Choices, choices, choices: so many ways to explore Agincourt Reef with Quicksilver Cruises

Our family is typical of most traveling family, in that we all come to activities like visiting the Great Barrier Reef with different experiences and different expectations. The best thing about going to the reef with Quicksilver is that each participant can get up close with the amazing sea life on Agincourt Reef, regardless of how they prefer to do it.

As the most confident swimmer of the family, I was eager to jump in and explore everything. On a boat of 440 people, I was probably the tenth in the water. I had considered trying out scuba diving, but instead opted for the advanced snorkel tour ($80 supplement) for a few reasons: it was half the price, I’d have more time in the water since I didn’t need any instruction and I’d be able to hear the explanations from our Marine Biologist guide, Jade. It turned out to be a great choice! I’d never done a guided snorkel tour before, but Jade took us far from the pontoon and showed us things we wouldn’t have seen on our own like giant clams, clownfish and even two types of sea turtles. For those who are new to snorkeling, there’s also an introductory tour that moves at a slower pace.

Ronnie also enjoys snorkeling, but he wasn’t as interested in going far out (and someone had to play the responsible adult). He chose the most popular option, which is self-guided snorkeling from the edge of the pontoon. All of the gear is provided: Lycra suits to protect from stingers, snorkels, masks and fins. At your leisure, just suit up and jump in! Unfortunately he caught the afternoon swells, but he still saw some amazing fish. One advantage of just snorkeling on your own is that you can lay around at a relaxed pace rather than keeping up with a group.

Our littlest team member, Shoshana, had been getting a feel for snorkeling further down the east coast of Australia in protected coves and rock pools (like the great ones we visited on our Sapphire Coast roadtrip – check it out here! ). She was chomping at the bit to dive in and find Nemo herself. Unfortunately she wasn’t able to find his anemone home in the designated snorkeling area next to the Quicksilver pontoon, but she did see quite a few other fish – including some as big as her! Nevertheless, she was totally unfazed and had a great time.

I was extremely impressed at how well-stocked Quicksilver was for kids. Shoshana is a petite 3.5yo, but didn’t even wear their smallest stinger suit. They had an ample supply of kid-sized masks, snorkels and fins (never mind that we’d been carrying her toddler sized mask and snorkel until just a week prior – chalk that up to another packing mistake we made). She’s probably about the smallest size that would fit the child masks, so you may want to bring your own if going with a tiny one – check out our favorite snorkel gear for kids at each age . The pontoon staff were extremely helpful in getting her fitted for gear and even helping to get some of it on – check out Shoshana with her new friend Akiko!

If your child is already comfortable swimming and snorkeling and is ready to learn how to SCUBA dive, start by reading this excellent guide to learn the whole process.

Jacob preferred not to go in the water this time around, but we didn’t want him to miss the magic of the reef. Quicksilver was a great choice for him! He spent the whole day buzzing around the pontoon between the semi-submersible boat, the underwater observation area and the snorkeling deck to keep an eye on whichever family member was in the water.

A packed itinerary with Quicksilver Cruises

Check-in for your cruise begins at 9am and we were among the first there – and good thing, because if you arrive closer to departure the queue can be quite long! There are several shops in the same area of the marina that are open along with restrooms, so Ronnie hopped over to secure our spot in the boarding queue while the kids and I roamed around. At 9:30 the boat opened for boarding, and we quickly rushed upstairs to snag a table. We visited during Chinese New Year and I do not recommend it – our cruise had a whopping 440 people on it, which is about the max capacity. We’ve heard that there are usually half as many people, which would definitely be better.

great barrier reef cruise to quicksilver port douglas pontoon

The ride itself was quick and smooth. While on the boat heading out to the pontoon, we were solicited several times for various additional paid options, and we actually took advantage of some! In addition to the advanced snorkel tour I mentioned above, we opted to rent an underwater camera for $72. On the one hand, I’m glad we did it to have the underwater photography (especially this one awesome picture of Shoshana, which means the world to me!); however, it would have been cheaper and probably better to buy a budget action camera in advance to bring with us. We knew that in advance but opted not to bring an extra piece of gear in our already-heavy bags. (We definitely made some mistakes in packing, and you can laugh at them all here. )

My biggest frustration with the camera is that when we received the photos, I realized that the camera was set to show the time and date stamp – that setting just shouldn’t exist in the era of EXIF data and digital photography, and if I’d known I would have asked the extremely nice photo staff to turn it off in advance. Overall the photo quality was pretty good.

great barrier reef cruise to quicksilver port douglas pontoon

Jade, one if two resident marine biologists on board, gave an excellent presentation during the boat ride covering some of the basics of the reef, its inhabitants and their collective threats and challenges. It was a bit hard to hear upstairs, so we headed down to the front of the boat and sat on the floor in front of her. Unfortunately most of the other passengers did not speak English and thus talked over the non-translated presentation, so we were glad to be close to hear her, to see the screen and to ask plenty of questions. The kids had learned a lot about the reef in advance via some great educational resources and were ready to answer all of Jade’s questions!

We arrived at the pontoon around 11:30 and I made a beeline for the stinger suits and fins, while Ronnie and the kids hustled over to the semi-submersible (take the stairs rather than the ramp to get around faster). No matter what you’re told on the boat, expect a 10 minute wait to get your stinger suit, we they have to be re-racked by size before the staff even starts to hand them out. There are plenty available in all sizes, so it’s only a rush if you’re scheduled for an activity right at the beginning.

Also note that everyone just leaves their backpacks sitting on the benches all day and it’s fine – no need to worry about theft from everything I’ve heard. Pro tip: your family’s “official” photo will be taken atop the semi-submersible . Even if you’re doing the snorkel tour that supposedly leaves immediately, if your family is near the front of the semi-sub line you should have time to go sneak into the photo! Sadly I watched Ronnie and the kids take their photo from 20ft away as I waited for my tour, not realizing I could have popped over – still dry – and been in it. Bummer!

great barrier reef cruise to quicksilver port douglas pontoon

From your arrival at the pontoon at 11:30, your time is your own until roughly 2:30 when everything begins to shut down. But there are so many activities available that the time goes fast! Ronnie and I traded off time on the pontoon since we had the kids with us. I was in the water from 11:45 to 1pm, while he and the kids rode the semi-sub, hung out in the underwater observatory and ate lunch. Once I returned, we got him and Shoshana suited up and in the water (sadly that took long enough that I missed the firm 12-1:30 lunch window, but there was a plate of assorted cold food available).

great barrier reef cruise to quicksilver port douglas pontoon

While they swam, I had my lunch and Jacob alternately kept me company and snuck down to the underwater observatory next to our table (yes, kids must be supervised at all times…). As soon as I had finished eating, Shoshana was done snorkeling (around 2pm) and I rushed around getting Shoshana’s gear put away (kid gear all goes in one area, but their stinger suits go back with the used adult ones) and then getting the two of us dry and changed. Before I knew it, it was 2:30 and everything was starting to close up! Sadly, no semi-sub ride for me (though the family assures me that I got the better end of the deal with my advanced snorkel tour). Ronnie stayed in to snorkel the swells until 2:45 and then got himself changed while the kids and I returned to the boat for cheese and crackers.

The return ride was a bit more challenging than the outbound ride had been. Thanks to a driving rain and rough seas no one was using the outdoor seating. Unfortunately with such a packed boat (again, don’t go during Chinese New Year!) there weren’t enough seats for everyone. Someone was kind enough to give up his seat for the kids to share, but a few of us ended up standing for the whole boat ride. So my advice if you’re looking for a Great Barrier Reef reef cruise from Port Douglas is to reach out to Quicksilver and choose their least busy date during your time in the area.

Overall our family had an amazing day on Agincourt Reef with Quicksilver Cruises, and it’s definitely one of the top things to do in Port Douglas and Cairns. Our only challenge was that we could have used an extra hour to really explore the pontoon’s many offerings, though your family may not face the same issue if everyone goes into the water at the same time. The next time we’re in the area – which we hope won’t be too long in the future, we hope to spend the day on one of Quicksilver’s smaller partner boats. They offer a more intimate experience and allow you to visit multiple dive and snorkel sites in one day, with even more time in the water. The downside for families with young children is that those boats don’t have a semi-sub or an underwater observatory – the real strengths of going out on Quicksilver’s pontoon. But next time we visit we’ll have older children, and hopefully everyone will be game to spend the whole day floating around amongst the fish!

What to bring on your Quicksilver Cruises reef tour

Don’t bring much! Almost anything you need is provided.

-Swimsuit (it’s best to just wear it)

– Sunscreen for your face (since the rest is covered with a stinger suit)

– Microfiber travel towel

-Change of clothes

– Wet/dry bag to keep everything separated

– Sunglasses for your time out of the water

-Flip flops (I’m currently on my third pair of these great ones after a decade as a devotee)

– Budget action camera for underwater pictures (or go fancy and splurge for the GoPro )

-Snacks for the kids

-If you’re visiting with young children, you may want to bring snorkel gear that  you know will fit them

-If you’re visiting during “stinger season” as we were, there’s no need to bring your rash guard/sun protection shirt as you’ll be wearing a stinger suit the whole time and most of the pontoon is shaded. That said, I picked up a new Rip Curl rashie in Australia and it’s so comfortable that I don’t mind wearing it as a regular t-shirt! Check out their great styles here .

Our favorite Great Barrier Reef educational resources

We spent a lot of time getting the kids pumped up for our visit to the reef and we’re glad we did! They’re both budding naturalists, so they approached the experience with excitement, wonder and a pretty thorough understanding of the reef and it’s endanger status. Here are some great resources for homeschoolers and other nature-loving families:

– This Youtube video is a great introduction

-Amazon Prime offers several episodes of PBS Kids’ excellent Wild Kratts that explore animals living on the reef (in particular, check out Season 2, episode 18). If you don’t have an Amazon Prime subscription, try it  free for 30 days – we love it enough that we’ve kept ours active just for streaming while we’re traveling full-time.

-We read the entire Race the Wild series as a family read-along during our many road trips (check out the other things we do to stay sane). The second book sees Team Red competing out on the Great Barrier Reef, and it offers a good mix of compelling narrative and contextual education.

The Great Barrier Reef is truly one of the world's treasures and absolutely the best thing to do in Queensland. Quicksilver Cruises offers the most complete way to see the Great Barrier Reef from Port Douglas - and they have amazing ways for kids to see the reef too! #Australia #Queensland #Cairns #PortDouglas #GreatBarrierReef #familytravel #travel #travelwithkids

I love snorkeling trips, we have some planned for our upcoming caribbean trip, but obviously the great barrier reef would be the ultimate! I have had good luck with honestly the little $15 disposable underwater cameras. I am thinking about upgrading my digital to something that is water proof! NEver seen stinger suits before! but does help with sun protection!

Wow, this is amazing and very informative post, Now I want to go Australia even more!

The Great Barrier Reef

Clown fish on The Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is an extraordinary natural wonder that captivates millions of visitors from around the world every year. With its massive size, diverse marine life, and breathtaking colors, it's no wonder that it's the only living structure visible from the moon with the naked eye.

The Great Barrier Reef is Big! The Great Barrier Reef is massive, with an area larger than Ireland and Great Britain combined. The Reef isn't just one reef, but thousands of different reefs, some of which are several kilometers long. Each reef is separated by a vast, vivid blue sea, which owes its color to the fact that there are minimal particles floating around in it.

The Diversity of Life The Great Barrier Reef is home to an incredible diversity of marine life, with 1500 different species of fish, 350 different types of coral, 6000 species of crustaceans, 5000 species of mollusks, reptiles, and marine mammals. The colors of the coral and marine creatures are mind-blowing, and each one serves a purpose, such as warning predators or marking cleaning stations.

Best Time Of Year To Visit The Reef

snorkeling on the reef

Port Douglas offers a fantastic getaway throughout the year, thanks to its warm tropical climate and a variety of outdoor activities. The region experiences two distinct seasons: the 'wet' and the 'dry', which are often referred to as the 'green' and the 'dry' due to the lush rainforests that surround the area. Don't be discouraged by the 'green season,' as it has its own unique beauty.

The Green Season | December - April The green season typically begins with the first monsoonal rains in December and lasts until April. During this period, 75 to 90% of the annual rainfall occurs, accompanied by high humidity. Average temperatures range from 24°C to 33°C (75°F to 91°F).

The green season is a dramatic and stunning time when the flora and fauna of the tropical rainforests come alive. The rainfall is vital for the rainforest's existence. This period is particularly exciting for nature lovers and photographers as the tropics are at their most beautiful, with waterfalls flowing abundantly.

Great Barrier Reef tours welcome the gentle winds at this time of year. You are more likely to experience a “glass out conditions” in the green season due to the low winds. Glass out conditions offer optimal visibility and make for ideal snorkelling & diving on the reef. The calm waters allow for clear views of the underwater world, making it easier to spot marine life, admire vibrant corals, and appreciate the reef's beauty in its full glory.

The Dry season | May to November The dry season, from May to November, brings lower humidity, clear skies, and pleasant temperatures both day and night. Average winter temperatures range from 19°C to 24°C (66°F to 75°F). Less chance of rain gives visitors more options when planning a Reef Tour. You might even spot whales during their migration on your way to and from the reef.

This period corresponds to the peak tourist season, attracting visitors seeking a respite from the colder southern states. Families, especially during school holidays, are advised to book tour to the reef in advance as we have up to 50% more visitors during this time of year.

We had a lovely day out on the cat, Food was good Just poor visibility of the coral and fish , a little disappointing . Would recommend to go to the reef if you really want to snorkel.

Geoffrey Dale

Great crew, looked after everybody extremely well, brilliant day out!

Ryan Turner

I had a great time on the Poseidon. The thing that stood out to me most was the excellent staff. They were incredibly friendly, funny, helpful, knowledgable, and fun to be around. The gear they give you is great, the spots they take you to are beautiful (not too much bleaching), and the food is tasty. I went on a day when the boat was at less than half capacity (only 30-something passengers) so it made for easy communication between crew and passengers along with short food and drink lines. I definitely recommend the Poseidon Cruise.

Maxine Schofield

We had a fab day the 4 grandchildren were just amazed at the experience have not stopped talking about the swim the dive the fish etc
One of the best experiences of my life. The snorkelling was sensational. The small number of people on the boat made this trip very special, we had personal interaction with Steve and Charlotte. The lunch on board was fabulous. Loved the sail home! Good short tour around the island. A very special day!

Bernard Doughty

Need to be active and fit with good swimming to get best from visit by snorkelling. Sub was very good as was underwater view. Buffet was good but a bit rushed. Too much hard sell on trip. Take lycra suit option for water.

Great trip with a lot to see. Well organized and informative.

To be able to visit the Barrier Reef was just great. We 6 pax could go only with Experience Oz's excellent ticket price. Thank you. Everything was very well organized and explained. Enough snorkel equipment on board. Good food.

Amazing place to be and need to do things. Best of all.

My lifetime experience, won’t miss it from any case. Life would have been incomplete without this I would say . Must to do and Experience Oz has help me with this experience as ever. Best of all and lifetime memories. Love to be with this company and experience.

Superb experience even on a cloudy and rainy day.

There is no need to persuade people to go and see the GBR. All I would add is that you should not let a dull or rainy day put you off. We booked when the weather forecast was cloudy and rainy. As we went out to sea the water was a bit choppy but once we got to the pontoon the weather cleared a little. And in the water the fish certainly don't mind some bad weather! Staff were friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great experience.

Port Douglas Great Barrier Reef Tours - Snorkeling - Diving - Helicopters

Now for a bit of information on the Port Douglas Outer Great Barrier Reef location where the Quicksilver boat travels to our floating pontoon for your day of snorkeling and scuba diving adventures.

Agincourt Ribbon Reef is situated on the very edge of Australia’s Continental Shelf.

This area is 39 nautical miles (72 kilometres) from Port Douglas and is situated opposite the World Heritage Daintree Rainforest, and this of course means you will have pristine water clarity and visibility all year round.

As Quicksilver was the first company to provide Great Barrier Reef tours daily, they have chosen two of the best locations for the placement of their Outer Barrier Reef snorkeling pontoon platforms and to this day they are still the only platform on the very outside edge of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef from Port Douglas.

The Boat Ride To The Great Barrier Reef

Getting out to the reef is almost as exciting as actually being on the Great Barrier Reef.  The reef trip boat is what we call a wave piercer and with the torpedo shaped multi hull this vessel actually does pierce the waves giving a smooth floating like feeling on your journey to the Great Barrier Reef which is perfect for those that experience sea-sickness.

This Port Douglas reef tour company is also very conscious of the environment and the flagship vessel underwent a complete refit on the engines which cost around $3 million to ensure it was not impacting the reefs eco system.

This enabled carbon emissions to be reduced by about 20%. Now that’s money well spent to ensure our future generations can also enjoy our beautiful rainforests and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Agincourt Ribbon Reef Port Douglas Floating Pontoon Activities

Upon arrival to the Great Barrier Reef tours pontoon it is a big decision what to do first.

Our suggestion is to do a semi submersible submarine tour first and then have a look at the underwater observatory on the platform and get these activities completed while you are still dry and it also means once you get in the water you don’t have to get out again.

These two under water activities are included in your reef trip ticket price. They are also a great option for people who still want to see the Great Barrier Reef without getting wet so non-swimmers line up and book this Port Douglas reef trip.

Semi Submersible Submarine Tour

The  Semi Submersible submarine   tour is a fantastic experience that takes 25 minutes and includes an informative commentary on the reef and the marine life inhabitants on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

The Semi Submersible Submarine tours depart every fifteen minutes from the pontoons rear platform.

As it name describes you walk down stairs to the seating in the base of the semi submersible floating submarine which has Perspex windows for you to witness all of the marine life that swim by, the beautiful corals along with the underwater activities such as the divers floating around on the bottom of the ocean.

From here you will see turtles, fish, divers, snorkelers and an amazing array of coral outcrops, bommies and the marine life that inhabit the differing coral structures.

The driver controlling the semi-submersible submarine is up top and fresh air flows thru the semi submersible submarine.

You may join this tour as many times as you like during the day which is a great way for the non swimmers to see the Great Barrier Reef.

Marine Platform Underwater Observatory

Our underwater observatory is located in front of the platform and this is a great place to check out the “first time” scuba divers trying out the introductory scuba diving classes.

It’s even better if you know some of the guests doing the introductory scuba diving classes as you can take photographs for them.

And don’t forget that not only the scuba divers and snorkelers can be viewed from here an abundance of  tropical species of fish can also be viewed from the observatory and again this is a great place for the non swimmers to regularly visit during the day to watch all of the Agincourt Ribbon Reef pontoon underwater activities.

Snorkeling The Great Barrier Reef

All snorkeling equipment is provided on the platform from various different sanitization storage containers and the boats crew will look after and assist you in choosing the right gear for you.

It is super easy to get in the water from the submerged platform. Our crew are always there to offer you assistance with snorkelling equipment and provide you with a few tips for snorkelling.

You will find it very easy to snorkel of course and if you or your children are having a bit of trouble keeping afloat or are a bit nervous then there are various flotation aids available for adults or children from the crew.

You will also find long lines of rope or guidelines and floating rest stations which are great to take a break if you are starting to feel a little fatigued.

Snorkelling for the first time? Read our Travel Tips for Snorkellers

Great Barrier Reef Tour Optional Extras

Optional Extra Great Barrier Reef Activities

There a number of different optional extras that our Port Douglas reef trip offers and it is strongly recommended that they are booked at the time you book your Great Barrier Reef tour to avoid disappointment.

Introductory Scuba Diving  – something you have to try at least once in your life and there is no better place than Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.  No experience is necessary the only requirement is that you are over 12 years of age and pass the on board medical questionnaire.  We conduct a scuba dive briefing which takes about 30 minutes and this is conducted on the way out to the reef.  All equipment is provided including wetsuits, and prescriptions masks if required.  All dive instructors are PADI qualified and there are even multi –lingual scuba diving instructors available on request.

Are you a first time introductory scuba diver? If yes then be sure to read our Travel Tips for scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef before you go.

Certified Scuba Diving  – We are sure if you are a certified scuba diver that you could not go past diving on this most pristine part of the Great Barrier Reef where both the marine life and visibility is excellent.  Certified scuba divers can partake in up to 2 dives. Guided Snorkeling Adventures  - There are two types of snorkeling adventures to experience one being for those with little snorkeling experience and the other for the advanced snorkeler these trips are all guided by an experienced Marine Biologist who can show you and explain some fantastic areas of the Great Barrier Reef and its inhabitants.

Scenic Helicopter Flights  – There is no more awe inspiring way to see the reef than by helicopter.  You will obtain a different perspective of the reef and be given an insight into the sheer size of the Great Barrier Reef.  We highly recommend to stretch that budget just a little more for a 10 minute scenic helicopter flight that is so amazing as it takes you up over the coral reefs systems you have actually snorkeled and the surrounding reefs.  We have personally done this trip a couple of times and even in this short duration the amount of marine life sighted from the Helicopter is amazing, turtles, manta rays, white tipped reef sharks and lot’s more.

If you want to experience a bit more then of course there is the ultimate way to get the reef and that is by Helicopter. Flying out to the reef pontoon and then cruising back by boat to Port Douglas.

This can be done in reverse order of course. This is an exciting adventure to either start or finish the day and of course there is also the option to fly in both directions. Imagine the photography you will have to show your friends.

Note: Infant age 3 must pay for a seat

Meals Are Incuded on all Great Barrier Reef Tours

Morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch are served on the Outer Barrier Reef pontoon during the day.

Lunch is a superb hot and cold tropical buffet, which includes fresh prawns, pasta, meats salads and fruits.

There is also a full bar facility where drinks can be purchased during the day.

Coach Transfers

From the moment the luxury air conditioned silver coach arrives to pick you up from your Cairns or Port Douglas holiday apartment hotel or resort accommodation its time to sit back, relax and enjoy the drive watching the beautiful scenery go by.

If you are lucky enough to be holidaying in Cairns or the Northern Beaches you are in for a spectacular trip along some of the most beautiful coastal scenery in the whole of Australia.

The road to Port Douglas is one of the most highly photographed journeys in Australia so make sure your camera is on hand.

Port Douglas Reef Tour Caters For Disabled Guests

The only Great Barrier Reef tour to cater for guests in wheelchairs. We cater for guests who may be disabled or in a wheelchair by the installation of a hydraulic powered lift on the back of the pontoon that gently lifts the guest down into the water.

This allows the guest to swim directly off the hydraulic lift chair to snorkel and explore the Great Barrier Reef at your own pace.

The necessary floatation equipment is provided giving disabled guests the same opportunity to experience the azure waters of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef in comfort and safety.

Read our tips and hints for travellers who may have a disabiity here.

Please note: Do not make a booking online if you are in a wheelchair and have a travel companion. Speak to The Tour Specialists team first to confirm availability. Tours are to be confirmed 24 hours prior to depature as the boats and pontoon platforms may have changed making it inoprable for disabled guests.

Great tour. Too bad we had heavy rains but didn't stop us from enjoying and snorkelling. Not enough shrimp on lunch for everyone. Some people took large amounts before everyone ate and they ran out. Shouldn't advertise them if you are going to run out.

Thanks for your feedback Richard, sorry about the prawns - it must have been a hungry crowd at he Outer Reef that day as the buffet on board Quicksilver is certainly large! We are pleased you enjoyed your time on the Reef and made the most of the snorkeling. The Tour Specialists look forward to welcoming you back again to enjoy all the Far North Queensland has to show!

Your dive instructor will take you down slowly on guide ropes to a depth of maximum 12 m where they will then take you on a dive tour and show you the colours of the many fish and the various corals that are home to many marine creatures we may have never seen before whilst snorkelling.

Your introductory scuba dive will last approximately 30 minutes.

Certified Scuba Diving

You can choose how many certified scuba dives you would like to do (up to 3) all from the activity platform.

All dives are gentle and relaxing with maximum depth 18 m (60ft).

Despite diving from the one pontoon, there are various dive sites that can be accessed, so you don’t have to worry that you will be seeing the same sights on all dives.

Your dive will be led by an experienced dive instructor or dive master that know the dive sites well.

These professionals can find all the best marine life and show you the best of the Great Barrier Reef.

This trip is ideal if you wish to go for a dive, yet worried about leaving behind your family members who aren’t divers.

Great Barrier Reef Scenic Helicopter Flights

The ultimate way to see the Great Barrier Reef is by booking a helicopter fly and cruise tour.

Leaving Port Douglas enjoy a low level scenic helicopter flight across the coral reefs and out to the Agincourt Ribbon Reef Platform where you may then snorkel and dive the same and see it in every other way possible.

You will simply be stunned at the site of this beautiful place from the air in your helicopter seat.

Your helicopter will be flying at 500 ft (150 m) above the Agincourt Reef system.

The natural beauty of the place will take your breath away.  You might even see shadows of sharks, whales , turtles, dolphins and rays as they go about their business below.

Helicopter flights must be pre-booked beforehand as seats and helicopters are limited.

Note: Infant age 3 must pay for a seat

If you wish to avoid the catamaran journey back to Port Douglas, you can also book a return helicopter flight back to Port Douglas or Cairns !

Guided snorkel tour with marine biologist

If you wish to make your snorkelling experience more alive and more meaningful, then understanding and learning about the marine life you are seeing on a tour with a guided marine biologist can add to your Great Barrier Reef experience.

Your marine biologist is a qualified university degree scientist and they will share their love of the marine kingdom with you on this snorkel tour.

You will be in a small group so it will be a highly personal learning experience.

There are two different snorkel tours offered to enable all visitors, regardless of their skill levels to enjoy and learn about the amazing Great Barrier Reef.
