What are the best AAU teams?
There are a lot of different AAU teams throughout the United States. So, what are the best AAU teams?
There are many different factors that go into deciding what the best AAU teams are. Some of the factors include the level of competition, the quality of the players, the coaching, and the facilities.

Is AAU better than travel?
AAU basketball is a popular choice for young basketball players. It offers exposure to top college coaches and the chance to play against top competition. However, is AAU basketball really better than travel basketball?
There are pros and cons to both AAU basketball and travel basketball. AAU basketball can be a great way to get exposure to college coaches and to play against top competition. However, there can be a lot of pressure to win, and sometimes the competition can be too intense.
Travel basketball can be a great way to learn the game of basketball. Players have to work harder to earn playing time, and they learn how to compete against better competition. However, travel basketball can be expensive, and it can be difficult to find teams that are the right fit for your child.
In the end, it is up to the parents to decide what is best for their child. Both AAU basketball and travel basketball have their pros and cons.
Is AAU the same as travel basketball?
AAU and travel basketball are both competitive youth sports organizations. However, there are some key differences between the two.
AAU is a national organization that offers competitive basketball opportunities for boys and girls of all ages. Travel basketball is a term used to describe a competitive basketball league or organization that is not affiliated with the AAU.
Travel basketball leagues typically have more competitive teams and are more selective in their player pool than AAU leagues. Travel basketball teams also typically play in tournaments outside of their local area, which can require extensive travel.
AAU basketball is more widely known and offers more opportunities for players to compete at all levels. Travel basketball leagues are generally more rigorous and focus on developing elite players.
So, is AAU the same as travel basketball?
No, AAU is not the same as travel basketball. AAU is a national organization that offers competitive basketball opportunities for boys and girls of all ages. Travel basketball is a term used to describe a competitive basketball league or organization that is not affiliated with the AAU.
What are the best AAU basketball tournaments?
The best AAU basketball tournaments are ones that offer a great competition level, while also providing a great experience for the players. There are a number of factors to consider when choosing a tournament, but the following are some of the most important.
Competition level is key. The best AAU tournaments will have teams from a variety of states or regions, providing a challenging competition for your team. Look for tournaments with a good mix of teams at all levels, from beginning to elite.
The tournament location can also be important. If your team is traveling a long distance, make sure the tournament is worth the trip. The best tournaments will have plenty of amenities nearby, such as hotels, restaurants, and shopping.
Tournament organization is also important. Make sure the tournament is run well, with plenty of well-marked fields and courts, good referees, and knowledgeable staff.
Finally, make sure the tournament offers a good overall experience for the players. This includes things like good facilities, a variety of activities for players and families to do, and plenty of opportunities for team bonding.
The following are some of the best AAU tournaments in the country, based on all of these factors.
The Peach State Classic is one of the top AAU tournaments in the country, with teams from all over the country competing. The competition level is high, and the amenities are excellent, with plenty of hotels and restaurants nearby.
The Las Vegas Classic is another top-rated tournament, with teams from all over the world competing. The competition level is very high, and the facilities are top-notch. There is also a wide variety of activities for players and families to enjoy in Las Vegas.
The Big Shots Virginia Beach tournament is another great option, with a high level of competition and excellent facilities. There is also a wide variety of activities available in Virginia Beach for players and families.
The King James Classic is a top-rated tournament in Ohio, with a great competition level and excellent facilities. This is a great option for teams in the Midwest.
The Rumble in the Rockies tournament is a great option for teams in the Western United States. The competition level is high, and the facilities are excellent.
What AAU team did Lebron play for?
LeBron James was born in Akron, Ohio and played basketball for St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. After high school, he was selected first overall in the 2003 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron played for the Cavaliers for seven seasons before joining the Miami Heat in 2010. He won two championships with the Heat and then returned to the Cavaliers in 2014.
LeBron played AAU basketball for the Northeast Ohio Shooting Stars.
What AAU team did Kobe play for?
Kobe Bryant played for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team, Lower Merion High School, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Lower Merion team is a part of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA).
Is AAU basketball expensive?
In recent years, AAU basketball has exploded in popularity. Many parents view AAU as a necessary stepping stone to getting their children recruited by Division I colleges. However, is AAU basketball really worth the high cost?
The answer to that question depends on your perspective. For parents who are willing to pay for the best coaching, the best facilities, and the best competition, AAU basketball can be a great investment. However, for parents who are not willing or able to pay those high costs, AAU may not be worth it.
One of the main benefits of AAU is the higher level of competition. AAU teams typically play against other AAU teams from across the country, which can be a great opportunity for kids to test their skills against the best players in their age group.
Another benefit of AAU is the opportunity to play under better coaches. Many of the top coaches in the country are involved in AAU, and they can offer valuable instruction and guidance to young players.
The downside of AAU is the cost. Participation in AAU can be expensive, especially if you want your child to have the best possible experience. Coaching fees, facility fees, and travel costs can add up quickly.
So is AAU basketball worth the high cost? It depends on your situation. If you can afford it and you think your child will benefit from playing against better competition and under better coaches, then AAU is a good option. However, if you can’t afford it or you think your child would be better off playing for a lower-cost team, then AAU may not be the best choice.

Breaking down Alabama’s 2024-2025 men’s basketball roster
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WHNT) — Mark Sears and Jarin Stevenson’s decision to withdraw their names from the 2024 NBA Draft on Wednesday night finalized Alabama’s 2024-2025 basketball roster.
With the return, Nate Oats and the Tide will have one of the most talented rosters in the country as they look to make it back to the Final Four.
The Muscle Shoals native was the glue to the Tide’s Final Four run last season. His return solidifies a deep backcourt and may have been Nate Oats’ biggest recruiting win of the offseason. Sears gives the Tide a go-to scorer, averaging 21.5 points per game last year.
Grant Nelson
Nelson struggled throughout last season but showed flashes that should have Tide fans excited to see what he can do in another offseason in the program. With the additions of a couple of big men, Nelson will likely move to the stretch four next season. He averaged 11.9 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game in his lone season in Tuscaloosa.
Latrell Wrightsell
Wrightsell started 12 games for the Tide last year and was highly effective from beyond the arc. He shot a team-best 44.7 percent from three-point range, the fourth-highest average by an Alabama player in a single season. The Tide were 10-0 when Wrightsell Jr. scored double-figures.
Jarin Stevenson
Stevenson was still supposed to be a senior in high school last season but instead appeared in 37 games for the Tide. He averaged 5.3 points per game and 2.7 rebounds per game. Stevenson was the last Crimson Tide player to pull his name out of the NBA Draft.
Mouhamed Dioubate
Dioubate appeared in 33 games for the Tide last year, mainly in reserve minutes. He was a four-star prospect in 2023 out of Putnam Science Academy.
Chris Youngblood
The hometown kid elected to spend his final year of eligibility with Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide. Youngblood committed to Kennesaw State out of high school, where he played three seasons for then-Owls coach Amir Abdur-Rahim. When Abdur-Rahim was hired by South Florida before last season, Youngblood followed his coach and played for one season for the Bulls.
He averaged 15.3 points per game on 45% shooting including 41% from three-point range in his lone season at USF.
Cliff Omurouyi
Omurouyi was highly sought after when he entered his name into the transfer portal this offseason. His addition to the roster gives the Tide a big man who had 72 blocks a season ago, good for 15th best in the country. Omoruyi averaged 13.2 points per game, 9.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks for Rutgers a season ago.
Houston Mallette
Mallette transferred to Alabama from Pepperdine, where he played three seasons. The guard averaged 14.7 points per game and shot 41% from beyond the arc last season.
Aden Holloway
Undoubtedly adding fuel to the bitter Iron Bowl rivalry, Holloway transferred to the Tide from Auburn. He was highly recruited out of high school but struggled in his lone season on the Plains, shooting 30% from the floor.
Holloway will look to improve his shooting in Nate Oats high-scoring offense, but if he doesn’t figure it out quickly the minutes may dry up on a roster filled with scoring guards.
High School Recruits
Darron Reid
Reid is Alabama’s second highest-rated recruit in program history behind Collin Sexton, according to 247Sports. ESPN ranks him as the fourth-highest recruit. He was recently named to the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team.
Aiden Sherrell
The 6-10 big man was rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports. He was a McDonald’s All-American.
Naas Cunningham
A 6-7 small forward, Cunningham was rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports.
Labaron Philon
At one time in his high school recruitment, Philon committed to Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers. The Mobile native then committed and signed with the Kansas Jayhawks before being released from his letter of intent. He ended up signing with Alabama and is another highly-rated guard.
Philon was rated as the No. 3 point guard in the country and a four-star prospect by 247Sports.

Date Announced for Alabama Basketball's Meeting with Purdue
Blake byler | may 30, 2024.
Alabama basketball officially announced its future home-and-home series with the Purdue Boilermakers that will begin this upcoming season. The two teams will play in West Lafayette this fall, with the return game in Tuscaloosa during the 2025-26 season.
The first meeting between the two teams will take place on Friday, Nov. 15 at Purdue's Mackey Arena, Purdue announced. It will be a very early test for both teams, coming before either team plays in their Thanksgiving week MTE.
The home-and-home also comes a year after the two teams played a one-off game in Toronto in December of the 2023-24 season, a game in which Purdue won 92-86.
Per usual with Nate Oats at the helm, Alabama has an incredibly difficult non-conference schedule on deck for the 2024-25 season. Alabama will take part in the Players Era Festival, an 8-team, NIL-based event in Las Vegas during Thanksgiving week where the Crimson Tide will play three of Houston, Rutgers, Texas A&M, San Diego State, Creighton, Oregon and Notre Dame. Alabama also has a home game scheduled with Creighton in the return game of a home-and-home, as well as a game against Illinois scheduled to be played in Birmingham.
In addition to the number of high-major teams on the schedule, Oats has also added some tough mid-majors in McNeese and Kent State to the non-conference schedule.
Alabama should be one of the favorites in the SEC heading into the season after bringing in an elite transfer portal class to pair with the No. 2-ranked recruiting class in the country.

How Alabama softball follows path set by football, basketball in WCWS
Alabama football set the script.
Look abysmal early. Drop the Texas game, play horribly against South Florida, convince fans and other onlookers that the season is destined for failure.
Then, figure it out. Beat LSU, pull off a 4th-and-31 miracle at Auburn , win an SEC championship over Georgia, make the College Football Playoff.
“Some teams need a longer runway to take off,” Crimson Tide softball coach Patrick Murphy said Saturday, ahead of his team’s Sunday Women’s College World Series game against Florida.
Murphy’s group also struggled at times this season. Even in the late going, it seemed as if the Crimson Tide might be destined for a short postseason.
Alabama stumbled to a losing record in SEC play. It fell in its first SEC Tournament game, dropping 3-2 in extra innings against LSU.
Then it turned on the jets, just like the football team. Not just Nick Saban’s final Alabama squad either, the men’s basketball program’s first Final Four appearance followed a similar trajectory.
Nate Oats’ group lost close in early-season non-conference games. From the outside looking in, it didn’t seem like a group destined for March Madness success.
In January, Alabama had pulled together a six-game winning streak. Then it went to Knoxville, where the Volunteers dismantled the Tide, winning 91-71.
Afterward, Oats texted Murphy.
“He goes, ‘If they figure it out, we can go the the Final Four with this team,’” Murphy said. “That was his test. And I was like, ‘He’s crazy.’ And they did. They figured it out. Same with us.”
Alabama softball was the No. 14 seed in the NCAA Tournament, one of the last teams to get regional hosting privileges. It rolled through that round, beating UNC Upstate, then Southeastern Louisiana twice, punching a ticket to Knoxville for the super regional.
The Lady Vols were the No. 3 seed. They beat the Crimson Tide in Game 1, 3-2. Then, Alabama figured it out, first with a 14-inning win in the longest super regional game ever, then a 4-1 Game 3.
The ninth-place team in the SEC was heading to Oklahoma City.
“It’s just like a young person who might be an introvert,” Murphy said. “You don’t give up on them because they don’t talk, they need a longer runway to get going. And you’d be patient with them and you’d still coach them and teach them and all that stuff.”
That’s been the path since Saban and the football team first followed it. The man who won six national titles in Tuscaloosa arguably did his best coaching job with the 2023 Crimson Tide, a group that visibly improved week-to-week on the way to the Rose Bowl.
Murphy pointed out what was plainly visible in the 72-year-old. He was enjoying the season, finding happiness as he lived up to the title of coach.
Saban himself said as much.
“This is one of the most amazing seasons in Alabama football history,” Saban said just after his team fell to eventual national champion Michigan in his final game. “In terms of where this team came from, what they were able to accomplish and what they were able to do, winning the SEC Championship, and really, really proud of this group.”
Similar story in basketball. Oats had some help from Murphy on that one, getting motivational help from the softball coach, who taught the basketball squad his “mudita” philosophy, taking vicarious joy in another’s success.
By the time the Crimson Tide was deep into its NCAA Tournament run that culminated in the Final Four, the word was printed on shirts and was a topic players continually reached back to.
“Picking each other up, sticking together,” forward Jarin Stevenson said after the Tide upset North Carolina in the Sweet Sixteen. “You know the word, mudita. We try to follow that as much as we can. Joy for each other. I knew that we were gonna pull through, just because of that.”
Ahead of the WCWS, it was Murphy’s turn to ask for some help. He tasked Oats with speaking to his team, helping the softball Tide get ready to face the nation’s top teams.
Alabama lost its first game in Oklahoma City on Thursday against UCLA. Lose one more and the season will end.
Murphy’s group knew as much entering Friday’s game against Duke. The Tide came out on top in that one, 2-1, earning the right to keep playing.
At 2 p.m. CT Sunday on ABC, it will play Florida, once again facing elimination. The Gators took two of the three regular season games against Alabama during a series in Tuscaloosa.
But the Crimson Tide has cleared the runway since then. The group is playing its best softball at just the right time, following the script written by its football and basketball compatriots.
“We persevered,” Murphy said before Alabama’s first game in Oklahoma City. “We got through it. Nobody quit. It was one of the most enjoyable teams to coach because they didn’t quit. Now we’re here. We’re going to relish every second because there’s no bad day at the College World Series.”
