Bryne is in Rogaland .

Bryne is the largest city in the Jæren region. It houses the administrative center for the Time municipality. Bryne is a city in an agriculture dominated area and have some of its agricultural roots intact, while providing the perks of a small city. Towns further south, such as Nærbø , Varhaug and Vigrestad are less diluted with people without agricultural background, typically from the Stavanger region, and may provide a more authentic insight to the original mindset, language and behavior of the area. Owing to its proximity to the "oil capitol" of Norway, Stavanger , several of the industries in the area are oil related.

Both local and express trains stop at Bryne train station. There are quite good bus connectivity to Sola airport, which is about 30 kilometers from Bryne.

There is a local taxi service in Bryne and several bus routes.

In the middle of Bryne city center there is a park with sculptures of Fritz Røed. Bryne Mølle is an old grain mill in the center of Bryne. It is nowadays used for art and events. Sandtangen is a recreational area by Frøylandsvatnet used for jogging and leisure. The area holds an exercise park. Have a look at the hand-made stone fences used in the area.

Explore the area. Bryne is often used as a base for exploring areas nearby, as it has good accommodation and connectivity. Garborgsenteret, close to the train station, got a visitor information center.

M44 one of the largest shop centers in the area. Locally produced art is available.

Jæren Hotel and Bryne Kro & Hotel both serve good food. Several small restaurants and fast food shops are available in the city center.

Drink some locally produced milk.

This legendary Bandon Dunes event is for golf sickos only

Golfers are playing 72 holes at Bandon Dunes Tuesday.

Evan Schiller

U.S. Open Qualifying is often referred to by Golf Channel as “Golf’s Longest Day,” but golf’s actual longest day is taking place Tuesday on the southeastern coast of Oregon.

Only this version is less of a grind and more a celebration of the sickest of golf sickos.

While the actual summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere and the astronomical start of summer, is Thursday, more than 100 golfers at Bandon Dunes are getting the party started early with the 14th annual Bandon Solstice.

Tomorrow is the day! 72 holes of golf during the Bandon Solstice. Rest up now, and we'll see you bright and early in the morning! pic.twitter.com/FSY5i5lL0a — Bandon Dunes (@BandonDunesGolf) June 17, 2024

With first-round tee times starting at 5:25 a.m. PDT (before Tuesday’s official sunrise at Bandon of 5:37 a.m.), each Bandon Solstice player will play 72 holes of golf Tuesday on four of the resort’s five courses.

For this year’s Bandon Solstice, groups are playing Bandon Dunes, Bandon Trails, Old MacDonald and Sheep Ranch, which are all within GOLF’s Top 100 U.S. Courses list. The foursomes each start on different courses, with two waves going off the front and back nines of the Bandon Dunes golf course and work their around the four courses.

The day starts with a breakfast buffet at 4:30 a.m. (!!!) and includes lunch after your second round. You know what they say, nothing hits like the mid-round hot dog, especially when “mid-round” is after your 36th hole of the day.

Groups typically finish all four rounds around 8 to 8:30 p.m., before Tuesday’s sunset of 9 p.m. PT. Perhaps there’s even enough time for players to have an “E9” putting contest on the resort’s Punchbowl putting course. That is if they can still stand of course.

That adds up to a pretty stout pace. For the 2017 Bandon Solstice, the resort said rounds were completed in about a 3-hour-and-15-minute pace.

the par-3 17th hole at bandon trails

All the courses at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, explained

Luckily, players typically don’t carry their own bags. One of the resort’s talented caddies will carry two bags for two rounds and then be replaced. It still ends up being a pretty lucrative day for them as the caddie rate is $100 per bag, per round, plus gratuity.

Think you have the stamina to go four rounds at Bandon in one? It doesn’t come cheap. Prices for this year’s Bandon Solstice were $2,005 per person for a double occupancy room and $2,345 per person for a single occupancy room or a shared two-bedroom loft. That’s in addition to the caddies.

That package comes with two nights of lodging for the night before the event and the night of, a welcome reception and dinner the night before, four rounds of golf for the event, breakfast the morning of the event and the morning after and dinner after the event.

You can register as a twosome or a foursome and as long as person from each foursome fills out a registration, you can enter as many foursomes as you like, you just better do it fast. Last year, registration took place in mid-November and the event was sold out within minutes.

If you do happen to sign up, just remember, this writer, who during his only visit to the resort played just one of the 18-hole golf courses, is available if you need a fourth.

Now prepping for its 13th sailing, the themed cruise that celebrates heavy metal bands from the 80s will feature Tesla, Extreme, Winger, Queensrÿche, LA Guns, Slaughter, Faster Pussycat, Krokus, Vixen and more.

Tesla lead singer Jeff Keith turned 65 this year. Coming up on “retirement” age are Winger lead singer and founder Kip Winger and Extreme lead vocalist Gary Cherone, both now 62. Slaughter lead singer Mark Slaughter is a relatively young 59.

Michael Schenker, 69, of MSG game will be there, as will Stephen Pearcy, 67, of RATT and Michael Monroe, 62, from Hanoi Rocks. Dokken fans will get 69-year-old guitarist George Lynch’s band The Lynch Mob alongside more than 35 artists set to play on the five-night cruise.

Fans of the HBO Max superhero show “Peacemaker” can hear Wig Wam perform its theme song “Do You Wanna Taste It.”

The gathering will sail aboard the Norwegian Joy from March 10-15, 2025 from PortMiami visiting Nassau and private Bahamas island Great Stirrup Cay. One of Norwegian Cruise Line’s largest ships, the 3,850-passenger ship debuted in 2017, and features among other things a go-kart track.

The voyage will be hosted by Eddie Trunk, who for years appeared on “That Metal Show” on VH1 Classic and is now on SiriusXM. The event features multiple stages and other onboard activities including Q&A’s and events titled Gong Show Karaoke, “So You Think You Can Shred,” Cooking with Rock Stars, Painting with Rock Stars, a Rockers vs Average Joe’s sporting event, comedy and more.

Other bands slated to appear include Pretty Maids, Vandenberg, Eclipse, Hardcore Superstar, Chris Holmes, Rose Tattoo, Tyketto, The Answer, Aldo Nova, Rhino Bucket, Cold Sweat, The Cruel Intentions, Hurricane, Shiraz Lane, Massive Wagons, Jared James Nichols, Wildstreet, Sisters Doll, Midnight City, Burning Witches, Liliac, The Bites, The Iron Maidens and Hoekstra & Gibbs.

Pricier than normal cruises, cabins start at $2,699.00 per person based on double occupancy and can be booked through MonstersOfRockCruise.com.

The price has not been a deterrent, though, as the Monsters of Rock Cruise has sailed with more than 30,000 heavy metal fans in the last decade.

The most elevated dining experience in New York City has arrived: It will cost you $3,000 and is 1,250 feet in the sky.

The private event space at One World Observatory is now available to book for a dinner for two, giving an opportunity for a romantic dinner with 360-degree views of NYC from the 102nd floor of the One World Trade Center.

“We want everyone to have the opportunity to experience an evening on top of the world,” Amber King, senior director of special events at One World Observatory, told Food & Wine .

travel event bryne

Aspire has historically been utilized for weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, and corporate events.

Now, for a starting price of $3,000, the 9,000-square-foot room with floor-to-ceiling windows can be reserved for just you and a plus one.

“We offer a private escort to your experience, a curated playlist, a private culinary team and waitstaff, along with a bottle of Dom Pérignon and a pre-selected four-course meal of your choice with wine service,” King shared.

“The venue will be adorned with red rose petals and an array of pillar candles to set the tone for a memorable evening.”

If patrons want to raise the bar even more, Aspire offers add-on services for an additional fee.

The private event space at One World Observatory is now available to book for a dinner for two

“Up-lighting, extensive florals, a string quartet, personal photographer, upgraded bar service, a live singer/band, additional guests, a private tour guide, the list goes on,” King said. “All these elements are available for an upgraded rate, but can be completely managed and arranged by the events team.”

According to Food & Wine, the private dining experience has just one table in the center of the large event space, and the meal is “personally designed and prepared” by Chef Reuel Vincent, who leads the kitchen at One Dine.

“My focus on New American cuisine takes inspiration from my Caribbean background as well as the influence of NYC being a melting pot of all cultures,” Chef Vincent told the outlet.

“The emphasis on the varying flavors of NYC’s culinary scene is meant to complement the overall experience. Not only will guests experience the sights of the city from the highest point, but they’ll be able to taste and discover the flavors that make New York a true culinary wonder.”

Aspire isn’t meant for a spontaneous date night, but more so for something special and meaningful, such as proposals , anniversaries, and engagements. You can plan for a romantic occasion with views of Midtown, Downtown Manhattan, The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Liberty Island, Governor’s Island, New Jersey, Staten Island and Brooklyn.

The private dining experience at Aspire launched this week and is now booking through Labor Day. After Labor Day, the event space will be booked one month out.

These Apple iOS 18 Updates Aim To Streamline Travel And Attending Events

Apple's iOS 18 will feature hiking trails on the Maps app, a way to organize photos by trips taken, and redesigned event tickets.

Some of Apple’s upcoming updates are perfect for travelers, hikers, and concert lovers. At this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the tech titan  shared  that iOS 18 will feature hiking trails on the Maps app, a way to organize photos by trips taken, and redesigned event tickets.

The new photo feature is part of what the brand  calls  “the biggest redesign of the Photos app.” Following iOS 18’s rollout, Apple users will be able to see all the photos taken during an individual trip and pin them as collections. The update could possibly be a game changer for influencers or those wanting to  share content  and memories from their travels quickly. The iOS update will also include a “new Carousel” showing off “your best content.”

Later this year, iOS 18 will also bring topographic maps and outlines of trail networks to the Maps app. Moreover, walking enthusiasts will be able to create and save their routes. The brand claims U.S. users will be able to save “thousands of hikes” to their phones, which could be helpful if offline on a remote trail.

Apple noted that “participating ticket issuers” will implement the brand’s event ticket redesign. With the new look and functionality, users can combine “helpful information about [an event’s] venue with recommendations from Apple apps.” This means that regardless of whether you’re in your city or another, more information could make attending your event easier and  more enjoyable .

What Else Should Travelers Know About Apple’s Latest?

A big announcement at the WWDC was that iOS 18 will include Apple Intelligence — the brand’s artificial intelligence tool drawing on a user’s “personal context.” The tech titan claims its AI will give users “helpful and relevant” information.

Apple Intelligence can “summarize longer text,” such as during a search, so it could be helpful to travelers when researching destinations.

“iOS 18 is a big release that delivers more ways to  customize your iPhone , stay connected, and relive special moments,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering.

Our Chicago: Celebrating Juneteenth across the city

WLS logo

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Wednesday is Juneteenth.

It marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people of African descent in Galveston, Texas learned that they were free. That was more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

Perri Irmer is the president and CEO of the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center. She says for many years, Juneteenth was not celebrated in more northern states.

"This is, I think, also an example of pieces of history that are kept hidden, that aren't widely known. And why it's so important for institutions like Black museums and history curriculum across the board to really recognize these important dates and these important facts in American history. And let's not forget that African-American history is American history," Irmer said.

In June 2021, Juneteenth became a national holiday. This year, the DuSable Black History Museum has a day of events planned to celebrate. Irmer is hoping "everyone" attends.

"We are the nation's oldest, independent Black history museum," Irmer said.

The DuSable was founded in 1961.

"We are really kind of the centerpiece of Chicago's Juneteenth celebration. This year, we expect probably upwards of 6,000 people during the day, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. We're offering entertainment, we're offering music and dance. And we have so many activations and a vendor marketplace that mimics an African marketplace," Irmer said.

At Chicago's Music Box Theater, "Life Within The Lens: Juneteenth Edition" will feature five short films. All of them, the works of Black filmmakers here in Chicago.

Among them is Marquis Simmons. His film is called "Broke Down Drone."

"It's about two cousins who are just going through the everyday struggle trying to make their dreams happen," Simmons said.

He says it takes you on a journey through Chicago.

"This film was a love letter to North Lawndale and pretty much, predominately, the West Side of Chicago. So I want people walking away feeling uplifted and just feeling hopeful. No matter how hard your circumstances are that the dream is still very possible," Simmons said.

Tyler Michael Balentine is the programmer at the Music Box Theatre.

"Film is perspective. And when you get a perspective into all of our stories and how nuanced they are, from sadness to joy. Subjects of life and death, faith, community, liberation, especially with it being Juneteenth, you definitely get to have more insight and you just have more of a view of what it means to be Black in America," Balentine said.
