Have you been thinking about travelling to Turkey from Pakistan but don’t know where to begin? If so, this comprehensive guide is meant just for you.

There’s a reason why Turkey has always been one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Straddling Eastern Europe and Eastern Asia, this culturally-rich nation has seen numerous empires rise and fall. In fact, the history of this region can be traced back to the prehistoric era, some 5 million years ago.

Here are some of the most popular neighbourhoods where you can stay during your trip to Turkey.

Two of the most tourist-friendly areas to stay in Istanbul are Beyoğlu on the European side of the river and Sultanahmet on the Asian side. Given their proximity to important attractions and markets, the hotels in these areas might charge a little more. However, you’ll save quite a lot of money on buses and cabs if you choose to stay here during your trip to Turkey from Pakistan.

Furthermore, Beyoğlu houses the popular Istiklal Street, a haven for shoppers, while Sultanahmet is close to the Grand Bazaar, the biggest covered market in the city.

Depending on your budget, you can either decide to book a hotel in Old Town or the Lara neighbourhood.

While the Old Town district boasts some of the most historic monuments in the city along with sprawling markets and bust streets, Lara is home to five and seven-star hotels close to the ocean. Moreover, it’s also pretty close to the Antalya Airport and Mall of Antalya.

The two most popular neighbourhoods in Ankara include Ulus and Kizilay.

While Ulus is the best choice for budget travellers who want to stay close to the commercial centre, Kizilay is a trendy and upscale neighbourhood housing a number of boutiques, restaurants and cafes. Regardless of which of these two areas you select, you won’t have a hard time finding a place to shop during your trip to Turkey.

Cappadocia has a large number of cave hotels that will transport you to the Stone Age – but with all the modern amenities, of course.

If you are looking for a place to stay in Cappadocia, browse through the hotels situated in Goreme and Urgup. Both of these towns offer beautiful views along with a range of hotels, market areas, boutiques, souvenir shops, restaurants and cafes, to name a few. Furthermore, most of the tour companies are also based out in these areas.

So, there you go. Whenever you sit down to plan your trip to Turkey from Pakistan, don’t forget to take these suggestions into account. Moreover, make sure to visit at least some of the tourist attractions listed above during your time there.

Türkiye Lifted Visa Requirements For The U.S., Here's Everything Confirmed So Far About Visiting In 2024

  • US travelers can now visit Türkiye visa-free, thanks to a recent presidential decree.
  • However, starting in 2025, US passport holders will need to apply for authorization through the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) before their trip to Europe.
  • For the best experience in Türkiye, it is recommended to spend 10 to 14 days exploring the diverse landscapes and cultural richness of the country.

A US passport is a valuable tool for anyone wishing to travel the world, as it grants visa-free entry to more than 180 countries , according to the Henley Passport Index . The world's top destinations are now visa-free for American tourists, and that includes Türkiye as of 2024.

Here's Everything You Should Know About 2023's Most Powerful Passport

Holders of U.S. passports have enjoyed visa-free access to the majority of countries worldwide , and this list recently expanded. A presidential order, published in Türkiye’s Official Gazette , eliminated the need for a visa to enter Turkey for citizens of six nations, including the US .

Here is everything US travelers need to know about visa-free travel to Türkiye going into 2024.

Travel To Türkiye Visa Free

For 2024, us travelers don't need a visa to visit türkiye.

Following a December 22, 2023, presidential decree signed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, foreign citizens of Bahrain, Canada, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Saudi Arabia are no longer required to obtain a visa to enter Turkey for up to 180 days of travel.

The visa requirement for these nationals was previously $61.50 to $78.50 US, depending on the applicant's nationality.

  • Visa-free travel to Türkiye began December 23, 2023

It's worth noting that Türkiye's government can change visa requirements, including their applicable duration, at any time. Travelers should always check for the most updated rules and requirements before booking a trip.

Will US Citizens Need A Visa To Visit Europe In 2024?

For 2024, the EU's visa rules aren't changing, but come 2025, the EU is moving to a new system.

American passport holders will have to apply for authorization through the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) before their trip to Europe starting in 2025.

An ETIAS allows up to 90 days of temporary access into European nations over 180 days. An ETIAS does not, however, ensure automatic admission. A border guard will check to see if US travelers match the requirements for admission when they arrive.

For now, Türkiye is not included in the ETIAS requirement, as it is not part of the EU.

As Of The End Of 2023, These Passports Are The Strongest In The World

How many days are enough to spend in türkiye, touring the entire country takes months, but two weeks is a perfect period.

Turkey's vast size may require extensive travel between its renowned tourist destinations, making tours the most convenient option for most travelers.

Tours allow U.S. vacationers to capitalize on the new decision and visit Turkey without a visa, focusing on relaxation and sightseeing while someone else manages travel arrangements, including lodging and transportation. Additionally, tours often include stops at the best Turkish destinations , eliminating the need for separate day trips. During the visit, travelers will have access to a tour guide to explain the incredible sights along the journey.

Exploring Turkey's diverse landscapes and cultural richness is a journey that unfolds best over 10 to 14 days. This recommended duration affords travelers the luxury of delving into a myriad of Turkey's famed towns, historic landmarks, and pristine beaches.

First-time visitors are encouraged to focus their exploration on the captivating western region of Turkey, where a tapestry of highlights awaits discovery.

In a two-week span, adventurers can immerse themselves in the vibrant Turkish metropolis of Istanbul , revel in the ancient wonders of Ephesus , and bask in the coastal allure of Bodrum. The historical marvels of Troy and the picturesque panoramas of Pamukkale present additional treasures to uncover during this enriching journey.

For those with a more generous allotment of time, the option to extend the voyage into the lesser-explored eastern region emerges. Here, the mesmerizing landscapes of Cappadocia and the ancient charm of Gaziantep beckon, offering a deeper dive into Turkey's culture.

Alternatively, savvy travelers seeking a balanced mix of exploration and relaxation can strategically divide their sojourn between two distinct locations. Picture a seamless blend of the bustling energy of Istanbul and the coastal serenity of Antalya.

Ankara, the capital city , with its historical significance, or the enchanting allure of Fethiye and Marmaris on the southwestern coast, presents captivating options for a dual-location escapade.

To maximize the adventure, day trips to nearby sites and immersive explorations of these cities can be seamlessly incorporated into the itinerary.

  • Number of recommended days: 10 to 14 days

Since travel to Türkiye is now easier than ever for US-based travelers, travelers might decide to stay much longer than two weeks, up to the 180 days permitted!

Middle East latest: Netanyahu 'gives defiant two fingers' to Hamas deal - as US insists 'space for agreement to be reached'

Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed victory is within reach in Israel's war against Hamas, rejecting a three-stage ceasefire plan put forward by the militant group in response to Qatari and Egyptian mediators. But the US's top diplomat says there is hope an agreement can be reached.

As Benjamin Netanyahu dismisses Hamas's "delusional" counteroffer on a ceasefire, a group of former hostages released from Gaza have urged the Israeli government to prioritise hostage releases over the war with Hamas.

Sharon Aloni Cunio, who was released with her three-year-old twin daughters during the last truce agreement, said "abandonment will be a death sentence, a stain for generations".

Her husband David remains in captivity since they were snatched in Hamas's 7 October raids.

"We have reached the moment of truth," Ms Cunio said.

"The most terrible moment of all when you are destined to decide who is for life and who is for death, who will return and who will become prey to human animals."

Former hostage Adina Moshe, whose husband was killed by Hamas, said she was released but her friends still remain captive.

She said she suffered before she was let go, and fears her friends may not have survived.

Addressing the Israeli leader directly, she said: "I am turning to you, Mr Netanyahu. Everything is in your hands. I am very afraid and fear that if you continue with this line of 'collapse Hamas', there will be no prisoners left to release."

The US military says was behind a strike in Iraq that killed a "Kata'ib Hezbollah commander responsible for directly planning and participating in attacks on US forces in the region".

US Central Command said in a statement that its forces conducted the "unilateral strike" as part of the country's response to an attack on American troops in the region two weeks ago.

"There are no indications of collateral damage or civilian casualties at this time," the statement read.

"The United States will continue to take necessary action to protect our people. We will not hesitate to hold responsible all those who threaten our forces' safety," it said.

There's a "clear indication that the wheels have come off" the latest attempt to broker a ceasefire or pause to fighting, says our US correspondent Mark Stone .

There is a "remarkable gulf" between the positions of the US and Israel - two "apparently such close allies", he says.

"[Benjamin Netanyahu] effectively said that there is not a chance of a deal with Hamas, that there was no chance of a stopping of fighting.

"He even went as far as to suggest his forces would be moving into Rafah... now, compare that with what the Americans are trying to achieve.

"It was clear from the tone of what we heard from Anthony Blinken that there is a real difference," Stone says.

While Mr Blinken says there is space in Hamas's proposals for an agreement to be reached, Mr Netanyahu sees no such prospect.

"This is a remarkable gulf between two apparently such close allies," Stone adds.

He describes the tone of Mr Blinken as "pretty downbeat" during the news conference held in the past half an hour.

Benjamin Netanyahu was likely rejecting the "non-starter" elements of Hamas's ceasefire proposal with his remarks today, says Antony Blinken.

As we reported earlier, the Israeli prime minister dismissed Hamas's terms as he vowed to continue the war until "absolute victory".

"Clearly, there are things that Hamas sent back that are absolute non-starters and I assume that's what the prime minister was referring to.

"But I don't want to speak for him," Mr Blinken says.

The US's top diplomat says he has "suggested some ways" Israel can ensure civilians are protected while it carries out its offensive in Gaza.

Antony Blinken is responding to a question on whether the US will stand by if Israel moves into the southernmost city of Rafah, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have crammed.

"Israel has the responsibility, has the obligation to do everything to ensure that civilians are protected," he says.

"Any military operation that Israel undertakes needs to put civilians first and foremost and I suggested some ways to do that."

Pressed on what he means, Mr Blinken says he "went through a number of things" the US is urging Israel to do "in terms of both humanitarian assistance and civilian protection".

This is "extremely important" in Rafah as it has "such a dense population", he adds.

Earlier Mr Blinken said the number of casualties in Gaza from Israel's offensive was "too high".

Antony Blinken says he has discussed Hamas's ceasefire counterproposals with the Israeli government during his visit to Jerusalem today.

The US diplomat says while there are "some clear non-starters, it creates space for an agreement to be reached".

"We will work at that relentlessly until we get there," he tells the news conference.

The US is "intensely focused" on getting Hamas's remaining hostages "back with their families where they belong", says Mr Blinken.

He reiterates that Israel is "fully justified" in confronting Hamas after the 7 October attacks which saw Israelis "dehumanised in the most horrific way".

"But that cannot be a license to dehumanise others," Mr Blinken adds.

"The overwhelming majority of people in Gaza had nothing to do with the attacks of 7 October... we cannot, we must not lose sight of our common humanity."

The diplomat says the US is pursuing a path to lasting peace and security "for all in the region, and notably for Israel".

"That diplomatic path continues to come into ever sharper focus," he says.

US secretary of state Antony Blinken is holding a news conference after meeting Israeli leaders in Jerusalem today.

The conference had been due to begin at about 6.30pm UK time, shortly after Benjamin Netanyahu spoke, but was delayed.

Mr Blinken is in the region for the fifth time since 7 October to try to broker a ceasefire deal.

A three-stage deal proposed by Hamas was strongly rejected by the Israeli prime minister during his briefing - see more details of the group's plan in our post at 7.35pm.

A commander of the militant group Kata'ib Hezbollah has been killed in a drone strike in Baghdad, security sources have told the Reuters news agency.

A drone reportedly attacked a vehicle in the Iraqi capital earlier this evening.

Witnesses reported hearing at least two loud blasts in the city and videos showed a car on fire in eastern Baghdad.

Two sources said a Kata'ib Hezbollah commander was killed, while another said three people died in the apparent attack.

Kata'ib Hezbollah is an Iraq-based militant group thought to have ties to Iran.

This evening Benjamin Netanyahu has roundly rejected a proposed Hamas ceasefire plan, saying victory over the group is within reach and Israel will not stop until it is "eliminated".

What does the proposal entail?

The US has been working with Qatar and Egypt to broker a ceasefire that would involve a pause in fighting to allow for the release of hostages.

In response, Hamas proposed a three-stage ceasefire plan that would see the exchange of its captives for Palestinian prisoners.

The first phase would involve the release of Israeli women, the elderly and sick and young men, in exchange for the release of Palestinian women and children from Israeli jails.

Remaining male hostages would be released during the second phase, and bodies exchanged in the third phase.

Hamas is also calling for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

We brought you Hamas's response to Benjamin Netanyahu's rejection of ceasefire proposals a little earlier in the blog (see 18.26 post).

Another Hamas official, Osama Hamdan, has said a delegation for the militant group, led by senior official Khalil Al Hayya, would travel to Cairo tomorrow to pursue ceasefire talks with Egyptian and Qatari mediators.

Hamas's demands include a halt in fighting in Gaza for more than four months, allowing for the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

It also wants all Israeli troops to leave the enclave.
