14:22, no errors. Cute. (And a bit silly, perhaps … 🙂.)

Thank you Bill, for your reliably informative ‘backstory blog’. One question re 33A: Has anyone ever met a dog named Fido? I certainly haven’t and I’ve been around since 1947!

Mike, that is a very good point. No one names, their dog Fido.

My next-door neighbors growing up in Iowa where Mr. and Mrs. Doe (The only Does I’ve ever met) I forget their kids names, but they were not John or Jane. Hmmm

16:32, no errors. A little cutesy.

19:24, no errors. Didn’t understand the gimmick until I got down to TILTED AT WINDMILLS. The tilted boxes were much more obvious than the ‘CURLED’ edges (which looked more like a movie film strip perforations), or the ‘LINED’ boxes (which looked like parallel seams of stitching).

Thank you so much for nyxcrossword – love reading the history behind the entries, Bill!

Curious, what does “no errors” mean? Does that mean there was no auto-check or checking any answers, or a completely clean grid on first try? I finished the grid in about 8m, one of my fastest times yet… but to my dismay, didn’t get the cheery finishing music. Ah well. Took 5 minutes for me to flyspeck and find where my answers were wrong. (I’d put “IAMTOO” in for 11D, which led to a few nonsensical entries in the crosses.) Does this count as “no errors,” or “3 errors” for my incorrect initial entries?

Time: 13:41, ??? errors

Welcome to the comment community. I think you will find several opinions on what constitutes ‘No errors’, and people here are honest and transparent about their criteria. My position is as follows: When using the NYT App, there are 2 conditions under which the puzzle is considered ‘completed’: Condition 1: all boxes are filled correctly (i.e. No errors). The app automatically stops the timer, locks the grid and archives the results. I report the time with no errors. Condition 2: the solver can give up and hit one of the reveal options. The app stops the timer, locks the grid and archives the results with the errors marked in red. I report the time with X errors. I count each incorrect box as 2 errors, since I had two chances (vertical & horizontal) to determine the correct entry. It appears that Bill counts errors this way, also.

36:39, agree with BruceB regarding “curled up with a book” looking more like a strip of film, which threw me off for a bit.

Good question from “LA”… what does a “no errors” response constitute. I assume a “fat finger” mistaken entry doesn’t count as an error if I catch it before the last square is filled, but upon completion of the puzzle, not getting the music of success implies an error or errors.

Thanks BruceB and Duncan for the answers and warm welcome! Seems like there’s a number of conditions that “No errors” could mean. I didn’t know the “reveal” options would give you the incorrect answers in red… that’s fascinating.

Hope y’all have a great weekend up ahead! Can’t wait to see Bill’s commentary behind Friday’s grid.
