Dota 2: DPC China Tour 3 Division I and II Overview – Week 2

We break down all the hottest Dota 2 action from Week 2 of China's DPC Tour 3.

The Chinese region in Dota 2 was one of the most interesting ones to follow. As you remember, this was the only place that did not send its representatives to Stockholm for the Major. Therefore, people from other regions were eager to see which team stood out.

Week one had a lot more action to watch thanks to PSG.LGD losing their first match against EHOME. Some of you may think this isn't that important, but Wang “Ame” Chunyu and the rest usually never lose, so it was a big deal.

With that being said, the second week of Tour 3 was not easy for some teams, so let’s learn more about the most exciting results.

• 3.1 Game 1 

Vici Gaming vs Team Aster

The second series of this week put together two of the best teams in China. Aster and Vici Gaming have a long history of their rivalry because they have always been among the best teams in the region. Everyone was eager to watch this match and luckily, it was a three-game thriller.

Team Aster tried to be innovative in the first match of the series and picked Slark and Warlock. The two heroes became more popular after the new patch, so it wasn’t surprising Aster had an excellent start.

The team won the laning stage and allowed their Puck and Slark to snowball. Even though TA and DK slowly bounced back, their timings were late because Aster’s cores ripped through them. 

After 40+ minutes of high-level plays, Aster took the lead.

After losing game one, Vici Decided to pick a very annoying draft that consisted of Razor, Viper, and Marci. Unsurprisingly, the team dominated the laning stage and the mid-game. While it is true Aster’s Juggernaut tried to keep up with Vici’s cores, he was ot powerful enough to stop them.

Following a couple of big team fights, Vici’s lead became too strong even for Aster’s fast-farming cores. This allowed them to equalize the series and focus on the third game of the match.

Everyone thought the third game of the series would be at least as enjoyable as the previous two. However, this was not the case because VG gave their opponents no chance of winning.

Everything went wrong for Aster because the team was crushed during the laning stage. Their Lina had a good game, but this was the only hero that did something. Tons of mistakes from Du “Monet” Peng and the rest prevented Aster from winning and gave Vici their first victory.

EHOME vs RNGU

The second match of the week that people wanted to watch was the fight between EHOME and Royal Never Give Up. These two teams are in a similar state regarding their overall performance. Both have the chance to qualify for the Major, so this match was very important for them.

Interestingly, the two teams used one hero in each game. EHOME relied on the good-old Tiny, whereas RNGU used Marci. Even though most fans expected a back-and-forth match, the reality was different.

Despite the very slow start, Royal Never Give Up took advantage of a few crucial mistakes from EHOME and ripped through them in no time. After securing a couple of team wipes, Lu “Somnus丶M” Yao and his teammates got more than 14k net worth just 22 minutes after the start. Despite having Troll and Puck, EHOME had no way of bouncing back, so they lost the game.

After the beatdown in Game one Lin “planet” Hao and the rest wanted to show their fans they have what it takes to win. Consequently, the team stepped up its game and did not allow RNGU to use their draft.

EHOME had the lead from the beginning, but it didn’t start to increase until the 17th-minute mark. After a good team fight, the Chinese squad got a definite advantage that was too much for RNGU to handle. Despite their efforts, Maybe the rest lost after 29 minutes.

PSG.LGD vs Vici Gaming

The last series we were highly interested in was between the two Chinese powerhouses. This used to be the El Classic of the Chinese Dota 2 scene, but due to Vici’s recent results, PSG.LGD was the heavy favorite. However, it seems like the team has some problems because it failed to win this match.

Both teams used some of the top heroes in the current meta in the match's first game. PSG.LGD tried to take advantage of Nature’s Prophet and his split-pushing capabilities, whereas Vici used Juggernaut.

The game was even for the first 30 minutes, even though Vici was definitely more aggressive. Just when Wang “Ame” Chunyu and the rest started to bounce back, Vici Gaming took down Roshan and got the Aegis. A few seconds after that, Vici’s cores teleported to the bot lane and got five kills in total. We thought that PSG.LGD would try to delay the game as much as possible and bounce back, but the Chinese used the GG call immediately after dying.

After winning the first map, Vici Gaming looked a lot more motivated for the second match. Speaking of the devil, PSG decided to stick to the meta and picked Pudge for their safe lane.

Even though neither team had a definite advantage, Vici was in the driving seat because their cores allowed them to be more offensive. This was great for the Guo “Xm” Hongcheng and the rest because they had the better draft for the late game.

We saw a long team fight near the 28th minute where LGD killed four of Vici’s heroes. Despite gaining an advantage, the team made a crucial mistake a couple of minutes later. Vici Gaming was able to kill four of LGD’s heroes, which allowed the team to destroy the first set of rax.

After getting the mid rax, Vici moved to the top lane, where they killed LGD’s team for the second time. This forced Ame and the rest to use the GG call, which meant this was the team’s second loss in the DPC. 

This loss was unexpected because LGD didn't even lose two games total during Tour 1 and Tour 2.

The 2022 Perfect World Tour 3 Division 2 is also a part of the (Dota Pro Circuit) tournament organized by PW; This tournament will also serve as a qualifying tournament in preparation for the biggest DOTA2 event, The International.

The tournament will feature both notable and the best teams from Europe, China, Southeast Asia, North America, and South America, with a prize pool for each region amounting to $205,000 for Upper Division and $75,000 for the Lower Division.

The points acquired from this tournament will determine their qualification for the Major Event and eventually The International 2022.

Division 2 Format: All matches are played in a Single-Elimination format and all matches are best-of-three series.

No LGD at TI 2024: An end to a glorious 11-year streak

End of an era.

The brutal The International (TI) 2024 China Qualifier witnessed a heart-breaking upset as LGD Gaming fails to qualify for the annual event. This marks the first time that LGD Gaming will be absent from The International stage, breaking the organization's long-running 11-year attendance record.

LGD Gaming's Dota 2 roster is as follows:

LGD Gaming eliminated from TI 2024 China Qualifier

The Dota 2 scene witnessed a historical defeat in the 2024 TI China Qualifier. LGD Gaming, for the first time in 11 years, failed to make it into the significant International. They were first knocked down to the Lower Bracket by Azure Ray who were technically the favored favorites in this matchup.

But ultimately, LGD Gaming bombed out of the TI qualifier after an ironic loss to Team Turtle. The new stack is made up of popular Chinese veterans led by Somnus and Chalice. Interestingly enough, both teams that LGD Gaming lost to comprised of the organization's former players.

This defeat came after LGD Gaming took a period of inactivity for roster adjustment. Despite their temporary hiatus, the team only changed their midlaner and continued to deliver rocky performances. LGD Gaming will sit on the bench for this Coppenhagen TI, a first in history since a decade of presence.

LGD Gaming is without a doubt the most consistent Dota 2 organization of all time. The team first made their TI debut in 2012 with a promising 3rd place achievement. Since then, LGD would consistently make it to the grand event - whether via direct invites, DPC points, or qualifiers.

LGD even showed a pattern of resilience. Even during a dim period with little achievements, the Chinese org will bounce back during higher-stake events and finish greatly at Internationals. Just last year, LGD had a less-than-standard overall performance with top 12 to top 6 results in global competitions. But at The International 2023, LGD Gaming ended with an impressive 3rd place podium finish. For more than a decade, the team never failed to show up. But TI 2024 sees a different story.

More TI pioneers will not compete in TI 2024

Dota 2 statsman, Ben "Noxville" Steenhuisen highlighted other significant absences from The International.

He showed a list of teams with the highest TI attendance. The top three teams, LGD Gaming, Evil Geniuses, and Fnatic all won't be competing in this year's iteration. While LGD didn't make it in the qualifiers, both EG and Fnatic have pulled out from Dota 2 esports a while ago. Among the list, only Team Liquid has qualified so far. Team Secret, on the other hand, will be facing an intense Western Europe Qualifier journey.
