to stop there and the success continued with the release of her second album ‘Warrior. To begin with the dollar sign in Ke$ha’s name was an ironic nod to being broke but now everyone knows that it spells success.

Live reviews

‘Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy’…. Whether you’re a fan or not, it is hard to deny that Ke$ha makes great pop songs. Catchy hooks and unforgettable lyrics in abundance, like or loathe the music she makes, her success speaks for itself and her first two albums achieved nine top 10 hits on the Billboard charts.

It is hard not to have fun at a Ke$ha show, if you do not mind getting covered in glitter that is. It rains glitter at Ke$ha gigs, quite literally. From the ceiling to the floor, everything is covered in the stuff- even Ke$ha’s ‘animals’ who make spontaneous appearances on the stage, throw buckets full of glitter into the audience.

I’ve seen Ke$ha live a number of times and watched her live show improve and evolve into the spectacle it is now. As she has achieved more success, the production effort put into her show has increased immensely, which means set changes, dazzling lighting displays, dancers and of course more glitter!

One of the best was at Brixton Academy. Hits like ‘Tik Tok”, “We R Who We R” and “Die Young” stirred the young audience in a glitter fuelled frenzy and the whole place buzzed with an energy that is rare to feel at live shows these days.

If fun, light-hearted pop music is your thing, you should definitely catch a Ke$ha show and even if it’s not, you’ll still find it pretty difficult not to enjoy yourself.

Ke$ha was one of the craziest, wildest and outlandish artists I have ever seen live. She rocked on to stage in suitably wacky style, with copious amounts of glitter. Indeed, glitter seemed to feature quite heavily throughout the night, culminating in glitter cannons at the end (which were, undeniably, awesome). Ke$ha puts on a fun show, and her music is catchy, fun and pop-tastic. The emphasis of the show was not necessarily to showcase great vocal talent, but more to put on a spectacle and to entertain. And I was certainly entertained. Ke$ha performed her greatest hits, such as ‘Your Love is My Drug’ and ‘Tik Tok’, which was played in the very middle of the show and which had the entire audience screaming along to the lyrics and dancing crazily. ‘Timber’ ended the show on a high, and had the entire crowd jumping up and down, causing a mild earthquake. The backing dancers were great and very entertaining: Ke$ha engaged with them throughout the show, going so far as to even give a couple of the male dancers a cheeky lap dance, in her suitably wacky fashion.

The one woman party that is Ke$ha really shows her fellow divas that they do not have overthink the live experience in order to still entertain fans. There is no sign of thoughtful video interludes or slick, week long choreographed routines during this lady's show but instead there is a huge emphasis on fun and a crazy amount of glitter.

Beginning behind some DJ decks with flashing glasses, she plays 'Sleazy' and 'Blow' in quick succession to get the crowds jumping and runs through her hits keeping the audience involved throughout. At one point she pulls a member out from the masses and offers them a lap dance before her backing dancer dressed as a giant penis teases him. It sounds as bizarre as it was, by the time Ke$ha is back on to the hits the energy levels are at an all time high. A brilliant finale of 'Your Love Is My Drug' and 'Tik Tok' accompanied by huge glitter cannons proves that female singers do not have to take themselves too seriously to conduct brilliant live shows.

Amazing. So f ing amazing. I loved it, even though the venue only had 1000 people in it, people were screaming, and I could feel the love. She sang all her classics hits, sang with her mom, had a guitar battle, sang the high note in Praying. Everything you could ever want in a concert. But one thing, the opening act was terrible. They were screaming, NOT singing. Legit, when we walked out, confetti was everywhere. That’s how you know it was a party!!!

Kesha has amazing stage presence and has the most confidence I've ever seen. Warning: she does swear a lot while she's talking but is very down to earth and makes a real connection to her fans. There was not a dry eye during praying. Didn't perform many songs but the speech before We R Who We R was the best thing I've ever heard.

Kesha was terrific. Only thing that was sad was she saved my favorite song- Tic Toc to the end and I had to leave and hear it in the parking lot. Many people seemed to want to hear it earlier in her set.

Amazing!!! Loved her crowd interaction and her energy. She completely brings it live. She has a powerhouse personality and she sings better live than on the record. Would definitely see again!!!

Kesha’s newfound freedom takes centre stage during Only Love Tour – review

Kesha took her highly anticipated ‘Only Love Tour’ to Orlando, Florida in a show that celebrated her longstanding legacy while looking towards a brighter future.

WORDS BY  CONOR CLARK

31st October 2023

kesha uk tour 2023

Attending a Kesha concert in 2023 without some knowledge of the legal battles she was tied up in throughout the last decade is impossible – and she knows it too. Instead of opening her show in Orlando, Florida with the smash hit ‘Tik Tok’ or the diamond-selling ‘Timber’ like she may have several years ago, she takes to the stage belting out ‘Only Love Can Save Us Now’, a liberating anthem from her latest album ‘Gag Order’ . “Not anymore bitch,” she shouts to a crowd erupting with applause after singing a lyric about getting sued over her mother’s tweets. The moment, despite being brief, is reflective of the apparent theme of ‘The Only Love Tour’ – freedom.

Instead of making the night a reflection of her trauma, Kesha opts to treat her thousands of fans packing out the Hard Rock Live in Orlando on 20 October to a celebration of her life and music. Against a minimalistic backdrop on stage made up of some elevated platforms and an array of ever changing coloured lights, she effortlessly ploughs through some of her biggest hits alongside the favourites that are beloved by fans. It’s no surprise that they sing the lyrics to classics like ‘Take It Off’ and ‘Your Love is My Drug’ the loudest, though Kesha slots them into her setlist so effortlessly that you’d never know they were once defining moments in her career.

Camp choreography is sprinkled throughout the set, helping to make songs like ‘Cannibal’ and ‘Die Young’ highlights of the evening because of Kesha’s ability to not take herself too seriously. ‘Raising Hell’ shows this best, given that she dons a hilarious nun costume while performing the iconic Big Freedia collab. It’s indicative of a Kesha seemingly re-energised by her newfound freedom as she never stops to take her foot off the gas from the moment she takes the stage.

That’s not to say there aren’t moments where the show slows down and feels more intimate. Kesha plays both the piano and guitar during the middle of her set, resulting in very special performances of both ‘Rainbow’ and ‘Hymn’ – the latter of which is met with a sea of flashlights waving in the air. If that’s not enough for you, then maybe a surprise cover of ‘Till the World Ends’ by Britney Spears ( a song originally written by Kesha ) will be – particularly when she switches gears midway and dances around the stage as she transitions from piano to upbeat instrumental. “I got to write an amazing song for an amazing woman who is also celebrating her freedom,” she told the crowd. “I fucking love that she is telling her truth right now!”

The lesser known album tracks such as ‘Backstabber’ and ‘Hate Me Harder’ – which are among the few non-singles Kesha performs on the tour – appear to be some of the most appreciated by fans, making it a shame that more aren’t featured in the setlist. In fact, the only negative of ‘The Only Love Tour’ is that it has to end. Throwing in an extra song or two from ‘Gag Order’ would have gone a long way in satisfying those who adore the record and what it represents.

Regardless, an encore made up of fan favourite ‘Praying’ and LGBTQIA+ anthem ‘We R Who We R’ bring the show to an epic end. The former gives Kesha a chance to show off her vocals one last time and is by far the standout performance of the night, with the latter having the added touch of Pride flags flown around stage by dancers.

So, whether you go to ‘The Only Love Tour’ to cry, party or both, it’s impossible to leave disappointed. It’s less of a show and more like a complete liberation, which Kesha is clearly ready to celebrate.

Kesha Announces 20-City Tour in Support of Vulnerable New Album 'Gag Order': 'Who's Turning Up?'

"We gonna burn the house down," wrote the musician alongside the announcement for the tour, set to go down this fall

Vince Haycock

The party's starting —  Kesha 's going on tour!

On Tuesday, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter announced a 20-city North American tour in support of her new album Gag Order , set to go down this fall with special guest Jake Wesley Rogers.

"GAG ORDER TOUR. WHO'S TURNING UP?" wrote Kesha, 36, alongside the tour's announcement on Instagram. She also took to the comments section underneath the post, writing, "We gonna burn the house down bby."

Kicking off Oct. 15 in Dallas, the Gag Order Tour will hit venues throughout North America including New Orleans, Atlanta, Nashville, Philadelphia, Boston, New York City, Toronto, Detroit and Chicago before wrapping on Nov. 18 in Los Angeles.

Courtesy RCA Records

Presale tickets become available on Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time before the general sale opens to all fans on Friday at 10 a.m. local time. More information is available at Kesha's website .

Released earlier this month,  Gag Order  finds the "Tik Tok" performer in an especially introspective space, as she sings about mental health and past romantic relationships. Throughout the record, she also seems to allude to her ongoing legal battle with ex-collaborator  Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald .

Kesha first sued the producer in 2014 for sexual, emotional and physical abuse, and he filed a countersuit the same year. Her claims were dismissed by a judge in 2016, but  his defamation suit  against her is set to go to trial this summer — despite multiple appeals.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone , she referred to the new album as "the most intimate thing I've ever created."

"I really dug into some of my uglier emotions and sides of myself that are less fun," Kesha told the outlet. "It's scary being vulnerable. The fact that I have compiled an entire record of these emotions, of anger, of insecurity, of anxiety, of grief, of pain, of regret, all of that is so nerve-racking — but it's also so healing."

THE Tour Championship is well underway with the world's top players desperate to head to the Crucible in top form.

And what a huge quarter-final we have in store - with Ronnie O'Sullivan facing rival Ali Carter.

The tournament in Manchester is giving players the opportunity to polish their game ahead of the World Snooker Championships .

Carter to face O'Sullivan

Ali Carter will resume his rivalry with Snotgate nemesis Ronnie O’Sullivan on Wednesday.

The Captain knocked out Barry Hawkins 10-8 in the first round of the Tour Championship in Manchester.

Yet he had to hold his nerve in the evening session, despite being 7-1 and then 9-5 up, as The Hawk mounted a spirited and late fightback.

The victory now pits him against the Rocket over two sessions on Wednesday, with the quarter-final clash played to a conclusion in the evening.

Essex boys O’Sullivan and Carter have not met across a snooker table since the infamous Masters final on January 14.

The world No.1 won that clash 10-7 at Ally Pally but afterwards he was accused by the Colchester cueist of “snotting all over the floor”.

Carter, 44, alleged the seven-time world champion violently cleared his nose while sitting in his chair in the final frames of the North London finale, calling it “disgusting” and “outrageous behaviour from a top professional”.

Carter 10-8 Hawkins 8

What a performance and what a match!

Ali Carter just managed to beat Barry Hawkins and will now face his good friend Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Williams 10-9 Ford

Gary Wilson frustration

Gary Wilson may have progressed to face China’s Zhang Anda in a best-of-19 frames quarter-final but he, too, was frustrated by his cueing action.

The North East cueist hit a century of 101 in frame seven but received a warning by the ref for whacking the table for missing a red to the middle pocket in the 15th frame.

I don’t know how I won that. I’m thankful that Mark didn’t play very well. I was embarrassing to be honest. The cue action wasn’t there on day one. I felt deep down all along I was struggling cueing-wise. Just tried plugging away. I was not cueing very well. I can score when that is happening. It felt bad. That’s why I missed so many balls. Gave him so many lifelines. I’m not enjoying it. If I had played decent and Mark played as badly as he did, I should have won 10-3 or 10-4. It was that bad it came very close. Sometimes there is self-sabotage with my shots. Gary Wilson

Doherty on Selby

Ken Doherty appeared "concerned" with Mark Selby's performance against Gary Wilson.

It’s a concern. It surprises me. Probably a kneejerk reaction. He’s been one of the most successful players that the game has ever seen. One of the toughest players. He has come back from defeats before. I am sure he will come back up again. Ken Doherty

Mark Selby warning

Mark Selby has threatened to quit professional snooker if he replicates the “pathetic” form he showed in his Tour Championship exit.

The Leicester Jester was eliminated 10-8 by Gary Wilson in a low-quality first-round tie in Manchester in the penultimate event of the season.

The four-time world snooker champion, who has had battles with mental health down the years, was angry and crestfallen by his display over two days of play.

And Selby, 40, vowed to hang up his cue for good if he does not rediscover his mojo when the World Championship takes place at the Crucible this month.

No, I don’t think so. I mean I was pathetic really, from start to finish. Probably one of the worst games I’ve played as a professional. Definitely up there for sure. If I carry on playing like that, then yeah, I won’t be enjoying it and I will be choosing a different career for sure. Neither of us played great in the second session, Gary played well on Monday and deserved his 5-3 lead. Today neither of us played great. I was like that all match. I deserved to lose. I will give the World Championship a go, but if I keep playing like that, I’m not going to carry on. 100 per cent, I have always said in interviews before, when it gets to the point that I’m not enjoying it, then it doesn’t matter where I am in the world rankings, I will be hanging up cue up. I can’t enjoy performances like that. Mark Selby

Fast and furious

Luca Brecel has opened up about his car towing hell.

The former world snooker champion teamed up with Reanna Evans to beat Mark Selby and Rebecca Kenna 4-2 to win the World Mixed Doubles final on Sunday.

But that day started off in nightmare fashion after his car was towed.

Brecel  told ITV: “I parked my car in the wrong place and it got taken away, so I had to go and get it just before the final and then just about made it back in time.

“Crazy story. But luckily, I made it in time.”

The Belgian is known for his lavish car collection and often buys himself a luxury car as a treat.

Mark allen on beating john higgins.

Mark Allen beat John Higgins 10-7 to reach the second round last night.

Here's what he had to say: "I was hanging in there at the start. He froze me out, but to get out of the earlier session at 4-4 I was happy about.

"It is fine margins in these matches. I won three frames on the black and I also won a frame with John touching a ball with his sleeve so it could have been a very different scoreline."
