Can Indians Get a Brazil Visa on Arrival?

No, Indian nationals cannot obtain a visa on arrival in Brazil. They must apply for a visa beforehand through the Brazilian consulate or embassy in their home country. The process involves submitting the required documentation and possibly attending an interview, depending on the type of visa applied for.

Visitor Visa (VIVIS) :

  • Granted for tourism, cultural, educational, sports, or recreational activities, family visits, media/film coverage, and crew members joining aircraft or vessels.
  • Also applicable for travellers in transit through Brazilian airports when booked on separate tickets or under different codes.
  • Other cases include performing voluntary work, engaging in research, academic activities, seeking health treatment, and adopting a Brazilian minor.

Business Visa (VIVIS) :

  • Issued for attending meetings, fairs, business events, conducting audits or consultancy, and performing voluntary work.
  • Suitable for individuals partaking in research, learning, academic extension activities, working aboard cruise ships or as aircraft crew, and those involved in maritime activities on foreign-flagged vessels operating in Brazilian waters.

Transit Visa (VIVIS) :

  • Required if you have separate tickets for inbound and outbound flights. Not needed if traveling under a single booking with all segments and carriers clearly stated and remaining in the transit zone.

Study Visa (VITEM IV) :

  • Necessary for foreign students attending regular courses or participating in exchange or internship programs, including non-academic or language courses.

Family Reunion Visa (VITEM XI) :

  • Available to those married to or direct relatives of Brazilian nationals or foreigners with a Brazilian residence permit, including minor siblings or financially dependent siblings over 18, and guardians of Brazilian nationals. Not granted to sponsors already holding a family reunion visa or provisional residence, including asylum seekers.

Artist and Athlete Visa (VITEM XII) :

  • For performing artists and athletes, including support staff, who receive payment from a Brazilian source, requiring contract approval by the Brazilian Ministry of Labour. The sponsor must arrange all contract-related aspects before the visa application.

These summaries encapsulate the primary purposes and requirements for each visa type, streamlining the visa application process understanding.

  • General guidelines: The photograph must be taken from the front, against a white background. No reflections, shadows, or glasses are allowed. The dimension of the photo must be 35mm x 40mm.
  • Face: Face and shoulders must be centred on the camera. The person must be looking right into the camera. The face should have a neutral expression with the eyes open and visible.
  • Eyewear: If you wear glasses, the lenses may not reflect the ambient light or the camera. Dark glasses or non prescription glasses with tinted lenses, or thick frames, are not acceptable in the photograph.
  • Headwear: Headgear or hats are also not allowed, except when used for religious reasons. They can not, however, prevent a perfect view of the face of the applicant.
  • For Children: Children should not be photographed with toys, pacifiers, or hands of people holding them.

  • Business Visa (VIVIS) : Similar to the tourist visa, it can be valid for up to 180 days with multiple entries. Each stay generally must not exceed 90 days.
  • Temporary Visas (such as VITEM I-V, including student and work visas) : The validity varies based on the activities to be performed and the duration of the project or employment contract in Brazil. These visas can be from a few months to a few years.
  • Family Reunion and Other Long-term Visas : Validity depends on the specific circumstances and may allow for extended or indefinite stays, with the potential for conversion into permanent residency based on Brazilian regulations.

For the most accurate and specific information, it is advisable to check with the Brazilian consulate or embassy from which the visa will be issued, as visa policies and regulations can change.

The cost of a Brazil visa for Indian citizens varies based on the type of visa:

  • Visitor Visa (VIVIS) : The fee is INR 8,000.00.
  • Temporary Visa (VITEM I, III, IV, V, VII, XI) : The fee is INR 10,000.00.

Payment Method : The only accepted method of payment is through a non-refundable identified bank transfer or deposit into the designated RBL Bank account. Specific details for payment will be provided to the applicant once the application is ready to be processed.

Important Points :

  • The bank transfer must be made directly from the applicant's personal bank account.
  • The applicant's name must appear on the Embassy’s bank statement as the originator of the funds. It is not sufficient for the name to appear only on the transaction receipt.
  • Payments from agents or third parties, where the applicant's name does not appear in the Embassy's bank statement, will not be accepted. Additionally, any unidentified payments cannot be refunded.

It is crucial for applicants to ensure that their name is clearly indicated on the bank transfer to avoid complications with the processing of their visa application.

However, the exact time can vary depending on the type of visa, the specific requirements of the local Brazilian consulate, and the individual's circumstances. Brazil visa policy.

Brazil operates a very robust visa policy used by the government to determine foreigners who can enter the country with and without a visa. Most visitors will need a visa in advance if they wish to visit Brazil, but persons from visa-exempt countries don't need a visa. Depending on their nationality, they can visit the country for up to 90 days with their passports or identity cards.

Visa-exempted nationals are limited in what they can do in the country, from transit to business, sports, and artistic events. Furthermore, Spanish citizens can also visit Brazil without visas, but they must hold flight tickets to and from Brazil, Proof of accommodation or a notarized letter issued by their host, and a minimum amount in cash per day to cover their stay there.

The visa policy allows transit visitors from any country to pass through, but they must remain in the international transit area of the airport they are using. If they must leave, they must apply for a transit visa.

Electronic Visa

The electronic or online visa is issued to visitors through their verified email addresses.

This online visa eliminates the need to visit the embassy to get a visa. E visas allow the holder to stay in Brazil for up to 90 days, and it has two versions. One is the single-entry version, valid for just 90 days, and the multiple-entry version, valid for 2 years from the issue date.

Indian missions around the world issue India tourist visas for those that require a visa to enter India. Most nationalities are eligible to apply for an e-Visa or Visa on Arrival. But there are a handful of nationalities that are not eligible. These nationalities must apply for a tourist visa at their nearest Indian embassy or consulate.

Nationalities that are eligible for India e-Visa or India Visa on Arrival are also eligible to apply for an Indian tourist visa from their nearest Indian embassy or consulate. There may be occasions where a tourist visa from the embassy is a better choice than an India e-Visa or India Visa on Arrival . For example, US nationals can get a 10-year tourist visa from the embassy vs an Indian e-Visa which is only valid for 5 years. So a tourist visa from the embassy is a better choice in this case.

There are three types of tourist visa categories T-1, T-2 and T-3. T-1 is for tourists. T-2 is for tour groups and T-3 is for cruise passengers.

How to apply for Indian tourist visa from the embassy?

The India tourist visa application is a two-step process.

STEP 1: Online Application

Step 2: appointment.

The first step in the Indian tourist visa application process is to fill out an online application on the India visa portal .

If you are a family or group, each person must complete one online application form. There is no family application. Similarly, each person must schedule one separate visa appointment for document submission.

In the online application, you must select the Indian embassy/consulate where you plan to apply for your visa.

After filling out the application, you must print and sign it.

If the Indian embassy/consulate did not outsource the visa application to a visa application center, then you can walk into the embassy/consulate any day to pay the fee and submit your visa application.

If the Indian embassy/consulate has outsourced the visa process to a visa application center, then you will have to go to the visa application center’s website and schedule an appointment. You may be able to pay the visa fee while scheduling the appointment.

On the day of the appointment, you must submit your completed and signed application form, photographs and original passport. You must also pay the fee if you haven’t while scheduling the appointment.
