Both matches will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which has a capacity of 100,000, and the Victorian government said it expected the games to attract around 150,000 fans.

"This is a great opportunity to see one of the world's greatest sporting teams play in Melbourne," Victoria's minister for employment Jaala Pulford said.

Manchester United last visited Australia in July 2019, when they faced Leeds United and Perth Glory in Perth.

Overseas Liverpool fans making Jürgen Klopp pilgrimage - tears, good fortune and 8400km

Liverpool will say goodbye to Jürgen Klopp on Sunday. Among the 60,000 inside Anfield, a select few will be making the journey of a lifetime to be there.

  • 07:00, 18 MAY 2024

The reality that Jürgen Klopp is truly leaving Liverpool is just now starting to sink in. Fans around the globe will have by now been floored by countless montages, memories and interviews — and a lucky few will get the chance to say their goodbyes in person at Anfield .

For Liverpool fans overseas, and especially in the US, every trip to Anfield is a pilgrimage. Some make the long journey just to soak up the atmosphere, or to take in the stadium tour. But a handful of them will now get the opportunity to witness Klopp’s final farewell, a historic moment in the club’s history.

Aside from some understandable jealousy, you certainly couldn’t begrudge them their presence. In the shape of Mark Kastner, I thought I’d have found the fan making the longest journey — he’ll be at the Wolves game after travelling more than 5000km from St Paul, Minnesota.

Jürgen Klopp's favorite trophy won with Liverpool is not what you'd expect

Jürgen Klopp makes final demand to Liverpool fans ahead of emotional Anfield farewell

A fan of more than 20 years, Kastner is one of countless examples of a ‘converted’ Liverpool supporter, set on the path to Anfield by a Scouse missionary.

“While I was in school as a kid there was another kid from Liverpool that I became friends with and honestly, he didn't really give me a choice in who I supported,” Kastner explained. “He told me I was a Liverpool supporter and I have been ever since!”

Decades down the road, that’s led to the trip of a lifetime. It will be a little different to the usual viewing experience for a US fan.

“I typically either watch at home or with a small group of friends at a local bar in town here,” Kastner told me. “I recently moved to the Twin Cities from Seattle, WA so Liverpool has been a really good excuse to get out and meet people.

“Despite the growing popularity of the Premier League in the States, it's still dwarfed by other American sports leagues so when people find out I sometimes head to a bar for a 9am match I get some funny looks!”

Like Kastner, US-based fan Ryan Hurley only found out he had a ticket very recently. And coming from Monterey, California, he takes the crown for journeying the furthest, making the 8400km trip to Liverpool to say goodbye to Klopp.

“I [felt] sure we were going to have a parade,” Hurley recounts. “So I book a ticket for this weekend. I didn’t expect a ticket to the game.

“I just wanted to be there. I wanted to be in that number.

“As we falter and finally it’s announced there will be no parade, I have a think. Should I still go? And my soul told me yes. I want to be in Taggy’s next to Anfield for the last day of Klopp.

“Yesterday [Tuesday] morning I wake up to a message… I’ve got a ticket. I get to say goodbye to Klopp. He gets to hear my voice. I get to thank him one more time.

“I’m now crying. I’m so, so thankful.”

It’s a stroke of luck any Liverpool fan would dream of getting. And Hurley has previous, scoring free tickets to the 7-0 win over Manchester United last year and the clash with Manchester City earlier this season from his ‘fairy godmother’.

But he has earned his luck. Not many would travel that far without any expectation of a ticket — Kastner, too, was all set to make the journey before he knew whether or not he would be able to make it into Anfield. And as anyone who has followed the Reds from any part of the world will know, communities form, and communities often have a way of coming through for you.

An image of Jürgen Klopp taken from behind the dugout by US-based Liverpool supporter Ryan Hurley.

Indeed, it’s a similar story from a little closer to home, although Dublin-based fan Robert Whelan admits the person who handed over two tickets to the famous Barcelona semi-final hasn’t got over it since! Whelan will take in another iconic match on Sunday, and will be attending Klopp’s farewell with his 12-year-old son, as the kind of passion that makes people cross oceans is passed on to another generation.

“I was ecstatic to get the tickets as no matter what, to get the chance to say goodbye to Jürgen, in person, is a privilege and one we’ll remember forever,” said Whelan, though he admitted he had at one stage harbored hopes of seeing Liverpool lift the Premier League trophy.

But while there will be no more silverware, the overwhelming message is one of gratitude for all that Klopp has done for the club. I asked everyone I spoke to for their message to the manager.

“I really have no way to put into words how grateful I am for the last nine years,” admitted Kastner. “It kind of feels like saying goodbye to a family member that has never met you! So, I'll just keep it simple: ‘Thank you, Jurgen.’"

How Liverpool players said goodbye to Jürgen Klopp and moment he burst into tears

“Thank you,” echoed Whelan. “You’ve given me the very best days of my life but beyond that you’ve made me a better person and a better leader in my workplace. You deserve the break and I wish you and your family nothing but the very best.”

Although Klopp might not have the most restful time away from the sport if Hurley gets his way. “I’d love a drink, I’d love to party with you for a week in Ibiza!

“But I cannot ask for anything else. You’ve made my dreams come true. Thank you.”

From Anfield to Alabama, Liverpool to Louisville, that simple message rings true. For those lucky enough to be in the stadium, wherever you’re coming from, make sure Klopp is made to feel exactly how much he means to this football club.

Taylor Swift's Dancer Honors Liverpool in Cute 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' Shoutout During Show

Swift performed her third and final Liverpool Eras Tour Show on Saturday, June 15

  • Taylor Swift's dancer Kameron Saunders continued his tradition Saturday
  • He changed up his "Like, ever" shoutout in the song to instead say, "Jog on, lad!"
  • The phrase is used by scousers — which is a colloquial term for people from Liverpool — and loosely means "get lost"

Taylor Swift made a sweet change to her final Eras Tour show in Liverpool.

On Saturday, June 15, during Swift's third Eras Tour show at Anfield Stadium, in Liverpool, England, the singer, 34, honored the city by incorporating a surprise twist to her song "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."

In footage posted on X (formerly Twitter), Swift's dancer,  Kameron Saunders changed up his "Like, ever" shoutout in the song to instead say, "Jog on, lad!" The phrase is used by scousers — which is a colloquial term for people from Liverpool — and loosely means "get lost." Saunders even adopted a Liverpudlian accent for the switch-up, much to the delight of the audience, who roared their approval.

The dancer is known for saying the phrase in the native language of where the performance is taking place — but he also made a special switch-up during Swift's first show in Liverpool to mark her 100th Eras Tour show.

In a video  shared on TikTok  from the Thursday, June 13, concert Saunders changed the shout-out to "for the 100th time, no."

Gareth Cattermole/TAS24/Getty

Earlier that day, which marked the 100th show of the tour, the Grammy-winner told the audience that her tour would be coming to a close at the end of the year.

"A lot of you are like, 'How are you going to celebrate the 100th show?' " Swift said to the crowd on June 13, per  fan-filmed footage . "The celebration of the 100th show for me means this is the very first time I've acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December."

"That feels so far away from now, but then again, it feels like we just played our first show on this tour because you have made this so fun for us," she continued.

"It's taken over everything. I think I once had hobbies, but I don't know what they were anymore because all I do when I'm not on stage is sit at home and try to think of clever acoustic song mashups," the "Fortnight" singer continued, referencing the "surprise song" acoustic set she plays for fans towards the end of every Eras Tour show.

The singer also stayed up late after the June 13 concert to tune into a livestream of the Kansas City Chiefs ring ceremony, where she watched her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his teammates receive their Super Bowl LVIII rings.

Swift tuned in to the livestream on Chariah Gordon’s  Instagram Live and shared her excitement in the comments section.

“JOINING THE PARTY FROM LIVERPOOL,” Swift wrote. “LET'S GOOOOOOOO!”

Swift's Liverpool shows were full of sweet moments, as well as performing mashups of “The Manuscript” and “Red,” as well as “Carolina” with “No Body, No Crime," by Evermore during her acoustic “surprise song” set  on June 15, the night before the singer delighted the audience with a rendition of the 2016 hit “This Is What You Came For” by  Rihanna  and Swift’s ex  Calvin Harris .

Her second show in the city also saw her praise the "beautiful" crowd in a sweet moment  posted on X  (formerly Twitter).

"I just want to say, on an individual basis, this is one of the most expressive, genuine, generous, beautiful crowds I've ever gotten to play for," Swift said.

"I've made so many best friends out here tonight, you have no idea," she added.

Swift continued, "I'm so lucky to get to play a show with people like you wanting to come to it. Thank you so, so, so much for that. I love you Liverpool. Thank you."

The pop superstar  first announced the Eras Tour in November 2022 , with 27 concert dates across the United States. Since then, she's added several additional legs to the tour including Latin America ,  Asia ,  Australia  and  Europe , as well as an additional North American leg.

"Just know that I appreciate every single ounce of effort that you've put into being with us when this tour reaches triple digits of shows — so thank you," Swift told the fans in Liverpool, the birthplace of the Beatles.

Ahead of her arrival in Liverpool, which marked her first-ever show in the city, Merseyside Police said they had been working for six months to “make sure the event is a safe one” in a video posted to X (formerly Twitter).

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming Taylor Swift and the Swifties,” Chief Superintendent for Liverpool Zoe Thornton told fans in the video. “We know Swifties look after each other so continue to do so.”

Following her three nights in Liverpool, Swift will next jet off to Cardiff, Wales, for her next tour stops.

The Doobie Brothers Launch 2024 Summer Tour: Set List and Video

The Doobie Brothers began their summer tour on Sunday evening in Los Angeles.

Though they’ve been off the road in the United States since late January, the Doobie Brothers were well-primed for this current trek after a series of shows played overseas this month opening for Eagles .

Their 19-song set, as expected, leaned heavily on hits from the group’s initial ’70s heyday, including classics like “Black Water,” “China Grove” and the set-closing “Listen to the Music.” The Doobie Brothers also left plenty of room to chronicle later successes with vocalist and keyboardist Michael McDonald like “Takin’ It to the Streets” and “Minute by Minute” from later in the decade.

You can view fan videos from the concert, as well as the set list, below.

They’re Excited to Be Back With Michael McDonald

The Doobie Brothers initially revealed plans to reunite with the five-time Grammy Award-winning McDonald in 2019 to celebrate the group’s 50th anniversary. The combination proved to be such a success that they’ve continued to work and tour together. “I love playing with Mike. It’s great,” vocalist and guitarist Tom Johnston tells UCR. “He’s a great talent, a hell of a singer … good keyboard player too – and fun to hang out with. So there’s not really a lot of downside to that.”

Blues legend Robert Cray is opening the first half of the tour, a pairing that Johnston has really been looking forward to. “Robert is badass – a great blues player and singer,” he says. “We played with him and his band a while ago. So I’m really looking forward to reconnecting.” Steve Winwood , who Johnston calls “mind-blowing,” will share the stage with the Doobie Brothers on the second part of the outing, beginning July 30 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Fans can also look forward to a new album from the Doobie Brothers sometime soon. It will be their first full-length studio project with McDonald since 1980.
