It depends on their location, level of experience, and contract terms, but a travel CNA typically earns about 1.6 times more than a CNA with a full-time, permanent position. As of February 2023, travel CNAs earned an average of $37.43 per hour, compared to $14.56 per hour for CNAs with permanent jobs .

As of February 2023, CNAs completing travel assignments in California were earning an average of $1,792 per week, which works out to $44.80 per hour for 40 hours of work. The average travel CNA in Colorado is $1,492 per week, or $37.30 per hour. Travel CNAs in Washington earn an average of $1,280 per hour, which averages out to $32 per hour for a 40-hour workweek.

Even if you accept an assignment in a high-paying state, your travel CNA salary may vary significantly from one city to another. For example, the average weekly rate in Spokane, Washington, is $1,746, but it’s only $1,485 in Medical Lake, Washington, which is just 14.5 miles away.

Average Hourly and Annual Earnings of Travel CNAs

As noted earlier, travel CNAs earn an average of $37.43 per hour in the United States. Normally, you’d multiply your hourly rate by 2,087 to determine your annual salary . Because travel nurses complete short-term assignments, however, you may not work as many hours each year as you would in a full-time, permanent job. To calculate your annual earnings, multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours worked.

Here’s an example:

• You work 360 hours at one assignment, 400 hours at another assignment, and 520 hours at a third assignment.
• Your hourly rates are $34.52, $37.01, and $35.83, respectively.
• Multiply 360 by $34.52, 400 by $37.01, and 520 by $35.83.
• In this case, your annual salary would be $45,862.50, just over 51% more than you’d make working full time.

Travel CNAs earn significantly more per hour than CNAs in permanent positions, but you should know that many travel jobs don’t include benefits. A travelling CNA generally refers to a CNA who travels to the home of clients (much like a traveling nurse).  Sometimes travelling CNA refers to certified nursing assistants who travel to more than one healthcare facility in their area to provide services.  The duties of a travelling CNA are much like the duties of every other nursing assistant.

Some nursing assistants like to work as a travelling CNA.  They have the opportunity to work in more than one setting.  They get to interact with multiple patients and clients.  The day is never likely to get boring.  Some travelling CNAs get to work in more than one location in the same day, which helps the day to go faster.  A travelling CNA has a chance to make a difference in the lives of many people.

A travelling nursing assistant will often make more money than a CNA who works in a single location.  The nursing assistant is compensated for the fact that he or she must travel to more than one place for work during the day or week.  He or she is also paid more income since they need to balance the care of patients in more than one location.

Some travelling nursing care agencies also pay their CNAs some mileage fees to cover the cost of their travels from one location to another.  They might be compensated in some way for the time that they spend traveling to and from the homes of clients each day for work.

On average, a travelling CNA will make $25,000-30,000 per year.  This is about $13-$15 per hour for a 40 hour workweek.  Many nursing assistants who are not travelling CNAs start out making $10 or $11 per hour.  Some nursing assistants will make even more money working for a travelling agency.

A travelling CNAs salary can depend on many factors.  Some travelling agencies pay more than others.  A certified nursing assistant is likely to earn more money with more years of experience.  The number of patients that a travelling nurse sees each day or each week can have an impact on the salary. It is often possible for a travelling CNA to get in overtime hours.  This is especially true for CNAs with multiple clients (in the home health setting).  If a travelling CNA works overtime, their earning potential increases even more.  The amount will depend on the rate for overtime (whether it is straight time or whether the individual is paid 1 ½ times or more their regular salary.  Individuals who are ill need care 365 days per year.  Travelling nursing assistants often need to work on holidays which can provide the potential to receive additional pay as well.

Some travelling CNA agencies provide benefits for their nursing assistants as part of their salary package.  These benefits might include things like paid time off, life insurance benefits, retirement accounts or even health insurance benefits.  Certified nursing assistants who do not receive these benefits will often earn a little bit of a higher salary to compensate for the fact that they do not receive benefits.

They have told me in the beginning that the job would pay between $10 and $15 dollors,now there saying $10 dollors an hour which I dont think is a fair wage,and I do have experience too! Please contact me as soon as you can if you could as i will be discussing this topic monday morning.I figure I,ll tell them what I am willing to take monetarly and if they cant or wont make the appropriate change to my houly rate than they,ll have enough time to hire someone else who will work every weekend night and day ,holidays and weekends,no benefits either for $10 bucks an hour!!!

Hi Audrea, You are obviously entitled to a higher salary commensurate with your experience and the work you’ll be putting in. I have just passed my CNA exam and I am very interested in becoming a Traveling CNA. I trained with the Red Cross and I am certified in all areas. I know I am a recent graduate but I am willing to work very hard and I am a fast learner. Also traveling as a nurse aid would be exciting and I would get the chance to work in different environments with different people doing different things.

First of all in the US you must be a legal citizen to be certified and also speak English. You must have a clean background and no drug intake ( illegal drugs). So many people think because they have a certification they will be hired.

Many CNAs are lousy inservice and only do it for$. You have to be passionate and truly care about the residents, patients or clients…… So tired of people claiming they are a CNA and they truly just only passed a test….get real

How rude. I have been certified 20 years. Many times I have seen new CNA’s have more motivation and caring than the one’s certified for years. I did staffing for my nursing department for 5 years . We hired many new CNA’s from our local CNA school and they made great employees and care givers.

I am an unlicensed CNA – so not really a CNA, just a plain old HHA. I could probably take the CNA test and pass it, I just haven’t bothered. I have done this work for 10 years, and I am truly passionate about it. I have taught others how to do it, and keep a list of other home health aides who meet my criteria as superior Home Health Aides (Almost like a little agency, but not for my profit). I have many impeccable references. I have assembled teams to work on patient cases, and then lead those teams. We always make $15-$20 per hour. Your services are needed, and should be appropriately valued.

I have been a CNA for 17 years. I make 14.00 an hour . I live in nw Iowa. I came to work as a CNA because I wanted to care for the dying like Mother Theresa did. However, the longer I do this job the more the new residents act like asses. They have been spoiled so bad and expect one on one service. Most of the ones with full mental capacity are worse by far. And don’t get me started on the families. Holy cow!

I travel as a CNA and make no less than 1000. per week. I just took my next assignment for 1367. per week. Honestly, I don’t know anyone who travels for less than 15/hour plus per diem. Why would they? Whoever told you CNA’s make 25,000 per year is ill-informed. I make 72,000 per year because I am good and I have experience in all areas of healthcare. Travel jobs aren’t all low-paying…just so you know.

I am a CNA I received my certification back in “07” here in Virginia I moved back home to Philly that same year my VA certification was transferred to PA. My Certification is still in good standing doesn’t expire until 11/21. My dilemma is that I recently moved back here to VA a few weeks ago and I am trying to transfer my certification back here to VA. I was told that since my VA license expired in 2009 I would have to get it reinstated. Is this true? Would I have to take the exams all over again? Or is it possible for me to get it transferred here in the state in of VA?

Certified nurse assistants can boost their salaries in a number of ways, including:  

1. Advance Your Education

The education required to become a CNA takes between four and twelve weeks, and once certified, you can immediately begin to work.  

Any nurse who is interested in earning a higher income can use their CNA certification as a foundation for further education, moving on to take online or in-person classes to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). You can even use it to earn an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) to become a Registered Nurse . 

Additionally, CNAs can take continuing education classes required to maintain certification and pursue certifications targeting specialized care skills that make them more valuable to their employer.  

2. Negotiate

Though most CNA positions have pre-established hourly wages, the historic nursing shortage has given skilled candidates greater leverage to negotiate for a higher pay rate. 

If human resources are unable to increase your salary, they may have flexibility on hours or benefits, including tuition reimbursement or commuting expenses.   

3. Seek a Different Practice Setting

Some practice settings are more demanding than others, and as a result, they pay higher wages. You can also leave hands-on care to work in an industry like insurance, which pays certified nurse assistants higher salaries. 

4. Become a Travel CNA

Travel health agencies pay healthcare professionals significantly higher wages than care facilities in exchange for their willingness to relocate to a new setting for an established period of time. 

Traveling certified nurse assistants can receive higher wages, more generous benefits, referral bonuses, and travel and housing stipends.   

5. Change How You Work  

Working per diem means that you are paid by the day based on the employer’s needs and your availability. These positions generally do not provide benefits, but they pay a higher hourly wage.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station  was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.

10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.
