Jimmy Rees is back with his Hilarious “ Not That Kinda Viral ” Tour

  • May 4, 2023

Owen George

Jimmy Rees, beloved Australian entertainer and former star of ABC Kid’s TV series Giggle & Hoot, is set to embark on his Not That Kinda Viral Tour in 2023; this 12-date, Australia-wide, bringing laughter and joy to audiences from August to November.

The tour will cover a wide range of locations, including Melbourne, Canberra, Wollongong, Sydney, Newcastle, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Darwin, and Hobart. Fans across the country will have the opportunity to catch Jimmy’s hilarious performance live on stage.

The Not That Kinda Viral Tour is a follow-up to Jimmy’s highly successful Meanwhile In Australia tour in 2022. Originally planned for just five shows, the tour expanded to an impressive 35 sold-out shows, including seven shows in his hometown of Melbourne. The overwhelming response from fans, with many shows selling out on the day of release, solidified the tour as one of the most successful comedy tours of the year.

Jimmy’s journey in entertainment began with his iconic role as Jimmy Giggle in Giggle & Hoot. The award-winning ABC Kids series made him a household name, with the show airing seven days a week on the national broadcaster. Even today, Giggle & Hoot continues to captivate young audiences, as it is still broadcast daily on the ABC.

During his time with Giggle & Hoot, Jimmy Rees toured extensively, entertaining over 500,000 people live. He also released several albums, including the popular Jimmy Giggle’s Christmas Party, which reached the top spot on the iTunes charts. The album featured collaborations with renowned artists such as Tina Arena, Fifi Box, Justine Clarke, David Campbell, and Deb Mailman.

However, it was during the pandemic that Jimmy underwent a personal reinvention, leaving his Jimmy Giggle persona behind. He gained international recognition and became a viral sensation with his quick-witted comedy sketches, which resonated with audiences worldwide. Across platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram, Jimmy amassed a substantial following of adoring fans, expanding beyond children to include like-minded adults.

His highly entertaining videos and playlists cover a variety of topics, showcasing his comedic talents. From hilarious skits like Border Control for… and The Guy Who Decides… to relatable content like Parenting Funnies and Meanwhile in Bryon Bay and Meanwhile in Brighton, Jimmy’s creativity and humor have struck a chord with viewers.

As the Not That Kinda Viral Tour approaches, fans eagerly anticipate Jimmy Rees’ return to the stage. His ability to connect with audiences through laughter and entertainment has made him one of Australia’s favorite entertainers. Whether you were a fan during his Giggle & Hoot days or discovered him through his viral videos, this tour promises to deliver unforgettable moments of laughter and joy for all who attend. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to experience Jimmy Rees live in action on his nationwide tour.

After touring metro cities over the last few years, I couldn’t be more pumped to be bringing a new live show to many local towns around the country where some I’m visiting and performing for the very first time! Let’s Get Regional!…shut up Jason!,” says Jimmy Rees.

Jimmy Rees, renowned for his role as Giggle on ABC’s Giggle & Hoot from 2009 to 2019, transitioned into primetime TV as a contestant on Dancing With The Stars in 2019. However, it was during the pandemic that Jimmy’s comedy truly took off.

Gaining over 200 million viewing minutes on Facebook alone, Jimmy’s social media comedy, including parodies of Dan Andrews’ media conferences and various observational humour videos, resonated across generations. His ‘Meanwhile in Australia’ series, ‘The Guy Who Decides,’ and ‘Jason… shut up Jason!’ became viral hits.

Following the success of his ‘Not That Kinda Viral’ tour, Jimmy Rees is taking his comedy to regional towns all over Australia. The tour includes a special charity fundraising show in Lismore, NSW, to support the town’s recovery from recent floods.

The Telstra Plus presale kicks off on Thursday, November 16, followed by the Frontier Member presale on Monday, November 20. General ticket sales open on Wednesday, November 22. Find out more and get tickets here .

My Travel CV: Jimmy Rees' travel tip - Never take this side of the hotel bed

The Aussie comedian has travelled the world, and has a unique take on an age-old hotel quandary.

10 under-the-radar Greek Islands

Don't miss out on the headlines from Lifestyle. Followed categories will be added to My News.

The Aussie comedian and entertainer Jimmy Rees has an eye for a crazy place name and knows how to avoid waking up on the wrong side of the bed. This is his Travel CV:

My travel tips are…

Whichever side of the bed you’re first inclined to pick, go with the opposite. Trust me, everyone uses that side. Don’t get to the airport too early.

Au revoir, Paris! These are the most charming towns to visit in France

I got my first passport when…

I was 16 and went to Adelaide for the Fringe Festival. I know you don’t need a passport to go to Adelaide, but it felt like I needed one. No, I went overseas that year to visit relatives in the UK with my folks.

My first holiday memory is…

On a farmstead with my family. I vaguely remember sheepdogs herding sheep, riding on tractors and finding skulls and other random things at the farm. Oh, and also playing with my brothers in the mud underneath a windmill. In terms of overseas holidays, a trip to the UK, Switzerland and Spain in my early teens.

I’ve been to...

Eighteen countries (I think), mostly European. Yes, I did a Contiki tour.

I got my first passport when I was 16 to visit relatives in the UK.

My most recent trip was to…

Singapore, which was, surprisingly, my first trip to Asia. Like a lot of Australians, it was always a stop-off point on the way to Europe, but I didn’t ever really leave the airport (and if you’ve been through Changi Airport, you can understand why). But this year, I finally got a chance to go exploring. Singapore is amazing. For a small country in Southeast Asia, I was surprised by how much there is to do there, but at the top of my list of things to try was the food. It is out-of-this-world delicious. I highly recommend visiting the hawker centre, Lau Pa Sat. All in all, the people are friendly, there are plenty of attractions, the whole place is so easy to get around, it’s green, it’s warm, and I love it.

My favourite place in Australia is…

Bright, Victoria. Beautiful country town. Float down the river in summer and go mountain bike riding, and in winter you are close to the Victorian ski fields. I live near the beach, so it’s always great to go inland.

The places I’d love to visit in Australia are…

Useless Loop (WA), Nowhere Else (Tas), Nowhere Else (SA), Eggs and Bacon Bay (Tas) and Gympie (Qld). And yes, all these places actually exist, even Gympie.

My most recent trip was to Singapore, which was, surprisingly, my first trip to Asia. Picture: iStock.

The place I’d rather be right now is…

Home. I like my home. It has an open fire going right now, my dog, my family and a bunch of my favourite toys.

The place I’ve visited most often is…

The toilet – even overseas – especially overseas. It’s one of those things that comes with travelling to some of the places I’ve been to over the years. I had no trouble in Singapore, though. I am looking forward to going back, this time with the kids.

The advice I’d give to young travellers is…

Are you saying I’m old? How dare you! Travel now, and do it because one day you will have twin five-year-olds and a nine-year-old and it becomes a logistical nightmare and expensive.

The sickest I’ve been on holiday was when I got eczema travelling to Queensland, now I have it forever. Picture: iStock.

The sickest I’ve been on holiday…

I got the worst eczema one year travelling to Queensland and now I have it forever. (I was also only 13, so maybe a coincidence.)

The souvenir I always buy…

I don’t buy souvenirs. I’d rather just eat the local cuisine and maybe take a picture.

The most interesting person I’ve met on a plane is…

I once met an author who wrote psychological horror books.

Travel has taught me that Australia is massive. Picture: iStock.

My go-to dish for room service is…

Chicken parma with chips, a side of vegies and gravy, and a gin and tonic.

The best hotels I’ve stayed at...

My top three: The Tasman in Hobart (got an upgrade), Hilton Singapore and Jackalope (on the Mornington Peninsula).

Travel has taught me…

Patience and also, Australia is massive – let alone the world. The history, influences, food and culture of different countries is amazing and I wish I had more time to explore. Also, you just have to be patient with the waiting and the flying and the transfers and the living out of the suitcase.

An ambassador for the Singapore Tourism Board , Jimmy Rees is on his Let’s Get Regional tour , with shows coming up in Warragul, Cairns, Geelong, Townsville and Mt Gambier.

How many flights have you missed?

Zero (lucky me).

Passports/visas/wallets/luggage lost?

Zero passports / zero visas / zero luggage / 48 wallets … I’m hopeless with the wallet.

Who is your favourite travel  companion?

More coverage.

jimmy rees tour

My noise-cancelling headphones and my wife – in that order. (This is a joke.)

Flight, cruise, car or train?

Flight all the way. Business Class Singapore Airlines (I wasn’t paying). Incredible.

"A very enjoybale day in Moscow. We had a very nice and knowledgeable guide Anastasia.(Nastia) She was very passionate about the City and we learnt so much in our brief four hours walk with her! Certainly this walking tour added a lot of value to our Moscow Holiday. A great idea to educate visitors about Russia and Moscow. The group was intimate enough to ask questions and stop for snacks etc..we thoriughly enjoyed it and would highly reccomend it.Carry on doing a great job!"

"I really enjoyed the tour, it was a great experience, very informative and fun. I will definitely tell everybody about that tour, keep it it is a fantastic idea!"

"Sorry I do not remember the names :( ... They were very talkative and very into everything. I think they both really love the city, and they made me feel like this to. They knew much about History, which was very informative! Great guides!!!"

"We partook of the fantastic Petersburg Free Tour. Due to our timing during the low season (shockingly not everyone is flocking to Moscow while the average temperature is 15F), it ended up being just us and Sonia, the afore-mentioned super-guide. She quickly ascertained the limited scope of our wanderings.."

Election latest: Tories 'already vying to take over from Sunak if he loses' - but the public's favourite isn't even in the party

A poll has found Reform's Nigel Farage would be the favourite to take over as Tory leader if Rishi Sunak loses the election. Labour says the Conservatives are already battling over the succession. Earlier, the transport secretary denied that the PM's D-Day blunder had lost the election.

John Swinney says Rishi Sunak "completely destroyed" his credibility as prime minister by leaving D-Day commemorations early.

Speaking to journalists on the campaign trail in Livingston, the Scottish First Minister said: "I think Rishi Sunak's credibility is completely destroyed by his departure from D-Day early and the insult he delivered to the veterans who had travelled to Normandy for that solemn occasion.

"It also, frankly, was a desertion of the international responsibilities of the prime minister.

"The prime minister and especially the Conservative election campaign is now utterly in tatters."

Mr Sunak was forced to apologise for leaving France before an international ceremony attended by world leaders, saying it had been a mistake - but he said it was important not to "politicise" the decision.

The Tory battle bus has rolled into County Durham, with Rishi Sunak heading to two locations in the North East today - but don't expect him to be answering questions.

The PM is not doing any interviews with national or broadcast media today and a possible huddle - when he takes questions from reporters off-camera - has been cancelled.

He may, however, do some interviews with regional media.

While the PM may not be speaking for himself today, much has been said this morning about his decision to bow out of D-Day commemorations early.

Shadow business secretary Jonathan Reynolds called it "inexplicable" while Sir Ed Davey said it made him "pretty cross" and Transport Secretary Mark Harper labelled it a "mistake" - but said it wouldn't cost the Tories the election.

The Lib Dem leader says he's "pretty cross" about Rishi Sunak's decision to leave D-Day commemorations early and has called on him to make a donation to a veterans' charity to make amends.

Sir Ed Davey urged the Conservatives to give some of the cash donated to the party by Frank Hester, a businessman who was embroiled in a racism row, to charity.

"I think the Conservative Party should give £5 million of that donation to a veterans charity. I think if they did that, then people might be able to draw the line.

"But it's such a letdown for our whole country and our history, particularly for our brave veterans."

The Liberal Democrats have pledged to create three new national parks in England.

This manifesto commitment would bring the number of national parks in England up to 13, with the party saying it would spend £50m a year maintaining them.

The Chilterns in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire are possible locations for the new parks, along with the Mendips, Cotswolds and Quantocks.

Other proposed areas include the Surrey Hills, Northumberland coast and Dorset.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey accused the Tories of having "broken too many promises to protect our countryside".

"It is hard to overstate the difference things like National Parks can make to entire communities," he said.

Reform UK and the Conservatives are neck-and-neck in a new poll of Welsh voters with each party taking 18% of the share.

But both trail Labour, which is far ahead on 45%, according to the survey by Redfield & Wilton.

The poll of 960 Welsh voters put Plaid Cymru on 11%, Liberal Democrats on 5% and Greens on 4%.

Only 39% of those who voted for the Conservatives in Wales in 2019 will vote Conservative again, the poll showed - with 32% of past Conservative voters saying they would defect to Reform UK.

It comes after the latest YouGov poll of UK voters for Sky News showed Reform had pulled to within two points of the Conservatives.

Sky News has been tracking locations visited by party leaders in the first two weeks of the general election campaign to decipher what their choices tell us about the parties' election strategies.

Of the 650 seats,  54 have now been visited during the campaign by Rishi Sunak, Sir Keir Starmer or Ed Davey.

The South East seems to be garnering the most attention with 12 visits overall - highlighting the importance of the region for all of the English parties.

Read more from Sky News elections analyst Dr Hannah Bunting and data journalist Joely Santa Cruz here:

Politicians "should level with the public" and admit voters face higher taxes whoever wins the election, a thinktank says.

The Resolution Foundation, an independent thinktank focused on improving living standards for people on low to middle incomes, has published a paper looking at planned and proposed tax rises.

Households will see their tax bill rise by around £800, according to its analysis, with already agreed tax rises totalling £23bn a year by 2028/29. That includes a 5p rise in fuel duty due in spring 2025.

Stamp duty currently kicks in on house sales over £250,000 but this threshold will fall to £125,000 from March 2025, so the levy will apply to cheaper - and likely more - purchases. (Although the Tories have said they will axe stamp duty on homes up to £425,000 for first-time buyers - see our 9.22am post for more.)

The Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Business Rates Relief Scheme will end at the same time.

The thinktank's economists have described the timing as a "tax sandwich" which will begin to bite after the election.

"Politicians should level with the public, and admit that taxes are already set to rise whoever wins the election, even if it's less entertaining than the usual election fodder of secret bombshells and debatable dossiers," Adam Corlett, Resolution Foundation principal economist, said.

First-time buyers will not have to pay stamp duty on homes up to £425,000 under a new commitment from the Tories.

The manifesto pledge builds on a proposal from former prime minister Liz Truss's Growth Commission.

What is stamp duty?

Stamp duty is a land tax people pay when buying a residential property.

It currently applies to sales over £250,000. You pay 5% on the portion of the property price from £250,000 to £925,000, and 10% of the portion from £925,000 to £1.5m.

There's a 12% tax on anything over £1.5m.

The proposed change is projected to impact 200,000 households every year.

Will it be a Cruel Summer for British politicians? And will warring parties listen when Taylor sings You Need To Calm Down?

Arts and entertainment correspondent Katie Spencer was at the first stop on Taylor Swift's Eras tour in Edinburgh last night.

She spoke to fans hopeful the election would bring about change - and that Ed Davey would appear on stage to do some gymnastics with Taylor.

Nigel Farage is the people's pick to take over from Rishi Sunak as leader of the Conservatives if Labour wins the election, according to a new poll.

The poll of 2,000 people showed 19% think Mr Farage should take over from Mr Sunak.

The poll offered six other names - Penny Mordaunt (15%), James Cleverly (6%), Kemi Badenoch (5%), Suella Braverman (4%), Priti Patel (2%) and Robert Jenrick (1%).

However, the majority of those surveyed in the poll for The Independent were stumped as to who should take the Tories' top job - 48% said they did not know who should replace Mr Sunak.

While Mr Farage topped the poll, the chances of him taking over Conservative leadership are slim to none.

He left the party in 1992 and has said the country has been "betrayed" by the Tories.

After confirming he would stand for Reform in the general election earlier this week, he told the BBC there were "no circumstances whatsoever" under which he would rejoin the Conservatives.
