Does deck level matter?

Cool Cruiser

I have always been on deck 2, but I'm looking at booking and I see some cabins in my price range on level 4,6,8 and 9. I was wonder where can I find the pros and cons of being on each level? This is for an interior or ocean view.

I always try to book between stateroom decks - never under or over the pool, spa, restaurants, bars, theater, etc.

We mostly book on deck 1 or 2, midship. If we have the choice to get another deck, I would choose 8 because it’s right below lido deck where all the activities are. Or deck 6 which is right above promenade . You do want to be careful about being close to casino, above or below, above because of the smoke and below because of the noise late at night. Same thing with nightclub and below decks like the pool. Deck 9 would be ideal if you are not below outside decks because you can walk right out into activities. The bad thing is if you are an early sleeper and not really into the deck parties and movies or if you liked to relax in your cabin during the day. We have stayed on other decks but mostly 1 or 2 because of the quiet. Another good thing about being on the lower decks is the movement is minimal especially if mid ship and when you get on from ports, you can walk right up the stairs. Also the dining rooms are just one floor up too. We mostly book ocean view rooms too.

Depends on which ship you’re looking at. We were offered an upsell to a spa deck cabin on the Liberty and it was a fantastic cabin. One deck down to the pool and the Lido buffet. I think we’d do that again given the opportunity. Typically we book cabins on deck 6 or 7 in order to have cabins above and below us.

the higher on the ship, the more motion you feel.

For me, I'm more concerned about being in the middle, close to stairs and elevators. Everything is stacked, so to me I don't really care what deck. If there is a certain room I want it might make a difference.

Totally agree!

Also not too close to elevators or atriums as the sound can reverberate down the hall

lizardhowson

Lido deck- always !!

I detest waiting for the elevators.

We prefer Lido deck as well. convenient to the pool areas, buffet and bars and usually have cabins above and below us. A plus for us too is that we enjoy feeling the ships motion, especially when it's time to sleep.

Don't most ships have three sets of stairs and elevators, toward the bow, the stern, and midships?

chefjellynow

chefjellynow

We prefer aft balconies. The only movement you feel is slight side to side, not up and down. Cruising on a deck 2 aft balcony in july.

The vibrations on port morning from the thrusters just vibrate the room for 30 seconds to 2 min.

We always try and book between cabin decks to reduce the chance of noise above or below us. We actually prefer a lower deck mid-ship for less motion. It also is usually only 1-2 decks up to get to the dining room, theater, etc. and 1-2 decks down to get off the ship in ports. We also use the stairs most of the time, so elevator waits are not an issue for us.

I use this site to see the pros and cons of a specific cabin:

We just had a room on Breeze...INTERIOR on Deck 7. Didn't hear a thing. Quiet day and night.

A few years ago had a room on Glory....INTERIOR on Deck 6, right over Casino...music vibrated our room every freakin' night. First couple of nights it woke us up (we go to bed 10-11 every night depending on excursions). Well, after that we were so pooped from excursions we never heard the music after we got in bed each night.

Twice we have had Balcony rooms on Deck 6, forward. Can hear the Playlist rehearsals if you take an afternoon nap sometimes. Other than that, didn't hear a thing.

We don't use the elevators usually, prefer to use the stairs. But we have never been able to hear the elevators ding no matter where we were on ship.

5,000+ Club

I've stayed on 8 in my last two. I liked it because I could very quickly run to the room and back up top if need be. I hate waiting for the elevators

You Me & the Sea

You Me & the Sea

We always book deck 7 midship. Cabins above and below and midship to lessen any motion. It's not too too high, but high enough to have great views from our balcony. Especially arriving/departing ports or watching for sea life.

h_blond2

I prefer the lower decks because I am prone to motion sickness and I feel less movement in the lower cabins.

BallFour4

We just don't feel the movement up front on the lido deck. I'd take a lido balcony for every cruise. Recently we took a lower level, aft cabin window room in a corner. Never again. We shook so much the bathroom door would vibrate so bad I had to use a wash towel to hold. On the sea days when we pushed it hard to make port the entire cabin bounced. After 36 cruises I'll never do that again.

If you wanted an inside cabin I'd take lido, up front for every cruise. We have placed our daughter and her friends across from us in those cabins for lots of cruises with no problems in seasickness.

ray98

No...it doesn't matter. The perceived motion for sea sickness is the most overblown myth on the web. The amount of time you spend walking is the only difference.

i book as close to the action (theatres, pools...) as possible. Never a noise issue.

riclop

Look at the deck plan , you don't want to be below the pools or buffet or MDR's.

I prefer as midship as possible and in between decks of cabins. Personally, I don’t see much benefit to just being on a higher deck. An extended balcony is great, but not if it puts me in a bad location.

TNcruising02

The best location I have ever had on a cruise was the lido deck on my last cruise. It was very convenient to the pool area and buffet. I felt like I hit the cabin location jackpot with that room.

Thanks, I have always like the fact that The dining room was so close, and I could easily walk up to my room when returning from port. But I have always hated going all the way up for the buffet and pool. How can you tell if you have a ro0m the you can easily walk out to the pool from?

dmdiver

Lido is my favorite deck, since we spend most of our time out there. If Lido is unavailable, I look for a cabin with other cabins above & below. I've not noticed any difference in motion from deck to deck.

Carnival Vista cruise ship

Carnival Vista deck plan review at CruiseMapper provides newest cruise deck plans (2024-2025-2026 valid floor layouts of the vessel) extracted from the officially issued by Carnival Cruise Line deckplan pdf (printable version).

Each of the Carnival Vista cruise ship deck plans are conveniently combined with a legend (showing cabin codes) and detailed review of all the deck's venues and passenger-accessible indoor and outdoor areas. A separate link provides an extensive information on Carnival Vista staterooms (cabins and suites), including photos, cabin plans and amenities by room type and category.

Carnival Vista (2016-built, first refurbishemnt in 2019, last refurbished in 2024 January) is one of the newest Carnival cruise ships - together with the fleetmates (sisterships) Carnival Horizon (2018) and Carnival Panorama (2019). Vista-Class (Fincantieri-built) sisterships are also the former Costa Cruises ' liners  Venezia (2019) and Firenze (2020).

Carnival Vista cruise ship deck plan shows a total of 1965 staterooms for 3934 passengers (max capacity is 4716) served by 1450 crew-staff. The boat has 14 passenger-accessible decks (13 with cabins), 25 lounges and bars, 10 restaurants/food bars, 3 swimming pools, 6 outdoor Jacuzzis (4 cantilevered), 16 elevators.

Carnival Vista decks with passenger cabins have a total of 72 Suites, 880 Balconies, 293 Oceanviews, 678 Inside cabins, Self Service Laundromats (passenger use launderettes). Laundry facilities are at extra-charge – $3,25 (per washer or dryer load) and $1,5 per box (detergent/water softener, dispensed from the vending machine in the room). Launderettes (open between 6:30 am – 12 midnight) are located on all cabin decks. Each laundry room is equipped with 2-3 washers, 2-3 dryers, 1 ironing board/iron. All laundry machines are coinless (can be operated using S&S cards only). While the ship is in port, washing machines are closed (only dryers and irons can be used). Valet laundry service is handled through the cabin steward. Prices are per item – wash-and-press ($2 – $7,50) and dry-cleaning ($3 – $10,50).

With the 3x Vista-class liners (Vista/2016, Horizon/2018, Panorama/2019) were introduced the fleet-firsts "IMAX Theater at Sea" (87-seats cinema/part of Carnival Multiplex), "SkyRide" (outdoor/aerial bicycle ride/suspended 2-track bike course), Havana Staterooms (cabin complex with a swimming pool, sundeck, lounge, lanai balconies).

The Vista cruise ship has all the popular Fun Ship 2.0 features as dining and entertainment options, but also many new ones, like:

  • the first at sea IMAX Theater (with 2 screens) – at extra charge
  • the first at sea roller coaster (SkyRide)
  • high-powered outdoor activities, including an outdoor gym (SkyFitness)
  • Carnival Multiplex entertainment
  • new dining options and bars (more casual dining choices)
  • new cabin types
  • new “luxury resort” complex (Havana)

Carnival (NYSE:CCL) Undertakes Major Portfolio Rejig

C ruise line operators continue to ride the tide of strong demand and buoyant booking levels this year. The trend has prompted Carnival Corp ( NYSE:CCL ) to undertake a strategic portfolio realignment that is set to boost its Carnival Cruise Line brand.

Boosting the Carnival Cruise Line Brand

Carnival, the largest cruise company globally, is boosting the capacity of its Carnival Cruise Line brand by absorbing the P&O Cruises Australia brand into its operations next year. This strategic move expands Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet by five new ships. Additionally, CCL has ordered two new Excel-class cruise ships, which are expected to join its fleet in 2027-2028.

The portfolio expansion comes on top of a 25% increase in Carnival Cruise Line’s capacity since 2019. Moreover, the phasing out of the P&O Cruises Australia brand, and its subsequent absorption into the Carnival Cruise Line brand, is expected to bolster CCL’s performance in the South Pacific. This improvement in performance is anticipated on the back of operational efficiencies. These will stem from the larger Carnival Cruise Line brand’s more streamlined operating and regulatory costs. Notably, CCL commands a nearly 60% market share in the Australian region with 19 ships.

Meanwhile, the strategic changes to the P&O Cruise brand in Australia do not impact P&O Cruise U.K., which is a separate brand dedicated to the U.K. market.

What Is the Price Target for CCL Stock

Carnival’s shares price is up by nearly 30.2% over the past year. Overall, the Street has a Strong Buy consensus rating on the stock, alongside an average CCL price target of $22. This points to a further upside potential of 37.4% in the company’s share price.

  • River Cruise Ship Evacuated, Danube Shut Down Amid Historic Flooding

high waters on the danube river in budapest hungary in 2023

Updated June 7: Updated to identify the ship that was evacuated as the Tui Isla, a Tui River Cruises vessel.

Around 140 passenger were evacuated from the Tui Isla on the Danube River in Southern Germany early this week. Simultaneously, Austria has shut the river down to all traffic. This amidst historic flooding that led Germany to declare a state of emergency on Monday.

According to reports passengers from the United States, the U.K., and Australia were removed from the ship, which had been stuck in place since Sunday.

Rain has been heavy for several days in southern Germany, with some regions – particularly Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg – experiencing heavy flooding. Several people have died, including a firefighter involved in rescuing a family, MSN reported .

According to DPA International , Austria shut down the entire 350 kilometer course of the Danube within its borders between the border cities of Passau in Germany and Bratislava in Slovakia. The closure, the report stated, forced "some cruise ships" to dock in Linz. The Danube burst the banks in Linz on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the state waterway company, Via Donau , said "Safety cannot be guaranteed above a certain water level."

Hungary is also expecting trouble, with the mayor of Budapest issuing a flood alert (first-degree, lowest level) on Tuesday. The lower embankment of the river in Budapest is expected to close to traffic from 8 p.m. on Thursday.

TMR reached out to river cruise lines to find out how their sailings have been impacted. At least one -- Avalon Waterways -- has already made the decision to cancel two sailings.

"The Danube is experiencing higher-than-average water levels, due to an unprecedented amount of rain in the last month. This week, we made the decision to cancel two cruises on the lower Danube, due to ship access and availability," Pam Hoffee, president of Avalon Waterways, told TMR.

The canceled sailings are the June 7 Balkan Discovery sailing and the June 13 Active & Discovery on the Lower Danube departure.

"For both, we provided cruisers – and their travel advisors – options, recognizing the inconvenience" Hoffee said. "Other cruises departing this week on the upper Danube are experiencing itinerary deviations. Our operations team is constantly monitoring the situation and making any necessary updates to accommodate the conditions while ensuring the best possible experience for our guests."

Viking directed TMR to its website and the following statement: "Currently, sections of the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers are experiencing high water levels. To varying degrees, these conditions may affect select itineraries. Our Switzerland-based nautical team is continually monitoring the situation and will make any necessary adjustments to accommodate the conditions. Guests and their Travel Advisors will continue to be notified directly if we think that their itinerary might be impacted."
